Abstract
Quantum computing can become scalable through error correction, but logical error rates only decrease with system size when physical errors are sufficiently uncorrelated. During computation, unused high energy levels of the qubits can become excited, creating leakage states that are long-lived and mobile. Particularly for superconducting transmon qubits, this leakage opens a path to errors that are correlated in space and time. Here, we report a reset protocol that returns a qubit to the ground state from all relevant higher level states. We test its performance with the bit-flip stabilizer code, a simplified version of the surface code for quantum error correction. We investigate the accumulation and dynamics of leakage during error correction. Using this protocol, we find lower rates of logical errors and an improved scaling and stability of error suppression with increasing qubit number. This demonstration provides a key step on the path towards scalable quantum computing.

Abstract
Maternal factors are essential aspects of oocyte competence, which orchestrate early embryonic development. ZNFO is a Krüppel-associated box domain (KRAB) containing zinc finger transcription factor, which is exclusively expressed in bovine oocyte. Previous studies have demonstrated that ZNFO is essential for early embryonic development. However, the mechanisms regulating ZNFO transcription remain elusive. The objective of present study is to elucidate regulatory mechanisms of ZNFO transcription invitro, and specifically to identify putative core promoter and transcription factor(s) regulating ZNFO expression. 5′ Random amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) was performed using RNA isolated from 100 germinal vesicle (GV) stage oocytes to identify the transcription start site (TSS) of ZNFO. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms of ZNFO transcription, a 1.7-kb fragment of the 5′ regulatory region was obtained and cloned into pGL4.14 promoterless vector. The luciferase reporter assay was performed to confirm the promoter activity of the regulatory region. To further identify the core promoter region of the putative ZNFO promoter, a series of 5′ deletions in the ZNFO promoter followed by luciferase reporter assay was performed. The luciferase results indicated that the core promoter region of ZNFO was located within a region 57 to 31bp upstream of the transcription start site. Bioinformatics analysis indicated that a putative USF1/USF2 binding site (GGTCTCGTGACC) is located within the core promoter region. USF1 is a basic helix–loop–helix leucine zipper transcription factor, which regulates the expression of various maternal genes, which are essential for oocyte maturation and early embryonic development in cattle. To confirm that USF1 regulated ZNFO expression, bovine USF1 open reading frame (ORF) was cloned into pcDNA3.1A-HA vector, generating a USF1 overexpression construct. Overexpression of USF1 by transfecting USF1 plasmid enhanced ZNFO promoter activity within HEK293 cells, confirming that ZNFO expression is regulated by USF1. From these results, we conclude that USF1 activates the ZNFO promoter by binding to its target site, GGTCTCGTGACC.

Abstract
Factors present in the oocyte and surrounding follicular cells aid in the attainment of oocyte competence. Agouti-signalling protein (ASIP) is a known regulator of melanocyte function through binding to melanocortin receptors including MC1R and MC4R. Additionally, ASIP has been classified as an adipokine due to a link with insulin resistance and obesity in humans. In mice, expression is limited to hair follicles where ASIP regulates hair pigmentation. In cattle, however, ASIP mRNA has been detected in a variety of tissues, including adipose, skin, heart, testis, and the ovary. Despite ovarian expression, the role of ASIP in reproduction remains undetermined. Bovine ASIP is a secreted protein consisting of 133 amino acids. The aim of this experiment was to provide a detailed description of the ASIP expression profile within the bovine ovary and during early embryonic development. Reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) was conducted to analyse ASIP, MC1R, and MC4R mRNA expression. Samples examined included fetal ovaries from gestational day 90 to 250, adult ovary, fetal testis, adult testis, and 12 somatic tissues including adrenal, cerebral cortex, gut, heart, intestine, kidney, liver, lung, muscle, pituitary, stomach, and thymus. Amplification of ribosomal protein L19 (RPL19) served as a positive control for all samples. Expression of ASIP was detected in the fetal testis, 9 somatic tissues, and the fetal and adult ovary. In the fetal ovary, ASIP was detected as early as 90 days of gestation and continued throughout gestation. Expression of the ASIP receptors, MC1R and MC4R, were detected exclusively in the fetal ovary. To further characterise ASIP expression, quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR) was utilised to examine samples including germinal vesicle and MII oocytes (pool of 10 oocytes), invitro-produced embryos ranging from the 2-cell to blastocyst stages (pool of 10 embryos), and cumulus and granulosa cells collected from a pool from 5 cumulus–oocyte complexes (COCs) and follicles, respectively. Theca cells from a single follicle were analysed. Samples with cycle threshold values below 35 were considered to express the gene of interest. Of the follicular cells examined, ASIP expression was present in theca, granulosa, and cumulus cells. ASIP expression was detected in both GV and MII oocytes. Early embryonic expression of ASIP was detected in the 2-cell embryo and continued to the blastocyst stage of development. In conclusion, ASIP is present in the bovine adult and fetal ovary, follicular cells including cumulus, granulosa, and theca cells, GV and MII oocytes, and invitro-produced embryos from the 2-cell to blastocyst stages. Future research will focus on identifying the function of ovarian and early embryonic ASIP in cattle.

Abstract
In mammals, maternal mRNAs accumulate in the oocyte and play important roles during early embryogenesis in embryonic genome activation. Proper development is dependent upon regulation of these maternal transcripts while simultaneously activating the embryonic genome. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulate various cellular processes, including modulation of gene expression and epigenetic status. Recently, lncRNAs have been functionally characterised as key regulators of embryonic genome activation in humans and mice. Our laboratory identified 1535 lncRNAs in bovine oocytes using RNA-sequencing. The objective of this study was to verify our RNA-seq data and if present, characterise the expression of six highly abundant lncRNAs (2160.1, 5379.1, 18208.1, 23721, 25823.1, and 34876.2) in single oocytes aspirated from varying size follicles at different developmental stages. Single oocytes were aspirated from small (<4mm) and presumably oestrogen active (6–18mm) follicles and were denuded at the germinal vesicle (GV) or MII stage. MII stage was determined by cumulus expansion and the extrusion of the first polar body. Real-time quantitative PCR analysis, using RPL-19 as a housekeeping gene analysed using the standard curve method, revealed detectable expression for each lncRNA in single oocytes from small (SF) and presumably oestrogen active (EA) follicles at both stages. Average expression of each lncRNA from SF was used as a calibrator in normalization. Effect of follicle size and maturity stage and their interaction on the lncRNA expression were examined using a two-factorial ANOVA followed by Tukey’s HSD post hoc test. In five lncRNAs (2160.1, 5379.1, 18208.1, 25823.1, and 34876.2), maturity stage was significant (P<0.05). Moreover, we found significant interaction of stage and size in expression of lncRNA 25823.1 (P<0.05). SF oocytes at the GV stage had the highest relative expression of lncRNA 25823.1. Specific differences were detected between SF MII and SF GV oocytes, indicating higher expression in the earlier developmental stage (P<0.05). The SF oocytes at MII had a 0.63-fold decrease in relative expression with respect to the SF oocytes at GV. In addition, we found a tendency for significant interaction between maturity stage and follicle size in the expression of lncRNA 5379.1 (P<0.1). LncRNA 5379.1 exhibited the same expression pattern as lncRNA 25823.1 with SF oocytes at MII having a 0.75-fold decrease in relative expression relative to SF oocytes at GV. In summary, both lncRNA 25823.1 and 5379.1 had higher expression in oocytes aspirated from small follicles during the earlier developmental stage. The literature indicates that follicle size can be an indicator of oocyte quality and that RNAs accumulated or degraded during maturation are crucial to achieve developmental competence. Therefore, lncRNAs 25823.1 and 5379.1 shows promise to be linked with oocyte quality.

Abstract
Abstract Objective To provide a theoretical basis for building a Y chromosome database in specific regions by analyzing the pedigree specific core haplogroup and region specific genetic structure in Changshu. Methods One thousand seven hundred and two samples from unrelated Han male individuals in Changshu were collected. Then 27 Y-STR were genotyped through YfilerTM Plus PCR Amplification Kit, Y-SNP haplogroup of each sample was speculated using Y-Predictor software and some samples were verified by amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction (ARMS-PCR). Results A total of 1 556 haplotypes were found on the 27 Y-STR genetic markers of the 1 702 samples. The haplotype diversity (HD) value was 0.999 827. DYS385 (0.933) had the highest gene diversity (GD) value while DYS438 (0.409) had the lowest. By the Y-Predictor software, all samples were confirmed to be from 162 sub-haplogroups of C, D, N, O, Q and R. Samples were randomly selected to verify the prediction results by the software and the prediction accuracy of Y-Predictor software was as high as 95.74%. Conclusion This study found that 27 Y-STR genetic markers have relatively high polymorphisms in the Changshu population, and have good forensic individual identification and paternity testing ability.

Abstract
Background Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common late complication in liver-transplanted patients who have received long-term therapy with calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs). Aims: To analyze kidney disease progression after liver transplantation. Methods We analysed the clinical data of adult single-organ liver transplant recipients performed at our centre between October 2003 and September 2009. The patients with the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) greater than 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 before surgery were included in the study. Results 69 patients with complete follow-up data were analysed. We found that eGFR at 1 or 2 years after liver transplantation correlated well with eGFR at 5 years. In addition, our results showed that patients whose eGFR declined below 60 at 2 years after liver transplantation would develop an irreversible renal injury in the following years. At 2 years, 12 patients had an eGFR less than 60, which were maintained in 11 patients at 5 years (Sensitivity = 11/12, 91.67%; Specificity = 57/58, 98.28%, Youden's index = 89.95%). The annual rate of eGFR reduction of the tacrolimus group was greater than that of the tacrolimus sparing group based on the value-time variation curve in our study. Moreover, the tacrolimus concentration influenced the CKD progression at 1 and 2 years with an under the ROC curve of 0.73 and 0.78 when Youden's index was at its maximum and the tacrolimus concentrations were 8.55 and 5.96 ng/ml, respectively. Conclusion We confirmed that eGFR at 2 years after liver transplantation is useful for observing a meaningful change in eGFR and renal damage. Obtaining the appropriate serum concentration of an early decrease of the dose of CNIs and transforming non-nephrotoxic immunosuppressants would help improve renal function to prevent CKD progression and end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Abstract
A quantitative description on dispersity of boehmite (γ-AlOOH) particles, a key component for waste slurry at Hanford sites, can provide useful knowledge for understanding various physicochemical nature of the waste. In situ liquid scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to evaluate the dispersity of particles in aqueous conditions using a microfluidic sample holder, System for Analysis at Liquid Vacuum Interface (SALVI). Secondary electron (SE) images and image analyses were performed to determine particle centroid locations and the distance to the nearest neighbour particle centroid, providing reliable rescaled interparticle distances as a function of ionic strength in acidic and basic conditions. Our finding of the particle dispersity is consistent with physical insights from corresponding particle interactions under physicochemical conditions, demonstrating delicate changes in dispersity of boehmite particles based on novel in situ liquid SEM imaging and analysis. LAY DESCRIPTION: In situ liquid scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to determine the interparticle distance of boehmite (γ-AlOOH) particles, a key component for waste slurry at Hanford sites. This type of quantitative measurement is important to understand various physicochemical nature of the radiological waste containing boehmite. In situ liquid SEM was enabled by a unique vacuum compatible microfluidic cell, System for Analysis at Liquid Vacuum Interface (SALVI). We collected secondary electron (SE) images and performed image analyses to determine particle centroid locations and the distance to the nearest neighbour particle centroid to arrive at the interparticle distances in acidic and basic conditions. Our results show that delicate changes occur among boehmite particles under different pH conditions using novel in situ SEM imaging.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the performance of methods based on text mining to screen suicidal behaviors according to chief complaint of the psychiatric inpatients. METHODS Electronic Medical Records of inpatients with mental disorders were collected. Text mining method was adopted to screen suicidal behaviors. The performances of different combinations of six algorithms and two term weighting factors were compared under various training set sizes, which were assessed by precision, recall, F1-value and accuracy. RESULTS A total of 3600 psychiatric inpatients (1800 with suicidal behaviors and 1800 without suicidal behaviors) were included in this study. In chief complaints of suicidal inpatients, "suicide", "notion" and "suspicion" were the commonest statements, appearing 1228, 705 and 638 times respectively. In contrast, "excitement", "instability" and "impulsion" appeared more frequently in chief complaints of patients without suicidal behaviors (599, 599, 534 times respectively). The performance of each algorithm was generally improved with the increasing training set sizes and tended to be stable when the number of training cases reached 1000, where most of them could achieve satisfactory accuracy values (>0.95). Results of testing set showed that SVM, Random Forest and AdaBoost weighted by TF had better generalization ability. The F1 values were 0.9889 for SVM, 0.9838 for random forest and 0.9828 for AdaBoost, respectively. CONCLUSION This study confirmed the feasibility of filtering suicidal inpatients with small amounts of representative terms. SVM, Random Forest and AdaBoost weighted by TF have better performance in this task. Our findings provided a practical way to automatically classify patients with or without suicidal behaviors before admission to hospital, which potentially led to considerable savings in time and human resources for identification of high-risk patients and suicide prevention.

Abstract
Chronic stress is a crucial public issue that occurs when a person is repetitively stimulated by various stressors. Previous researches have reported that chronic stress induces spermatogenesis dysfunction in the reproductive system, but its molecular mechanisms remain unclear. The nectin protein family, including nectin-1 to nectin-4, is Ca(2+)-independent immunoglobulin-like cell adhesion molecules, that are widely expressed in the hippocampus, testicular tissue, epithelial cells and other sites. Nectin-3 contributes to the sperm development at the late stage, and the abnormal expression of nectin-3 impairs spermatogenesis. Some recent studies have demonstrated that stress induces a decrease in nectin-3 expression in the hippocampus via corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) to corticotropin-releasing hormone receptor 1 (CRHR1) pathway. Here, we tested whether chronic stress also caused a reduction in nectin-3 expression in the testis. We established a chronic social defeat stress paradigm, which provides naturalistic and complex chronic stress in male C57BL/6 mice. After 25 days of chronic social defeat stress, the mice showed weight loss, thymic atrophy and some other typical symptoms of chronic stress (e.g. anxiety-like behavior and social avoidance behavior). We found gonad atrophy, testicular histological structure changes and semen quality reductions in the stressed mice. The stressed male mice significantly spent more time to impregnate the female mice than the control male mice. Moreover, nectin-3 protein levels in stressed mice were significantly decreased in the testes compared with those in control mice. In addition, we found that the CRHR1 expression level was increased in the testes of stressed mice. Therefore, we demonstrated a decreased level of nectin-3 expression and an increase in CRHR1 expression in the testis after exposure to chronic stress, which may provide a potential therapeutic target for the spermatogenesis dysfunction induced by chronic stress.

Abstract
The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected medical treatment protocols throughout the world. While the pandemic does not affect hand surgeons at first glance, they have a role to play. The purpose of this study was to describe the different measures that have been put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic by hand surgeons throughout the world. The survey comprised 47 surgeons working in 34 countries who responded to an online questionnaire. We found that the protocols varied in terms of visitors, health professionals in the operating room, patient waiting areas, wards and emergency rooms. Based on these preliminary findings, an international consensus on hand surgery practices for the current viral pandemic, and future ones, needs to be built rapidly.

Abstract
PURPOSE Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have participated in progression of colorectal cancer. This study aims to study the role of RUNX1/RNCR3/miR-1301-3p/AKT1 axis in colorectal cancer. METHODS The cancer tissues were from patients with colorectal cancer. The qRT-PCR was used to determine expression of lncRNA RNCR3, miR-1301-3p, and AKT1. Both dual-luciferase reporter assay and ChIP assay were conducted to investigate the binding sites of RUNX1 on RNCR3 promoter. Western blot was performed to analyze expression of AKT1 protein. Both dual-luciferase reporter assay and RIP assay were performed to detect the interacting sites between RNCR3 and miR-1301-3p. The CCK-8 assay, soft agar assay, transwell assay, and annexin-V-FITC/PI staining were applied to analyze the cell growth, invasion, and apoptosis, respectively. RESULTS The data demonstrated that RNCR3 was elevated in colorectal cancer, and it was negatively correlated with expression of miR-1301-3p which was decreased in cancers. Then, RNCR3 could interact with and suppress miR-1301-3p expression in HCT116 and SW480. Knockdown of RNCR3 or miR-1301-3p overexpression significantly inhibited cell growth, invasion, and increased apoptosis through suppressing expression of Cyclin A1, PCNA, N-cadherin, Bcl-2, and promoting expression of E-cadherin, Bax in vitro and in vivo. RUNX1 was directly bound to RNCR3 promoter to activate RNCR3 expression. Furthermore, overexpression of RNCR3 blocked tumor inhibitory effects of miR-1301-3p on proliferation, colony formation, invasion, and apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. Additionally, RNCR3 and miR-1301-3p synergistically modulated AKT1 expression. CONCLUSION RUNX1-activated upregulation of RNCR3 promoted colorectal cancer progression by sponging miR-1301-3p to elevate AKT1 levels in vitro and in vivo.

Abstract
We demonstrate diabatic two-qubit gates with Pauli error rates down to 4.3(2)×10^{-3} in as fast as 18 ns using frequency-tunable superconducting qubits. This is achieved by synchronizing the entangling parameters with minima in the leakage channel. The synchronization shows a landscape in gate parameter space that agrees with model predictions and facilitates robust tune-up. We test both iswap-like and cphase gates with cross-entropy benchmarking. The presented approach can be extended to multibody operations as well.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The incidence and mortality of coronary heart disease are rapidly increasing in recent years. Myocardial cell dysfunction and cell senescence may play a role in coronary heart disease. MicroRNA controls a variety of biological processes, but leaving its role in coronary heart disease has yet to be explored. PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients with coronary heart disease were regarded as subjects, and healthy volunteers as the control, on both of which microRNA124b level of serum was studied by Real-time PCR, and the heart function of patients was detected by using ultrasound. The relationship between serum microRNA124b level and cardiac function was analyzed along with the model of rat coronary artery disease; the level of aging proteins P21 and P53 in cardiac muscle cells was also tested. RESULTS MicroRNA124b in the serum of patients with coronary heart disease was increased, and the heart function of patients was decreased (p < 0.05). Serum level of microRNA124b in a rat model of coronary heart disease was increased, and the cardiac function was decreased (p < 0.05). When myocardial cell appeared ageing, the level of P21 and P53 was increased, and the level of microRNA124b was related with P53. CONCLUSIONS The level of microRNA124b in the serum of coronary heart disease patients and rat model may be related to the occurrence of coronary heart disease; microRNA124b may lead to the occurrence of coronary heart disease by causing cell senescence.

Abstract
Objective:Imaging findings and treatment of sharp foreign bodies penetrating the esophagus to migrate in the neck were collected. Method:All of 9 cases were determined by CT imaging. The foreign bodies were removed in 8 cases through the lateral cervical approach. The last case was taken out by bronchoscope. Eight cases successfully removed the foreign bodies. No definite foreign body was found in 1 case. Result:There were no postoperative complications in 8 patients that successful removed of foreign bodies. All patients begin to eat normally after operation and were discharged from hospital in 7 days. Tracheoesophageal fistula occurred that happened to the patient that no foreign body was found in operation. So gastric tube was retained for 7 days. Conclusion:CT imaging should be performed to determine whether there is the possibility of foreign body penetrating out of the esophagus, for the patients who had explicit history but the foreignbodies could not be found by barium meal examination. If necessary, three-dimensional CT reconstruction of the neck should be performed to locate the foreign body. Surgical exploration should be done as soon as possible to avoid aimless migration of foreign bodies, and it is difficult to find it during operation.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of long-chain non-coding RNA Fez family zinc finger protein 1 antisense RNA1 (lncRNA FEZF1-AS1) on the biological function of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: SMMC771 and BEL-7402 cells were transfected with sh-FEZF1-AS1 and OE-FEZF1-AS1, respectively. The expression of lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 was detected by real-time quantitative PCR. Cell proliferation was detected by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), and apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry. The effects of lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 on invasion and migration were detected by Transwell and wound healing assays. The expression levels of adhesion molecules were detected by Western blot. The effect of lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 on the in vivo growth was verified by nude mice xenograft experiments. Results: The silencing or ectopic expression of lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 inhibited or promoted the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma cells. CCK-8 assay showed that the proliferation abilities of SMMC7721 and BEL-7402 cells in sh-FEZF1-AS1 transfection group significantly decreased, achieving (35.43±4.06)% and (34.68±3.97)%, respectively, on the fifth day. There were significant differences between sh-FEZF1-AS1 group and sh-NC group [52.21±8.46)% and (53.76±7.64)%] (all P<0.05). In contrast, the proliferation ability of SMMC7721 and BEL-7402 cells transfected with OE-FEZF1-AS1 was significantly increased, achieving (83.49±6.92)% and (80.31±3.13)%, respectively, on the fifth day. There were significant differences between OE-FEZF1-AS1 and OE-NC group [53.03±8.84)% and (55.11±7.09)%] (all P<0.05). The subsequent flow cytometry results showed that cell apoptotic rates of SMMC7721 and BEL-7402 cells transfected with sh-FEZF1-AS1 were (13.02±1.38)% and (11.88±1.29)%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in sh-NC groups [(5.57±1.46)% and (8.06±1.42)%, respectively, all P<0.05]. In contrast, the apoptotic rates of SMMC7721 and BEL-7402 cells transfected with OE-FEZF1-AS1 were (3.01±0.39)% and (3.22±0.43)%, which were significantly lower than those in OE-NC groups [(6.68±0.96)% and (6.63±0.45)%, all P<0.05]. In addition, knockdown or overexpression of lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 expression inhibited or enhanced the migration and invasion abilities as well as the levels of adhesion molecules in hepatocellular carcinoma cells. After 30 days of feeding under the same conditions, the tumor volumes of sh-FEZF1-AS1 and sh-NC SMMC7721 cells xenograft mice models were (0.26±0.03) cm(3) and (0.63±0.06) cm(3), respectively, showing significant difference (P<0.05). The tumor volumes of sh-FEZF1-AS1 and sh-NC BEL-7402 cells were (0.31±0.02) cm(3) and (0.72±0.08) cm(3), and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 may strengthen the growth, migration and invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

Abstract
The prevention of Botrytis cinerea infection and the study of grape seedlessness are very important for grape industries. Finding correlated regulatory genes is an important approach towards understanding their molecular mechanisms. Ethylene responsive factor (ERF) gene family play critical roles in defence networks and the growth of plants. To date, no large-scale study of the ERF proteins associated with pathogen defence and ovule development has been performed in grape (Vitis vinifera L.). In the present study, we identified 113 ERF genes (VvERF) and named them based on their chromosome locations. The ERF genes could be divided into 11 groups based on a multiple sequence alignment and a phylogenetic comparison with homologues from Arabidopsis thaliana. Synteny analysis and Ka/Ks ratio calculation suggested that segmental and tandem duplications contributed to the expansion of the ERF gene family. The evolutionary relationships between the VvERF genes were investigated by exon-intron structure characterisation, and an analysis of the cis-acting regulatory elements in their promoters suggested potential regulation after stress or hormone treatments. Expression profiling after infection with the fungus, B. cinerea, indicated that ERF genes function in responses to pathogen attack. In addition, the expression levels of most ERF genes were much higher during ovule development in seedless grapes, suggesting a role in ovule abortion related to seedlessness. Taken together, these results indicate that VvERF proteins are involved in responses to Botrytis cinerea infection and in grape ovule development. This information may help guide strategies to improve grape production.

Abstract
During joint inflammation, various reactive oxygen species (ROS) are present in the surrounding tissue and joint fluid. In the laboratory, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is typically used to simulate inflammatory conditions, and media containing proteins and hyaluronic acid (HA) are employed to simulate joint synovial fluid. Electrochemical interactions between H2O2 and HA in the presence of a CoCrMo surface are expected, since HA molecules contain redox-active moieties. We hypothesized that any redox reactions of these moieties with ROS will mitigate the oxidizing effect of H2O2 on the CoCrMo surface, limiting the corrosion rate of the metal. Non-destructive electrochemical measurements (open circuit potential, linear polarization resistance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) were used to investigate the corrosion response of CoCrMo in synovial model fluid containing physiologically relevant concentrations of albumin proteins and hyaluronic acid, with and without H2O2. Two different molarities of H2O2, 3 mM and 30 mM, were tested. While both molarities are within physiological limits, 3mM is well within the range HA could mitigate, whereas 30 mM is not. Contrary to our hypothesis, HA did not alleviate corrosion in 3 mM H2O2 and even caused a corrosion increase in the case of 30 mM H2O2. The decrease in corrosion resistance of the alloy may be attributed to the complexation of degenerated HA molecular chains with chromium ions released from the metallic surface, which are necessary to build a protective oxide film. This finding has clinical implications, suggesting that HA accelerates corrosion of CoCrMo implants in the presence of strong inflammation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Acidification of the tumor microenvironment from abnormal metabolism along with angiogenesis to meet metabolic demands are both hallmarks of malignant brain tumors; however, the interdependency of tumor acidity and vascularity has not been explored. Therefore, our aim was to investigate the association between pH-sensitive amine chemical exchange saturation transfer echoplanar imaging (CEST-EPI) and relative cerebral blood volume (CBV) measurements obtained from dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) perfusion MRI in patients with gliomas. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this retrospective study, 90 patients with histologically confirmed gliomas were scanned between 2015 and 2018 (median age, 50.3 years; male/female ratio = 59:31). pH-weighting was obtained using chemical exchange saturation transfer echo-planar imaging estimation of the magnetization transfer ratio asymmetry at 3 ppm, and CBV was estimated using DSC-MR imaging. The voxelwise correlation and patient-wise median value correlation between the magnetization transfer ratio asymmetry at 3 ppm and CBV within T2-hyperintense lesions and contrast-enhancing lesions were evaluated using the Pearson correlation analysis. RESULTS General colocalization of elevated perfusion and high acidity was observed in tumors, with local intratumor heterogeneity. For patient-wise analysis, median CBV and magnetization transfer ratio asymmetry at 3 ppm within T2-hyperintense lesions were significantly correlated (R = 0.3180, P = .002), but not in areas of contrast enhancement (P = .52). The positive correlation in T2-hyperintense lesions remained within high-grade gliomas (R = 0.4128, P = .001) and in isocitrate dehydrogenase wild-type gliomas (R = 0.4300, P = .002), but not in World Health Organization II or in isocitrate dehydrogenase mutant tumors. Both magnetization transfer ratio asymmetry at 3 ppm and the voxelwise correlation between magnetization transfer ratio asymmetry and CBV were higher in high-grade gliomas compared with low-grade gliomas in T2-hyperintense tumors (magnetization transfer ratio asymmetry, P = .02; Pearson correlation, P = .01). The same trend held when comparing isocitrate dehydrogenase wild-type gliomas and isocitrate dehydrogenase mutant gliomas (magnetization transfer ratio asymmetry, P = .04; Pearson correlation, P = .01). CONCLUSIONS A positive linear correlation between CBV and acidity in areas of T2-hyperintense, nonenhancing tumor, but not enhancing tumor, was observed across patients. Local heterogeneity was observed within individual tumors.

Abstract
To explore how Tim-3 is expressed and how its expression influences invasion and metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. A total of 188 CRC patients were prospectively collected for this study. Meanwhile, 135 normal controls were incorporated during the same period. Intestinal samples of the CRC radical cancerous tissues, paracancerous tissues ( 5.0 cm beyond the cancer tissue) were collected for the following experiment. Furthermore, peripheral venous blood samples (10 ml) were collected from each subject. Immunohistochemical analysis, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blot were performed for the detection of Tim-3 in different tissues. The immunohistochemical staining results showed that a positive Tim-3 signal was localized in the cytoplasm and nucleus, observed as yellow or brown granules. Tim-3 was largely expressed in colon carcinoma tissues and normal colon mucosa tissues but was rarely expressed in the cell membrane. RT-qPCR results indicated that Tim-3 mRNA levels were significantly lower in CRC tissues than in paracancerous tissues and normal colon mucosa tissues. A trend of decreased Tim-3 mRNA levels was also found in the paracancerous tissues compared with the normal colon mucosa tissues (all P < 0.05). Western blot results revealed reduced Tim-3 protein expression in CRC tissues compared with normal colon mucosa tissues and paracancerous tissues, and Tim-3 protein expression was much lower in the paracancerous tissues than in the normal colon mucosa tissues (all P < 0.05). Furthermore, obviously lower Tim-3 mRNA levels were found in the poorly differentiated CRC patients and in those with lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis (all P < 0.05). Collectively, Tim-3 expression was mainly located in the cytoplasm and nucleus, showing down-regulated expression in colon carcinoma tissues compared with normal and paracancerous tissues. Reduced Tim-3 expression may promote CRC invasion and metastasis providing a medical reference for the treatment of CRC.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the indications and safety of orthopedic liver transplantation for polycystic liver disease (PLD). Methods: Data of 11 patients with PLD who underwent orthotopic liver transplantation between 2004 and 2013 was retrospectively analyzed. Demographic, clinical and follow-up data were collected for statistical analysis. The survival rate was calculated by Kaplan-Meier method. Results: Over a period of 10 years, the patients received modified piggyback orthopedic liver transplantation (n=9) or combined liver-kidney transplantation (n=2) for PLD. The recipients' median age was 56 years. Seven patients were classified as Gigot type Ⅱ PLD, and four were classified as Gigot type Ⅲ PLD. Eight patients had severe decreased mobility (Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, ECOG≥3). Only three cases were Child-Pguh Class C patients and the model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score was>20. The mean hospitalization duration was (45.4±15.3) days, and the mean length of stay in intensive care unit was (4.1±1.9) days. The perioperative mortality was 18.2% and morbidity of complications was 63.6%. The median follow-up period was 111 months. Two patients died of severe complications after combined liver-kidney transplantation. One patient died of ischemia cholangitis during follow-up. The actuarial 1-, 5-and 10-year survival rate during the follow-up period was 82.2%, 81.8%, and 65.5%, respectively. Conclusions: Liver transplantation is the only curative and safe procedure for PLD, and it provides a good long-term prognosis and high quality of life for PLD patients. Liver transplantation could be a primary option in treating progressive or advanced PLD.

Despite
performance improvements of organic photovoltaics, the
mechanism of photoinduced electron–hole separation at organic
donor–acceptor interfaces remains poorly understood. Inconclusive
experimental and theoretical results have produced contradictory models
for electron–hole separation in which the role of interfacial
charge-transfer (CT) states is unclear, with one model identifying
them as limiting separation and another as readily dissociating. Here,
polymer–fullerene blends with contrasting photocurrent properties
and enthalpic offsets driving separation were studied. By modifying
composition, film structures were varied from consisting of molecularly
mixed polymer–fullerene domains to consisting of both molecularly
mixed and fullerene domains. Transient absorption spectroscopy revealed
that CT state dissociation generating separated electron–hole
pairs is only efficient in the high energy offset blend with fullerene
domains. In all other blends (with low offset or predominantly molecularly
mixed domains), nanosecond geminate electron–hole recombination
is observed revealing the importance of spatially localized electron–hole
pairs (bound CT states) in the electron–hole dynamics. A two-dimensional
lattice exciton model was used to simulate the excited state spectrum
of a model system as a function of microstructure and energy offset.
The results could reproduce the main features of experimental electroluminescence
spectra indicating that electron–hole pairs become less bound
and more spatially separated upon increasing energy offset and fullerene
domain density. Differences between electroluminescence and photoluminescence
spectra could be explained by CT photoluminescence being dominated
by more-bound states, reflecting geminate recombination processes,
while CT electroluminescence preferentially probes less-bound CT states
that escape geminate recombination. These results suggest that apparently
contradictory studies on electron–hole separation can be explained
by the presence of both bound and unbound CT states in the same film,
as a result of a range of interface structures.

Abstract
Objective: Accurate gating for data acquisition of computed tomography (CT) is crucial to obtaining high quality images for diagnosing cardiovascular diseases. To illustrate the feasibility of an optimized cardiac gating strategy, we present a near real-time implementation based on fusing seismocardiography (SCG) and ECG. Methods: The implementation was achieved via integrating commercial hardware and software platforms. Testing was performed on five healthy subjects (age: 24–27; m/f: 4/1) and three cardiac patients (age: 41–71; m/f: 2/1), and compared with baseline quiescence derived from echocardiography. Results: The average latency introduced by computerized processing was 5.1 ms, well within a 100 ms tolerance bounded by data accumulation time for quiescence prediction. The average prediction error associated with conventional ECG-only versus SCG-ECG-based method over all subjects were 59.58 ms and 27.24 ms, respectively. Discussion: The results demonstrate that the multimodal framework can achieve improved quiescence prediction accuracy over the ECG-only-based method in near real-time.
