Abstract
Subclinical endometritis affects reproductive outcomes and causes economic losses in dairy cows, thus, it is important to understand disease progression mechanisms and develop diagnostic procedures for better disease management. We measured the levels of 146 lipid mediators in uterine flush samples using lipid chromatography-mass spectrometry. We detected 25 lipid mediators in the uterine flush of both the control and subclinical endometritis cows; 15 of the 25 lipid mediators were AA-derived metabolites. Among the AA-derived metabolites, cyclooxygenase (COX)-generated mediators were the most abundant. Specifically, levels of 11β-13,14-dihydro-15-keto prostaglandin (PG) F2α, PGE2, PGA2, 13-hydroxyoctadecadienoic acid, and PGD1 were elevated in all the cows with subclinical endometritis. This study may provide new insights for the management of subclinical bovine endometritis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A clinically applicable mortality risk prediction system for pulmonary TB may improve treatment outcomes, but no easy-to-calculate and accurate score has yet been reported. The aim of this study was to construct a simple and objective disease severity score for patients with pulmonary TB. RESEARCH QUESTION Does a clinical score consisting of simple objective factors predict the mortality risk of patients with pulmonary TB? STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS The data set from our previous prospective study that recruited patients newly diagnosed with pulmonary TB was used for the development cohort. Patients for the validation cohort were prospectively recruited between March 2021 and September 2022. The primary end point was all-cause in-hospital mortality. Using Cox proportional hazards regression, a mortality risk prediction model was optimized in the development cohort. The disease severity score was developed by assigning integral points to each variate. RESULTS The data from 252 patients in the development cohort and 165 patients in the validation cohort were analyzed, of whom 39 (15.5%) and 17 (10.3%), respectively, died in the hospital. The disease severity score (named the AHL score) included three clinical parameters: activities of daily living (semi-dependent, 1 point; totally dependent, 2 points); hypoxemia (1 point), and lymphocytes (< 720/μL, 1 point). This score showed good discrimination with a C statistic of 0.902 in the development cohort and 0.842 in the validation cohort. We stratified the score into three groups (scores of 0, 1-2, and 3-4), which clearly corresponded to low (0% and 1.3%), intermediate (13.5% and 8.9%), and high (55.8% and 39.3%) mortality risk in the development and validation cohorts. INTERPRETATION The easy-to-calculate AHL disease severity score for patients with pulmonary TB was able to categorize patients into three mortality risk groups with great accuracy. Abstract
A high temperature-humidity index during summer has deleterious effects on mitochondrial function, reducing oocyte developmental competence. 5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) and sodium ferrous citrate (SFC) are both known to support mitochondrial function and have strong anti-oxidant and anti-apoptotic activities. This study aimed to determine the mechanism of action of 5-ALA/SFC on oocyte quality. Bovine oocytes were collected from medium-sized follicles during summer (July-September, temperature-humidity index:76.6), cultured with 0, 1, 2, 4, and 8 µM 5-ALA with SFC at a molar ratio of 1:0.125, fertilized, and cultured for 10 days. The addition of 8/1 µM 5-ALA/SFC had a deleterious effect on oocyte cleavage rate in comparison with control oocytes, but did not affect the blastocyst rate, while 1/0.125 µM 5-ALA/SFC had a significantly higher increase in blastocyst rate than 8/1 µM 5-ALA/SFC. The addition of 1/0.125 and 2/0.25 µM 5-ALA/SFC improved oocyte quality by increasing the mitochondrial distribution pattern and metaphase-II oocytes, reducing reactive oxygen species and upregulating nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2, heme oxygenase-1, and superoxide dismutase-1 in oocytes, and nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 and mitochondrial transcription factor A in cumulus cells. These results indicate that 1/0.125 and 2/0.25 µM 5-ALA/SFC may support oocyte quality and developmental competence and provide anti-oxidant actions in cumulus-oocyte complexes.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a biological hemocomponent derived from blood after the complete removal of red blood cells and the partial or complete removal of white blood cells to concentrate platelets in an appropriate volume of plasma. Platelets have important growth factors, cytokines, and active metabolites that improve the endometrial environment and positively affect implantation. This study evaluated the effect of the addition of activated PRP (platelets lysate; PL) on in vitro bovine oocyte maturation and embryonic development and the effect of intrauterine (IU) infusion of autologous PL in repeat breeder (RB) cows. Experiment 1 examined the effects of allogeneic PL, fetal calf serum (FCS), mixed PL + FCS, or platelet-poor plasma (PPP) supplementations to in vitro maturation and development media on in vitro oocyte maturation and embryo development in good- and poor-quality oocytes of Japanese Black cows. Experiment 2 examined the IU infusion of autologous PL, 24 h post-insemination, in 21 RB Holstein-Friesian dairy cows. The cleavage rate of good-quality oocytes was higher in the PL group (85.93 ± 2.50%) than in the PPP group (67.16 ± 3.41%) (P < 0.05), while the cleavage rate of the poor-quality oocytes was higher in the PL alone (76.13 ± 4.04%) and mixed PL + FCS treated (73.59 ± 4.22%) groups than in the PPP group (54.64 ± 2.93%) (P < 0.05). The blastocyst rate of the good-quality oocytes was higher in the PL group (40.97 ± 3.03%) than in the FCS (27.97 ± 3.31%) and PPP (25.33 ± 2.15%) groups (P < 0.05). The blastocyst rate of poor-quality oocytes and the hatching rates of both good and poor-quality oocytes showed no significant differences among all groups. The conception rate in the autologous PL-treated group was 41.67% (5/12), while it was 11.11% (1/9) in the control group. The platelets' count in the pregnant PL-treated cows (n = 5; mean ± SEM, 1.07 ± 0.10 × 109/mL) was higher than in the non-pregnant ones (n = 7; 0.67 ± 0.10 × 109/mL) (P < 0.05). In conclusion, allogeneic PL was effective in stimulating the in vitro oocyte maturation and embryonic development in both good and poor-quality bovine oocytes, and post-insemination IU infusion of autologous PL derived from high platelets' count-PRP would be recommended for the treatment of RB cows.

Abstract
In recent years, computer simulation has been increasingly used to predict changes in actual ecosystems. In these studies, snapshots of ecosystems at certain points in time were instantly constructed without considering their evolutionary histories. However, it may not be possible to correctly predict future events unless their evolutionary processes are considered. In this study, we developed a new ecosystem model for reproducing the evolutionary process on an oceanic island, targeting Nakoudojima Island of the Ogasawara Islands. This model successfully reproduced the primitive ecosystem (the entire island covered with forest) prior to the invasion of alien species. Also, by adding multiple alien species to this ecosystem, we were able to reproduce temporal changes in the ecosystem of Nakoudojima Island after invasion of alien species. Then, we performed simulations in which feral goats were eradicated, as had actually been done on the island; these suggested that after the eradication of feral goats, forests were unlikely to be restored. In the ecosystems in which forests were not restored, arboreous plants with a high growth rate colonized during the early stage of evolution. As arboreous plants with a high growth rate consume a large amount of nutrient in soil, creating an oligotrophic state. As a result, plants cannot grow, and animal species that rely on plants cannot maintain their biomass. Consequently, many animals and plants become extinct as they cannot endure disturbances by alien species, and the ecosystem loses its resilience. Therefore, even if feral goats are eradicated, forests are not restored. Thus, the founder effect from the distant past influences future ecosystem changes. Our findings show that it is useful to consider the evolutionary process of an ecosystem in predicting its future events.

Abstract
Prediction of the spaces used by animals is an important component of wildlife management, but requires detailed information such as animal visit and occupy in a short span of the target species. Computational simulation is often employed as an effective and economical approach. In this study, the visit and occupy of sika deer (Cervus nippon) during the plant growing season were predicted using a virtual ecological approach. A virtual ecological model was established to predict the visit and occupy of sika deer based on the indices of their food resources. The simulation results were validated against data collected from a camera trapping system. The study was conducted from May to November in 2018 in the northern Kanto region of Japan. The predictive performance of the model using the kernel normalized difference vegetation index (kNDVI) was relatively high in the earlier season, whereas that of the model using landscape structure was relatively low. The predictive performance of the model using combination of the kNDVI and landscape structure was relatively high in the later season. Unfortunately, visit and occupy of sika deer could not predict in November. The use of both models, depending on the month, achieved the best performance to predict the movements of sika deer.

Abstract
Samples of the carbonaceous asteroid Ryugu were brought to Earth by the Hayabusa2 spacecraft. We analyzed 17 Ryugu samples measuring 1 to 8 millimeters. Carbon dioxide-bearing water inclusions are present within a pyrrhotite crystal, indicating that Ryugu's parent asteroid formed in the outer Solar System. The samples contain low abundances of materials that formed at high temperatures, such as chondrules and calcium- and aluminum-rich inclusions. The samples are rich in phyllosilicates and carbonates, which formed through aqueous alteration reactions at low temperature, high pH, and water/rock ratios of <1 (by mass). Less altered fragments contain olivine, pyroxene, amorphous silicates, calcite, and phosphide. Numerical simulations, based on the mineralogical and physical properties of the samples, indicate that Ryugu's parent body formed ~2 million years after the beginning of Solar System formation.

Epidemiological characteristics of nontuberculous mycobacteriosis and bronchiectasis: comparative study using national mortality statistics from 1970 to 2015 in Japan. Abstract
Background This study assessed longitudinal national data on mortality due to nontuberculous mycobacteriosis (NTMosis) and bronchiectasis and the association between the two diseases. Methods We analysed the national death statistics of Japan from 1970 to 2015. The International Classification of Disease (ICD) codes were used to extract the relevant data. Crude mortality, age-adjusted mortality and standardised mortality rates were calculated using vital statistics and the population in 2000. We also identified domestic publications related to NTMosis and bronchiectasis with an internet-based search system. Results The total number of bronchiectasis-related deaths remained at the same level, which was approximately 1000, for 45 years, although the number of deaths has consistently decreased in males but increased in females since the mid-1990s. A substantial increasing trend in females was also observed for NTMosis in the same period. The age-adjusted mortality data showed an increase in mortality in women due to NTMosis and confirmed the trend in bronchiectasis in women. The patterns in the number of domestic reports showed a recent slight increase in bronchiectasis and a marked increase in NTMosis. Conclusions The trends in bronchiectasis-related mortality differed by sex. The epidemiological trends in the two diseases were associated, especially in elderly females since the mid-1990s. It is suggested that pulmonary NTMosis without pre-existing bronchiectasis might be a leading cause of postinfectious bronchiectasis in Japan.

Abstract
Dystocia and stillbirths in cows pose a high risk of loss of both dams and fetuses, thereby resulting in high economic losses. One of the causes of these problems is birth canal abnormalities. Thus, to prevent these occurrences, it is necessary to understand the mechanisms underlying cervical ripening. Although physiological inflammatory responses and changes in collagen composition have been reported in humans and mice, related information is scarce for cows. We observed inflammatory changes and changes in the collagen composition in the cervix from late pregnancy to parturition to clarify some of the physiological changes associated with cervical ripening during normal calving in cows. Cervical mucus and tissue samples were collected from 41 Japanese Black cows at 200, 230, and 260 days of gestation and at 7-day intervals thereafter until parturition. The percentage of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN%) in the mucus was calculated, and interleukin (IL)-8 concentration was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Blood samples were collected from the jugular vein, and leukocyte counts were determined. Picrosirius red-stained cervical tissue specimens were observed under a polarizing microscope, and the percentage of type I and type III collagen areas in the cervical tissue were calculated. The PMN% in cervical mucus was lowest at 200 days gestation (12−13 weeks before delivery), significantly increased 5 weeks before (21.7 ± 0.04), and was highest 1 week before calving (50.9 ± 0.04). IL-8 levels were increased at 295 days compared with those at 200 days of pregnancy (p < 0.05). No significant changes were observed in the white blood cell counts. The percentage of type I collagen in the cervical tissue reached a maximum (91.4 ± 0.02%) on day 200, significantly decreased after 274 days (3 weeks before calving), and continued to decrease thereafter until the week of parturition. There was no significant change in type III collagen levels. The results suggest that cervical ripening progresses when PMNs begin to infiltrate the cervix at around 260 days of gestation (5−4 weeks before parturition), IL-8, which increases at the end of pregnancy, mobilizes PMNs, and enhances inflammation, and that type I collagen changes are useful as an indicator of cervical ripening.

Abstract
Cryptorchidism is defined as the failure of the testis to descend into the scrotal position. Bulls with cryptorchidism have problems in both meat quality and husbandry management; thus, it is greatly important to accurately identify the retained testis and remove it during the early stage. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) was performed under general anesthesia in 34 bulls aged 3-9 months with cryptorchidism. All bulls underwent laparoscopic or incision approach for cryptorchidectomy, and 40 testes were dissected. The detection rates of retained testes were 64.5% in the abdominal cavity and 100% in the subcutaneous inguinal region, and the total detection rate was 72.5%. Furthermore, all cases in this study were suspected to have intra-abdominal cryptorchidism in primary care, but CT revealed that 22.5% of cases had cryptorchidism in the subcutaneous inguinal region. The CT value (mean ± standard deviation) of the retained testes was 20.96 ± 7.41 Hounsfield Unit, and the CT value and size of the retained testes showed a positive weak correlation with bovine age. Therefore, there is the demerit that general anesthesia and a huge device are necessary; nevertheless, CT is suggested to be useful in identifying the location of retained testes and selecting an appropriate surgical approach in bulls with cryptorchidism. Moreover, CT findings suggested that the maturation of the retained testes might depend not on the descending process but on age.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a recently-emerged infectious disease that has caused millions of deaths, where comprehensive understanding of disease mechanisms is still unestablished. In particular, studies of gene expression dynamics and regulation landscape in COVID-19 infected individuals are limited. Here, we report on a thorough analysis of whole blood RNA-seq data from 465 genotyped samples from the Japan COVID-19 Task Force, including 359 severe and 106 non-severe COVID-19 cases. We discover 1169 putative causal expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) including 34 possible colocalizations with biobank fine-mapping results of hematopoietic traits in a Japanese population, 1549 putative causal splice QTLs (sQTLs; e.g. two independent sQTLs at TOR1AIP1), as well as biologically interpretable trans-eQTL examples (e.g., REST and STING1), all fine-mapped at single variant resolution. We perform differential gene expression analysis to elucidate 198 genes with increased expression in severe COVID-19 cases and enriched for innate immune-related functions. Finally, we evaluate the limited but non-zero effect of COVID-19 phenotype on eQTL discovery, and highlight the presence of COVID-19 severity-interaction eQTLs (ieQTLs; e.g., CLEC4C and MYBL2). Our study provides a comprehensive catalog of whole blood regulatory variants in Japanese, as well as a reference for transcriptional landscapes in response to COVID-19 infection. Genetic mechanisms influencing COVID-19 susceptibility are not well understood. Here, the authors analyzed whole blood RNA-seq data of 465 Japanese individuals with COVID-19, highlighting thousands of fine-mapped variants affecting expression and splicing of genes, as well as the presence of COVID-19 severity-interaction eQTLs.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of herd size on stillbirth and dystocia rates; the relationships between herd size, calving season, parity, and gestation length in Japanese Black cattle were also explored. Data were collected for 41,184 calvings from 15,512 animals on 905 farms between 2006 and 2010. In this study, herds were classified into three groups based on size: small (1−10 cows), medium (11−50 cows), and large (≥51 cows). Herd size had an effect on the dystocia rate (p < 0.05) but not the stillbirth rate. Additionally, interactions between herd size and gestation length were associated with the dystocia rate (p < 0.05), and the dystocia rate was the highest in small herds, followed by medium and large herds for cows with a gestation length of 281−300 days, which is considered a pregnancy of normal duration. In summary, in Japanese Black cattle, there were different effects of herd size on the stillbirth rate and dystocia rates, as herd size was associated with the dystocia rate but not with the stillbirth rate.

Abstract
Calf mortality severely affects productivity in the beef industry. The present study was conducted to assess the calf mortality risk (CMR) in Japanese Black calves and investigate potential associations between calf/cow information and the CMR. Records for calves born between April 2006 and March 2010 were extracted from an existing database, which included production data on commercial cow-calf operations in Miyazaki, Japan. The study group comprised 40,462 calves born to 15,600 cows on 908 farms. Because calves on the studied farms were weaned at approximately 4 months of age, the calf records were collected from birth to 120 days. The CMR was calculated as the number of dead calves divided by the number of surviving calves. Mixed-effect multivariable logistic regression modeling was used to determine potential associations between the CMR and the factors hypothesized to influence that risk. CMR analyses were performed separately for the following production stages: days 0-30, days 31-60, days 61-90 and days 91-120 after birth. Of the 40,462 calves, 1465 died during days 0-120 after birth, and the CMR was 3.6 %. Of the 1465 dead calves, 35.9 % died within 10 days after birth. During the 0-30-day period, the CMR was associated with dam parity, calving status, gestation length, sex, birth season and twin births (P < 0.05), but not with the number of inseminations to conception. Low parity, dystocia, gestation lengths < 280 days and > 301 days, male calves, calves born in autumn and winter and twin births yielded higher CMRs. Low dam parity also yielded higher CMRs during the 31-60-day, 61-90-day and 91-120-day periods (P < 0.05), but no other factors were associated with the CMR during these periods. Thus, various cow and calf factors were shown to be associated with CMRs in Japanese Black calves, and calves with these factors should be considered high-risk calves.

Abstract
This report describes an intra-abdominal mass caused by progesterone-containing
controlled internal drug release (CIDR) devices in the abdominal cavity of a 28-month-old
Japanese Black heifer presenting with infertility. Rectal examination revealed a mass
containing a cartilage-like object in the pelvic cavity. Computed tomography revealed a
mass containing two T-shaped foreign bodies. Laparotomy was performed to remove the mass
containing the foreign bodies. The heifer was healthy at discharge seven days
post-surgery. This case adds CIDR device as a new etiology for intra-abdominal masses.
Furthermore, it highlights the usefulness of CT in diagnosing deep abdominal lesions.

administration in combination with sodium ferrous citrate (SFC) during in vitro maturation (IVM) on bovine oocyte developmental competence evaluated at high THI. Bovine
ovaries were collected from a local slaughterhouse at moderate environmental temperature (MT; THI of 56.2) and high environmental temperature (HT; THI of 76.7) periods; cumulus-oocyte
complexes (COCs) were aspirated from medium-sized follicles, matured in vitro for 22 h, fertilized, and cultured for 10 days. For COCs collected during the HT period, 0
(control), 0.01, 0.1, 0.5, or 1 µM 5-ALA was added to the maturation medium in combination with SFC at a molar ratio of 1:0.125. The results showed that HT adversely affected blastocyst and
hatching rates compared with MT. Adding 5-ALA/SFC (1 µM/0.125 µM) to the maturation medium of oocytes collected during the HT period improved cumulus cell expansion and blastocyst rates
compared with the no-addition control. In conclusion, this study showed that high THI can disrupt bovine oocyte developmental competence. Adding 5-ALA to SFC ameliorates this negative effect
of heat stress and improves subsequent embryo development.

Abstract
This study aimed to clarify the relationship between the maternal pelvis and calf size in normal and dystocia groups (Experiment 1) and to establish a method to predict dystocia due to physical imbalance between foetus and maternal pelvis before calving based on the parameters found in Experiment 1 (Experiment 2). In Experiment 1, 26 pairs of dams and their offspring were tested immediately after calving, and various parameters of offspring size and maternal pelvis were measured in normal and dystocia cases. The longitudinal diameter of the maternal pelvis was smaller (P < 0.01), and ratios of the offspring's birth weight and the width of the hoof crown (hoof width; measured using callipers) to the longitudinal diameter of the maternal pelvis were larger (P < 0.01) in the dystocia group than those in the normal group. In Experiment 2, 37 cows were tested, and in addition to the measurement items of Experiment 1, the inner pelvic diameter and the foetal hoof width were measured via ultrasonography at 285 days of gestation. The ratio of the internal diameter of the maternal pelvis (longitudinal diameter, transverse diameter, and area) to the foetal hoof width was compared and was greater (P < 0.01) in the dystocia group than in the normal group. In conclusion, the risk of dystocia can be estimated by the ratio of the foetal hoof width to the longitudinal diameter of the maternal pelvis before calving.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) sometimes show persistent severe inflammation for more than 1 month, even if TB treatment is effective. Although this inflammation can be improved through continuous antituberculous therapy, the risk factors for persistent inflammation remain unclear. Therefore, we sought to study the characteristics of patients with persistent severe inflammation. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 147 hospitalized adult patients with C-reactive protein (CRP) levels of 5 mg/dL or more on admission to Fukujuji Hospital from April 2019 to March 2021. The patients were divided into 2 groups: 40 patients (27.2%) had CRP levels of 5 mg/dL or more at 4 weeks after admission (persistent inflammation group), and 107 patients (72.8%) had CRP levels that fell below 5 mg/dL within 4 weeks of admission (improved inflammation group). RESULTS The median CRP level on admission in the persistent inflammation group was 10.8 mg/dL (interquartile range 9.1-14.5), which was higher than that in the improved inflammation group (median 8.2 mg/dL [6.5-12.1], P = .002). Patients in the persistent inflammation group had a higher prevalence of large cavities, defined as cavities ≥4 cm in diameter, on chest computed tomography (CT) (n = 20 [50.0%] vs n = 12 [11.2%], P < .001). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS This study showed that 27.2% of patients who had high or moderate inflammation on admission did not achieve low CRP levels within 4 weeks after admission. Risk factors for persistent severe inflammation in patients with TB were presence of a large cavity (cavity diameter ≥4 cm) on chest CT and a high CRP level on admission. Therefore, in a patient with a large cavity on chest CT and/or CRP ≥9.0 mg/dL on admission, long-term inflammation may occur despite antituberculous therapy if other diseases are ruled out.

Background
Previous studies have shown that von Willebrand factor (VWF) increases, and a disintegrin-like and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin type-1 motifs 13 (ADAMTS13) decreases in myocardial infarction. Few studies have examined the involvement of the VWF-ADAMTS13 axis in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients with atrial fibrillation (AF).
Purpose
Our aim was to investigate VWF-ADAMTS13 axis involvement in atrial fibrillation in STEMI.
Methods
The subjects of this study were participants in an observational study for investigating the difference in the pathology of thrombus retrieved from infarct-related artery between AF and sinus rhythm (SR). From June 2019 to August 2020, patients who underwent thrombus aspiration for STEMI at our hospital. Only subjects whose thrombus could be confirmed were enrolled. They were divided into two groups, the AF group, and the SR group. Serum biomarkers, including ADAMTS13 activity, and VWF were evaluated.
Results
34 patients with STEMI who were able to aspirate thrombus were enrolled in the study. They were divided into two groups: 6 patients with AF (AF group, mean age 72.5 years, 100% male) and 28 patients with SR (SR group, mean age 63.0 years, 100% male). ADAMTS13 activity was significantly lower in AF group than SR group (AF: 0.63 ± 0.14 vs. SR: 0.77 ± 0.13 U / mL, p = 0.037). There was no significant difference in VWF antigen between the two groups (AF: 251 ± 56 vs. SR: 204 ± 69%, p = 0.170). VWF/ADAMTS13 activity in AF group were significantly higher than in SR group.
Conclusion
Our study suggests an association between the VWF-ADAMTS13 axis and atrial fibrillation in STEMI. Abstract Table. Comparison of serum biomarkers

Abstract
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has led to a worldwide lockdown, and this restriction on human movements and activities has significantly affected society and the environment. Some effects might be quantitative, but some might be qualitative, and some effects could prolong immediately and/or persistently. This study examined the consequences of global lockdown for human movement and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) emissions using an air pollution index and dataset and satellite image analyses. We also evaluated the immediate (during lockdown) and persistent (after lockdown) effects of lockdown on achieving the SDGs. Our analysis revealed a drastic reduction in human movement and NO2 emissions and showed that many SDGs were influenced both immediately and persistently due to the global lockdown. We observed the immediate negative impacts on four goals and positive impacts on five goals, especially those concerning economic issues and ecosystem conservation, respectively. The persistent effects of lockdown were likely to be predominantly reversed from their immediate impacts due to economic recovery. The global lockdown has influenced the global community's ability to meet the SDGs, and our analysis provides powerful insights into the status of the internationally agreed-upon SDGs both during and after the COVID-19-induced global lockdown. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pulmonary rehabilitation improves the physical condition of patients with chronic respiratory disease; however, there are patients who cannot leave the hospital because of their low activities of daily living (ADLs), despite the completion of primary respiratory disease treatment and rehabilitation during treatment. Therefore, this study demonstrated that those patients recovered their ADLs through in-hospital pulmonary rehabilitation after treatment completion. METHODS We prospectively studied 24 hospitalized patients who had some remaining symptoms and showed low ADL scores of 9 points or less on the short physical performance battery after undergoing treatment for respiratory disease in Fukujuji Hospital from October 2018 to October 2019, excluding 2 patients who had re-exacerbation and 1 patient who could not be examined using the incremental shuttle walk test (ISWT). After completion of the primary respiratory disease treatment, patients moved to the regional comprehensive care ward, and they received pulmonary rehabilitation for 2 weeks. In the ward, patients who could not yet leave the hospital could undergo pulmonary rehabilitation for up to 60 days. Data were evaluated three times: upon treatment completion (baseline), postrehabilitation, and 3 months after baseline. The main outcome was an improvement in the incremental shuttle walk test (ISWT) postrehabilitation. RESULTS The median age of the patients was 80 (interquartile range (IQR): 74.8-84.5), and 14 patients (58.3%) were male. The ISWT distance significantly increased postrehabilitation (median [IQR]: 60 m [18-133] vs 120 m [68-203], P < .001). The Barthel Index (BI) (P < .001), the modified Medical Research Council (P < .001), and other scale scores were also improved. Among patients with acute respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and interstitial pneumonia, ISWT and other data showed improvement at the postrehabilitation timepoint. Ten patients who could perform examinations at 3 months after baseline were evaluated 3 months after taking baseline data prior to starting rehabilitation. The ISWT showed significant improvement 3 months after baseline compared to baseline (P = .024), and the ISWT distance was maintained after rehabilitation. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS Physical activity, symptoms, mental health, and ADL status in patients who had not recovered after primary treatment completion for respiratory diseases could improve through in-hospital pulmonary rehabilitation.

Abstract
The mirid bugs Stenotus rubrovittatus and Trigonotylus caelestialium, which cause pecky rice, have become a threat to rice cultivation in Asia. Damage caused by these pests has rapidly become frequent since around 2000 in Japan. Their expansion pattern is not simple, and predicting their future spread remains challenging. Some insects with wide ranges have locally adapted variations in life-history traits. We performed laboratory rearing experiments to assess the geographical scale of intraspecific variations in life-history traits of S. rubrovittatus and T. caelestialium. The experiments were aimed at increasing the accuracy of occurrence estimates and the number of generations per year. These results were compared with previous research, and differences in development rates were observed between populations of different latitudes, but not of the same latitude. Finally, plotting the timing of adult emergence and the potential number of generations per year on maps with a 5-km grid revealed that they differed greatly locally at the same latitude. These maps can be used for developing more efficient methods of managing mirid bugs in integrated pest management.

Abstract
Biodiversity informatics is a new and evolving field, requiring efforts to develop capacity and a curriculum for this field of science. The main objective was to summarise the level of activity and the efforts towards developing biodiversity informatics curricula, for work-based training and/or academic teaching at universities, taking place within the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) countries and its associated network. A survey approach was used to identify existing capacities and resources within the network. Most of GBIF Nodes survey respondents (80%) are engaged in onsite training activities, with a focus on work-based professionals, mostly researchers, policy-makers and students. Training topics include data mobilisation, digitisation, management, publishing, analysis and use, to enable the accessibility of analogue and digital biological data that currently reside as scattered datasets. An initial assessment of academic teaching activities highlighted that countries in most regions, to varying degrees, were already engaged in the conceptualisation, development and/or implementation of formal academic programmes in biodiversity informatics, including programmes in Benin, Colombia, Costa Rica, Finland, France, India, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, Taiwan and Togo. Digital e-learning platforms were an important tool to help build capacity in many countries. In terms of the potential in the Nodes network, 60% expressed willingness to be recruited or commissioned for capacity enhancement purposes. Contributions and activities of various country nodes across the network have been highlighted and a working curriculum framework has been defined.

A certain level of endometrial bacterial infection and inflammation is involved in bovine uterine involution during the puerperal period. Factors that hamper normal uterine involution
expose the uterine environment to pathological conditions, causing different endometritis levels. The lack of proper diagnostic tools extends the time to conception. Efforts have been made
to elucidate the postpartum uterine environment, including bacterial flora, changes in transient endometrial inflammation, and the pathophysiology of endometritis, to improve bovine
reproductive performance. E. coli and Trueperella pyogenes in the uterus are likely to cause persistent infection, and Mycoplasma
bovigenitalium infection is associated with dystocia and cytological endometritis in postpartum dairy cows. Due to the widespread use of cytobrush as a diagnostic tool for bovine
subclinical endometritis (SE) that enables quantification of the degree of inflammation, we found that endometritis at week 5 postpartum was associated with delayed first ovulation.
Approximately 30% of open cows have SE during the postpartum period, and cows with low blood glucose during prepartum have a high risk of developing SE. Additionally, cows with purulent
vaginal discharge do not always have endometritis but only vaginitis and/or cervicitis. Intrauterine infusion of polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine (PVP-I) improves fertility and promotes
endometrial epithelial cell regeneration after inducing transient uterine inflammation, suggesting that PVP-I could be a good alternative to antibiotics. In conclusion, prepartum management
to prevent glucose deficiency, prompt diagnosis to identify causative agents and intrauterine inflammation levels, and appropriate treatment to minimize antimicrobial resistance is
beneficial for tackling endometritis and improving reproductive performance in bovine herds.

relationship between Lactobacillus spp. and pathogenic bacteria in the endometrium of postpartum dairy cows. Endometrial samples were collected from 41
Holstein-Friesian cows at 4 and 8 weeks postpartum using cytobrushes for polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) count and bacterial culture to isolate Lactobacillus
spp., Escherichiacoli, and Trueperella pyogenes. The 4-week samples were divided into four groups (E+L+), (E+L−),
(E−L+), (E−L−) according to whether endometritis was diagnosed (E+) and Lactobacillus spp. was isolated (L+). The diagnostic criterion for cytological
endometritis was > 18% PMN. The average PMN% in the E+L+ group was lower than that in the E+L-group (P < 0.05) at 8 weeks postpartum. There were no significant correlations between the
number of colonies of Lactobacillus spp. and E. coli or between that of Lactobacillus spp. and T. pyogenes.
Lactobacillus spp. could reduce PMN% in dairy cows with endometritis during the puerperal period. In conclusion, the intrauterine presence of
Lactobacillus spp. may have a positive effect on uterine involution in postpartum dairy cows.

Abstract
The use of azacitidine (AZA) has been known to lead to a high incidence of hematotoxic adverse events. The aims of this study were to identify the risk factors for thrombocytopenia after the administration of AZA and to analyze time to the initial platelet transfusion. Sixty-two patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), who were treated with AZA in Gifu Municipal Hospital between March 2012 and June 2020, were included in this study. The risk factors for thrombocytopenia were identified using univariate analysis of patient characteristics, disease type, and laboratory values immediately before the start of treatment. Variables with p<0.2 identified in the univariate analysis were used as independent variables in the multivariate analysis. This analysis identified "creatinine clearance (CCr) <60 mL/min" as a significant factor (odds ratio, 4.790; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.380-16.70; p=0.014). Subsequently, time in days to the initial platelet transfusion after the initial administration of AZA was analyzed using the log-rank test. The overall median time in days to platelet transfusion was 370 days. The log-rank test was used to determine the influence of patient characteristics, disease type, and laboratory values immediately before the start of treatment. The subsequent Cox proportional hazard regression analysis using variables with p<0.2 as independent variables identified "hemoglobin (Hb) <8.0 g/dL" as a significant factor (hazard ratio, 2.143; 95% CI, 1.001-4.573; p=0.048). The results of this study led to the following clinical implications: first, patients with CCr of <60 mL/min at the start of treatment should be treated with caution due to the risk of thrombocytopenia. Second, patients with Hb of <8.0 g/dL at the start of treatment may require platelet transfusion in the early stage of treatment.

Abstract
This study aimed to clarify the effectiveness of foetal body weight estimation by measuring foetal coronet width using transrectal ultrasonography in beef cows during near-term pregnancy. A characteristic 'gull wing' pattern was obtained from the foetal coronet cross-section from the dewclaw side using ultrasonography. This pattern was matched to the bone surface of the distal part of the middle phalanx. Then, the relationship between coronet width and body weight at birth of 22 Japanese Brown calves was analysed and a high correlation coefficient of 0.8965 (P < 0.001) was obtained. In conclusion, the coronet width of the fetus is depicted as a 'gull wing' hyperechoic structure and can be measured by ultrasonography per rectum during near-term pregnancy. This technique may be a useful tool to identify high-risk cows with dystocia before calving. High foetal coronet values may predispose cattle to dystocia.

Abstract
We observed electronic K x rays emitted from muonic iron atoms using superconducting transition-edge sensor microcalorimeters. The energy resolution of 5.2 eV in FWHM allowed us to observe the asymmetric broad profile of the electronic characteristic Kα and Kβ x rays together with the hypersatellite K^{h}α x rays around 6 keV. This signature reflects the time-dependent screening of the nuclear charge by the negative muon and the L-shell electrons, accompanied by electron side feeding. Assisted by a simulation, these data clearly reveal the electronic K- and L-shell hole production and their temporal evolution on the 10-20 fs scale during the muon cascade process.

Abstract
A high proportion of hospitalizations is attributable to the prevalence of adverse drug events. This retrospective study included outpatients and inpatients to determine the prevalence of adverse drug events and if polypharmacy increases it. The prevalence, classification, and causality of adverse drug events were assessed based on medical records, laboratory values, and other data. Multivariate analysis (multiple logistic regression analysis) was performed with the presence or absence of adverse drug events at the time of the visit as the dependent variable and items for which the P-value was <0.25 in the univariate analysis as independent variables. The prevalence of adverse drug events was 13.0%, 10.9%, and 16.0% among all patients, the outpatient group, and the inpatient group, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that polypharmacy (≥5 drugs) significantly increased the risk of adverse drug events in all patients. The prevalence of adverse drug events significantly increased with each additional drug used. We expect that minimizing the number of medications through moderation of the number of prescription drugs and elimination of polypharmacy will reduce the number of outpatient visits and hospitalizations due to adverse drug events.

Abstract
Waterproofing spray-associated pneumonitis (WAP) proceeds to acute respiratory failure and is characterized by diffuse bilateral ground-glass opacities on computed tomography; however, the detailed characteristics of WAP are unknown. Therefore, this study identified the characteristics of WAP from comparisons with those of acute eosinophilic pneumonia (AEP) and hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP), which show similar features to WAP.Adult patients with WAP, AEP, and HP treated in Fukujuji Hospital from 1990 to 2018 were retrospectively enrolled. Furthermore, data from patients with WAP were collected from publications in PubMed and the Japan Medical Abstracts Society and combined with data from our patients.Thirty-three patients with WAP, eleven patients with AEP, and thirty patients with HP were reviewed. Regarding age, sex, smoking habit, and laboratory findings (white blood cell count, C-reactive protein level, and serum Krebs von den Lungen-6 level), WAP and AEP were not significantly different, while WAP and HP were significantly different. The duration from symptom appearance to hospital visit was shorter in patients with WAP (median 1 day) than in patients with AEP (median 3 days, P = .006) or HP (median 30 days, P < .001). The dominant cells in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of patients with WAP, AEP, and HP were different (macrophages, eosinophils, and lymphocytes, respectively).The characteristic features of WAP were rapid disease progression and macrophage dominance in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and these characteristics can be used to distinguish among WAP, AEP, and HP.

Abstract
Globally, tuberculosis is the leading infectious cause of death; discovering biomarkers that predict a high mortality risk may improve treatment outcomes. We prospectively enrolled 252 pulmonary tuberculosis patients who were not coinfected with human immunodeficiency virus and initiated antituberculosis treatment, measured serum procalcitonin levels (PCT), and assessed mortality risk. PCT serum levels higher than 0.13 (day 0), 0.05 (day 7), 0.12 (day 14), or 0.06 (day 28) ng/mL predicted nonsurvivors with odds ratios of 7.9, 14.3, 20.0, and 7.3, respectively (P ≤ .005 for all), respectively. Therefore, serum PCT levels are a promising mortality risk indicator for patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Main Point. For patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, a promising mortality risk indicator is the level of serum procalcitonin, which is weakly associated with sputum bacterial load and independent of radiographic findings.

Abstract
Background Although integrated pest management (IPM) is essential for conservation agriculture, this method can be inadequate for severely infected fields. The ability to predict the potential occurrence of severe infestation of soil-borne disease would enable farmers to adopt suitable methods for high-risk areas, such as soil disinfestation, and apply other options for lower risk areas. Recently, researchers have used species distribution modeling (SDM) to predict the occurrence of target plant and animal species based on various environmental variables. In this study, we applied this technique to predict and map the occurrence probability of a soil-borne disease, Verticillium wilt, using cabbage as a case study. Methods A disease survey assessing the distribution of Verticillium wilt in cabbage fields in Tsumagoi village (central Honshu, Japan) was conducted two or three times annually from 1997 to 2013. Road density, elevation and topographic wetness index (TWI) were selected as explanatory variables for disease occurrence potential. A model of occurrence probability of Verticillium wilt was constructed using the MaxEnt software for SDM analysis. As the disease survey was mainly conducted in an agricultural area, the area was weighted as “Bias Grid” and area except for the agricultural area was set as background. Results Grids with disease occurrence showed a high degree of coincidence with those with a high probability occurrence. The highest contribution to the prediction of disease occurrence was the variable road density at 97.1%, followed by TWI at 2.3%, and elevation at 0.5%. The highest permutation importance was road density at 93.0%, followed by TWI at 7.0%, while the variable elevation at 0.0%. This method of predicting disease probability occurrence can help with disease monitoring in areas with high probability occurrence and inform farmers about the selection of control measures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The development of pneumonia following bronchoscopy is a very important post-bronchoscopic complication, while lung abscesses after bronchoscopy are rare. However, bronchoscopic techniques have advanced, and recently, we have observed patients with lung abscess after bronchoscopy. Therefore, the risk factors might vary from those in past reports. This study was performed to identify the incidence of and risk factors for post-bronchoscopy respiratory infections. METHODS We retrospectively studied adult patients diagnosed with lung cancer by bronchoscopy at Fukujuji Hospital from January 2017 to June 2019. The infection and noninfection groups were compared. The incidence of lung abscess was compared between recent periods and 2013, when endobronchial ultrasonography with a guide sheath (EBUS-GS) was not yet used in our hospital. RESULTS We reviewed 327 patients, including 20 patients (6.1%) with infections. The risk factors for infection were necrosis and/or a cavity in the tumor (p < 0.001), a large tumor diameter (≥30 mm) (p = 0.010), and a low serum albumin level (<4.0 g/dL) (p = 0.010). We developed a predictive score with these risk factors, and the area under the curve was 0.737 (95% Cl: 0.610-0.864). No significant differences in age, current smoking status, or abnormal bronchoscopic findings were observed, although these were previously reported as risk factors. In total, 12 patients had lung abscesses (3.7%), which is a higher incidence than that in 2013 (0.8%). CONCLUSIONS The risk factors for developing post-bronchoscopy respiratory infection in our study varied from those in past reports, possibly because of the advancements in bronchoscopic techniques, such as EBUS-GS.

Abstract
Mycobacterium europaeum (M. europaeum) was recently identified as a nontuberculous mycobacterium belonging to the Mycobacterium simiae complex. There have been only a few reported cases of M. europaeum lung disease, all of which occurred in patients with immunodeficiency or prior lung disease. We herein report a case of M. europaeum lung disease in an otherwise healthy Japanese individual. A 70-year-old woman who had no apparent immunodeficiency or medical history was diagnosed with M. europaeum lung disease by multiple positive sputum cultures. The patient was successfully treated with clarithromycin, rifampin, ethambutol, and amikacin. This report is the first case of M. europaeum lung disease occurring in an individual without predisposing risk factors.

Abstract
Land use change could affect not only local species richness but also community assemblies. Essentially, the possible patterns of plant community assemblies are nonrandom species loss (nestedness) and species turnover. Plant community assemblies in human-mediated land use have a combination of both nestedness and turnover. This is because of historical effects that cause nonrandom species loss due to previous and/or original habitat quality and because of direct effects of human activities that cause species turnover. We investigated the complexity of the process of plant community assemblage in a paddy field, which is a typical agricultural land use in the monsoon season in central Japan. Using multi-temporal plant monitoring records, we tested the relationship between the ratio of species nestedness/turnover through multi-temporal and both the original habitat conditions and the extent of human modification. The findings revealed that paddy fields that originated from wetland habitat had a high nestedness ratio, whereas paddy fields that were largely consolidated had a high turnover ratio. Thus, we could divide the community assembly processes in human-mediated land use based on original habitat conditions and human activities. This concept could help land managers establish conservation and/or restoration plans that take into account community assembly.

Abstract
The housing types (HST) in which dairy cows are kept and the feeding systems (FDS) used differ among farmers in Japan. Here, we investigated the genetic relationships among conception rate at first insemination (CR) and milk production traits (PROD) during the first 3 lactations of Holstein cows by using a multiple-trait model that considered the trait values of herds with different HST [tiestall (TSL) barn, freestall (FS) barn, or grazing (GZ)] and FDS as separate traits. Milk production and conception records of Holstein cows in the Hokkaido region of Japan (283,611 records for first lactation, 253,902 for second, and 181,197 for third) were analyzed. We categorized herds with TSL or FS into 2 types of FDS for cows: separate feeding (SF) of roughage plus concentrate or feeding of total mixed ration, in which roughage and concentrates were mixed before feeding. The PROD analyzed were cumulative milk, fat, and protein yields within 305 d and lactation persistency, which we defined as the difference between milk yields at 240 and 60 d in milk. We estimated the heritabilities for CR or PROD within each HST or HST × FDS group and the genetic correlations between these traits within each group or across different groups within each lactation by using a 3-HST (TSL, FS, and GZ) × 2-trait (CR and each PROD) or 2-HST (TSL and FS) × 2-FDS × 2-trait animal model. Heritability estimates for CR in GZ were higher than those in TSL or FS, and genetic correlations for CR between GZ and TSL or FS barns were weaker than those between TSL and FS barns. In addition, genetic correlations between CR and PROD in GZ were weaker than those in TSL and FS barns. In the comparison among the 4 HST × FDS except GZ, heritability estimates for CR in FS × SF were higher than those in the others, and genetic correlations for CR between FS × SF and the other systems were relatively weak. These results indicated that differences in the production system for Holstein cows influence genotypic effects in terms of the cows' ability to conceive and the genetic relationships between fertility traits and milk production traits.

Abstract
Conservation for both biodiversity and ecosystem services are an important issue worldwide. However, knowledge of their relationship remains limited. As habitat structure is strongly related to regional biodiversity, we studied cultural ecosystem services by using habitat structure as a proxy for biodiversity. Specifically, we used human preference, assessed by using photos with location information (i.e. geo-tagged digital pictures) as an index of a cultural ecosystem service. We conducted nature walks in semi-natural environments for cognitively-impaired students from a local special school and studied the photos they took during the walks. We analysed the habitat preferences inferred from the photo locations and the composition of the photos—whether they were close-up, scenic or landscape views. The results showed that levels of human preference and biodiversity, indicated by habitat structure, had a positive relationship. During spring to autumn, when levels of biological activity are higher, people tended to show more preference in close-up views (i.e. the subject of the photo was the species itself). In winter, they tended to be interested in scenic views that were not strongly influenced by species diversity. Additionally, photos taken in areas with threatened species almost always included close-up views, although not of the threatened species themselves. Areas with high species diversity therefore appeared to be more appealing to the participants. These results suggest that habitat diversity could not only contribute to biodiversity, but also provide cultural ecosystem services. Habitat conservation for semi-natural environments could be synergised for both biodiversity conservation and general human well-being.

Abstract
This is a histopathologic and endocrinologic study of 6 calves diagnosed with cryptorchidism. Cases 1-3 were diagnosed as resembling testicular regression syndrome. In cases 1 and 2, the extracted tissue was a small, firm, gray-white mass, and there was lack of obvious testicular tissue in case 3. Histopathologically, the excised tissue in cases 1-3 was a fibrotic testicular remnant with inflammation, mineralization, hemosiderin-laden macrophages or lipofuscin-laden macrophages, and lack of germ cells and interstitial endocrine cells. These findings were compared with cases 4-6, which were diagnosed as testicular hypoplasia due to cryptorchidism. These cases had small but otherwise grossly unremarkable intra-abdominal testicular tissue and histologically had a few germ cells and sustentacular cells with arrested spermatogenesis and an increase in interstitial endocrine cells. Cases 1-3 had more severe degenerative changes compared with cases 4-6. In case 2, the average diameter of the seminiferous tubules was much smaller than in cases 4-6, and there were few tubule cross sections. Anti-Müllerian hormone (214 pg/ml) was detected in the plasma of case 2. Based on the macroscopic and histopathologic findings as well as endocrinologic profiles, the testicular degeneration in cases 1-3 was considered similar to that of testicular regression syndrome. In this condition, it is thought that a normally developing intra-abdominal testis undergoes degeneration due to heat or a vascular disorder such as torsion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Aiming to achieve long-term disease control, maintenance systemic chemotherapy (MSC) with a 1-3-month drug-free interval is continued in selected patients. We report our experience of MSC for metastatic urothelial carcinoma (UC). METHODS Of 228 metastatic UC patients treated with systemic chemotherapy, 40 (17.5%, 40/228) had continuously undergone MSC. Data on the regimen, cycle number, and reason for the discontinuation of MSC were also collected. We analyzed OS from the initiation of MSC until death or the last follow-up, using the log-rank test to assess the significance of differences. RESULTS The median number of cycles of chemotherapy was 6, and the responses were CR in 6, PR in 20, SD in 13, and PD in 1 before MSC. Gemcitabine plus CDDP or carboplatin was mainly performed as MSC (70%, 28/40). MSC was repeated quarterly in 30 (75%, 30/40), every two months in 8 (20%, 8/40), and with other intervals in 2 (5%, 2/40). Overall, a median of 3.5 cycles (range: 1-29) of MSC was performed. The reason for the discontinuation of MSC was PD in 24 (60%, 24/40), favorable disease control in 9 (22.5%, 9/40), and myelosuppression in 3 (7.5%, 3/40), and for other reasons in 2 (5%, 2/40). MSC was ongoing in 2 (5%, 2/40). The median OS was 27 months from the initiation of MSC. PS0 (P = 0.0169), the absence of lung metastasis (P = 0.0387), and resection of the primary site (P = 0.0495) were associated with long-term survival after MSC. CONCLUSIONS In selected patients, long-term systemic chemotherapy could be performed with a drug-free interval. Our maintenance strategy with cytotoxic drugs may become one of the treatment options for long-term disease control.

Cardiovascular surgery is a highly invasive intervention that is often performed in elderly patients at risks of complications because of malnutrition and reduced immunity. This study investigated nutritional factors that affected length of hospital stay in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery. Among 68 patients who underwent surgery at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of Gifu Municipal Hospital between April 2013 and March 2015, 55 with complete data were included in the analysis. Data on serum albumin (ALB), transferrin (Tf), pre-albumin (PA) and retinol binding protein (RBP) levels were collected. The median length of hospital stay was 29 days (stays of ≥30 days were considered long-term hospitalization). Multivariate analysis (multiple logistic regression) included age (≥ 65 years), sex (female), and ALB (≤ 3.0 g/dL), Tf (≤ 150.0 mg/dL), PA (≤ 10.0 mg/dL) and RBP (≤ 1.5 mg/dL) levels. ALB [odds ratio (OR) 10.37, 95% CI (confidence interval): 1.185-90.80, P = 0.035] and Tf [OR 4.743, 95% CI: 1.375-16.36, P = 0.014] were significantly associated with length of hospital stay. Nutritional management of patients and careful monitoring of ALB and Tf levels can shorten length of hospital stay in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery.

Abstract
A Japanese Black cow was evaluated for prolonged post-partum anestrus and enlargement of the right ovary. Transrectal ultrasonography revealed that the right ovary was markedly enlarged and had a solid appearance, while the left ovary was small and inactive. The presumptive diagnosis was directed towards granulosa-theca cell tumour (GTCT) which was supported by markedly elevated plasma anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH; 332.0 ng/ml), oestradiol (E2 ; 103.3 pg/ml) and immunoreactive inhibin (ir-INH; 2.1 ng/ml) in comparison with the diagnostic cut-off points for bovine GTCTs. Since the cow had been infertile and had swelling of the udder, slaughter was chosen. Histopathological examination revealed that the tumour was an ovarian sex cord-stromal tumour (SCST) with a Sertoli cell pattern. These findings suggest that plasma AMH, ir-INH and E2 could be possible biomarkers for bovine ovarian SCST with a Sertoli cell pattern, whereas this case could not be distinguished from GTCTs based on endocrinological profile.
