Abstract
Peripheral T-cell lymphomas comprise 8% of the malignant lymphomas in Germany. About 25% of these cases present primarily in extranodal localizations. Such localizations are typical for the respective disease and form the basis for the classification of extranodal peripheral T-cell lymphoma. The morphology, immunophenotype and lineage specificity of the tumor cells (originating from T- or NK-cells) is only secondary for the classification. Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphomas of the nasal type are characterized by an angiocentric growth pattern and large confluent areas of necrosis. In addition, there is a clonal infection by Epstein-Barr virus in the T-lymphocytes. In the differential diagnosis, B-cell lymphomas are more frequent at all localizations than T- or NK-cell lymphomas.

Abstract
Enteropathy type T-cell lymphomas (ETL) are the most frequent T-cell lymphomas arising in the gastrointestinal tract. Commonly, the neoplasm is clinically associated with symptoms of malabsorption, and it frequently manifests as a spontaneous bowel perforation. Among ETL, two types can be distinguished by morphology, immunophenotype and, possibly, by pathogenesis. A total of 80% of ETL are characterized by a close association with celiac disease, pleomorphic cytomorphology and the rare expression of CD8 and CD56. In contrast, 20% of ETL show a monomorphic small to medium size cytomorphology and frequent expression of CD8 and CD56, an association with celiac disease is rare in the latter cases. Genetically, ETL is characterized by frequent and recurrent chromosomal gains of 9q33-q34.

Abstract
We report a method to controllably alter the diameter of an individual carbon nanotube. The combination of defect formation via electron irradiation and simultaneous resistive heating and electromigration in vacuum causes the nanotube to continuously transform into a high-quality nanotube of successively smaller diameter, as observed by transmission electron microscopy. The process can be halted at any diameter. Electronic transport measurements performed in situ reveal a striking dependence of conductance on nanotube geometry. As the diameter of the nanotube is reduced to near zero into the carbon chain regime, we observe negative differential resistance.

Abstract
We demonstrated nanoscale solid-state thermal rectification. High-thermal-conductivity carbon and boron nitride nanotubes were mass-loaded externally and inhomogeneously with heavy molecules. The resulting nanoscale system yields asymmetric axial thermal conductance with greater heat flow in the direction of decreasing mass density. The effect cannot be explained by ordinary perturbative wave theories, and instead we suggest that solitons may be responsible for the phenomenon. Considering the important role of electrical rectifiers (diodes) in electronics, thermal rectifiers have substantial implications for diverse thermal management problems, ranging from nanoscale calorimeters to microelectronic processors to macroscopic refrigerators and energy-saving buildings.

Abstract
We have imaged boron nitride nanotubes with atomic scale resolution using scanning tunneling microscopy. While some nanotubes show the expected triangular lattice pattern, the majority of the nanotubes show unusual stripe patterns which break the underlying symmetry of the boron nitride lattice. We identify the origin of the symmetry breaking and demonstrate that conventional STM imaging analysis is inadequate for boron nitride nanotubes.

Abstract
Hassall's corpuscles are regular structures in the medulla of the normal thymus and in non-neoplastic thymic conditions, e.g. in multilocular thymic cysts. In thymomas, however, they are inconsistently found, and are believed to indicate medullary differentiation of WHO type B1-3 thymomas. We present five organotypical thymomas resembling WHO type B2 and B3 thymomas, but with an abundance of Hassall's corpuscles. We wonder whether this exceedingly rare observation might herald a distinct entity. Four tumors were asymptomatic, incidental findings and of low Masaoka stage (I or II) [20] . One patient suffered from myasthenia gravis which disappeared upon surgical removal of the thymus, while all other patients had no concomitant autoimmune disease. Two patients had a relapse-free follow-up of 12 and 2 years, respectively, upon curative surgery, and another tumor was an autopsy finding; follow-up data of two more recent cases was not yet available. The neoplastic epithelium other than Hassall's corpuscles was arranged either in a cortical type B2 pattern or in type B3 solid cords. In all examples, there was cyst formation, inflammatory reaction and repair, indicative of a long-standing condition. Immature T cells were present in all instances. "Corpuscular thymomas" morphologically resemble WHO type B2 and B3 thymomas, but appear biologically indolent and are rarely associated with myasthenia gravis. Whether they qualify for a separate entity has to be proven by larger series, including genetic studies.

Abstract
We report carbon-nanotube-based electromechanical resonators with the fundamental mode frequency over 1.3 GHz, operated in air at room temperature. A new combination of drive and detection methods allows for unprecedented measurement of both oscillation amplitude and phase and elucidates the relative mobility of static charges near the nanotube. The resonator serves as an exceptionally sensitive mass detector capable of approximately 10(-18) g resolution.

Abstract
We have measured the temperature-dependent thermal conductivity kappa(T) of individual multiwall boron nitride nanotubes using a microfabricated test fixture that allows direct transmission electron microscopy characterization of the tube being measured. kappa(T) is exceptionally sensitive to isotopic substitution, with a 50% enhancement in kappa(T) resulting for boron nitride nanotubes with 99.5% 11B. For isotopically pure boron nitride nanotubes, kappa rivals that of carbon nanotubes of similar diameter.

Abstract
We describe interlayer force measurements during prolonged, cyclic telescoping motion of a multiwalled carbon nanotube. The force acting between the core and the outer casing is modulated by the presence of stable defects and generally exhibits ultralow friction, below the measurement limit of 1.4 x 10(-15) N/atom and total dissipation per cycle lower than 0.4 meV/atom. Defects intentionally introduced in the form of dangling bonds lead to temporary mechanical dissipation, but the innate ability of nanotubes to self heal rapidly optimizes the atomic structure and restores smooth motion.

Abstract
We have created a tunable mechanical nanoscale resonator with potential applications in precise mass, force, position, and frequency measurement. The device consists of a specially prepared multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) suspended between a metal electrode and a mobile, piezo-controlled contact. By exploiting the unique telescoping ability of MWNTs, we controllably slide an inner nanotube core from its outer nanotube casing, effectively changing its length and tuning its flexural resonance frequency.

Abstract
We have constructed and operated a nanoscale linear motor powered by a single metal nanocrystal ram sandwiched between mechanical lever arms. Low-level electrical voltages applied to the carbon nanotube lever arms cause the nanocrystal to grow or shrink in a controlled manner. The length of the ram is adjustable from 0 to more than 150 nm, with extension speeds exceeding 1900 nm/s. The thermodynamic principles governing motor operation resemble those driving frost heave, a natural solid-state linear motor.

Abstract
AIMS Classical Hodgkin's lymphoma (cHL) rarely coexists as composite lymphoma with B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (B-NHL). We characterized 12 cases of composite marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (MZBL) and cHL by immunohistochemistry and molecular biology. METHODS AND RESULTS Eight patients had gastric MZBL of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT)-type, in five cases with a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma component. Concurrent cHL was observed either in the stomach wall, regional, or distant lymph nodes. One patient each had composite pulmonary/thyroid MZBL of MALT-type and cHL. In two cases, nodal composite MZBL and cHL was observed. cHL displayed features of mixed cellularity type in 10 cases, while in two cases only scattered Hodgkin- and Reed-Sternberg (H/RS) cells were noted. H/RS cells expressed CD30, multiple myeloma oncogene 1 protein (MUM1P), p53 (100%), CD15 (58%), CD20 (58%) and Epstein-Barr virus-associated LMP1 (50%). No t(11;18)(q21;q21) was detected in composite MZBL of MALT-type and cHL. CONCLUSIONS MZBL and cHL may occur as composite lymphoma, possibly reflecting clonal lymphoma progression. Derivation from extranodal MZBL of MALT-type should be excluded in cases in which a diagnosis of primary extranodal cHL is considered.

Abstract
Bias dependent scanning tunneling microscopy and scanning tunneling spectroscopy have been used to characterize the influence of transverse electric fields on the electronic properties of boron-nitride nanotubes (BNNTs). We find experimental evidence for the theoretically predicted giant Stark effect. The observed giant Stark effect significantly reduces the band gap of BNNTs and thus greatly enhances the utility of BNNTs for nanoscale electronic, electromechanical, and optoelectronic applications.

Abstract
Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) designates a heterogeneous group of CD30+ (systemic or primary cutaneous) peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCLs). A subgroup of systemic ALCL is transformed by anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK). We compared 46 ALCL with 22 PTCLs in terms of T-cell receptor (TCR) rearrangements, expression of TCRs and TCR-associated molecules [CD3, ZAP-70 (zeta-associated protein 70)]. Despite their frequent clonal rearrangement for TCRbeta, only 4% of ALCLs expressed TCRbeta protein, whereas TCRs were detected in 86% of PTCLs. Moreover, both TCRbeta+ ALCLs lacked CD3 and ZAP-70 (ie, molecules indispensable for the transduction of cognate TCR signals). Defective expression of TCRs is a common characteristic of all types of ALCL, which may contribute to the dysregulation of intracellular signaling pathways controlling T-cell activation and survival. This molecular hallmark of ALCL is analogous to defective immunoglobulin expression distinguishing Hodgkin lymphoma from other B-cell lymphomas.

Abstract
We have developed a novel iterative experimental-theoretical technique which can identify the atomic structure of defects in many-atom nanoscale materials from scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy data. A given model for a defect structure is iteratively improved until calculated microscopy and spectroscopy data based on the model converge on the experimental results. We use the technique to identify a defect responsible for the electronic properties of a carbon nanotube intramolecular junction. Our technique can be extended for analysis of defect structures in nanoscale materials in general.

Abstract
We have measured the electrical resistance R between the ends of a multiwall carbon nanotube during telescopic extension of the nanotube. R increases monotonically with extension and is hysteresis free, demonstrating that a telescoping nanotube constitutes a near-ideal nanometer-scale rheostat. The functional form of R is nonlinear and consistent with an exponential form predicted for a one-dimensional localized system, with a characteristic localization length 1000-1500 nm.

Abstract
During in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) field emission experiments, carbon nanotubes are observed to strongly diffract the imaging TEM electron beam. We demonstrate that this effect is identical to that of a standard electrostatic biprism. We also demonstrate that the nanotube biprism can be used to capture electron-holographic information.

Abstract
The development of manipulation tools that are not too 'fat' or too 'sticky' for atomic scale assembly is an important challenge facing nanotechnology. Impressive nanofabrication capabilities have been demonstrated with scanning probe manipulation of atoms and molecules on clean surfaces. However, as fabrication tools, both scanning tunnelling and atomic force microscopes suffer from a loading deficiency: although they can manipulate atoms already present, they cannot efficiently deliver atoms to the work area. Carbon nanotubes, with their hollow cores and large aspect ratios, have been suggested as possible conduits for nanoscale amounts of material. Already much effort has been devoted to the filling of nanotubes and the application of such techniques. Furthermore, carbon nanotubes have been used as probes in scanning probe microscopy. If the atomic placement and manipulation capability already demonstrated by scanning probe microscopy could be combined with a nanotube delivery system, a formidable nanoassembly tool would result. Here we report the achievement of controllable, reversible atomic scale mass transport along carbon nanotubes, using indium metal as the prototype transport species. This transport process has similarities to conventional electromigration, a phenomenon of critical importance to the semiconductor industry.

Abstract
AIMS To validate the applicability of tissue microarray (TM) in immunohistochemical profiling of B-cell lymphoma and to identify particular phenotypic profiles of B-cell neoplasms. METHODS AND RESULTS Eighty-two diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBL), 54 follicular lymphomas (FL) and 74 mantle cell lymphomas (MCL) were arrayed. Immunohistochemical stains of TM were compared with immunostains of conventional, formalin-fixed and frozen material sections. Concordant staining results were obtained in more than 88% of cases for CD20, CD3, CD5, CD10, CD23, Bcl-2, IgD, secretory differentiation, p53 and p21 expression. Prognostically relevant hot-spot expression of Ki67 yielded concordant results in 71%. Applying TM for characterization of p27KIP1 expression, both typical and blastoid MCL only rarely showed p27KIP1 expression (9% and 15%), whereas 32% of nodal DLBL were p27KIP1-positive, irrespective of high proliferative activity. Among 22 B-cell lymphomas investigated genetically, a p53 + p21- immunophenotype in >20% of tumour cells correlated with p53 locus deletion. CONCLUSIONS Lymphoma TM allows for immunohistochemical profiling of human B-cell lymphoma with a comparable accuracy to immunohistochemical studies performed on conventional tissue sections. Nodal DLBLs showed significantly more frequent expression of IgD and p27KIP1 than extranodal DLBL. MCL and DLBL frequently showed aberrant p27KIP1 expression. A p53 + p21- immunophenotype in >20% of tumour cells in B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma correlates with p53 gene deletion.

Abstract
Nanostructures are of great interest not only for their basic scientific richness, but also because they have the potential to revolutionize critical technologies. The miniaturization of electronic devices over the past century has profoundly affected human communication, computation, manufacturing and transportation systems. True molecular-scale electronic devices are now emerging that set the stage for future integrated nanoelectronics. Recently, there have been dramatic parallel advances in the miniaturization of mechanical and electromechanical devices. Commercial microelectromechanical systems now reach the submillimetre to micrometre size scale, and there is intense interest in the creation of next-generation synthetic nanometre-scale electromechanical systems. We report on the construction and successful operation of a fully synthetic nanoscale electromechanical actuator incorporating a rotatable metal plate, with a multi-walled carbon nanotube serving as the key motion-enabling element.

Abstract
We have created insulated C60 nanowire by packing C60 molecules into the interior of insulating boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs). For small-diameter BNNTs, the wire consists of a linear chain of C60 molecules.With increasing BNNT inner diameter, unusual C60 stacking configurations are obtained (including helical, hollow core, and incommensurate) that are unknown for bulk or thin-film forms of C60.C60 in BNNTs thus presents a model system for studying the properties of dimensionally constrained "silo" crystal structures. For the linear-chain case, we have fused the C60 molecules to form a single-walled carbon nanotube inside the insulating BNNT.

Abstract
CD4+CD56+ malignancy is a rare neoplasm with a typical clinical pattern, an aggressive course and high early relapse rate despite good initial response to chemotherapy. In this review, the impact of different therapeutic approaches on clinical outcome has been studied. We evaluated 91 published cases and our own six patients in terms of clinical features, immunophenotype/cytogenetics and treatment outcome. Treatment was divided into four groups: (A) chemotherapy less intensive than CHOP; (B) CHOP and CHOP-like regimens; (C) therapy for acute leukemia; (D) allogeneic/autologous stem cell transplantation. The median overall survival was only 13 months for all patients. Patients with skin-restricted disease showed no difference in the overall survival from patients with advanced disease (17 and 12 months, respectively). Age >/=60 years was a negative prognostic factor. Age-adjusted analysis revealed improved survival after high-dose chemo/radiotherapy followed by allogeneic stem cell transplantation when performed in first complete remission. This therapeutic approach should be recommended for eligible patients with CD4+CD56+ malignancy. For older patients the best treatment option is still unknown.

Abstract
Myelosarcoma (chloroma) is a rare primary condition in patients with either a myelodysplastic syndrome, or an acute or chronic leukemia. It is an extramedullary neoplasm which does not commonly present with changes in peripheral blood or bone marrow. The rarity and histomorphological similarity to malignant non-Hodgkin lymphoma renders the diagnosis notoriously difficult. Due to its coincidental or secondary manifestation followed by myelogenous leukemia, this tumor needs to be seen as a primary systemic disease. We present a 40 year old man with myelosarcoma of the jejunum and discuss this entity and its therapeutic options.

Abstract
Electron holography performed in situ inside a high resolution transmission electron microscope has been used to determine the magnitude and spatial distribution of the electric field surrounding individual field-emitting carbon nanotubes. The electric field (and hence the associated field emission current) is concentrated precisely at the tips of the nanotubes and not at other nanotube defects such as sidewall imperfections. The electric field magnitude and distribution are stable in time, even in cases where the nanotube field emission current exhibits extensive temporal fluctuations.

Abstract
In situ transmission electron microscopy is an established experimental technique that permits direct observation of the dynamics and mechanisms of dislocation motion and deformation behavior. In this article, we detail the development of a novel specimen goniometer that allows real-time observations of the mechanical response of materials to indentation loads. The technology of the scanning tunneling microscope is adopted to allow nanometer-scale positioning of a sharp, conductive diamond tip onto the edge of an electron-transparent sample. This allows application of loads to nanometer-scale material volumes coupled with simultaneous imaging of the material's response. The emphasis in this report is qualitative and technique oriented, with particular attention given to sample geometry and other technical requirements. Examples of the deformation of aluminum and titanium carbide as well as the fracture of silicon will be presented.

Abstract
To investigate genetic abnormalities associated with the development of thymic epithelial tumors, we performed microsatellite analysis of 26 thymomas belonging to three different World Health Organization types (A, B3, and C) using 48 repeats. The most frequent aberration seen was loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in the region 6q23.3-25.3 detected in 11 tumors (45.8% of informative cases). Further consistent LOHs were detected in regions 3p22-24.2, 3p14.2 (FHIT gene locus), 5q21 (APC), 6p21, 6q21-22.1, 7p21-22, 8q11.21-23, 13q14 (RB), and 17p13.1 (p53). Microsatellite instability was extremely rare, occurring in one type B3 thymoma only, although, at 12.5% of the analyzed loci. Comparing the allelotypes of the analyzed thymomas, we were able to identify two pathogenetic pathways these tumors develop along, characterized by the 6q23.3-25.3 and 5q21 LOHs, respectively. The APC aberration on 5q21 showed significant associations with LOH in the 3p22-24.2, 13q14, and 17p13.1 regions. Interestingly, type A thymomas presented with consistent LOH in the region 6q23.3-25.5 only, they did not reveal any aberrations in the APC, RB, and p53 gene loci or regions 3p22-24.2 and 8q11.21-23. The absence of these aberrations might be the reason for the well-known benign behavior of type A thymomas as compared to types B3 and C tumors.

Abstract
The vortex-matter 3D to 2D phase transition is studied in micron-sized Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8 + delta) single crystals using local Hall magnetization measurements. At a given temperature, the second magnetization peak, the signature of a possible 3D--2D vortex phase transition, disappears for samples smaller than a critical length. We suggest that this critical length should be equated with the 2D vortex lattice ab-plane correlation length R(2D)(c). The magnitude and temperature dependence of R(2D)(c) agree well with Larkin-Ovchinnikov collective pinning theory.

Abstract
Reflecting the stepwise process of oncogenesis, lymphomas may cumulatively develop a more aggressive phenotype during the course of disease, a process referred to as lymphoma progression. Although morphological, clinical and biological aspects of lymphoma progression do not always overlap, changes in lymphoma morphology frequently indicate alterations in the clinical and biological behaviour of the disease. Indolent and aggressive lymphomas in disease progression can either be clonally related or represent clonally unrelated neoplasms. We propose to use the term 'lymphoma progression' in a biological sense denoting only clonal development of and within a lymphoma entity. The term 'composite lymphoma' should be used as a merely descriptive morphological designation for different lymphoma entities in one individual irrespective of clonal relationship. Many types of aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and Hodgkin's lymphomas are reported to secondarily develop in lymphoma progression. Genetic changes associated with lymphoma progression frequently abrogate the differentiating effects of alterations occurring in indolent lymphomas, leading to increased cell proliferation. Within different lymphoma entities, high-risk disease variants mimicking lymphoma progression exist.

Abstract
The thermoelectric power (TEP) of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) is extremely sensitive to gas exposure history. Samples exposed to air or oxygen have an always positive TEP, suggestive of holelike carriers. However, at fixed temperature the TEP crosses zero and becomes progressively more negative as the SWNTs are stripped of oxygen. The time constant for oxygen adsorption/desorption is strongly temperature dependent and ranges from seconds to many days, leading to apparently "variable" TEP for a given sample at a given temperature. The saturated TEP can be accounted for within a model of strong oxygen doping of the semiconducting nanotubes.

Abstract
We demonstrate the controlled and reversible telescopic extension of multiwall carbon nanotubes, thus realizing ultralow-friction nanoscale linear bearings and constant-force nanosprings. Measurements performed in situ on individual custom-engineered nanotubes inside a high-resolution transmission electron microscope demonstrated the anticipated van der Waals energy-based retraction force and enabled us to place quantitative limits on the static and dynamic interwall frictional forces between nested nanotubes. Repeated extension and retraction of telescoping nanotube segments revealed no wear or fatigue on the atomic scale. Hence, these nanotubes may constitute near perfect, wear-free surfaces.

Abstract
Apart from single reported aberrant karyotypes, genetic alterations in thymic epithelial neoplasms have not been investigated so far. In this study, 12 World Health Organization classification type A thymomas (medullary thymomas), 16 type B3 thymomas (well-differentiated thymic carcinomas), and nine type C thymomas, all of them primary thymic squamous cell carcinomas, were analyzed by comparative genomic hybridization and fluorescence in situ hybridization. With the exception of one single case, type A thymomas did not reveal chromosomal gains or losses in comparative genomic hybridization. In contrast, all type B3 thymomas showed chromosomal imbalances, with gain of 1q, loss of chromosome 6, and loss of 13q occurring in 11 (69%), six (38%), and five (31%) of 16 cases, respectively. In primary thymic squamous cell carcinoma, the most frequent chromosomal losses were observed for 16q (six of nine cases, 67%), 6 (4 of 9, 44%), and 3p and 17p (three of nine each, 33%), whereas recurrent gains of chromosomal material were gains of 1q (5 of 9, 56%), 17q, and 18 (three of nine each, 33%). This study shows that the distinct histological thymoma types A and B3 exhibit distinct genetic phenotypes, whereas type B3 thymoma and primary thymic squamous cell carcinoma partially share genetic aberrations. In addition to the possible tumorigenic role, the deletion in type B3 thymoma of chromosome 6, harboring the HLA locus, might play a role in the pathogenesis of paraneoplastic autoimmunity characteristic of thymoma.

Abstract
We use electrostatic force microscopy and scanned gate microscopy to probe the conducting properties of carbon nanotubes at room temperature. Multiwalled carbon nanotubes are shown to be diffusive conductors, while metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes are ballistic conductors over micron lengths. Semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes are shown to have a series of large barriers to conduction along their length. These measurements are also used to probe the contact resistance and locate breaks in carbon nanotube circuits.

Abstract
Junctions consisting of two crossed single-walled carbon nanotubes were fabricated with electrical contacts at each end of each nanotube. The individual nanotubes were identified as metallic (M) or semiconducting (S), based on their two-terminal conductances; MM, MS, and SS four-terminal devices were studied. The MM and SS junctions had high conductances, on the order of 0.1 e(2)/h (where e is the electron charge and h is Planck's constant). For an MS junction, the semiconducting nanotube was depleted at the junction by the metallic nanotube, forming a rectifying Schottky barrier. We used two- and three-terminal experiments to fully characterize this junction.

Abstract
The electronic properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes are shown here to be extremely sensitive to the chemical environment. Exposure to air or oxygen dramatically influences the nanotubes' electrical resistance, thermoelectric power, and local density of states, as determined by transport measurements and scanning tunneling spectroscopy. These electronic parameters can be reversibly "tuned" by surprisingly small concentrations of adsorbed gases, and an apparently semiconducting nanotube can be converted into an apparent metal through such exposure. These results, although demonstrating that nanotubes could find use as sensitive chemical gas sensors, likewise indicate that many supposedly intrinsic properties measured on as-prepared nanotubes may be severely compromised by extrinsic air exposure effects.

Abstract
Extranodal malignant non-Hodgkin's lymphomas account for about 40% of lymphoid neoplasms, but few data are available concerning the genetic background of primary gastric diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). A study was performed of 27 primary gastric DLBCLs and 5 gastric DLBCLs with a concomitant low grade component of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue-type lymphoma using comparative genomic hybridization (CGH), microsatellite studies, classic cytogenetics, and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to search for specific genetic aberrations. The most frequent aberrations were losses of material on chromosome 6q and gains of parts of chromosome 3. In three cases, a total of six high level DNA amplifications were detected, with five of them involving chromosomal regions not having been reported before in gastric DLBCL. A high overall concordance of 91.4% between microsatellite analysis and CGH was observed using DNA extracted from the same tissue block. The concordance achieved using DNA from different tissue blocks of the same patient was 85%. Microsatellite studies, CGH, FISH, and classic cytogenetics represent complementary techniques that facilitate a comprehensive view of genetic alterations in malignancies such as primary gastric DLBCL.

Abstract
Genetic aberrations associated with the development of extranodal high-grade large B-cell lymphoma originating in the stomach have not been fully identified yet. We analyzed 31 such lymphomas using 73 microsatellite markers for allelic imbalance and microsatellite instability. The highest frequency (42%) of loss of heterozygosity (LOH) was found on the long arm of chromosome 6. We identified 2 LOH hot spots on 6q21-22.1 and 6q23.3-25, flanked by markers D6S246-D6S261 and D6S310-D6S441, respectively, containing putative tumor suppressor genes (TSGs). These 6q aberrations were found to be the sole allelic imbalance in 1 patient only; they were mostly accompanied by additional abnormalities. Several known TSGs, namely, the APC, p15/p16, p53, and DCC genes, were found to suffer frequent LOH during lymphomagenesis. LOH was also detected in regions containing putative TSGs on 7q and 13q14. Frequent amplification of genomic material was found in the 2p, 3q27 at the BCL-6 gene locus, 6p, 7q, 11q23-24 at the MLL gene locus, and 18q regions. Analysis of the pattern of occurrence of these aberrations revealed an association of the amplification of the MLL gene region with LOH at the p53 locus (P =.02). Only low frequency of microsatellite instability (MSI) was detected in these lymphomas and MSI incidence increased with age (P =.01). Karyotypic instability thus plays the main role in the development of gastric high-grade large B-cell lymphoma. Common genetic aberrations responsible for lymphomagenesis are deletions of 6q, loss of p53, and amplification of the 3q27 and the MLL gene regions. (Blood. 2000;95:1180-1187)

Abstract
We present high resolution 133Cs-13C double resonance NMR data and 13C-13C NMR correlation spectra of 13C enriched samples of the polymeric phase of CsC60. These data lead to a partial assignment of the lines in the 13C NMR spectrum of CsC60 to the carbon positions on the C60 molecule. A plausible completion of the assignment can be made on the basis of an ab initio calculation. The data support the view that the conduction electron density is concentrated at the C60 "equator," away from the interfullerene bonds.

Abstract
CD4+ T cells are a major component of the inflammatory infiltrate in rheumatoid synovitis. Within synovial lesions, clonal CD4+ T cell populations are detectable, supporting the notion of an antigen specific recognition even in the joint. In general, the clonal size of individual T cell clones is small and does not lead to a marked distortion of the synovial T cell receptor (TCR) repertoire. Comparison of TCR sequences derived from different patients has not provided evidence for common sequences. Either multiple antigens are recognized or the TCR repertoire is sufficiently plastic with a multitude of different TCR structures responding to the same antigen(s). However, within one individual, the repertoire of clonal T cell populations is restricted. Identical T cell clones can be identified in different joints and at different timepoints of the disease, emphasizing that the spectrum of antigens recognized is conserved over time and that the T cell response pattern is not subject to evolution. Characterization of antigens involved in the latter stages of the disease may thus provide critical information on disease-initiating events. Recent data have led to the new concept that the role of T cells in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is not limited to synovial inflammation. Evidence has been provided that the premorbid TCR repertoires of RA patients and normal controls can be distinguished. The T cell repertoire in RA patients is prone to recognize certain microbial products and autoantigens. The selection of this response pattern can only partially be attributed to the disease associated HLA-DRB1 alleles. Additional factors common in RA patients but not in HLA-DR matched control individuals seem to be important in shaping the TCR repertoire. Furthermore, the repertoire of mature T cells in RA patients is characterized by oligoclonality which involves T cells in the peripheral blood compartment. Possibly, these clonal T cell populations react to widespread autoantigens, raising the possibility that RA patients have a defect in controlling peripheral tolerance and an anomaly of lymphoproliferation. In contrast to joint residing CD4+ T cells, expanded clonotypes isolated from the blood of different patients have been described to share TCR beta chain structures. How these characteristic features of the global TCR repertoire in RA patients translate into mechanisms of disease remains to be elucidated.
