Abstract
Urban storm water run off can reduce the quality of receiving waters due to high sediment load and associated sediment-bound contaminants. Consequently, urban water management systems, such as detention ponds, that both modify water quantity through storage and improve water quality through sediment retention are frequently-used best management practices. To manage such systems effectively and to improve their efficiency, there is a need to understand the dynamics (transport and settling) of sediment, and in particular the fine sediment fraction (<63 μm) and its associated contaminants within urban storm water management systems. This can be difficult to achieve, as modelling the transport behaviour of fine-grained and cohesive sediment is problematic and field-based measurements can be costly, time-consuming and unrepresentative. The aim of this study was to test the application of a novel cohesive sediment tracer and to determine fine sediment transport dynamics within a storm water detention pond. The cohesive sediment tracer used was a holmium labelled montmorillonite clay which flocculated and had similar size and settling velocity to the natural pond sediment it was intended to mimic. The tracer demonstrated that fine sediment was deposited across the entire pond, with the presence of reed beds and water depth being important factors for maximising sediment retention. The results of the sediment tracer experiment were in good agreement with those of a mathematical sediment transport model. Here, the deposited sediment tracer was sampled by collecting and analysing surface pond sediments for holmium. However, analysis and sampling of the three dimensional suspended tracer 'cloud' may provide more accurate information regarding internal pond sediment dynamics.

Abstract
Pairing symmetry is a fundamental property that characterizes a superconductor. For the iron-based high-temperature superconductors, an s(±)-wave pairing symmetry has received increasing experimental and theoretical support. More specifically, the superconducting order parameter is an isotropic s-wave type around a particular Fermi surface, but it has opposite signs between the hole Fermi surfaces at the zone centre and the electron Fermi surfaces at the zone corners. Here we report the low-energy electronic structure of the newly discovered superconductors, A(x)Fe(2)Se(2) (A=K,Cs) with a superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of about 30 K. We found A(x)Fe(2)Se(2) (A=K,Cs) is the most heavily electron-doped among all iron-based superconductors. Large electron Fermi surfaces are observed around the zone corners, with an almost isotropic superconducting gap of ~10.3 meV, whereas there is no hole Fermi surface near the zone centre, which demonstrates that interband scattering or Fermi surface nesting is not a necessary ingredient for the unconventional superconductivity in iron-based superconductors. Thus, the sign change in the s(±) pairing symmetry driven by the interband scattering as suggested in many weak coupling theories becomes conceptually irrelevant in describing the superconducting state here. A more conventional s-wave pairing is probably a better description.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene has been implicated in susceptibility to asthma, but a large number of studies have reported inconclusive results. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between the I/D polymorphism of ACE gene and asthma risk by meta-analysis. METHODS We searched Medline (Ovid), Pubmed, CNKI, Wanfang, and Weipu database, covering all papers until March 12, 2010. Statistical analysis was performed by using the software revman 4.2 (The Cochrane Collaboration, http://www.cochrane.org) and stata 10.0 (StataCorp, College Station, TX, USA, http://www.stata.com). RESULTS A total of 1946 cases and 2152 controls in 18 case-control studies were included in this meta-analysis. The results indicated that the DD homozygote carriers had a 59% increased risk of asthma, when compared with the homozygotes II and heterozygote DI [odds ratio (OR)=1.59, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.16-2.18]. In the subgroup analysis by ethnicity, significant elevated risks were associated with DD homozygote carriers in Asians (OR=2.02 and 95% CI: 1.29-3.16 for DD vs DI+II) but not in Caucasians (OR=1.14 and 95% CI: 0.76-1.72 for DD vs DI+II). In the subgroup analysis by age, significant elevated risks were associated with DD homozygote carriers in children (OR=2.44 and 95% CI: 1.36-4.38 for DD vs II+DI) but not in adults (OR=1.54 and 95% CI: 0.94-2.51 for DD vs II+DI). CONCLUSIONS This meta-analysis suggested that the I/D polymorphism of ACE gene would be a risk factor of asthma. To further evaluate gene-to-gene and gene-to-environment interactions between polymorphisms of ACE gene and asthma risk, more studies with large groups of patients are required.

Abstract
Milk composition and body measurement traits, influenced by genes and environmental factors, play important roles in value assessments of efficiency and productivity in dairy goats. Lactoferrin (LF), involved in the efficient expression of protein in milk, is also an anabolic factor in skeletal tissue and a potent osteoblast survival factor. Therefore, it is an important candidate gene for milk composition and body measurement trait selection in marker-assisted selection. We employed PCR-SSCP and DNA sequencing to screen the genetic variations of the LF gene in 549 Chinese dairy goats. A novel single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (G198A in exon II) of the LF gene was detected. The frequencies of the AA genotype were 0.0285 and 0.0261 in GZ and SN populations, respectively. Both populations were found to have low levels of polymorphism and were in Hardy-Weinberg disequilibrium (P < 0.05). We found significant (P < 0.05) associations of the SNP marker with milk protein and acidity in the total population; animals with the AA genotype had higher mean values for milk protein than those with the GA genotype. Animals with genotype AA had higher mean values for withers height than those with genotype GG (P < 0.05). We concluded that this SNP of the LF gene has potential as a genetic marker for milk composition and body traits in dairy goat breeding.

Abstract
It has been reported that the miR-106b∼25 cluster, a paralog of the miR-17∼92 cluster, possesses oncogenic activities. However, the precise role of each microRNA (miRNA) in the miR-106b∼25 cluster is not yet known. In this study, we examined the function of miR-93, one of the microRNAs within the miR-106b∼25 cluster, in angiogenesis and tumor formation. We found that miR-93 enhanced cell survival, promoted sphere formation and augmented tumor growth. Most strikingly, when miR-93-overexpressing U87 cells were co-cultured with endothelial cells, they supported endothelial cell spreading, growth, migration and tube formation. In vivo studies revealed that miR-93-expressing cells induced blood vessel formation, allowing blood vessels to extend to tumor tissues in high densities. Angiogenesis promoted by miR-93 in return facilitated cell survival, resulting in enhanced tumor growth. We further showed that integrin-β8 is a target of miR-93. Higher levels of integrin-β8 are associated with cell death in tumor mass and in human glioblastoma. Silencing of integrin-β8 expression using small interfering RNA promoted cell proliferation, whereas ectopic expression of integrin-β8 decreased cell growth. These findings showed that miR-93 promotes tumor growth and angiogenesis by suppressing, at least in part, integrin-β8 expression. Our results suggest that inhibition of miR-93 function may be a feasible approach to suppress angiogenesis and tumor growth.

Abstract
Disseminated adenoviral infection is a serious problem, especially in an immunocompromised host. The disease carries a mortality rate reaching as high as 80%. It is seen most frequently in bone marrow transplant recipients, where it causes pneumonia and disseminated disease. In solid organ transplant recipients it causes graft infection. We report the case of a renal transplant recipient with disseminated adenoviral infection and acute kidney failure requiring dialysis. Reduction of immunosuppression and 1 dose of cidofovir were associated with resolution of viremia and viruria and return of kidney function to near baseline.

Abstract
The electronic structure of NaFeAs is studied with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy on high quality single crystals. Large portions of the band structure start to shift around the structural transition temperature and smoothly evolve as the temperature lowers through the spin density wave transition. Moreover, band folding due to magnetic order emerges slightly above the structural transition. Our observation provides direct evidence that the structural and magnetic transitions share the same origin and could both be driven by the electronic structure reconstruction in Fe-based superconductors instead of Fermi surface nesting. We did not observe any sign of a gap in the superconducting state, which is likely related to weakened superconductivity in the presence of the spin density wave.

Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the relationship between serum p53, tissue p53 and tissue permeability glycoprotein (P-gp) levels in gastric cancer. Serum levels of p53 were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and tissue p53 and P-gp levels were analysed by immunohistochemistry. In total, 63.0% of gastric cancer tissue samples tested positive for P-gp and 58.7% of samples tested positive for p53. Tissue P-gp immunoreactivity was significantly correlated with tissue p53 immunoreactivity, and both tissue p53 and P-gp immunoreactivity were significantly correlated to the degree of cancer cell differentiation. The percentage of gastric cancer patients with serum positive for p53 was 36.2%, which was significantly higher than the rate in non-cancerous gastric disease patients. Serum p53 was significantly correlated to tissue p53 and tissue P-gp, inferring that the presence of p53 in the serum could indicate the status of tissue p53 and P-gp. This could, therefore, be useful for screening for the most appropriate (lowest toxicity and highest effectiveness) drugs to use ahead of (neo)-adjuvant chemotherapy.

Abstract
Iron tetrapolyvanadate (Fe2V4O13) was prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) measurement and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that Fe2V4O13 could effectively catalyse H2O2 to generate active OH; therefore, Fe2V4O13 was employed as a new two-metal heterogeneous Fenton-like catalyst. The decomposition of H2O2 and the degradation of Acid Orange II catalysed by Fe2V4O13 could be well described with a simple pseudo-first-order rate equation between the reaction temperatures of 15 degrees C and 30 degreesC. It was inferred from the reaction activation energy data that the generation of the hydroxyl radical was a control step in a series of reactions for the oxidation of Acid Orange II in the presence of H2O2 and Fe2V4O13. The catalytic activity of Fe2V4O13 towards degradation of Acid Orange II was not only much higher than that of alpha-Fe2O3, V2O5 and FeVO4 but also than that of their mixtures with an identical ratio of Fe and V, such as 2FeVO4 + V2O5 and Fe2O3 + 2V2O5. The high catalytic activity possibly involved a special two-way Fenton-like mechanism and the synergistic activation of Fe(III) and V(V) in Fe2V4O13 towards H2O2.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Swallowing dysfunction is common and disabling after acute stroke; however, the mechanism of dysphagia or recovery of swallowing from dysphagia remains uncertain. The purpose of this study was to explore cerebral activation of swallowing in dysphagia using functional MRI (fMRI) to compare the functional anatomy of swallowing in unilateral hemispheric stroke patients and healthy adults. METHODS In total, five left hemispheric stroke patients with dysphagia, five right hemispheric stroke patients with dysphagia and 10 healthy controls were examined with event related fMRI while laryngeal swallow related movements were recorded. Data were processed using the general linear model. RESULTS A multifocal cerebral representation of swallowing was identified predominantly in the left hemisphere, in a bilateral and asymmetrical manner. Cerebral activation during swallowing tasks was localised to the precentral, postcentral and anterior cingulate gyri, insula and thalamus in all groups. Activation of volitional swallowing in dysphagic unilateral hemispheric stroke patients might require reorganisation of the dominant hemispheric motor cortex, or a compensatory shift in activation to unaffected areas of the hemisphere. CONCLUSIONS The results indicate that unilateral stroke of either cerebral hemisphere can produce dysphagia. Effective recovery is associated with cerebral activation related to cortical swallowing representation in the compensating or recruited areas of the intact hemisphere. Functional MRI is a useful method for exploring the spatial localisation of changes in neuronal activity during tasks that may be related to recovery. Therefore, the subsequent information gleaned from changes in neural plasticity could be useful for assessing the prognosis of dysphagic stroke.

Abstract
Located at the important tumor suppressor locus, 3p22, PLCD1 encodes an enzyme that mediates regulatory signaling of energy metabolism, calcium homeostasis and intracellular movements. We identified PLCD1 as a downregulated gene in aerodigestive carcinomas through expression profiling and epigenetic characterization. We found that PLCD1 was expressed in all normal adult tissues but low or silenced in 84% (16/19) gastric cancer cell lines, well correlated with its CpG island (CGI) methylation status. Methylation was further detected in 62% (61/98) gastric primary tumors, but none of normal gastric mucosa tissues. PLCD1 methylation was significantly correlated with tumor high stage. Detailed methylation analysis of 37 CpG sites at the PLCD1 CGI by bisulfite genomic sequencing confirmed its methylation. PLCD1 silencing could be reversed by pharmacological demethylation with 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine, indicating a direct epigenetic silencing. Ectopic expression of PLCD1 in silenced gastric tumor cells dramatically inhibited their clonogenicity and migration, possibly through downregulating MMP7 expression and hampering the reorganization of cytoskeleton through cofilin inactivation by phosphorylation. Thus, epigenetic inactivation of PLCD1 is common and tumor-specific in gastric cancer, and PLCD1 acts as a functional tumor suppressor involved in gastric carcinogenesis.

Abstract
The nature of the spin-density wave (SDW) and its relation with superconductivity are crucial issues in the newly discovered iron-pnictide superconductors. Particularly, it is unclear whether the superconducting phase and SDW are truly exclusive from each other. We here report splittings of the band structures in Sr1-xKxFe2As2 (x=0, 0.1, 0.18), and their unusual doping dependence. Our data on single crystalline samples prove that the SDW and superconductivity could coexist in iron pnictides.

Abstract
The magnetic properties in the parent compounds are often intimately related to the microscopic mechanism of superconductivity. Here we report the first direct measurements on the electronic structure of a parent compound of the newly discovered iron-based superconductor, BaFe2As2, which provides a foundation for further studies. We show that the energy of the spin density wave in BaFe2As2 is mainly lowered through exotic exchange splitting of the band structure.

Abstract
AIM The human Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) is a highly polymorphic genomic region occupying approximately 4 Mb on chromosome 6p21.3. The relationship between human MHC and type 1 diabetes (T1D) has been previously investigated. To fine map the disease locus in this region, we carried out both linkage and association analyses using the Type 1 Diabetes Genetics Consortium data. METHODS Two-point linkage analysis was performed with a set of microsatellite markers assuming a fully recessive inheritance model, where we found clustering of high LOD (logarithm of the odds) scores across the MHC region. To narrow down the linkage region, we performed association analyses using both microsatellite and two sets of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers. We focused on the nuclear families containing a discordant sib-pair (an affected and unaffected sib). For the microsatellite markers, we computed the average repeat length for each individual and carried out a paired t-test. RESULTS Microsatellite marker D6S2884 showed the highest association in a sharp peak with a p value of 3.15E-24. We confirmed this finding when using also SNP markers performing a McNemar's test for association. The SNPs that showed the most significant evidence of association mapped to almost the same location as the microsatellite markers. CONCLUSIONS Besides the main goal of fine mapping of T1D genes, our results also illustrated the differences and the advantage of using both linkage and association analyses. After the identification of a wide peak with linkage analysis, we were able to dramatically narrow down the region by performing association analysis.

Abstract
NbSe2 is a prototypical charge-density-wave (CDW) material, whose mechanism remains mysterious so far. With angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we recovered the long-lost nesting condition over a large broken-honeycomb region in the Brillouin zone, which consists of six saddle band point regions with high density of states (DOS), and large regions away from Fermi surfaces with negligible DOS at the Fermi energy. We show that the major contributions to the CDW formation come from these barely occupied states rather than the saddle band points. Our findings not only resolve a long-standing puzzle, but also overthrow the conventional wisdom that CDW is dominated by regions with high DOS.

Abstract
Particle number, particle mass, and CO2 concentrations were measured on the curb of a busy urban busway used entirely by a mix of diesel and CNG operated buses. With the passage of each bus, the ratio of particle number concentration and particle mass concentration to CO2 concentration in the diluted exhaust plume were used as measures of the particle number and mass emission factors, respectively. With all buses accelerating pastthe monitoring point, the results showed that the median particle mass emission from CNG buses was less than 9% of that from diesel buses. However, the median particle number emission from CNG buses was 6 times higher than the diesel buses, and the particles from the CNG buses were mainly in the nanoparticle size range. Using a thermodenuder to remove the volatile material from the sampled emissions showed that the majority of particles from the CNG buses, but not from the diesel buses, were volatile. Approximately, 82% of the particles from the CNG buses and 38% from the diesel buses were removed by heating the emissions to 300 degrees C.

Abstract
A cDNA clone of a single-copy gene designated SbPRP was isolated and characterized from 2-week-old soybean seedlings. It putatively encodes a bimodular protein similar to developmentally regulated proteins in other plant species. The deduced amino acid sequence consists of 126 amino acids with a distinct proline-rich domain (17 amino acids) and a long hydrophobically cysteine-rich domain (84 amino acids), plus a signal peptide of 25 amino acids in N terminal. SbPRP mRNA transcripts accumulated in an organ specific manner. It can be detected in leaves and epicotyls of soybean seedlings, whereas virtually expression signal of SbPRP was not detected in cotyledons, hypocotyls and roots. Further Northern hybridization suggested that SbPRP steady-state mRNA level accumulated differentially not only in response to salicylic acid, but to the inoculation of soybean mosaic virus Sa strain. Also it was responsive to drought treatment and salt (NaCl) stress. Therefore it is likely that SbPRP functions as a defense gene in soybean.

Abstract
We report the detailed phase diagram and anomalous transport properties of Fe-based high-T_{c} superconductors SmFeAsO1-xFx. It is found that superconductivity emerges at x approximately 0.07, and optimal doping takes place in the x approximately 0.20 sample with the highest T_{c} approximately 54 K. T_{c} increases monotonically with doping; the anomaly in resistivity from structural phase or spin-density-wave order is rapidly suppressed, suggesting a quantum critical point around x approximately 0.14. As manifestations, a linear temperature dependence of the resistivity shows up at high temperatures in the x<0.14 regime but at low temperatures just above T_{c} in the x>0.14 regime; a drop in carrier density evidenced by a pronounced rise in the Hall coefficient is observed below the temperature of the anomaly peak in resistivity. A scaling behavior is observed between the Hall angle and temperature: cottheta_{H} proportional, variantT;{1.5} for all samples with different x in SmFeAsO1-xFx system.

Abstract
Chlamydophila abortus is the causative agent of abortion in pigs and pregnant women. Seroconversion rates were arranged from 11% to 80% in piglets and sows in China. These very high rates illustrate the scale of the problem in China and highlight the urgent need for the development of a C. abortus vaccine. An efficacious anti-chlamydial vaccine should induce not only strong mucosal and systemic T-helper type 1 (Th1) immune response but also give a humoral response that enhances Th1 activation following infection. In order to evaluate an active immune response of a combination of the major outer membrane protein (MOMP) DNA- and protein-based vaccines, 54 BALB/c mice were randomly assigned to six groups and inoculated intramuscularly with: (i) 100 microg pcDNA::MOMP, (ii) 10 microg r-MOMP, (iii) primed with 100 microg pcDNA::MOMP and boosted with 10 microg r-MOMP, (iv) primed-boosted with a combination of pcDNA::MOMP and r-MOMP simultaneously, (v) live-attenuated 1B vaccine, (vi) 100 microg pcDNA3.1 vector. All animals were vaccinated two times at 14 days intervals. Results showed that mice given DNA and r-MOMP induced higher antibody levels, higher T cells proliferation and an elevated level of chlamydial clearance in spleen, which was equivalent to the clearance of 1B vaccine. Mice administrated the DNA-primed/MOMP-boosted approach elicited moderate antibody levels, less T-lymphocyte proliferation and lower chlamydial clearance as compared with 1B vaccine. Co-immunization with DNA- and r-MOMP vaccine may provide novel ways for active immunization strategy against swine C. abortus.

Abstract
P2X receptors are ATP-gated cationic channels composed of seven known subunits (P2X1-7) which are involved in different functions in neural tissue. The present study investigates the P2X5 receptor expression pattern in the mouse CNS using immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization histochemistry. The specificity of the immunostaining has been verified by pre-absorption, Western blot and in situ hybridization methods. Heavy P2X5 receptor immunostaining was observed in the mitral cells of the olfactory bulb; cerebral cortex; globus pallidum, anterior cortical amygdaloid nucleus, amygdalohippocampal area of subcortical telencephalon; anterior nuclei, anteroventral nucleus, ventrolateral nucleus of thalamus; supraoptic nucleus, ventromedial nucleus, arcuate nucleus of hypothalamus; substantia nigra of midbrain; pontine nuclei, mesencephalic trigeminal nucleus, motor trigeminal nucleus, ambiguous nucleus, inferior olive, hypoglossal nucleus, dorsal motor vagus nucleus, area postrema of hindbrain; Purkinje cells of cerebellum; and spinal cord. The identification of extensive P2X5 receptor immunoreactivity and mRNA distribution within the CNS of the mouse demonstrated here is consistent with a role for extracellular ATP acting as a fast neurotransmitter.

Abstract
Sudden death syndrome (SDS) is one of the most serious diseases of fast-growing broilers. The incidence of SDS may result from a decrease in ventricular function. The purpose of this study was to explore the mechanism of sexual difference in the sensitivity of broilers to SDS by measuring their ventricular vulnerability, serum enzyme activities, and serum electrolyte levels. Results were as follows. 1) Ventricular fibrillation thresholds induced by injection of KCl and by electrical stimulus of male broilers were both significantly lower than those of female broilers (P < 0.05), suggesting that the ventricular vulnerability of male broilers was higher than that of female broilers. 2) Serum lactate dehydrogenase and creatine kinase activities of male broilers were significantly higher than those of female broilers (P < 0.01), but there was not a significant difference in serum aspartate aminotransferase activity between male and female broilers. 3) No significant difference was observed in serum electrolyte levels of potassium, sodium, and chloride between males and females. From these results, we concluded that there is a significant difference between males and females in their ventricular vulnerability and serum enzyme activities, which may result in a higher sensitivity of male broilers to injury of the myocardium by stress and may further result in a sexual difference in sensitivity to SDS.

Abstract
In this work, the glass transition of water was studied with density functional theory. The transition temperature was determined by measuring the heat capacity Cp of low-density amorphous water during rapid heating. This technique ensures that all measurements were implemented without crystallization occurring, which is difficult to be achieved experimentally. The results showed that the glass transition occurs at 171 K, which is much higher than the reported value of 136 K. In addition, the triply hydrogen-bonded water molecules were found when T > 180 K, demonstrating the existence of the liquid structure at the higher temperature range.

Abstract
Pollutant concentrations measured in the exhaust plume of a vehicle may be related to the pollutant emission factor using the CO2 concentration as a measure of the dilution factor. We have used this method for the rapid identification of high particle number (PN) emitting on-road vehicles. The method was validated for PN using a medium-duty vehicle and successfully applied to measurements of PN emissions from a large fleet of on-road diesel buses. The ratio of PN concentration to CO2 concentration, Z, in the exhaust plume was estimated for individual buses. On the average, a bus emitted about 1.5 x 10(9) particles per mg of CO2 emitted. A histogram of the number of buses as a function of Z showed, for the first time, that the PN emissions from diesel buses followed a gamma distribution, with most of the values within a narrow range and a few buses exhibiting relatively large values. It was estimated that roughly 10% and 50% of the PN emissions came from just 2% and 25% of the buses, respectively. A regression analysis showed that there was a positive correlation between Z and age of buses, with the slope of the best line being significantly different from zero. The mean Z value for the pre-Euro buses was significantly greater than each of the values for the Euro I and II buses.

Abstract
Small field sizes are increasingly becoming important in radiotherapy particularly since the introduction of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) techniques. It is normally a challenging task to reliably measure the delivered dose and to determine its distribution in a medium for such small fields using conventional-type dosimeters such as gas ionisation chambers. Recently, attempts have been made to use films, but they are not tissue equivalent, they measure the dose only in two dimensions and they are not as responsive to radiations. In the present work, polyacrylamide gel (PAG) dosimeters are employed to measure the dose and its distribution in three dimensions for very small field sizes, such as those typically used in stereotactic radiosurgery. Field sizes of 6 x 6 and 18 x 18 mm in width are investigated. The results show an agreement with radiochromic film and ionisation diode measurements, with some variation in measured doses near the edge of the field, where the gel data decreases more rapidly than the other methods.

Abstract
Tetrahydrobiopterin (BH(4)) deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by enzyme defects in the biosynthesis or recycling of BH(4). Patients with BH(4) deficiency present with severe neurological signs and symptoms and require a different treatment from classical phenylketonuria. During the last 12 years, 31 cases of BH(4) deficiency were identified in our department. They were all classified as 6-pyruvoyl-tetrahydropterin synthase (PTPS) deficiency. They were diagnosed at the ages of 2.5-48 months and treated with BH(4), L-dopa and 5-hydroxytryptophan immediately after diagnosis. The average development quotients (DQ) at diagnosis and after treatment for more than 3 years were 53+/- 16, and 78+/- 15, respectively. A significant negative correlation was observed between the level of the DQ and the age at which treatment was commenced (r = -0.751, p = 0.002). Developmental profiles were uneven. Language, adaptability and at later age mathematics were particularly weak areas. Only two patients achieved a good performance in mathematics. Eleven patients who were treated with drugs from ages of 2.9-48 months had neuroradiological scanning. Computed tomography disclosed calcification in lentiform nuclei in one patient and magnetic resonance imaging disclosed delayed myelination and abnormal high intensity signal in cerebral white matter in all of them. Even though most of abnormalities were reversible, small patchy or spotted areas were still present on these regions after treatment for 10-46 months. In summary, our study supports the substantial efficacy of the current therapeutic approach in PTPS deficiency of normalizing amine neurotransmitters with three drugs as early as possible. For the first time, calcifications could be detected in patients with PTPS deficiency. Abnormalities in white matter on magnetic resonance imaging were not related to clinical manifestations and most were reversible.

Abstract
The work presented was conducted within the scope of a larger study investigating impacts of the Stuart Oil Shale project, a facility operating to the north of the industrial city of Gladstone, Australia. The aims of the investigations were threefold: (a) the identification of the plant signatures in terms of particle size distributions in the submicrometer range (13-830 nm) through stack measurements, (b) exploring the applicability of these signatures in tracing the source contributions at locations of interest, at a distance from the plant, and (c) assessing the contribution of the plant to the total particle number concentration at locations of interest. The stack measurements conducted for three different conditions of plant operation showed that the particle size distributions were bimodal with average modal count median diameters (CMDs) of 24 (SD 4) and 52 (SD 9) nm. The average of all the particle size distributions recorded within the plant sector at a site located 4.5 km from the plant, over the sampling period when the plant was operating, also showed a bimodal distribution. The modal CMDs in this case were 27 and 50 nm, similar to those at the stack. This bimodal size distribution is distinct from the size distribution of the most common ambient anthropogenic emission source, which is vehicle emissions, and can be considered as a signature of this source. The average contribution of the plant (for plant sector winds) was estimated to be (10.0 +/- 3.8) x 10(2) particles cm(-3) and constituted approximately a 50% increase overthe local particle ambient concentration for plant sector winds. This increase in particle number concentration compared to the local background concentration, while high compared to the clean environment concentration, is not significant when compared to concentrations generally encountered in the urban environment of Brisbane.

Abstract
Electronic structures of hexagonal ice (ice Ih), high-density amorphous ice (HDA), and very high-density amorphous ice (VHDA) are investigated using ab initio density functional theory (DFT) at 77 K under a pressure of 0.1 MPa, focusing on band structure, density of states (DOS), partial density of states (PDOS), and electron density. It is found that the integration intensity of the O-2p bonding band in HDA is 1.53 eV wider than that in the VHDA. Because more 2p electrons in HDA participate the 2p-1s hybridization of O-H. The classical molecular dynamics (MD) method has further been carried out to analyze the hydrogen bond network of HDA and VHDA with larger numbers of water molecules under the same temperature, pressure, and boundary conditions used as those during the DFT calculation. MD results show that there exists some water molecules with five hydrogen bonds in both HDA (4.1 +/- 0.1%) and VHDA (2.8 +/- 0.1%), as compared with the LDA, being consistent with the integration intensity results of PDOS. This result can be used to interpret the physical nature of the similar transition temperature of HDA and VHDA to LDA with different heating rates.

Abstract
One model for dendritic protein sorting in neurons is based on parallels with basolateral targeting in Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) epithelial cells. The goal of this study was to further evaluate this model by analyzing the neuronal targeting of several proteins that contain well-defined basolateral sorting motifs. When we expressed FcRgammaII-B2 and CD44, two basolateral markers whose sorting depends on dihydrophobic motifs, they were unpolarized in hippocampal neurons. We also assessed the localization of the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR), a basolateral protein whose sorting signal contains a proline-rich motif and two dihydrophobic motifs. EGFR was restricted to the dendrites in neurons and relied on the same sorting signal for proper targeting. These results show that the dendritic sorting machinery in neurons does not recognize dihydrophobic-based basolateral sorting signals. In contrast, the sorting signal present in EGFR directs both basolateral and dendritic targeting and defines a novel dendritic targeting motif.

Abstract
Treatment of urban stormwater by clarification, with flocculant addition, was studied in Toronto, Canada using a pilot-scale clarifier with removable lamellar plates. Almost 90 stormwater runoff events were characterised at the study site and found fairly polluted. The previous research phase indicated good treatability of this stormwater by lamellar clarification with flocculant addition (total suspended solids, TSS, removal of 84%, at a surface load of 15 m/h), but there were concerns about cleaning plates after storm events. With the aid of numerical modelling, hydraulic improvements to the clarifier inlet zone were retrofitted in 2004 and permitted the removal of the lamellar pack without a loss in treatment efficiency. In the modified clarifier, a cationic polymeric flocculant dosage of 4 mg/L with conventional clarification provided a TSS removal of 77%, at surface loads up to 43 m/h. The use of the polymer did not increase the acute toxicity of the treated effluent. The clarifier sludge was severely polluted by several heavy metals and would require special disposal. The treatment process tested could be well applied in projects requiring intensive stormwater treatment at compact sites.

Abstract
We have constructed de novo a high-resolution genetic map that includes the largest set, to our knowledge, of polymorphic markers (N=14,759) for which genotype data are publicly available; that combines genotype data from both the Centre d'Etude du Polymorphisme Humain (CEPH) and deCODE pedigrees; that incorporates single-nucleotide polymorphisms; and that also incorporates sequence-based positional information. The position of all markers on our map is corroborated by both genomic sequence and recombination-based data. This specific combination of features maximizes marker inclusion, coverage, and resolution, making this map uniquely suitable as a comprehensive resource for determining genetic map information (order and distances) for any large set of polymorphic markers.
