Abstract
Sulfur plays an essential role in agricultural production, but few studies have been reported on how sulfur simultaneously impacts the transformation of cadmium (Cd) and arsenic (As) in the soil-rice system. This research selected two soils co-contaminated with both Cd and As, varying in acidity and alkalinity levels, to study the impacts of elemental sulfur (S) and calcium sulfate (CaSO4) on the migration and accumulation of Cd and As by rice. Results indicated that two types of sulfur had a substantial (P < 0.05) impact on decreasing the contents of Cd (28.3-50.4 %) and As (20.1-38.6 %) in brown rice in acidic and alkaline soils. They also increased rice biomass (29.3-112.8 %) and reduced Cd transport coefficient (27.2-45.6 %) significantly (P < 0.05). Notably, sulfur augmented the generation of iron plaque on rice root surfaces, which increased the fixation of Cd (17.6-61.0 %) and As (14.0-45.9 %). SEM-EDS results also indicated that the rice root surface exhibited significant enrichment of Fe, Cd, and As. The mechanism of simultaneous Cd and As immobilization by sulfur application was mainly ascribed to the contribution of iron plaque. Additionally, sulfur reduced the contents of Cd and As in soil porewater and promoted the transformation of As(III) to As(V) to reduce the toxicity of As. The K-edge XAFS of As in iron plaque also confirmed that sulfur application significantly promoted As(III) oxidation. Sulfur also promoted the activities of antioxidant enzymes and the contents of NPT, GSH, and PCs in rice plants. In general, this study establishes a foundation for sulfur to lower As and Cd bioavailability in paddy soils, enhance iron plaque and rice resistance, and reduce heavy metal accumulation.

Abstract
Allergic asthma is a chronic non-communicable disease characterized by lung tissue inflammation. Current treatments can alleviate the clinical symptoms to some extent, but there is still no cure. Recently, the transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has emerged as a potential approach for treating allergic asthma. Gingival-derived mesenchymal stem cells (GMSCs), a type of MSC recently studied, have shown significant therapeutic effects in various experimental models of autoimmune diseases. However, their application in allergic diseases has yet to be fully elucidated. In this study, using an OVA-induced allergic asthma model, we demonstrated that GMSCs decrease CD11b+CD11c+ proinflammatory dendritic cells (DCs), reduce Th2 cells differentiation, and thus effectively diminish eosinophils infiltration. We also identified that the core functional factor, hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) secreted by GMSCs, mediated its effects in relieving airway inflammation. Taken together, our findings indicate GMSCs as a potential therapy for allergic asthma and other related diseases.

Abstract
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have demonstrated potent immunomodulatory properties that have shown promise in the treatment of autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the inherent heterogeneity of MSCs triggered conflicting therapeutic outcomes, raising safety concerns and limiting their clinical application. This study aimed to investigate the potential of extracellular vesicles derived from human gingival mesenchymal stem cells (GMSC-EVs) as a therapeutic strategy for RA. Through in vivo experiments using an experimental RA model, our results demonstrate that GMSC-EVs selectively homed to inflamed joints and recovered Treg and Th17 cell balance, resulting in the reduction of arthritis progression. Our investigations also uncovered miR-148a-3p as a critical contributor to the Treg/Th17 balance modulation via IKKB/NF-κB signaling orchestrated by GMSC-EVs, which was subsequently validated in a model of human xenograft versus host disease (xGvHD). Furthermore, we successfully developed a humanized animal model by utilizing synovial fibroblasts obtained from patients with RA (RASFs). We found that GMSC-EVs impeded the invasiveness of RASFs and minimized cartilage destruction, indicating their potential therapeutic efficacy in the context of patients with RA. Overall, the unique characteristics - including reduced immunogenicity, simplified administration, and inherent ability to target inflamed tissues - position GMSC-EVs as a viable alternative for RA and other autoimmune diseases.

Abstract
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) is a life-threatening vascular disease characterized by the weakening and ballooning of the abdominal aorta, which has no effective therapeutic approaches due to unclear molecular mechanisms. Using single-cell RNA sequencing, we analyzed the molecular profile of individual cells within control and AAA abdominal aortas. We found cellular heterogeneity, with increased plasmacytoid dendritic cells and reduced endothelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in AAA. Up-regulated genes in AAA were associated with muscle tissue development and apoptosis. Genes controlling VSMCs aberrant switch from contractile to synthetic phenotype were significantly enriched in AAA. Additionally, VSMCs in AAA exhibited cell senescence and impaired oxidative phosphorylation. Similar observations were made in a mouse model of AAA induced by Angiotensin II, further affirming the relevance of our findings to human AAA. The concurrence of gene expression changes between human and mouse highlighted the impairment of oxidative phosphorylation as a potential target for intervention. Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT, also named VISFATIN) signaling emerged as a signature event in AAA. NAMPT was significantly downregulated in AAA. NAMPT-extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from mesenchymal stem cells restored NAMPT levels, and offered protection against AAA. Furthermore, NAMPT-EVs not only repressed injuries, such as cell senescence and DNA damage, but also rescued impairments of oxidative phosphorylation in both mouse and human AAA models, suggesting NAMPT supplementation as a potential therapeutic approach for AAA treatment. These findings shed light on the cellular heterogeneity and injuries in AAA, and offered promising therapeutic intervention for AAA treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). However, the involvement of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) in EMT and their contributions to CRSwNP has not been extensively investigated. METHODS SEVs were isolated from nasal mucosa through ultracentrifugation. MicroRNA sequencing and reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction were employed to analyze the differential expression of microRNAs carried by sEVs. Human nasal epithelial cells (hNECs) were used to assess the EMT-inducing effect of sEVs/microRNAs. EMT-associated markers were detected by western blotting and immunofluorescence. Dual-luciferase reporter assay was performed to determine the target gene of miR-375-3p. MicroRNA mimic, lentiviral, and plasmid transduction were used for functional experiments. RESULTS In line with the greater EMT status in eosinophilic CRSwNP (ENP), sEVs derived from ENP (ENP-sEVs) could induce EMT in hNECs. MiR-375-3p was elevated in ENP-sEVs compared to that in control and nonENP. MiR-375- 3p carried by ENP-sEVs facilitated EMT by directly targeting KH domain containing RNA binding (QKI) at seed sequences of 913-919, 1025-1033, and 2438-2444 in 3'-untranslated region. Inhibition of QKI by miR-375-3p overexpression promoted EMT, which could be reversed by restoration of QKI. Furthermore, the abundance of miR-375-3p in sEVs was closely correlated with the clinical symptom score and disease severity. CONCLUSIONS MiR-375-3p-enriched sEVs facilitated EMT by suppressing QKI in hNECs. The association of miR-375-3p with disease severity underscores its potential as both a diagnostic marker and a therapeutic target for the innovative management of CRSwNP.

Abstract
Microbial anabolism and catabolism regulate the accumulation and dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC). However, very little attention has been paid to the role of microbial functional traits in the accumulation and dynamics of SOC in forest soils. In this study, nine forest soils were selected at three altitudes (600 m, 1200 m, and 1500 m) and three soil depths (0-15 cm, 15-30 cm, and 30-45 cm) located in Jiugong Mountain. Vertical traits of functional genes encoding microbial carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes) were observed using metagenomic sequencing. Soil amino sugars were used as biomarkers to indicate microbial residue carbon (MRC). The results showed that GH1 (β-glucosidase: 147.49 TPM) and GH3 (β-glucosidase: 109.09 TPM) were the dominant genes for plant residue decomposition, and their abundance increased with soil depth and peaked in the deep soil at 600 m (GH1: 147.89 TPM; GH3: 109.59 TPM). The highest abundance of CAZymes for fungal and bacterial residue decomposition were GH18 (chitinase: 30.81 TPM) and GH23 (lysozyme: 58.02 TPM), respectively. The abundance of GH18 increased with soil depth, while GH23 showed the opposite trend. Moreover, MRC accumulation was significantly positively correlated with CAZymes involved in the degradation of hemicellulose (r = 0.577, p = 0.002). Compared with the soil before incubation, MRC in the topsoil at the low and middle altitudes after incubation increased by 4 % and 8 %, respectively, while MRC in the soils at 1500 m tended to decrease (p > 0.05). The mineralization capacity of SOC at 1500 m was significantly higher than that at 1200 m and 600 m (p < 0.05). Our results suggested that microbial function for degrading plant residue components, especially hemicellulose and lignin, contributed greatly to SOC accumulation and dynamics. These results were vital for understanding the roles of microbial functional traits in C cycling in forest.

Abstract
Although immunosuppressive drugs for targeting T cells are the standard of care in acute transplantation rejection, the role of innate immune cells should not be ignored. Here, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and flow cytometry are performed to reveal the dynamic changes of innate immune cells within the acute rejection time and find a significantly-increased presence of Ly6G- Ly6C+ inflammatory macrophages and decreased presence of neutrophils among all types of immune cells. Next, to further explore potential targets regulating Ly6G- Ly6C+ inflammatory macrophages, scRNA-seq is used to analyze the reciprocal signaling of both neutrophils and macrophages, along with the surface genes of macrophages. It is found that activating colony-stimulating factor 1/ colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor (CSF1/CSF1R) andcluster of differentiation 47/signal regulatory protein α (CD47/SIRPα) signaling may serve as a strategy to relieve Ly6G- Ly6C+ inflammatory macrophage-mediated early graft rejection. To investigate this hypothesis, CSF1/CD47 dual-targeting nanovesicles (NVs) derived from IFN-γ-stimulated induced pluripotent stem cell-derived mesenchymal stem cells ( iPSC-MSCs )are designed and constructed. It is confirmed that CSF1/CD47 NVs synergistically induce the differentiation of Ly6G- Ly6C- M2 inhibitory macrophages by the CSF1/CSF1R pathway, and inhibit the phagocytosis of inflammatory macrophages and inflammatory response by the CD47/SIRPα pathway, ultimately relieving immune rejection. This study highlights the power of dual-targeting CSF1/CD47 NVs as an immunosuppressant against early innate immune responses with the potential for broad clinical applications.

Abstract
In arsenic (As)-contaminated paddy soil, microbial-driven nitrate (NO3-) reduction coupled with arsenite (As(III)) oxidation can reduce As toxicity, but the whereabouts of NO3- remain unclear. In this study, the experiments were established using selective streptomycin (STP) and cyclohexylamine to inhibit bacterial and fungal functional responses, respectively, and metagenomic sequencing techniques were used to explain the biological mechanisms of NO3- reduction coupled with As(III) oxidation in neutral As-contaminated paddy soil. The results indicated that fungal denitrification resulted in stronger nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions (321.6 μg kg-1) than bacterial denitrification (175.9 μg kg-1) in neutral As-contaminated paddy soil, but NO3- reduction coupled with As(III) oxidation reduced the N2O emissions. Only adding STP led to ammonium (NH4+) generation (17.7 mg kg-1), and simultaneously more NH4+ appeared in NO3- reduction coupled with As(III) oxidation; this may be because it improved the electron transfer efficiency by 18.2 %. Achromobacter was involved in denitrification coupled with As(III) oxidation. Burkholderiales was responsible for NO3- reduction to NH4+ coupled with As(III) oxidation. This study provided a theoretical basis for NO3- reduction coupled with As(III) oxidation reducing N2O emissions, promoting the reduction of NO3- to NH4+, and reducing As toxicity in paddy soil.

Abstract
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease, with sporadic form being the predominant type. Neuroinflammation plays a critical role in accelerating pathogenic processes in AD. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived small extracellular vesicles (MSC-sEVs) regulate inflammatory responses and show great promise for treating AD. Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived MSCs are similar to MSCs and exhibit low immunogenicity and heterogeneity, making them promising cell sources for clinical applications. This study examined the anti-inflammatory effects of MSC-sEVs in a streptozotocin-induced sporadic mouse model of AD (sAD). The intracisternal administration of iPSC-MSC-sEVs alleviated NLRP3/GSDMD-mediated neuroinflammation, decreased amyloid deposition and neuronal apoptosis, and mitigated cognitive dysfunction. Furthermore, it explored the role of miR-223-3p in the iPSC-MSC-sEVs-mediated anti-inflammatory effects in vitro. miR-223-3p directly targeted NLRP3, whereas inhibiting miR-223-3p almost completely reversed the suppression of NLRP3 by MSC-sEVs, suggesting that miR-223-3p may, at least partially, account for MSC-sEVs-mediated anti-inflammation. Results obtained suggest that intracisternal administration of iPSC-MSC-sEVs can reduce cognitive impairment by inhibiting NLRP3/GSDMD neuroinflammation in a sAD mouse model. Therefore, the present study provides a proof-of-principle for applying iPSC-MSC-sEVs to target neuroinflammation in sAD.

Abstract
There were limited researches on the scientific disposal of As-enriched plants, and how to reduce the available As content in the processed products and improve the utilization value were the key. In this study, the effect and mechanism of biochar produced by the As-enriched Pteris vittate before and after modification on the removal of As(III) in water were studied. The results indicated that the available As contents of Fe-BC300 and Fe-BC500 were reduced by 78.7 % and 91.9 % compared to original biochars, respectively. Modified biochars not only had a large adsorption capacity for As(III) (50.3 and 39.7 mg/g), but also can efficiently oxidize As(III) to As(V). The removal rate of As(III) by modified biochar was still higher than 50% after 3 cycles. The increase of the point of zero charge and the introduction of Fe were the main reasons for its efficient adsorption and oxidation of As(III).

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics and risk factors of protein energy wasting (PEW) in children with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Methods: Clinical data of 231 children with chronic kidney disease hospitalized in Beijing Children's Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University from January 2018 to January 2023 were retrospectively analyzed to explore the incidence of PEW. According to the diagnostic criteria of CKDPEW, they were divided into a CKDPEW group and a non PEW group. The comparison between the groups was performed by independent-sample t test and Chi-squared test, and the risk factors were analyzed by multivariate Logistic regression. Results: Among the 231 children, there were 138 males and 93 females, with a visiting age of 9.9 (7.9, 16.0) years; 6 cases were in stage 1, 14 cases in stage 2, 51 cases in stage 3, 36 cases in stage 4, and 124 cases in stage 5. A total of 30 children (13.0%) with CKD PEW were diagnosed at the age of 7. 1 (3.8, 13.2) years, including 1 case in stage 1, 1 case in stage 2, 5 cases in stage 3, 5 cases in stage 4, and 18 cases in stage 5. There were a total of 201 cases (87.0%) in the non PEW group, diagnosed at the age of 11.8 (8.5, 12.2) years, including 5 cases in stage 1, 13 cases in stage 2, 46 cases in stage 3, 31 cases in stage 4, and 106 cases in stage 5. The Chi-squared test and t test showed that the systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, birth weight and carbon dioxide binding capacity of the CKD PEW group were lower than those of the non PEW group ((109±22) vs. (120±20) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa), (72±19) vs. (79±16) mmHg, (2.9±0.5) vs. (3.2±0.6) kg, (17±4) vs. (19±4) mmol/L,t=2.85, 2.14, 0.67, 2.63, all P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that carbon dioxide binding capacity and birth weight were independent protective factors of CKDPEW in children (OR=0.81 and 0.36, 95%CI=0.73-0.90 and 0.17-0.77, respectively; both P<0.01); the risk of PEW in CKD children decreased by 0.187 times for every 1 mmol/L increment in carbon dioxide binding capacity, and 0.638 times for every 1 kg increment in birth weight. Conclusions: The incidence of protein energy expenditure in children with chronic kidney disease is lower than that in the previous researches. PEW can appear in CKD 1-2 stage, and attention should be paid to it in the early stage of CKD in clinical practice. Low birth weight CKD children are susceptible to PEW, and actively correcting metabolic acidosis can reduce the risk of CKDPEW.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Accessible measurements for the early detection of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) due to Alzheimer's disease (AD) are urgently needed to address the increasing prevalence of AD. OBJECTIVE To determine the benefits of a composite MemTrax Memory Test and AD-related blood biomarker assessment for the early detection of MCI-AD in non-specialty clinics. METHODS The MemTrax Memory Test and Montreal Cognitive Assessment were administered to 99 healthy seniors with normal cognitive function and 101 patients with MCI-AD; clinical manifestation and peripheral blood samples were collected. We evaluated correlations between the MemTrax Memory Test and blood biomarkers using Spearman's rank correlation analyses and then built discrimination models using various machine learning approaches that combined the MemTrax Memory Test and blood biomarker results. The models' performances were assessed according to the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve. RESULTS The MemTrax Memory Test and Montreal Cognitive Assessment areas under the curve for differentiating patients with MCI-AD from the healthy controls were similar. The MemTrax Memory Test strongly correlated with phosphorylated tau 181 and amyloid-β 42/40. The area under the curve for the best composite MemTrax Memory Test and blood biomarker model was 0.975 (95% confidence interval: 0.950-0.999). CONCLUSION Combining MemTrax Memory Test and blood biomarker results is a promising new technique for the early detection of MCI-AD.

[A comparative study of the curative effects between butterfly-shaped flap and propeller flap based on the dorsal branch of digital artery in repairing the wound in volar aspect of finger]. Abstract
Objective: To compare the curative effects of butterfly-shaped flap based on the dorsal branch of digital artery (hereinafter referred to as butterfly-shaped flap) and propeller flap based on the dorsal branch of digital artery (hereinafter referred to as propeller flap) in repairing the wound in volar aspect of finger. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted. From August 2018 to April 2022, 16 patients with finger palmar wounds admitted to Ruijin Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and 7 patients with finger palmar wounds admitted to General Hospital of PLA Central Theater Command met the inclusion criteria, including 14 males and 9 females, aged 25 to 64 years. After debridement or resection of skin benign tumor, the wounds ranged from 0.5 cm×0.5 cm to 1.5 cm×1.5 cm. According to the different rotation axes of flap pedicle during wound repair, the patients were divided into butterfly-shaped flap group (8 cases) and propeller flap group (15 cases), and their wounds were repaired by butterfly-shaped flap (with area of 0.5 cm×0.5 cm-1.5 cm×1.3 cm) or propeller flap (with area of 0.7 cm×0.5 cm-1.5 cm×1.5 cm) , respectively. In propeller flap group, wounds in the donor sites were repaired by full-thickness skin grafts taken from the palms of wrists or the groin. The surgical time, postoperative complications, flap survival, and wound healing time of patients in the two groups were recorded. Data were statistically analyzed with independent sample t test, Mann Whitney U test, or Fisher's exact probability test. Results: The surgical time and postoperative wound healing time of patients in butterfly-shaped flap group ((43±9) min and (13.1±0.8) d, respectively) were both significantly shorter than those in propeller flap group ((87±16) min and (16.7±4.6) d, respectively, with t values of -7.03 and -2.86, respectively, P<0.05). The postoperative flap survival and complications of patients between the two groups were both similar (P>0.05). Conclusions: For repairing the wound in volar aspect of finger, the butterfly-shaped flap has more advantages in comparison with the traditional propeller flap. The butterfly-shaped flap has a short surgical time and fast postoperative recovery, which is worthy of clinical promotion.

Abstract
The co-oxidation of Fe(II) and As(III) occurs under aerobic conditions, and Fe(II) may largely determine the fate of As(III), but the effect of Fe(II) on the As(III) oxidation is barely explored. In this research, the limiting and driving roles of Fe(II) in As(III) oxidation were systematically studied through batch kinetic studies in combination with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) depth profiling, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM-EDS), and quenching experiments. The results showed that As(III) oxidation efficiency increased with the increase of Fe/As molar ratio (from 63.1% to 98.3%), but decreased with the increase of pH (from 96.0% to 44.2%) and the increase of air flow rate (from 88.1% to 75.1%). The Fe(II) oxidation rate increased with the increase of pH and air flow rate. When Fe(II) was oxidized rapidly, As(III) was more likely to be immobilized in the "inner sphere" of formed Fe (hydr)oxides, limiting As(III) oxidation. On the other hand, Fe(II) was oxidized to produce Fe (hydr)oxides to adsorb or fix As(III); meanwhile, the ROS generated by Fenton-like reaction of Fe(II) promoted As(III) oxidation, especially, •O2- and H2O2 were important ROS that drove the As(III) oxidation. These findings might provide a new insight for Fe(II) and As(III) geochemistry cycling in naturally occurring environment.

Abstract
Objective: To examine the feasibility and surgical approach of removing type D trigeminal schwannoma through nasal cavity and nasal sinus under endoscope. Methods: Eleven patients with trigeminal schwannoma who were treated in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Qilu Hospital of Shandong University from December 2014 to August 2021 were analyzed retrospectively in this study. There were 7 males and 4 females, aged (47.5±13.5) years (range: 12 to 64 years). The neoplasm involved the pterygopalatine fossa, infratemporal fossa, ethmoidal sinus, sphenoid sinus, cavernous sinus, and middle cranial fossa. The size of tumors were between 1.6 cm×2.0 cm×2.0 cm and 5.7 cm×6.0 cm×6.0 cm. Under general anesthesia, the tumors were resected through the transpterygoid approach in 4 cases, through the prelacrimal recess approach in 4 cases, through the extended prelacrimal recess approach in 2 cases, and through the endoscopic medial maxillectomy approach in 1 case. The nasal endoscopy and imaging examination were conducted to detect whether neoplasm recurred or not, and the main clinical symptoms during follow-up. Results: All the surgical procedures were performed under endonasal endoscope, including Gross total resection in 10 patients. The tumor of a 12-year-old patient was not resected completely due to huge tumor size and limited operation space. One patient was accompanied by two other schwannomas located in the occipital region and the ipsilateral parotid gland region originating from the zygomatic branch of the facial nerve, both of which were removed concurrently. After tumor resection, the dura mater of middle cranial fossa was directly exposed in the nasal sinus in 2 cases, including 1 case accompanied by cerebrospinal fluid leakage which was reconstructed by a free mucosal flap obtained from the middle turbinate, the other case was packed by the autologous fat to protect the dura mater. The operation time was (M(IQR)) 180 (160) minutes (range: 120 to 485 minutes). No complications and deaths were observed. No recurrence was observed in the 10 patients with total tumor resection during a 58 (68) months' (range: 10 to 90 months) follow-up. No obvious change was observed in the facial appearance of all patients during the follow-up. Conclusion: Type D trigeminal schwannoma involving pterygopalatine fossa and infratemporal fossa can be removed safely through purely endoscopic endonasal approach by selecting the appropriate approach according to the size and involvement of the tumor.

Abstract
Mining activities have led to Cu and Cd contaminated of surrounding agricultural soil. To decrease the Cu and Cd accumulation in crops, the Ricinus communis L. (castor) has been used for phytoremediation. A pot experiment was served to investigate the effect of phosphate fertilizer (Ca(H2PO4)2) on the growth and Cu/Cd uptake of castor in contaminated soil. The results showed that the application of P fertilizer improved the leaf cell morphology, decreased the malonaldehyde (MDA) content of castor leaves, and increased the plant biomass (28.2-34.2%). Besides, phosphate fertilizer still facilitated accumulation Cu and Cd by castor. The addition of phosphate fertilizer increased the contents of Cu in the root of castor, improved the bioconcentration factor (BCF) of Cu, and observably enhanced the accumulation of Cu (up to 201 μg/plant) in castor. Applying phosphorus increased the percentage of residual Cd, diminished the percentage of acid extractable Cd in soil, and the accumulation of Cd in castor was not significantly increased. These results suggest that phosphorus alleviated the stress of heavy metals on castor leaves and enhanced the accumulation of Cu and Cd in castor by promoting the growth of castor.

Abstract
Very little attention has been paid to the mineralization of soil organic matter (SOM) during the remediation of soil heavy metal pollution. This study observed SOM mineralization during the remediation of soil heavy metal pollution by treating polluted soil with montmorillonite, birnessite, goethite or ferrihydrite. All examined minerals significantly decreased the availability of both Cu and Cd in soil, the decrease by birnessite was the most significant. Birnessite significantly increased the percentage of reducible fraction of heavy metals. The availability of both Cu and Cd was significantly negatively correlated with the percentage of residual fraction of heavy metals. The mineralization of SOM was facilitated by montmorillonite and birnessite but was decreased by goethite and ferrihydrite. The information indicated that iron oxyhydroxides were promising additives for simultaneously stabilizing both heavy metal and organic carbon in soil. During the remediation of soil heavy metal pollution, the examined minerals regulated SOM mineralization by modulating the abundance and diversity of soil bacterial community, the activity of β-glucosidase, the content and structural complexity of dissolved organic matter (DOM), the content of soil available phosphorous, and soil pH.

Abstract
Organic acids usually compete the immobilization of As by iron (hydro)oxides, but their oxidizing effects are ignored. Therefore, the gallic acid (GA) with strong redox activity was chosen to investigate the influence of arsenite [As(III)] oxidation on As immobilization by ferrihydrite. Our results found that the As amount adsorbed on ferrihydrite decreased with the pH rising from 5 to 9 in the presence of GA, and the adsorption amount (28.8 g kg-1) at pH 9 was 45.1% lower than that in the absence of GA. Meanwhile, the As adsorption amounts in treatments of GA addition before As (Fh-GA-As(III)) were significantly lower than that in their corresponding simultaneous addition (Fh-As(III)/GA). The proportions of As(V)/Astotal on ferrihydrite and in equilibrium suspension were increased as the pH increased in the presence of GA, and the highest oxidation efficiency of As(III) by GA at pH 9 was 90.3%, which was mainly due to the contribution of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2, 52.6%) and semiquinone radicals (SQ-, 27.1%). In general, the oxidation and competition adsorption of As by GA inhibited the As immobilization by ferrihydrite, and the oxidation of As(III) by GA was strongly dependent on pH, while H2O2 and SQ- were demonstrated as the main oxidant at pH 9.

Abstract
The simultaneous stabilization of heavy metals and organic matter in polluted soil has received little research attention. In this study, we studied the immobilization of Cu and Cd and the mineralization of organic matter in the acidic soil amended with biochar produced from rice, wheat, corn, and rape straws through incubation experiments. Compared with that in the control treatment, the availability of Cu and Cd in the biochar amended soils decreased by 17-31% and 3-17%, respectively. The cumulative amount of CO2 released from each treatment in 60 days of incubation followed the order: control treatment (399 mg CO2-C kg-1) > rape straw biochar treatment (388 mg CO2-C kg-1) > rice straw biochar treatment (374 mg CO2-C kg-1) > corn straw biochar treatment (355 mg CO2-C kg-1) > wheat straw biochar treatment (288 mg CO2-C kg-1). The information implied that biochar produced from the straw of common crops can simultaneously stabilize both heavy metals and organic matter in the acidic soil. The transformation of Cu and Cd from acid soluble fraction to residual fraction was the potential mechanism of biochar in facilitating soil heavy metal immobilization. The significant decrease in soil β-glucosidase activity, which controlled the degradation of soil organic matter, was an important potential pathway of biochar in decreasing soil organic matter mineralization. A significant decrease in the content and a substantial increase in the structural complexity of soil dissolved organic matter could further the decrease of wheat straw biochar in soil organic matter mineralization. Thus, biochar produced from the straw of common crops is a promising amendment for simultaneously stabilizing both heavy metals and organic matter in the acidic soil.

Abstract
BackgroundEosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is characterized by eosinophilic inflammation of small with or without medium arteries. EGPA is a rare disease with varying prevalence and incidence rates globally. To date, limited information is available on the prevalence, incidence and burden of disease in the United Kingdom (UK).ObjectivesThe objectives were to estimate the prevalence and incidence of EGPA, and to describe the healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) among patients with EGPA in the UK.MethodsThis retrospective database study used the UK-based Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD)-AURUM database linked to the Hospital Episode Statistics (HES). Prevalence was estimated from 2005 to 2019, and incidence was estimated from 2006 to 2019. HCRU was assessed in the 12-months following the first recorded diagnosis of EGPA (index date), and included hospitalizations, emergency room visits, procedures, outpatient specialist visits, primary care visits, and oral corticosteroid use.Results764 people were identified with EGPA in the UK. The prevalence of EGPA, reported in the database, increased from 22.7 to 45.6 per 1,000,000 persons from 2005 to 2019 (Figure 1), whereas the incidence of EGPA from 2006 to 2019 ranged from 2.28 to 4.00 per 1,000,000 person-years. 377 patients with EGPA were successfully linked to the CPRD-HES database. Patient characteristics were as follows: mean age (SD) was 57 years (14.2); 49% were male; 81% had asthma; and 11% had peripheral neuropathy prior to the index date. For patients with EGPA, 19% had an EGPA-related hospitalization and 50% had any-cause hospitalization within 1 year of the index date (Table 1). The mean length of stay was, 18 days and 16 days for EGPA-related and any-cause hospitalizations, respectively. 52% of patients with EGPA had undergone a medical procedure, 89% of patients with EGPA had an outpatient visit to a specialist. Almost all patients with EGPA visited a general practitioner within 1 year of their EGPA diagnosis (97%) and averaged 16.0 visits in 1 year. Abstract
Heavy metal immobilization using biochar (BC) is different from the usual soil incubation due to the low molecular weight organic acids (LMWOAs) in the rhizosphere and is an issue worth evaluating. Therefore, the impacts of rice husk BC (5%), tartaric acid, and oxalic acid, coupled with combinations of BC and tartaric acid/oxalic acid on the transformation of cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn) among their geochemical forms, including their bioavailability in a metal-contaminated soil, were investigated in an incubation experiment. The application of BC, low concentration of tartaric acid (2 mmol kg-1 soil) (TA2), and the combined BC plus a low level of tartaric acid (BC-TA2) markedly reduced the acid-soluble and available (CaCl2-extractable) Cd, Pb, and Zn compared to control (CK) in which BC-TA2 was found to be the most effective treatment. The trends were reversed in the case of the high concentrations of tartaric acid (>5-20 mmol kg-1 soil), all levels of oxalic acid (2-20 mmol kg-1 soil), and the combined BC plus high levels of tartaric acid/oxalic acid treatments. The BC-TA2 transformed the highest amounts of acid-soluble and reducible Cd, Pb, and Zn to the oxidizable and residual fractions with incubation time. The results suggested that the low concentration of tartaric acid enhanced Cd, Pb, and Zn immobilization, while the higher level of tartaric acid and all concentrations of oxalic acid increased their mobilization. In conclusion, BC-TA2 could immobilize the most heavy metals and serve as an amendment for metals' immobilization/redistribution in contaminated soils.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the clinical features of multiple endocrine adenoma type 1 (MEN-1) associated pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (pNENs) as well as sporadic pNENs. Methods: The clinical data of 28 sporadic pNENs patients and 10 MEN-1-related pNENs patients admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2010 to June 2021 were collected. Meanwhile, by searching PubMed database and reviewing the clinical data of 20 foreign patients with MEN-1-related pNENs which were reported at the same time.Compare and analyze the similarities and differences between MEN1-associated pNENs and sporadic pNENs in clinical features, such as family history, blood tests, pathological diagnostic indicators, tumor grade, stage and metastasis, treatment and prognosis and so on. Results: A total of 58 pNENs patients were included, and there were 30 MEN1-related pNENs patients and 28 sporadic pNENs patients. Eighteen patients (60%) had a family history of MEN1-related pNENs, and the mean age of onset was (35.3±13.0)years. There were no patients (0) with family history of sporadic pNENs, and the mean age of onset was(55.3±13.4)years. In contrast, the differences in family history, age of onset and NSE were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Among the pathological diagnostic indicators, there were 19 patients (63.3%) with Grade G2 of MEN1-related pNENs, and 25 patients (83.3%) with somatostatin receptor 2(SSTR2) negative. In sporadic pNENs, there were 16 patients (57.1%) with Grade G2 and 9 patients (32.1%) with SSTR2 negative. The differences in pathological grade, immunohistochemistry (Chromogranin A, CD56, and somatostatin receptor 2, SSTR2) between the two groups were statistically significant(all P<0.05). In terms of tumor staging and metastasis, 21 patients with MEN-1-related pNENs had metastasis (70%) and 20 patients with stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ AJCC (71%) in all. Eight patients with sporadic pNENs had metastasis (26.7%) and 8 patients were with stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ AJCC (28.6%). By contrast, the differences in total metastasis rate, AJCC stage and distant metastasis between the two groups were statistically significant(all P<0.05). In terms of treatment and prognosis, there was no statistical significance in the differences between surgical treatment and prognosis (P>0.05), and the difference was also not statistically significant in survival rate between them (P>0.05). Conclusions: There are no significant differences between MEN1-related pNENs and sporadic pNENs in terms of treatment, prognosis, and survival rate, but there are significant differences in clinical features, pathological features and the staging and grading of tumors. The rate of tumor grade, stage and metastasis of sporadic pNENs is higher.

Abstract
The mineralization of soil organic matter (SOM) is closely related to the emission of greenhouse gas into atmosphere and the stability of organic carbon in soil. The influence of minerals on SOM mineralization in the specific soil received very few attentions. The influence characteristics and potential mechanisms of oxides on the mineralization of SOM in the paddy soil were observed in this study by incubating soil with the addition (dosage: 10 g kg-1) of prepared gibbsite, goethite, ferrihydrite or birnessite for 60 days. A sequence control treatment (753 mg CO2-C kg-1) > goethite treatment (656 mg CO2-C kg-1) ≈ gibbsite treatment (649 mg CO2-C kg-1) > birnessite treatment (529 mg CO2-C kg-1) > ferrihydrite treatment (441 mg CO2-C kg -1) was found in the cumulative amount of released CO2 in 60 days of incubation. Oxides especially ferrihydrite significantly decreased the content of dissolved organic matter (DOM) but tended to increase the content of microbial biomass carbon (MBC). The molecular structure of DOM in the paddy soil was simplified by gibbsite, ferrihydrite and birnessite after the incubation. Oxides especially birnessite and ferrihydrite reduced soil pH and the content of soil available N but increased soil redox potential (Eh). All examined oxides especially Fe oxides enhanced soil bacterial abundance but only birnessite significantly affected bacterial composition at phyla level. The stimulation on the immobilization and/or microbial assimilation of labile organic carbon, the modulation on soil basic properties (available N, pH, Eh), and the decrease of the relative abundance of some decomposing bacteria phyla such as Actinobacteria were the potential pathways of oxides in decreasing SOM mineralization.

Abstract
Phosphorus (P) can affect the bioavailability and mobility of arsenic (As) in paddy soil-plant system, but it is not clear how different forms of phosphorus fertilizers affect P/As molar ratio in soil and how the ratio in turn affects the competitive uptake of P and As in two genotypes. Different P fertilizers, i.e., calcium-magnesium phosphate (CMP), superphosphate (SP) and potassium phosphate monobasic (PPM), were used to investigate the difference in competitive uptake between As sensitive (IIY3301) and As tolerant (SY9519) rice genotypes. Our results indicated that the contents of total As in brown rice of PPM and SP treatments (II-PPM and II-SP) were 15.4% and 26.9% lower than that of CMP treatment (II-CMP) for IIY3301 genotype, but their P contents were 27.0% and 17.8% higher than that of II-CMP treatment. However, the As content in brown rice showed no significant difference between PPM and CMP treatments for SY9519 genotype (S-PPM and S-CMP). The net As accumulation in shoots of II-PPM during the tillering stage was significantly lower than that of II-CMP, but the difference of net As accumulation between S-PPM and S-CMP was not significant. The As translocation factor in II-PPM and II-SP were 16.7% and 22.2% lower than that in II-CMP, but the difference of As translocation factor between S-PPM and S-CMP was not significant. In addition, the contents of total As in porewater showed no significant difference between PPM and CMP. Conversely, the P/As molar ratio in porewater of PPM during tillering stage was 10.9% higher than that of CMP. In summary, PPM led to a higher P/As molar ratio in porewater, which promoted the competitive uptake of As and P by IIY3301 genotype; and the competitive uptake of As and P was more likely to occur in As sensitive rice genotype than in As tolerant rice genotype.

Abstract
Contamination of soils by nickel (Ni) has become a serious environmental problem throughout the world, and this substance wields dangerous effects on the ecosystem and food chain. A pot experiment was conducted to examine the effect of rice straw (RS), rice straw biochar (BI), and calcite (CC) at 1% and 2% application rates in a Ni-contaminated soil. The objective was to potentially stabilize Ni and reduce its bioavailability to spinach (Spinacia Oleracea L.). Spinach plants were grown in a Ni-contaminated Ultisol (commonly known as a red clay soil). Plant growth parameter results indicated that a BI 2% application rate significantly increased the root and shoots dry biomass increased by 1.7- and 6.3-fold, respectively, while essential nutrients were enhanced in the spinach plant compared to those in the untreated soil (CK). Moreover, adding amendments significantly decreased CaCl2 extractable Ni by 62.5% 94.1%, and 87.2%, while the toxicity characteristics leaching procedure (TCLP) fell by 26.7%, 47.8%, and 41.7% when using RS, BI, and CC, respectively, at 2% compared to CK. The Ni concentrations in the spinach roots declined by 51.6%, 73.3%, and 68.9%, and in the shoots reduced by 54.1%, 76.7%, and 70.8% for RS, BI, and CC, at a 2% application rate, respectively. Bio-concentration factor (BCF) and translocation factor (TF) dropped significantly by as much as 72.7% and 20%, respectively, for BI 2% application rate. Results of the present study clearly indicated that biochar potential soil amendments for Ni stabilization, thereby reducing its bioavailability in the Ni-contaminated soil. This process enhanced the safety of food to be consumed and mitigated security risks.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the dynamic change and clinical impact of DEK-NUP214 fusion gene in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) receiving allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Methods: Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RQ-PCR) and multicolor flow cytometry (FCM) were used to detect DEK-NUP214 gene expression and leukemia-associated immunophenotype (LAIP) in 15 newly diagnosed patients with positive DEK-NUP214 and receiving allo-HSCT from September 2012 to September 2017 at Peking University People's Hospital. The clinical outcome was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier survival curves. The impact of DEK-NUP214 expression was analyzed by log-rank test. Results: The subjects were followed-up with a median period of 657 (62-2 212) days. The median DEK-NUP214 expression level at diagnosis was 488% (274%-1 692%). Thirteen patients achieved complete remission before allo-HSCT. Thirteen patients had a residual DEK-NUP214 expression of 0.38% (0.029%-738.9%) before allo-HSCT. After allo-HSCT, DEK-NUP214 expression in 9/13 patients remained positive, which dropped by around 500 folds (5.7-5 663.0 folds) within a month post-transplant. Five patients died and 2 patients relapsed. The 3-year cumulative incidence of relapse in patients with positive DEK-NUP214 before transplant was 17.5%±11.3% and the 3-year overall survival was 60.5%±13.8%. After allo-HSCT, DEK-NUP214-negative patients had a better outcome. Conclusion: Quantitative monitor of DEK-NUP214 fusion gene could be a sensitive indicator of MRD status after allo-HSCT.

Abstract
The abundance and phylogenetic diversity of functional genes involved in nitrification were assessed in Rothamsted field plots under contrasting management regimes-permanent bare fallow, grassland, and arable (wheat) cultivation maintained for more than 50 years. Metagenome and metatranscriptome analysis indicated nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) were more abundant than ammonia oxidizing archaea (AOA) and bacteria (AOB) in all soils. The most abundant AOA and AOB in the metagenomes were, respectively, Nitrososphaera and Ca. Nitrososcosmicus (family Nitrososphaeraceae) and Nitrosospira and Nitrosomonas (family Nitrosomonadaceae). The most abundant NOB were Nitrospira including the comammox species Nitrospira inopinata, Ca. N. nitrificans and Ca. N. nitrosa. Anammox bacteria were also detected. Nitrospira and the AOA Nitrososphaeraceae showed most transcriptional activity in arable soil. Similar numbers of sequences were assigned to the amoA genes of AOA and AOB, highest in the arable soil metagenome and metatranscriptome; AOB amoA reads included those from comammox Nitrospira clades A and B, in addition to Nitrosomonadaceae. Nitrification potential assessed in soil from the experimental sites (microcosms amended or not with DCD at concentrations inhibitory to AOB but not AOA), was highest in arable samples and lower in all assays containing DCD, indicating AOB were responsible for oxidizing ammonium fertilizer added to these soils.

Abstract
Background:Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) was associated with a significantly higher risk of opportunistic infections that including Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia(PJP) which is potentially fatal opportunistic infection. However, no prior studies have evaluated the PJP infection in subtypes of IIM.Objectives:To investigate the incidence rate and mortality rate of PJP infection in subgroups of IIM patients according to myopathy specific antibodies.Methods:In the first part, we reviewed 463 consecutive patients with IIM retrospectively to analyze incidence of PJP infection. In the next part, we enrolled 30 consecutive PJP infection patients with any rheumatic disease was to identify the mortality rate and risk factors. Kaplan-Meier curve with log rank test was used to access differences in survival. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify prognostic factors using Cox regression.Results:We found that 12(7.5%) PJP cases occurred in 160 anti-MDA5-ab-positive DM patients, while only two (0.7%) PJP cases were found in 303 anti-MDA5-ab-negtive DM/PM patients(P < 0.05). PJP infection typically happened in the first two months of the treatment for anti-MDA5-ab-positive DM patients who have a significant decrease in the CD4+ T cell counts and Lymphocyte counts (P < 0.05). Only two (16.7%) anti-MDA5-ab-positive DM patients recover from PJP, with lethally higher mortality than those PJP infection with other rheumatic diseases (83.3% vs. 38.9%, P < 0.05). We found no association between the time to anti-PJP treatment and treatment outcomes in anti-MDA5-ab-positive DM; yet we confirmed in PJP infection with other rheumatic diseases that anti-PJP treatment within 6 days crucially increased the survival (P < 0.05).Conclusion:PJP infection has alarming high incidence and mortality in anti-MDA5-ab-positive DM patients. Unlike PJP infection with other rheumatic diseases, timely treatment for PJP doesn’t improve the prognosis of this particular subtype. Abstract
AIMS Echinocandin B (ECB) is a kind of lipopeptide antifungal antibiotic, as well as the key precursor of antifungal drug Anidulafungin. Its efficient bioproduction plays an important role in promoting the industrial production of Anidulafungin. METHODS AND RESULTS In this study, methyl oleate and Tween 80 were firstly used to enhance the ECB fermentation by Aspergillus nidulans, the results showed that the ECB titre was significantly enhanced with the addition of methyl oleate and Tween 80. Among the lipids, methyl oleate was found to play a pivotal role in increasing the ECB titre to 2123 mg l-1 , which was more than five times higher than that of the control. The addition of Tween 80 in the medium resulted in ECB titre increased to 2584 mg l-1 . The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and N-phenyl-1-naphthylamine (NPN) assay indicated that Tween 80 could influence the cell membrane permeability of A. nidulans, and enhance the intracellular and extracellular substance exchange, therefore lead to the increasing of ECB titre. CONCLUSIONS Methyl oleate and Tween 80 are optimal carbon sources and surfactants for efficient ECB biosynthesis respectively. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY Surfactant was used in ECB fermentation for the first time, which provided feasible ideas for optimizing the fermentation process of other fungi.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To detect cerebrospinal fluid levels of amyloid beta- protein 42 (Aβ42) and neurofilament light protein (NFL) and explore their correlation with postoperative neurocognitive dysfunction (PNCD) in elderly patients. OBJECTIVE A total of 90 elderly patients undergoing hip or knee replacement with joint epidural anesthesia in our Hospital between January, 2017 and December, 2018 were recruited in this study. The levels of Aβ42 and NFL in the cerebrospinal fluid were detected using ELISA. Simple cognitive status assessment scale (MMSE) was used to evaluate the cognitive status of the patients 1 day before and 7 days after the surgery. All the patients underwent neurocognitive function tests, and the z-score method was used to determine the occurrence of PNCD. Spearman rank correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation of Aβ42 and NFL levels in the cerebrospinal fluid with MMSE scores. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to analyze the predictive value of cerebrospinal fluid Aβ42 and NFL levels for PNCD. OBJECTIVE PNCD occurred in 38 of the 90 elderly patients, with an incidence of 42.2%. The level of Aβ42 in the cerebrospinal fluid was significantly lower in PNCD group than in the nonPNCD group (1.96 vs 2.54 ng/mL; t=3.29, P < 0.05); the concentration of NFL in the cerebrospinal fluid was significantly higher in PNCD group than in non- PNCD group (4.59 vs 3.16 ng/mL; t=3.72, P < 0.05). Aβ42 level in the cerebrospinal fluid was positively correlated while NFL was negatively correlated with the MMSE score of the patients (r=-0.659, P < 0.05; r=-0.626, P < 0.05). ROC curve analysis showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of cerebrospinal fluid Aβ42 and NFL levels were 0.744 and 0.768, respectively; the AUC of their combination was 0.847 for prediction of PNCD. OBJECTIVE Elderly patients with PNCD have significantly higher levels of Aβ42 and NFL in the cerebrospinal fluid than those without PNCD. Both Aβ42 and NFL levels in the cerebrospinal fluid can help to predict the occurrence of POCD in elderly patients, and their combination has a higher diagnostic value.

Abstract
Objective: Donor cytomegalovirus (CMV) serological negative status may have an adverse effect on the outcome of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), while there is inadequate data for Chinese people. This study is to explore the impact of donor CMV serological status on the outcome of CMV seropositive patients receiving allo-HSCT. Methods: Our study retrospectively analyzed 16 CMV seropositive patients with hematological malignancies receiving allogeneic grafts from CMV seronegative donors (antibody IgG negative) at Peking University People's Hospital from March 2013 to March 2020, which was defined as D-/R+ group. The other 64 CMV seropositive patients receiving grafts from CMV seropositive donors at the same period of time were selected as matched controls through a propensity score with 1∶4 depending on age, disease state and donor-recipient relationship (D+/R+ group). Results: Patients in D-/R+ group developed CMV DNAemia later than patients in the D+/R+ group (+37 days vs. +31 days after allo-HSCT, P=0.011), but the duration of CMV DNAemia in D-/R+ group was longer than that of D+/R+ group (99 days vs. 34 days, P=0.012). The rate of CMV reactivation 4 times or more in D-/R+ group was 4/16, significantly higher than that of D+/R+ group (4.7%, 3/64, P=0.01). The incidences of refractory CMV DNAemia (14/16 vs. 56.3%, P=0.021) and CMV disease (4/16 vs. 4.7%, P=0.01) in D-/R+ group were both higher than those in D+/R+ group. In addition, the application of CMV-CTL as the second-line antiviral treatment in D-/R+ group was more than that in D+/R+ group. Univariate analysis and multivariate analysis suggested that CMV serological negativity is an independent risk factor for refractory CMV DNAemia and the duration of CMV infection. The cumulative incidence of aGVHDⅡ-Ⅳ, cGVHD, 3-year probability of NRM, overall survival, and the cumulative incidence of relapse were all comparable in two groups. Conclusions: Although there is no significant effect on OS and NRM, the incidence of refractory CMV DNAemia, the frequency of virus reactivation, and the development of CMV disease in D-/R+ group are higher than those in controls. Therefore, CMV seropositive donors are preferred for CMV seropositive patients.

Abstract
The mineralization of soil organic matter is closely related to climate change. Labile organic matter and microbial community are vital intrinsic factors in controlling the mineralization of soil organic matter. Regulation of soil aggregate size on dissolved organic matter (DOM), the cellobiose hydrolyzing microbial community, and their roles in organic matter mineralization remains unclear. The mineralization of organic matter in large macroaggregates (LMA, >2 mm), small macroaggregates (SMA, 0.25-2 mm), and microaggregates (MI, <0.25 mm) from an Ultisol treated with long-term non-fertilizers (Ck), chemical fertilizers (NPK) and animal manure (AM) was observed in this study. The concentration and structure of DOM, activity of β-glucosidase, and the abundance, diversity, and community composition of GH1 (glycoside hydrolase family 1) microbial β-glucosidase encoding genes were investigated. The cumulative CO2-C emissions occurred in the order LMA < SMA < MI in each fertilization treatment and followed the sequence Ck < NPK < AM in each size of aggregate. The concentration of DOM in the soil aggregates increased as the aggregate size decreased, while the structural complexity of DOM followed the opposite trend. The activity of β-glucosidase in the smaller aggregates was higher than that in the larger aggregates, and the abundance and diversity of the GH1 microbial β-glucosidase genes generally echoed the same trend. The dominant microbial classes harboring GH1 β-glucosidase genes in the soil aggregates were Actinobacteria, Alphaproteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, Flavobacteria, Eurotiomycetes, and Sordariomycetes. The relative abundance of Actinobacteria, Sordariomycetes, and Eurotiomycetes revealed significant differences among the aggregates. Redundancy analysis confirmed that microbial GH1 β-glucosidase community in the soil aggregates was primarily regulated by DOM concentration and pH. Structural equation modelling revealed that soil aggregates mainly regulated the β-glucosidase activity and DOM concentration and then the abundance and diversity of the GH1 microbial β-glucosidase genes in controlling organic matter mineralization.

Abstract
Phosphorus (P) application rate can affect the As uptake by rice, but its mechanism lacks systematic studies. In this study, P fertilizers with different dosages (0, 75, 150, and 300 mg P2O5 kg-1 soil) were used to investigate the effects of P on As release in soil porewater, As sequestration on Fe plaque and the change of abundance and communities of aioA and arsC genes in rhizosphere, and then explore its effect on As uptake by rice. Our results indicated that As content in brown rice under P0 and P75 treatments was 14.3-28.6% lower than that under P150 treatment. The total accumulation of As in brown rice under P0 treatment (1.51 μg plant-1) was significantly lower than that under P150 treatment (2.17 μg plant-1). Compared to P150 treatment, P0 treatment decreased the total As content in porewater but increased the proportion of As(V) to total As in porewater. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) in rice roots and the Fe and As contents in Fe plaque were significantly higher under P0 treatment than under P150 treatment. Most of As (80.3-82.9%) sequestered by Fe plaque was in the form of arsenate (As(V)), and the associated As(V) on Fe plaque was 11.0% higher under P0 treatment than under P150 treatment. In addition, the abundance of aioA gene was 73.5% higher under P0 treatment than under P150 treatment, and the dominant aioA at genus level was Rhizobium and Rhodoferax. In general, P0 treatment led to higher root oxidation activity, which improved the formation of Fe plaque; and P0 treatment also improved the abundance of aioA gene in rhizosphere, thus increased the oxidation of As; so, P0 treatment indirectly enhanced As sequestration on Fe plaque, and that in turn reduced As accumulation in brown rice.

Abstract
Objective: To observe the clinical effect of tonsillectomy on IgA nephropathy (IgAN) after renal transplantation. Methods: From March 2011 to July 2018, 201 kidney transplantation recipients who were diagnosed of IgAN by transplant renal biopsy in the Department of Organ Transplantation of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University were retrospectively reviewed, of which 18 patients underwent tonsillectomy after renal biopsy. The clinical data of the 18 patients were collected, patient and kidney survival time and function of the transplanted kidney were analyzed. Results: Of the 18 recipients, 13 were male and 5 were female, with an average age of (36.0±10.9) years. All 18 patients survived during follow-up. Two patients returned to dialysis treatment 10 months and 14 months after tonsillectomy, respectively. The creatinine was 94 (78, 133) μmol/L, 95 (74, 139) μmol/L, 106 (87, 158) μmol/L and 95(81, 147) μmol/L before tonsillectomy, 3 months, 1 year and 2 years after tonsillectomy, respectively (P=0.206). Urinary protein quantification was 0.31 (0.16, 1.38) g/24 h, 0.34 (0.10, 1.42) g/24 h, 0.33 (0.11, 0.56) g/24 h and 0.25 (0.10, 0.50) g/24 h at the same time points, respectively (P=0.104). The two patients who returned to dialysis were diagnosed of IgAN by transplant renal biopsy because of elevated creatinine, proteinuria and hematuria, 9 years and 4 years after kidney transplant respectively. Renal biopsy suggested that glomerular and segmental sclerosis were 7/24, 5/24 and 1/6, 2/6, respectively. Additionally, interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy (IF/TA) were both occupied 30% in the biopsies, and tonsillectomy was performed 461 days and 1 077 days after diagnosis of IgAN, respectively. Conclusions: Tonsillectomy can maintain the stability of renal function and prevent the aggravation of proteinuria in IgAN patients after renal transplantation. However, if pathology suggests obvious glomerulosclerosis or IF/TA, tonsillectomy may not be effective.

Abstract
Biochars are widely used in the remediation of soil heavy metals, but there has been no clear understanding to the effects of novel co-pyrolysis biochars derived from biomass and orthophosphate on soil heavy metals. In this study, co-pyrolysis biochars derived from rape straw and orthophosphate (Ca (H2PO4)2·H2O/KH2PO4) were prepared and used to explore their effects on the speciations and ecological risks of Pb, Cd, and Cu in contaminated agricultural soil. The results showed that the addition of these co-pyrolysis biochars significantly decreased TCLP extracted concentrations (decreased by 5.9-81.7%) and ecological risks of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, and Cu) by transforming the metals from available speciation to stable speciation in soils. Co-pyrolysis biochar derived from rape straw and KH2PO4 showed the highest immobilization capacities, and the immobilization capacities of biochars for three metals were in the order of Pb > Cu > Cd. Co-pyrolysis biochars could precipitate and complex with heavy metals directly by the phosphate and -OH on their surface, and also could promote immobilization of heavy metals indirectly by increasing soil pH value and available P content. During incubation, the content of carboxyl groups on biochars increased significantly, which was beneficial to the further complexation of heavy metals. In summary, the application of co-pyrolysis biochar derived from rape straw and orthophosphate (especially for KH2PO4) could effectively reduce ecological risks of Pb, Cd, and Cu in contaminated soil.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effects and the mechanism of FoxO6 on the proliferation and invasion of colorectal cancer cells. Methods: FoxO6 siRNA was transfected into colorectal cancer cell HCT116 and SW480. The overexpression vector pcDNA.3.1-c-Myc was constructed and co-transfected into HCT116 and SW480 cells with FoxO6 siRNA. Real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and western blot were used to detect the mRNA and protein expressions of FoxO6, c-Myc, and p21 in HCT116 and SW480 cells. Bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) was used to detect cell proliferation and Transwell assay was performed to detect the invasion ability of these cells. SW480 cells transfected with FoxO6 shRNA lentivirus (LV-FoxO6) and were injected into the right armpit of BAL b/c nude mice to construct a tumor-bearing mode and the tumor volumes were measured on the days of 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, and 25 after injection. Results: The FoxO6 mRNA were 0.91±0.04, 1.72±0.07, and 2.03±0.06, and protein expression were 0.70±0.04, 1.35±0.08, and 1.56±0.07 in normal colon cell FHC, colorectal cancer cells HT116 and SW480, respectively. The protein and mRNA levels of FoxO6 in HCT116 and SW480 were significantly higher than those in FHC (both P<0.05). Knockdown of FoxO6 in HCT116 and SW480 cells decreased the mRNA and protein expressions of FoxO6 (both P<0.05), the cell proliferation ability (absorbances were 0.26±0.07 and 0.27±0.06, both P<0.05), cell invasion ability (the invaded cell numbers were 42.3±3.3 and 45.7±4.1, both P<0.05), and the mRNA and protein expressions of c-Myc, while increased the mRNA and protein expressions of p21 (both P<0.01). Overexpression of Myc in FoxO6 silenced HCT116 and SW480 cells decreased the expression of p21, while increased the cell proliferation ability (absorbances were 0.54±0.09 and 0.58±0.07, both P<0.01) and invasion ability (the invaded cell numbers were 79.2±5.9 and 80.5±6.4, both P<0.01). On the 25th day after cell inoculation in nude mice, the tumor volume of LV-FoxO6 group was (190.6±36.2) mm(3), significantly lower than (437.8.6±69.2) mm(3) of LV-NC group (P<0.05). Conclusion: FoxO6 promotes the proliferation and invasion of colorectal cancer cells through facilitating c-Myc mediated p21 expression inhibition.

Abstract
Cell specific and cytokine targeted therapeutics have underperformed in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have emerged as a novel therapy to address the dysregulation in autoimmune diseases but also have limitations. Human gingiva derived MSCs (GMSCs) are superior in regulating immune responses. Here, we demonstrate that the adoptive transfer of GMSCs homes to and maintains in the kidney and has a robust therapeutic effect in a spontaneous lupus nephritis model. Specifically, GMSCs limits the development of autoantibodies as well as proteinuria, decreases the frequency of plasma cells and lupus nephritis histopathological scores by directly suppressing B cells activation, proliferation and differentiation. The blockage of CD39-CD73 pathway dramatically abrogates the suppressive capacities of GMSCs in vitro and in vivo and highlights the significance of this signaling pathway in SLE. Collectively, manipulation of GMSCs provides a promising strategy for the treatment of patients with SLE and other autoimmune diseases.

Abstract
Research links the built environment to health outcomes, but little is known about how this affects quality of life (QOL) of African American breast cancer patients, especially those residing in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Using latent trajectory models, we examined whether the built environment using Google Street View was associated with changes in QOL over a 2-year follow-up in 228 newly diagnosed African American breast cancer patients. We measured QOL using the RAND 36-Item Health Survey subscales. After adjusting for covariates, improvement in emotional well-being and pain over time was greater for women living on streets with low-quality (vs. high-quality) sidewalks.
