Abstract
AIM To assess the efficacy and safety of imidafenacin compared with propiverine for treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) in Korean patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with OAB symptoms were randomised to double-blind treatment with 0.1 mg of imidafenacin twice daily (group A) or propiverine 20 mg once daily (group B) for 12-week regimen, and assessed for efficacy and safety. The primary efficacy outcome was per cent change of weekly urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) episodes at week 12. The secondary efficacy outcomes were changes in the micturitions per day, urine volume voided per micturition, urgency episodes per day, complete disappearance of incontinence episodes and severity of urgency from baseline to week 12. Quality of life and safety profiles were also compared. RESULTS Of 162 patients randomised, 140 completed the study protocol. The per cent change of weekly UUI episodes at week 12 was -69.1% in group A and -70.4% in group B (both p < 0.0001). The lower limit of 95% one-sided confidence interval of the difference between the groups was above the non-inferiority margin (-19.42%). Other voiding parameters and quality of life significantly improved at week 12 in both the groups. The discontinuation rates caused by adverse events were low in both the groups. While dry mouth was the most common adverse event (group A: 28.4% vs. B: 30.4%, p = 0.783), the severity of dry mouth was significantly less in the group A than B (p = 0.042) There were no significant differences in other safety profiles. CONCLUSIONS After the 12-week treatment of imidafenacin 0.1 mg twice daily, all OAB symptoms and quality of life improved. Imidafenacin was not inferior to propiverine for the reduction of UUI episodes, and was better tolerated than propiverine in the safety profile. Our results indicate that imidafenacin is a safe and effective drug in Korean patients with OAB.

Jet and underlying event properties as a function of charged-particle multiplicity in proton-proton collisions at [Formula: see text]. THE EUROPEAN PHYSICAL JOURNAL. Abstract
Characteristics of multi-particle production in proton-proton collisions at [Formula: see text] are studied as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity, Nch. The produced particles are separated into two classes: those belonging to jets and those belonging to the underlying event. Charged particles are measured with pseudorapidity |η|<2.4 and transverse momentum pT>0.25 GeV/c. Jets are reconstructed from charged-particles only and required to have pT>5 GeV/c. The distributions of jet pT, average pT of charged particles belonging to the underlying event or to jets, jet rates, and jet shapes are presented as functions of Nch and compared to the predictions of the pythia and herwig event generators. Predictions without multi-parton interactions fail completely to describe the Nch-dependence observed in the data. For increasing Nch, pythia systematically predicts higher jet rates and harder pT spectra than seen in the data, whereas herwig shows the opposite trends. At the highest multiplicity, the data-model agreement is worse for most observables, indicating the need for further tuning and/or new model ingredients.

Abstract
A search for anomalous production of events with three or more isolated leptons and bottom-quark jets produced in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV is presented. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb(-1) collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2012. No excess above the standard model expectations is observed. The results are interpreted in the context of supersymmetric models with signatures that have low missing transverse energy arising from light top-squark pair production with R-parity-violating decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle. In two models with different R-parity-violating couplings, top squarks are excluded below masses of 1020 GeV and 820 GeV when the lightest supersymmetric particle has a mass of 200 GeV.

Abstract
Searches for anomalous top quark-antiquark production are presented, based on pp collisions at √s=8 TeV. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb(-1), were collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The observed tt¯ invariant mass spectrum is found to be compatible with the standard model prediction. Limits on the production cross section times branching fraction probe, for the first time, a region of parameter space for certain models of new physics not yet constrained by precision measurements.

Abstract
UNLABELLED We determined the incidence of second hip fracture and evaluated whether compliant and persistent users of bisphosphonate had a lower incidence of second hip fracture after prior hip fracture, from a national claim registry. INTRODUCTION Bisphosphonate is prescribed worldwide for the primary prevention of osteoporotic fracture. However, the association between adherent use of bisphosphonate and prevention of second hip fracture is unclear. Our purpose was to determine whether the adherent use of bisphosphonate was associated with a decreased risk of second hip fracture in South Korea, using a nationwide database. METHODS From 2007 to 2011, first and second hip fractures were identified using the ICD-10 and procedure code form from the nationwide database of the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service. Compliant use of bisphosphonate was defined as a patient medication possession ratio of 80 or more. Persistent users were defined patients with a refill gap of 30 days or less. We compared the incidence of second hip fracture in compliant and persistent users and non-users. RESULTS Among 59,782 patients with first hip fracture, in this study, 1,336 second hip fracture occurred after the initial hip fracture during the study period. The mean age at the first hip fracture was 75.4 years (range, 50 to 100 years). The cumulative 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year incidence of second hip fracture was 1.0% (552/59,782), 1.9% (1,123/59,782), and 2.2% (1,336/59,782), respectively. After multivariate analysis, compliant and persistent use of bisphosphonate was significantly independent protectors for second hip fracture (HR, 0.595; 95% CI, 0.400-0.885; HR, 0.433; 95% CI, 0.327-0.573, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Compliant and persistent use of bisphosphonate decreases the risk of second hip fracture, in terms of secondary prevention.

Search for supersymmetry in hadronic final states with missing transverse energy using the variables αT and b-quark multiplicity in pp collisions at [Formula: see text]. THE EUROPEAN PHYSICAL JOURNAL. C, PARTICLES AND FIELDS 2013; 73:2568. Abstract
An inclusive search for supersymmetric processes that produce final states with jets and missing transverse energy is performed in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 11.7 fb-1 collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. In this search, a dimensionless kinematic variable, αT, is used to discriminate between events with genuine and misreconstructed missing transverse energy. The search is based on an examination of the number of reconstructed jets per event, the scalar sum of transverse energies of these jets, and the number of these jets identified as originating from bottom quarks. No significant excess of events over the standard model expectation is found. Exclusion limits are set in the parameter space of simplified models, with a special emphasis on both compressed-spectrum scenarios and direct or gluino-induced production of third-generation squarks. For the case of gluino-mediated squark production, gluino masses up to 950-1125 GeV are excluded depending on the assumed model. For the direct pair-production of squarks, masses up to 450 GeV are excluded for a single light first- or second-generation squark, increasing to 600 GeV for bottom squarks.

Measurement of the Bs(0)→μ+ μ- branching fraction and search for B(0)→μ+ μ- with the CMS experiment. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2013; 111:101804. Abstract
Results are presented from a search for the rare decays Bs(0)→μ+ μ- and B(0)→μ+ μ- in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=7 and 8 TeV, with data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of 5 and 20 fb(-1), respectively, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. An unbinned maximum-likelihood fit to the dimuon invariant mass distribution gives a branching fraction B(Bs(0)→μ+ μ-)=(3.0(-0.9)(+1.0))×10(-9), where the uncertainty includes both statistical and systematic contributions. An excess of Bs(0)→μ+ μ- events with respect to background is observed with a significance of 4.3 standard deviations. For the decay B(0)→μ+ μ- an upper limit of B(B(0)→μ+ μ-)<1.1×10(-9) at the 95% confidence level is determined. Both results are in agreement with the expectations from the standard model.

Abstract
The longitudinal and transverse sound speeds, cL and cT, of polycrystalline cerium were measured under pressure across the iso-structural γ-α phase transition at 0.75 GPa to beyond 3 GPa. In contrast to previous methods all quantities were directly obtained and no assumptions were made about the size of the volume collapse. Up to the transition our values for cL are in excellent agreement with previous ones, while our values for cT are significantly lower. We deduce values for the adiabatic bulk modulus BS, the shear modulus [Formula: see text], and the pressure dependent Debye temperature, ΘD(p). ΘD(p) is in good agreement with recent results derived from phonon dispersion measurements on single crystals. The ratio of the Debye temperature values bracketing the transition indicates a lattice contribution to the entropy change across the volume collapse, ΔSvib(γ → α) ≈ (0.68 ± 0.06)kB, consistent with previous results obtained by neutron scattering, but significantly larger than other previously determined values.

Inclusive search for supersymmetry using razor variables in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2013; 111:081802. Abstract
An inclusive search is presented for new heavy particle pairs produced in √s=7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC using 4.7±0.1 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The selected events are analyzed in the 2D razor space of M(R), an event-by-event indicator of the heavy particle mass scale, and R, a dimensionless variable related to the missing transverse energy. The third-generation sector is probed using the event heavy-flavor content. The search is sensitive to generic supersymmetry models with minimal assumptions about the superpartner decay chains. No excess is observed in the number of events beyond that predicted by the standard model. Exclusion limits are derived in the CMSSM framework as well as for simplified models. Within the CMSSM parameter space considered, gluino masses up to 800 GeV and squark masses up to 1.35 TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level depending on the model parameters. The direct production of pairs of top or bottom squarks is excluded for masses as high as 400 GeV.

Abstract
A search for physics beyond the standard model is performed with events having one or more hadronically decaying τ leptons, highly energetic jets, and large transverse momentum imbalance. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.98 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at [Formula: see text] collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2011. The number of observed events is consistent with predictions for standard model processes. Lower limits on the mass of the gluino in supersymmetric models are determined.

Abstract
A simultaneous measurement of the top-quark, W-boson, and neutrino masses is reported for [Formula: see text] events selected in the dilepton final state from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb-1 collected by the CMS experiment in pp collisions at [Formula: see text]. The analysis is based on endpoint determinations in kinematic distributions. When the neutrino and W-boson masses are constrained to their world-average values, a top-quark mass value of [Formula: see text] is obtained. When such constraints are not used, the three particle masses are obtained in a simultaneous fit. In this unconstrained mode the study serves as a test of mass determination methods that may be used in beyond standard model physics scenarios where several masses in a decay chain may be unknown and undetected particles lead to underconstrained kinematics.

Abstract
Results are reported from a search for new physics processes in events containing a single isolated high-transverse-momentum lepton (electron or muon), energetic jets, and large missing transverse momentum. The analysis is based on a 4.98 fb-1 sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, obtained with the CMS detector at the LHC. Three separate background estimation methods, each relying primarily on control samples in the data, are applied to a range of signal regions, providing complementary approaches for estimating the background yields. The observed yields are consistent with the predicted standard model backgrounds. The results are interpreted in terms of limits on the parameter space for the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, as well as on cross sections for simplified models, which provide a generic description of the production and decay of new particles in specific, topology based final states. The results are based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1), recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC in 2011. The measurement is performed in two independent channels through a trilepton analysis of ttZ events and a same-sign dilepton analysis of ttV (V = W or Z) events. In the trilepton channel a direct measurement of the ttZ cross section σ(ttZ) = 0.28(-0.11)(+0.14) (stat)(-0.03)(+0.06) (syst) pb is obtained. In the dilepton channel a measurement of the ttV cross section yields σ(ttV) = 0.43(-0.15)(+0.17) (stat)(-0.07)(+0.09) (syst) pb. These measurements have a significance, respectively, of 3.3 and 3.0 standard deviations from the background hypotheses and are compatible, within uncertainties, with the corresponding next-to-leading order predictions of 0.137(-0.016)(+0.012) and 0.306(-0.053)(+0.031) pb.

Abstract
A search for the pair production of a heavy, narrow resonance decaying into two jets has been performed using events collected in sqrt[s] = 7 TeV pp collisions with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1). Events are selected with at least four jets and two dijet combinations with similar dijet mass. No resonances are found in the dijet mass spectrum. The upper limit at 95% confidence level on the product of the resonance pair production cross section, the branching fractions into dijets, and the acceptance varies from 0.22 to 0.005 pb, for resonance masses between 250 and 1200 GeV. Pair-produced colorons decaying into qq are excluded for coloron masses between 250 and 740 GeV.

Search for pair production of third-generation leptoquarks and top squarks in pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 7 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2013; 110:081801. Abstract
Results are presented from a search for the pair production of third-generation scalar and vector leptoquarks, as well as for top squarks in R-parity-violating supersymmetric models. In either scenario, the new, heavy particle decays into a τ lepton and a b quark. The search is based on a data sample of pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 7 TeV, which is collected by the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.8 fb(-1). The number of observed events is found to be in agreement with the standard model prediction, and exclusion limits on mass parameters are obtained at the 95% confidence level. Vector leptoquarks with masses below 760 GeV are excluded and, if the branching fraction of the scalar leptoquark decay to a τ lepton and a b quark is assumed to be unity, third-generation scalar leptoquarks with masses below 525 GeV are ruled out. Top squarks with masses below 453 GeV are excluded for a typical benchmark scenario, and limits on the coupling between the top squark, τ lepton, and b quark, λ(333)(') are obtained. These results are the most stringent for these scenarios to date.

Abstract
The polarizations of the Υ(1S), Υ(2S), and Υ(3S) mesons are measured in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s] = 7 TeV, using a data sample of Υ(nS) → μ +μ- decays collected by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 fb(-1). The dimuon decay angular distributions are analyzed in three different polarization frames. The polarization parameters λ[symbol see text], λ(φ), and λ([symbol see text]φ), as well as the frame-invariant quantity λ, are presented as a function of the Υ(nS) transverse momentum between 10 and 50 GeV, in the rapidity ranges |y|<0.6 and 0.6<|y|<1.2. No evidence of large transverse or longitudinal polarizations is seen in the explored kinematic region.

Study of the mass and spin-parity of the Higgs boson candidate via its decays to Z boson pairs. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2013; 110:081803. Abstract
A study is presented of the mass and spin-parity of the new boson recently observed at the LHC at a mass near 125 GeV. An integrated luminosity of 17.3 fb(-1), collected by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, is used. The measured mass in the ZZ channel, where both Z bosons decay to e or μ pairs, is 126.2 ± 0.6(stat) ± 0.2(syst) GeV. The angular distributions of the lepton pairs in this channel are sensitive to the spin-parity of the boson. Under the assumption of spin 0, the present data are consistent with the pure scalar hypothesis, while disfavoring the pure pseudoscalar hypothesis.

Abstract
We previously reported the development of genomic-DNA-based high-resolution genotyping methods for SLA-DQB1 and DRB1. Here, we report the successful typing of SLA-DQA using similar methodological principles. We designed a method for comprehensive genotyping of SLA-DQA using intronic sequence information of SLA-DQA exon 2 that we had obtained from 12 animals with different SLA-DQB1 genotypes. We expanded our typing to 76 selected animals with diverse DQB1 and DRB1 genotypes, 140 random animals from 7 pig breeds, and 3 wild boars. This resulted in the identification of 17 DQA alleles with 49 genotypes. Two new alleles were identified from wild boars. Combine with SLA-DQB1, and DRB1 typing results, we identified 34 SLA class II haplotypes including 25 that were previously unreported.

Abstract
A measurement of the inclusive WW+WZ diboson production cross section in proton-proton collisions is reported, based on events containing a leptonically decaying W boson and exactly two jets. The data sample, collected at [Formula: see text] with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb-1. The measured value of the sum of the inclusive WW and WZ cross sections is σ(pp→WW+WZ)=68.9±8.7 (stat.)±9.7 (syst.)±1.5 (lum.) pb, consistent with the standard model prediction of 65.6±2.2 pb. This is the first measurement of WW+WZ production in pp collisions using this signature. No evidence for anomalous triple gauge couplings is found and upper limits are set on their magnitudes.

Abstract
SUMMARY We evaluated trends in the incidences of typical and atypical hip fracture in relation to bisphosphonate use in Korea from 2006 to 2010, using nationwide data obtained from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA). INTRODUCTION Recently, atypical hip fractures in the subtrochanteric region have been reported among patients on bisphosphonate. However, the association between atypical hip fracture and bisphosphonate is controversial. We evaluated trends in the incidences of typical and atypical hip fracture in relation to bisphosphonate use in Korea from 2006 to 2010, using nationwide data obtained from the HIRA. METHODS All new visits or admissions to clinics or hospitals for a typical and atypical hip fractures were recorded nationwide by HIRA using the ICD-10 code classification. Typical and atypical hip fractures were defined as femoral neck/intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fracture, respectively. Bisphosphonate prescription data were also abstracted from the HIRA database. RESULTS The absolute number of typical and atypical hip fracture increased during the study period. Although age-adjusted incidence rates of typical hip fractures were stable in men and women, those of atypical hip fractures increased in women. Nationally, the annual numbers of prescriptions of bisphosphonate also increased during the study period. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study suggest a possible causal relationship between bisphosphonate use and the increased incidence of atypical hip fracture in Korea.

Measurement of the azimuthal anisotropy of neutral pions in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s](NN)] = 2.76 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2013; 110:042301. Abstract
First measurements of the azimuthal anisotropy of neutral pions produced in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s(NN)] = 2.76 TeV are presented. The amplitudes of the second Fourier component (v(2)) of the π(0) azimuthal distributions are extracted using an event-plane technique. The values of v(2) are studied as a function of the neutral pion transverse momentum (p(T)) for different classes of collision centrality in the kinematic range 1.6<p(T) <8.0 GeV/c, within the pseudorapidity interval |η|<0.8. The CMS measurements of v(2) (p(T)) are similar to previously reported π(0) azimuthal anisotropy results from sqrt[s(NN)] = 200 GeV Au-Au collisions at RHIC, despite a factor of ∼ 14 increase in the center-of-mass energy. In the momentum range 2.5<p(T)<5.0 GeV/c, the neutral pion anisotropies are found to be smaller than those observed by CMS for inclusive charged particles.

Abstract
Evidence is presented for the associated production of a single top quark and W boson in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The analyzed data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 fb(-1). The measurement is performed using events with two leptons and a jet originated from a b quark. A multivariate analysis based on kinematic properties is utilized to separate the tt background from the signal. The observed signal has a significance of 4.0σ and corresponds to a cross section of 16(-4)(+5) pb, in agreement with the standard model expectation of 15.6±0.4(-1.2)(+1.0) pb.

Anaerobic co-digestion of sewage sludge and primary clarifier skimmings for increased biogas production. WATER SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY : A JOURNAL OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION ON WATER POLLUTION RESEARCH 2013; 67:174-179. [PMID: 23128636 DOI: 10.2166/wst.2012.550] [Citation(s) in RCA: 3] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.3] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 06/01/2023]
Abstract
The objective of the study was to identify the impact of co-digesting clarifier skimmings on the overall methane generation from the treatment plant and additional energy value of the increased methane production. Biogas production from co-digesting clarifier skimmings and sewage sludge in pilot-scale fed-batch mesophilic anaerobic digesters has been evaluated. The digester was fed with increasing quantities of clarifier skimmings loads: 1.5, 2.6, 3.5 and 7.0 g COD equivalent/(L·d) (COD: chemical oxygen demand). Average volatile solids reduction of 65% was achieved in the scum-fed digester, compared with 51% in the control digester. Average 69% COD removal was achieved at highest scum loading (7 g COD eq/(L·d)) with approximate methane yield of 250 L CH(4)/kg COD fed (4 ft(3)/lb COD fed). The results show that scum as co-substrate in anaerobic digestion systems improves biogas yields while a 29% increase in specific CH(4) yield could be achieved when scum load is 7 g COD eq/(L·d). Based on the pilot-scale study results and full-scale data from South East Water Pollution Control Plant and Northeast Water Pollution Control Plant the expected annual energy recovery would be approximately 1.7 billion BTUs or nearly 0.5 million kWh.
