An empirical investigation to understand mobile phone users' behavioural intention to give their end-of-life mobile phones for formal recycling

Mobile phones have turned into a highly essential device for numerous individuals. Swift innovation and decrease in in-use lifespan have increased the generation of end-of-life mobile phones (EOL-MPs). Lesser formal recycling of EOL-MPs has detrimental outcomes on the environment, human health, and circular economy. Therefore, this research was undertaken to investigate factors impacting mobile phone users' behavioural intention to give their EOL-MPs for formal recycling. The conceptual model was developed by integrating the theory of planned behaviour, norm activation model, and value-belief-norm theory. Responses were collected from mobile phone users aged 18 and above residing in Bengaluru, Mangaluru, and Huballi-Dharvad cities of Karnataka state, India. 1135 responses were analysed by applying partial least squares structural equation modelling. Incentives was figured out to be the most positively impacting construct on behavioural intention. Followed by awareness of consequences, social media, past recycling experience, and recycling attitude. Whereas risk perception regarding information security and convenience of recycling negatively impacts behavioural intention. Personal norms get activated by awareness of consequences and ascription of responsibility. As a result, personal norms positively impact behavioural intention. In addition, biospheric values also positively impact personal norms. The outcomes of PLSpredict signify that the conceptual model has high out-of-sample predictive power. The outcomes of this research can be utilized by various stakeholders like e-waste collection organisations, e-waste recycling organisations, mobile phone manufacturing companies, city corporations, educational institutions, etc for improving sustainable end-of-life management of EOL-MPs.

Exploring factors that influence the behavioural intention of medical students to use 3D gastroscopic model to learn how to operate gastroscope using UTAUT Model

BACKGROUND

The application of virtual reality (VR) in gastroscopic operation teaching can be safe and effective, but the advantages can be realized only when students accept and use it. This study aims to identify the factors influencing Chinese clinical medical postgraduates on their intention to use the 3D gastroscopic model constructed based on VR technology using Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. Students' demographic factors are also taken into consideration.

METHODS

All methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines. Data were collected from clinical medical postgraduates students in China using stratified sampling. A total of 292 questionnaires including valid responses were used in this study. Data were processed using Amos 24.0 and SPSS 26.0 software and the statistical analysis technique was based on structural equation modeling (SEM).

RESULTS

The results showed that different from the mediator of home location and year of clinical learning, mediator of gender, university kind and graduate degree did not affect the behavioral intention. In addition, performance expectancy, facilitating condition, and social influence directly and indirectly have effect on behavioral intention. Also, the significance between social influence and performance expectancy, social influence and effort expectancy were verified.

CONCLUSIONS

This study manifested that the proposed framework based on the UTAUT had explanatory power to identify the factors influencing the students' behavioral intention to use the 3D gastroscopic model constructed based on VR technology. Whereas, an important variable of effort expectancy in the frame of the SEM were not certified, thereby indicating that particular attention should be paid to this variable by universities and teachers before applying 3D gastroscopic model constructed based on VR technology in teaching. Added preparatory work is required such as explaining the basic knowledge of the operating steps of VR model and make students adequately understand its accessibility, which can probably improve the intentions of them to use it. The positive effects of social influence on performance expectancy and effort expectancy we proposed was also verified in this study, which provided a direction for future research.

Adoption of online mathematics learning in Ugandan government universities during the COVID-19 pandemic: pre-service teachers' behavioural intention and challenges

In the wake of COVID-19, higher education institutions worldwide were forced to continue teaching and learning through online means. However, it was only during the pandemic that institutions in Uganda, such as Kabale University, embraced online learning. Against this background, one could not predict how students drastically adapted to the new normal, especially in mathematics, which requires a lot of practice. Thus, this study sought to establish the relationship between behavioural intention to use technology and the adoption of online mathematics learning among pre-service teachers at Kabale University. We conceptualized behavioural intention to use technology according to the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) as comprising four factors: performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, and social influence. This mixed methods study followed a cross-sectional correlational survey and hermeneutic phenomenological research designs. We collected data from 140 pre-service mathematics teachers, who were sampled using stratified and simple random sampling techniques, through a self-administered questionnaire. Also, we collected qualitative data through nine face-to-face interviews of pre-service mathematics teachers using criterion sampling, where the most prominent criterion was the participant's experience with the phenomenon under study. Using Pearson's linear correlation, results showed that all UTAUT constructs were related to the adoption of online learning. Simple linear regression revealed that facilitating conditions were the strongest predictor. Furthermore, the narrative analysis indicated that, among others, a lack of technological knowledge hindered learners' effective participation in online mathematics lectures. Therefore they barely benefited from online learning. Thus, we recommend government universities enhance teachers' and learners' technological knowledge, among other facilitating conditions such as establishing strong on-campus Wi-Fi connections as online learning continues.

Investigating science teachers' intention to adopt virtual reality through the integration of diffusion of innovation theory and theory of planned behaviour: the moderating role of perceived skills readiness

This study contributes to the extant literature on instructional technology by investigating the relationships between the social and personal factors and behavioral intention to use virtual reality. Moreover, the current study examined the links between perceived characteristics of virtual reality and attitude and the moderating role that can be played by perceived skills readiness between those links. Inspired by the Theory of Planned Behaviour and Diffusion of Innovation Theory, a set of hypotheses was formed to test the proposed relationships using structural equation modeling partial least square to a sample of 171 science teachers in Oman. The results showed that attitude, social norms and perceived behavioral control can predict behavioral Intention to use virtual reality with attitude as the strongest predictor. Furthermore, the results indicated that relative advantage could predict attitude towards using virtual reality while compatibility and observability cannot. Finally, perceived skills readiness can strengthen the relationship between the perceived characteristics of virtual reality applications (relative advantage, compatibility and observability) and attitude towards using the virtual reality in the science classroom. Thus, this study highlights the importance of focussing on science teachers' skills readiness to use virtual reality so that they can use it confidently. Implications and future research studies are discussed.

Modelling behavioural intention to buy apartments in Bangladesh: An extended theory of planned behaviour (TPB)

Understanding the elements that influence buyers' purchase intentions is critical for real estate companies. The goal of this study is to develop a model for investigating behavioural intentions to purchase apartments in Bangladesh. To obtain the preliminary elements, the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) was used as the underpinning theoretical framework. Other elements relevant to the study context were identified by an extensive literature review, which was subsequently evaluated by industry experts. A systematic questionnaire was used to collect two hundred and thirty-six samples. To find the relevant factors, an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used. In addition to the criteria mentioned by the TPB, the results reveal three additional aspects: perceived physical quality, access to money, and favourable government policy. The study contributes to the literature by presenting an extended TPB model suitable for studying behavioural intention to buy apartments in an emerging country.

A local destination story for the restoration of the destination image affected by Covid-19 crisis: evidence from Indonesia

The study investigates the impact of the narrative engagement mechanism on destination image and tourist behaviour during the Covid-19 crisis. This study used primary data collected from 390 respondents via a scenario-based survey. The results show that the authenticity, conciseness, and reversal of destination stories significantly influence the customers' narrative engagement, which further influences the destination's image and behavioural intentions affected by Covid-19. However, narrative engagement and the destination story did not lead to visitors' affective destination images. This study offers a practical contribution on how a personal travel story helped destinations affected by Covid-19 survive the crisis. Additionally, the study has substantial implications for local destination marketing organisations in expanding recovery strategies and redeveloping images in the future. The study also provides theoretical contribution as the dynamic change in local destination images (cognitive and affective) during the Covid-19 crisis have rarely been explored in academic studies.

Examining the behavioural intention of inpatients in Indian government hospitals

PURPOSE

The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of perceived service quality (PSQ) on the behavioural intention (BI) of patients in Indian government hospitals. The underlying mechanism of trust and patient satisfaction (SAT) is examined as multiple mediating effect.

DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH

Data from 510 respondents were collected using structured questionnaires. Six government hospitals, namely, S.M.S. Hospital, J.L.N. Hospital, New Medical College Hospital, Maharana Bhupal Medical Hospital, Mathuradas Hospital and P.B.N. Hospital, were selected from the cities of Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner, respectively. The data were collected from adult patients (>18 years old) who spent at least two nights in a government hospital between 1 October, 2020 and 30 December, 2020. PSQ formed as a reflective-formative model was analysed using the repeated indicator approach. Structural equation modelling (SEM) using SMART-PLS software was used to test the hypothesised model(s) derived deductively from literature.

FINDINGS

The findings support the following conclusions: (1) the positive relationship between PSQ and BI is significant; (2) SAT mediates the PSQ and BI relationship; (3) trust mediates the PSQ and BI relationship; (4) the mediation effect of SAT is stronger than that of trust.

PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS

The results indicate that, in order to enhance the positive BI of patients towards government hospitals, it is necessary for the hospitals to work on strategies to enhance the service quality provided to patients. The outcome of this study will enable state government hospitals to get a better understanding of the different dimensions of service quality and will help in observing the factors that contribute to patients' satisfaction and trust in building long-term relationships by encouraging a positive BI.

ORIGINALITY/VALUE

There is a dearth of research in India that evaluates the relationships between the constructs PSQ, trust, BI and SAT in the context of healthcare service. This empirical study is an attempt to fill this gap by focussing on the government hospitals in India.

Behavioural intention of receiving COVID-19 vaccination, social media exposures and peer discussions in China

The study aimed to investigate behavioural intentions to receive free and self-paid COVID-19 vaccinations (BICV-F and BICV-SP) among Chinese university students if the vaccine was 80% effective with rare mild side effects, to examine their associations with social media exposures and peer discussions regarding COVID-19 vaccination, and to explore the mediational role of perceived information sufficiency about COVID-19 vaccination. An online anonymous survey (N = 6922) was conducted in November 2020 in five Chinese provinces. Logistic regression and path analysis were adopted. The prevalence of BICV-F and BICV-SP were 78.1% and 57.7%. BICV-F was positively associated with the frequencies of passive social media exposure (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 1.32, P < 0.001), active social media interaction (AOR = 1.13, P < 0.001) and peer discussions (AOR = 1.17, P < 0.001). Indirect effects of the three factors on BICV-F via perceived information sufficiency were all significant (P < 0.001). The direct effect of active social media interaction on BICV-F was significantly negative (P < 0.001). Similar associations/mediations were observed for BICV-SP. The COVID-19 vaccination intention of Chinese university students needs improvement. Boosting social media exposures and peer discussions may raise students' perceived information sufficiency and subsequently increase their vaccination intention. Considering the potential negative effect of active social media interaction, caution is needed when using social media to promote COVID-19 vaccination.

Association between echinococcosis-specific health literacy and behavioural intention to prevent echinococcosis among herdsmen on the Tibet Plateau in China: a cross-sectional study

Background

Echinococcosis is considered a neglected zoonotic disease and has been a major worldwide public health problem. Although it is known that health literacy is closely related to health behaviours and health outcomes, few studies have paid attention to echinococcosis related health literacy. This study aims to examine the association between echinococcosis-specific health literacy (ES-HL) and behavioural intention to prevent echinococcosis (BIPE) among herdsmen on the Tibet Plateauin in China.

Methods

A cross-sectional study of 401 Tibetan herdsmen was conducted in Gande county of Qinghai Province, China. Participants were recruited from August to September 2018 and from February to March 2019. A self-developed questionnaire was used to measure demographic information, ES-HL and BIPE. Hierarchical regression analysis was done to identify the factors associated with BIPE.

Results

In the hierarchical regression analysis, we entered age, sex, education level, marital state and family monthly income per capita into model 1 which explained a significant amount of variance in BIPE (Adjusted R² change = 0.029, P = 0.006). Sex (β = − 0.125, P = 0.013) and family monthly income per capita (β = − 0.133, P = 0.009) were found to be associated with BIPE. Subsequently, the three factors of ES-HL were added to Model 1 to create Model 2. In Model 2, the two factors of ES-HL, perceived echinococcosis information support (β = 0.229, P < 0.001) and echinococcosis-specific self-management ability (β = 0.252, P < 0.001), were significantly associated with BIPE, while the information acquisition and evaluation ability factor (β =0.093, P = 0.089) was not found to be associated with BIPE. The model improved significantly when ES-HL was included (Model 2) explaining the 25.8% of variance of BIPE (Adjust R² change =0.229, P < 0.001).

Conclusions

ES-HL is an important predictor of whether individuals take preventive actions against echinococcosis. An ES-HL promotion action project should be developed targeting specific populations to enhance the prevention of echinococcosis.

Mediating effect of behavioural intention on podcast acceptance

This research contributes to knowledge in mediating effect of lecturers' behavioural intention towards the acceptance of podcasts technology in universities. A cross-sectional quantitative research design was involved in this study. Also, a total of eight hundred and twenty-nine (829) lecturers participated in this research from three different south-west Nigeria Federal universities. The research instrument was titled lecturer's acceptance questionnaire (LAQ) with a calculated Cronbach's alpha of .919, which confirmed the instrument validity. The gathered data was analysed by using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The formulated hypothesis was tested at .05 level of significance. The result from descriptive analysis of data suggested that behavioural intention was at a low level among lecturers and the results of hypothesis testing revealed the effect of behavioural intention as partial mediator of podcast acceptance. Based on these findings relevant conclusions and recommendations were suggested in this research.

Understanding the behavioural intention to dispose of unused medicines: an extension of the theory of planned behaviour

This study examined behavioural intention to dispose of unused medicines using a comprehensive model integrating the theory of planned behaviour (TPB), with knowledge as a driver of personal norms; attitudes, personal norms, and perceived busyness as additional drivers of behavioural intention; and perceived convenience as a moderator. The model was tested with data collected from 204 respondents using the partial least squares technique. Knowledge about the proper disposal of unused medicines was recognized as a strong predictor of personal norms and attitudes towards proper disposal of waste medications. The results showed that attitudes, personal norms, perceived busyness, and perceived behavioural control have significant effects on intention to dispose of unused medicines. Furthermore, perceived convenience moderates the impacts of attitude, personal norms, and perceived behavioural control on intention to dispose of unused medicines. The extended TPB explained 55.7% of the variance of intention to dispose of unused medicines properly. Our results indicate the importance of integrating additional variables into the TPB to enhance its explanatory power in predicting behavioural intention. The results suggest to governments that in order to implement planned programs for proper collection and destruction of waste medication, a plan is needed to enhance public knowledge on the impacts of improper medication waste disposal on the environment, and also that collection points should become accessible for anyone.

The role of Optimistic Bias in safe food handling behaviours in the food service sector

This study evaluates the influences on food handlers' intention to conduct safe handling behaviours in food service settings in Brazil and the United Kingdom, focusing on Optimistic bias (OB). Although OB has been identified in food handlers in other studies, this is the first study evaluating the role of OB in determining behavioural intention. Three hundred participants, from the United Kingdom (n = 150) and Brazil (n = 150), completed a Theory of Planned Behaviour - based questionnaire, including additional questions about OB. For Brazilian food handlers, Attitude had a significant influence on Behavioural Intention followed by Subjective Norm, while Perceived Behavioural Control and OB did not significantly influence Behavioural Intention. For the United Kingdom, Perceived Behavioural Control had the largest influence, followed by Attitude, and then OB. Results suggest that cultural differences may influence predictors of behavioural intention, and that OB can contribute to predicting engagement in safe handling behaviours. Results contribute to a better understanding of the influences on food safety related behaviours.

Perceived health risk, environmental knowledge, and contingent valuation for improving air quality: New evidence from the Jinchuan mining area in China

This study examined people's willingness to pay (WTP) for improving air quality obtained through contingent valuation method (CVM) in the context of the theory of planned behaviour. Following this theory, four indicators were developed to measure people's behavioural intentions for improving air quality; two of these indicators were correlated with contingent valuation survey. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was employed to estimate our Perception-based Behavioural Intention Model (PBIM) by using a cross-sectional data set of 759 residents of the Jinchuan mining area in Gansu Province, China. We found that Jinchuan residents' WTP for improving local air quality was significantly influenced by the perceived health risk of hazardous pollutants, environmental knowledge, socioeconomic status, current health condition, gender, work environment, and proximity to the pollution source. This study shows that SEM outperforms conventional CVM econometrically and in terms of the provision of relevant policy information.

Knowledge of HIV and Intention to Engage in Risky Sexual Behaviour and Practices among Senior School Adolescents in Ibadan, Nigeria

A high proportion of adolescents still engage in risky sexual behaviours that put them at risk of infection complications of risky sexual behaviours including Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection despite the different interventions already in place. This study was designed to determine the adolescents' knowledge of HIV, intention to engage in risky sexual behaviour and sexual practices. A 3-stage sampling technique was used to select 240 adolescents in senior secondary schools in Ibadan, Nigeria. Data were obtained using a pretested, semi-structured, self-administered questionnaire. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square test at 5% level of significance. The mean age of the respondents was 16.3±1.4 years and 126(52.5%) were females. Only 34.3% had good knowledge of HIV and there were misconceptions about its transmission. Most of the respondents (95.0%) had intention to engage in risky sexual behaviour and those with good knowledge of HIV were willing to engage in risky sexual behavour with familiar people. Good knowledge was associated with intention to engage in low risk sexual behaviour. Seventy-nine (32.9%) were sexually active and they had better knowledge of HIV. Knowledge of HIV was low among this study group and was not associated with their intention to engage in risky sexual behaviour. There is need for more effective and appropriate school and community-based intervention programmes which can impact positively on the adolescents' sexual behaviour.

Contextual and psychosocial factors predicting Ebola prevention behaviours using the RANAS approach to behaviour change in Guinea-Bissau

BACKGROUND

The outbreak of the Ebola virus disease (EVD) in West Africa in December 2013 was the largest Ebola outbreak in history. This study aimed to measure the underlying contextual and psychosocial factors of intentions to perform Ebola prevention behaviours (not touching people who might be suffering from Ebola, reporting suspected cases to the National Ebola Hotline, NEH) in Guinea-Bissau. Geographical location, cross-border market activities, poor water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) conditions, and burial practices in some communities pose a serious risk in terms of potential EVD outbreak and seriously hamper its prevention in Guinea-Bissau.

METHODS

In July and August 2015, quantitative data from 1369 respondents were gathered by structured face-to-face interviews. The questionnaire was based on the psychosocial factors of the RANAS (risks, attitudes, norms, abilities, and self-regulation) model. Data were analyzed by multiple linear regression analyses.

RESULTS

The most important predictors for the intention to call the NEH were believing that calling the Hotline would help the infected person, perceiving that important members from the household approve of calling the Hotline, thinking that calling the Hotline is something they should do, and believing that it is important to call the Hotline to report a suspected case. For the intention not to touch someone who might be suffering from Ebola, the most important predictors were health knowledge, the perception of risk with regard to touching a person who might be suffering from Ebola, and the belief that they were able not to touch a possibly infected person. Age in years was the only significant contextual predictor for one of the two behavioural intentions, the intention to call the Hotline. It seems that younger people are more likely to use a service like the NEH than older people.

CONCLUSIONS

Strengths and gaps were identified in the study population in relation to the intention to perform prevention behaviours. These call for innovative ways of aligning existing hygiene programs with relevant psychosocial factors. This research is relevant to further outbreaks of contagious diseases as it sheds light on important aspects of the impact of public health interventions during emergencies and epidemics.

Using event related potentials to identify a user's behavioural intention aroused by product form design

The capacity of product form to arouse user's behavioural intention plays a decisive role in further user experience, even in purchase decision, while traditional methods rarely give a fully understanding of user experience evoked by product form, especially the feeling of anticipated use of product. Behavioural intention aroused by product form designs has not yet been investigated electrophysiologically. Hence event related potentials (ERPs) were applied to explore the process of behavioural intention when users browsed different smart phone form designs with brand and price not taken into account for mainly studying the brain activity evoked by variety of product forms. Smart phone pictures with different anticipated user experience were displayed with equiprobability randomly. Participants were asked to click the left mouse button when certain picture gave them a feeling of behavioural intention to interact with. The brain signal of each participant was recorded by Curry 7.0. The results show that pictures with an ability to arouse participants' behavioural intention for further experience can evoke enhanced N300 and LPPs (late positive potentials) in central-parietal, parietal and occipital regions. The scalp topography shows that central-parietal, parietal and occipital regions are more activated. The results indicate that the discrepancy of ERPs can reflect the neural activities of behavioural intention formed or not. Moreover, amplitude of ERPs occurred in corresponding brain areas can be used to measure user experience. The exploring of neural correlated with behavioural intention provide an accurate measurement method of user's perception and help marketers to know which product can arouse users' behavioural intention, maybe taken as an evaluating indicator of product design.

Using the Theory of Planned Behaviour to examine enrolled nursing students' intention to care for patients with alcohol dependence: A survey study

BACKGROUND

Nurses are often the first point of contact for patients hospitalized due to alcohol-related causes. Alcohol dependence is highly stigmatized and as a result healthcare professionals often have low behavioural intentions, meaning low willingness to care for these patients. This can have a direct influence on quality of care.

OBJECTIVES

The purpose of this study was to explore enrolled nursing students' intention to care for patients with alcohol dependence and the antecedents, preliminary factors, that predict this within the Theory of Planned Behaviour; specifically attitudes, subjective norms, self-efficacy and controllability.

DESIGN

The study was a cross-sectional survey using the Theory of Planned Behaviour.

SETTING

Two Technical and Further Education South Australia campuses across metropolitan Adelaide.

PARTICIPANTS

n=86 enrolled nursing students completed the survey (62% response rate).

METHODS

Enrolled nursing students' intention, attitudes, subjective norms, self-efficacy and controllability were measured using a Theory of Planned Behaviour Questionnaire. The Short Alcohol and Alcohol Problems Perception Questionnaire investigated attitudes in more detail and a short knowledge scale assessed alcohol-related knowledge.

RESULTS

Subjective norms and attitudes had a significant, positive effect on intention to care within the final model, accounting for 22.6% of the variance, F2,83=12.12, p<0.001. Subjective norms were the strongest predictor. External factors such as age, previous alcohol training and alcohol-related knowledge held direct paths to antecedents of intention.

CONCLUSIONS

Subjective norms were the strongest predictor of intention to care for patients with alcohol dependence, followed by attitudes. The study provides an understanding of enrolled nursing students' intention to care for alcohol dependent patients. These findings can assist in developing tailored alcohol training for students, to increase attitudes and foster behavioural change, in order to improve the quality of care for these patients.

Nordic veterinarians' threshold for medical treatment of dairy cows, influence on disease recording and medicine use: mild clinical mastitis as an example

National databases for dairy cows in the four Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, have been found to capture varying proportions of disease events on farm. A variation in the thresholds of veterinarians to initiate medical treatment may be a reason for this. Studying these thresholds may increase the understanding of prudent use of antibiotics. The primary objective of this study was to investigate whether Nordic veterinarians, on a between country-level, vary in their intention to start medical treatment of a dairy cow with mild clinical mastitis, on the same day as making the diagnosis. The threshold for initiating treatment was quantified as an intention score. Secondary, underlying behavioural components of the intention score was studied within each country. A social psychology model, the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), was used to design a questionnaire that was distributed to 1047 veterinarians in cattle practice in the four countries during autumn 2010. The response rate was around 50% in all the countries, and 543 observations were retained for analysis. The between-country differences in intention were tested with one-way analysis of variance. Multivariable linear regression was used to estimate the proportion of variability in intention explained by the three behavioural components, attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioural control. The Spearman rank correlations between specific beliefs about the behaviour and intention scores were estimated to find beliefs of high influence on the decision to treat or not. Intention scores differed between all countries (p<0.05) except between NO and SE (p=0.06). The mean intention scores were 0.71, 0.42, 0.58 and 0.50 in DK, FI, NO and SE, respectively. As measured by the adjusted R(2) in linear regression models, the underlying behavioural components of the TPB explained 0.37, 0.41, 0.40 and 0.48 of the variation in intention scores in DK, FI, NO and SE, respectively. Attitude was the most important predictor in DK, NO and SE, but perceived behavioural control was most important in FI. In all countries the specific attitude belief of highest influence was that starting treatment the same day as diagnosing a case of mild clinical mastitis gives the best result, compared to delaying treatment. The varying intentions of veterinarians to initiate medical treatment are likely to influence centrally registered mastitis incidence. This study has given an improved understanding of this behaviour, which may be useful in intervention studies or campaigns aiming at prudent use of antibiotics on dairy farms.
