[One case of parotid eosinophilic lymphogranuloma]

The clinical manifestation was painless mass in the parotid gland. Physical examination showed regional swelling in parotid area. Bultrasound examination demonstrated the mass was an hypoechoic nodules of bilateral parotid gland, the border was vague. Absolute value and ratio of peripheral eosinophils were both significantly increased. Pathological examination: parotid eosinophilic lymphogranuloma.

Langerhans cells histiocytosis in one family

Histiocytosis of Langerhans cells (class 1 histiocytosis) includes a range of clinical manifestations that have been described as bone eosinophilic granuloma, Hand-Schüller-Christian syndrome, and Letterer-Siwe diseases. This syndrome represents a spectrum of severity and prognosis of some underlying disorder which is usually sporadic. This report describes three cases in one family, who developed the disease a few years after their brother was found to be suffering from histiocytosis. All 3 patients had the same clinical manifestations: hyperthermia, eczematic rash, and swelling in skull, hand, and foot. X rays showed lytic areas in the skull and metacarp of fourth finger. Serology for EBV infection was negative. Infiltration of abnormal Langerhans cells histiocytes were demonstrated in bone biopsies. These patients were given chemotherapy. Case 1 (brother) died 1 year after chemotherapy, case 2 (girl) was given chemotherapy without success. She was given T-cell suppressor (cyclosporine), which induced remission, and case 3 was given chemotherapy, which was successful.

GASTRO-DUODENAL CROHN'S DISEASE

Gastro-duodenal Crohn's disease is rare. Thirty-one previously reported cases are briefly reviewed; histological confirmation of the diagnosis was not always possible. Details are given of a patient with pyloro-duodenal involvement accompanied by terminal ileitis and appendicitis where surgical specimens were available for study. The differential diagnosis is considered from the clinical and pathological aspects.

Lymphoproliferative disorders of the head and neck

Lymphoproliferative disorders are the frequent cause of indeterminate processes in the head and neck region for which otolaryngologists are often consulted by colleagues seeking a diagnosis. Because a wide spectrum of diseases may be represented, tissue diagnosis is often required. Recent advances in tissue immunotyping and DNA probes permit more precise identification and classification of these disorders. Lymphoproliferative disorders may be subdivided into five categories: Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, histiocytosis X, benign reactive lymphoproliferative disorders, and plasma cell neoplasms. Representative cases are presented, along with a brief discussion of each category.

The eosinophilic granuloma of the intestine is a rare disease and is difficult to classify as far as etiology and pathogenesis are concerned. Unexplained, recurrent colicky obstipation and diarrhea accompained by anemia should induce x-ray examination of the small intestine and selective angiography in case of acute bleeding. Therapy with corticosteroids is justified in cases with diffuse involvement of the intestine without stenoses or ulcerations. Otherwise surgical removal of the involved segments with cure the disease, which is always benign.
