Abstract
Objective We report a case of Carmi Syndrome in a neonate. Aim To share our lessons in diagnosis of the case of Carmi Syndrome. Case Report Carmi Syndrome is an extremely rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder characterized the coexistence of pyloric atresia and junctional epidermolysis bullosa, and with aplasia cutis congenita in approximately 28% patients. In this case, a full-term male neonate was born to a G4P2+1L1 multipara through cesarean section delivery in hospital in a non-consanguineous marriage with 4000mL of II°meconium-stained amniotic fluid. He was found extensive skin loss over lower legs and other parts, with scattered blisters and bilateral microtia. Plain abdominal X-ray revealed a large gastric air bubble with no gas distally. The mother had an intrauterine fetal loss previously for reasons unknown. The dermatologist diagnosed the newborn with Bart Syndrome, while the pediatric surgeon diagnosed congenital pyloric atresia(CPA). The parents refused further treatment and the neonate passed away about 30 hours after birth. Outcome The neonate passed away about 30 hours after birth. Conclusion Lessons from this case:①.Rule out Carmi Syndrome in patients with PA, and differentiate Bart syndrome and Carmi Syndrome in patients with abnormal skin manifestations. ②. For rare and/or severe diseases, multidisciplinary teams(MDTs) should be establish. ③. Genetic counseling and prenatal diagnosis are necessary prior to subsequent childbearings. ④.Termination of pregnancy might be contemplated if certain indicators are revealed.

Study of High-Transverse-Momentum Higgs Boson Production in Association with a Vector Boson in the qqbb Final State with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 132:131802. Abstract
This Letter presents the first study of Higgs boson production in association with a vector boson (V=W or Z) in the fully hadronic qqbb final state using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb^{-1}. The vector bosons and Higgs bosons are each reconstructed as large-radius jets and tagged using jet substructure techniques. Dedicated tagging algorithms exploiting b-tagging properties are used to identify jets consistent with Higgs bosons decaying into bb[over ¯]. Dominant backgrounds from multijet production are determined directly from the data, and a likelihood fit to the jet mass distribution of Higgs boson candidates is used to extract the number of signal events. The VH production cross section is measured inclusively and differentially in several ranges of Higgs boson transverse momentum: 250-450, 450-650, and greater than 650 GeV. The inclusive signal yield relative to the standard model expectation is observed to be μ=1.4_{-0.9}^{+1.0} and the corresponding cross section is 3.1±1.3(stat)_{-1.4}^{+1.8}(syst) pb.

Measurement of the Centrality Dependence of the Dijet Yield in p+Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 132:102301. Abstract
ATLAS measured the centrality dependence of the dijet yield using 165 nb^{-1} of p+Pb data collected at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV in 2016. The event centrality, which reflects the p+Pb impact parameter, is characterized by the total transverse energy registered in the Pb-going side of the forward calorimeter. The central-to-peripheral ratio of the scaled dijet yields, R_{CP}, is evaluated, and the results are presented as a function of variables that reflect the kinematics of the initial hard parton scattering process. The R_{CP} shows a scaling with the Bjorken x of the parton originating from the proton, x_{p}, while no such trend is observed as a function of x_{Pb}. This analysis provides unique input to understanding the role of small proton spatial configurations in p+Pb collisions by covering parton momentum fractions from the valence region down to x_{p}∼10^{-3} and x_{Pb}∼4×10^{-4}.

Abstract
Searches for new resonances are performed using an unsupervised anomaly-detection technique. Events with at least one electron or muon are selected from 140 fb^{-1} of pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded by ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider. The approach involves training an autoencoder on data, and subsequently defining anomalous regions based on the reconstruction loss of the decoder. Studies focus on nine invariant mass spectra that contain pairs of objects consisting of one light jet or b jet and either one lepton (e,μ), photon, or second light jet or b jet in the anomalous regions. No significant deviations from the background hypotheses are observed. Limits on contributions from generic Gaussian signals with various widths of the resonance mass are obtained for nine invariant masses in the anomalous regions.

Abstract
The aim was to describe the characteristic dermatoscopic features of hyperpigmented macules on the faces of young children. Sixteen patients with typical clinical presentations of hyperpigmented macules on the faces of young children were included in this study. The lesions were evaluated using a dermatoscope. The clinical and dermatoscopic features were analyzed and summarized. There were 12 boys and 4 girls enrolled in the study. The hyperpigmented macules had an age of onset ranging from 1 to 18 months (mean, 6.12 months). The hyperpigmentation was distributed on the forehead and/or temple, as follows: forehead (n = 8 [50%]); temple (n = 3 [18.8%]); and both sites (n = 5 [31.2%]). Fifteen patients (93.7%) had pseudoreticular pigmentation, 1 patient (6.3%) had reticular pigment with pseudoreticular pigment, and 100% had erythema and linear/branching vessels. Light brown pseudoreticular pigment and linear vessels were shown to be the 2 major dermatoscopic manifestations of hyperpigmented macules on the faces of young children.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of WZγ production and a measurement of its cross section using 140.1±1.2 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The WZγ production cross section, with both the W and Z bosons decaying leptonically, pp→WZγ→ℓ^{'}^{±}νℓ^{+}ℓ^{-}γ (ℓ^{(^{'})}=e, μ), is measured in a fiducial phase-space region defined such that the leptons and the photon have high transverse momentum and the photon is isolated. The cross section is found to be 2.01±0.30(stat)±0.16(syst) fb. The corresponding standard model predicted cross section calculated at next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and at leading order in the electroweak coupling constant is 1.50±0.06 fb. The observed significance of the WZγ signal is 6.3σ, compared with an expected significance of 5.0σ.

Abstract
A measurement of the mass of the Higgs boson combining the H→ZZ^{*}→4ℓ and H→γγ decay channels is presented. The result is based on 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector during LHC run 2 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV combined with the run 1 ATLAS mass measurement, performed at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding a Higgs boson mass of 125.11±0.09(stat)±0.06(syst)=125.11±0.11 GeV. This corresponds to a 0.09% precision achieved on this fundamental parameter of the Standard Model of particle physics.

Abstract
A search for events with a dark photon produced in association with a dark Higgs boson via rare decays of the standard model Z boson is presented, using 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The dark boson decays into a pair of dark photons, and at least two of the three dark photons must each decay into a pair of electrons or muons, resulting in at least two same-flavor opposite-charge lepton pairs in the final state. The data are found to be consistent with the background prediction, and upper limits are set on the dark photon's coupling to the dark Higgs boson times the kinetic mixing between the standard model photon and the dark photon, α_{D}ϵ^{2}, in the dark photon mass range of [5, 40] GeV except for the ϒ mass window [8.8, 11.1] GeV. This search explores new parameter space not previously excluded by other experiments.

Abstract
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide. NCDs affect the health status and the quality of life. In addition, continuous NCDs treatment expenses place a heavy economic burden on families and cause huge economic losses to the society. The prevention and treatment of NCDs and reduction of their economic burden are key public health issues. Considering middle-aged and older adult people as the focus, their basic socio-demographic characteristics and health behavior status of this group, and a pooled cross-sections regression model was then used to analyze the main factors affecting the direct economic burden. The results showed that from 2013 to 2018, the prevalence of NCDs among the middle-aged and older adult people in Shaanxi province as well as the direct economic burden of NCDs increased. The effect factors primarily included sex, age, employment status, income level, type of medical insurance, urban or rural residency, level of the health care-providing institutions, visiting times of 2-week, and length of hospital stay. Several measures can be taken to control the onset of NCDs and reduce their direct economic burden.

New evidence on supplier-induced demand in China's public tertiary hospitals: is the cost of hospitalization higher in the off-season? THE EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF HEALTH ECONOMICS : HEPAC : HEALTH ECONOMICS IN PREVENTION AND CARE 2023:10.1007/s10198-023-01638-y. Abstract
Supplier-induced demand (SID) is a long-standing concern in health economics and health system studies; however, empirical evidence on SID-critical to the development of health policy-is difficult to obtain, especially from China. This study, therefore, aims to add new evidence on SID in China's public tertiary hospitals and facilitates the development of evidence-based health policies in China and other countries with similar healthcare systems. For this study, we used patient-level electronic medical records (EMRs) collected from the information systems of tertiary hospitals in a western province in China. From 11 tertiary hospitals, we collected 274,811 hospitalization records dated between 15 February and 30 November 2019. Total expenditure on hospitalization and length of admission of each patient were the primary metrics for measuring SID. We constructed a character indicator to measure the high-season or off-season status of hospitals, and log-linear estimations were applied to estimate the "off-season effect" on hospitalized expenditures and length of admission. We find that the cost of hospitalization is indeed higher in the off-season in China's public tertiary hospitals; specifically, expenditures for patients admitted in the off-season increased by an average of 5.3-7.9% compared to patients admitted in the peak season, while the length of admission in the hospital increased by an average of 6.8% to 10.2%. We also checked the robustness of our findings by performing subgroup analyses of EMRs in the city-level hospitals and surgical group. We name this phenomenon the "hospital off-season effect" and suggest that the main reason for it is inappropriate financial incentives combined with a Fee-For-Services payment method. We suggest that China should work to reform inappropriate financial incentives in public hospitals to eliminate SID by changing its payment and financing compensation system.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of single top quarks produced together with a photon, which directly probes the electroweak coupling of the top quark. The analysis uses 139 fb^{-1} of 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Requiring a photon with transverse momentum larger than 20 GeV and within the detector acceptance, the fiducial cross section is measured to be 688±23(stat) _{-71}^{+75}(syst) fb, to be compared with the standard model prediction of 515_{-42}^{+36} fb at next-to-leading order in QCD.

Measurement of the Sensitivity of Two-Particle Correlations in pp Collisions to the Presence of Hard Scatterings. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:162301. Abstract
A key open question in the study of multiparticle production in high-energy pp collisions is the relationship between the "ridge"-i.e., the observed azimuthal correlations between particles in the underlying event that extend over all rapidities-and hard or semihard scattering processes. In particular, it is not known whether jets or their soft fragments are correlated with particles in the underlying event. To address this question, two-particle correlations are measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, with an integrated luminosity of 15.8 pb^{-1}, in two different configurations. In the first case, charged particles associated with jets are excluded from the correlation analysis, while in the second case, correlations are measured between particles within jets and charged particles from the underlying event. Second-order flow coefficients, v_{2}, are presented as a function of event multiplicity and transverse momentum. These measurements show that excluding particles associated with jets does not affect the measured correlations. Moreover, particles associated with jets do not exhibit any significant azimuthal correlations with the underlying event, ruling out hard processes contributing to the ridge.

Income loss and subsequent poor psychological well-being among the Chinese population during the early COVID-19 pandemic. Int J Equity Health 2023; 22:219. Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic has had major ramifications for health and the economy at both the individual and collective levels. This study examined exogenous negative changes in household income and their implications on psychological well-being (PWB) among the Chinese population during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS Data were drawn from the early China COVID-19 Survey, a cross-sectional anonymous online survey administered to the general population in China. Self-reported PWB was measured using a 5-point Likert scale with five questions related to the participants' recent psychological state. Hierarchical multiple linear regression was employed to examine whether income loss during the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with poor psychological health. RESULTS This study included 8,428 adults, of which 90% had suffered from a moderate or severe loss of household income due to the early COVID-19 pandemic. Those who had experienced moderate or severe loss of income scored significantly lower on psychological well-being than those who did not experience income loss (19.96 or 18.07 vs. 21.46; P < 0.001); after controlling for confounders, income loss was negatively associated with PWB scores (moderate income loss: B = - 0.603, P < 0.001; severe income loss: B = - 1.261, P < 0.001). An interaction effect existed between the degree of income loss and pre-pandemic income groups. Specifically, participants in the middle-income group who had suffered severe income loss scored the lowest on PWB (B = - 1.529, P < 0.001). There was also a main effect on income loss, such that participants with varying degrees of income loss differed across five dimensions, including anhedonia, sleep problems, irritability or anger, difficulty with concentration, and repeated disturbing dreams related to COVID-19. CONCLUSIONS Income loss during the pandemic has had detrimental consequences on psychological well-being, and the magnitude of the impact of income loss on psychological well-being varied according to previous income levels. Future policy efforts should be directed toward improving the psychological well-being of the economically vulnerable and helping them recover from lost income in the shortest time possible.

Abstract
A search is made for potential ccc[over ¯]c[over ¯] tetraquarks decaying into a pair of charmonium states in the four muon final state using proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^{-1} recorded by the ATLAS experiment at LHC. Two decay channels, J/ψ+J/ψ→4μ and J/ψ+ψ(2S)→4μ, are studied. Backgrounds are estimated based on a hybrid approach involving Monte Carlo simulations and data-driven methods. Statistically significant excesses with respect to backgrounds dominated by the single parton scattering are seen in the di-J/ψ channel consistent with a narrow resonance at 6.9 GeV and a broader structure at lower mass. A statistically significant excess is also seen in the J/ψ+ψ(2S) channel. The fitted masses and decay widths of the structures are reported.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of τ-lepton-pair production in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions Pb+Pb→Pb(γγ→ττ)Pb and constraints on the τ-lepton anomalous magnetic moment a_{τ}. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.44 nb^{-1} of LHC Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment in 2018. Selected events contain one muon from a τ-lepton decay, an electron or charged-particle track(s) from the other τ-lepton decay, little additional central-detector activity, and no forward neutrons. The γγ→ττ process is observed in Pb+Pb collisions with a significance exceeding 5 standard deviations and a signal strength of μ_{ττ}=1.03_{-0.05}^{+0.06} assuming the standard model value for a_{τ}. To measure a_{τ}, a template fit to the muon transverse-momentum distribution from τ-lepton candidates is performed, using a dimuon (γγ→μμ) control sample to constrain systematic uncertainties. The observed 95% confidence-level interval for a_{τ} is -0.057

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Thoracic adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is very rare, and its clinicopathological characteristics, treatment and prognosis have not been fully elucidated. Previous studies did not differentiate between tracheal and lung lesions. MATERIALS/METHODS We identified tracheal ACC (TACC) and lung and bronchus ACC (LACC) patients from our cancer center (from 2005 to 2022) and the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database (from 2000 to 2009). Incidence was calculated and trends were quantified. Significant prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) were reviewed and analyzed by using Cox proportional hazards regression. Then, two nomograms predicting OS of TACC and LACC were constructed based on the SEER database and validated externally by using the separate cohort. RESULTS There was an upward trend from 2000 to 2019 for LACC while a downward trend from 2000 to 2009 was shown for TACC. Totally, 55 TACC and 25 LACC were included in our cohort, 121 TACC and 162 LACC included in the SEER cohort. There were larger tumor sizes, more lymph nodes and distant metastases for LACC patients than TACC patients. The proportion of patients receiving radiotherapy were higher for TACC than LACC. More patients with TACC received surgery and perioperative radiotherapy than those with LACC. Patients with LACC had significantly worse OS than patients with TACC (SEER cohort: 93.7 mons vs. 127.0 mons, p = 0.001, our cohort: 72.2 months vs. 130.8months, p = 0.061). Age, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and radiation and/or surgery were identified as independent prognostic factors for OS of TACC. Laterality, distant metastasis and surgery were identified for LACC. The discrimination of the nomogram revealed good prognostic accuracy and clinical applicability as indicated by C-index values of 0.753 and 0.833 for the training cohort and the external validation cohort for TACC, and 0.739 and 0.786 for LACC. CONCLUSION TACC and LACC are different in incidence, clinical features, prognosis. Compared with LACC, radiotherapy combined with surgery is more important for TACC. Two nomograms were established for TACC and LACC respectively to help physicians make more individualized survival predictions and clinical decisions.

Strong Constraints on Jet Quenching in Centrality-Dependent p+Pb Collisions at 5.02 TeV from ATLAS. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:072301. Abstract
Jet quenching is the process of color-charged partons losing energy via interactions with quark-gluon plasma droplets created in heavy-ion collisions. The collective expansion of such droplets is well described by viscous hydrodynamics. Similar evidence of collectivity is consistently observed in smaller collision systems, including pp and p+Pb collisions. In contrast, while jet quenching is observed in Pb+Pb collisions, no evidence has been found in these small systems to date, raising fundamental questions about the nature of the system created in these collisions. The ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider has measured the yield of charged hadrons correlated with reconstructed jets in 0.36 nb^{-1} of p+Pb and 3.6 pb^{-1} of pp collisions at 5.02 TeV. The yields of charged hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>0.5 GeV near and opposite in azimuth to jets with p_{T}^{jet}>30 or 60 GeV, and the ratios of these yields between p+Pb and pp collisions, I_{pPb}, are reported. The collision centrality of p+Pb events is categorized by the energy deposited by forward neutrons from the struck nucleus. The I_{pPb} values are consistent with unity within a few percent for hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>4 GeV at all centralities. These data provide new, strong constraints that preclude almost any parton energy loss in central p+Pb collisions.

Abstract
A search for a long-lived, heavy neutral lepton (N) in 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider is reported. The N is produced via W→Nμ or W→Ne and decays into two charged leptons and a neutrino, forming a displaced vertex. The N mass is used to discriminate between signal and background. No signal is observed, and limits are set on the squared mixing parameters of the N with the left-handed neutrino states for the N mass range 3 GeV

Abstract
A test of CP invariance in Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion has been performed in the H→γγ channel using 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The optimal observable method is used to probe the CP structure of interactions between the Higgs boson and electroweak gauge bosons, as described by an effective field theory. No sign of CP violation is observed in the data. Constraints are set on the parameters describing the strength of the CP-odd component in the coupling between the Higgs boson and the electroweak gauge bosons in two effective field theory bases: d[over ˜] in the HISZ basis and c_{HW[over ˜]} in the Warsaw basis. The results presented are the most stringent constraints on CP violation in the coupling between Higgs and weak bosons. The 95% C.L. constraint on d[over ˜] is derived for the first time and the 95% C.L. constraint on c_{HW[over ˜]} has been improved by a factor of 5 compared to the previous measurement.

COVID-19 and kidney: role of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the induction of renal damage. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2023; 27:7861-7867. [PMID: 37667963 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_202308_33441] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 09/06/2023]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE SARS-CoV-2 causes acute respiratory disease, interstitial and alveolar pneumonia, and involves numerous organs and systems such as the kidney, heart, digestive tract, blood, and nervous system. We aimed to evaluate the incidence of renal manifestations in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 infection. PATIENTS AND METHODS We performed a monocentric, cross-sectional, observational study, conducted on 114 patients with SARS-CoV-2. Clinical and laboratory parameters [renal function, serum electrolytes, inflammatory state, blood gas analysis, Interleukin 6 (IL-6) and urinalysis] were evaluated. The same values were checked out after two months (T1), however after negativization. RESULTS We enrolled 114 patients (59 males) with a mean age of 63.8 ± 13.9 years. We found hematuria in 48 patients (55.8%), proteinuria in 33 patients (38.4%), leukocyturia in 61 patients (70.9%), acute kidney injury (AKI) in 28 patients (24.6%), AKI in chronic kidney disease (CKD) in 24 patients (21.1%). Moreover, we found a significant increase of inflammatory indexes as C Reactive Protein (CRP), lactic dehydrogenase (LDH), alpha 1 and alpha 2 globulins with a subsequent reduction at T1 (p = 0.016, p < 0.001, p = 0.005, p = 0.007; respectively). Hemoglobin and erythrocyte values significantly decreased (p < 0.001, p = 0.003, respectively), and we found lymphopenia (p < 0.001). Also, we found elevated levels of the D-Dimer (p < 0.001) and a significant increase in the International Normalized Ratio (INR) (p = 0.038). We also showed a significant improvement after negativization in oxygen partial pressure (p = 0.001) and oxygen saturation (p < 0.001) and a significant increase in pH (p = 0.018) and bicarbonate concentration (p = 0.042). Moreover, we found a significant increase in IL-6 (p = 0.004). Also, we reported mild hyponatremia and hypokalemia with subsequent significant recovery (p < 0.001, p < 0.001, respectively) and mild hypochloremia with a recovery to the limits of statistical significance (p = 0.053). At the entrance, we found an increase in serum glucose with a significant reduction during recovery (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of AKI and/or CKD and/or abnormal urinalysis in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 on admission seems to be high and appears as a negative prognostic factor. Urinalysis appears to be very useful in unveiling the potential kidney impairment of COVID-19 patients; therefore, urinalysis could be used to reflect and predict the disease severity. We also recommend a careful evaluation of metabolic alterations, inflammatory states, and electrolytic disorders in COVID-19 patients.

Abstract
Objectives The aim of this study was to understand the impact of multimorbidity on catastrophic health expenditures for people with hypertension. Methods Data were obtained from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2018, 8,342 adults were included in our analysis. Propensity score matching method was used to compare the risk of catastrophic health expenditures between the hypertension patients (treatment group) and those without any chronic disease (control group) in middle-aged and older adults. Patients with hypertension were also divided into two groups: only hypertension and multimorbidity. Results Hypertension increased the likelihood of CHE by 11.3% in older adults. Further analysis showed that hypertension alone does not increase the risk of CHE, and the risk of CHE in hypertension patients with multimorbidity was 12.9% higher than those without chronic disease. Conclusion Our study highlights the importance of healthy management of patients with only hypertension and preventing them from developing multimorbidity.

Abstract
The impact of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is still being revealed, and little is known about the effect of COVID-19-induced outpatient and inpatient losses on hospital operations in many counties. Hence, we aimed to explore whether hospitals adopted profit compensation activities after the 2020 first-wave outbreak of COVID-19 in China. A total of 2,616,589 hospitalization records from 2018, 2019, and 2020 were extracted from 36 tertiary hospitals in a western province in China; we applied a difference-in-differences event study design to estimate the dynamic effect of COVID-19 on hospitalized patients' total expenses before and after the last confirmed case. We found that average total expenses for each patient increased by 8.7% to 16.7% in the first 25 weeks after the city reopened and hospital admissions returned to normal. Our findings emphasize that the increase in total inpatient expenses was mainly covered by claiming expenses from health insurance and was largely driven by an increase in the expenses for laboratory tests and medical consumables. Our study documents that there were profit compensation activities in hospitals after the 2020 first-wave outbreak of COVID-19 in China, which was driven by the loss of hospitalization admissions during this wave outbreak.

Abstract
AIM Frozen, breaded chicken products have been implicated in Salmonella outbreaks, and may be incorrectly perceived as ready-to-eat, leading to mishandling or undercooking by consumers. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of Salmonella and antimicrobial resistant (AMR) E. coli in these products. METHODS AND RESULTS Samples of frozen, raw or partly cooked, coated chicken products were collected between April and July 2021 from retailers in the UK and tested for Salmonella spp., generic Escherichia coli, extended spectrum beta-lactamase-producing, colistin-resistant and carbapenem-resistant E. coli. One isolate of each bacterial type from each sample was selected for minimum inhibitory concentration determination for a range of antimicrobials. Salmonella was detected in 5 of 310 (1.6%) samples, identified as Salmonella Infantis in three samples and S. Java in two. One S. Infantis isolate was multi-drug resistant, while the other Salmonella isolates were each resistant to at least one class of antimicrobials. Generic E. coli were detected in 113 samples (36.4%), with multi-drug resistance being demonstrated in 20.0% of these. E. coli with the ESBL phenotype were detected in 15 (4.8%) of samples and the AmpC phenotype in 2 (0.6%). A colistin resistant E. coli was isolated from one sample; this possessed the mcr-1 gene. No carbapenem-resistant E. coli were detected. The five Salmonella-positive samples from this study, together with 20 Salmonella-positive products from an earlier study in 2020/2021, were cooked according to the manufacturers' instructions. Following cooking, Salmonella was not detected in any samples. CONCLUSIONS This survey demonstrates continued contamination of frozen, coated chicken products with Salmonella, and provides data on the prevalence of AMR in these products.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In this study, we aimed to evaluate the kidney involvement assessed by estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), the associations with specific clinical disease variables and laboratory findings, and the predictive role of eGFR on clinical outcomes of patients admitted with COVID-19 in Internal Medicine ward in the first wave. PATIENTS AND METHODS Clinical data of 162 consecutive patients hospitalized in the University Hospital Policlinico Umberto I in Rome, Italy, between December 2020 to May 2021 were collected and retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS The median eGFR was significantly lower in patients with worse outcomes than in patients with favorable outcomes [56.64 ml/min/1.73 m2 (IQR 32.27-89.73) vs. 83.39 ml/min/1.73 m2 (IQR 69.59-97.08), p<0.001]. Patients with eGFR < 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 (n=38) were significantly older compared to patients with normal eGFR [82 years (IQR 74-90) vs. 61 years (IQR 53-74), p<0.001] and they had fever less frequently [39.5% vs. 64.2%, p<0.01]. Kaplan-Meier curves demonstrated that overall survival was significantly shorter in patients with eGFR < 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 (p<0.001). In multivariate analysis, only eGFR < 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 [HR=2.915 (95% CI=1.110-7.659), p<0.05] and platelet to lymphocyte ratio [HR=1.004 (95% CI=1.002-1.007), p<0.01] showed a significant predictive value for death or transfer to intensive care unit (ICU). CONCLUSIONS Kidney involvement on admission was an independent predictor for death or transfer to ICU among hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The presence of chronic kidney disease could be regarded as a relevant factor in risk stratification for COVID-19.

Abstract
Purpose The objective of this study was to examine patterns of mammography screening prior to breast cancer diagnosis in all women with breast cancer in a Kansas community. Methods The study population included 508 women in the Kansas Cancer Registry database diagnosed with breast cancer between 2013-2014 who were patients and residents of a defined area at the time of diagnosis. Screening history within 4 years of diagnosis was obtained. Poisson regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between sociodemographic factors and biennial screening. Results About 41.5% of women received at least biennial screening, while 22.1% received less than biennial screening and 36.4% had no screening. About 40% of women aged 50-64, 50.4% aged 65-74, and 48.3% aged 75-84 received biennial screening (p=0.002). Women diagnosed with in-situ and localized breast cancers had significantly higher proportions of biennial screening (46.7% and 48.6%, respectively; p < 0.001). Average tumor size was 15.7, 17.4, and 24.4 mm, for women who received at least biennial, some, and no screening, respectively (p < 0.001). Results from Poisson regression analysis showed the adjusted relative risk associated with rural/mixed residence at diagnosis and Medicaid beneficiary was 0.45 and 0.40 (p=0.003 and p=0.032) respectively. Conclusions Biennial mammography screening was associated with lower breast cancer stage and smaller tumor size, illustrating the importance of screening as early detection. Different outreach strategies may be necessary to reach women within varied age groups or geographical regions to help increase the number of women who remain up-to-date with mammography screening.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Salad and other fresh produce were collected in England from retail and catering businesses during 2020 to 2021 and were tested for Salmonella, Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), Listeria, Bacillus cereus, and E. coli. Of the 604 samples collected, 57% were from retail settings and 43% were from catering settings; 61% were either salad leaves or salad leaves mixed with other products. Equal numbers of samples were prepacked or loose, and 50% were refrigerated at the time of sampling. Combining results for all microbiological parameters, 84% were interpreted as satisfactory, 12% were interpreted as borderline, and 4% were interpreted as unsatisfactory. One sample (prepacked leaves, cucumber, and tomato from a caterer) was categorized as unacceptable and potentially injurious because of detection of STEC O76; no STEC from human infections in the United Kingdom matched this isolate. No Salmonella enterica was detected, but Listeria monocytogenes was recovered from 11 samples: 1 at 20 CFU/g and the remainder at <20 CFU/g. B. cereus was detected at borderline levels (103 to ≤105 CFU/g) in 9% of samples and at an unsatisfactory level (>105 CFU/g) in one sample. E. coli was detected in 3% of samples at borderline levels (20 to ≤102 CFU/g) and in 4% at unsatisfactory levels (>102 CFU/g). There was a significant association between detection of L. monocytogenes and borderline or unsatisfactory levels of E. coli. There were no specific risk profiles associated with products with the higher levels of B. cereus, STEC, or Listeria, but elevated levels of E. coli were predominantly confined to loose products from the United Kingdom collected from caterers in summer or autumn 2021 and may have resulted from relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions. Among the L. monocytogenes isolates, only one matched those from human cases and was recovered from a prepacked mixed salad from a catering business in 2021. This isolate was the same strain as that responsible for a multicountry outbreak (2015 to 2018) associated with Hungarian-produced frozen sweet corn; no link to the outbreak food chain was established. Abstract
In recent years, the advanced knowledge of clinical, biological and molecular features of prostate cancer have led to the introduction of new drugs and have allowed the relocation of old drugs in different settings. In this way, the new concepts of systemic disease arise: high risk or high volume vs. low risk and low volume disease castration sensitive prostate cancer (CSPC), diversifying the use of previously approved drugs (CRPC) and opening new scenarios for sequence therapy. The aim of this review is to integrate new developments into the medical management of systemic prostate cancer.

Did the Integrated Urban and Rural Resident Basic Medical Insurance Improve Benefit Equity in China? VALUE IN HEALTH : THE JOURNAL OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR PHARMACOECONOMICS AND OUTCOMES RESEARCH 2022; 25:1548-1558. Abstract
OBJECTIVES The reform of merging 2 major health insurance schemes into Urban and Rural Resident Basic Medical Insurance (URRBMI) is recognized as a vital step to safeguard equal healthcare and benefit to each enrollee in China. Against this backdrop, this article aims to evaluate the impact of URRBMI integration on benefit and its contribution to benefit equity. METHODS The data of this study were derived from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study 2011 and 2015. A total of 11 383 individuals were included in the final sample. Coarsened exact matching with difference-in-difference approach was firstly adopted to investigate the treatment effects of URRBMI on benefits. Next, the decomposition of concentration index (CI) was conducted to explore the contribution of URRBMI to benefit equity. RESULTS The coarsened exact matching with difference-in-difference results revealed that the consolidation of URRBMI has significantly improved outpatient benefit. The decomposition results showed that the contribution rates of URRBMI scheme to outpatient benefit rate (CI -0.0114), benefit probability (CI 0.0673), compensation fee (CI 0.0076), and reimbursement ratio (CI 0.0483) were 11.26%, -3.38%, -7.67%, and -0.81%, suggesting that this reform makes contribution to the propoor inequity in the outpatient benefit rate and relieves the prorich inequity in outpatient benefit probability and the degree of benefits. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study provide novel evidence of enhanced benefits and benefit equity for outpatient care with the integration of URRBMI. Further efforts should be made to the expansion of URRBMI coverage and the elimination of income disparities that affecting benefit equity.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of WWW production and a measurement of its cross section using 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with two same-sign leptons (electrons or muons) and at least two jets, as well as events with three charged leptons, are selected. A multivariate technique is then used to discriminate between signal and background events. Events from WWW production are observed with a significance of 8.0 standard deviations, where the expectation is 5.4 standard deviations. The inclusive WWW production cross section is measured to be 820±100 (stat)±80 (syst) fb, approximately 2.6 standard deviations from the predicted cross section of 511±18 fb calculated at next-to-leading-order QCD and leading-order electroweak accuracy.

Literature review on the cross-link between ocular and renal disease: renin angiotensin aldosterone system is a main actor. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2022; 26:4774-4788. [PMID: 35856370 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_202207_29203] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.5] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 06/15/2023]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and ocular disease share several cardiovascular risk factors as well as pathogenetic mechanisms having Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS) as main actor. Moreover, kidney and eyes have common genetic and embryonic origin. In this literature review, we present main evidence supporting this association for early identifying diseases affecting both systems and evaluating potential multi-target therapeutic strategies. MATERIALS AND METHODS We performed a literature review of the current peer-reviewed English-language randomized controlled studies (RCTs), reference lists of nephrology or ophthalmology textbooks, review articles and relevant studies with ocular or eye and kidney or renal diseases as keywords until March 2020. Prospective and retrospective studies as well as meta-analyses and latest systematic reviews were included. RESULTS We evaluated a total of 683 records, finally selecting 119 articles related to ocular and renal diseases. Records were divided into two areas: chronic and acute kidney disease and ocular or eye diseases. Some of the examined studies were discarded for population biases/intervention or deemed unfit. CONCLUSIONS Based on our results, we conclude that there is evidence of a clear association between kidney and eye diseases, being this cross-link mainly based on RAAS dysregulation. Our review suggests that it may be useful to screen CKD patients for associated ocular diseases, such as cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. A comprehensive study of CKD and proteinuric patients should include careful eye examination. Renal impairment in young patients should prompt a search for ocular disease, such as TUNA syndrome or oculo-renal syndrome, in particular if family history of concurrent ocular and renal disease is present. Anti-RAAS agents are mostly recommended in patients with renal and ocular impairment.

Abstract
The standard model of particle physics1-4 describes the known fundamental particles and forces that make up our Universe, with the exception of gravity. One of the central features of the standard model is a field that permeates all of space and interacts with fundamental particles5-9. The quantum excitation of this field, known as the Higgs field, manifests itself as the Higgs boson, the only fundamental particle with no spin. In 2012, a particle with properties consistent with the Higgs boson of the standard model was observed by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN10,11. Since then, more than 30 times as many Higgs bosons have been recorded by the ATLAS experiment, enabling much more precise measurements and new tests of the theory. Here, on the basis of this larger dataset, we combine an unprecedented number of production and decay processes of the Higgs boson to scrutinize its interactions with elementary particles. Interactions with gluons, photons, and W and Z bosons-the carriers of the strong, electromagnetic and weak forces-are studied in detail. Interactions with three third-generation matter particles (bottom (b) and top (t) quarks, and tau leptons (τ)) are well measured and indications of interactions with a second-generation particle (muons, μ) are emerging. These tests reveal that the Higgs boson discovered ten years ago is remarkably consistent with the predictions of the theory and provide stringent constraints on many models of new phenomena beyond the standard model.

961 ‘WE CARE!’: CARE WORKERS’ SELF-PERCEIVED MEANING OF RESIDENTIAL AGED CARE WORK. Age Ageing 2022. Abstract
Abstract
Introduction
Aged care workers in residential care homes of the elderly (RCHEs) are socially devalued as less skilled, low-paid, and doing ‘dirty work’. Care workers’ insider experiences with the meaning of residential aged care work are largely absent from the community and the literature.
Method
A qualitative study was conducted to examine the self-perceived meaning of work (MOW) among care workers in RCHEs in Hong Kong, an East Asian metropolis with a rapidly aging population, and unique socio-cultural meanings of elderly care. Adopting the Grounded Theory Method, in-depth interviews with 27 care workers in 6 RCHEs were conducted.
Results
Findings suggest that regardless of the job requirements of carrying out ‘dirty tasks’ and shared experiences of public devaluations, RCHE care workers find positive meanings in their work including: contributing to the greater good of helping the elderly; establishing meaningful relationships; forming a professional identity of geriatric care; achieving personal growth; ensuring job security and benefits in the aged care job market. Care workers find their work meaningful primarily because it is essential to maintain the elderly’s health and quality of life, which echoes with the Chinese cultural values of ‘accumulating fortune’ and ‘respecting the elderly’. Engaging in residential care work allows care workers to build long-term relationships with the elderly, through which they found joys and knowledge of life such as letting go. Care workers propose that geriatric care is highly skillful and professional, requiring communication, coordination, and chronic illness care skills. Care workers identify several inhibitors of attaining MOW, including heavy workloads, manpower shortage, and dehumanizing bureaucratic practices.
Conclusion
Care workers offer counter-narratives of public devaluation and reframe the meaning of care work in RCHEs. These findings have broader implications on policy, professional, and education interventions in promoting the public recognition of aged care work.

962 FROM DIRTY WORK TO MEANINGFUL WORK: A PHOTOVOICE STUDY OF RESIDENTIAL AGED CARE IN HONG KONG. Age Ageing 2022. Abstract
Abstract
Introduction
Caregiving work in ‘residential care homes for the elderly’ (RCHEs) has long been devalued as ‘dirty work’, which contributes to RCHE’s acute shortages of health care staff in Hong Kong. This study aims to unearth the voice of the RCHEs workers by delineating their insider perspectives of RCHE work.
Method
Adopting the Photovoice method, a participatory methodology, 30 RCHEs care workers (i.e. Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Health Workers, and Personal Care Workers) were invited to take photos that showcase their perspectives of doing aged care work. Two in-depth interviews were conducted with each research participant before and after the photo-taking procedure. Thematic analysis is then conducted to analyse the visual and verbal data.
Results
Findings show that RCHEs care workers perceive and revitalize the nature and meaning of their work in four ways: conducting ‘dirty tasks’ to help the elderly; valuing and engaging in long-term relationships; learning in work; and cultural meaning of working with the elderly. Contrary to public devaluation, RCHE care workers normalize the delivery of ‘dirty tasks’ (i.e. handling human excreta and wounds) as being helpful to both the elderly and the family members. Besides the routine caring tasks on paper, care workers highlight that they spend a lot of unrecognized labor to build rapport and provide emotional support to the elderly and their family members in their work. They also report that learning and self-development are an important part of residential care work, both in terms of professional knowledge and personal growth. Taking care of the elderly also conveys positive cultural meanings in Chinese society.
Conclusion
Policy, professional and educational initiatives of geriatric care primarily emphasize the delivery of clinical tasks (caring for), while undermining the emotional and relational aspects of aged care work.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Cheese made with unpasteurized milk has been associated with outbreaks of illness. However, there are limited data on the prevalence of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) in these products and a lack of clarity over the significance of E. coli as a general indicator of hygiene in raw milk cheeses. The aim of this study was to provide further data to address both of these issues, as well as assessing the overall microbiological quality of raw milk cheeses available to consumers in England. A total of 629 samples of cheese were collected from retailers, catering premises, and manufacturers throughout England. The majority (80%) were made using cow's milk, with 14% made from sheep's milk and 5% from goat's milk. Samples were from 18 different countries of origin, with the majority originating from either the United Kingdom (40%) or France (35%). When interpreted against European Union microbiological criteria and United Kingdom guidance, 82% were considered to be of satisfactory microbiological quality, 5% were borderline, and 12% were unsatisfactory. Four samples (0.6%) were potentially injurious to health due to the isolation of STEC from one, >104 CFU/g of coagulase-positive staphylococci in two, and >100 CFU/g of Listeria monocytogenes in the fourth sample. Indicator E. coli and Listeria species were detected more frequently in soft compared with hard cheese. Higher levels of indicator E. coli were significantly associated with a greater likelihood of detecting Shiga toxin genes (stx1 and/or stx2). HIGHLIGHTS

Abstract
BACKGROUND Poststroke recovery depends on multiple factors and varies greatly across individuals. Using machine learning models, this study investigated the independent and complementary prognostic role of different patient-related factors in predicting response to language rehabilitation after a stroke. METHODS Fifty-five individuals with chronic poststroke aphasia underwent a battery of standardized assessments and structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging scans, and received 12 weeks of language treatment. Support vector machine and random forest models were constructed to predict responsiveness to treatment using pretreatment behavioral, demographic, and structural and functional neuroimaging data. RESULTS The best prediction performance was achieved by a support vector machine model trained on aphasia severity, demographics, measures of anatomic integrity and resting-state functional connectivity (F1=0.94). This model resulted in a significantly superior prediction performance compared with support vector machine models trained on all feature sets (F1=0.82, P<0.001) or a single feature set (F1 range=0.68-0.84, P<0.001). Across random forest models, training on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging connectivity data yielded the best F1 score (F1=0.87). CONCLUSIONS While behavioral, multimodal neuroimaging data and demographic information carry complementary information in predicting response to rehabilitation in chronic poststroke aphasia, functional connectivity of the brain at rest after stroke is a particularly important predictor of responsiveness to treatment, both alone and combined with other patient-related factors.

Search for Lepton-Flavor Violation in Z-Boson Decays with τ Leptons with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 127:271801. Abstract
A search for lepton-flavor-violating Z→eτ and Z→μτ decays with pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. This analysis uses 139 fb^{-1} of Run 2 pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV and is combined with the results of a similar ATLAS search in the final state in which the τ lepton decays hadronically, using the same data set as well as Run 1 data. The addition of leptonically decaying τ leptons significantly improves the sensitivity reach for Z→ℓτ decays. The Z→ℓτ branching fractions are constrained in this analysis to B(Z→eτ)<7.0×10^{-6} and B(Z→μτ)<7.2×10^{-6} at 95% confidence level. The combination with the previously published analyses sets the strongest constraints to date: B(Z→eτ)<5.0×10^{-6} and B(Z→μτ)<6.5×10^{-6} at 95% confidence level.

Screening of QTc interval and global autonomic activity in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis hypertensive patients. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2021; 25:6333-6338. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Arterial hypertension (AH) represents a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and is associated to several complications, such as prolonged corrected QT (QTc) interval and impaired heart rate variability (HRV). Secondary causes of AH include autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS), both known to be related to arrhythmic risk and autonomic imbalance. The aim of the study is to evaluate whether global autonomic activity and QTc interval differently affect ADPKD and ARAS hypertensive patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS An observational study was performed on 59 patients: 16 ADPKD patients and 19 diagnosed with ARAS, compared to 24 healthy controls (HC). All patients underwent clinical evaluation, biochemical lab tests, 24-hour electrocardiogram (ECG) and renal Doppler ultrasound. HRV was assessed through the analysis of 24-hour ECG to detect standard deviation of normal-to-normal RR intervals (SDNN). QTc interval was defined as prolonged when > 440 msec. RESULTS SDNN was significantly lower in ADPKD and ARAS patients than HC (p < 0.0001) and no significant differences were found between ADPKD and ARAS patients (p > 0.05). QTc was found significantly higher in ARAS patients than HC (p = 0.001) and in ARAS patients than ADPKD patients (p = 0.004). CONCLUSIONS The pathogenesis of hypertension in ADPKD and ARAS patients is related to the activation of the renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS). In ADPKD, cyst enlargement leads to kidney ischemia and renin release, associated to endothelial dysfunction, low nitric oxide and sympathetic tone activation. Differently, reduction in renal perfusion pressure activates RAAS and renal adrenergic nerves in ARAS patients. We can speculate that prolonged QTc interval is more present in ARAS vs. ADPKD hypertensive patients due to a greater activation of RAAS. We suggest adding 24-hour HRV evaluation in association with traditional risk factors in course of ADPKD and ARAS hypertension to better stratify cardiovascular risk in these groups of patients.

Whether high government subsidies reduce the healthcare provision of township healthcare centers in rural China. BMC Health Serv Res 2021; 21:1184. Abstract
Background China’s government launched a large-scale healthcare reform from 2009. One of the main targets of this round reform was to improve the primary health care system. Major reforms for primary healthcare institutions include increasing government investment. However, there are insufficient empirical studies based on large sample to catch long-term effect of increased government subsidy and lack of sufficient incentives on township healthcare centers (THCs), therefore, this study aims to provide additional empirical evidence on the concern by conducting an empirical analysis of THCs in Shaanxi province in China. Methods We collected nine years (2009 to 2017) data of THCs from the Health Finance Annual Report System (HFARS) that was acquired from the Health Commission of Shaanxi Province. We applied two-way fixed effect model and continue difference-in-difference (DID) model to estimate the effect of percentage of government subsidy on medical provision. Results A clear jump of the average percentage of government subsidy to total revenue of THCs can be found in Shaanxi province in 2011, and the average percentage has been more than 60% after 2011. Continue DID models indicate every 1% percentage of government subsidy to total revenue increase after 2011 resulted in a decrease of 1.1 to 3.5% in THCs healthcare provision (1.9% in medical revenue, 1.2% in outpatient visit, 3.5% in total occupy beds of inpatient, 1.1% in surgery revenue, 2.1% in sickbed utilization rate). The results show that the THCs with high government subsidy reduce the number of medical services after 2011. Conclusions We think that it is no doubt that the government should take more responsibility for the financing of primary healthcare institutions, the problem is when government plays a central role in the financing and delivery of primary health care services, more effective incentives should be developed. Gender differences in depressive symptoms of rural Chinese grandparents caring for grandchildren. BMC Public Health 2021; 21:1838. Abstract
BACKGROUND Caring for grandchildren is regarded as one of the principle roles of middle- and old-aged adults, especially among rural Chinese grandparents. This study aims to examine the gender differences in depressive symptoms of rural Chinese grandparents caring for grandchildren, based on the gender differences in grandparental role engagement and the theories of role strain and role enhancement. METHODS A total of 4833 rural citizens with one or more grandchildren were selected from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) conducted in 2015. Grandchild care was measured by continuous variable (duration) and categorical variable (no care, low intensity, moderate intensity, high intensity). Depressive symptoms were assessed by the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). We used coarsened exact matching (CEM) to balance the covariates of caregivers and non-caregivers. Following CEM, 1975 non-caregivers and 2212 caregivers were identified (N = 4187). Multilevel linear regression was employed to examine the gender differences in depressive symptoms. We also tested for the moderating role of gender on the association between grandchild care and depressive symptoms. RESULTS Grandmothers were more likely to provide grandchild care (54.42% vs 51.43%) at high intensity (61.46% vs 51.01%), with longer duration (39.24 h vs 33.15 h) than that given by grandfathers. Grandmothers suffered more from depressive symptoms than grandfathers, and such gap increased when grandparents were involved in high-intensity care. Grandmothers providing grandchild care, particularly at moderate intensity, were associated with fewer depressive symptoms (Coef. = - 0.087, 95%CI: - 0.163, - 0.010; Coef. = - 0.291, 95%CI: - 0.435, - 0.147), compared with non-caregivers. Grandmothers giving moderate intensity of grandchild care were also associated with fewer depressive symptoms (Coef. = - 0.171, 95% CI: - 0.313, - 0.029), compared with those with low-intensity care. However, such associations were not significant among grandfathers. CONCLUSIONS Our findings highlight the gender differences in depressive symptoms of rural Chinese grandparents caring for grandchildren. Grandparents should be encouraged to engage in grandchild care, but at moderate intensity. The health status of middle- and old-aged adults, particularly females, should be monitored closely. Humanistic care, preventive care and curative treatment strategies focusing on such populations should be developed and refined.

Search for New Phenomena in Final States with Two Leptons and One or No b-Tagged Jets at sqrt[s]=13 TeV Using the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 127:141801. Abstract
A search for new phenomena is presented in final states with two leptons and one or no b-tagged jets. The event selection requires the two leptons to have opposite charge, the same flavor (electrons or muons), and a large invariant mass. The analysis is based on the full run-2 proton-proton collision dataset recorded at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb^{-1}. No significant deviation from the expected background is observed in the data. Inspired by the B-meson decay anomalies, a four-fermion contact interaction between two quarks (b, s) and two leptons (ee or μμ) is used as a benchmark signal model, which is characterized by the energy scale and coupling, Λ and g_{*}, respectively. Contact interactions with Λ/g_{*} lower than 2.0 (2.4) TeV are excluded for electrons (muons) at the 95% confidence level, still far below the value that is favored by the B-meson decay anomalies. Model-independent limits are set as a function of the minimum dilepton invariant mass, which allow the results to be reinterpreted in various signal scenarios.

Abstract
Cryptotanshinone (Cry) has multiple potential functions in treating different diseases. Most studies on Cry focus on its pharmacological effects and mechanisms, but toxicological reports on Cry are rare. Zebrafish is used as a model organism in drug development as it saves costs and time. This work aimed to investigate the toxicity of Cry on zebrafish. Results showed that growth retardation, pericardial edema, and scoliosis occurred when zebrafish embryos were exposed to Cry, indicating its teratogenic effects. Cell apoptosis was observed in the brainstem area of embryos using acridine orange staining, and qPCR showed that caspase-3 was increased in Cry-exposed embryos. The results of locomotor activity and touched-evoke escape reaction experiments showed that Cry significantly reduced the swimming speed and escape reaction time of larvae.
