Abstract
Samples of the carbonaceous asteroid Ryugu were brought to Earth by the Hayabusa2 spacecraft. We analyzed 17 Ryugu samples measuring 1 to 8 millimeters. Carbon dioxide-bearing water inclusions are present within a pyrrhotite crystal, indicating that Ryugu's parent asteroid formed in the outer Solar System. The samples contain low abundances of materials that formed at high temperatures, such as chondrules and calcium- and aluminum-rich inclusions. The samples are rich in phyllosilicates and carbonates, which formed through aqueous alteration reactions at low temperature, high pH, and water/rock ratios of <1 (by mass). Less altered fragments contain olivine, pyroxene, amorphous silicates, calcite, and phosphide. Numerical simulations, based on the mineralogical and physical properties of the samples, indicate that Ryugu's parent body formed ~2 million years after the beginning of Solar System formation.

Abstract
Coronary periarteritis with aneurysms has been reported as a cardiovascular manifestation of immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4) -related disease. We report a 10-year clinical observation of a patient with IgG4-related coronary periarteritis (IgG4-rCP) characterized by multiple thickening of periarterial tissue and coronary artery aneurysms (CAAs).A 60-year-old man with a history of IgG4-related autoimmune pancreatitis had an incidental detection of a total of 5 tumor-like lesions surrounding the right and left coronary arteries on coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) in 2012. Among them, 3 lesions were located at the middle to the distal portions of the right coronary artery (RCA) and the most proximal lesion was accompanied by a CAA. Although corticosteroid therapy was continued, 4-year follow-up of CCTA in 2016 showed the most proximal lesion gradually increased from 33 to 45 mm and the CAA enlarged from 9 to 22 mm. In order to avoid aneurysmal rupture, the patient underwent resection of the most proximal lesion with an enlarged aneurysm concomitant with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Histopathological findings were coincident with IgG4-rCP. CCTA in 2018, however, showed the remaining distal tumor-like lesion of RCA had slightly enlarged and a new CAA developed despite the corticosteroid therapy. Follow-up CCTA in 2022 revealed the CAA increased to 13 mm, which showed rapid enlargement by 4 mm/year. A second operation through a re-median sternotomy was planned. The residual lesions with the CAA were resected followed by CABG. The other lesions at the left coronary artery remained stable without aneurysmal change, but careful follow-up has been continued.

Abstract
P-wave terminal force in lead V1 (PTFV1) is a marker of increased left atrial (LA) overload. Whether PTFV1 is associated with left ventricular (LV) diastolic function remains undetermined. We tested the hypothesis that PTFV1 is associated with LV diastolic parameters derived from gated myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in patients with no significant perfusion abnormalities.The study population included 158 patients with preserved ejection fraction and no significant perfusion abnormalities. The amplitude and duration of the P-wave negative phase in lead V1 were measured using an electrocardiogram, and PTFV1 was calculated. The peak filling rate (PFR) and one-third mean filling rate (1/3 MFR) were obtained as LV diastolic parameters using gated SPECT.PTFV1 showed a weak correlation with the LA volume index (r = 0.31; P < 0.001). Significant associations were observed between PTFV1 and PFR (r = -0.27; P < 0.001) and 1/3 MFR (r = -0.26; P = 0.001). A multivariate linear regression analysis showed that age (β = -0.26; P < 0.001), LV end-diastolic volume index (β = -0.27; P = 0.001), and PTFV1 (β = -0.15; P = 0.036) were significant factors associated with PFR. Moreover, male gender (β = -0.16; P = 0.041), LV mass index (β = -0.17; P = 0.046), and PTFV1 (β = -0.17; P = 0.022) were significant factors associated with the 1/3 MFR.PTFV1 is associated with LV diastolic function, as derived from gated SPECT in patients with no significant perfusion abnormalities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous studies have shown that 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) scintigraphy, an index of cardiac sympathetic nervous (CSN) activity, is useful for predicting prognosis in patients with heart failure. However, the factors influencing the CSN activity of patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) remain unclear. METHODS We enrolled 91 patients with severe AS who underwent 123I-MIBG scintigraphy, coronary computed tomography (CCT), and transthoracic echocardiography. When CCT angiography (CCTA) showed an obstructive epicardial artery, invasive coronary angiography was performed within 1 week of CCTA. RESULTS There were 21 male and 70 female patients with a mean age of 84±5 years. Eighty-five (85) patients (93%) had hypertension and 13 patients (14%) had diabetes. Two (2) patients (2%) had previous myocardial infarction and eight (9%) had a previous coronary intervention. All patients had severe AS: aortic valve area was 0.63±0.18 cm2 and the mean pressure gradient was 56±19 mmHg. Regarding 123I-MIBG parameters, early heart-to-mediastinum (H/M) ratio was 3.1±0.5, delayed H/M ratio was 2.8±0.6, and the washout rate (WR) was 35%±13%. Multivariable linear regression analysis showed that coronary artery disease (β=-0.30, p=0.002) was an independent predictor of delayed H/M ratio, and that aortic valve area (β=-0.20, p=0.048) was an independent predictor of WR. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that coronary artery disease is an independent predictor of delayed H/M ratio, and aortic valve area is an independent predictor of WR in patients with severe AS.

Abstract
The monocyte to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio has been considered to be a prognostic marker. Whether this ratio is associated with left ventricular (LV) diastolic function remains undetermined. We tested the hypothesis that the monocyte to HDL-C ratio is associated with LV diastolic parameters derived from gated myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in patients with no significant perfusion abnormality.The study population included 196 patients with no significant perfusion abnormalities and preserved ejection fraction. The peak filling rate (PFR) and one-third mean filling rate (1/3 MFR) were obtained as LV diastolic parameters using gated SPECT. Monocyte counts and plasma HDL-C levels were also examined.Significant associations were observed between the monocyte to HDL-C ratio and PFR (r = -0.20; P = 0.005) and 1/3 MFR (r = -0.19; P = 0.009). Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to determine factors associated with LV diastolic parameters. Age (β = -0.27; P < 0.001), LV end-diastolic volume (β = -0.19; P = 0.034), and monocyte to HDL-C ratio (β = -0.15; P = 0.027) were determined to be significantly associated with PFR. Moreover, age (β = -0.13; P = 0.007), LV mass index (β = -0.18; P = 0.037), and the monocyte to HDL-C ratio (β = -0.13; P = 0.045) were significantly associated with 1/3 MFR.These results demonstrated that the monocyte to HDL-C ratio is associated with LV diastolic function, as derived from gated SPECT in patients with no significant perfusion abnormality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several studies have shown that aortic valve calcium (AVC) is associated with cardiovascular events. Furthermore, the extent of AVC is associated with adverse prognosis even in patients without significant aortic stenosis. We investigated the relationship between AVC and left ventricular (LV) diastolic parameters determined by gated single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in patients with no evidence of ischaemic heart disease. METHODS This study included 157 patients with no evidence of ischaemic heart disease who underwent both coronary computed tomography and gated SPECT. The AVC scores were calculated by the Agatston method, and peak filling rate (PFR) and one-third mean filling rate (1/3 MFR) were determined as LV diastolic parameters. RESULTS There were 93 (59%) and 64 (41%) patients with and without AVC, respectively, and the AVC scores ranged from 0 to 1251. There was no significant difference in LV end-diastolic volume (EDV) (60 ± 18 vs 62 ± 25 mL, p = 0.52) or LV ejection fraction (67% ± 10% vs 66% ± 8%, p = 0.60) between the two groups. Patients with AVC had lower PFR (2.2 ± 0.5 vs 2.4 ± 0.5 EDV/s, p = 0.002) and 1/3 MFR (1.3 ± 0.3 vs 1.5 ± 0.4 EDV/s, p = 0.003) than those without AVC. Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that ln(AVC score + 1) was significantly associated with PFR and 1/3 MFR. CONCLUSION In patients without evidence of ischaemic heart disease, the extent of AVC was inversely correlated with gated SPECT-derived parameters of LV diastolic function.

Abstract
Objective The QRS-T angle has been established as a repolarization marker. In the present study, we determined whether or not newly developed bundle branch block (BBB) affected the QRS-T angle in patients with a narrow QRS. Methods Twenty-four patients with newly developed BBB and no adverse cardiac events were retrospectively included. The frontal QRS-T angle was defined as the absolute value of the difference between the frontal plane QRS axis and the T-wave axis. These electrocardiogram parameters were serially measured in the settings of narrow QRS and BBB. Results Twelve patients had newly developed right BBB (RBBB), and 12 had newly developed left BBB (LBBB). The development of RBBB did not affect the QRS axis, T-wave axis of QRS-T angle (41° ±42° to 53° ±65°, p = 0.63). In contrast, the development of LBBB shifted the QRS axis to the left (25° ±29° to -18° ±31°, p = 0.003), resulting in an increased QRS-T angle (72° ±50° to 123° ±39°, p = 0.001). Regarding RBBB, an excellent correlation and agreement were found between the QRS-T angles in the setting of narrow QRS and RBBB (r = 0.88; p <0.001; bias, 2.9° ±20.9°). However, there was a significant bias between the QRS-T angles in the setting of narrow QRS and LBBB (51.9° ±40.4°; p = 0.001). Conclusion Our data suggested that the QRS-T angle in the setting of RBBB reflected the original QRS-T angle in the setting of narrow QRS well, whereas the QRS-T angle in the setting of LBBB did not.

Abstract
The impact of prosthesis-patient mismatch (PPM) after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) on changes in cardiac sympathetic nervous (CSN) function remains unclear. Using 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) myocardial scintigraphy, we investigated the impact of PPM after TAVR on CSN activity.We enrolled 44 of 117 patients with severe aortic stenosis who underwent TAVR for analysis in the present study. We conducted 123I-MIBG scintigraphy at baseline and at about 9 months after TAVR. Differences between baseline and post-TAVR 123I-MIBG parameters were compared between cases with and without PPM.There were 17 and 27 patients with and without PPM, respectively. Those without PPM exhibited significantly decreased left ventricular mass index (122 ± 36 g/m2 versus 108 ± 30 g/m2, P < 0.001) following TAVR, whereas those with PPM did not (117 ± 21 g/m2 versus 110 ± 17 g/m2, P = 0.09). Significant improvements in delayed heart-to-mediastinum (H/M) ratio (2.8 ± 0.4 versus 3.0 ± 0.4, P = 0.004) and washout rate (WR) (33% ± 10% versus 24% ± 12%, P < 0.001) were observed after TAVR in patients without PPM but not in those with PPM. Multivariable linear regression analysis revealed PPM to be a negative predictor of improvements in delayed H/M ratio and WR.Delayed H/M ratio and WR improve significantly after TAVR in the absence of PPM, whereas these improvements are not observed in patients with PPM. Hence, the presence of PPM is a negative predictor of improvements in delayed H/M ratio and WR in patients undergoing TAVR.

Background
Coronary flow reserve (CFR) reflects the functional capacity of microcirculation to adapt to blood demand during increased cardiac work.
Purpose
We tested the hypothesis that aging had impacts on coronary flow velocities and CFR in patients with no evidence of myocardial perfusion abnormality on single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT).
Methods and results
Seventy-six patients with no evidence of myocardial perfusion abnormality on SPECT undergoing transthoracic Doppler echocardiography were enrolled in this study. Patients were divided into three age groups: 17 patients aged <70 years (Group I), 38 patients aged 70–79 years (Group II), and 21 patients aged ≥80 years (Group III). Compared with Group I, CFR was significantly lower in Group II (P<0.01) and Group III (P<0.01). Multivariate analysis showed that female (P=0.03), cigarette smoking (P=0.004), hemoglobin level (P=0.001) and LV mass index (P=0.03) were determinants for resting coronary flow velocity. On the other hand, age (P=0.008), hemoglobin level (P<0.001) and LV mass index (P=0.04) were determinants for hyperemic coronary flow velocity. Age was only independent determinant for CFR (β=−0.48 P<0.001).
Conclusions
Our data suggested that aging impaired CFR in patients with no evidence of myocardial perfusion abnormality primarily due to the decrease in hyperemic coronary flow velocity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous studies have shown the association between chronic kidney disease (CKD) and adverse cardiac events. We investigated whether or not the upright T-wave in lead aVR (TaVR) could predict left ventricular (LV) volume and function derived from ECG-gated SPECT in patients with advanced CKD. METHODS Two hundred and sixty-one patients with advanced CKD [estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 45 ml/min/1.73 m2] were enrolled. Upright TaVR was defined as a wave with a positive deflection of > 0 mV. Enlarged LV end-diastolic volume (LVEDV) was defined as LVEDV index of > 76 ml/m2 in men and > 57 ml/m2 in women. Reduced LV ejection fraction (LVEF) was defined as LVEF of < 40%. RESULTS Forty-six patients (18%) had upright TaVR, and 215 patients (82%) had negative TaVR. Summed redistribution score (SRS) [ 6 (1-12) vs. 2 (0-5), p < 0.001] and summed difference score (SDS) [4 (1-6) vs. 2 (0-4), p = 0.004] were significantly larger in patients with upright TaVR than those with negative TaVR. Patients with upright TaVR had larger LVEDV index (75 ± 33 ml/m2 vs. 50 ± 18 ml/m2, p < 0.001) and lower LVEF (43 ± 14% vs. 58 ± 11%, p < 0.001) compared to those with negative TaVR. After adjusted for other variables including SRS and SDS, upright TaVR remained a significant predictor of enlarged LVEDV (odds ratio 5.45; 95% CI 2.16-14.22; p < 0.001) and reduced LVEF (odds ratio 4.54; 95% CI 1.70-12.23; p = 0.003). CONCLUSIONS Our data suggested that upright TaVR could predict LV volume and function derived from ECG-gated SPECT in patients with advanced CKD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Central venous pressure (CVP) is measured to assess intravascular fluid status. Although the clinical gold standard for evaluating CVP is invasive measurement using catheterization, the use of catheterization is limited in a clinical setting because of its invasiveness. We developed novel non-invasive technique, enclosed-zone (ezCVPTM) measurement for estimating CVP. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of ezCVP and the relationship between ezCVP and CVP measured by a catheter.Methods and Results:We conducted 291 measurements in 97 patients. Linear regression analysis revealed that ezCVP was significantly correlated with CVP (r=0.65, P<0.0001). The Bland-Altman analysis showed that ezCVP had an underestimation bias of -2.5 mmHg with 95% limits of agreement of -14.1 mmHg and 9.6 mmHg for CVP (P<0.0001). The areas under the curves of receiver operating curve with ezCVP to detect the CVP ≥12 cmH2O (8.8 mmHg) and CVP >10 mmHg were 0.81 or 0.88, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity and positive likelihood ratio of ezCVP for the CVP ≥8.8 mmHg and CVP >10 mmHg were 0.59, 0.96 and 14.8 with a cut-off value of 11.9 and 0.79, 0.97 and 26.3 with a cut-off value of 12.7. CONCLUSIONS These findings suggest that ezCVP measurement is feasible and useful for assessing CVP.

Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that female (β = - 0.26, p = 0.03), cigarette smoking (β = - 0.32, p = 0.004), hemoglobin level (β = - 0.40, p = 0.001) and LV mass index (β = 0.24, p = 0.03) were determinants for resting coronary flow velocity. On the other hand, age (β = -0.30, p = 0.008), hemoglobin level (β = -0.47, p < 0.001) and LV mass index (β = 0.24, p = 0.04) were determinants for hyperemic coronary flow velocity. Age was only determinant for CFR (β = -0.48, p < 0.001). Our data suggested that that aging had a decreased effect on hyperemic coronary flow velocity rather than resting coronary flow velocity, and was further associated with impaired CFR in patients with no evidence of myocardial perfusion abnormality.

Abstract
The frontal QRS-T angle, defined as the angle between QRS and T-wave axes, has recently become an area of research interest. We tested the hypothesis that the frontal QRS-T angle is associated with left ventricular (LV) diastolic function in the absence of significant perfusion abnormality using ECG-gated SPECT. One hundred twenty eight patients with no significant perfusion abnormality and preserved LV ejection fraction were enrolled. The peak filling rate (PFR) and the one-third mean filling rate (1/3 MFR) were obtained as LV diastolic parameters on ECG-gated SPECT. There were 115 male and 13 female patients with a mean age of 70 ± 9 years. The PFR and 1/3 MFR were 2.1 ± 0.4/s and 1.2 ± 0.3/s, respectively. The frontal QRS-T angle was 33° ± 31°, ranging from 0° to 151°. There were significant associations of frontal QRS-T angle with PFR (r = - 0.29, p = 0.001) and 1/3 MFR (r = - 0.30, p < 0.001). Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that age (β = - 0.25, p = 0.003), heart rate (β = 0.26, p = 0.002), LV ejection fraction (β = 0.43, p < 0.001) and frontal QRS-T angle (β = - 0.16, p = 0.03) were significant factors associated with PFR. Also, heart rate (β = - 0.32, p < 0.001), LV mass index (β = - 0.19, p = 0.03), LV ejection fraction (β = 0.30, p < 0.001) and frontal QRS-T angle (β = - 0.26, p = 0.002) were significant factors associated with 1/3 MFR. Our data suggested that the frontal QRS-T angle was associated with LV diastolic function in the absence of significant perfusion abnormality.

Abstract
Background: Left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction represents an earlier step of the ischaemic cascade. We tested the hypothesis that the index of LV diastolic function from electrocardiogram (ECG)-gated single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is useful in detecting myocardial ischaemia in patients with non-obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD).Methods: One-hundred-ten patients with non-obstructive CAD and summed redistribution score of zero were enrolled. Summed difference score (SDS) of ≥2 was considered as the presence of myocardial ischaemia. Peak filling rate (PFR) defined as the maximum dV/dt divided by LV end-diastolic volume was obtained as the index of LV diastolic function.Results: Of 110 patients with non-obstructive CAD, 51 patients had myocardial ischaemia. SDSs in patients with myocardial ischaemia and those without were 3.5 ± 1.8 and 0.4 ± 0.5, respectively (p < 0.001). PFRs after stress (r = -0.22, p = 0.02) and at redistribution (r = -0.24, p = 0.01) were inversely correlated with SDS. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that PFR at redistribution was an independent predictor of the presence of myocardial ischaemia in patients with non-obstructive CAD (odds ratio: 0.15, 95% confidence interval: 0.04-0.51, p = 0.002).Conclusion: Our data suggest that PFR, the index of LV diastolic function from ECG-gated SPECT, helps to find myocardial ischaemia in patients with non-obstructive CAD.

Abstract
Objective The frontal QRS-T angle on a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) has recently become accepted as a variable of ventricular repolarization. We compared the effects of myocardial perfusion defect (MPD) on the frontal QRS-T angle between anterior and inferior myocardial infarction (MI) using single-photon emission computed tomography. Methods The frontal QRS-T angle was defined as the absolute value of the difference between the frontal plane QRS axis and T-wave axis. A QRS-T angle more than 90° was considered abnormal. Patients Forty-two patients with anterior MI and 42 age- and sex-matched patients with inferior MI were enrolled. For controls, 42 age- and sex-matched patients with no MPD were selected. Results The mean frontal QRS-T angles in anterior MI, inferior MI and control subjects were 94.7±46.2°, 26.7±22.1° and 27.0±23.2°, respectively. Compared with controls, the frontal QRS-T angle was larger in anterior MI subjects (p<0.001), and similar in value to that in inferior MI subjects (p=0.69). An abnormal QRS-T angle was frequent in the anterior MI subjects than the inferior MI subjects (55% vs. 2%, p<0.001). In anterior MI subjects, MPD was significantly associated with the T-wave axis (ρ=0.46, p=0.002) and QRS-T angle (ρ=0.47, p=0.002), but was not with the QRS axis (ρ=0.07, p=0.66). In inferior MI subjects, there were no associations between MPD and the ECG variables. Conclusion Our data suggest that the frontal QRS-T angle in inferior MI subjects is not increased as evidently as that in anterior MI subjects.

Abstract
Left ventricular (LV) remodeling often results from conditions with an elevated LV hemodynamic load or after myocardial infarction. The present study was undertaken to investigate the associations of LV shape with LV volumes and functions in patients without significant perfusion abnormality. One hundred and sixty-seven patients without significant perfusion abnormality on ECG-gated SPECT were enrolled. LV ejection fraction (LVEF) was obtained for assessing LV systolic function. Peak filling rate (PFR) and one-third mean filling rate (1/3 MFR) were obtained for assessing LV diastolic function. LV shape index (LVSI) was defined as the ratio of the maximum three-dimensional short- and long-axis LV dimension, and varies from 0 (line) to 1 (sphere). There were 125 male and 42 female patients with a mean age of 70 ± 8 years. End-systolic LVSI was 0.49 ± 0.07 (0.34-0.65). End-systolic LVSI was associated with LV end-diastolic volume (r = 0.51, p < 0.001) and LV end-systolic volume (LVESV) (r = 0.64, p < 0.001), and was inversely associated with LVEF (r = - 0.69, p < 0.001), PFR (r = - 0.45, p < 0.001) and 1/3 MFR (r = - 0.26, p = 0.008). End-systolic LVSI was increased with increased LVESV, and was not any more with LVESV of > 40 ml. Multivariate liner regression analysis showed that age (β = 0.16, p = 0.01), LVESV (β = 0.20, p = 0.03) and LVEF (β = - 0.53, p < 0.001) were significantly associated with end-systolic LVSI. Our data suggest that end-systolic LVSI, a measurement of LV shape, has close correlations with LV volumes and functions in patients without significant perfusion abnormality.

Abstract
It has been shown in several studies that coronary artery calcium (CAC) burden or CAC progression is associated with heart failure. We tested the hypothesis that the extent of CAC is associated with left ventricular (LV) diastolic parameters derived from gated myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in patients with no evidence of myocardial ischemia.157 patients undergoing coronary computed tomography (CT), gated SPECT, and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) were enrolled in this study. The CAC score was calculated according to the Agatston method. The peak filling rate (PFR) and the one-third mean filling rate (1/3MFR) were obtained as LV diastolic parameters.There were 139 patients with CAC and 18 patients without. The CAC score ranged from 0 to 4,976. There were no significant differences in the LV end-diastolic volume (LVEDV) (61 ± 21 mL versus 62 ± 22 mL, P = 0.79) and LV ejection fraction (LVEF) (66 ± 9% versus 68 ± 9%, P = 0.43). Patients with CAC had lower PFR than those without (2.2 ± 0.5 EDV/s versus 2.6 ± 0.7 EDV/s, P = 0.03). Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that ln (CAC score + 1) was significantly associated with PFR (β = -0.20, P = 0.01) and 1/3MFR (β = -0.18, P = 0.049).Our data suggest that the extent of CAC is inversely associated with LV diastolic parameters derived from gated SPECT independent of myocardial ischemia.

Abstract
The frontal QRS-T angle on the electrocardiogram has been described as a variable of ventricular repolarization. We evaluated how deep inspiration affected QRS axis, T-wave axis and frontal QRS-T angle. We also assessed the effects on left ventricular volume on the association using myocardial perfusion SPECT. Fifty patients undergoing ECGs both in resting state and in deep inspiration and subsequent SPECT were enrolled. Frontal QRS-T angle was defined as the absolute value of the difference between the frontal QRS axis and T-wave axis. Change in frontal QRS-T angle was calculated using (QRS-T angle in deep inspiration-QRS-T angle in resting state). In resting state, QRS axis and T-wave axis were 20.9° ± 30.0° and 40.9° ± 36.1°, respectively. Frontal QRS-T angle was 35.9° ± 36.1°. Deep inspiration caused rightward shifts of QRS axis (42.3° ± 29.5°, p < 0.001) and T-wave axis (49.5° ± 39.7°, p < 0.001). However, deep inspiration did not affect frontal QRS-T angle (33.9° ± 35.8°, p = 0.44). Frontal QRS-T angle in deep inspiration had good correlation (r = 0.87, p < 0.001) and agreement with that in resting state. Left ventricular (LV) end-diastolic volume had a significant association with change in frontal QRS-T angle (r = 0.29, p = 0.04). Our data suggest that frontal QRS-T angle in deep inspiration has a good correlation with that in resting state, and the agreement is acceptable. In patients with dilated LV, QRS-T angle in deep inspiration may be susceptible to the overestimation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Current electrocardiographic (ECG) machines report various variables including frontal QRS axis automatically. We tested the hypothesis that QRS axis is associated with left ventricular (LV) diastolic parameters derived from ECG-gated myocardial perfusion single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) independent of myocardial ischemia. METHODS Ninety-three patients with preserved LV ejection fraction and no evidence of myocardial ischemia were enrolled based on ECG-gated SPECT. Peak filling rate (PFR), one-third mean filling rate (1/3 MFR) and time to peak filling (TTPF) were obtained as LV diastolic parameters. RESULTS There were 82 male and 11 female patients with a mean age of 69 ± 9 years. QRS axis ranged from - 40° to 85° (36° ± 31°). QRS axis was correlated with PFR (r = 0.28, p < 0.01), 1/3 MFR (r = 0.25, p = 0.02) and TTPF (r = - 0.21, p = 0.04). QRS axis was also correlated with age (r = - 0.23, p = 0.03), body mass index (BMI) (r = - 0.36, p < 0.01) and LV mass index (LVMI) (r = - 0.27, p < 0.01). Linear regression analysis showed that QRS axis was associated with PFR, 1/3 MFR and TTPF for LV diastolic function, but was not associated with these LV diastolic parameters after adjustment of various confounders. CONCLUSIONS Our data suggest that QRS axis depends on age, BMI or LVMI, and serves as a surrogate marker of LV diastolic function.

Abstract
Evaluation of bone is of great importance in chronic kidney disease patients, as these patients are at an increased risk for fractures. We treated a hemodialysis patient suffering from hyperparathyroid bone disease with cinacalcet hydrochloride and concurrent administration of maxacalcitol and alfacalcidol for a year. Hyperparathyroid bone disease is characterized by cortical thinning, increased cortical porosity, reduced trabecular bone volume, and increased hypomineralized matrix volume, and there is little information to date about the effects of treatment with cinacalcet hydrochloride on the bone fragility in patients with hyperparathyroid bone disease. In the present study, histological and backscattered electron microscopic evaluation of this combination treatment revealed an excellent improvement of both bone volume and bone morphology. This treatment improved cortical thinning, cortical porosity, and trabecular thinning. Furthermore, the treatment also reduced hypomineralized matrix volume, indicative of improved mineralization by osteocytes. We speculate that the intermittent maxacalcitol administration may have effectively stimulated the vitamin D receptors expressed on osteocytes and osteoblasts, resulting in increased mineralization. Our approach for evaluating the bone in patients with chronic kidney disease by backscattered electron microscopy is novel.

Abstract
Acute coronary occlusion may occur in weak coronary atherosclerotic lesions, including dissection, ulceration or thrombus. In some cases of occlusion “bail-out” is performed by using recently developed New Devices. However, these have not yet completely solved the problem to this end, we designed a new method of coronary revascularization, the Intracoronary Local Adhesive Delivery Technique, utilizing antithrombotic and absorbable adhesive injected locally into the fragile and morbid arterial wall using a drug delivery PTCA catheter more flexible than the existing New Devices. This adhesive strengthened and hardened the lesions. In this study, we examined the efficacy of making an adhesive cylinder in arteries of similar size to the coronary, through acute animal experiments using the existing clinical adhesives and drug delivery PTCA catheters and 12 femoral arteries of adult goats. We were successful in forming firm tunnels along the inside of six arteries, infused with approximately 0.04 ml Cyanoacrylate. These tunnels were observed with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging and evaluated microscopically. These results suggest the feasibility of this method as a new approach for making synthetic resinous stents.

Abstract
Aortic tortuosity is often found on chest radiograph, especially in aged patients. We tested the hypothesis that aortic tortuosity was associated with LV diastolic parameters derived from gated SPECT in patients with normal myocardial perfusion. One-hundred and twenty-two patients with preserved LV ejection fraction and normal myocardial perfusion were enrolled. Descending aortic deviation was defined as the horizontal distance from the left line of the aortic knob to the most prominent left line of the descending aorta. This parameter was measured for the quantitative assessment of aortic tortuosity. Peak filling rate (PFR) and one-third mean filling rate (1/3 MFR) were obtained from redistribution images as LV diastolic parameters. Descending aortic deviation ranged from 0 to 22 mm with a mean distance of 4.5 ± 6.3 mm. Descending aortic deviation was significantly correlated with age (r = 0.38, p < 0.001) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) (r = - 0.21, p = 0.02). Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that eGFR (β = 0.23, p = 0.02) and descending aortic deviation (β = - 0.23, p = 0.01) were significantly associated with PFR, and that only descending aortic deviation (β = - 0.21, p = 0.03) was significantly associated with 1/3 MFR. Our data suggest that aortic tortuosity is associated with LV diastolic parameters derived from gated SPECT in patients with normal myocardial perfusion.

Abstract
Recently, nanocarriers that transport bioactive substances to a target site in the body have attracted considerable attention and undergone rapid progression in terms of the state of the art. However, few nanocarriers can enter the brain via a systemic route through the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to efficiently reach neurons. Here we prepare a self-assembled supramolecular nanocarrier with a surface featuring properly configured glucose. The BBB crossing and brain accumulation of this nanocarrier are boosted by the rapid glycaemic increase after fasting and by the putative phenomenon of the highly expressed glucose transporter-1 (GLUT1) in brain capillary endothelial cells migrating from the luminal to the abluminal plasma membrane. The precisely controlled glucose density on the surface of the nanocarrier enables the regulation of its distribution within the brain, and thus is successfully optimized to increase the number of nanocarriers accumulating in neurons.There are only a few examples of nanocarriers that can transport bioactive substances across the blood-brain barrier. Here the authors show that by rapid glycaemic increase the accumulation of a glucosylated nanocarrier in the brain can be controlled.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Serum sclerostin levels could be closely associated with serum phosphate and fibroblast growth factor-23 levels in hemodialysis patients with low intact parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. Further study is required to indicate whether these close associations are present in patients with spontaneously low PTH levels without any vitamin D treatment. INTRODUCTION Intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) is involved in the interaction between sclerostin and phosphate/fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) in animal models. However, their relationship in patients on hemodialysis (HD) is unclear. METHODS Data of 102 HD patients were collected regarding clinical and laboratory parameters and mineral bone disorder medications. The patients were divided into subgroups according to the iPTH level (A, <70 pg/mL; B, 70-150 pg/mL; C, 150-300 pg/mL; and D, ≥ 300 pg/mL). RESULTS The sclerostin level was significantly and positively correlated with phosphate and log of FGF23 levels in subgroups A, B, and combined A and B. Multiple linear regression analysis in the combined A and B subgroup revealed that male sex (t = 3.24, P = 0.01; 95% confidence interval [CI] 11.78 to 50.43) and phosphate level (t = 2.13, P = 0.04; 95% CI, 1.08 to 36.91) were independent factors for serum sclerostin level. The log of serum FGF23 level (t = 1.90, P = 0.06, 95% CI -1.85 to 63.50) appeared to be an important factor for serum sclerostin level. The frequency of patients using vitamin D treatment was not significantly different among subgroups A (93.1%), B (88.0%), C (85.2%), and D (90.5%). CONCLUSION Serum sclerostin levels were associated with serum phosphate and FGF23 levels in patients with low iPTH levels. Further study is required to indicate whether these close associations are present in patients with spontaneously low iPTH levels without vitamin D treatment.

Abstract
Although most cyanobacterial cells contain prominent polyphosphate bodies in the central cytoplasmic area enclosed by the peripheral thylakoid membranes, their roles are not fully understood. Storing phosphate for nucleotide production might be one of their important roles in survival of the cells. As a step towards identifying a possible contribution of the polyphosphate bodies to DNA synthesis, the relationship between polyphosphate bodies and DNA throughout cell division cycle of Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942 cells cultured under light/dark cycles was investigated with light and electron microscopy. During the dark period, the average size of polyphosphate bodies increased gradually without significant change in their number and distribution. However, during the light period, the number of polyphosphate bodies increased, while the size of each polyphosphate body decreased and cells elongated until the end of the light period, when most cells divided. The ratio of the content of polyphosphate bodies to cell length increased gradually during the dark period and decreased during the light period. Hoechst 33342-stained DNA appeared diffuse during the dark period, but in the light period it became condensed and eventually formed a wavy, rope-like structure prior to cell division. Close association between fibres containing DNA and polyphosphate bodies was demonstrated by TEM using DNA-specific staining and BrdU labelling. These regular coordinated changes of polyphosphate bodies and DNA shape during the cell division cycle, together with their intimate interaction, imply a role of polyphosphate bodies in supplying material for DNA.

Abstract
Catalytic lectins (leczymes) of frog eggs are sialic acid-binding lectins that have intrinsic RNase activity. They inhibit tumor cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo, although their cytotoxic mechanism remains unclear. RNase A has no tumoricidal activity. It is hypothesized that leczymes bind to cell surface sialoglycoconjugate receptors, enter the cell, and subsequently degrade RNA. In order to investigate the cytotoxic mechanism of cSBL, a leczyme from Rana catesbeiana eggs, we established cSBL-resistant clone RC-150 from mouse leukemia P388 cells. cSBL-treated P388 cells showed extensive RNA degradation over the course of 1 h, whereas cSBL-treated RC-150 cells showed no RNA degradation even over the course of 24 h. Treatment of P388 cells with cSBL led to decreased concentration of intracellular Ca2+, decreased protein kinase A activity, and increased protein kinase G activity. Incubation with cSBL decreased glutathione levels and enhanced glutathione-S-transferase (GST) activity in P388 cells, but had no effect on RC-150 cells. We conclude that cSBL-specific degradation of RNA occurs in cSBL-sensitive tumor cells, that cSBL leads to alteration of signal transduction and an intracellular protein kinase cascade reaction, and that internalized cSBL is detoxified by GST or thioltransferase. Our findings support a bifunctional model in which a leczyme is both an adhesive protein (binding to sialoglycoconjugates) and an enzyme (displaying RNnase activity).

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Serum malondialdehyde-modified low-density lipoprotein (MDA-LDL) and MDA-LDL/LDL-cholesterol (LDL-c) ratio are risk factors for arteriosclerosis and cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, no information is available on these parameters or their associations with coronary artery calcification (CAC) in haemodialysis (HD) patients. METHODS AND RESULTS Fifty-seven HD patients and 26 control subjects were included in this cross-sectional study. Serum MDA-LDL concentrations and MDA-LDL/LDL-c ratios were examined. HD patients had significantly higher MDA-LDL/LDL-c ratios than the controls (105.1 ± 27.5 vs. 81.4 ± 18.9 mU/mg, P < 0.001); however, there was no significant difference in serum MDA-LDL levels between the 2 groups. CAC scores were examined only in HD patients and their possible associations with the clinical/laboratory data were analysed. Analysis of HD patients showed that MDA-LDL/LDL-c ratio has an association with presence of CVD, CAC score, HD duration, MDA-LDL, or haemoglobin A1C. In addition, the CAC score was positively correlated with serum MDA-LDL level (P = 0.048) and MDA-LDL/LDL-c ratio (P = 0.006). Furthermore, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that MDA-LDL/LDL-c ratio (β = 0.04, P = 0.003) and HD duration (β = 0.16, P = 0.007) were independently associated with CAC score. CONCLUSION The MDA-LDL/LDL-c ratio of HD patients was significantly higher than that of non-HD subjects and was independently associated with the CAC score. Therefore, this ratio could be an important risk factor for CAC in HD patients.

In-situ molecular orientation behavior of isotactic polypropylene films prepared by quenching at 0°C was investigated under uniaxial and biaxial extension at elevated temperatures. Both the retardation value of film and the stress were simultaneously measured during stretching. The stress required to deform films depended on the stretching temperature, but the retardation was nearly independent of temperature.
