Abstract
Pigmentation in rice grains is an important quality parameter. Purple-coloured rice (Oryza sativa L.) indicates the presence of high anthocyanin with benefits of antioxidant properties. However, the genetic mechanism of grain colour is not fully understood. Therefore, the study focused on understanding pigmentation in grain pericarp and vegetative parts, and its relationship with blast resistance and enhanced grain yield. Three local cultivars from the northeastern region (NER) of India - Chakhao Poireiton (purple), Mang Meikri (light brown), and Kala Joha (white) - along with high-yielding varieties (HYVs) Shasharang (light brown) and Sahbhagi dhan (white) were used to develop biparental populations. The findings suggested that pigmentation in vegetative tissue was governed by the inter-allelic interaction of several genes. Haplotype analysis revealed that Kala3 complemented Kala4 in enhancing purple pigmentation and that Kala4 is not the only gene responsible for purple colour as evident by the presence of a desired allele for markers RID3 and RID4 (Kala4 locus) in Chakhao Poireiton and Kala Joha irrespective of their pericarp colour, implying the involvement of some other additional, unidentified genes/loci. RID3 and RID4 together with RM15191 (Kala3 locus) could be employed as a reliable marker set for marker-assisted selection (MAS). Pericarp colour was strongly correlated with colour in different vegetative parts, but showed a negative correlation with grain yield. Pb1, reported to be associated with panicle blast resistance, contributed to leaf blast resistance. Transgressive segregants for improved pigmentation and high yield were identified. The selection of lines exhibiting coloured pericarp, high anthocyanin content, aroma, blast resistance, and increased yield compared to their respective HYV parents will be valuable resources in the rice breeding programme.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aims to decipher the genetic basis governing yield components and quality attributes of peanuts, a critical aspect for advancing molecular breeding techniques. Integrating genotype re-sequencing and phenotypic evaluations of seven yield components and two grain quality traits across four distinct environments allowed for the execution of a genome-wide association study (GWAS). RESULTS The nine phenotypic traits were all continuous and followed a normal distribution. The broad heritability ranged from 88.09 to 98.08%, and the genotype-environment interaction effects were all significant. There was a highly significant negative correlation between protein content (PC) and oil content (OC). The 10× genome re-sequencing of 199 peanut accessions yielded a total of 631,988 high-quality single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), with 374 significant SNP loci identified in association with the nine traits of interest. Notably, 66 of these pertinent SNPs were detected in multiple environments, and 48 of them were linked to multiple traits of interest. Five loci situated on chromosome 16 (Chr16) exhibited pleiotropic effects on yield traits, accounting for 17.64-32.61% of the observed phenotypic variation. Two loci on Chr08 were found to be strongly associated with protein and oil contents, accounting for 12.86% and 14.06% of their respective phenotypic variations, respectively. Linkage disequilibrium (LD) block analysis of these seven loci unraveled five nonsynonymous variants, leading to the identification of one yield-related candidate gene and two quality-related candidate genes. The correlation between phenotypic variation and SNP loci in these candidate genes was validated by Kompetitive allele-specific PCR (KASP) marker analysis. CONCLUSIONS Overall, molecular markers were developed for genetic loci associated with yield and quality traits through a GWAS investigation of 199 peanut accessions across four distinct environments. These molecular tools can aid in the development of desirable peanut germplasm with an equilibrium of yield and quality through marker-assisted breeding.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Induction of mutation through chemical mutagenesis is a novel approach for preparing diverse germplasm. Introduction of functional alleles in the starch biosynthetic genes help in the improvement of the quality and yield of cereals. RESULTS In the present study, a set of 350 stable mutant lines were used to evaluate dynamic variation of the total starch contents. A megazyme kits were used for measuring the total starch content, resistant starch, amylose, and amylopectin content. Analysis of variance showed significant variation (p < 0.05) in starch content within the population. Furthermore, two high starch mutants (JE0173 and JE0218) and two low starch mutants (JE0089 and JE0418) were selected for studying different traits. A multiple comparison test showed that significant variation in all physiological and morphological traits, with respect to the parent variety (J411) in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. The quantitative expression of starch metabolic genes revealed that eleven genes of JE0173 and twelve genes of JE0218 had consistent expression in high starch mutant lines. Similarly, in low starch mutant lines, eleven genes of JE0089 and thirteen genes of JE0418 had consistent expression in all stages of seed development. An additional two candidate genes showed over-expression (PHO1, PUL) in the high starch mutant lines, indicating that other starch metabolic genes may also contribute to the starch biosynthesis. The overexpression of SSII, SSIII and SBEI in JE0173 may be due to presence of missense mutations in these genes and SSI also showed overexpression which may be due to 3-primer_UTR variant. These mutations can affect the other starch related genes and help to increase the starch content in this mutant line (JE0173). CONCLUSIONS This study screened a large scale of mutant population and identified mutants, could provide useful genetic resources for the study of starch biosynthesis and genetic improvement of wheat in the future. Further study will help to understand new genes which are responsible for the fluctuation of total starch.

Abstract
This study aimed to find the specific relationship between quality traits and myofibrillar proteins (MPs) alteration of salted fish during frozen storage. Protein denaturation and oxidation occurred in frozen fillets, with the denaturation occurring before oxidation. In the pre-phase of storage (0-12 weeks), protein structural changes (secondary structure and surface hydrophobicity) were closely related to the water-holding capacity (WHC) and textural properties of fillets. The MPs oxidation (sulfhydryl loss, carbonyl and Schiff base formation) were dominated and associated with changes in pH, color, WHC, and textural properties during the later stage of frozen storage (12-24 weeks). Besides, the brining at 0.5 M improved the WHC of fillets with less undesirable changes in MPs and quality traits compared to other concentrations. The 12 weeks was an advisable storage time for salted frozen fish and our results might provide an available suggestion for fish preservation in aquatic industry.

Abstract
Thirty Hanwoo cattle including bulls, cows, and steers (n = 10 each) were slaughtered and investigated for carcass traits (weight, meat color, fat color, yield index, maturity, marbling score, back-fat thickness, and firmness) and meat quality. The meat quality such as: pH, color, cooking loss, fatty acid, thiobarbituric acid reactive substance, warner-bratzler shear force, tensile tests, and texture profiles were analyzed on longissimus lumborum (LL) muscles of the carcasses at different aging times (3 d and 21 d). The results showed that steers and cows had higher back-fat thickness and marbling score, and a lower firmness (p < 0.001) than bulls. Bulls exhibited a lower meat quality indicating by higher cooking loss, thiobarbituric acid reactive substance content, warner-bratzler shear force and tensile test values (p < 0.01). Regarding the sensory property, the bull meat also had higher hardness, and lower tenderness, juiciness and flavor scores than the cow or steer meat (p < 0.01). Additionally, the bull meat had a higher polyunsaturated fatty acid and a lower monounsaturated fatty acid contents (p < 0.01). With increased aging time, the meat tenderness was improved in all the genders. Taken together, the present study demonstrated that the gender and aging time affected the carcass traits, fatty acid and sensory quality of beef. Postmortem aging could improve the meat tenderness of all genders especially bulls.

Abstract
We aimed to develop portable Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy-based prediction algorithms for the key quality characteristics (soluble solids, water activity, pH, sucrose, glucose, fructose, fructose/glucose, hydroxymethylfurfural) of various types of molasses, establish their legitimacy, and create a model to separate them based on their botanical origin. Samples labeled as carob (n = 27), grape (n = 24), Juniper (n = 13), and mulberry (n = 12) were purchased from different local markets in Turkey. Labeling issues were revealed in five carob and seven grape molasses, and those samples classified as non-authentic by the FT-IR algorithms were corroborated by reference analysis. Partial least squares regression models generated to predict the key quality traits of Turkish molasses demonstrated excellent correlation with reference analysis (R2Val ≥ 0.96) and low standard error of prediction (SEP ≤ 2.88). The FT-IR sensor provided a feasible approach for molasses testing to assess its quality through manufacturing and storage, also provided a powerful tool to -ensure proper product labeling.

Abstract
The labeled quantitative proteomic method was used to study the changes in muscle proteins of large yellow croaker (Pseudosciaena crocea) treated with electrolytic water (EW) and chitosan (CHI) combined preservation during 12 days of refrigeration storage (4 °C). The analysis indicated that the freshness instructed by total viable count (TVC), total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) and K value was significantly maintained after combined preservation during storage at 4 °C for 12 days (CS12). Furthermore, 46 differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) were detected in storage at 4 °C for 12 days (S12) compared to the freshness group (F), which bioinformatics confirmed were mainly skeletal proteins and enzymes. Correlation analysis showed that 19 highly correlated DAPs could be used as potential protein markers of freshness. Changes in the relation of freshness and protein were shown in further correlative analysis of F and CS12, which were caused by combined preservation. Therefore, combined preservation is promising in the quality and stability of large yellow croakers.

Abstract
Genome editing using CRISPR/Cas technology improves the quality of potato as a food crop and enables its use as both a model plant in fundamental research and as a potential biofactory for producing valuable compounds for industrial applications. Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) plays a significant role in ensuring global food and nutritional security. Tuber yield is negatively affected by biotic and abiotic stresses, and enzymatic browning and cold-induced sweetening significantly contribute to post-harvest quality losses. With the dual challenges of a growing population and a changing climate, potato enhancement is essential for its sustainable production. However, due to several characteristics of potato, including high levels of heterozygosity, tetrasomic inheritance, inbreeding depression, and self-incompatibility of diploid potato, conventional breeding practices are insufficient to achieve substantial trait improvement in tetraploid potato cultivars within a relatively short time. CRISPR/Cas-mediated genome editing has opened new possibilities to develop novel potato varieties with high commercialization potential. In this review, we summarize recent developments in optimizing CRISPR/Cas-based methods for potato genome editing, focusing on approaches addressing the challenging biology of this species. We also discuss the feasibility of obtaining transgene-free genome-edited potato varieties and explore different strategies to improve potato stress resistance, nutritional value, starch composition, and storage and processing characteristics. Altogether, this review provides insight into recent advances, possible bottlenecks, and future research directions in potato genome editing using CRISPR/Cas technology.

Abstract
Modern agriculture is currently undergoing rapid changes in the face of the continuing growth of world population and many ensuing environmental challenges. Crop quality is becoming as important as crop yield and can be characterised by several parameters. For fruits and vegetables, quality descriptors can concern production cycle (e.g. conventional or organic farming), organoleptic qualities (e.g. sweet taste, sugar content, acidity) and nutritional qualities (e.g. mineral content, vitamins). For other crops, however, the presence of secondary metabolites such as anthocyanins or certain terpenes in the targeted tissues is of interest as well, especially for their human health properties. All plants are constantly interacting with microorganisms. These microorganisms include arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi as well as certain soil bacteria that provide ecosystem services related to plant growth, nutrition and quality parameters. This review is an update of current research on the single and combined (co-inoculation) use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria in crop production, with a focus on their positive impacts on crop quality traits (e.g. nutritional value, organoleptic properties). We also highlight the need to dissect mechanisms regulating plant-symbionts and symbiont-symbiont interactions, to develop farming practices and to study a broad range of interactions to optimize the symbiotic potential of root-associated microorganisms.

Abstract
The effect of dual-frequency sequential ultrasonic thawing (DUT) on the quality of quick-frozen small yellow croaker was studied by TMT-labeled quantitative proteomic method. A total number of 75 proteins were identified as differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) in fish meat treated by DUT, while 72 DAPs were in flow water thawing (FWT). The Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis indicated that the DAPs in the significant enrichment pathway of DUT group were enzymes. Compared with FWT, DUT had a significant effect on the enzyme content. The correlation analyses indicated that 40 DAPs were related with the quality traits. The 11 highly correlated DAPs are expected to be used as potential protein markers for texture profile analyses, color, thawing loss, water-holding capacity, and pH of thawed small yellow croaker quality. These results provide a further understanding of the quality stability of quick-frozen small yellow croaker treated by the DUT.

Abstract
Foxtail millet (Setaria italica L.) is an important reserve cereal crop, and its nutritional and medicinal properties have seen its demand increase in recent years. Therefore, it is important to establish an evaluation system for the comprehensive assessment of its quality. We assessed 90 accessions of foxtail millet from China for 23 quality traits. The results showed that the 23 quality traits had diverse coefficients of variation, with the greatest variation in a*, phosphorus content, and potassium contents, at 37.71, 28.81, and 20.18%, respectively. Cluster analysis defined five categories that were consistent with the geographical origins of the accessions. Seven principal components were also extracted from the 23 traits using principal component analysis. A comprehensive quality evaluation system was established, and 8 high-quality accessions were identified. The findings of the present study could facilitate the breeding of high-quality foxtail millet and enhance quality evaluation activities.

Abstract
High temperature induced by climatic fluctuations are an important threat for plant growth, development and quality of agricultural produces. Adaptableness to environmental changes generally derives from a large set of genetic traits affecting physio-morphological, biochemical and agronomic parameters. Therefore, the identification of genotypes with higher yield and good quality parameters at high temperatures is becoming increasingly necessary for future breeding programs. Here, we analyzed the performance of different tomato genotypes grown under elevated temperatures in terms of yield and nutritional quality of the fruit. High temperature stress was induced from flower initiation to maturity stage by keeping the pots in a temperature controlled green house facility for 45 days. The quality and yield parameters were taken at the harvesting stage. Starch and soluble sugar concentration in the leaves of tomato genotypes showed significant reduction in its amount under heat stress. Titrable acidity (TA), total soluble solids (TSS) and ascorbic acid content of tomato fruits were highest under high temperature conditions compared to ambient condition but lycopene content decreased with rise in temperature. The yield attributes viz., number of fruits/plant, fruit set %, average fruit weight (g), yield per plant (g/plant) were significantly lower for Arka Saurabh, Arka Rakshak and Pusa Rohini when compared to other genotypes under study. Molecular characterization of selected 22 tomato genotypes were assessed using 25 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. Phylogenetic tree was constructed by the unweighted neighbour-joining method (UPGMA) using NTSYSpc cluster analysis software. The Jaccard's similarity matrix was constructed using the SIMQUAL method using UPGMA algorithm in NTSYSpc. Jaccard's similarity matrix among these tomato genotypes ranged from a minimum of 0.22 to a maximum of 1 with an average genetic similarity of 0.67. Hence this study has importance in identifying genotypes that could maintain good quality and higher yield under high temperature condition.

Abstract
Pea (Pisum sativum L.) is a widely grown pulse crop that is a source of protein, starch and micronutrients in both human diets and livestock feeds. There is currently a strong global focus on making agriculture and food production systems more sustainable, and pea has one of the smallest carbon footprints of all crops. Multiple genetic loci have been identified that influence pea seed protein content, but protein composition is also important nutritionally. Studies have previously identified gene families encoding individual seed protein classes, now documented in a reference pea genome assembly. Much is also known about loci affecting starch metabolism in pea, with research especially focusing on improving concentrations of resistant starch, which has a positive effect on maintaining blood glucose homeostasis. Diversity in natural germplasm for micronutrient concentrations and mineral hyperaccumulation mutants have been discovered, with quantitative trait loci on multiple linkage groups identified for seed micronutrient concentrations. Antinutrients, which affect nutrient bioavailability, must also be considered; mutants in which the concentrations of important antinutrients including phytate and trypsin inhibitors are reduced have already been discovered. Current knowledge on the genetics of nutritional traits in pea will greatly assist with crop improvement for specific end uses, and further identification of genes involved will help advance our knowledge of the control of the synthesis of seed compounds.

Abstract
This study was designed to investigate proteome changes in Japanese puffer fish (Takifugu rubripes) during short- and long-term frozen storage. In total, 1484 proteins were quantified, and 164 proteins were identified as differential abundance proteins (DAPs) in Japanese puffer fish from two frozen storage treatment groups (14 days and 60 days) compared with the fresh control group. Correlation analysis between the DAPs and quality traits of the puffer fish muscle showed that 106 proteins were correlated closely with colour and texture (hardness, elasticity, and chewiness). Bioinformatics analysis revealed and Western blot analysis verified that Putative prothymosin alpha species, Bridging integrator 3, NADH: the ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit and Mx species are candidate biomarkers for puffer fish properties. This study offers valuable evidence to improve the quality control and monitoring of Japanese puffer fish during transportation and storage.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The general combining ability (GCA) of parents in hybrid rice affects not only heterotic level of grain yield and other important agronomic traits, but also performance of grain quality traits of F2 bulk population which is the commodity consumed by humans. In order to make GCA improvement for quality traits in parents of hybrid rice by molecular marker assisted selection feasible, genome-wide GCA loci for quality traits in parents were detected through association analysis between the effects of GCA and constructed single nucleotide polymorphism linkage disequilibrium blocks (SNPLDBs), by using unhusked rice grains harvested from F1 plants of 48 crosses of Indica rice and 78 crosses of Japonica rice. GCA-SNPLDBs association analysis. RESULTS Among the 8 CMS and 6 restorer lines of indica rice subspecies, CMS lines Zhenpin A, Zhenshan97 A, and 257A, and restorers Kanghui98, Minghui63 and Yanhui559 were recognized as good general combiners based on their GCA effect values for the 9 quality traits (brown rice rate, milled rice rate, head rice rate, percentage of chalky grains, chalky area size, chalkiness degree, gelatinization temperature, gel consistency and amylose content). Among the 13 CMS and 6 restorer lines of japonica rice subspecies, CMS 863A, 6427A and Xu 2A, and restorers C418, Ninghui8hao and Yunhui4hao showed elite GCA effect values for the 9 traits. GCA-SNPLDB association analysis revealed 39 significant SNPLDB loci associated with the GCA of the 9 quality-related traits, and the numbers of SNPLDB loci located on chromosome 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11 and 12 were 1, 4, 3, 9, 6, 5, 5, 4 and 2, respectively. Number of superior GCA alleles for the 9 traits among the 33 parents ranged from 1 to 26. CONCLUSIONS Thirty-nine significant SNPLDBs loci were identified associated with the GCA of 9 quality-related traits, and the superior SNPLDB alleles could be used to improve the GCA of parents for the traits in the future by molecular marker assisted selection. The genetic basis of trait GCA in parents is different from that of trait itself.

Abstract
Cereal crops are the rich source of nutritional components that play an important role in micronutrient malnutrition. Biofortification is one of the most successful approaches to enhance the level of micronutrients, mainly targeted in bread wheat. Bread wheat is one of main sources of calories and proteins in the developing countries. In the present study, 50 bread wheat genotypes characterized for the zinc and iron content, the most important micronutrients. On the basis of the results, the nineteen genotypes were selected and evaluated for biochemical as well as quality parameters. The protein content, gluten quantity and quality found to be reduced in high zinc containing genotypes, whereas the total soluble sugars, total carotenoids, proline and grain hardness found to be in positive relation with high micronutrient content. These results could be useful to generate bread wheat varieties rich in micronutrients as well as better nutritional and quality traits.

Abstract
Fifteen cultivated (Ten desi, five kabuli) and fifteen wild species of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) were compared for nutritional traits, antinutritional factors and antioxidant potential. The average crude protein content in desi, kabuli and wild species was found to be 25.31%, 24.67% and 24.30%, respectively; total soluble sugars in these genotypes were 38.08, 43.75 and 33.20 mg/g, respectively and total starch content in these genotypes was 34.43, 33.43 and 28.77%. Wild species had higher antioxidant potential as compared to cultivated genotypes due to higher free radical scavenging activity, ferric reducing antioxidant power and reducing power. Kabuli genotypes had lower antioxidant potential than desi genotypes. Desi genotype, GL 12021 had high crude protein and total starch content, lower phytic acid and saponin content and higher antioxidant potential. GNG 2171 had high crude protein and total soluble sugar content and lower tannin and phytic acid content. Kabuli genotype L 552 possessed high total soluble sugar and total starch content, high Zn and Fe content and lower tannin, saponin and trypsin inhibitor content. Wild species C. pin ILWC 261 had high crude protein, lower phytic acid and trypsin inhibitor content and higher DPPH radical scavenging activity and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity. The observed diversity for quality traits in cultivated and wild genotypes can be further used.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Soybean is not only an important oil crop, but also an important source of edible protein and industrial raw material. Yield-traits and quality-traits are increasingly attracting the attention of breeders. Therefore, fine mapping the QTLs associated with yield-traits and quality-traits of soybean would be helpful for soybean breeders. In the present study, a high-density linkage map was constructed to identify the QTLs for the yield-traits and quality-traits, using specific length amplified fragment sequencing (SLAF-seq). RESULTS SLAF-seq was performed to screen SLAF markers with 149 F8:11 individuals from a cross between a semi wild soybean, 'Huapidou', and a cultivated soybean, 'Qihuang26', which generated 400.91 M paired-end reads. In total, 53,132 polymorphic SLAF markers were obtained. The genetic linkage map was constructed by 5111 SLAF markers with segregation type of aa×bb. The final map, containing 20 linkage groups (LGs), was 2909.46 cM in length with an average distance of 0.57 cM between adjacent markers. The average coverage for each SLAF marker on the map was 81.26-fold in the male parent, 45.79-fold in the female parent, and 19.84-fold average in each F8:11 individual. According to the high-density map, 35 QTLs for plant height (PH), 100-seeds weight (SW), oil content in seeds (Oil) and protein content in seeds (Protein) were found to be distributed on 17 chromosomes, and 14 novel QTLs were identified for the first time. The physical distance of 11 QTLs was shorter than 100 Kb, suggesting a direct opportunity to find candidate genes. Furthermore, three pairs of epistatic QTLs associated with Protein involving 6 loci on 5 chromosomes were identified. Moreover, 13, 14, 7 and 9 genes, which showed tissue-specific expression patterns, might be associated with PH, SW, Oil and Protein, respectively. CONCLUSIONS With SLAF-sequencing, some novel QTLs and important QTLs for both yield-related and quality traits were identified based on a new, high-density linkage map. Moreover, 43 genes with tissue-specific expression patterns were regarded as potential genes in further study. Our findings might be beneficial to molecular marker-assisted breeding, and could provide detailed information for accurate QTL localization.

Abstract
Soil salinity and atmosphere temperature change have negative impacts on crop productivity and its quality and can pose a significant risk to soil properties in semi-arid regions. We conducted two field experiments in North (first zone) and South (second zone) of Egypt to investigate the effects of soil bagasse ash (10 ton ha-1), foliar thiourea (240 g ha-1) and their combination in comparison to the control treatment on saline soil properties and productivity and quality traits of wheat. All studied treatments were received the recommended rate of N, P and K fertilizations. Combination of soil bagasse ash and foliar thiourea application resulted in a significant improvement of most studied soil properties (i.e. EC, compaction, hydraulic conductivity, OM and available P, K, N contents) after harvest in comparison to other treatments in both of zones. Also, it enhanced growth and grain yield of wheat in terms of photosynthesis related attributes and yield components. Moreover, combination of soil bagasse ash and foliar thiourea application resulted in superior grain quality traits in terms of carbohydrate, fibre, protein and ash contents than separated application of soil bagasse ash, foliar thiourea or even control treatment. In conclusion, combination of soil bagasse ash and foliar thiourea application can be used as suitable option to enhance plant nutrition, wheat productivity and improve wheat grain quality and soil traits in saline soil as well as can alleviate heat stress.

Abstract
This work firstly investigates the use of MRI, fractal algorithms and data mining techniques to determine pork quality parameters non-destructively. The main objective was to evaluate the capability of fractal algorithms (Classical Fractal algorithm, CFA; Fractal Texture Algorithm, FTA and One Point Fractal Texture Algorithm, OPFTA) to analyse MRI in order to predict quality parameters of loin. In addition, the effect of the sequence acquisition of MRI (Gradient echo, GE; Spin echo, SE and Turbo 3D, T3D) and the predictive technique of data mining (Isotonic regression, IR and Multiple linear regression, MLR) were analysed. Both fractal algorithm, FTA and OPFTA are appropriate to analyse MRI of loins. The sequence acquisition, the fractal algorithm and the data mining technique seems to influence on the prediction results. For most physico-chemical parameters, prediction equations with moderate to excellent correlation coefficients were achieved by using the following combinations of acquisition sequences of MRI, fractal algorithms and data mining techniques: SE-FTA-MLR, SE-OPFTA-IR, GE-OPFTA-MLR, SE-OPFTA-MLR, with the last one offering the best prediction results. Thus, SE-OPFTA-MLR could be proposed as an alternative technique to determine physico-chemical traits of fresh and dry-cured loins in a non-destructive way with high accuracy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND One of the overarching goals of soybean breeding is to develop lines that combine increased yield with improved quality characteristics. High-density-marker QTL mapping can serve as an effective strategy to identify novel genomic information to facilitate crop improvement. In this study, we genotyped a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population (Zhonghuang 24 × Huaxia 3) using a restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (RAD-seq) approach. A high-density soybean genetic map was constructed and used to identify several QTLs that were shown to influence six yield-related and two quality traits. RESULTS A total of 47,472 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were detected for the RILs that were integrated into 2639 recombination bin units, with an average distance of 1.00 cM between adjacent markers. Forty seven QTLs for yield-related traits and 13 QTLs for grain quality traits were found to be distributed on 16 chromosomes in the 2 year studies. Among them, 18 QTLs were stable, and were identified in both analyses. Twenty six QTLs were identified for the first time, with a single QTL (qNN19a) in a 56 kb region explaining 32.56% of phenotypic variation, and an additional 10 of these were novel, stable QTLs. Moreover, 8 QTL hotpots on four different chromosomes were identified for the correlated traits. CONCLUSIONS With RAD-sequencing, some novel QTLs and important QTL clusters for both yield-related and quality traits were identified based on a new, high-density bin linkage map. Three predicted genes were selected as candidates that likely have a direct or indirect influence on both yield and quality in soybean. Our findings will be helpful for understanding common genetic control mechanisms of co-localized traits and to select cultivars for further analysis to predictably modulate soybean yield and quality simultaneously.

Abstract
In recent years, plant biotechnology has witnessed unprecedented technological change. Advances in high-throughput sequencing technologies have provided insight into the location and structure of functional elements within plant DNA. At the same time, improvements in genome engineering tools have enabled unprecedented control over genetic material. These technologies, combined with a growing understanding of plant systems biology, will irrevocably alter the way we create new crop varieties. As the first wave of genome-edited products emerge, we are just getting a glimpse of the immense opportunities the technology provides. We are also seeing its challenges and limitations. It is clear that genome editing will play an increased role in crop improvement and will help us to achieve food security in the coming decades; however, certain challenges and limitations must be overcome to realize the technology's full potential.

Abstract
Coarse grains are important group of crops that constitutes staple food for large population residing primarily in the arid and semi-arid regions of the world. Coarse grains are designated as nutri-cereals as they are rich in essential amino acids, minerals and vitamins. In spite of having several nutritional virtues in coarse grain as mentioned above, there is still scope for improvement in quality parameters such as cooking qualities, modulation of nutritional constituents and reduction or elimination of anti-nutritional factors. Besides its use in traditional cooking, coarse grains have been used mainly in the weaning food preparation and other malted food production. Improvement in quality parameters will certainly increase consumer's preference for coarse grains and increase their demand. The overall genetic gain in quality traits of economic importance in the cultivated varieties will enhance their industrial value and simultaneously increase income of farmers growing these varieties. The urgent step for improvement of quality traits in coarse grains requires a detailed understanding of molecular mechanisms responsible for varied level of different nutritional contents in different genotypes of these crops. In this review we have discussed the progresses made in understanding of coarse grain biology with various omics tool coupled with modern breeding approaches and the current status with regard to our effort towards dissecting traits related to improvement of quality and nutritional constituents of grains.
