Electrical Switching of the Off-Resonance Room-Temperature Valley Polarization in Monolayer MoS2 by a Double-Resonance Chiral Microstructure

Enhancing and expanding the manipulated range of room-temperature valley polarization at off-resonance wavelength is extremely crucial to developing various functional valleytronic devices. Although these have been realized through the double-resonance strategy or twist-angle engineering, the demand for electrical control over the concepts remains elusive. Here, we fabricate a gate-tunable double-resonance chiral microstructure using a molybdenum disulfides (MoS₂) monolayer. On the basis of the varied interface charge density, we demonstrate the huge photoluminescence (PL) tuning ability of this configuration. Furthermore, benefiting predominately from the screening of long-range e-h exchange interactions and the chiral Purcell effect, the electrical switching of the room-temperature valley polarization at off-resonance wavelength is also realized. Our work enriches the functions of TMDs-based optoelectronic devices and may create important applications in future valley-polarized encode and information processing devices.

Voltage and Deflection Amplification via Double Resonance Excitation in a Cantilever Microstructure

Cantilever electrostatically-actuated resonators show great promise in sensing and actuating applications. However, the electrostatic actuation suffers from high-voltage actuation requirements and high noise low-amplitude signal-outputs which limit its applications. Here, we introduce a mixed-frequency signal for a cantilever-based resonator that triggers its mechanical and electrical resonances simultaneously, to overcome these limitations. A single linear RLC circuit cannot completely capture the response of the resonator under double resonance excitation. Therefore, we develop a coupled mechanical and electrical mathematical linearized model at different operation frequencies and validate this model experimentally. The double-resonance excitation results in a 21 times amplification of the voltage across the resonator and 31 times amplitude amplification over classical excitation schemes. This intensive experimental study showed a great potential of double resonance excitation providing a high amplitude amplification and maintaining the linearity of the system when the parasitic capacitance is maintained low.

New Method for Double-Resonance Spectroscopy in a Cold Quadrupole Ion Trap and Its Application to UV-UV Hole-Burning Spectroscopy of Protonated Adenine Dimer

A novel method for double-resonance spectroscopy in a cold quadrupole ion trap is presented, which utilizes dipolar resonant excitation of fragment ions in the quadrupole ion trap. Photofragments by a burn laser are removed by applying an auxiliary RF to the trap, and a probe laser detects the depletion of photofragments by the burn laser. By scanning the wavelength of the burn laser, conformation-specific UV spectrum of a cold ion is obtained. This simple and powerful method is applicable to any type of double-resonance spectroscopy in a cold quadrupole ion trap and was applied to UV-UV hole-burning spectroscopy of protonated adenine dimer. It was found that protonated adenine dimer has multiple conformers/tautomers, each with multiple excited states with drastically different excited state dynamics.

Proton-detected separated local field spectroscopy

PISEMO, a separated local field experiment that can be performed with either direct (15)N (or (13)C) detection or indirect (1)H detection, is demonstrated on a single crystal of a model peptide. The (1)H signals modulated by (1)H-(15)N heteronuclear dipole-dipole couplings are observed stroboscopically in the windows of the multiple-pulse sequence used to attenuate (1)H-(1)H homonuclear dipole-dipole couplings. (1)H-detection yields spectra with about 2.5 times the signal to noise ratio observed with (15)N-detection under equivalent conditions. Resolution in both the (15)N chemical shift and (1)H-(15)N heteronuclear dipole-dipole coupling dimensions is similar to that observed with PISEMA, however, since only on-resonance pulses are utilized, the bandwidth is better.
