Abstract
Pseudoseptic arthritis is a rare complication of hyaluronic acid (HA) injections that often is difficult to differentiate from septic arthritis. Patients present acute pain, swelling and joint effusion normally around 24h after the second or third HA infiltration. We describe a female patient with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis and flare-ups of knee arthritis with pseudoseptic features in the past, who develops pseudoseptic arthritis of the knee following her first injection of hyaluronic acid.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) leads to increased intraspinal pressure that can be prevented by durotomy and duroplasty. The aim of the study was to evaluate fibrosis and neural damage in a porcine model of SCI after duroplasty and application of hyaluronic acid (HA) in the tissue cavity. MATERIALS AND METHODS Experimental study. We created a porcine SCI model by durotomy and spinal cord hemisection of a cervical segment (1cm). Six pigs (Sus scrofa domestica) were used to evaluate three surgical scenarios: (1) control injury with dural reparative microsurgery, (2) duroplasty using bovine pericardium (BPD), and (3) previous method plus HA applied at the lesion. Animals were sacrificed one-month post-injury to assess fibrotic responses and neural tissue damage using conventional histological and immunohistochemical methods. RESULTS In the control case, dural suture prevented invasion of the lesion by extradural connective tissue, and the dura mater showed a 1-mm thickening in the perilesional area. The bovine pericardium patch blocked the entrance of extradural connective tissue, decreased dura-mater tension, and satisfactorily integrated within the receptor tissue. However, it also enhanced subdural and perilesional fibrosis, which was not inhibited by filling the lesion cavity with low- or high-molecular-weight HA. CONCLUSIONS Duroplasty prevents collapse of the dura-mater over the spinal cord tissue, as well as invasion of the lesion by extramedullary fibrotic tissue, without creating additional neural damage. Nevertheless, it enhances the fibrotic response in the spinal cord lesion and the perilesional area. Additional antifibrotic strategies are needed to facilitate spinal cord repair.

Abstract
The treatment of facial asymmetry in patients with microphthalmos or acquired anophthalmic sockets usually requires aggressive reconstructive surgeries. In recent years, studies have been published on the use of fillers to optimize orbital tissue symmetry, as minimally invasive techniques. For this reason, we performed a systematic review of the literature published to date on the use of fillers for the treatment of volume loss in acquired anophthalmic or microphthalmic cavities. Fourteen articles were reviewed in which the material used, the injection technique, the anatomical study of the patients before the procedure and the presence of associated complications were analyzed. Various materials have been used as fillers, including autologous fat, calcium hydroxyapatite, collagen, hyaluronic acid, or polyacrylamide gel. Standard peribulbar and retrobulbar injection techniques were applied, with few associated complications, the most serious being the development of vasovagal symptoms. Patient follow-up is usually limited in most studies to 12 months. In Conclusion, the use of fillers seems to be a safe practice, with good results and few complications, although studies with longer follow-up times than those published to date would be required.

Abstract
Skin aging is influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors and involves multiple pathogenic mechanisms. The most widely used treatments are topical products and minimally invasive procedures. Evidence on the benefits of systemic therapy is limited for several reasons: Reliance on mostly small and predominantly female samples, short study durations, methodologic heterogeneity, and a lack of consensus on which outcome measures are clinically relevant. Furthermore, systemic drugs and oral supplements are not without adverse effects. Oral hydrolyzed collagen and oral hyaluronic acid are well tolerated, and numerous clinical trials show they can mitigate some signs of skin aging. Low-dose oral isotretinoin is another option, but it has a higher risk of adverse effects. Evidence is lacking on the effects of the many dietary supplements on offer, such as vitamins, flavonoids, plant extracts, and trace elements. The future of skin aging management would appear to lie in the use of senolytic and senomorphic agents targeting senescent cells in the skin.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the periodicity of hyaluronic acid (HA) reinjection in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Secondary aim: To relate the degree of arthrosis with the time between infiltrations and the possible study by subgroups between the different commercial preparations. DESIGN Retrospective observational study. MATERIALS AND METHOD Review of medical records and X-rays of patients with knee osteoarthritis that had been treated with intra-articular HA at the Rehabilitation Service in the period between January 2017 and June 2019. VARIABLES Socio-demographic, Laterality, Intervention Date, Degree of Arthrosis according to Kellgren and Lawrence, HA used, Time between filtrations. Statistical analysis carried out by Kaplan-Meier curves, taking into account the reinfiltration as final event, and Kruskal-Wallis test for non-parametric quantitative data. RESULTS We analysed 110 infiltration acts in 67 patients: average age at the time of infiltration 72.12 years, 85.1% women, 59.1% right knee. 4 types of HA: 33 cases at 1%. MW: 0.9MDa (HA1), 12 at 1.5%. MW: 1.5-2MDa (HA2), 42 at 2%. MW: 1.2MDa (HA3) and 6 Hylan G-F20. MW: 6MDa (HA4). We reinfiltrated in 31 occasions (28.2%). Average of months (IC 95%) between infiltrations: HA1 6.9 (5.7-8.16), HA2 12.5 (0-35), HA3 9.3 (5.5-13.1), HA4 5 (3-6.9). In 2 cases where it was not possible to establish the type of infiltrated formulations, the mean value between reinfiltrations was 8.5 (5.6-11.4) There were no statistically significant results by relating the HA type or the degree of arthrosis with the reinfiltration time. CONCLUSIONS In our study, we observe that the HA3 presented a longer time between infiltrations in comparison with other types, with no possibility to detect significant differences.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Blindness after periocular cosmetic filler injection is a rare but devastating complication. Complication management protocols recommend injecting retrobulbar hyaluronidase if visual loss related to accidental intravascular injection of hyaluronic acid occurs. Given the dramatic increase in cosmetic filler injections and the variety of professionals that can deliver them, it is reasonable to assume that the incidence of complications will rise significantly. OBJECTIVE To evaluate if there is evidence-based efficacy of retrobulbar hyaluronidase injection in visual loss secondary to periocular cosmetic filler injection. MATERIAL AND METHODS The authors performed a search of English and Spanish language articles following the PRISMA statement published on the use of retrobulbar hyaluronidase to reverse vision loss precipitated by hyaluronic acid gel fillers. Articles reviewed included case reports/series and experimental investigations. We identified a total of 13 patients in this review following defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Finally, we included 15 articles in the study, 12 of them were cases / case series. The 2 remaining articles are experimental studies in animals with a control group, in which after causing selective occlusion of the ophthalmic artery, serial injections of retroocular hyaluronidase are administered with control of visual function. RESULTS Of the 15 articles included in the study, we studied 17 patients treated with retrobulbar hyaluronidase for hyaluronic acid-induced blindness. Improvement was demonstrated in 3 cases. Animal studies demonstrate variable data are provided regarding the recovery of visual acuity. CONCLUSIONS There is no confirmed evidence of retrobulbar hyaluronidase injection effectiveness in treating visual loss due to accidental intravascular injection of hyaluronic acid. More studies are needed to show the efficacy of hyaluronidase as a treatment for blindness caused by hyaluronic acid.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Bladder pain syndrome (BPS) is a complex syndrome, without a clearly defined etiology that encompasses different entities, such as interstitial cystitis. This leads to difficulties in establishing a precise definition, obtaining accurate prevalence data, and defining diagnostic criteria and standardized assessment methods. Moreover, there is no consensus regarding the treatment of BPS. Intravesical instillations with hyaluronic acid (HA) are an option, although no specific recommendations have been made yet. OBJECTIVE To synthesize the scientific evidence on the therapeutic options available for BPS and to establish a work plan and recommendations for the use of intravesical instillations with HA. The Spanish Association of Urology, through the Functional, Female, and Urodynamic Urology Group, created a commission of experts. This commission was in charge of reviewing literature (evidence), agreeing on the work plan, and proposing recommendations. RESULTS There is great variability in literature on the treatment of BPS, without a standard regimen of intravesical instillation with HA (frequency and duration of initial and maintenance treatment). CONCLUSIONS Intravesical HA instillations (usual dose of 40 mg) are effective and safe. They can be combined with other options, with efficacy still to be determined in some cases. Treatment is divided into several initial weekly sessions, followed by maintenance treatment, usually monthly (unestablished duration of cycles). Recommendations on the management of BPS were agreed, with diagnostic criteria and guidelines for treatment with intravesical HA (initiation, reassessment, and follow-up).

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Chronic bladder disorders are a common condition. Endovesical hyaluronic acid is one of the therapeutic options for these patients. It is intended to verify the effectiveness and safety of treatment with intravesical instillations of hyaluronic acidin patients with bladder symptoms. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We present a series of 32 patients who received intravesical instillations of hyaluronic acid. Demographic characteristics, tolerance, and complications were analyzed, and symptoms before and after treatment were compared. Symptomatic relief achieved with treatment was assessed using the Patient Global Improvement Impression Scale (PGI-I). RESULTS The median age was 74 years (IQR 60-78) and 65.6% were women. Median follow-up was 10 months (IQR 7-14). Eleven patients were diagnosed with radiotherapy-induced cystitis, 17 with bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis (BPS/IC), and 4 with recurrent cystitis. After treatment, symptoms improved in 81.8% of patients with radical cystitis, 82.3% of patients with BPS/IC, and 75% of the patients with recurrent cystitis. The incidence of hematuria was reduced from 46.9% to 9.4% (p<0.001), filing symptoms from 62.5% to 12.5% (p<0.001) and pain from 40.6% to 12.5% (p= 0.004). 100% of the patients tolerated the treatment well and only 2 adverse effects were recorded (urinary tract infection and acute urine retention). During follow-up, 65.6% showed total control of symptoms and 15.6% partial control, achieving a greater response in the group of patients with hematuria (73.3%). 61.3% of the patients perceived relief of symptoms after treatment according to the PGI-I scale. 88.9% maintained symptomatic improvement at the end of the follow-up. CONCLUSION Intravesical hyaluronic acid is a safe and effective treatment for filling symptoms, hematuria, and pain in patients with chronic cystopathies. Patients with radiotherapy-induced cystitis seem to especially benefit from treatment.

Abstract
Ischemic events are the most serious complications of facial antiaging treatment with dermal fillers. Ischemia can cause Nicolau syndrome, blindness, or even stroke. This article discusses how to prevent ischemic complications and what steps to take should a dermatologic emergency develop. A thorough understanding of facial anatomy is important. Preferred procedural techniques involve the use of cannulas and retrograde injection. When ischemia is detected in the skin, hyaluronidase should be injected, preferably through a cannula. If ocular ischemia occurs, the patient should be transferred to a hospital with stroke code activation.

Abstract
AIMS OF THE STUDY To compare efficacy and safety of a home-made platelet-rich plasma (PRP) solution versus hyaluronic acid in patients with hip osteoarthritis not responding to conservative treatment and to correlate cellular composition of PRP to clinical outcomes. MATERIAL AND METHODS This is a phase III clinical trial, double-blinded, controlled and randomised into two treatment groups (PRP and hyaluronic acid). Patients received one hip ultrasound-guided injection. Follow up was 12 months. Pain was assessed using VAS score, HHS and WOMAC were used as functional scores, analgesia, adverse events, cellular components (PRP group) in peripheral blood and in PRP were recorded. Clinical response was assessed using OARSI criteria. RESULTS Seventy-four patients were included. Both groups improved in VAS, WOMAC and HHS score and reduced the amount of analgesia (p<.05). Significant differences were seen at 1 year post-treatment in HHS score (PRP 70.9 [3.7-58], hyaluronic acid 60.2[43-74.2] p<.05). No adverse events were observed in none of the groups. Platelet concentration was different between responders and non-responders (at 1 month, non-responders 449[438-578] x103 platelets/μl versus responders 565 [481-666] x103 platelets/μl, p<.044). There was a correlation between leukocytes concentration and clinical scores (VAS at six months, r=0.748, p<.013, WOMAC at 6 months r=0.748, p <.013). Patients with early stage hip OA showed higher response rate to PRP compared with late stage (11.51 OR, 95%CI 2.34-50.65, p<.03). CONCLUSIONS Platelet-rich plasma injection improved hip function, reduced pain and the use of analgesia. It is important to bear in mind the cellular composition in order to achieve a better clinical response.

The National Academy of Medicine of Mexico and the National Normative Council for Medical Specialties (CONACEM) communicate their posture on this matter.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE To assess the effectiveness of electromyography-guided hyaluronic acid injection laryngoplasty in the early stage of unilateral vocal fold paralysis in terms of patient recovery from dysphonia and quality of life. METHODS Between January and December 2014, 28 patients with unilateral vocal fold paralysis underwent electromyography and injection of hyaluronic acid in the thyroarytenoid muscle. We compared the voice handicap index, grade, roughness, breathiness, asthenia, strain scale (GRBAS), videostroboscopic parameters and maximum phonation time assessed before, 15 days and 6 months after the intervention, using the non-parametric Wilcoxon rank test. RESULTS Out of the 28 patients, 1 had a haematoma in the injected vocal fold (3.57%) and 6 required second injections. The maximum phonation time of the vowel /e/ increased from 6.07 to 12.14 sec. (15 days post-intervention) and subsequently 12.75 (6 months post-intervention). There was also a significant improvement in the grade, roughness, breathiness, asthenia, strain scale in parameters G, B and A both 15 days and 6 months after the intervention. The voice handicap index score decreased from 58.29 to 37.63 (15 days post-intervention) and 29.64 (6 months post-intervention). CONCLUSIONS Electromyography-guided hyaluronic injection laryngoplasty in unilateral vocal fold paralysis enables, in the same intervention, neuromuscular assessment and temporary treatment of glottic insufficiency with a low risk of complications and improvement in patient's quality of life. This may reduce the need for subsequent treatments, but further research is required to confirm these findings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the in vitro effects of hyaluronic acid (HA) on adipose-derived stem cells (ASC) in order to consider the possibility of their combined used in the treatment of knee arthrosis. MATERIAL AND METHODS The ASC cells were grown both in the presence and absence of AH, and several studies were carried out: proliferation (WST8) and cell viability studies (Alamar Blue® and Trypan Blue), possible chondrogenic differentiation (collagen type 2 expression) by RT-PCR, AH receptor expression (CD44) by flow cytometry and RT-QPCR, and expression of inflammatory and anti-inflammatory factors (IL-6, TGFß, IL-10) by RT-QPCR. RESULTS The number of ASC significantly increased after 7 days with HA (158±39%, p <0.05). Additionally, the cell viability of the ASC treated with HA after 1, 3, 5 and 7 days was similar to that of the control cells, being considered non-toxic. There were no changes observed in the expression of CD44 and chondrogenic differentiation. TGFß expression was not modified after AH treatment, but there was a 4-fold decrease in IL-6 expression and IL-10 expression increased up to 2-fold compared to control cells. CONCLUSIONS Hyaluronic acid favours ASC proliferation without causing cellular toxicity, and inducing an anti-inflammatory profile in these cells. Hyaluronic acid appears to be a suitable vehicle for the intra-articular administration of mesenchymal stem cells.
