Abstract
Conventional metallic electromagnetic interference (EMI) shields, as well as the emerging 2D material-based shields, meet the shielding effectiveness (SE) needs of most applications. However, their shielding performance is dominated by the reflection of incoming radiation due to their high electrical conductivity, which leads to secondary pollution. This problem is getting exacerbated with the proliferation of electronics and communication networks in modern society. Thus, EMI shields that function dominantly by the absorption of incoming radiation are highly desirable. Such shields would be characterized by a green index, which is the ratio of absorbance over reflectance, close to or greater than one. For nonmagnetic materials, the best way to reduce the undesirable large impedance mismatch is to reduce the effective permittivity of the shield material. Here, we present a new EMI shield with a semiconductor Bi2S3 filler in a conducting PEDOT:PSS polymer matrix, instead of the conventional conductive fillers, to reduce the effective permittivity and demonstrate that even a light loading of only 10% Bi2S3 provides high SE of over 40 dB with a green index value of 0.75. Increasing the filler content to 15 wt% increases the green index close to unity while dropping the SE to 30 dB. The shielding mechanism is explained through electromagnetic parameter measurements and supplemented by density functional theory calculations. This work lays the foundation for the advancement of lightweight and ultrathin green EMI shields with minimum secondary pollution.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hip hemiarthroplasty has traditionally been used to treat displaced femoral neck fractures in older, frailer patients whilst total hip replacements (THR) have been reserved for younger and fitter patients. However, not all elderly patients are frail, and some may be able to tolerate and benefit from an acute THR. Nonagenarians are a particularly heterogenous subpopulation of the elderly, with varying degrees of independence. Since THRs are performed electively as a routine treatment for osteoarthritis in the elderly, its safety is well established in the older patient. The aim of this study was to compare the safety of emergency THR to elective THR in nonagenarians. METHODS A retrospective 10-year cohort study was conducted using data submitted to the National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD) across three hospitals in one large NHS Trust. Data was collected from 126 nonagenarians who underwent THRs between 1st January 2010 - 31st December 2020 and was categorised into emergency THR and elective THR groups. Mortality rates were compared between the two groups. Secondary outcomes were also compared including postoperative complications (dislocations, revision surgeries, and periprosthetic fracture), length of stay in hospital, and discharge destination. RESULTS There was no significant difference in mortality between the two groups, with 1-year mortality rates of 11.4% and 12.1% reported for emergency and elective patients respectively (p = 0.848). There were no significant differences in postoperative complication rate and discharge destination. Patients who had emergency THR spent 5.56 days longer in hospital compared to elective patients (p = 0.015). CONCLUSION There is no increased risk of 1-year mortality in emergency THR compared to elective THR, in a nonagenarian population. Therefore, nonagenarians presenting with a hip fracture who would have been considered for a THR if presenting on an elective basis should not be precluded from an emergency THR on safety grounds. TRIAL REGISTRATION Not necessary as this was deemed not to be clinical research, and was considered to be a service evaluation.

Road accidents on Indian National highways, ambulance reachability and transportation of injured to trauma facility: Survey-based introspection of golden hour. Abstract
Background The transportation system plays a crucial role in the context of socioeconomic development, whereas the highway infrastructure acts as a base for the transportation system. In recent years, a rich impetus has been given to the development of road infrastructure by Indian governance. There is a need to introspect how well the prevailing highway infrastructure is equipped with emergency rescue management during road accidents. Lack of ambulance service and trauma facilities along the highways results in a steady loss of lives and injuries and increases people's exposure to risks. Objective This study aims to determine the response time of ambulance reachability to the accident spot on Indian national highways associated with heavy commercial transportation. Also, determining the time to transport the injured to the nearest trauma facility is another factor included as an objective in this investigation. Methods The study adopted survey-based research, whereby the variables in the questionnaire were designed to record and assess the time for an ambulance to reach the accident spot and, from there, to transport the injured to the trauma management facility on Indian highways. Two hundred twenty-five participants who were either victims/relatives of victims or those involved in the rescue of the injured have participated in the survey. The dates of the accident events were 2017 and 2022. Results The survey resulted in the identification of two categories of highway accidents. The first category of accidents happened on the highways near city limits/dense settlements, and the second category occurred on the core highways. The percentage of accidents caused on the highways either adjacent to or passing through the city limits/dense settlements was reported to be higher than the accidents on the core highways. Ninety percent of the participants reported successful contact with the ambulance call/service centre, but only ~75% success rate exists for ambulances to reach the accident scene. On the core highways, the time taken for the ambulance to arrive at the accident scene is 25-35 minutes. The results from the survey ascertained that the patients were prioritised for treatment in the nearest hospitals (irrespective of having a trauma facility) at a distance of ~12-20 km, for which the time taken is ~15-25 minutes. Importantly, from the interviews, it is understood that in many cases, these hospitals have further referred to specialty hospitals located in nearby cities or trauma centres with greater facilities. Occasions exist where the injured were taken directly to hospitals 30-40 km from the accident spot, for which the time was more than 40 minutes. Conclusions The results provide evidence that in either of the accident cases on the highways that are adjacent to/passing through the city limits or on the core highways, the total time for emergency care accessibility is nearly 60 minutes or greater; this implies that in the majority of cases, there is very meagre time left to provide emergency medical care to the needy and injured on the Indian highways to abide by the concept of golden hour. Plausible reforms backed by technology for enabling highways into 'emergency rescuable highways' are highly needed to guarantee a safer and more sustainable transportation system in India.

Abstract
A versatile, robust, and stable tetrabutylammonium difluorotriphenylsilicate (TBAT) catalyst has been deployed for efficient depolymerization of silicones. This catalyst is soluble in a variety of organic solvents and is stable up to 170 °C, enabling a wide range of reaction conditions under which F--catalysed siloxane bond cleavage can be initiated. This effort offers significant advancement overcoming the traditional limitations of silicone depolymerization, such as high catalyst loading, storage and handling, and few viable reaction media.

Abstract
The pandemic Covid-19 affects mainly adult causing fatal illness specially who have co-morbidities. But as days pass by with increasing surveillances it's gradually obvious that this devastating disease also affects the children as well as neonates with greater number. The aim of study was to determine the Covid-19 in neonates. So, we can give proper emphasis on neonatal Covid-19. This cross-sectional study was conducted from April 2020 to September 2020 at Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital in Bangladesh. Neonates with suspected Covid-19 were tested for SARS-CoV-2 by RT- PCR. Newborn who had suspected or confirmed COVID-19 mother, exposed to relatives infected with Covid-19, related with cluster outbreak or with abnormal clinical courses such as respiratory distress, not responded to conventional treatment and also abnormal chest x-ray was selected for Covid-19 test. Data regarding gestational age, birth weight, gender, positive cases and other findings were collected and analyzed. Statistics analysis was done by SPSS version 26.0. Forty three cases were Covid-19 positive. Among them 28(65.1%) cases were male and 15(34.9%) female. Term was 39(90.6%) cases and preterm 4(9.4%). Twenty nine (67.5%) cases were belonged to medicine and 14(32.6%) surgical cases. Fourteen (32.5%) cases with Covid-19 lived in Dhaka and 29(67.5%) cases in outside of Dhaka. Eleven (25.5%) cases were positive for SARS -CoV-2 by RT- PCR within 3 days, among them 5 (11.6%) cases were within 24 hours of age. Nine (20.9%) and 23(53.5%) cases were test positive at day 4-7 and 8-28 days respectively. The main symptoms at admission were respiratory difficulty (12/43, 27.9%), fever (8/43, 18.6%), convulsion (8/43, 18.6%) and reluctance to feed (7/43, 16.6%). In neonate two or more diseases coexist in same cases. Sepsis was present in 20 (46.5%) cases with COVID-19. Perinatal asphyxia was present in 10(23.3%) and pneumonia in 8 (18.6%) cases. In laboratory findings low Hb% was present in 2/43(4.7%) cases, leukopenia in 4/43(9.3%), leukocytosis in 2/43(4.7%) and thrombocytopenia in 5/43(11.6%). Elevated CRP was present in 14/29 (32.6%) cases, hypernatremia in 10/33 (30.3%), hyponatremia in 1/33(3%), increased serum creatinine in 10/18(55.6%), and prolonged PT, aPTT in 2/2(100%). Hyperglycaemia was found in 1/15(6.7%) cases and hypoglycaemia in 2/15(13.3%). No organism was found in blood C/S. In chest X-ray, one showed patchy opacities in right lower lobe, another showed bilateral ground-glass opacity and third one revealed few patchy opacities in the right perihilar region. Among 43 cases 21(48.9%) were discharged with advice, 12(27.9%) cases referred to Covid-19 designated hospital, 2(4.7%) cases LAMA (Leave against medical advice) and 8(18.6%) cases died including one surgical case. A good number (43) of Covid-19 cases were found in this study. In neonates the clinical features could not be differentiated properly between Covid-19 or associated diseases unlike children and adult. The neonate may be a source of transmission of this disease. So, we should give proper emphasis on test, tracing and management of neonatal Covid-19.

Abstract
We report a spontaneous and hierarchical self-assembly mechanism of carbon dots prepared from citric acid and urea into nanowire structures with large aspect ratios (>50). Scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM) with broadly tunable mid-IR excitation was used to interrogate details of the self-assembly process by generating nanoscopic chemical maps of local wire morphology and composition. s-SNOM images capture the evolution of wire formation and the complex interplay between different chemical constituents directing assembly over the nano- to microscopic length scales. We propose that residual citrate promotes tautomerization of melamine surface functionalities to produce supramolecular shape synthons comprised of melamine-cyanurate adducts capable of forming long-range and highly directional hydrogen-bonding networks. This intrinsic, heterogeneity-driven self-assembly mechanism reflects synergistic combinations of high chemical specificity and long-range cooperativity that may be harnessed to reproducibly fabricate functional structures on arbitrary surfaces.

Abstract
Effective tissue repair requires coordinated intercellular communication to sense damage, remodel the tissue, and restore function. Here, we dissected the healing response in the intestinal mucosa by mapping intercellular communication at single-cell resolution and integrating with spatial transcriptomics. We demonstrated that a risk variant for Crohn's disease, hepatocyte growth factor activator (HGFAC) Arg509His (R509H), disrupted a damage-sensing pathway connecting the coagulation cascade to growth factors that drive the differentiation of wound-associated epithelial (WAE) cells and production of a localized retinoic acid (RA) gradient to promote fibroblast-mediated tissue remodeling. Specifically, we showed that HGFAC R509H was activated by thrombin protease activity but exhibited impaired proteolytic activation of the growth factor macrophage-stimulating protein (MSP). In Hgfac R509H mice, reduced MSP activation in response to wounding of the colon resulted in impaired WAE cell induction and delayed healing. Through integration of single-cell transcriptomics and spatial transcriptomics, we demonstrated that WAE cells generated RA in a spatially restricted region of the wound site and that mucosal fibroblasts responded to this signal by producing extracellular matrix and growth factors. We further dissected this WAE cell-fibroblast signaling circuit in vitro using a genetically tractable organoid coculture model. Collectively, these studies exploited a genetic perturbation associated with human disease to disrupt a fundamental biological process and then reconstructed a spatially resolved mechanistic model of tissue healing.

Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) semiconducting material-based photodetectors (PDs) with high responsivity and fast photo-response are of great interest for various applications such as optical communications, biomedical imaging, security surveillance, environmental monitoring, etc. Additive manufacturing such as 2D printing is a potentially less cumbersome and cost-effective alternative to conventional microdevice fabrication processes used in the production of PDs. Here, we have fabricated a Si/WS2 quantum dot-based heterostructure PD with a very short electrode gap of 40 μm by a simple printing process. The printed p-Si/n-WS2 PD shows an excellent photo-to-dark current ratio of 5121 under 405 nm illumination (23.8 mW cm-2). The printed photodetector exhibits a peak responsivity of 126 A W-1 and a peak detectivity of 9.24 × 1012 Jones over a very broad wavelength range (300-1100 nm), which is much superior to commercial Si PDs. A high external quantum efficiency of 3.9 × 104% and an ultrafast photoresponse (7.8 μs rise time and 9.5 μs fall time) make the device an attractive candidate as an efficient photodetector. The origin of high-performance photodetection is traced to a nearly defect-free interface at the heterojunction, leading to highly efficient charge separation and high photocurrent. Finally, the 2D-printed device exhibits good photodetection even in self-powered conditions, which is very attractive.

Abstract
The effects of Bacillus spp. (7 Log CFU g-1 feed) and fructooligosaccharide (FOS, 1%) as functional feed additives, either alone or in combination, were evaluated in a study on rohu, Labeo rohita fingerlings. The fish were fed different diets for 90 days, including a control diet and diets supplemented with FOS, B. licheniformis, B. methylotrophicus or synbiotic formulations of these. The results showed that the combination of B. licheniformis and FOS significantly improved weight gain, feed utilisation and protease activity compared to the other groups. Overall, the groups supplemented with probiotics and synbiotics (B. licheniformis + FOS or B. methylotrophicus + FOS) showed improvements in haematology, serum biochemistry and immune parameters compared to the control group. After 90 days of experimental feeding, the fish were challenged with pathogenic Aeromonas hydrophila, and data on haematology, immunity and stress parameters were collected. The results indicated that the application of Bacillus spp. and FOS boosted immunity and resistance to physiological stress in the fish. The highest post-challenge survival rate was observed in fish fed a diet with B. licheniformis and FOS, indicating the potential of this particular combination of functional feed additives to enhance growth, immunity and disease resistance in L. rohita.

Abstract
The synthesis of gem-difluoroalkenes by photocatalytic desulfonylative coupling of alkylsulfones with α-(trifluoromethyl)styrenes is described. Photoredox Ir complex was found to be an effective catalyst for this transformation through single electron reduction of alkyl 1-phenyltetrazolyl sulfones, providing structurally diverse gem-difluoroalkene products in good yields. The resulting alkenes could be further converted into fluorinated derivatives, highlighting the potential utility of this method in synthesis of organofluorine compounds.

Abstract
During larval rearing of Culicoides peregrinus Kieffer (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) it was obligatory to add a small quantity of mud from larval habitat to nutrient broth in culture plates. This initiated microbial growth in rearing plates which facilitated growth and development of immature. The primary aim was to enumerate gut microbial communities across the different life stages of C. peregrinus. Amplicon sequencing of the V3-V4 hypervariable region (16S rDNA) was done on Illumina Miseq platform to detect gut bacterial communities at different life stages, while ITS regions (18S rRNA) were targeted for fungal communities of the 4th instar larvae. The major findings were: 1) Phylum Proteobacteria and Firmicutes were the most abundant throughout the life stages, along with the highest bacterial alpha diversity in the egg, 2) bacterial compositions were similar to laboratory reared and field collected adults, and 3) abundant fungal phyla associated with the larval gut were Ascomycota and Basidiomycota. Furthermore, analyses of the gut microbiome with METAGENassist might be indicative of their likely function in the natural habitat. Abundant gut-associated bacteria and/or fungal genera detected in the present study could be used as dietary supplements to establish laboratory colonies for further vectorial research. While, individual roles of the bacteria or fungi in paratransgenesis are warned for their possible utilization to frame the management strategy in upcoming works.

Abstract
A natural circulation system (NCS) has a broad application in the sector of thermal engineering, for example, in nuclear reactors due to its capability in transferring heat without any support of external power or a mechanical device. NCSs, although designed for steady operation, have been found to exhibit dynamical behavior, such as periodic oscillations, depending on the input heater power. The heater power, otherwise assumed to be steady, can be fluctuating in practice. The present study focuses on the dynamics of a single-phase square NCS, which exhibits periodic dynamics and is subjected to an external harmonic perturbation (chosen as the simplest form of fluctuation) over the steady heater power. The objective of the study is to study the dynamics of NCS under external (harmonic) disturbances using the framework of forced synchronization. Toward that, a 1D transient model of a square-shaped NCS is simulated with harmonically forced input power. The transition in the nature of synchronization between mass flux oscillations and the external forcing has been characterized by varying the frequency and amplitude of external perturbation independently. We find different nonlinear effects of the harmonic forcing, such as exhibition of quasiperiodic dynamics, frequency pulling/pushing, and frequency locking or forced synchronization. The aforementioned characterization techniques open up an avenue for detailed analysis of the more complex type of fluctuating input heat in real systems.

Abstract
The present paper presents an overview of the effects of gut microbiota and probiotics on lipid-, carbohydrate-, protein- and amino acid metabolism in fish and shrimp. In probiotic fish studies, the zebrafish (Danio rerio) model is the most frequently used, and probiotic administration reveals the effect on glucose homeostasis, anti-lipidemic effects and increasing short-chain fatty acids, and increased expressions of genes related to carbohydrate metabolism and innate immunity, along with down-regulation of oxidative stress-related genes. Further, improved length of the intestinal villi and expression of nutrient transporters in fish owing to probiotics exposure have been documented. The present review will present an appraisal of the effect of intestinal microbiota and probiotic administration on the metabolism of nutrients and metabolites related to stress and immunity in diverse fish- and shrimp species. Furthermore, to give the reader satisfactory information on the topics discussed, some information from endothermic animals is also presented.

The changing economic relationship between some of the major COVID-19 impacted countries with prominent wealth: a comparative study from the view point of stock markets. Abstract
In the present work, a study has been made over the prime stock indices of some fiscally prominent countries impacted by COVID-19. The countries are separated in two ways: (1) considering gross total number of infected cases-here seven mostly impacted countries with certain global economic influence are selected; (2) considering the concentration of the infected cases-here six major impacted countries with considerable influence are selected. This sort of categorization is itself a novel strategy which is capable of including some less populated, but severely impacted countries of economic importance. The objective of the present analysis is to comprehend the impact of COVID-19 on these markets and to recognize the effect of COVID-19 on mutual association and dependence between these markets. To add more flavour of reliability, we have taken a new and fresh strategy of fixing the time frames under consideration before and during COVID-19 pandemic as uniform. We have used both linear and nonlinear Granger causality analysis and employed generalized forecast error variance decomposition analysis to review the exogeneity and endogeneity of the individual markets. The present study shows that this pandemic has changed the underlying relationship: some exogenous stock markets have become endogenous and vice versa in the pandemic. Linear relationship has been reduced radically, whereas nonlinear relationship has been improved during the COVID-affected period. TASE, the highest returned and significantly uncorrelated index, emerged as the most exogenous market in the pre-COVID period, though it is nonlinearly endogenous in the long term, in the COVD-affected period. CAC 40 is the most endogenous market for the short term in both pre-COVID and COVID-affected period. B3 and NYSE, exogenous in the pre-COVID period, turned out to be linearly endogenous in the COVID-affected duration, whereas BIST 100 and BSE SENSEX are found to be exogenous markets in the COVID-affected period according to both linear and nonlinear causal analysis. They were also exogenous in the pre-COVID era for the short-term period, with BSE SENSEX exhibiting exogeneity anti-persistently for the COVID-affected period too. Association among the markets is more in long term rather than short term. A possible conclusion is also that the markets may regain long-term association once the effect of COVID would fade away.

Abstract
It is undeniable that plastics are ubiquitous and a threat to global ecosystems. Plastic waste is transformed into microplastics (MPs) through physical and chemical disruption processes within the aquatic environment. MPs are detected in almost every environment due to their worldwide transportability through ocean currents or wind, which allows them to reach even the most remote regions of our planet. MPs colonized by biofilm-forming microbial communities are known as the ''plastisphere". The revelation that this unique substrate can aid microbial dispersal has piqued interest in the ground of microbial ecology. MPs have synergetic effects on the development, transportation, persistence, and ecology of microorganisms. This review summarizes the studies of plastisphere in recent years and the microbial community assemblage (viz. autotrophs, heterotrophs, predators, and pathogens). We also discussed plastic-microbe interactions and the potential sources of plastic degrading microorganisms. Finally, it also focuses on current technologies used to characterize those microbial inhabitants and recommendations for further research.

Abstract
PURPOSE The COVID-19 pandemic has caused 1.4 million deaths globally and is associated with a 3-4 times increase in 30-day mortality after a fragility hip fracture with concurrent COVID-19 infection. Typically, death from COVID-19 infection occurs between 15 and 22 days after the onset of symptoms, but this period can extend up to 8 weeks. This study aimed to assess the impact of concurrent COVID-19 infection on 120-day mortality after a fragility hip fracture. METHODS A multi-centre prospective study across 10 hospitals treating 8% of the annual burden of hip fractures in England between 1st March and 30th April, 2020 was performed. Patients whose surgical treatment was payable through the National Health Service Best Practice Tariff mechanism for "fragility hip fractures" were included in the study. Patients' 120-day mortality was assessed relative to their peri-operative COVID-19 status. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 27. RESULTS A total of 746 patients were included in this study, of which 87 (11.7%) were COVID-19 positive. Mortality rates at 30- and 120-day were significantly higher for COVID-19 positive patients relative to COVID-19 negative patients (p < 0.001). However, mortality rates between 31 and 120-day were not significantly different (p = 0.107), 16.1% and 9.4% respectively for COVID-19 positive and negative patients, odds ratio 1.855 (95% CI 0.865-3.978). CONCLUSION Hip fracture patients with concurrent COVID-19 infection, provided that they are alive at day-31 after injury, have no significant difference in 120-day mortality. Despite the growing awareness and concern of "long-COVID" and its widespread prevalence, this does not appear to increase medium-term mortality rates after a hip fracture.

Abstract
Introduction: Hybrid Problem-Based Learning (h-PBL) is a type of teaching-learning technique that incorporates both inperson learning and virtual learning via hybrid classroom tools. It reportedly increases student engagement, positively impact their learning process and improve communication skills. During Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) times, its applicability was further enhanced as it allowed the flexibility of teaching as well as learning from home to both teachers and students. Aim: To assess the perception and experience of 2nd phase MBBS students after undergoing training by the h-PBL method. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 2nd phase MBBS students in the Department of Microbiology at College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital, Kolkata from 15th March to 14th April 2022. A total of 111 students of 2nd phase MBBS of the college gave an informed consent to be part of the study. All inductees underwent a structured training by h-PBL technique following which their perception and experience about the exercise was sought via questionnaire. Data were presented in frequency and percentage. Association between mean scores of male and female participants was calculated by Chi-square test. Results: Out of the 111 participants, 58 (52.2%) were male and 53 (47.8%) were female with mean age of 19.5±0.5 years (range 18- 22 years). The h-PBL technique was perceived to be motivating for self-directed learning by 97 (85.6%) of the respondents. A total of 107 (96.4%) students agreed that h-PBL is more effective than traditional teaching for acquiring both theoretical and practical knowledge, learning and understanding topics correctly and also identifying and rectifying their deficiencies in knowledge and skills. More than 90% participants (102 of 111) felt that h-PBL has more potential than traditional teaching to establish fruitful student-teacher interaction and provide better feedback opportunities. Overall student satisfaction in our study showed 96.4% agreement (107 of 111). Conclusion: The students considered h-PBL model to be better than traditional teaching to help them acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills. They also felt that it improved their communication skills, teamwork ethics and motivated them to undertake self-directed learning.

Abstract
A direct Pd(ii)-catalyzed kinetic resolution of heteroaryl-enabled sulfoximines through an ortho-C-H alkenylation/arylation of arenes has been developed. The coordination of the sulfoximine pyridyl-motif and the chiral amino acid MPAA ligand to the Pd(ii)-catalyst controls the enantio-discriminating C(aryl)-H activation. This method provides access to a wide range of enantiomerically enriched unreacted aryl-pyridyl-sulfoximine precursors and C(aryl)-H alkenylation/arylation products in good yields with high enantioselectivity (up to >99% ee), and selectivity factor up to >200. The coordination preference of the directing group, ligand effect, geometry constraints, and the transient six-membered concerted-metalation-deprotonation species dictate the stereoselectivity; DFT studies validate this hypothesis.

Abstract
This study assessed some important physiological biomarkers of freshwater edible fish Cyprinus carpio following exposure to 10 % (T1) and 20 % (T2) sublethal concentrations of Alpha-cypermethrin (A-cyp) over a total period of 45 days. Behavioral responses were noticed and Kaplan-Meier survival curves were prepared during acute toxicity study. Total serum protein concentration, total erythrocyte count, hemoglobin, packed cell volume, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, and total leukocytes count were decreased significantly (p < 0.05), while the blood glucose, total serum lipid concentration, and clotting time were increased significantly (p < 0.05) over control. The most affected fish group and most significantly altered biomarker under toxic stress of A-cyp were identified using integrated biomarker response (IBR). The biomarker response index (BRI) values measured the overall health status of the treated fish and indicated that moderate adverse effects were exerted on the fish group exposed to T2 for 45 days.

Abstract
PURPOSE Thirty-day mortality of patients with hip fracture is well researched and predictive; validated scoring tools have been developed (Nottingham Hip Fracture Score, NHFS). COVID-19 has significantly greater mortality in the elderly and comorbid patients which includes hip fracture patients. Non-operative treatment is not appropriate due to significantly higher mortality, and therefore, these patients are often exposed to COVID-19 in the peri-operative period. What is unclear is the effect of concomitant COVID-19 infection in these patients. METHODS A multicentre prospective study across ten sites in the United Kingdom (responsible for 7% of hip fracture patients per annum in the UK). Demographic and background information were collected by independent chart review. Data on surgical factors included American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score, time to theatre, Nottingham Hip fracture score (NHFS) and classification of fracture were also collected between 1st March 2020 and 30th April 2020 with a matched cohort from the same period in 2019. RESULTS Actual and expected 30-day mortality was found to be significantly higher than expected for 2020 COVID-19 positive patients (RR 3.00 95% CI 1.57-5.75, p < 0.001), with 30 observed deaths compared against the 10 expected from NHFS risk stratification. CONCLUSION COVID-19 infection appears to be an independent risk factor for increased mortality in hip fracture patients. Whilst non-operative management of these fractures is not suggested due to the documented increased risks and mortality, this study provides evidence to the emerging literature of the severity of COVID-19 infection in surgical patients and the potential impact of COVID-19 on elective surgical patients in the peri-operative period.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The study aimed to look at alterations in expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) and their potential use as biomarkers in the pathogensis of SLE. METHODS SLE patients (n = 41) and healthy controls (n = 50) were recruited. Quantitative RT-PCR/ELISA assays were performed for expression of MMP and TIMP mRNA in whole blood and PBMC; and corresponding serum protein levels. Intracellular levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 proteins were analysed by flow cytometry. RESULTS Based on SLEDAI scores patients were grouped into active (SLEDAI ≥ 10) and inactive cases (SLEDAI < 10). In active cases, MMP-2 expression significantly increased and TIMP-2 expression was decreased (p < 0.0001) both at serum secretion (p = 0.0003) and mRNA (p < 0.0001) levels as compared to inactive cases. MMP-9 and TIMP-1 showed significantly reduced serum secretion and mRNA expression (p < 0.0001) in active cases as compared to inactive cases. Intracellular concentration of MMP-9 was reported to be higher in neutrophils, while MMP-2 was mainly found in lymphocytes of SLE patients as compared to controls. MMP/TIMP ratio profile was altered as SLE disease progresses. INTERPRETATION & CONCLUSIONS Findings suggest disturbed MMP and TIMP levels have a role in the pathogenesis of SLE.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Short stem hip replacements may allow preservation of proximal bone stock and minimise soft tissue disruption, easing future revision surgery. However patient satisfaction with these implants must be determined before widespread use. We aimed to compare patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) between short and conventional stem hip replacements. METHODS A systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines for studies comparing short and conventional stem hip replacements with validated PROMs. Meta-analyses were performed for studies reporting Harris Hip and WOMAC scores. Study bias was assessed with the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. RESULTS 24 studies, incorporating 2593 total hip replacements were included for qualitative analysis. 17 studies were included in the meta-analyses. Of the 7 excluded, 1 study reported the Japanese Orthopaedic Association score and 2 others reported the Oxford Hip score. All three showed no difference between the stems. A meta-analysis of 17 studies reporting Harris hip scores showed no statistically significant difference between short and conventional stems (standard mean difference (SMD) -0.06, 95% CI -0.20-0.07, p = 0.35). 6 studies reported WOMAC scores with higher scores indicating worse outcome. No difference was seen between the two groups (SMD 0.21, 95%CI, -0.01-0.42, p = 0.06). 4 studies reported higher WOMAC scores as better. Once again, a meta-analysis showed no statistically significant difference between the stems (SMD 0.28, 95% CI -0.07-0.63, p = 0.12). CONCLUSIONS Our systematic review showed no difference in PROMs between short and conventional stem total hip replacements. This is in keeping with previous evidence but is a more comprehensive analysis. Short stems may have an important role in younger individuals as they allow preservation of proximal femoral bone, minimal access surgery and are amenable to abnormal anatomy. The current literature is hindered by non-uniform methodologies and outcome assessments across studies. Further, standardised, high quality evidence is required before widespread changes in practice.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed activation of inert C-H bonds and subsequent C-C bond formation have emerged as powerful synthetic tools for the synthesis of elaborate cyclic molecules. In this report, we introduce an efficient synthetic method of 3,4-unsubstituted isocoumarins adopting an electron-deficient CpERh complex as the catalyst. The use of vinylene carbonate as a vinylene transfer reagent enables the direct construction of isocoumarins from readily available benzoic acids, without any external oxidants as well as bases. The reaction mechanism is evaluated by computational analysis to find an unprecedented "rhodium shift" event within the catalytic cycle.

Abstract
An unprecedented ruthenium (Ru)-catalyzed twofold unsymmetrical annulation of 3-O/N-allyl benzoic acid derivatives with isocyanates for the construction of dihydro-furan/indole-fused phthalimide scaffolds is discussed. This double-unsymmetrical functionalization of both o,o'-C-H bonds of arene moiety is explicitly viable under the influence of methylphenyl sulfoximine directing group constructing three different [C-C/C-C(O)/N-C(O)] bonds under a single catalytic system. A broad scope with all six-carbon-substituted arene motifs, control experiments, and gram-scale synthesis make the synthetic model viable and significant.

Abstract
The human breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP), one of the members of the large ATP binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily, is crucial for resistance against chemotherapeutic agents. Currently, it has been emerged as one of the best biological targets for the designing of small molecule drugs capable of eliminating multidrug resistance in breast cancer. In order to gain insights into the relationship between the molecular structure of compounds and the ABCG2 inhibition, a multi-QSAR approach using different methods was performed on a dataset of 294 ABCG2 inhibitors with diverse scaffolds. The best models obtained by different chemometric methods have the following statistical characteristics: Monte Carlo Optimization-based QSAR (sensitivity = 0.905, specificity = 0.6255, accuracy = 0.756, and MCC = 0.545), Bayesian classification model (sensitivity = 0.735, specificity = 0.775, and concordance = 0.757); structural and physicochemical interpretation analysis-random forest method (balance accuracy = 0.750, sensitivity = 0.810, and specificity = 0.700). Additionally, structural fingerprints modulating the ABCG2 inhibitory properties were identified from the best models of each method and also validated with each other. The current modelling study is an attempt to get a deep insight into the different important structural fingerprints modulating ABCG2 inhibition.

Transition-metal-catalyzed C-H activation followed by oxidative annulation with alkynes has been an efficient synthetic tool for the assembly of various polyaromatic scaffolds. Despite the substantial progress in this field, it is still a significant challenge to achieve the synthesis of nonsubstituted vinylene-fused compounds. In this contribution, we report a Rh-catalyzed C-H/C-H vinylene cyclization adopting vinylene carbonate as a "vinylene transfer" agent. This protocol achieves the direct annulative π-extension of imidazole- and pyrazole-fused aromatics.

Abstract
Although human ZMYND8 has been implicated as a transcriptional co-repressor of multiple targets, global association of ZMYND8 with active genes and enhancer regions predicts otherwise. Here, we report an additional function of ZMYND8 in transcriptional activation through its association with the P-TEFb complex. Biochemical reconstitution analyses show that human ZMYND8, through direct association with CylcinT1, forms a minimal ZMYND8-P-TEFb complex. The importance of ZMYND8 in target gene activation, through P-TEFb complex recruitment, is demonstrated on chromosomally integrated reporter gene as well as native target genes in vivo. Physiologically, we further show that the ZMYND8-P-TEFb complex-mediated transcriptional activation is required for all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA)-mediated differentiation of neuronal precursor cells. Finally, to detail the dual activator and repressor nature, mechanistically we show that, through its putative coiled-coil domain, ZMYND8 forms a homodimer that preferentially associates with the activator P-TEFb complex, whereas the monomer associates with the CHD4 subunit of repressor NuRD complex.

Abstract
Introduction: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an inflammatory autoimmune disease where an interplay between acute phase proteins and cytokines are involved in disease activation. Aim and Objectives: This case control study was performed to investigate interrelationship between high sensitivity C-reactive proteins (hs-CRP), Interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels and disease activity among SLE patients. Materials and Methods: One hundred forty one clinically diagnosed SLE cases were included and disease activity was noted by SLE Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI). Serum IL-6 levels were measure by cytokine multiplex assay. Serum hs-CRP, C3 and C4 levels were measure by nephelometer. The Pearson correlation test was used for correlation between hs-CRP, Il-6 and SLEDAI. Results: Based on SLEDAI, 126 patients (89.4 %) had active disease and 15 patients (10.6%) had inactive disease. Mean hs-CRP levels in SLE patients were significantly higher (12.1+ 11.5 mg/L) than controls (2.41+ 1.37 mg/L) (P < 0.0001). Hs-CRP levels among active SLE were significantly higher (13.5+ 11.4 mg/L) as compared with inactive SLE (4.4 + 2.9 mg/L) (P=0.0002). Similarly, IL-6 levels in SLE patients were significantly higher among active SLE (26.9 + 15.5 pg/ml) as compared with inactive SLE (13.9+ 10.2 pg/ml) (P=0.0001). An inverse correlation between Il-6 and hemoglobin levels between active and inactive SLE was noted (r=-0.46, P <0.0001). Conclusion: This study suggests a good correlation between hs-CRP, IL-6 and SLE disease activity indicating their direct involvement in inflammatory conditions associated with disease.

Abstract
Several studies have demonstrated associations between interleukin-18 polymorphisms and risk of systemic lupus erythematosus in different populations except one of Indian origin. We therefore investigated for the influence of interleukin-18 (-1297T/C, -607A/C, -137G/C; + 105A/C) polymorphisms on genetic susceptibility and clinical expression of the disease in Indian systemic lupus erythematosus patients. A total of 200 systemic lupus erythematosus patients and 201 controls were recruited. Genotyping of interleukin-18 polymorphisms were performed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Serum interleukin-18 levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Interleukin-18 (-1297T/C; -137G/C) polymorphisms showed significant association with genetic susceptibility to the disease in our systemic lupus erythematosus cohort. Stratification analysis revealed -1297CC and -1297C associated with renal involvement (odds ratio = 3.4, correcting p value = 0.0207), (odds ratio = 2.0, correcting p value = 0.0054) respectively. Additionally, -1297C allele frequency was significantly increased in patients with anti-nucleosome antibody (odds ratio = 2.1, correcting p value = 0.0301). Haplotype analysis showed CC haplotype strongly associated with serositis (odds ratio = 9.1, correcting p values = 0.0009) and neurologic involvement (odds ratio = 9.3, correcting p value = 0.0018). We reported a 2.7-fold increase in serum interleukin-18 levels in patients (511.5 ± 242.3 pg/ml) compared to controls (189.4 ± 80.8 pg/ml) ( p < 0.0001). Furthermore, interleukin-18 levels were positively correlated with disease activity ( r = 0.548, p = 0.0001) and renal involvement in the patients with lupus nephritis ( r = 0.569, p < 0.0001). In summary, interleukin-18 polymorphisms elucidated in this study appear to confer genetic susceptibility to the disease and are associated with renal, serositis and neurologic involvement in Indian systemic lupus erythematosus patients.

Abstract
Application of antibiotics to combat bacterial diseases in fish has been criticized due to likely emergence of drug resistance. Therefore, investigation of new bioactive compounds from natural sources has been taken into account. This study was designed to purify and characterize the bioactive compound in the cell free supernatant (CFSs) of autochthonous gut bacteria (Bacillus methylotrophicus KU556164, B. amyloliquefaciens KU556165, Pseudomonas fluorescens KU556166 and B. licheniformis KU556167) isolated from rohu, Labeo rohita. CFSs were antagonistic to fish pathogenic Aeromonas spp., moderately thermo-tolerant and active in wide range of pH (5-11). Antibacterial activity of the CFSs was reduced by the action of proteases (e.g., Proteinase K and Trypsin), indicating proteinaceous nature of the bioactive compound like the bacteriocins. Three-step purification procedure resulted in recovery of 16.97%, 18.04%, 33.33% and 6.38% activity of the antimicrobial protein produced by B. methylotrophicus, B. amyloliquefaciens, P. fluorescens and B. licheniformis, respectively. Purification at each step revealed decrease in protein content with gradual increase in the specific activity of the antimicrobial protein. The purified antibacterial compound ranged between 18.2 and 25.6 kDa. Identification through MALDI-TOF MS/MS and database search through Mascot search engine predicted that the bactericidal compound belonged to either alkaline proteases, or, transcriptional regulator and some hypothetical proteins. Apart from potential technological application of the antibacterial compound, the present study might show promise for application of gut-associated bacteriocinogenic bacteria to control diseases in fish caused by pathogenic bacteria.

Abstract
Discussed herein is an unprecedented Ru-catalyzed one-pot unsymmetrical C-H difunctionalization of arenes comprising intramolecular hydroarylation of olefins and intermolecular annulation of alkynes. This unprecedented 2-fold C-H functionalization is validated on the basis of experimental and density functional theory (DFT) study. The transformation readily occurs with the assistance of methylphenyl sulfoximine (MPS) directing group in the presence of Ru catalyst forming two C-C and one C-N bonds in a single operation. The overall process is atom economical and step-efficient and provides unusual dihydrofuran-fused isoquinolone heterocycles. Further annulation of NH and the proximal o-C-H-arene of isoquinolone with alkynes build highly conjugated novel polycyclic compounds. Overall, three independent annulations in arene motifs are visualized and thoughtfully executed; finally, 5 ring-fused structural entities are constructed forming three C-C and two C-N bonds.

Abstract
Growth and survival of Clarias batrachus juveniles (10-day old) fed probiotic Bacillus cereus (KR809412) encapsulated live feed (chironomid larvae) have been evaluated after differential exposure to the pathogenic Aeromonas hydrophila (MTCC 1739). Catfish juveniles were stocked at a density of 30 fish per tank in five experimental groups (T1-T5) along with a control group in triplicate and fed twice @ 5% of body weight day-1 for four weeks. Groups T1 and T2 were fed probiotic-encapsulated (PR) or pathogen-inoculated (PGN) live feed respectively, for initial three weeks. During this period groups T3 (PGN-PR-PR), T4 (PR-PGN-PR), and T5 (PR-PR-PGN) were differentially exposed to the pathogen. Live feed without probiotic and pathogen was offered to the control group throughout the experimental period and all other treatment groups (T1-T5) during the 4th week. Continuous exposure to probiotics in group T1 resulted in significantly higher (P<0.05) specific growth rate (SGR, % d-1) and survivability than other groups, whereas, pathogen exposed and probiotic deprived group (T2) noticed with the lowest SGR and the highest mortality. Among other treatment groups (T3, T4 and T5), group T4 resulted in improved SGR and survivability. The coefficient (r value) of 0.867 along with regression slope suggested a positive correlation (0.01 levels) between RNA: DNA and SGR. The study might suggest protective effects of probiotic B. cereus in pathogen exposed C. batrachus juveniles.SAARC J. Agri., 16(1): 105-113 (2018)
