[Sophrology, an experience of corporality for student nurses]

The body approach is a real challenge in nursing training. It is part of the relationship between the caregiver and the cared-for. Through their bodies, students experience all their sensations and perceptions. Questioning nursing students through the phenomenological approach of sophrology means enabling them to achieve body-mind harmonization, a fundamental pillar of this mind-body technique. The regular practice of sophrology teaches them to act autonomously on themselves, developing their personal resources for a better body-mind and/or mind-body well-being.

Physical Activity and Social Interaction among Rural Older Adults in Saskatchewan during COVID-19

Physical activity and social interaction among rural older adults are important, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when restrictions on physical gatherings were placed. The purpose of this qualitative study was to gain a deeper understanding of rural older adults' experience with physical activity and social interaction during the COVID-19 pandemic. An interpretative phenomenological approach was used to explore the experience of 10 older adults, 67-82 years of age, from rural communities throughout Saskatchewan. Findings revealed that many rural older adults acknowledged the health benefits of physical and social activities and experienced loneliness when COVID-19 restrictions were placed, even when living with a partner. For some, the restrictions placed on physical and social activity provided a welcome break from daily responsibilities. Rural communities, often at a disadvantage, were also perceived by participants as being protected against COVID-19. The resilience demonstrated among rural participants to persevere and adapt to their changing environment during the pandemic was evident in the findings.

Drawing on Castoriadis' considerations of the radical imaginary, we can show that contemporary objectivist nosography is not sufficient to grasp the full complexity of this disorder. Concept d'adaptation chez les conjoints de femmes iraniennes atteintes du cancer du sein: étude qualitative basée sur une approche phénoménologique

Introduction

Le cancer du sein provoque une crise multidimensionnelle qui ébranle non seulement la patiente, mais aussi le conjoint et les autres membres de sa famille. Il convient donc d'étudier l'adaptation à ce phénomène, qui constitue l'une des principales difficultés pour les proches. En comprenant mieux comment les conjoints de femmes atteintes d'un cancer du sein font face à cette crise, ces derniers pourraient mieux prendre soin de leurs épouses et améliorer leur qualité de vie.

L'étude visait à explorer le concept d'adaptation à partir d'expériences vécues par les conjoints de femmes souffrant d'un cancer du sein.

Méthodologie

Cette étude qualitative a été réalisée en 2019 selon une approche phénoménologique dans les villes de Hamadan et Rasht, en Iran. Le groupe de participants comptait 20 conjoints de femmes atteintes du cancer du sein, recrutés grâce à une méthode d'échantillonnage par choix raisonné. Les données ont été recueillies au moyen d'entretiens non structurés en personne; elles ont été analysées à l'aide de la méthode phénoménologique en six étapes de van Manen.

Résultats

Les expériences vécues par les participants ont montré que le phénomène d'adaptation des conjoints au cancer du sein de leur femme se décline en cinq thèmes: souffrance émotionnelle, fardeau des soins, maintien de la cohésion familial, incertitude de l'avenir et sentiment de perte du concept de soi. La compréhension du concept d'adaptation chez les conjoints de femmes atteintes du cancer du sein dans les stratégies de santé peut aider les femmes à bien s'adapter, tout en aidant les professionnels à adopter des mesures efficaces dans le domaine des soins médicaux, pour les patientes et leurs conjoints.

[Accessing the sensitive part of the Being before us]

The acceleration of the standardisation of care and the dominance of the quality approach, since the 1990s, have brought significant changes to nursing practices, the different therapeutic approaches and the 'place' of caregivers with regard to the patient. In this context of modern psychiatry which must comply with all kinds of recommendations, what is the situation of the patient suffering from psychosis, who would previously have been supported over the long term in a psychopathological process? The encounter, envisaged as an opening, is placed at the heart of the therapeutic relationship.

Arthur Kronfeld's Psychological Approach to Neuropsychiatry: Philosophical Pretensions or Epistemological Perspicacity?

Arthur Kronfeld (1886-1941) was a major representative of the psychological approach to psychiatry during the interwar period. In his major work from 1930, Perspectives on Nervous and Mental Diseases (Perspektiven der Seelenheilkunde), Kronfeld developed a psychological analysis of the structure of intentionality underlying psychotic manifestations. Yet even though some consider Kronfeld to be perhaps the most outstanding theoretician of psychological psychiatry, psychiatrists from the 1930s to the present day have manifested a peculiar reluctance to deal with the concept of intentionality. This article will illustrate Kronfeld's scientific individuality through a survey of some important aspects of his biography, his philosophical background, and his psychiatric work.

Bounded in a nutshell and a king of infinite space: the embodied self and its intentional world

This paper explores the implications of developments in phenomenological biology for a reconsideration of synchronicity and the self. The enactive approach of Maturana and Varela aims to reformulate the relation between biological organisms and the world in a non-Cartesian way, breaking down the conceptual division between mind and world so that meaning can be seen as a function of the species-specific way in which an organism engages with its environment. This leads to a view of the self as inherently embodied and engaged with the particularities of its material, cultural and social worlds, while being infinitely extended through the power of imagination; this enables humans to adapt to many different social and material environments. In order to understand these differences, we need to 'enter into the world of the other'. Where understanding of other animals requires immersion in their environmental milieux, understanding other humans requires us also to recognize that differences in socio-cultural milieux create significantly different worlds of meaning and experience.
