Unveiling dissociation mechanisms and binding patterns in the UHRF1-DPPA3 complex via multi-replica molecular dynamics simulations

CONTEXT

Ubiquitin-like with PHD and RING finger domain containing protein 1 (UHRF1) is responsible for preserving the stability of genomic methylation through the recruitment of DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1). However, the interaction between Developmental pluripotency associated 3 (DPPA3) and the pre-PHD-PHD (PPHD) domain of UHRF1 hinders the nuclear localization of UHRF1. This disruption has implications for potential cancer treatment strategies. Drugs that mimic the binding pattern between DPPA3 and PPHD could offer a promising approach to cancer treatment. Our study reveals that DPPA3 undergoes dissociation from the C-terminal through three different modes of helix unfolding. Furthermore, we have identified key residue pairs involved in this dissociation process and potential drug-targeting residues. These findings offer valuable insights into the dissociation mechanism of DPPA3 from PPHD and have the potential to inform the design of novel drugs targeting UHRF1 for cancer therapy.

METHODS

To comprehend the dissociation process and binding patterns of PPHD-DPPA3, we employed enhanced sampling techniques, including steered molecular dynamics (SMD) and conventional molecular dynamics (cMD). Additionally, we utilized self-organizing maps (SOM) and time-resolved force distribution analysis (TRFDA) methodologies. The Gromacs software was used for performing molecular dynamics simulations, and the AMBER FF14SB force field was applied to the protein.

Insights into the Dissociation Process and Binding Pattern of the BRCT7/8-PHF8 Complex

DNA topoisomerase 2-binding protein 1 (Topbp1) plays a crucial role in activating the ataxia-telangiectasia mutated and rad3-related (ATR) complex to initiate DNA damage repair responses. For this process to occur, it is necessary for PHF8 to dissociate from Topbp1. Topbp1 binds to the acidic patch sequence (APS) of PHF8 through its C-terminal BRCT7/8 domain, and disrupting this interaction could be a promising strategy for cancer treatment. To investigate the dissociation process and binding pattern of BRCT7/8-PHF8, we employed enhanced sampling techniques, such as steered molecular dynamics (SMD) simulations and accelerated molecular dynamics (aMD) simulations, along with self-organizing maps (SOM) and time-resolved force distribution analysis (TRFDA) methodologies. Our results demonstrate that the dissociation of PHF8 from BRCT7/8 starts from the N-terminus, leading to the unfolding of the N-terminal helix. Additionally, we identified critical residues that play a pivotal role in this dissociation process. These findings provide valuable insights into the disassociation of PHF8 from BRCT7/8, which could potentially guide the development of novel drugs targeting Topbp1 for cancer therapy.

DNA Family: Boosting Weight-Sharing NAS With Block-Wise Supervisions

Neural Architecture Search (NAS), aiming at automatically designing neural architectures by machines, has been considered a key step toward automatic machine learning. One notable NAS branch is the weight-sharing NAS, which significantly improves search efficiency and allows NAS algorithms to run on ordinary computers. Despite receiving high expectations, this category of methods suffers from low search effectiveness. By employing a generalization boundedness tool, we demonstrate that the devil behind this drawback is the untrustworthy architecture rating with the oversized search space of the possible architectures. Addressing this problem, we modularize a large search space into blocks with small search spaces and develop a family of models with the distilling neural architecture (DNA) techniques. These proposed models, namely a DNA family, are capable of resolving multiple dilemmas of the weight-sharing NAS, such as scalability, efficiency, and multi-modal compatibility. Our proposed DNA models can rate all architecture candidates, as opposed to previous works that can only access a sub- search space using heuristic algorithms. Moreover, under a certain computational complexity constraint, our method can seek architectures with different depths and widths. Extensive experimental evaluations show that our models achieve state-of-the-art top-1 accuracy of 78.9% and 83.6% on ImageNet for a mobile convolutional network and a small vision transformer, respectively. Additionally, we provide in-depth empirical analysis and insights into neural architecture ratings.

Theoretical and practical investigation of ion-ion association in electrolyte solutions

In this study, we present a new equation of state for electrolyte solutions, integrating the statistical associating fluid theory for variable range interactions utilizing the generic Mie form and binding Debye-Hückel theories. This equation of state underscores the pivotal role of ion-ion association in determining the properties of electrolyte solutions. We propose a unified framework that simultaneously examines the thermodynamic properties of electrolyte solutions and their electrical conductivity, given the profound impact of ion pairing on this transport property. Using this equation of state, we predict the liquid density, mean ionic activity coefficient, and osmotic coefficient for binary NaCl, Na2SO4, and MgSO4 aqueous solutions at 298.15 K. Additionally, we evaluate the molar conductivity of these systems by considering the fraction of free ions derived from our equation of state in conjunction with two advanced electrical conductivity models. Our results reveal that, while ion-ion association has a minimal influence on the modification of the predicted properties of sodium chloride solutions, their impact on sodium and magnesium sulfate solutions is considerably more noticeable.

[Establishment and application of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma organoid models]

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC) refers to cholangiocarcinomas originating from the secondary bile ducts within the liver and their branches.As a prevalent malignancy of the liver,the diagnosis and treatment of ICC pose significant challenges due to the high heterogeneity of the tumor and its propensity to develop drug resistance.Traditional drug screening and tumor mechanism studies have been confined to two-dimensional cell line cultures and patient-derived xenograft(PDX) models.However,cell lines cannot fully recapitulate the tumor heterogeneity,and PDX models have limitations such as high costs and time consumption,making them less practical for widespread clinical application.To address the limitations of these models,organoid models have been developed based on two-dimensional cell cultures.Organoid models combine the advantages of both aforementioned culture methods and offer unique strengths in cancer research.They provide a new perspective for studying the development and treatment of tumors. In this review, the focus is primarily on the latest advances in the field of organoids of ICC,with a particular emphasis on existing culture protocols and their potential applications in precision medicine and the establishment of biobanks.

Amplitude Analysis of the B^{0}→K^{*0}μ^{+}μ^{-} Decay

An amplitude analysis of the B^{0}→K^{*0}μ^{+}μ^{-} decay is presented using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7  fb^{-1} of pp collision data collected with the LHCb experiment. For the first time, the coefficients associated to short-distance physics effects, sensitive to processes beyond the standard model, are extracted directly from the data through a q^{2}-unbinned amplitude analysis, where q^{2} is the μ^{+}μ^{-} invariant mass squared. Long-distance contributions, which originate from nonfactorizable QCD processes, are systematically investigated, and the most accurate assessment to date of their impact on the physical observables is obtained. The pattern of measured corrections to the short-distance couplings is found to be consistent with previous analyses of b- to s-quark transitions, with the largest discrepancy from the standard model predictions found to be at the level of 1.8 standard deviations. The global significance of the observed differences in the decay is 1.4 standard deviations.

Observation of Cabibbo-Suppressed Two-Body Hadronic Decays and Precision Mass Measurement of the Ω_{c}^{0} Baryon

The first observation of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed Ω_{c}^{0}→Ω^{-}K^{+} and Ω_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+} decays is reported, using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb^{-1}, collected with the LHCb detector between 2016 and 2018. The branching fraction ratios are measured to be B(Ω_{c}^{0}→Ω^{-}K^{+})/B(Ω_{c}^{0}→Ω^{-}π^{+})=[6.08±0.51(stat)±0.40(syst)]%,B(Ω_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+})/B(Ω_{c}^{0}→Ω^{-}π^{+})=[15.81±0.87(stat)±0.44(syst)±0.16(ext)]%. In addition, using the Ω_{c}^{0}→Ω^{-}π^{+} decay channel, the Ω_{c}^{0} baryon mass is measured to be M(Ω_{c}^{0})=2695.28±0.07(stat)±0.27(syst)±0.30(ext)  MeV, improving the precision of the previous world average by a factor of 4.

Enhanced Production of Λ_{b}^{0} Baryons in High-Multiplicity pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV

The production rate of Λ_{b}^{0} baryons relative to B^{0} mesons in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s]=13  TeV is measured by the LHCb experiment. The ratio of Λ_{b}^{0} to B^{0} production cross sections shows a significant dependence on both the transverse momentum and the measured charged-particle multiplicity. At low multiplicity, the ratio measured at LHCb is consistent with the value measured in e^{+}e^{-} collisions, and increases by a factor of ∼2 with increasing multiplicity. At relatively low transverse momentum, the ratio of Λ_{b}^{0} to B^{0} cross sections is higher than what is measured in e^{+}e^{-} collisions, but converges with the e^{+}e^{-} ratio as the momentum increases. These results imply that the evolution of heavy b quarks into final-state hadrons is influenced by the density of the hadronic environment produced in the collision. Comparisons with several models and implications for the mechanisms enforcing quark confinement are discussed.

Improved Measurement of CP Violation Parameters in B_{s}^{0}→J/ψK^{+}K^{-} Decays in the Vicinity of the ϕ(1020) Resonance

The decay-time-dependent CP asymmetry in B_{s}^{0}→J/ψ(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K^{+}K^{-} decays is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb^{-1}, collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Using a sample of approximately 349 000 B_{s}^{0} signal decays with an invariant K^{+}K^{-} mass in the vicinity of the ϕ(1020) resonance, the CP-violating phase ϕ_{s} is measured, along with the difference in decay widths of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the B_{s}^{0}-B[over ¯]_{s}^{0} system, ΔΓ_{s}, and the difference of the average B_{s}^{0} and B^{0} meson decay widths, Γ_{s}-Γ_{d}. The values obtained are ϕ_{s}=-0.039±0.022±0.006  rad, ΔΓ_{s}=0.0845±0.0044±0.0024  ps^{-1}, and Γ_{s}-Γ_{d}=-0.0056_{-0.0015}^{+0.0013}±0.0014  ps^{-1}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These are the most precise single measurements to date and are consistent with expectations based on the Standard Model and with the previous LHCb analyses of this decay. These results are combined with previous independent LHCb measurements. The phase ϕ_{s} is also measured independently for each polarization state of the K^{+}K^{-} system and shows no evidence for polarization dependence.

[Single - nucleotide polymorphisms of artemisinin resistance - related Pfubp1 and Pfap2mu genes in Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea from 2018 to 2020]

OBJECTIVE

To investigate the prevalence of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of artemisinin resistance-related Pfubp1 and Pfap2mu genes in Plasmodium falciparum isolates from Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea, so as to to provide baseline data for the formulation of malaria control strategies in Bioko Island.

METHODS

A total of 184 clinical blood samples were collected from patients with P. falciparum malaria in Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea from 2018 to 2020, and genomic DNA was extracted. The Pfubp1 and Pfap2mu gene SNPs of P. falciparum were determined using a nested PCR assay and Sanger sequencing, and the gene sequences were aligned.

RESULTS

There were 159 wild-type P. falciparum isolates (88.83%) from Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea, and 6 SNPs were identified in 20 Pfubp1-mutant P. falciparum isolates (11.17%), in which 4 non-synonymous mutations were detected, including E1516G, K1520E, D1525E, E1528D. There was only one Pfubp1gene mutation site in 19 Pfubp1-mutant P. falciparum isolates (95.00%), in which non-synonymous mutations accounted for 68.42% (13/19). D1525E and E1528D were identified as major known epidemic mutation sites in the Pfubp1 gene associated with resistance to artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs). At amino acid position 1525, there were 178 wild-type P. falciparum isolates (99.44%) and 1 mutant isolate (0.56%), with such a mutation site identified in blood samples in 2018, and at amino acid position 1528, there were 167 wild-type P. falciparum isolates (93.30%) and 12 mutant isolates (6.70%). The proportions of wild-type P. falciparum isolates were 95.72% (134/140), 79.25% (126/159) and 95.83% (161/168) in the target amplification fragments of the three regions in the Pfap2mu gene (Pfap2mu-inner1, Pfap2mu-inner2, Pfap2mu-inner3), respectively. There were 16 different SNPs identified in all successfully sequenced P. falciparum isolates, in which 7 non-synonymous mutations were detected, including S160N, K199T, A475V, S508G, I511M, L595F, and Y603H. There were 7 out of 43 Pfap2mu-mutant P. falciparum isolates (16.28%) that harbored only one gene mutation site, in which non-synonymous mutations accounted for 28.57% (2/7). For the known delayed clearance locus S160N associated with ACTs, there were 143 wild-type (89.94%) and 16 Pfap2mu-mutant P. falciparum isolates (10.06%).

CONCLUSIONS

Both Pfubp1 and Pfap2mu gene mutations were detected in P. falciparum isolates from Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea from 2018 to 2020, with a low prevalence rate of Pfubp1 gene mutation and a high prevalence rate of Pfap2mu gene mutation. In addition, new mutation sites were identified in the Pfubp1 (E1504E and K1520E) and Pfap2mu genes (A475V and S508G).

Prototypical Graph Contrastive Learning

Graph-level representations are critical in various real-world applications, such as predicting the properties of molecules. However, in practice, precise graph annotations are generally very expensive and time-consuming. To address this issue, graph contrastive learning constructs an instance discrimination task, which pulls together positive pairs (augmentation pairs of the same graph) and pushes away negative pairs (augmentation pairs of different graphs) for unsupervised representation learning. However, since for a query, its negatives are uniformly sampled from all graphs, existing methods suffer from the critical sampling bias issue, i.e., the negatives likely having the same semantic structure with the query, leading to performance degradation. To mitigate this sampling bias issue, in this article, we propose a prototypical graph contrastive learning (PGCL) approach. Specifically, PGCL models the underlying semantic structure of the graph data via clustering semantically similar graphs into the same group and simultaneously encourages the clustering consistency for different augmentations of the same graph. Then, given a query, it performs negative sampling via drawing the graphs from those clusters that differ from the cluster of query, which ensures the semantic difference between query and its negative samples. Moreover, for a query, PGCL further reweights its negative samples based on the distance between their prototypes (cluster centroids) and the query prototype such that those negatives having moderate prototype distance enjoy relatively large weights. This reweighting strategy is proven to be more effective than uniform sampling. Experimental results on various graph benchmarks testify the advantages of our PGCL over state-of-the-art methods. Measurement of CP Violation in B^{0}→ψ(→ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-})K_{S}^{0}(→π^{+}π^{-}) Decays

A measurement of time-dependent CP violation in the decays of B^{0} and B[over ¯]^{0} mesons to the final states J/ψ(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K_{S}^{0}, ψ(2S)(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K_{S}^{0} and J/ψ(→e^{+}e^{-})K_{S}^{0} with K_{S}^{0}→π^{+}π^{-} is presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13  TeV with the LHCb detector. The CP-violation parameters are measured to be S_{ψK_{S}^{0}}=0.717±0.013(stat)±0.008(syst) and C_{ψK_{S}^{0}}=0.008±0.012(stat)±0.003(syst). This measurement of S_{ψK_{S}^{0}} represents the most precise single measurement of the CKM angle β to date and is more precise than the current world average. In addition, measurements of the CP-violation parameters of the individual channels are reported and a combination with the LHCb Run 1 measurements is performed.

[Establishment and validation of nomogram prediction model for complicated acute appendicitis]

Objective: To establish and internally validate a nomogram model for predicting complicated acute appendicitis (CA). Methods: The clinical data from 663 acute appendicitis patients from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from October 2015 to October 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 411 males and 252 females, aged (M (IQR)) 41 (22) years (range: 18 to 84 years). There were 516 cases of CA and 147 cases of uncomplicated acute appendicitis. The minimum absolute contraction and selection operator regression model was used to screen the potential relative factors of CA, and the screened factors were included in the Logistic regression model for multivariate analysis. Software R was used to establish a preoperative CA nomogram prediction model, the receiver operating characteristic curve of the model was drawn, and the value of area under the curve (AUC) was compared to evaluate its identification ability, and the Bootstrap method was used for internal verification. Results: The elderly (age≥60 years) (OR=2.428, 95%CI: 1.295 to 4.549), abdominal pain time (every rise of 1 hour) (OR=1.089, 95%CI: 1.072 to 1.107), high fever (body temperature≥39 ℃) (OR=1.122, 95%CI: 1.078 to 1.168), total bilirubin (every rise of 1 μmol/L) (OR=2.629, 95%CI: 1.227 to 5.635) were independent relative factors of CA (all P<0.05). The AUC of this model was 0.935 (95%CI: 0.915 to 0.956). After internal verification using the Bootstrap method, the model still had a high discrimination ability (AUC=0.933), and the predicted CA curve was still in good agreement with the actual clinical CA curve. Conclusion: The clinical prediction model based on the elderly (age≥60 years), prolonged abdominal pain time, high fever (body temperature≥39 ℃), and increased total bilirubin can help clinicians effectively identify CA.

[Diagnostic values of conventional tumor markers and their combination with chest CT for patients with stageⅠA lung cancer]

Objective: To investigate the diagnostic efficiency of conventional serum tumor markers and their combination with chest CT for stage ⅠA lung cancer. Methods: A total of 1 155 patients with stage ⅠA lung cancer and 200 patients with benign lung lesions (confirmed by surgery) treated at the Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from January 2016 to October 2020 were retrospectively enrolled in this study. Six conventional serum tumor markers [carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125), squamous cell carcinoma associated antigen (SCCA), cytokeratin 19 fragment (CYFRA21-1), neuron-specific enolase (NSE), and gastrin-releasing peptide precursor (ProGRP)] and chest thin-slice CT were performed on all patients one month before surgery. Pathology was taken as the gold standard to analyze the difference of positivity rates of tumor markers between the lung cancer group and the benign group, the moderate/poor differentiation group and the well differentiation group, the adenocarcinoma group and the squamous cell carcinoma group, the lepidic and non-lepidic predominant adenocarcinoma groups, the solid nodule group and the subsolid nodule group based on thin-slice CT, and subgroups of ⅠA1 to ⅠA3 lung cancers. The diagnostic performance of tumor markers and tumor markers combined with chest CT was analyzed using the receiver operating characteristic curve. Results: The positivity rates of six serum tumor markers in the lung cancer group and the benign group were 2.32%-20.08% and 0-13.64%, respectively; only the SCCA positivity rate in the lung cancer group was higher than that in the benign group (10.81% and 0, P=0.022). There were no significant differences in the positivity rates of other serum tumor markers between the two groups (all P>0.05). The combined detection of six tumor markers showed that the positivity rate of the lung cancer group was higher than that of the benign group (40.93% and 18.18%, P=0.004), and the positivity rate of the adenocarcinoma group was lower than that of the squamous cell carcinoma group (35.66% and 47.41%, P=0.045). The positivity rates in the poorly differentiated group and moderately differentiated group were higher than that in the well differentiated group (46.48%, 43.75% and 22.73%, P=0.025). The positivity rate in the non-lepidic adenocarcinoma group was higher than that in lepidic adenocarcinoma group (39.51% and 21.74%, P=0.001). The positivity rate of subsolid nodules was lower than that of solid nodules (30.01% vs 58.71%, P=0.038), and the positivity rates of stageⅠA1, ⅠA2 and ⅠA3 lung cancers were 33.33%, 48.96% and 69.23%, respectively, showing an increasing trend (P=0.005). The sensitivity and specificity of the combined detection of six tumor markers in the diagnosis of stage ⅠA lung cancer were 74.00% and 56.30%, respectively, and the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.541. The sensitivity and specificity of the combined detection of six serum tumor markers with CT in the diagnosis of stage ⅠA lung cancer were 83.0% and 78.3%, respectively, and the AUC was 0.721. Conclusions: For stage ⅠA lung cancer, the positivity rates of commonly used clinical tumor markers are generally low. The combined detection of six markers can increase the positivity rate. The positivity rate of markers tends to be higher in poorly differentiated lung cancer, squamous cell carcinoma, or solid nodules. Tumor markers combined with thin-slice CT showed limited improvement in diagnostic efficiency for early lung cancer.

Hyperon Polarization along the Beam Direction Relative to the Second and Third Harmonic Event Planes in Isobar Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV

The polarization of Λ and Λ[over ¯] hyperons along the beam direction has been measured relative to the second and third harmonic event planes in isobar Ru+Ru and Zr+Zr collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200  GeV. This is the first experimental evidence of the hyperon polarization by the triangular flow originating from the initial density fluctuations. The amplitudes of the sine modulation for the second and third harmonic results are comparable in magnitude, increase from central to peripheral collisions, and show a mild p_{T} dependence. The azimuthal angle dependence of the polarization follows the vorticity pattern expected due to elliptic and triangular anisotropic flow, and qualitatively disagrees with most hydrodynamic model calculations based on thermal vorticity and shear induced contributions. The model results based on one of existing implementations of the shear contribution lead to a correct azimuthal angle dependence, but predict centrality and p_{T} dependence that still disagree with experimental measurements. Thus, our results provide stringent constraints on the thermal vorticity and shear-induced contributions to hyperon polarization. Comparison to previous measurements at RHIC and the LHC for the second-order harmonic results shows little dependence on the collision system size and collision energy.

Entity-Graph Enhanced Cross-Modal Pretraining for Instance-Level Product Retrieval

Our goal in this research is to study a more realistic environment in which we can conduct weakly-supervised multi-modal instance-level product retrieval for fine-grained product categories. We first contribute the Product1M datasets and define two real practical instance-level retrieval tasks that enable evaluations on price comparison and personalized recommendations. For both instance-level tasks, accurately identifying the intended product target mentioned in visual-linguistic data and mitigating the impact of irrelevant content are quite challenging. To address this, we devise a more effective cross-modal pretraining model capable of adaptively incorporating key concept information from multi-modal data. This is accomplished by utilizing an entity graph, where nodes represented entities and edges denoted the similarity relations between them. Specifically, a novel Entity-Graph Enhanced Cross-Modal Pretraining (EGE-CMP) model is proposed for instance-level commodity retrieval, which explicitly injects entity knowledge in both node-based and subgraph-based ways into the multi-modal networks via a self-supervised hybrid-stream transformer. This could reduce the confusion between different object contents, thereby effectively guiding the network to focus on entities with real semantics. Experimental results sufficiently verify the efficacy and generalizability of our EGE-CMP, outperforming several SOTA cross-modal baselines like CLIP Radford et al. 2021, UNITER Chen et al. 2020 and CAPTURE Zhan et al. 2021.

Towards Causality-Aware Inferring: A Sequential Discriminative Approach for Medical Diagnosis

Medical diagnosis assistant (MDA) aims to build an interactive diagnostic agent to sequentially inquire about symptoms for discriminating diseases. However, since the dialogue records for building a patient simulator are collected passively, the collected records might be deteriorated by some task-unrelated biases, such as the preference of the collectors. These biases might hinder the diagnostic agent to capture transportable knowledge from the simulator. This work identifies and resolves two representative non-causal biases, i.e., (i) default-answer bias and (ii) distributional inquiry bias. Specifically, Bias (i) originates from the patient simulator which tries to answer the unrecorded inquiries with some biased default answers. To eliminate this bias and improve upon a well-known causal inference technique, i.e., propensity score matching, we propose a novel propensity latent matching in building a patient simulator to effectively answer unrecorded inquiries; Bias (ii) inherently comes along with the passively collected data that the agent might learn by remembering what to inquire within the training data while not able to generalize to the out-of-distribution cases. To this end, we propose a progressive assurance agent, which includes the dual processes accounting for symptom inquiry and disease diagnosis respectively. The diagnosis process pictures the patient mentally and probabilistically by intervention to eliminate the effect of the inquiry behavior. And the inquiry process is driven by the diagnosis process to inquire about symptoms to enhance the diagnostic confidence which alters as the patient distribution changes. In this cooperative manner, our proposed agent can improve upon the out-of-distribution generalization significantly. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our framework achieves new state-of-the-art performance and possesses the advantage of transportability.

Observation of New Baryons in the Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-} and Ξ_{b}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} Systems

The first observation and study of two new baryonic structures in the final state Ξ_{b}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} and the confirmation of the Ξ_{b}(6100)^{-} state in the Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-} decay mode are reported using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}. In addition, the properties of the known Ξ_{b}^{*0}, Ξ_{b}^{'-} and Ξ_{b}^{*-} resonances are measured with improved precision. The new decay mode of the Ξ_{b}^{0} baryon to the Ξ_{c}^{+} π^{-} π^{+} π^{-} final state is observed and exploited for the first time in these measurements.

Precision Measurement of CP Violation in the Penguin-Mediated Decay B_{s}^{0}→ϕϕ

A flavor-tagged time-dependent angular analysis of the decay B_{s}^{0}→ϕϕ is performed using pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at the center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb^{-1}. The CP-violating phase and direct CP-violation parameter are measured to be ϕ_{s}^{ss[over ¯]s}=-0.042±0.075±0.009  rad and |λ|=1.004±0.030±0.009, respectively, assuming the same values for all polarization states of the ϕϕ system. In these results, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These parameters are also determined separately for each polarization state, showing no evidence for polarization dependence. The results are combined with previous LHCb measurements using pp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding ϕ_{s}^{ss[over ¯]s}=-0.074±0.069  rad and |λ|=1.009±0.030. This is the most precise study of time-dependent CP violation in a penguin-dominated B meson decay. The results are consistent with CP symmetry and with the standard model predictions.

Binding Debye-Hückel theory for associative electrolyte solutions

This study presents a new equation of state (EOS) for charged hard sphere fluids that incorporates ion-ion association. The EOS is developed using the Debye-Hückel (DH) theory, reference cavity approximation, and Wertheim's theory. Predictive accuracy is evaluated by comparing the model's predictions with Monte Carlo simulations for various charged hard-sphere fluids. The assessment focuses on mean ionic activity coefficient, individual ionic activity coefficient, and osmotic coefficients. The results demonstrate good agreement between the model and simulations, indicating its success for different electrolyte systems. Incorporating ion-ion association improves accuracy compared to the DH theory. The importance of the cavity function and ion-dipole interactions is emphasized in accurately representing structural properties. Overall, the developed EOS shows promising predictive capabilities for charged hard sphere fluids, providing validation and highlighting the significance of ion-ion association in thermodynamic predictions of electrolyte solutions.

Measurement of the Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ(1520)μ^{+}μ^{-} Differential Branching Fraction

The branching fraction of the rare decay Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ(1520)μ^{+}μ^{-} is measured for the first time, in the squared dimuon mass intervals q^{2}, excluding the J/ψ and ψ(2S) regions. The data sample analyzed was collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}. The result in the highest q^{2} interval, q^{2}>15.0  GeV^{2}/c^{4}, where theoretical predictions have the smallest model dependence, agrees with the predictions.

Construction and effect evaluation of prediction model for red blood cell transfusion requirement in cesarean section based on artificial intelligence

OBJECTIVES

This study intends to build an artificial intelligence model for obstetric cesarean section surgery to evaluate the intraoperative blood transfusion volume before operation, and compare the model prediction results with the actual results to evaluate the accuracy of the artificial intelligence prediction model for intraoperative red blood cell transfusion in obstetrics. The advantages and disadvantages of intraoperative blood demand and identification of high-risk groups for blood transfusion provide data support and improvement suggestions for the realization of accurate blood management of obstetric cesarean section patients during the perioperative period.

METHODS

Using a machine learning algorithm, an intraoperative blood transfusion prediction model was trained. The differences between the predicted results and the actual results were compared by means of blood transfusion or not, blood transfusion volume, and blood transfusion volume targeting postoperative hemoglobin (Hb).

RESULTS

Area under curve of the model is 0.89. The accuracy of the model for blood transfusion was 96.85%. The statistical standard for the accuracy of the model blood transfusion volume is the calculation of 1U absolute error, the accuracy rate is 86.56%, and the accuracy rate of the blood transfusion population is 45.00%. In the simulation prediction results, 93.67% of the predicted and actual cases in no blood transfusion surgery; 63.45% of the same predicted blood transfusion in blood transfusion surgery, and only 20.00% of the blood transfusion volume is the same.

CONCLUSIONS

In conclusion, this study used machine learning algorithm to process, analyze and predict the results of a large sample of cesarean section clinical data, and found that the important predictors of blood transfusion during cesarean section included preoperative RBC, surgical method, the site of surgery, coagulation-related indicators, and other factors. At the same time, it was found that the overall accuracy of the AI model was higher than actual blood using. Although the prediction of blood transfusion volume was not well matched with the actual blood using, the model provided a perspective of preoperative identification of high blood transfusion risks. The results can provide good auxiliary decision support for preoperative evaluation of obstetric cesarean section, and then promote the realization of accurate perioperative blood management for obstetric cesarean section patients.

Risk-Adapted SABR for Ultra-Central Lung Tumors Attaining High BED10 to Targets in a Steep Dose-Response Window of 72-105 Gy under Tumor Tracking: A Planning Study

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S)

Higher rate of durable local control in stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) for ultra-central lung tumors (UCLTs) strongly correlates to a BED10 ≥ 100 Gy to the tumors. However, higher rates of grade 5 toxicities are reported to be directly associated with higher dose to the organs at risk (OARs) abutting or in close distance to the UCLTs, including trachea, proximal bronchial tree (PBT) and esophagus. This study evaluated two risk-adapted SABR schemes in a steep dose-response window of BED10 at 72 -105 Gy with isotoxic optimization and dynamic tumor tracking to safely attain high BED10 to the tumors while keeping dose to the OARs within evidence-based tolerances.

MATERIALS/METHODS

A total of 12-16 patients are included for planning under two risk-adapted-SABR schemes of 60 Gy in 8 (scheme A) and15 (scheme B) fractions to attain high BED10 of ≥100 Gy to the distal sections of the PTV and yet potent BED10 at 72-84 Gy to the proximal sections of the PTV. Such inhomogeneous dose plans use a 3-5 mm GTV to PTV margins under a scenario that patients have at least one fiducial marker placed in or near the GTV for real-time tumor tracking on a robotic SRS-SABR system. All plans used fixed cone collimators and a planning tool's dose calculation to reach highest BED10 dose coverage achievable to the target volumes while respecting the OAR dose tolerances, including V105 Gy, V100 Gy, V84 Gy and V72 Gy in BED10 for target volumes and the maximum EQD2 dose tolerances (α/β = 3 Gy) in D0.03cc for the trachea/PBT ≤80.5-82.5 Gy and esophagus ≤64.0-77.6 Gy in scheme-A; and trachea/PBT≤97.7 Gy and esophagus ≤64.3 Gy in scheme-B. Median and range of plan dosimetry metrics are compared between the two schemes.

RESULTS

For scheme-A, mean BED10 to PTV are 118.0 Gy (median) in105.5-133.5 Gy (range), and mean BED10 dose to GTV are 132.2 (118.3-149.4 Gy). EQD2 dose to trachea are 80.5 Gy (68.0-81.7 Gy), PBT 80.5 Gy (49.1-82.2 Gy), esophagus 67.2 Gy (51.6-77.3 Gy). PTV coverage by BED10 of 72 Gy, 84 Gy, 100 Gy and 105 Gy are 98.9% (87.5-100%), 97.1% (81.8-99.8%), 91.9% (72.5-98.6%) and 85.3% (68.5-97.9%). For scheme-B, mean BED10 to PTV are 102.2 Gy (93.4-106.0 Gy), and mean BED10 dose to GTV are 115.4 (103.4-117.3 Gy). EQD2 dose to trachea are 73.3 Gy (67.5-96.3 Gy), PBT 90.9 Gy (74.4-97.2 Gy), esophagus 61.4 Gy (41.9-64.1 Gy). PTV coverage by BED10 of 72 Gy, 84 Gy, 100 Gy and 105 Gy are 100% (94.9-100%), 95.5% (83.9-99.0%), 54.8% (31.2-65.4%) and 42.8% (17.9-53.2%).

CONCLUSION

Two risk-adapted SABR of 7.5 Gyx8 and 4 Gyx15 are implemented for treating ultra-central lung tumors with BED10 ≥100 Gy to the distal sections of PTV and yet attain potent BED10 ≥72-84 Gy to the proximal sections of PTV that abut or overlap with trachea, proximal bronchial tree or esophagus. Accurate dose calculation by a planning tool and real-time tumor tracking are essential for safe and accurate delivery of such high-risk SABR treatments.

Discourse-Aware Graph Networks for Textual Logical Reasoning

Textual logical reasoning, especially question-answering (QA) tasks with logical reasoning, requires awareness of particular logical structures. The passage-level logical relations represent entailment or contradiction between propositional units (e.g., a concluding sentence). However, such structures are unexplored as current QA systems focus on entity-based relations. In this work, we propose logic structural-constraint modeling to solve the logical reasoning QA and introduce discourse-aware graph networks (DAGNs). The networks first construct logic graphs leveraging in-line discourse connectives and generic logic theories, then learn logic representations by end-to-end evolving the logic relations with an edge-reasoning mechanism and updating the graph features. This pipeline is applied to a general encoder, whose fundamental features are joined with the high-level logic features for answer prediction. Experiments on three textual logical reasoning datasets demonstrate the reasonability of the logical structures built in DAGNs and the effectiveness of the learned logic features. Moreover, zero-shot transfer results show the features' generality to unseen logical texts.

Towards Deviation-Robust Agent Navigation via Perturbation-Aware Contrastive Learning

Vision-and-language navigation (VLN) asks an agent to follow a given language instruction to navigate through a real 3D environment. Despite significant advances, conventional VLN agents are trained typically under disturbance-free environments and may easily fail in real-world navigation scenarios, since they are unaware of how to deal with various possible disturbances, such as sudden obstacles or human interruptions, which widely exist and may usually cause an unexpected route deviation. In this paper, we present a model-agnostic training paradigm, called Progressive Perturbation-aware Contrastive Learning (PROPER) to enhance the generalization ability of existing VLN agents to the real world, by requiring them to learn towards deviation-robust navigation. Specifically, a simple yet effective path perturbation scheme is introduced to implement the route deviation, with which the agent is required to still navigate successfully following the original instruction. Since directly enforcing the agent to learn perturbed trajectories may lead to insufficient and inefficient training, a progressively perturbed trajectory augmentation strategy is designed, where the agent can self-adaptively learn to navigate under perturbation with the improvement of its navigation performance for each specific trajectory. For encouraging the agent to well capture the difference brought by perturbation and adapt to both perturbation-free and perturbation-based environments, a perturbation-aware contrastive learning mechanism is further developed by contrasting perturbation-free trajectory encodings and perturbation-based counterparts. Extensive experiments on the standard Room-to-Room (R2R) benchmark show that PROPER can benefit multiple state-of-the-art VLN baselines in perturbation-free scenarios. We further collect the perturbed path data to construct an introspection subset based on the R2R, called Path-Perturbed R2R (PP-R2R). The results on PP-R2R show unsatisfying robustness of popular VLN agents and the capability of PROPER in improving the navigation robustness under deviation.

Microstructure and Biomechanical Properties in Selective Laser Melting of Porous Metal Implants

Two kinds of porous structure design strategies, ring-support (RS) and column-support (CS), are proposed for human implants. The accurate design of porosity is realized by adjusting the pore characteristics, such as strut diameter, pore diameter, and unit size. Porous specimens with porosity of 50%, 60%, 70%, and 80% were prepared by selective laser melting. The three-dimensional pore structure is basically consistent with the design characteristics, and the measured porosity is slightly lower than design value. The microstructure, microhardness, and friction and wear properties of the samples were studied. The results show that the performance along the scanning orientation is slightly better than that along the forming orientation. The compression and dynamic elastic modulus of porous specimens with different structures and porosities were analyzed. The CS porous with 60-80% porosity has suitable compressive strength and elastic modulus, which is close to that of human tissue, and effectively avoids the stress shielding phenomenon.

[Progress in surgical treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma with tumor thrombus in the inferior vena cava]

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is one of the most common malignancies of the digestive system,which is prone to be associated with microvascular or macrovascular invasion. Among them,HCC with inferior vena cava tumor thrombus(IVCTT) or right atrium tumor thrombus(RATT) is rare and has a poor prognosis. However,surgical treatment of HCC with IVCTT and (or) RATT is rarely reported and summarized. The review described the classification of HCC tumor thrombus with IVCTT and (or) RATT, summarized the progress of surgical approaches and surgical operations,and introduced a case of thrombectomy after pushing from the outer surface of the atrium,rendering the RATT to the inferior vena cava under non-cardiopulmonary bypass. The review also proposed the prospective treatments for HCC with IVCTT or RATT,providing clinical guidance to hepatobiliary surgeons.

Observation of New Ω_{c}^{0} States Decaying to the Ξ_{c}^{+}K^{-} Final State

Two new excited states, Ω_{c}(3185)^{0} and Ω_{c}(3327)^{0}, are observed in the Ξ_{c}^{+}K^{-} invariant-mass spectrum using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}. Five previously observed excited Ω_{c}^{0} states are confirmed, namely Ω_{c}(3000)^{0}, Ω_{c}(3050)^{0}, Ω_{c}(3065)^{0}, Ω_{c}(3090)^{0}, and Ω_{c}(3119)^{0}. The masses and widths of these seven states are measured with the highest precision to date.

Evidence of a J/ψK_{S}^{0} Structure in B^{0}→J/ψϕK_{S}^{0} Decays

An amplitude analysis of B^{0}→J/ψϕK_{S}^{0} decays is performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}, collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. Evidence with a significance of 4.0 standard deviations of a structure in the J/ψK_{S}^{0} system, named T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{0}, is seen, with its mass and width measured to be 3991_{-10}^{+12} _{-17}^{+9}  MeV/c^{2} and 105_{-25}^{+29} _{-23}^{+17}  MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{0} state is likely to be the isospin partner of the T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{+} state, previously observed in the J/ψK^{+} system of the B^{+}→J/ψϕK^{+} decay. When isospin symmetry for the charged and neutral T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000) states is assumed, the signal significance increases to 5.4 standard deviations.

Measurement of the Ratios of Branching Fractions R(D^{*}) and R(D^{0})

The ratios of branching fractions R(D^{*})≡B(B[over ¯]→D^{*}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})/B(B[over ¯]→D^{*}μ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ}) and R(D^{0})≡B(B^{-}→D^{0}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})/B(B^{-}→D^{0}μ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ}) are measured, assuming isospin symmetry, using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to 3.0  fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. The tau lepton is identified in the decay mode τ^{-}→μ^{-}ν_{τ}ν[over ¯]_{μ}. The measured values are R(D^{*})=0.281±0.018±0.024 and R(D^{0})=0.441±0.060±0.066, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The correlation between these measurements is ρ=-0.43. The results are consistent with the current average of these quantities and are at a combined 1.9 standard deviations from the predictions based on lepton flavor universality in the standard model.

Measurement of the Prompt D^{0} Nuclear Modification Factor in p-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV

The production of prompt D^{0} mesons in proton-lead collisions in both the forward and backward rapidity regions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16  TeV is measured by the LHCb experiment. The nuclear modification factor of prompt D^{0} mesons is determined as a function of the transverse momentum p_{T}, and the rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass frame y^{*}. In the forward rapidity region, significantly suppressed production with respect to pp collisions is measured, which provides significant constraints on models of nuclear parton distributions and hadron production down to the very low Bjorken-x region of ∼10^{-5}. In the backward rapidity region, a suppression with a significance of 2.0-3.8 standard deviations compared to parton distribution functions in a nuclear environment expectations is found in the kinematic region of p_{T}>6  GeV/c and -3.25 Collapse

Measurement of the Time-Integrated CP Asymmetry in D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} Decays

The time-integrated CP asymmetry in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.7  fb^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. The D^{0} mesons are required to originate from promptly produced D^{*+}→D^{0}π^{+} decays, and the charge of the companion pion is used to determine the flavor of the charm meson at production. The time-integrated CP asymmetry is measured to be A_{CP}(K^{-}K^{+})=[6.8±5.4±1.6]×10^{-4} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The direct CP asymmetries in D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} and D^{0}→π^{-}π^{+} decays, a_{K^{-}K^{+}}^{d} and a_{π^{-}π^{+}}^{d}, are derived by combining A_{CP}(K^{-}K^{+}) with the time-integrated CP asymmetry difference, ΔA_{CP}=A_{CP}(K^{-}K^{+})-A_{CP}(π^{-}π^{+}), and other inputs, giving a_{K^{-}K^{+}}^{d}=(7.7±5.7)×10^{-4},a_{π^{-}π^{+}}^{d}=(23.2±6.1)×10^{-4},with a correlation coefficient corresponding to ρ=0.88. The compatibility of these results with CP symmetry is 1.4 and 3.8 standard deviations for D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} and D^{0}→π^{-}π^{+} decays, respectively. This is the first evidence for direct CP violation in a specific D^{0} decay.

Measurement of the Branching Fractions B(B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯]) and B(B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯])

Searches for the rare hadronic decays B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] and B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] are performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}. Significances of 9.3σ and 4.0σ, including statistical and systematic uncertainties, are obtained for the B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] and B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] signals, respectively. The branching fractions are measured relative to the topologically similar normalization decays B^{0}→J/ψ(→pp[over ¯])K^{*0}(→K^{+}π^{-}) and B_{s}^{0}→J/ψ(→pp[over ¯])⁢ϕ(→K^{+}K^{-}). The branching fractions are measured to be B(B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯])=(2.2±0.4±0.1±0.1)×10^{-8} and B(B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯])=(2.3±1.0±0.2±0.1)×10^{-8}. In these measurements, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third one is due to the external branching fraction of the normalization channel.

Observation of a Resonant Structure near the D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-} Threshold in the B^{+}→D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-}K^{+} Decay

An amplitude analysis of the B^{+}→D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-}K^{+} decay is carried out to study for the first time its intermediate resonant contributions, using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. A near-threshold peaking structure, referred to as X(3960), is observed in the D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-} invariant-mass spectrum with significance greater than 12 standard deviations. The mass, width, and the quantum numbers of the structure are measured to be 3956±5±10  MeV, 43±13±8  MeV, and J^{PC}=0^{++}, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The properties of the new structure are consistent with recent theoretical predictions for a state composed of cc[over ¯]ss[over ¯] quarks. Evidence for an additional structure is found around 4140 MeV in the D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-} invariant mass, which might be caused either by a new resonance with the 0^{++} assignment or by a J/ψϕ↔D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-} coupled-channel effect.

Test of Lepton Universality in b→sℓ^{+}ℓ^{-} Decays

The first simultaneous test of muon-electron universality using B^{+}→K^{+}ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-} and B^{0}→K^{*0}ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-} decays is performed, in two ranges of the dilepton invariant-mass squared, q^{2}. The analysis uses beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}. Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given q^{2} interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements. The results are compatible with the predictions of the Standard Model.

First Observation of a Doubly Charged Tetraquark and Its Neutral Partner

A combined amplitude analysis is performed for the decays B^{0}→D[over ¯]^{0}D_{s}^{+}π^{-} and B^{+}→D^{-}D_{s}^{+}π^{+}, which are related by isospin symmetry. The analysis is based on data collected by the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The full data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}. Two new resonant states with masses of 2.908±0.011±0.020  GeV and widths of 0.136±0.023±0.013  GeV are observed, which decay to D_{s}^{+}π^{+} and D_{s}^{+}π^{-} respectively. The former state indicates the first observation of a doubly charged open-charm tetraquark state with minimal quark content [cs[over ¯]ud[over ¯]], and the latter state is a neutral tetraquark composed of [cs[over ¯]u[over ¯]d] quarks. Both states are found to have spin-parity of 0^{+}, and their resonant parameters are consistent with each other, which suggests that they belong to an isospin triplet.

Search for Rare Decays of D^{0} Mesons into Two Muons

A search for the very rare D^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-} decay is performed using data collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}. The search is optimized for D^{0} mesons from D^{*+}→D^{0}π^{+} decays but is also sensitive to D^{0} mesons from other sources. No evidence for an excess of events over the expected background is observed. An upper limit on the branching fraction of this decay is set at B(D^{0}→μ^{+}μ^{-})<3.1×10^{-9} at a 90% C.L. This represents the world's most stringent limit, constraining models of physics beyond the standard model.

Fine-Grained Visual-Text Prompt-Driven Self-Training for Open-Vocabulary Object Detection

Inspired by the success of vision-language methods (VLMs) in zero-shot classification, recent works attempt to extend this line of work into object detection by leveraging the localization ability of pretrained VLMs and generating pseudolabels for unseen classes in a self-training manner. However, since the current VLMs are usually pretrained with aligning sentence embedding with global image embedding, the direct use of them lacks fine-grained alignment for object instances, which is the core of detection. In this article, we propose a simple but effective fine-grained visual-text prompt-driven self-training paradigm for open-vocabulary detection (VTP-OVD) that introduces a fine-grained visual-text prompt adapting stage to enhance the current self-training paradigm with a more powerful fine-grained alignment. During the adapting stage, we enable VLM to obtain fine-grained alignment using learnable text prompts to resolve an auxiliary dense pixelwise prediction task. Furthermore, we propose a visual prompt module to provide the prior task information (i.e., the categories need to be predicted) for the vision branch to better adapt the pretrained VLM to the downstream tasks. Experiments show that our method achieves the state-of-the-art performance for open-vocabulary object detection, e.g., 31.5% mAP on unseen classes of COCO.

Observation of a J/ψΛ Resonance Consistent with a Strange Pentaquark Candidate in B^{-}→J/ψΛp[over ¯] Decays

An amplitude analysis of B^{-}→J/ψΛp[over ¯] decays is performed using 4400 signal candidates selected on a data sample of pp collisions recorded at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}. A narrow resonance in the J/ψΛ system, consistent with a pentaquark candidate with strangeness, is observed with high significance. The mass and the width of this new state are measured to be 4338.2±0.7±0.4  MeV and 7.0±1.2±1.3  MeV, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The spin is determined to be 1/2 and negative parity is preferred. Because of the small Q-value of the reaction, the most precise single measurement of the B^{-} mass to date, 5279.44±0.05±0.07  MeV, is obtained.

Effect of different doses of recombinant human growth hormone therapy on children with growth hormone deficiency: a retrospective observational study

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this study was to explore the effects of different doses of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) treatment on children with growth hormone deficiency (GHD).

PATIENTS AND METHODS

Medical records of 174 GHD patients admitted to our hospital from June 2019 to January 2022 were retrospectively evaluated. A total of 136 patients met the inclusion criteria, of which 70 received 0.1 U/ (kg·d) (low-dose group) and 66 received 0.2 U/ (kg·d) dose of rhGH treatment (high-dose group). Growth and development status [height, weight, height standard deviation (HtSDS), growth rate], bone age, bone density, speed of sound (SOS) as distal radius bone mass, biochemical indicators of growth and development [insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3)], growth hormone (GH) levels and incidence of adverse reactions were collected and compared between the two groups before and after one year of the treatment.

RESULTS

After the treatment, height, weight, HtSDS, and growth rate of the two groups increased compared to before the treatment and were significantly higher in the high-dose group than in the low-dose group (p<0.05). After one year of treatment, the following observations were made: the bone age of the two groups increased compared to the baseline values and was higher in the high-dose group compared to the low-dose group (p<0.05). The SOS of the two groups decreased but was significantly higher in the high-dose group compared to the low-dose group (p<0.05). Serum levels of IGF-1, IGFBP-3, and GH in both groups increased compared to the baseline values and were higher in the high-dose group than in the low-dose group (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the high-dose group (8.6%) and the low-dose group (6.1%) (p>0.05).

CONCLUSIONS

High-dose rhGH treatment for GHD is safe and can more effectively upregulate IGF-1, IGFBP-3, and GH, and promote the growth and development of children.

Measurements of the Elliptic and Triangular Azimuthal Anisotropies in Central ^{3}He+Au, d+Au and p+Au Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV

The elliptic (v_{2}) and triangular (v_{3}) azimuthal anisotropy coefficients in central ^{3}He+Au, d+Au, and p+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200  GeV are measured as a function of transverse momentum (p_{T}) at midrapidity (|η|<0.9), via the azimuthal angular correlation between two particles both at |η|<0.9. While the v_{2}(p_{T}) values depend on the colliding systems, the v_{3}(p_{T}) values are system independent within the uncertainties, suggesting an influence on eccentricity from subnucleonic fluctuations in these small-sized systems. These results also provide stringent constraints for the hydrodynamic modeling of these systems.

Analysis of dietary patterns on cardiovascular risks in children: from a cross-sectional and a longitudinal study

OBJECTIVES

Diet is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD), while the evidence about the relationship between dietary pattern (DP) and CVD in children is scarce. This study aims to explore the association between DP and CVD risk in children.

STUDY DESIGN

This was a cross-sectional and longitudinal study.

METHODS

This research was conducted among 4351 children aged 6-12 years old in 2014, then the subgroup children in 2014 were followed up in 2019. Dietary intakes were assessed using a food frequency questionnaire. DP was clustered based on 15 food items, and finally, four main DPs were obtained.

RESULTS

Four major DPs were identified: (1) low intake of nuts and algae pattern, (2) low-energy intake pattern, (3) high-energy intake pattern, and (4) regular DP. Compared with the regular diet pattern, the low intake of nuts and algae pattern was associated with the increased risk of higher systolic blood pressure (107.71 mm Hg vs 105.78 mm Hg, P < 0.001), diastolic blood pressure (64.98 mm Hg vs 63.91 mm Hg, P = 0.0056), hypertension (odds ratio [OR]:1.44, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.10, 1.88; P = 0.0036), dyslipidemia (OR: 2.41, 95% CI: 1.28, 4.52; P = 0.0194), and obesity (OR: 1.48, 95% CI: 1.16, 1.89; P = 0.0003) in children from a cross-sectional aspect in 2014 and it was also found associated with an increased risk of hypertension (OR: 2.67, 95% CI: 1.45, 4.92; P = 0.0017) in 2019.

CONCLUSIONS

Low nuts and algae intake combinations in children seemed associated with increased CVD risk. Such findings are imperative for national development of dietary recommendation for the prevention of CVDs.

Observation of Directed Flow of Hypernuclei _{Λ}^{3}H and _{Λ}^{4}H in sqrt[s_{NN}]=3 GeV Au+Au Collisions at RHIC

We report here the first observation of directed flow (v_{1}) of the hypernuclei _{Λ}^{3}H and _{Λ}^{4}H in mid-central Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=3  GeV at RHIC. These data are taken as part of the beam energy scan program carried out by the STAR experiment. From 165×10^{6} events in 5%-40% centrality, about 8400 _{Λ}^{3}H and 5200 _{Λ}^{4}H candidates are reconstructed through two- and three-body decay channels. We observe that these hypernuclei exhibit significant directed flow. Comparing to that of light nuclei, it is found that the midrapidity v_{1} slopes of _{Λ}^{3}H and _{Λ}^{4}H follow baryon number scaling, implying that the coalescence is the dominant mechanism for these hypernuclei production in the 3 GeV Au+Au collisions.

Beam Energy Dependence of Triton Production and Yield Ratio (N_{t}×N_{p}/N_{d}^{2}) in Au+Au Collisions at RHIC

We report the triton (t) production in midrapidity (|y|<0.5) Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=7.7-200  GeV measured by the STAR experiment from the first phase of the beam energy scan at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The nuclear compound yield ratio (N_{t}×N_{p}/N_{d}^{2}), which is predicted to be sensitive to the fluctuation of local neutron density, is observed to decrease monotonically with increasing charged-particle multiplicity (dN_{ch}/dη) and follows a scaling behavior. The dN_{ch}/dη dependence of the yield ratio is compared to calculations from coalescence and thermal models. Enhancements in the yield ratios relative to the coalescence baseline are observed in the 0%-10% most central collisions at 19.6 and 27 GeV, with a significance of 2.3σ and 3.4σ, respectively, giving a combined significance of 4.1σ. The enhancements are not observed in peripheral collisions or model calculations without critical fluctuation, and decreases with a smaller p_{T} acceptance. The physics implications of these results on the QCD phase structure and the production mechanism of light nuclei in heavy-ion collisions are discussed.

Template-Based Contrastive Distillation Pretraining for Math Word Problem Solving

Since math word problem (MWP) solving aims to transform natural language problem description into executable solution equations, an MWP solver needs to not only comprehend the real-world narrative described in the problem text but also identify the relationships among the quantifiers and variables implied in the problem and maps them into a reasonable solution equation logic. Recently, although deep learning models have made great progress in MWPs, they ignore the grounding equation logic implied by the problem text. Besides, as we all know, pretrained language models (PLM) have a wealth of knowledge and high-quality semantic representations, which may help solve MWPs, but they have not been explored in the MWP-solving task. To harvest the equation logic and real-world knowledge, we propose a template-based contrastive distillation pretraining (TCDP) approach based on a PLM-based encoder to incorporate mathematical logic knowledge by multiview contrastive learning while retaining rich real-world knowledge and high-quality semantic representation via knowledge distillation. We named the pretrained PLM-based encoder by our approach as MathEncoder. Specifically, the mathematical logic is first summarized by clustering the symbolic solution templates among MWPs and then injected into the deployed PLM-based encoder by conducting supervised contrastive learning based on the symbolic solution templates, which can represent the underlying solving logic in the problems. Meanwhile, the rich knowledge and high-quality semantic representation are retained by distilling them from a well-trained PLM-based teacher encoder into our MathEncoder. To validate the effectiveness of our pretrained MathEncoder, we construct a new solver named MathSolver by replacing the GRU-based encoder with our pretrained MathEncoder in GTS, which is a state-of-the-art MWP solver. The experimental results demonstrate that our method can carry a solver's understanding ability of MWPs to a new stage by outperforming existing state-of-the-art methods on two widely adopted benchmarks Math23K and CM17K. [Analysis on the trends of incidence and age change for global female breast cancer]

Objective: To analyze the trends of incidence and age change for global female breast cancer in different regions of the world according to the database from Cancer Incidence in Five Continents Time Trends (CI5plus) published by the International Association of Cancer Registries (IACR). Methods: The recorded annual female breast cancer (ICD-10: C50) incidence data and corresponding population at-risk data (1998-2012) were extracted from CI5plus published by IACR. The annual change percentage and average annual change percentage (AAPC) were calculated to examine the trends of incidence. The age-standardized mean age at diagnosis and proportion of incidence cases by age were calculated to analyze the relationship between incidence and age. Results: For crude incidence, except in Northern America, all other regions showed an upward trend, with Asia showing the most obvious upward trend (AAPC: 4.1%, 95% CI: 3.9%, 4.3%). For age-standardized incidence, in Asia, Latin America and Europe, the rising trends had slowed down, in Oceania and Africa, the trends began to be stable, and in Northern America, the trend showed a downward trend (APPC: -0.6%; 95% CI: -1.0%, -0.1%). The mean age at diagnosis were increased from 1998 to 2012 in Asia, Latin America, Oceania and Europe, with an annual increase of 0.12 years, 0.09 years, 0.04 years and 0.03 years, respectively. But after age-standardized, only Europe still kept increasing year by year, with an annual increase of 0.02 years, while Northern America showed a decreasing trend, with an annual decrease of about 0.03 years. Conclusions: From 1998 to 2012, the trends of incidence and age change for global female breast cancer vary in different regions of the world, and the global population aging is widespread, which affects the trend of the actual age change. Prevention and control strategies should be targeted at different age groups in different regions.
