Synthesis and Characterization of Short α and β-Mixed Peptides with Excellent Anti-Lipase Activities

Obesity is a source of significant pathologies and deadly diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. One of the most intriguing strategies in the hunt for new anti-obesity medications is the inhibition of pancreatic lipase (PL). This study presents a novel application of short α and β-mixed peptides as pancreatic lipase inhibitors. These peptides were synthesized in the solution phase and characterized using FTIR and 1H-NMR. L-proline is present in a high percentage of natural anti-lipase peptides and was used as a β-amino acid in this study to enhance anti-lipase activity and proteolytic stability. Moreover, L-α-proline was converted to β-amino acid derivatives using the Arndt-Eistert method with the advantage of stereo control at the α-carbon. The synthesized peptides with anti-lipase activity are N-Boc-β-Pro-Gly-OBz (93%), N-Boc-O-Bz-Tyr-β-Pro-β-Pro-Gly-OBz (92%), N-Boc-O-Bz-Tyr-β-Pro-COOH (91%), N-Boc-Phe-β-Pro-OCH3 (90%), and N-Boc-O-Bz-Tyr-β-Pro-OCH3 (89%). These peptides may function as lead molecules for further modification to more significant molecules, which can help control obesity.

Ferrocene-Boosted Nickel Sulfide Nanoarchitecture for Enhanced Alkaline Water Splitting

Enhanced electrocatalysts that are cost-effective, durable, and derived from abundant resources are imperative for developing efficient and sustainable electrochemical water-splitting systems to produce hydrogen. Therefore, the design and development of non-noble-based catalysts with more environmentally sustainable alternatives in efficient alkaline electrolyzers are important. This work reports ferrocene (Fc)-incorporated nickel sulfide nanostructured electrocatalysts (Fc-NiS) using a one-step facile solvothermal method for water-splitting reactions. Fc-NiS exhibited exceptional electrocatalytic activity under highly alkaline conditions, evident from its peak current density of 345 mA cm-2 , surpassing the 153 mA cm-2 achieved by the pristine nickel sulfide (NiS) catalysts. Introducing ferrocene enhances electrical conductivity and facilitates charge transfer during water-splitting reactions, owing to the inclusion of iron metal. Fc-NiS exhibits a very small overpotential of 290 mV at 10 mA cm-2 and a Tafel slope of 50.46 mV dec-1 , indicating its superior charge transfer characteristics for the three-electron transfer process involved in water splitting. This outstanding electrocatalytic performance is due to the synergistic effects embedded within the nanoscale architecture of Fc-NiS. Furthermore, the Fc-NiS catalyst also shows a stable response for the water-splitting reactions. It maintains a steady current density with an 87% retention rate for 25 hours of continuous operation, indicating its robustness and potential for prolonged electrolysis processes.

Improved photocatalytic decolorization of reactive black 5 dye through synthesis of graphene quantum dots-nitrogen-doped TiO2

Graphene quantum dots (GQDs), a new solid-state electron transfer material was anchored to nitrogen-doped TiO2 via sol gel method. The introduction of GQDs effectively extended light absorption of TiO2 from UV to visible region. GQD-N-TiO2 demonstrated lower PL intensity at excitation wavelengths of 320 to 450 nm confirming enhanced exciton lifespan. GQD-N-TiO2-300 revealed higher surface area (191.91m2 g-1), pore diameter (1.94 nm), TEM particle size distribution (4.88 ± 1.26 nm) with lattice spacing of 0.45 nm and bandgap (2.91 eV). In addition, GQDs incorporation shifted XPS spectrum of Ti 2p to lower binding energy level (458.36 eV), while substitution of oxygen sites in TiO2 lattice by carbon were confirmed through deconvolution of C 1 s spectrum. Photocatalytic reaction followed the pseudo first order reaction and continuous reductions in apparent rate constant (Kapp) with incremental increase in RB5 concentration. Langmuir-Hinshelwood model showed surface reaction rate constants KC = 1.95 mg L-1 min-1 and KLH = 0.76 L mg-1. The active species trapping, and mechanism studies indicated the photocatalytic decolorization of RB5 through GQD-N-TiO2 was governed by type II heterojunction. Overall, the photodecolorization reactions were triggered by the formation of holes and reactive oxygen species. The presence of •OH, 1O2, and O2• during the photocatalytic process were confirmed through EPR analysis. The excellent photocatalytic decolorization of the synthesized nanocomposite against RB5 can be ascribed to the presence of GQDs in the TiO2 lattice that acted as excellent electron transporter and photosensitizer. This study provides a basis for using nonmetal, abundant, and benign materials like graphene quantum dots to enhance the TiO2 photocatalytic efficiency, opening new possibilities for environmental applications.

Spiers Memorial Lecture: Towards understanding of iontronic systems: electroosmotic flow of monovalent and divalent electrolyte through charged cylindrical nanopores

In many practical applications, ions are the primary charge carrier and must move through either semipermeable membranes or through pores, which mimic ion channels in biological systems. In analogy to electronic devices, the "iontronic" ones use electric fields to induce the charge motion. However, unlike the electrons that move through a conductor, motion of ions is usually associated with simultaneous solvent flow. A study of electroosmotic flow through narrow pores is an outstanding challenge that lies at the interface of non-equilibrium statistical mechanics and fluid dynamics. In this paper, we will review recent works that use dissipative particle dynamics simulations to tackle this difficult problem. We will also present a classical density functional theory (DFT) based on the hypernetted-chain approximation (HNC), which allows us to calculate the velocity of electroosmotic flows inside nanopores containing 1 : 1 or 2 : 1 electrolyte solution. The theoretical results will be compared with simulations. In simulations, the electrostatic interactions are treated using the recently introduced pseudo-1D Ewald summation method. The zeta potentials calculated from the location of the shear plane of a pure solvent are found to agree reasonably well with the Smoluchowski equation. However, the quantitative structure of the fluid velocity profiles deviates significantly from the predictions of the Smoluchowski equation in the case of charged pores with 2 : 1 electrolyte. For low to moderate surface charge densities, the DFT allows us to accurately calculate the electrostatic potential profiles and the zeta potentials inside the nanopores. For pores with 1 : 1 electrolyte, the agreement between theory and simulation is particularly good for large ions, for which steric effects dominate over the ionic electrostatic correlations. The electroosmotic flow is found to depend very strongly on the ionic radii. In the case of pores containing 2 : 1 electrolyte, we observe a reentrant transition in which the electroosmotic flow first reverses and then returns to normal as the surface change density of the pore is increased.

Analysis of age wise fractional order problems for the Covid-19 under non-singular kernel of Mittag-Leffler law

The developed article considers SIR problems for the recent COVID-19 pandemic, in which each component is divided into two subgroups: young and adults. These subgroups are distributed among two classes in each compartment, and the effect of COVID-19 is observed in each class. The fractional problem is investigated using the non-singular operator of Atangana Baleanu in the Caputo sense (ABC). The existence and uniqueness of the solution are calculated using the fundamental theorems of fixed point theory. The stability development is also determined using the Ulam-Hyers stability technique. The approximate solution is evaluated using the fractional Adams-Bashforth technique, providing a wide range of choices for selecting fractional order parameters. The simulation is plotted against available data to verify the obtained scheme. Different fractional-order approximations are compared to integer-order curves of various orders. Therefore, this analysis represents the recent COVID-19 pandemic, differentiated by age at different fractional orders. The analysis reveals the impact of COVID-19 on young and adult populations. Adults, who typically have weaker immune systems, are more susceptible to infection compared to young people. Similarly, recovery from infection is higher among young infected individuals compared to infected cases in adults.

Typification and Nomenclature Notes on Twenty-Nine Names in Asparagus (Asparagaceae)

Nomenclatural types for twenty-nine names belonging to the genus Asparagus are typified and discussed. The following names are lectotypified: A. altiscandens Engl. & Gilg, A. altissimus Munby, A. baumii Engl. & Gilg, A. benguellensis Baker, A. burchellii Baker, A. curillus Buch.-Ham. ex Roxb., A. deflexus Baker, A. duchesnei L.Linden, A. equisetoides Welw. ex Baker, A. fasciculatus Thunb., A. griffithii, Baker, A. homblei De Wild., A. kaessneri De Wild., A. lecardii De Wild., A. longicladus N.E.Br., A. longiflorus Franch., A. monophyllus Baker, A. palaestinus Baker, A. pastorianus Webb & Berthel., A. persicus Baker, A. poissonii H.Perrier, A. psilurus Welw. ex Baker, A. ritschardii De Wild., A. sapinii De Wild., A. scandens Thunb., A. schumanianus Schltr. ex H.Perrier, A. stellatus Baker, A. subfalcatus De Wild., and A. undulatus (L.f.) The original protologue of these names and the original materials are evaluated. Nomenclature remarks discussing the selection of type specimens are given for each name, and known isotypes or isolectotypes are also cited. This information could be utilized as a reference for future taxonomic and systematic studies on Asparagus around the world.

Effects of electrostatic coupling and surface polarization on polyelectrolyte brush structure

In this work, we perform molecular dynamics simulations to study a spherical polyelectrolyte brush. We explore the effects of surface polarization and electrostatic coupling on brush size and distribution of counterions. The method of image charges is considered to take into account surface polarization, considering a metallic, an unpolarizable, and a dielectric nano-core. It is observed that, for all cases, a moderate shrinking-swelling effect appears with an increase in the electrostatic coupling parameter. This effect occurs under high Manning ratios. The curves relating the average size of polyelectrolyte brush as a function of coupling show a minimum. The results show that the grafting density of polyelectrolytes on the nano-core surface plays an important role in the polarization effect. We consider a modified Poisson-Boltzmann theory to describe the counterion profiles around the brush in the case of unpolarizable nano-cores and weak electrostatic coupling.

Socioeconomic Evaluation of Common Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) Cultivation in Providing Sustainable Livelihood to the Mountain Populations of Kashmir Himalayas

Phaseolus vulgaris L. is the major pulse cultivated and culturally inculcated in the food habits of the locals in the Himalayan mountainous region of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Pakistan. The current study was designed to investigate the role of P. vulgaris cultivation in providing livelihood support and to evaluate its production and consumption patterns correlated with the household variables in the state of AJK. The socio-economic data was collected from nine bean cultivated areas in six districts of AJK. The data was acquired by administrating a total of 522 detailed semi structured questionnaires from a diverse array of the respondents following the snowball technique focusing on yield, consumption, revenue generation and livelihood support provided by bean cultivation. The results revealed that common bean cultivation provided significant livelihood support to the local mountainous populations with an average annual income of 50.80 $/family. Subsequently, bean production contributed an average annual per capita income of 6.81 $ in the area, which was attributed to the large family size. Local populations showed an average bean production of 33.93 kg/family, whereas the average annual bean consumption was recorded as 31.99 kg/family in the region. Bean crops were recorded to have an average price of $1.49/kg, with significant variations in the study area correlated with local yield. A data analysis indicated a strong correlation in bean production and consumption patterns. Common bean farmers had a very small farm size, averaging 0.24 ha, where 100% of farmers cultivated common beans as an intercrop with Maize as the primary crop. A Pearson’s test (p value < 0.05) revealed significant correlations between land holding and bean production as well as consumption, and bean production with annual per capita income. Small farm size, declining soil fertility, low bean pricing and the unavailability of market mechanisms were identified as the major challenges faced by the common bean farmers. It is recommended to employ an integrated bean farming approach to enhance the economic impact of common bean cultivation in the socioeconomic appraisal of the local populations.

Proximate composition and spatio-temporal heterogeneity of phytochemicals in Agave sisalana Perrine (sisal) adapted in different agro-ecological zones of Punjab, Pakistan

Exploring extractable phytochemicals from locally adapted sisal plant vegetation vary seasonally at different locations. This study elaborated proximate composition and phytochemical heterogeneity in sisal due to varying environmental conditions analyzed from five districts, i.e., Chakwal, Khushab, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Layyah in Punjab, Pakistan. Extensive surveying and plant sampling across 2 years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019, during mid-spring, summer, autumn, and winter seasons were carried out for understanding the seasonal impact on sisal. The present study was designed in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) and analyzed considering seasonal, yearly, and locational impact. The spatial differences in phytochemicals concentration were strongly associated with environmental conditions prevailing in different seasons. Autumn season reflected saponins, tannins, and flavonoids in higher concentrations during 2018-2019 while steroids and terpenoids were higher during spring 2018-2019. Spatio-temporal variations in the proximate analysis were more apparent in different samples collected from different districts. Data recorded for the Khushab district and autumn season reflected the higher composition of a proximate analysis and phytochemical contents as compared to other seasons. Overall, the spatial differences in phytochemicals concentration were strongly associated with soils and environmental conditions prevailing in different seasons in selected districts.

Light and scanning electron microscopic observation of palynological characteristics in spineless Astragalus L. (Fabaceae) and its taxonomic significance

Palynological characterization is considered to be one of the significant taxonomic tools for the delimitation and identification of morphologically complicated taxa. Hence, the pollen morphology of 12 species of spineless Astragalus L. was examined using light and scanning electron microscopy. Studied pollen were small to medium, monad, prolate to per-prolate and tricolporate type in all studied taxa. The exine sculpturing varied from reticulate to microreticulate whereas colpus ornamentation ranged from scabrate to granulate. Furthermore, maximum polar and equatorial diameter was recorded in Astragalus leucocephalus Bunge. (45.00 μm) and A. pyrrhotrichus Boiss. (22.91 μm) while minimum in A. amherstianus Benth. ex Royle (28.75 μm) and A. amherstianus Benth. ex Royle (15.00 μm), respectively. Similarly, the ratio of polar to equatorial diameter was recorded maximum in A. ophiocarpus Boiss. (2.05). The width of colpi was larger in A. hamosus L. (1.29 μm) and smaller in A. ophiocarpus Boiss. (0.62 μm). We have also found the maximum value of mesocolpium in A. retamocarpus Boiss. (2.08 μm) while minimum in A. oxyglottis Steven ex M.Bieb. (1.87 μm). The quantitative pollen attributes helped in the development of pollen keys for the accurate and quick identification of the studied species. Furthermore, ordination and cluster analysis were performed for the differentiation of the investigated taxa at species level. Based on our results, we conclude that pollen features can be used for the delimitation and identification of the studied taxa.

Analysis of SIQR type mathematical model under Atangana-Baleanu fractional differential operator

In the given manuscript, the fractional mathematical model for the current pandemic of COVID-19 is investigated. The model is composed of four agents of susceptible (S), infectious (I), quarantined (Q) and recovered (R) cases respectively. The fractional operator of Atangana-Baleanu-Caputo (ABC) is applied to the considered model for the fractional dynamics. The basic reproduction number is computed for the stability analysis. The techniques of existence and uniqueness of the solution are established with the help of fixed point theory. The concept of stability is also derived using the Ulam-Hyers stability technique. With the help of the fractional order numerical method of Adams-Bashforth, we find the approximate solution of the said model. The obtained scheme is simulated on different fractional orders along with the comparison of integer orders. Varying the numerical values for the contact rate ζ, different simulations are performed to check the effect of it on the dynamics of COVID-19.

The Impact of Bio-Stimulants on Cd-Stressed Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.): Insights Into Growth, Chlorophyll Fluorescence, Cd Accumulation, and Osmolyte Regulation

It has been established that wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) has a higher Cd absorption capacity than other cereal crops causing an excess daily Cd intake and a huge threat for public health. Therefore, the reduction of Cd accumulation in wheat from the soil is a crucial food-security issue. A pot trial was performed on Cd-stressed wheat seedlings to evaluate the morphological and physio-biochemical responses via foliage spray of two different bio-stimulants, i.e., ascorbic acid (AsA) and moringa leaf extract (MLE). Two wheat cultivars (Fsd-08 and Glxy-13) were exposed to cadmium (CdCl₂.5H₂O) stress (0, 500, and 1,000 μM), along with foliar spray of AsA (0 and 50 mM) and MLE (0 and 3%). The most observable growth reduction was documented in plants that are exposed to a higher Cd concentration (1,000 μM), followed by the lower Cd level (500 μM). The wheat growth attributes, such as number of leaves per plant, number of tillers per plant, biomass yield, shoot/root length, and leaf area, were greatly depressed under the Cd stress, irrespective of the cultivar. Under the increasing Cd stress, a significant diminution was observed in maximum photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm), photochemical quenching (qP), and electron transport rate (ETR) accompanied with reduced gas exchange attributes. However, Cd-induced phytotoxicity enhanced the non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) and internal carbon dioxide concentration (Ci), which was confirmed by their significant positive correlation with Cd contents in shoot and root tissues of both cultivars. The contents of proline, AsA, glycine betaine (GB), tocopherol, total free amino acid (TFAA), and total soluble sugar (TSS) were greatly decreased with Cd stress (1,000 μM), while MLE and AsA significantly enhanced the osmolytes accumulation under both Cd levels (especially 500 μM level). The Cd accumulation was predominantly found in the root as compared to shoots in both cultivars, which has declined after the application of MLE and AsA. Conclusively, MLE was found to be more effective to mitigate Cd-induced phytotoxicity up to 500 μM Cd concentration, compared with the AsA amendment.

Study of a COVID-19 mathematical model

In this chapter, we develop the mathematical model of four compartments including classes of susceptible, infected, recovered, and death of infected ones for the recent outbreak of a coronavirus infectious disease (COVID-19). The model is investigated for both integer-order and fractional-order derivatives. The integer-order model is analyzed for an approximate solution using the Taylor's series method along with the numerical simulation showing the validity of the obtained scheme. The fractional-order model is evaluated numerically by Euler's iterative techniques and its results are compared to that of the Taylor's series scheme. The numerical simulation is drawn against the available data at different fractional orders. The fractional-order model is also investigated for qualitative analysis using the well-known theorems of fixed-point theory. The said model is also checked for feasibility and stability by using the techniques of basic reproduction number.

Implication of scanning electron microscopy as a tool for identification of novel, nonedible oil seeds for biodiesel production

Biodiesel is a promising, bio-based, renewable, nontoxic, environment friendly, and alternative fuel for petroleum derived fuels which helps to reduce dependency on conventional fossil fuels. In this study, six novel, nonedible seed oil producing feedstock were explored for their potential for sustainable production of biodiesel. It is very important to correctly identify oil yielding plant species. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used as reliable tool for authentic identification of oil yielding seeds. Macromorphological characters of seeds were studied with light microscopy (LM). Outcomes of LM of seeds exposed distinctive variation in seed size from 16.3 to 3.2 mm in length and 12.4 to 0.9 mm in width, shape varied from oval to triangular, and color from black to light brown. Oil content of nonedible seed ranged from 25 to 30% (w/w). Free fatty acid content of seed oil varied from 0.32 to 2.5 mg KOH/g. Moreover, ultra structural study of seeds via SEM showed variation in surface sculpturing, cell arrangement, cell shape, periclinal wall shape, margins, protuberances, and anticlinal wall shape. Surface sculpturing varied from rugged, reticulate, varrucose, papillate, and striate. Periclinal wall arrangements confirmed variation from rough, wavy, raised, depressed, smooth, and elevated whereas, anticlinal walls pattern showed variation from profuse undulating, smooth, raised, grooved, deep, curved, and depressed. It was concluded that SEM could be a latent and advanced technique in unveiling hidden micromorphological characters of nonedible oil yielding seeds which delivers valuable information to researchers and indigenous people for precise and authentic identification and recognition.

Priapism due to chronic myelocytic leukemia

Priapism is defined as a whole or partial penile erection that persists for more than 4 hours without stimulation. Hematologic disorders are a significant risk factor for ischemic priapism. Here, we report a case of priapism due to chronic myelocytic leukemia. This is rare considering that the epidemiology of priapism in hematologic malignancies includes only 1% of patients with chronic myelocytic leukemia. Priapism has a relatively high complication rate, and management generally focuses on prompt treatment. Hematologic screening should be performed to rule out the possibility of these disorders that could underlie priapism.

Microscopic characterization of petiole anatomy of Asteraceous taxa of Western Himalaya-Pakistan

Petiole anatomy of 15 species of family Asteraceae was examined which aimed to investigate petiolar anatomical structures for species level identification. Shandon Microtome was used for petiole histological preparations. Both qualitative and quantitative features were studied under microscope which showed significant variation in petiole, collenchyma, parenchyma shape/size, vascular bundles arrangement/size, and vessel elements quantity. Artemisia japonica Thunb., Cirsium vulgare (Savi) Ten., Myriactis nepalensis Less., Seriphidium brevifolium Ling & Y.R.Ling, Taraxacum officinale (L.) Weber ex F.H.Wigg., and Xanthium strumarium L. showed winged petioles. Maximum length and width of upper and lower epidermis was found in Tagetes erecta L. which is 23.05 ± 0.89 μm, 24.9 ± 1.257 μm length and 21.75 ± 1.38067 μm, 22.75 ± 0.467 μm width, respectively. Petioles of Parthenium hysterophorus L. was longest one with 9.85 ± 10.45 μm while A. japonica Thunb. showed highest number of vessel elements. Maximum size of vascular bundles was found in T. erecta L. with 5.05 ± 14.25 μm. Artemisia annua L., C. vulgare (Savi) Ten, Cyanthillium cinereum (L.) H.Rob., Helianthus annus L., M. nepalensis Less., P. hysterophorus L., Senecio chrysanthemoides DC. have trichomes while Tussilago farfara L. has highest number of vascular bundles. All species have angular collenchyma type except M. nepalensis Less., P. hysterophorus L., S. brevifolium Ling & Y.R.Ling, Tagetes minuta L., T. officinale L., S. chrysanthemoides DC., and T. farfara L. Cluster analysis implemented that distinct plant species in cluster. Petiolar anatomical structures and taxonomic key will helpful for distinguishing Asteraceous taxa at genus and species level. This taxonomic significant investigation will also provide baseline to taxonomists for other Asteraceae studies and phylogenetic research.

Anatomical characterization of 18 commercially important varieties of Phoenix dactylifera L. by using microscopy

Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) is an important traditional crop having socioeconomic values. To best of literature review and our knowledge, there is a gap of taxonomic study on the role of morpho-anatomical features of date palm for correct identification of its varieties. With the advancement in the field of microscopy, anatomical features are considered very effective taxonomical markers. The present study was aimed to analyze the taxonomic variations using leaf epidermal anatomy and to highlight the importance of leaf epidermis to resolve identification ambiguities among the different varieties of date palms. The study includes analysis of leaf epidermal anatomy of 18 different commercial varieties of date palm collected from different areas of Pakistan. A diverse range of shape and size of epidermal cells, subsidiary cells, guard cells, stomata, stomatal pore was observed on abaxial as well as adaxial among studied date palm varieties via LM and found to be very helpful tool in discrimination of varieties. The shape of epidermal cells on both abaxial and adaxial surfaces varies including elongated, irregular, polygonal, curved, and spherical or sometime mixed of these. The values of stomatal indices on both surfaces showed wide variations.

Exogenously Applied Gibberellic Acid Enhances Growth and Salinity Stress Tolerance of Maize through Modulating the Morpho-Physiological, Biochemical and Molecular Attributes

Soil salinity is the major limiting factor restricting plant growth and development. Little is known about the comparative and combined effects of gibberellic acid (GA3) seed priming and foliar application on maize under salt stress. The current study determined the impact of different application methods of GA3 on morpho-physiological, biochemical and molecular responses of maize seedlings under three salinity stress treatments (no salinity, moderate salinity-6 dS m-1, and severe salinity-12 dS m-1). The GA3 treatments consisted of control, hydro-priming (HP), water foliar spray (WFS), HP + WFS, seed priming with GA3 (GA3P, 100 mg L-1), foliar spray with GA3 (GA3FS, 100ppm) and GA3P + GA3FS. Salt stress particularly at 12 dS m-1 reduced the length of shoots and roots, fresh and dry weights, chlorophyll, and carotenoid contents, K+ ion accumulation and activities of antioxidant enzymes, while enhanced the oxidative damage and accumulation of the Na+ ion in maize plants. Nevertheless, the application of GA3 improved maize growth, reduced oxidative stress, and increased the antioxidant enzymes activities, antioxidant genes expression, and K+ ion concentration under salt stress. Compared with control, the GA3P + GA3FS recorded the highest increase in roots and shoots length (19-37%), roots fresh and dry weights (31-43%), shoots fresh and dry weights (31-47%), chlorophyll content (21-70%), antioxidant enzymes activities (73.03-150.74%), total soluble protein (13.05%), K+ concentration (13-23%) and antioxidants genes expression levels under different salinity levels. This treatment also reduced the H2O2 content, and Na+ ion concentration. These results indicated that GA3P + GA3FS could be used as an effective tool for improving the maize growth and development, and reducing the oxidative stress in salt-contaminated soils.

Anatomical adaptations and ionic homeostasis in aquatic halophyte Cyperus laevigatus L. Under high salinities

Salinity is extremely hazardous to agriculture worldwide and its expanding constantly. Soil of almost 100 countries facing salinity problem including Pakistan. Cyperus laevigatus also act as salinity indicator species is a naturally adapted halophyte dispersed in subtropical regions of world. Six populations of C. laevigatus were collected from different saline habitats to evaluate adaptations regarding anatomical and physiological characteristics. C. laevigatus is perfectly adapted to harsh environmental conditions like dry barren soils, saline lakes, hyper-saline wetlands and salt marshes. Ecological success of this species is due to plasticity in physiological and anatomical characteristics to adapt variable environmental conditions. C. laevigatus is a halophyte, exhibited increased biomass production in moderately saline habitat. Higher uptake of K⁺ occurs to compensate the uptake of Na⁺ ion contents, a striking feature of salt-tolerant and halophytic species. Accumulation of osmoprotectants like proline, free amino acids, soluble sugar and protein contribute significantly to osmotic adjustment. Stem thickness enhanced as salinity level of habitat increased to store water in parenchymatous tissues under physiological drought. Intensive sclerification in root cortex provide mechanical strength to plant as well as prevent the radial leakage of water. Well-developed aerenchyma, increased vascular bundle area, broader vessels, small and dense stomata are critical to cope with environmental hazards. Population of Jahlar lake showing maximum biomass production indicate that this species grows better in moderate salinities. Therefore, this species will prove very useful for revegetation of salt affected rangeland and prairies by direct growth of such halophytic ecotypes.

Investigation of fractal-fractional order model of COVID-19 in Pakistan under Atangana-Baleanu Caputo (ABC) derivative

This manuscript addressing the dynamics of fractal-fractional type modified SEIR model under Atangana-Baleanu Caputo (ABC) derivative of fractional order y and fractal dimension p for the available data in Pakistan. The proposed model has been investigated for qualitative analysis by applying the theory of non-linear functional analysis along with fixed point theory. The fractional Adams-bashforth iterative techniques have been applied for the numerical solution of the said model. The Ulam-Hyers (UH) stability techniques have been derived for the stability of the considered model. The simulation of all compartments has been drawn against the available data of covid-19 in Pakistan. The whole study of this manuscript illustrates that control of the effective transmission rate is necessary for stoping the transmission of the outbreak. This means that everyone in the society must change their behavior towards self-protection by keeping most of the precautionary measures sufficient for controlling covid-19.

Palyno-morphological characterization of selected allergenic taxa of family Poaceae from Islamabad-Pakistan using microscopic techniques

Statistics around the world show an increased risk of high allergies associated with plants. The role of allergenic pollen is now well known. The most serious allergenic diseases are asthma and rhinitis, which affect 5-30% of the population of industrialized countries. This work focuses on the exploration of allergenic grass species of Islamabad, Pakistan and use microscopic techniques to correctly identify them. This study contains 11 species of grasses which showed variations in pollen morphological features. The dominant pollen shape was prolate, prolate-spheroidal and sub oblate. The largest polar diameter was calculated for Echinochloa crus-galli (56.00 μm) while the largest equatorial diameter was found in Cenchrus ciliaris (45.00 μm). Exine ornamentation varied from Gemmate-verrucate, Scabrate-reugulate, Verrucate-reticulate, Gemmate-Scabrate, Fine-Gemmate, Gemmate-rugulate, Gemmate-reticulate, Gemmate-scabrate, Scabrate-verrucate, and Scabrate. Maximum exine thickness was found in Eleusine indica (4.90 μm) while in C. ciliaris (1.50 μm) the minimum thickness of exine was measured. In E. crus-galli (1.54 μm), the largest P to E value was measured and the smallest value was noticed in Setaria verticillata (0.86 μm). The study was performed with an aim to identify the allergenic plant species in Islamabad-Pakistan using pollen morphological studies. This study provides significant information, to arrange the pollen types within their defined classes and to discuss various pollen features for developing an allergenic pollen atlas.

Mathematical analysis of SIRD model of COVID-19 with Caputo fractional derivative based on real data

We discuss a fractional-order SIRD mathematical model of the COVID-19 disease in the sense of Caputo in this article. We compute the basic reproduction number through the next-generation matrix. We derive the stability results based on the basic reproduction number. We prove the results of the solution existence and uniqueness via fixed point theory. We utilize the fractional Adams-Bashforth method for obtaining the approximate solution of the proposed model. We illustrate the obtained numerical results in plots to show the COVID-19 transmission dynamics. Further, we compare our results with some reported real data against confirmed infected and death cases per day for the initial 67 days in Wuhan city.

Cadmium, chromium, nickel and nitrate accumulation in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) using wastewater irrigation and health risks assessment

The wastewater utilization for irrigation purposes is common practice in peri-urban areas located in vicinity of developed cities. This water contains elements like chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd) and nitrate (NO₃-N) that poses health risk when exposed to human. In this study effect of wastewater irrigation from Chakara wastewater plant, Faisalabad on growth of wheat and health risks was assessed. Pot experiment was conducted at Institute of Soil and Environmental, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad using different concentration of wastewater as treatment 100% tap water, 25% wastewater + 75% tap water, 50% wastewater + 50% tap water, 75% wastewater + 25% tap water, 100% wastewater. The results indicated that the wastewater irrigation negatively effects the plant growth and physiological parameters. The minimum plant height, grain weight, spike length, osmotic potential and SPAD values were recorded 50.33 cm, 1.47 g plant^-1, 7.00 cm, 423 and 38.91 respectively in 100% wastewater irrigation. The risk quotient (RQ _TEs) for each toxic element and cumulative risk index (RI _TEs) values were calculated. The cadmium risk quotient (Cd _RQ) for adults was on margin and value was >1 for in 75% wastewater + 25% tap water and 100% wastewater irrigation, while the RQ for Ni and Cr was <1. Maximum RI _TEs values calculated in 100% wastewater irrigation 0.424 and 0.294 for children and adults respectively. Hence it was concluded that wastewater irrigation significantly increased the accumulation rate of metals and nitrate in wheat and cause potential health risks for children and adults.

Melia azedarach Activated Carbon and its novel TiO2 Nanocomposite for Chemisorption and Photodecoloration of Reactive Orange 16: Isotherm and Kinetic Modeling

Background:

Bulk generated textile wastewater loaded with dyes is posing a stern threat to aquatic health, especially when dumped without prior treatment. Lignocellulosic waste based activated carbon (AC) and Titania (TiO2) suspension can constitute the emerging technological solution.

Objectives:

Best lignocellulosic precursor biomass, Melia azedarach (Darek sawdust - DSD), was selected for ortho-phosphoric acid impregnated AC production and novel AC-DSD-TiO2 nanocomposite was developed. AC-DSD and AC-DSD-TiO2 nanocomposites were employed for reactive orange 16 (RO16) dye adsorption in batch and decoloration in photocatalytic reactors, respectively.

Methods:

Materials were characterized by Scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersion X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). For AC-DSD production, the raw powdered biomass of DSD impregnated (value = 2) with H3PO4 at room temperature and after shaking, was placed in a muffle furnace at 100°C for 12 h in glass tubes and subsequently carbonized at a high temperature of 400°C for 30 min. Batch reactor parameters for the ACDSD- RO16 system were optimized as a function of contact time, adsorbent dose, temperature, initial dye concentration and pH. For AC-DSD-TiO2 nanocomposite synthesis, AC-DSD and TiO2 paste was dried in the furnace at 90°C and calcined at 300°C and stored in a desiccator.

Results:

AC-DSD exhibited RO16 adsorption capacity of 92.84 mg/g. The experimental data were best described by Langmuir and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherms with high R2 of 0.9995 and 0.9895 and closeness of predicted adsorption capacities of 94.15 and 88.58 mg/g respectively. This determines the chemisorption nature for RO16 adsorption onto AC-DSD. The experimental data was well explained by the pseudo-second order kinetic model. Thermodynamic parameters also suggest the endothermic, chemisorption and spontaneous adsorption reaction. Photocatalytic studies of novel AC-DSD-TiO2 revealed the higher Kc = 0.1833 value over Kad= 0.0572.

Conclusions:

Melia azedarach AC-DSD and its novel AC-DSD-TiO2 nanocomposite prove that these materials could provide an optimal solution for treating textile dye solutions effectively as the good adsorbent and photocatalyst.

Fractal-Fractional Mathematical Model Addressing the Situation of Corona Virus in Pakistan

This work is the consideration of a fractal fractional mathematical model on the transmission and control of corona virus (COVID-19), in which the total population of an infected area is divided into susceptible, infected and recovered classes. We consider a fractal-fractional order SIR type model for investigation of Covid-19. To realize the transmission and control of corona virus in a much better way, first we study the stability of the corresponding deterministic model using next generation matrix along with basic reproduction number. After this, we study the qualitative analysis using "fixed point theory" approach. Next, we use fractional Adams-Bashforth approach for investigation of approximate solution to the considered model. At the end numerical simulation are been given by matlab to provide the validity of mathematical system having the arbitrary order and fractal dimension.

Investigating a nonlinear dynamical model of COVID-19 disease under fuzzy caputo, random and ABC fractional order derivative

This paper is devoted to investigation of the fractional order fuzzy dynamical system, in our case, modeling the recent pandemic due to corona virus (COVID-19). The considered model is analyzed for exactness and uniqueness of solution by using fixed point theory approach. We have also provided the numerical solution of the nonlinear dynamical system with the help of some iterative method applying Caputo as well as Attangana-Baleanu and Caputo fractional type derivative. Also, random COVID-19 model described by a system of random differential equations was presented. At the end we have given some numerical approximation to illustrate the proposed method by applying different fractional values corresponding to uncertainty.

Photocatalytic Decolorization and Biocidal Applications of Nonmetal Doped TiO2: Isotherm, Kinetic Modeling and In Silico Molecular Docking Studies

Textile dyes and microbial contamination of surface water bodies have been recognized as emerging quality concerns around the globe. The simultaneous resolve of such impurities can pave the route for an amicable technological solution. This study reports the photocatalytic performance and the biocidal potential of nitrogen-doped TiO₂ against reactive black 5 (RB5), a double azo dye and E. coli. Molecular docking was performed to identify and quantify the interactions of the TiO₂ with β-lactamase enzyme and to predict the biocidal mechanism. The sol-gel technique was employed for the synthesis of different mol% nitrogen-doped TiO₂. The synthesized photocatalysts were characterized using thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The effects of different synthesis and reaction parameters were studied. RB5 dye degradation was monitored by tracking shifts in the absorption spectrum and percent chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal. The best nanomaterial depicted 5.57 nm crystallite size, 49.54 m² g⁻¹ specific surface area, 11–40 nm particle size with spherical morphologies, and uniform distribution. The RB5 decolorization data fits well with the pseudo-first-order kinetic model, and the maximum monolayer coverage capacity for the Langmuir adsorption model was found to be 40 mg g⁻¹ with K_ads of 0.113 mg⁻¹. The LH model yielded a higher coefficient K_C (1.15 mg L⁻¹ h⁻¹) compared to the adsorption constant K_LH (0.3084 L mg⁻¹). 90% COD removal was achieved in 60 min of irradiation, confirmed by the disappearance of spectral peaks. The best-optimized photocatalysts showed a noticeable biocidal potential against human pathogenic strain E. coli in 150 min. The biocidal mechanism of best-optimized photocatalyst was predicted by molecular docking simulation against E. coli β-lactamase enzyme. The docking score (−7.6 kcal mol⁻¹) and the binding interaction with the active site residues (Lys315, Thr316, and Glu272) of β-lactamase further confirmed that inhibition of β-lactamase could be a most probable mechanism of biocidal activity.

WHAT DETERMINES ISLAMIC STOCK RETURNS IN INDONESIA?

ABSTRACT - This study aims to empirically explore and analyze the effects of profitability, liquidity, solvency, and firm size on the rate of returns of Islamic stocks in Indonesia. A total of 30 companies registered in the Jakarta Islamic Index were selected as samples of the study using purposive sampling techniques during the 2013-2017 period and estimated using the panel model of Generalized Least Square (GLS). This study found evidence of a positive and significant effect of profitability on the Islamic stock returns, while liquidity, solvency, and company size were documented to insignificant in affecting the Islamic stock returns. The results of this study imply that to gain a maximum rate of returns, investors should pay attention to the profitability gained by the companies listed on the Islamic stock market.==================================================================================================ABSTRAK – Apa yang Menentukan Tingkat Pengembalian Saham Syariah di Indonesia? Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji dan menganalisis pengaruh profitabilitas, likuiditas, solvabilitas, dan ukuran perusahaan terhadap tingkat pengembalian saham syariah di Indonesia. Sebanyak 30 perusahaan yang terdaftar di Jakarta Islamic Index dipilih sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling selama periode 2013-2017 dan diestimasi dengan model panel Generalized Least Square. Penelitian ini menemukan bukti bahwa profitabilitas berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap tingkat pengembalian saham syariah, sedangkan likuiditas, solvabilitas, dan ukuran perusahaan tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap tingkat pengembalian saham syariah. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa untuk memaksimumkan tingkat pengembalian, investor harus memperhatikan keuntungan yang diperolehi perusahaan yang terdaftar di pasar saham syariah.

Mechanisms used by DNA MMR system to cope with Cadmium-induced DNA damage in plants

Cadmium (Cd) is found widely in soil and is severely toxic for plants, causing oxidative damage in plant cells because of its heavy metal characteristics. The DNA damage response (DDR) is triggered in plants to cope with the Cd stress. The DNA mismatch repair (MMR) system known for its mismatch repair function determines DDR, as mispairs are easily generated by a translesional synthesis under Cd-induced genomic instability. Cd-induced mismatches are recognized by three heterodimeric complexes including MutSα (MSH2/MSH6), MutSβ (MSH2/MSH3), and MutSγ (MSH2/MSH7). MutLα (MLH1/PMS1), PCNA/RFC, EXO1, DNA polymerase δ and DNA ligase participate in mismatch repair in turn. Meanwhile, ATR is preferentially activated by MSH2 to trigger DDR including the regulation of the cell cycle, endoreduplication, cell death, and recruitment of other DNA repair, which enhances plant tolerance to Cd. However, plants with deficient MutS will bypass MMR-mediated DDR and release the multiple-effect MLH1 from requisition of the MMR system, which leads to weak tolerance to Cd in plants. In this review, we systematically illustrate how the plant DNA MMR system works in a Cd-induced DDR, and how MMR genes regulate plant tolerance to Cd. Additionally, we also reviewed multiple epigenetic regulation systems acting on MMR genes under stress.

Design and synthesis of mixed micellar system for enhanced anticancer efficacy of Paclitaxel through its co-delivery with Naringin

Emergence of multidrug resistance (MDR) has limited the success of chemotherapeutic agents. Reversal of drugs efflux systems through combination therapy has got wider attention for increasing anticancer drugs efficacy. This study aims at co-encapsulation of Paclitaxel with Naringin in mixed polymeric micelles for enhanced anticancer activity of the drug. Drug-loaded micelles were prepared using two different amphiphilic block co-polymers and were characterized for morphology, size, zeta potential, drug encapsulation, in vitro release and stability using atomic force microscope (AFM), zetasizer, UV spectrophotometer, and FT-IR. MTT assay and fluorescence microscopy were used for in vitro cytotoxicity and cellular uptake studies. Nano-size micelles with spherical morphology and negative charge encapsulated 76.52 ± 0.94% and 32.87 0.61% Paclitaxel and Naringin, respectively. The micelles were thermally stable and retained 87.05 ± 0.69% and 92.88 ± 2.17% Paclitaxel and Naringin upon one-month storage. Maximum drug release was achieved at fourth hour of the study for both the loaded drugs. Paclitaxel co-encapsulation with Naringin synergistically improved its intracellular uptake and 65% in vitro cytotoxicity against breast cancer cells was achieved at its lower dose of 15 µg/mL. Results suggest that co-encapsulation of Paclitaxel with Naringin in mixed micelles is an effective strategy for achieving its higher anticancer activity.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Nitric Oxide Crosstalk Mediates Brassinosteroids Induced Cold Stress Tolerance in Medicago truncatula

Brassinosteroids (BRs) play pivotal roles in modulating plant growth, development, and stress responses. In this study, a Medicago truncatula plant pretreated with brassinolide (BL, the most active BR), enhanced cold stress tolerance by regulating the expression of several cold-related genes and antioxidant enzymes activities. Previous studies reported that hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and nitric oxide (NO) are involved during environmental stress conditions. However, how these two signaling molecules interact with each other in BRs-induced abiotic stress tolerance remain largely unclear. BL-pretreatment induced, while brassinazole (BRZ, a specific inhibitor of BRs biosynthesis) reduced H₂O₂ and NO production. Further, application of dimethylthiourea (DMTU, a H₂O₂ and OH- scavenger) blocked BRs-induced NO production, but BRs-induced H₂O₂ generation was not sensitive to 2-phenyl-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide (PTIO, a scavenger of NO). Moreover, pretreatment with DMTU and PTIO decreased BL-induced mitochondrial alternative oxidase (AOX) and the photosystem capacity. However, pretreatment with PTIO was found to be more effective than DMTU in reducing BRs-induced increases in Valt, Vt, and MtAOX1 gene expression. Similarly, BRs-induced photosystem II efficiency was found in NO dependent manner than H₂O₂. Finally, we conclude that H₂O₂ was involved in NO generation, whereas NO was found to be crucial in BRs-induced AOX capacity, which further contributed to the protection of the photosystem under cold stress conditions in Medicago truncatula.

Preliminary investigation of novel tetra-tailed macrocycle amphiphile based nano-vesicles for amphotericin B improved oral pharmacokinetics

Supramolecular macrocycles-based drug delivery systems are receiving wider recognition due to their self-assembly into nanostructures with unique characteristics. This study reports synthesis of resorcinarene-based novel and biocompatible amphiphilic supramolecular macrocycle that self-assembles into nano-vesicular system for Amphotericin B (Am-B) delivery, a model hydrophobic drug. The macrocycle was synthesized through a two-step reaction and was characterized with 1H NMR and mass spectrometric techniques. Its biocompatibility was assessed in cancer cell lines, blood and animals. Its critical micelle concentration (CMC) was determined using UV spectrophotometer. Am-B loaded in novel macrocycle-based vesicles were examined according to their shape, size, surface charge, drug entrapment efficiency and excepients compatibility using atomic force microscope (AFM), Zetasizer, HPLC and FT-IR spectroscopy. Drug-loaded vesicles were also investigated for their in-vitro release, stability and in-vivo oral bioavailability in rabbits. The macrocycle was found to be nontoxic against cancer cells, haemo-compatible and safe in mice and revealed lower CMC. It formed mono-dispersed spherical shape vesicles of 174.4 ± 3.78 nm in mean size. Vesicles entrapped 92.05 ± 4.39% drug and were stable upon storage with gastric-simulated fluid and increased the drug oral bioavailability in rabbits. Results confirmed novel macrocycle as biocompatible vesicular nanocarrier for enhancing the oral bioavailability of lipophilic drugs.

Synthesis, in vitro and in silico studies of S-alkylated 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiols as cholinesterase inhibitors

The research was aimed to unravel the enzymatic potential of sequentially transformed new triazoles by chemically converting 4-methoxybenzoic acid via Fischer's esterification to 4-methoxybenzoate which underwent hydrazinolysis and the corresponding hydrazide (1) was cyclized with phenyl isothiocyanate (2) via 2-(4-methoxybenzoyl)-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide (3); an intermediate to 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-thiol (4). The electrophiles; alkyl halides 5(a-g) were further reacted with nucleophilic S-atom to attain a series of S-alkylated 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiols 6(a-g). Characterization of synthesized compounds was accomplished by contemporary spectral techniques such as FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and EI-MS. Excellent cholinesterase inhibitory potential was portrayed by 3-(n-heptylthio)-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole; 6g against AChE (IC50; 38.35±0.62μM) and BChE (IC50; 147.75±0.67μM) enzymes. Eserine (IC50; 0.04±0.01μM) was used as reference standard. Anti-proliferative activity results ascertained that derivative encompassing long straight chain substituted at S-atom of the moiety was the most potent with 4.96 % cell viability (6g) at 25μM and with 2.41% cell viability at 50μMamong library of synthesized derivatives. In silico analysis also substantiated the bioactivity statistics.

Identification of monocot flora using pollen features through scanning electron microscopy

Pollen used to track structural and functional evolution in plants as well as to investigate the problems relative to plant classification. Pollen characters including ornamentation, shape, apertural pattern, pollen symmetry, colpus length, width, and margins used to detect the similarities and dissimilarities between genera and also species of the same genus. In this study pollen features of 20 monocot species belonging to 15 genera of the Amaryllidaceae, Asparagaceae, Iridaceae, Ixioliriaceae, Liliaceae, and Xanthorrhoeaceae were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light microscopy (LM). In this study two species that is Zephyranthes citrina and Tulbaghia violacea were reported for the first time from Pakistan. Pollen grains were visualized with LM. Non-acetolyzed and acetolyzed pollen were examined using SEM. A taxonomic key was developed to highlight the variation in pollen features in order to make their systematic application for correct species identification.

Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry Analysis and Cytotoxicity of Asparagus adscendens Roots against Human Cancer Cell Lines

BACKGROUND

Asparagus adscendens Roxb. (Asparagaceae), is native to the Himalayas. This plant has been used in the prevention and effective treatment of various forms of cancers.

OBJECTIVE

This paper reports, for the first time, on the cytotoxicity of the methanol (MeOH) extract of the roots of A. adscendens and its solid-phase extraction (SPE) fractions against four human carcinoma cell lines and LC-ESI-QTOF-MS analysis of the SPE fractions.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Finely powdered roots of A. adscendens were macerated in methanol and extracted through SPE using gradient solvent system (water: methanol) proceeded for analysis on LC-ESI-QTOF-MS and cytotoxicity against four human carcinoma cell lines: breast (MCF7), liver (HEPG2), lung (A549), and urinary bladder (EJ138), using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazoliumbromide assay.

RESULTS

The MeOH extract and four SPE fractions exhibited cytotoxicity against all cell lines with the IC50 values ranging from 6 to 79 μg/mL. As observed in other Asparagus species, the presence of saponins and sapogenins in the SPE fractions was evident in the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry data.

CONCLUSION

It is reasonable to assume that the cytotoxicity of the MeOH extract of the roots of A. adscendens and its SPE fractions, at least partly, due to the presence of saponins and their aglycones. This suggests that A. adscendens could be exploited as a potential source of cytotoxic compounds with putative anticancer potential.

SUMMARY

Cytotoxicity, In vitro anti-Leishmanial and fingerprint HPLC- photodiode array analysis of the roots of Trillium govanianum

Trillium govanianum Wall. ex D. Don (Melanthiaceae alt. Trilliaceae), commonly known as 'nagchhatry' or 'teen patra', distributed from Pakistan to Bhutan about 2500-3800 m altitude is indigenous to Himalayas region. In folk medicine the plant has been reported for the treatment of wound healing, sepsis and in various sexual disorders. This paper reports, for the first time, to evaluate the cytotoxicity, in vitro anti-leishmanial (promastigotes) and fingerprint HPLC-photodiode array analysis of the MeOH extract of the roots of T. govanianum and its solid phase extraction fractions. Reverse phase HPLC-PDA based quantification revealed the presence of significant amount of quercetin, myrecetin and kaemferol ranging from 0.221to 0.528 μg/mg DW. MeOH extract revealed distinguishable protein kinase inhibitory activity against Streptomyces 85E strain with 18 mm bald phenotype. The remarkable toxicity profile against brine shrimps and leishmanial was manifested by MeOH extract with LC₅₀ 10 and 38.5 μg/mL, respectively.
