Abstract
Splenosis pertains to the phenomenon wherein a segment of the spleen undergoes detachment and becomes embedded in other anatomical regions subsequent to traumatic rupture or therapeutic resection, and then progressively establishing blood circulation to foster the regeneration of splenic tissue. Existing literature posits that splenosis predominantly manifests within the confines of the abdominal and pelvic cavities. The objective of the current study was to present an uncommon case involving the occurrence of splenosis within the gastric myometrium, thereby contributing to the current knowledge regarding splenosis. A 16-year-old female sought medical assistance owing to recurrent abdominal pain persisting for a duration of six months, and had a history of splenectomy two years prior. Gastroscopy, endoscopic ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) examination collectively identified a lesion in the submucosal prominence of the fundus of the stomach. Initial considerations based on imaging examinations leaned towards a gastrointestinal stromal tumor. Consequently, an endoscopic resection was undertaken. Remarkably, the pathological findings and histochemistry concurred with the alterations associated with ectopic spleen implantation, leading to a stable postoperative course. In conclusion, splenosis denotes the implantation of a segment of the spleen into extraneous anatomical sites, attributable to traumatic rupture or therapeutic resection. The preoperative diagnosis of splenosis can pose a challenge, potentially culminating in unnecessary radical clinical interventions. Therefore, the acquisition of a comprehensive medical history, with a particular focus on surgical and trauma events, emerges as pivotal for an accurate diagnosis. In light of novel diagnostic modalities, the non-invasive technology of nuclear medicine can efficaciously visualize ectopic splenic tissue, thereby averting superfluous surgical procedures. It is both feasible and imperative to implement individualized treatment strategies for patients afflicted with splenosis.

Abstract
Ectopic spleen (ES) is a rare condition. It is difficult to diagnose with conventional imaging modalities. In this case series, we presented the imaging features of three misdiagnosed ES cases in our hospital and previously reported cases to compare the consistency of enhancement patterns among different imaging modalities with varied phases. Finally, 22 cases were reviewed. We determined that variable arterial phase enhancement and persistent enhancement throughout the portal and delayed phases are present in contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging of the ES and found the arterial phase of CEUS had the highest consistency compared with computerized tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Abstract
Accessory spleen and splenosis are two types of ectopic spleen. An accessory spleen can be found in various sites in the abdomen, but an intrahepatic accessory spleen is very rare though many case reports of intrahepatic splenosis are available. This case report presents the incidental diagnosis of accessory spleen in the liver of a 57-year-old male while undergoing laparoscopic diaphragmatic repair. The patient had a history of splenectomy 27 years ago for hereditary spherocytosis, but his routine haemogram did not show any features of the ectopic splenic function. Intraoperatively, a mass was suspected in the liver and was resected. Histopathology revealed an accessory spleen with well-preserved red and white pulp architecture. Though a history of splenectomy suggested a diagnosis of splenosis, a well-encapsulated and preserved splenic architecture confirmed the diagnosis of accessory spleen. Accessory spleen or splenosis can be diagnosed radiologically using Tc-99m-labeled heat-denatured red blood cells (HRBC) and Tc-99m sulfur colloid scans, but the gold standard is histopathological examination. Ectopic spleen is mostly asymptomatic but usually results in unnecessary surgeries as it is difficult to differentiate from benign or malignant tumors. Thus, a high degree of suspicion and awareness is necessary for early and prompt diagnosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Splenosis refers to autotransplantation of splenic tissue after splenic injury or splenectomy, most frequently occurring in the abdominal and pelvic cavities. Thoracic splenosis is a rare condition associated with a history of simultaneous rupture of the spleen and diaphragm resulting from trauma. To the best of our knowledge, only a limited number of cases have been reported for combined intrathoracic and abdominal splenosis. CASE REPORT We present a case of a 50-year-old man with a history of splenectomy and left nephrectomy 15 years ago due to an accident, who had experienced chest pain for the past month. A 1-cm focal pleural thickening in the left posterior pleura was revealed on the chest computed tomography (CT) scan. We found this to be suspicious for a solitary fibrous tumor. Based on this information, surgery was performed for tumor removal, and the pathologic examination confirmed splenic tissues. The patient was then discharged without any complications. Further abdominopelvic CT showed several contrast-enhanced lesions, suggestive of intraperitoneal splenosis. CONCLUSIONS We would like to emphasize the importance of thorough history-taking to avoid misdiagnosis and unnecessary procedures with respect to the rarity of splenosis. Moreover, appropriate use of diagnostic tools, including radionuclide imaging studies, is recommended to establish an accurate diagnosis of thoracic splenosis.

An acute diagnostic picture of splenosis of the left epigastric region and chronic non‐cirrhotic portal vein thrombosis with cavernous transformation was found 20 years later.

Abstract
The finding of splenic tissue within the pancreas, also known as splenosis or intrapancreatic accessory spleen (IPAS), is a relatively uncommon condition that presents as an intrapancreatic mass. The discovery of an intrapancreatic mass often prompts a thorough diagnostic workup for a primary pancreatic malignancy, often exposing patients to unnecessary risks associated with invasive testing and even surgery. The benign, asymptomatic nature of this finding places emphasis on utilizing non-invasive techniques for confirmation of the diagnosis, reducing risks of morbidity and mortality in this patient population. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) will display near-identical signal intensities (SI) between the spleen and the intrapancreatic mass, as well as identical contrast-enhancement patterns. Nuclear medicine evaluation with Tc-99m heat-damaged red blood cells (HDRBCs) is often used as a confirmatory test and allows for differentiation from malignancies.

Abstract
Splenosis describe a clinical entity of autotransplantation after removal of the spleen secon-dary to a traumatic rupture or surgery. A 39-year-old female was referred to thoracic surgery department with complaints of severe chest pain. She had left thoracic and abdominal gun-shot injury that occurred 19 years earlier. Thorax computed tomograhy and thorax magnetic resonance imaging revealed pleural lesions. A video thoracoscopic biopsy disclosed splenosis in the patient. Splenic implants did not change in 6 years. The patient has mild thoracic pain. Thoracic splenosis can occur in patients who underwent abdominothoracic gunshot injury. The implants did not seem to change in long-term follow-up. Thoracic splenosis may occur, persist for years and it mimics pleural tumor after abdominal gun-shot injury and does not seem to necessitate any surgical intervention including diaphragmatic repair.

Abstract
This case serves as a reminder to consider ectopic splenic tissue in the differential diagnosis of pancreatic masses. The literature shows a lack of awareness and overtreatment of this condition due to clinical and radiologic concern for malignancy, namely neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) identified on positron emission tomography (PET)-CT NETSPOT. Given the vast difference in management and prognosis of ectopic splenic anomalies and malignant neoplasms involving the pancreas, accurate diagnosis is imperative to avoid unnecessary invasive procedures such as Whipple or distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy, which are associated with increased morbidity and mortality.

Abstract
Splenosis is a rare disease, which is often discovered incidentally years after surgical procedures on the spleen or traumatic splenic lesions. Through injury of the splenic capsule, splenic cells are able to spread and autoimplant in a fashion similar to the process of metastatic cancer. Here we present the case of a 62-year-old female patient with a palpable tumor of the lower abdomen. Her medical history was unremarkable, except for splenectomy after traumatic splenic lesion in her childhood. Clinical examination and diagnostic imaging raised the suspicion of advanced ovarian cancer, which was further substantiated by the typical presentation of adnexal masses and disseminated peritoneal metastases during the following staging laparotomy. Surprisingly, we also found peritoneal implants macroscopically similar to splenic tissue. Microscopic examination of tissue specimens by intrasurgical frozen section confirmed the diagnosis of intra-abdominal splenosis. The patient then underwent cytoreductive surgery with complete resection of all cancer manifestations, sparing the remaining foci of splenosis to avoid further morbidity. This case demonstrates the rare coincidence of intra-abdominal carcinoma and splenosis, which could lead to intraoperative difficulties by misinterpreting benign splenic tissue. Therefore, splenosis should be considered in patients with medical history of splenic lesions and further diagnostic imaging like Tc-99m-tagged heat-damaged RBC scan could be used for presurgical distinguishing between tumor spread in the abdominal cavity and disseminated splenosis. The presented case report should not only raise awareness for the rare disease splenosis, but also emphasize the need to consider the possibility of simultaneous incidence of benign and malignant intra-abdominal lesions, as to our knowledge this is the first published case of simultaneous peritoneal carcinomatosis and splenosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Individuals splenectomised for trauma have lower infection rates than those splenectomised for other conditions. Residual functional splenic tissue (FST) after splenectomy may provide ongoing immunological protection. AIMS To quantify the prevalence and volume of residual FST post-splenectomy using standard testing. METHODS Splenectomised adults were recruited from the Spleen Australia clinical registry. Eligible individuals had been splenectomised at least 1 year prior to their visit and resided in Victoria. Splenic function was identified by evaluating Howell-Jolly bodies and IgM memory B cells. A 99m-Technetium-labelled, heat-denatured erythrocyte scintigraphic scan was performed if splenic function was detected. RESULTS Initially, 75 splenectomised individuals (all cause) were recruited, with a median of 58 years of age and who were splenectomised a median of 14 years previously. The most common indications for splenectomy were trauma (30.7%) and haematological disease (28.0%). Scintigraphy identified FST in nine individuals (12.0%). Eight had been splenectomised for trauma. In this cohort, 34.8% of individuals splenectomised for trauma had residual FST. To explore our findings further, 45 additional individuals were recruited, predominately individuals splenectomised for trauma. Twenty-five individuals completed assessments by December 2018. An additional 11 individuals had FST, of whom 9 had been splenectomised for trauma. Overall, we identified 20 individuals with residual FST. Volumes ranged from 2.2 to 216.0 cc. We saw individuals with accessory spleens and splenotic nodules and an individual with both. Seventeen individuals had been splenectomised for trauma. CONCLUSIONS Residual FST is commonly seen in individuals splenectomised for trauma. It can present in varying distributions and of varying volume. The clinical significance is unclear.

Abstract
RATIONALE Hepatic splenosis or heterotopic auto-transplantation of spleen in the liver usually occurs after either spleen trauma or surgery. It is of great importance for the differential diagnosis of hepatic splenosis and other liver tumors because surgery is usually not needed if a diagnosis of splenosis is confirmed. PATIENT CONCERNS Multiple hepatic masses were revealed by grayscale ultrasound in a 55-year-old man complaining of persistent colic in the upper abdomen after greasy food. DIAGNOSIS Benign neoplasm with enlarged lymph node in the gastro-hepatic ligament was suspected by contrast enhanced US. The nature of the hepatic mass was undetermined by CECT. INTERVENTIONS The lesions were surgically removed. OUTCOMES Multiple splenic tissue implants in the liver and peritoneum were confirmed by pathology after surgery. The patient recovered well and was followed up for more than 1 year without recurrence. LESSONS Splenosis should be included in the differential diagnosis of focal liver lesion in patients with a history of spleen trauma or surgery. In spite of nonspecific findings on pre-contrast ultrasound, splenosis shows characteristic homogeneous hyperenhancement in arterial and portal phases, as well as prolonged hyperenhancement in the late phase for more than 5 minutes. Furthermore, the confidence of the diagnosis of splenosis may be enhanced by identifying multiple masses with similar enhancing patterns in other regions of the abdominal cavity.

Abstract
Foci of splenic tissue separated from the spleen can occur as a congenital anomaly. Isolated nodules of splenic tissue are called accessory spleens or spleniculli. However, nodules of splenic tissue can merge with other organs during embryonic development, in which case we speak of spleno-visceral fusions: most often, they merge with the tail of the pancreas (thus forming spleno-pancreatic fusion or an intrapancreatic accessory spleen), with the reproductive gland (i.e., spleno-gonadal fusion), or with the kidney (i.e., spleno-renal fusion). Our case report describes the fusion of heterotopic splenic tissue with the right adrenal gland, which was misinterpreted as a metastasis of a renal cell carcinoma. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of spleno-adrenal fusion. Spleno-visceral fusions usually represent asymptomatic conditions; their main clinical significance lies in the confusion they cause and its misinterpretation as tumors of other organs. We believe that the cause of retroperitoneal spleno-visceral fusions is the anomalous migration of splenic cells along the dorsal mesentery to the urogenital ridge, together with primitive germ cells, at the end of the fifth week and during the sixth week of embryonic age. This theory explains the possible origin of spleno-visceral fusions, their different frequency of occurrence, and the predominance of findings on the left side.

Abstract
The dissemination and autotransplantation of viable splenic tissue in different anatomic compartments of the body can present a diagnostic dilemma, especially when metastatic disease is suspected. We report a case of a 30-year-old male with well-differentiated gastric neuroendocrine tumor (Grade II) treated with surgery. Follow-up 68Ga-DOTA-NOC demonstrated a suspicious peritoneal soft-tissue nodule in the right paracolic gutter with increased tracer uptake. In view of splenectomy 10 years ago, the patient underwent 99mTc heat-denatured erythrocyte study which showed a very unusual pattern of multiple tracer-avid foci of splenic tissue in both intraperitoneal and extraperitoneal distributions. The integration of the patient's history and complementary nuclear imaging results led to the correct diagnosis of splenosis.

Abstract
A 40-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain and jaundice. Past medical history was significant only for splenectomy following a motor vehicle accident. Owing to presence of multiple peritoneal nodules on computerized tomography (CT) and elevated serum CA-125, ovarian peritoneal carcinomatosis was suspected. Ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) revealed presence of abundant hemosiderin, leukocytes, endothelial cells, and fungal hypha-like structures. No evidence of neoplasia was found. Findings were consistent with Gamna-Gandy bodies (GGBS) within splenic tissue. Based on history of splenectomy and FNA findings, a diagnosis of abdominal splenosis with presence of GGBS was made. Workup for hepatic cirrhosis and portal hypertension was recommended. Liver biopsy confirmed presence of cirrhosis. To our knowledge, this is the first report of GGBS identified within abdominal splenosis. It is important for pathologists to be able to recognize GGBS and to be aware of their relationship to portal hypertension and other conditions associated with severe vascular congestion or hemorrhage. History and pathogenesis of GGBS, their diagnostic morphologic features and a review of cases of GGBS diagnosed via cytology are given.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe a case of coincidental finding of splenosis during gynecological laparoscopic surgery. DESIGN Case report. SETTING Department of gynecology and obstetrics, Hospital of Frýdek-Místek. CASE REPORT We describe the case of coincidental perioperative finding of pelvic tumorous mass that was later histologicaly verified as accsessory spleen or splenosis. CONCLUSION Ectopic spleen is mostly random finding with no symptoms observed. Rarely it can cause pelvic pain or mimick adnexal malignity or endometriosis. It is neccesery to keep this rare diagnosis in mind, mainly at patients with splenic trauma or splenectomy in their medical history to preserve immunological function of this splenic tissue.

Abstract
Splenosis is a medical condition that seldom occurs after splenic tissue spillage via trauma or surgery. Ectopic spleen tissues can be found almost anywhere within the body. Albeit benign, it is often misdiagnosed as a tumor. Surgery is not indicated unless symptomatic. The imaging of choice for pelvic splenosis, although conventional, is a sulfur colloid nuclear scintigraphy.

Abstract
Thoracic splenosis is a rare heterotopic autotransplantation of the spleen into the thorax that occurs after trauma or surgery involving the spleen. It is most commonly found incidentally on imaging in the left hemithorax. To the best of our knowledge, only six symptomatic cases of thoracic splenosis have been described in the literature so far. We present a case of thoracic splenosis in a male with a remote history of a gunshot injury during childhood, who presented with chest pain and shortness of breath.

Abstract
We describe three cases of liver lesions, characterized by a discrepancy between
presurgical imaging and histological features, in which the final histological
diagnosis was quite different from what the surgeons expected. We present (1) a
case of primary liver angiomyolipoma associated with focal nodular hyperplasia,
(2) a case of perivascular epithelioid cell tumor, and (3) a case of liver
splenosis associated with focal nodular hyperplasia. In all cases, a presurgical
diagnosis of hepatocellular adenoma was made. Due to nonspecific clinical and
radiological features, these rare liver lesions are often presurgically
misdiagnosed, especially in young noncirrhotic patients. The association among
different lesions represents one additional diagnostic challenge.

Abstract
Splenosis is an unusual condition representing auto-transplantation of splenic tissue following splenic trauma or surgery. When detected on imaging studies, the splenosis deposits are usually misinterpreted as pathological masses. We present a case where a pelvic mass incidentally visualized on an MRI examination, was proven to represent a deposit of splenosis by contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS). CEUS demonstrated persistent late-phase enhancement characteristic of splenic tissue. Ultrasound practitioners should be aware of this condition when an unusual abdominal or pelvic mass is encountered in a patient with a history of splenic trauma or surgery. CEUS is ideally suited to confirming the diagnosis.

Splenorenal fusion is an extremely rare benign entity. This abnormality is presented in a case of a 29-year-old-male patient. We discuss the distinction between this condition and renal splenosis and their embryology. Abstract
RATIONALE Splenosis is the heterotopic auto-transplantation of the splenic tissues. Gastric splenosis in a rare location mimics a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). Gastric splenosis with hemangioma has not been reported throughout the literature. PATIENT CONCERNS We report a case of a 74-year-old schistosomiasis cirrhosis splenectomy woman diagnosed with gastric fundus mass. Preoperative computed tomography and endoscopic ultrasonography revealed findings suggestive of a GIST. DIAGNOSES The mass located in the gastric fundus muscularis propria, measuring 3.9 × 2.8 × 2.4 cm with a dark red color, was removed by surgery. In the mass, a 1 × 1-cm red-purple nodule was also found. On microscopic examination, a well-formed splenic tissue divided into two compartments-white pulp and red pulp-separated by an ill-defined interphase known as the marginal zone. However, a nodule in the heterotopic spleen was mainly composed of larger thin-walled muscular vessels. The final diagnosis was gastric splenosis with hemangioma. INTERVENTIONS After discussion in a multidisciplinary conference, the patient was considered for a GIST resection under gastroscopy. In the process of peeling, the surface of the mucosal, submucosal, muscle layers and the tumor surface were diffusely oozing. The effect of electrocoagulation and hemostasis was extremely poor. Therefore, endoscopic surgery was arrested. After dealing with the patient's family, a combination of laparoscopic-gastroscope double-mirror surgery was decided in accordance with the principle of minimally invasive surgery to preserve the stomach. Owing to several adhesions and concealed the location of tumor, we stopped the double-mirror combination surgery plan. Considering the great possibility of a malignant GIST, we still decided to continue the traditional surgical resection. The tumor was then removed via surgery OUTCOMES:: The patient was favorable with healing and discharged on postoperative day 10. LESSONS Gastric splenosis with an associated hemangioma is the first well-documented case. Its pathogenesis may be direct implantation. Appropriate medical history taking and Tc-99 m heat-denatured RBC spleen scintigraphy (Tc-99MHDRS) are valuable for its diagnosis; however, pathology is the gold standard. Surgery is a reasonable treatment for gastric splenosis with hemangioma.

Abstract
Hepatic splenosis was first described in 1939 and is a rare condition that results from splenic trauma or splenectomy. A 43-year-old man with a past medical history significant for a prior splenectomy was admitted to the hospital due to right upper quadrant pain for two days. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdomen suggested features of hepatic adenoma, however, a percutaneous biopsy showed the mass within the liver to be a discrete collection of splenic tissue, apparently the result of a traumatic splenic rupture years ago. Hepatic splenosis is a rare entity, and due to the asymptomatic nature of this condition, most cases are found incidentally after different imaging modalities are done. The management of this entity is based on conservative measures. We report this case to emphasize that in the appropriate clinical setting, hepatic splenosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a patient with a homogenous well-circumscribed liver mass.

Abstract
Somatostatin receptor (SSTR) imaging with gallium 68 (Ga-68) 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid (DOTA)-peptide positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) has been introduced in clinical routine for the diagnosis and staging of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) with high SSTR expression. Although it has high sensitivity for NETs, there are some known diagnostic pitfalls one should be aware of. We present a case of suspected NET where Ga-68 DOTA-NaI3-octreotide (NOC) PET/CT showed several abdominal lesions with high SSTR expression suggesting malignancy. On magnetic resonance imaging, the differential diagnosis of the lesions also included splenosis. Subsequent splenic scintigraphy with technetium-99m phytate showed uptake in all suspicious lesions, and biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of splenosis. Splenic scintigraphy with single-photon emission computed tomography/CT can be a helpful noninvasive diagnostic tool when splenosis is suspected on Ga-68 DOTA-peptide PET/CT.

Abstract
This case report describes a case of thoracic splenosis. Splenosis is often interpreted as malignancy on initial imaging. Case reports described in the literature reveal that diagnosis is most often confirmed with invasive investigations. A 99 m technetium‐labelled sulphur colloid scan when used with single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) is highly specific for splenic tissue and more readily available and time efficient than other modalities used for this purpose. Awareness of this may prevent unnecessary or dangerous invasive diagnostic procedures.

Abstract
After significant trauma to the spleen, small viable splenic fragments may exist in the peritoneal cavity or, less commonly, in the thorax. Thus, the appearance of splenules within the thorax on CT images can easily be mistaken for malignancy and lead to unnecessary intervention. Here, we present a case of multiple pulmonary masses that initially were presumed to be malignancy, leading to CT-guided biopsy, but were eventually confirmed to be thoracic splenules through 99mTc-labeled sulfur colloid scintigraphy.

Abstract
In any patient, the occurrence of postsplenectomy splenosis can complicate the planning of further surgeries. In our case, the gastric sleeve procedure was aborted, as it would have put the patient's life in danger. Therefore, only the gastric band was removed, eliminating future erosion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to evaluate the results of selective spleen scintigraphy (SSS) and contribution of SPECT imaging to planar imaging in splenectomized and nonsplenectomized patients. METHODS We retrospectively examined 112 SSSs of 96 patients. The patients were divided into two groups as splenectomized group (SP) and non-splenectomized group (NSP). The findings were evaluated by comparing the results of surgery,computerized tomography (CT), ultrasonography (USG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In addition, whether or not differences existed between the results of SPECT and planar imaging was determined. RESULTS Of 66 scintigraphies performed in the NSP group, 3 (5%) had positive, 3 (5%) had suspicious and 60 (90%) had negative results. In the NSP group, 28 patients underwent surgery and 12 accessory spleens were removed. Only 3 of these tissues were detected by scintigraphy. Of 46 patients in the SP group, 26 (57%) had positive findings whereas 20 (43%) had negative scintigraphies. Twelve accessory spleens/splenosis were removed surgically in 10 patients with a positive SSS in the SP group. There were no false positive results in both groups of patients who underwent surgery. There was no significant difference between the results of SSS, USG and CT. Of 39 patients to whom SPECT were performed, 10 had positive results both with planar and SPECT imaging. On the other hand, 26 patients, 3 of whom had suspected findings in SPECT images, demonstrated negative results when evaluated with both imaging methods. Remaining 3 were considered suspicious by only SPECT images for the hilar area. CONCLUSION SSS has high specificity in the detection of accessory spleens/splenosis. The sensitivity of SSS is low in the NSP group,but higher in the SP group. There is no contribution of SPECT imaging to planar imaging.

Abstract
Splenosis is a common disease, patients with splenosis are generally asymptomatic and therapy is not indicated. Splenosis is frequently observed in the abdomen and pelvic cavity and may mimic malignancy on imaging, often leading to unnecessary surgical intervention. The current study presents the case of a 55-year-old female patient, with a rare case of duodenal splenosis, who underwent unnecessary laparotomy due to a misdiagnosis of a malignant duodenal stromal tumor. Although splenosis was confirmed by intraoperative tissue biopsy, this mass was resected due to the lack of information with regard to this condition, an increased suspicion of progressive growth of the mass and chronic duodenal compression. The aim of this report is to raise the awareness of this entity in patients post-splenectomy, to avoid unnecessary surgery, particularly with an increased prevalence of patients with previous splenic trauma due to road traffic accidents. Therefore, the possibility of abdominal splenosis must be included in the differential diagnosis of patients with abdominal mass as the main clinical manifestation, where there is a history of splenic trauma or splenectomy and no other systemic symptoms. In the future noninvasive nuclear scintigraphy may serve as a suitable diagnostic approach for splenosis, thereby avoiding unnecessary laparotomies.

Abstract
Splenosis is a rare condition defined as seeding and autotransplantation of splenic tissue, typically after blunt abdominal trauma (e.g. from road traffic collision). Sites of splenosis ranging from intrathoracic to intrapelvic have been reported, and symptoms vary greatly depending on the site and size of lesions. We present the use of Tc-99m sulphur colloid SPECT/CT in diagnosing a case of multiple abdominopelvic splenosis as the cause of new-onset tenesmus and constipation, which was initially thought to be due to colorectal malignancy, 47 years following the initial abdominal trauma.

Abstract
Aim: In children suffering from severe hepatosplenic schistosomiasis, the surgical protocol includes splenectomy and autoimplantation of spleen morsels in the major omentum, which has the potential of reducing the overwhelming postsplenectomy infection (OPSI). The purpose of the study was to evaluate the remaining splenosis, with the mean postoperative followup of 12.1 ± 5.6 years; to compare the efficacy of the 2 evaluation tools. Materials and Methods: Nineteen patients underwent, when they were children, portal decompression and autoimplantation of spleen. After a mean age of 23.4 ± 5.3 years, they were investigated regarding the number of infections and OPSI. They had undergone hepatosplenic scintigraphy with labeled colloidal SnTc99m and abdominal ultrasound. It was considered efficient splenosis when the patients presented with 5 or more spleen nodules. The evaluation was performed by 3 observers. Results: None of the patients had increased infection rate or developed OPSI. Sixteen (84.2%) presented efficient splenosis. Conclusions: The remaining postoperative splenosis was considered efficient in the majority of patients in the long-term followup; and nuclear medicine was considered the gold standard for splenosis evaluation.
