Abstract
Objective: To understand the epidemiological and etiological characteristics of enterovirus (EV)-associated diseases among children in Beijing from 2010 to 2016. Methods: This was a repeated cross-sectional study. The throat swabs were collected from children with probable EV-associated diseases at the Children' s Hospital Affiliated to Capital Institute of Pediatrics from 2010 to 2016. The samples were sent for pan-EV, enterovirus 71 (EV-A71) and coxsackievirus A16 (CV-A16) detection by real-time fluorescence reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) . The viral types of non-EV-A71 and non-CV-A16 EV-positive samples were identified using modified RT-PCR and sequencing with CV-A6, EV-A/B group and 5 'UTR universal primers. The constituent ratios of the prevalence of different EV types in different age and gender groups were compared. Results: Of the 2 703 throat swabs, 1 992 (73.7%) samples were positive for EV, including EV-A71 (19.1%, 516/2 703), CV-A16 (24.3%, 658/2 703), CV-A6 (22.2%, 600/2 703), CV-A10 (4.5%, 122/2 703) and other types of EV (3.5%, 95/2 703). There was 1 case of EV-A71 and CV-A16 co-infection. The positive detection rate of EV-A group (excluding EV-A71, CV-A16, CV-A6 and CV-A10) increased from 11.3% (7/62) to 95.2% (59/62) after using the modified VP1-specific primers and PCR amplification conditions. During the period between 2010 and 2012, CV-A16 and EV-A71 predominated in EV-positive samples. However, CV-A6 accounted for 60.7% (68/112) in 2013, much higher than CV-A16 (23.2%, 26/112) and EV-A71 (12.5%, 14/112). In 2014, EVs were mainly of CV-A16 and EV-A71, but CV-A6 was the predominant type in 2015 (68.2%, 232/340) and in 2016 (38.6%, 151/391). The epidemic season of EVs was mostly from April to August, but CV-A6 showed a small epidemic peak from October to November. The male-to-female ratio of EV-positive patients was 1.50∶1, and EV-associated diseases mostly occurred in children under 5 years of age. Younger children were more susceptible to CV-A6 than to EV-A71 and CV-A16. Conclusions: From 2010 to 2016, there was a significant change in the spectrum of EVs in children with EV-associated diseases in Beijing. Since 2013, non-EV-A71 and non-CV-A16 increased, and CV-A6 gradually became one of the major pathogens of EV-associated diseases. The modified PCR primers and amplification conditions can effectively improve the reliability of test results.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to construct a prediction model for cervical squamous cell carcinoma and evaluate its accuracy in diagnosing cervical squamous cell carcinoma. PATIENTS AND METHODS Fifty patients with initially histopathologically confirmed cervical squamous cell carcinoma and 150 patients with initially histopathologically confirmed cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) were enrolled. The high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection, human telomerase mRNA component (hTERC) gene and cell-myc (c-myc) gene amplification, and minichromosome maintenance protein 5 (MCM5) protein expression were detected. The indicators related to cervical cancer were screened. The regression model was established to predict cervical squamous cell carcinoma with backward logistic stepwise regression method, and the accuracy of the model was evaluated. RESULTS Histograms for HR-HPV infection and viral load, hTERC and c-myc gene amplification, and MCM5 protein expression were constructed. There was a linear relationship between hTERC (X1), HR-HPV viral load (X2), MCM5 (X5) and the regression equation. Also, hTERC (X1), HR-HPV viral load (X2) and MCM5 (X5) were correlated with cervical squamous cell carcinoma. The regression model Logit (p) = -66.283 + 0.042 X1 + 0.061 X2 + 0.052 X5 was established. The model-fitting effect and prediction accuracy were evaluated, HL test p = 1 (p > 0.05). The model fitting effect was good, Cox-Sn ell R2 was 0.643 and Nagelkerke R2 was 0.958. The high accuracy of the model was 98.5%. CONCLUSIONS The fitting-effect of the regression model established by hTERC gene expression, HR-HPV viral load and MCM5 protein was good. The prediction accuracy of the model for cervical squamous cell carcinoma was high. The combined test of hTERC gene amplification, HR-HPV viral load and MCM5 protein could be used to predict and evaluate cervical squamous cell carcinoma.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the thickness of cranial bone in different parts of children skull during stereotactic electroencephalogram (SEEG) and its effect on electrode fixation. Methods: From October 2016 to March 2017, 13 children with SEEG by robot of surgery assistant (ROSA) were selected. The basic case information and electrode design scheme were collected. The skull thickness of each electrode channel was measured on post-operation CT, and the loosening of the fixed screws were recorded. The thickness of skull in frontal bone, temporal bone, parietal bone and occipital bone was statistically processed by SPSS statistical software. Results: There were total 113 electrodes in 13 children with epilepsy. There were 45 electrodes at frontal bone, of which the thickness was (5.7±2.8)mm. There were 34 electrodes at temporal bone, of which the thickness was (3.5±1.3)mm.There were 16 electrodes at parietal bone, of which the thickness was (6.0±2.5)mm.There were 18 electrodes at occipital bone, of which the thickness was (6.9±0.5)mm. Statistics showed that there was significant difference between differnt bone (F=15.340, P<0.01). There were 4 electrodes loosening, 1 at frontal bone and 3 at temporal bone, when the screws were removed. There was no adverse event related to the implantation of electrodes. Conclusions: The children's skull thickness is thinner than adults. The screw loosening is exist in some cases, but it has no effect on SEEG recording. No SEEG related adverse events are found in this group. Therefore, ROSA guided SEEG is safe and reliable in children with epilepsy.

Abstract
We report measurements of the nuclear modification factor R_{CP} for charged hadrons as well as identified π^{+(-)}, K^{+(-)}, and p(p[over ¯]) for Au+Au collision energies of sqrt[s_{NN}]=7.7, 11.5, 14.5, 19.6, 27, 39, and 62.4 GeV. We observe a clear high-p_{T} net suppression in central collisions at 62.4 GeV for charged hadrons which evolves smoothly to a large net enhancement at lower energies. This trend is driven by the evolution of the pion spectra but is also very similar for the kaon spectra. While the magnitude of the proton R_{CP} at high p_{T} does depend on the collision energy, neither the proton nor the antiproton R_{CP} at high p_{T} exhibit net suppression at any energy. A study of how the binary collision-scaled high-p_{T} yield evolves with centrality reveals a nonmonotonic shape that is consistent with the idea that jet quenching is increasing faster than the combined phenomena that lead to enhancement.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Lens regeneration is an optimal strategy for cataract patients to regain visual acuity with accommodation. We recently designed a novel, minimally invasive capsulorhexis surgical method for cataract removal that achieved functional lens regeneration in human infants. However, small anterior capsulorhexis requires advanced surgical expertise. To examine whether the quality of the regenerated lens can be maintained with enlarged anterior capsulorhexis, we investigated the shape and transparency of the regenerated lenses with different anterior capsulorhexis diameters (ACDs). METHODS Thirty-six 4-week-old New Zealand albino rabbits were randomly divided into three groups which underwent lens extraction with different ACDs (Group A: 2.0±0.5 mm, Group B: 4.0±0.5 mm, Group C: 6.0±0.5 mm). The anterior capsule opening area (ACOA) was quantified, and the morphology, weight, and histological characteristics of the regenerated lenses were examined. RESULTS Lens regeneration was observed in all three groups. In Group A, the regenerated lenses were relatively complete and transparent. In Groups B and C, the regenerated lenses were doughnut-shaped and opaque. The speed of lens regeneration in Group A was significantly faster than that in Groups B and C. The ACOA in Group A healed quickly and completely approximately 2 weeks after surgery. However, in Groups B and C, ACOA did not heal completely until 12 weeks after surgery. Histological examination showed that in Group A, most of the lens epithelial cells differentiated into well-organized lens fibers. However, in Groups B and C, the regenerated lens fibers were disorganized. CONCLUSION Capsulorhexis size is a critical determinant of integrity and transparency in lens regeneration.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical and genetic features of congenital myasthenia syndrome with episodic apnea (CMS-EA) caused by gene mutation of choline acetyltransferase (CHAT) Methods: The clinical data of 2 patients with congenital myasthenia syndrome were collected, and both were diagnosed from 2013 to 2015 in Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University. The clinical features and gene mutation characteristics were analyzed, and the patients were followed-up for therapeutic efficacy. Results: The two patients (case 1 and case 2) had the onset soon after birth and at 3 months after birth respectively. The two patients were admitted to the PICU due to dyspnea, cyanotic episodes that required intubation. The patients had repeated apnea and became ventilator dependent. Case 1 died due to refusal of any treatment. Case 2 had a tracheotomy, and gradually weaned from ventilator after using pyridostigmine. The hospitalization of case 2 lasted 162 days. Case 2 was followed up to the age of 3 years and 4 months, and was extubated and was maintained on oral neostigmine but still had fluctuating ptosis and minor physical and mental retardation. Both cases were negative for anti-AChR, anti-acetylcholinesterase, anti-MuSK antibodies. Neostigmine test was negative in case 1 and suspiciously positive in case 2. Low-frequency repetitive nerve stimulation testing of case 2 was negative. Cranial MRI scans of both cases showed brain atrophy-like change. Genetic testing showed compound heterozygous deletions (exon 4, 5, 6) and pathogenic variant c.914T>C (p.I305T) in CHAT in case 1, compound heterozygous variants c.1007T>C (p.I336T) and c.64C>T (p.Q22X) in CHAT in case 2. To our knowledge, compound heterozygous deletions (exon 4, 5, 6) and p.Q22X were novel, previously unreported variants. Conclusion: CMS-EA usually presents at birth or in the neonatal period with hypotonia, ptosis, dysphagia due to severe bulbar weakness, and respiratory insufficiency with cyanosis and apnea. Early treatment with pyridostigmine is helpful to the improvement of clinical symptoms and prognosis.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze and compare the epidemiological features of prevalent influenza A viruses in children in Beijing during 13 consecutive surveillance seasons from 2004 to 2017. Methods: This was a repeated cross section study. Throat swabs were collected weekly from children with influenza-like illnesses (ILI) who presented to the outpatient/emergency department of Children's Hospital, Capital Institute of Pediatrics during the period from September, 2004 to August, 2017. All of the specimens were inoculated into Madin Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells to isolate influenza viruses followed by identifying different types of influenza viruses with reference antisera by hemagglutination-inhibition assay. Descriptive statistics, t test and chi-square test were used to analyze the characteristics of prevalent influenza and characteristics of children infected with different types of influenza viruses. Results: Out of 10 984 specimens from ILI tested for influenza viruses, 1 052 (9.6%) were positive for influenza A viruses, and the positive rate was higher than that of influenza B viruses (6.7%, 741/10 984). Out of 1 052 cases positive for influenza A viruses, 70 cases of seasonal H1N1, 302 cases of 2 009 pandemic H1N1 and 680 cases of H3N2 were identified. The mean age of children with influenza A was (4.2±2.9) years, in whom 55.5% (584/1 052) were male. The mean age of children infected with seasonal H1N1, 2009 pandemic H1N1 and H3N2 was (4.6±2.1) , (4.3±3.1) and (4.2±2.9) years, respectively. There was no significant difference in the mean age among children infected with different subtypes of influenza A viruses (seasonal H1N1 vs. H3N2: t=1.139, P=0.255; 2009 pandemic H1N1 vs. H3N2: t=0.631, P=0.528; seasonal H1N1 vs. 2009 pandemic H1N1: t=0.720, P=0.472), while the mean age of children with influenza B was higher than that of the patients with influenza A ((5.2±2.7) vs. (4.2±2.9) years, t=7.120, P=0.000). The infection rate of influenza A in children with each age group was significantly different from that of influenza B. The infection rate of 2009 pandemic H1N1 and H3N2 increased with age, except for the patients of 0-6 months. Meanwhile, the infection rate of H3N2 in children aged 6 months to 12 years was higher than that of seasonal H1N1 and 2009 pandemic H1N1 (all P<0.05). The influenza A epidemic peaked earlier than that of influenza B when the positive rate of influenza A was higher than that of influenza B, and vice versa. After 2009, circulating strain was substituted by 2009 pandemic H1N1 virus with higher positive rate, while previous seasonal H1N1 had not been detected. The 2009 pandemic H1N1 circulated at high level in two consecutive seasons, which was followed by low level in next season. H3N2 epidemic peaked mostly in winter and spring each year, however, the epidemic wave of H3N2 with high virulence occurred so early in the summer in the year of 2009 H1N1 pandemic. Conclusions: The characteristics of prevalent influenza A viruses in children were different among 13 surveillance seasons from 2004 to 2017 in Beijing. The 2009 pandemic H1N1 and H3N2 became the predominant strains of influenza A virus.

Abstract
Background: Proteotoxic stress and transforming growth factor (TGFβ)-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) are two main contributors of intraocular fibrotic disorders, including proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). However, how these two factors communicate with each other is not well-characterized. Objective: The aim was to investigate the regulatory role of proteotoxic stress on TGFβ signaling in retinal pigment epithelium. Methods: ARPE-19 cells and primary human retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells were treated with proteasome inhibitor MG132 and TGFβ. Cell proliferation was analyzed by CCK-8 assay. The levels of mesenchymal markers α-SMA, fibronectin, and vimentin were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), western blot, and immunofluorescence. Cell migration was analyzed by scratch wound assay. The levels of p-Smad2, total Smad2, p-extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2), total ERK1/2, p-focal adhesion kinase (FAK), and total FAK were analyzed by western blot. The mRNA and protein levels of TGFβ receptor-II (TGFβR-II) were measured by real-time PCR and western blot, respectively. Results: MG132-induced proteotoxic stress resulted in reduced cell proliferation. MG132 significantly suppressed TGFβ-induced upregulation of α-SMA, fibronectin, and vimentin, as well as TGFβ-induced cell migration. The phosphorylation levels of Smad2, ERK1/2, and FAK were also suppressed by MG132. Additionally, the mRNA level and protein level of TGFβR-II decreased upon MG132 treatment. Conclusion: Proteotoxic stress suppressed TGFβ-induced EMT through downregulation of TGFβR-II and subsequent blockade of Smad2, ERK1/2, and FAK activation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Talaromyces marneffei is an opportunistic infection with high morbidity among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/AIDS patients in Southeast Asia and southern China. Its effects on mortality in HIV/AIDS patients has not been clearly elucidated. METHODS We conducted a retrospective cohort study of hospitalized HIV-infected individuals at the Fourth People's Hospital of Nanning, Guangxi, China during 2012-2015. Kaplan-Meier analyses were used to calculate the cumulative mortality. Cox proportional hazard models and 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM) were used to evaluate the effects of T. marneffei infection on mortality of HIV/AIDS patients. RESULTS In total, 6791 HIV/AIDS patients were included, 1093 of them (16.1%) with documented T. marneffei co-infection. The mortality of T. marneffei-infected patients (25.0 per 100 person-months, 95% CI 21.5-26.7) was the highest among all AIDS-associated complications and was significantly higher than that of T. marneffei-uninfected HIV/AIDS patients (13.8 per 100 person-months, 95% CI 12.5-15.1; adjusted hazard ratio (AHR) 1.80, 95% CI 1.48-2.16). The results using PSM were similar (AHR 4.52 95% CI 2.43-8.42). The mortality of T. marneffei-infected patients was also significantly higher than that of patients without any complications. When stratified by demographic characteristics, T. marneffei infection has higher mortality risk in all stratifications. Co-infection with T. marneffei carries a higher mortality risk in patients at any CD4+ T-cell count. CONCLUSIONS Talaromyces marneffei infection is commonly found in hospitalized HIV/AIDS patients in southern China and was associated with a higher mortality rate than most HIV-associated complications. These results highlight the need for improved diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infection by this neglected fungal pathogen in southern China.

Abstract
Previous studies show that endoplasmic reticulum‐associated aminopeptidase (ERAP1/ERAP2) and runt‐related transcription factor 3 (RUNX3) gene polymorphisms are associated with AS (ankylosing spondylitis) in European Caucasians. However, contradictory results were reported in different Asian populations. The purpose of this study was to determine whether eleven candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in ERAP1/ERAP2 and six in RUNX3 genes confer susceptibility to AS with or without acute anterior uveitis (AAU) [AS+AAU+ or AS+AAU–] in Chinese Han. Therefore, a case–control association study was performed in 882 AS+AAU–, 884 AS+AAU+ and 1727 healthy controls. Genotyping was performed using the iPLEXGold genotyping assay. A meta‐analysis was performed to assess the association of polymorphisms of ERAP1 with AS susceptibility in Asian populations. No association was found between SNPs of ERAP1/ERAP2/RUNX3 and susceptibility of AS with or without AAU. A case–control study between patients with human leucocyte antigen HLA‐B27‐positive and healthy controls also failed to demonstrate an association of the tested SNP with AS with or without AAU. Moreover, a meta‐analysis showed that there was no association of rs30187, rs27037, rs27980, rs27434 and rs27582 in ERAP1 with AS in Chinese Han. Taken together, 17 SNPs in ERAP1/ERAP2 and RUNX3 genes did not confer disease susceptibility to AS in Chinese Han.

Abstract
Rapidity-odd directed-flow measurements at midrapidity are presented for Λ, Λ[over ¯], K^{±}, K_{s}^{0}, and ϕ at sqrt[s_{NN}]=7.7, 11.5, 14.5, 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, and 200 GeV in Au+Au collisions recorded by the Solenoidal Tracker detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. These measurements greatly expand the scope of data available to constrain models with differing prescriptions for the equation of state of quantum chromodynamics. Results show good sensitivity for testing a picture where flow is assumed to be imposed before hadron formation and the observed particles are assumed to form via coalescence of constituent quarks. The pattern of departure from a coalescence-inspired sum rule can be a valuable new tool for probing the collision dynamics.

Abstract
Objective: To summarize the clinical and pathological features of small vessel-childhood primary angiitis of the central nervous system (SV-cPACNS), discuss the immune therapy and increase the attention to brain biopsy in SV-cPACNS. Methods: The clinical data, pathology of brain biopsy, treatment and outcome of an SV-cPACNS patient hospitalized in Beijing Children's Hospital in February 2016 were analyzed retrospectively. The cases reported at Pubmed, CNKI and Wanfang databases from 2007 to 2017 were searched, the clinical and pathological features, immunotherapy and prognosis of the disease were summarized according to the literature review. Results: A 70 months old girl had 6 times relapses during 5 months' disease course. Symptoms included convulsions, limb paralysis, blurred vision and speech difficulty. Multiple cortical lesions were found successively in brain MRI but CT angiography was negative. The pathology of brain biopsy revealed thickening of small vessel walls together with lymphocytic infiltration. After the treatment with rituximab, remission was achieved and remained stable without recurrence in 1 year follow up. A total of 44 pathologically confirmed cases reported in nearly 10 years were retrieved. Male to female ratio was 1∶3.5. The average onset age was 9.8 years. Clinical manifestations included seizures (37/45, 82%), headache (35/45, 78%), cognitive decline (28/45, 62%), speech regression(20/45, 44%), paralysis (15/45, 33%), and so on; 70% (19/27) patients experienced relapses. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein slightly elevated, antinuclear antibody and other autoimmune antibodies were mostly negative. Mild lymphocytosis in cerebrospinal fluid was found in 67%(29/43) patients. 53%(23/43) patients had elevated CSF protein level, several had elevated IgG and positive oligoclonal band. Bilateral multifocal lesions were revealed in 80% (36/45) brain MRIs, meanwhile all angiographies were unremarkable. The pathology showed small angiitis and immunohistochemistry positive for CD3 and CD20. Twenty-seven patients had detailed therapeutic information; 25 of them received immunosuppressive agents, including cyclophosphamide, mycophenolate mofetil and rituximab. One patient died, 26 patients achieved remission with 54% (22/44) had neurological sequelae. Conclusions: SV-cPACNS had varied clinical manifestations, there was no specificity in laboratory and imaging examination and angiography was often negative. The definite diagnosis relied on brain biopsy, which showed lymphocytic inflammation of small vessels. SV-cPACNS tended to relapse and induce neurologic deterioration. Treatment required long-term use of steroids and immunosuppressive agents. Rituximab could be an effective agent.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Kelch-like 6 (KLHL6) is a cancer oncogene previously associated with specific human cancers, such as chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. Here, the mechanisms of KLHL6 function were explored in gastric cancer (GC) cells, in an in vivo experimental tumour model, and the prognostic value of KLHL6 analysis in GC tissue evaluated in a cohort of patients with GC.
Methods
Associations between clinicopathological and survival data and KLHL6 expression in GC tissues were analysed. The effects of downregulation of KLHL6 in GC cells was investigated using proliferation, invasion, apoptosis and lymphangiogenesis assays, and analysis of tumour growth in an in vivo experimental model.
Results
KLHL6 was upregulated in 43 per cent of GC tissues compared with 5 per cent of paired non-tumour tissues from 84 patients. KLHL6 protein expression in GC tissues was much higher than that in atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia tissues from benign gastric disease samples. KLHL6 expression was positively related to the intestinal Laurén classification in GC tissues. Downregulated expression of KLHL6 in MGC-803 GC cells reduced colony formation, proliferation, viability, migration and invasion, enhanced apoptosis and inhibited the cell cycle in the G1 phase. Downregulated expression of KLHL6 also suppressed tumour growth in mice. Furthermore, downregulated expression of KLHL6 mRNA reduced the expression of nuclear-associated antigen Ki-67, vascular endothelial growth factor C, hepatocyte growth factor and matrix metalloproteinase 2 in vitro, and KLHL6 protein in tumour tissue of mice.
Conclusion
Abnormal expression of the KLHL6 oncogene promoted GC progression in vitro and in vivo, and its expression level in tumour tissue was found to be of prognostic value.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical features of the Pre-Crisis State and analyze the correlated risk factors of Pre-Crisis State of myasthenia crisis. Methods: We included 93 patients with myasthenia gravis (MG) who experienced 127 times Pre-Crisis State between October 2007 and July 2016. Those patients were hospitalized in the MG specialize center, Department of Neurological Science, first Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. The information of the general situation, the clinical manifestations and the blood gas analysis in those patients were collected using our innovated clinical research form. Statistic methods were applied including descriptive analysis, univariate logistic analysis, multivariate correlation logistic analysis, etc. Results: (1)The typical features of MG Pre-Crisis State included: dyspnea (127 times, 100% not requiring intubation or non-invasive ventilation), bulbar-muscle weakness (121 times, 95.28%), the increased blood partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PCO(2)) (94 times, 85.45%), expectoration weakness (99 times, 77.95%), sleep disorders (107 times, 84.25%) and the infection (99 times, 77.95%). The occurrence of dyspnea in combination with bulbar-muscle weakness (P=0.002) or the increased blood PCO(2) (P=0.042) often indicated the tendency of crisis. (2) The MG symptoms which were proportion to the occurrence of crisis includes: bulbar-muscle weakness (P=0.028), fever (P=0.028), malnutrition (P=0.066), complications (P=0.071), excess oropharyngeal secretions (P=0.005) and the increased blood PCO(2) (P=0.007). The perioperative period of thymectomy would not increase the risk of crisis. Conclusions: Dyspnea indicates the occurrence of the Pre-Crisis State of MG. In order to significantly reduce the morbidity of myasthenia crisis, the bulbar-muscle weakness, the increased blood PCO(2), expectoration weakness, sleep disorders, infection & fever and excess oropharyngeal secretions should be treated timely.

Abstract
pH-responsive hydrogels are of great interest for the controlled release of drugs. However, the changes in the structural and mechanical properties of hydrogels during the pH-responsive swelling/contraction process remains largely unknown. In this article, we demonstrate that coherence-gated dynamic light scattering can be used to in situ characterize the structural dynamics of chitosan (CS) hydrogels at different pH values and show that the CS hydrogels undergo viscoelastic modulations during the swelling/contraction/recovery process induced by pH changes. The conditions for the CS hydrogels to undergo these modulations are found by continuously monitoring the nonequilibrium, long-term dynamical process. Our findings are in a close correspondence to the macroscopic observations made at time points where the CS hydrogels are at equilibrium.

Abstract
Objective: To summarize the surgical techniques, benefits and limitations of transnasal endoscopic resection and optic nerve decompression for patients with optic neuropathy caused by fibro-osseous lesions. Methods: Eight patients with optic neuropathy caused by fibro-osseous lesions who accepted endoscopic surgery of either resection of the lesion or decompression of optic nerve in Otorhinolaryngology Hospital, First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from 2007 to 2016 were retrospectively reviewed and followed until April, 2017. Analyses were performed on the pathology type, disease extent and disease duration, especially on the visual acuity and visual field changes before and after surgery. Results: Eight patients (5 male and 3 female) were included in this study, with a median age of 12 years old (8-19 years old). The median disease duration was 12 months (1-72 months). The visual acuity (VA) of five patients (40 cm/FC, 0.2, 0.1, 0.2, 10 cm/FC, respectively) improved after surgery (0.1, 0.3, 1.2, 0.1, 0.6, respectively), and one patient had no change of VA after the surgery. Two patients (0.02, hand movement, before surgery) became deprived of light perception (VA=0) immediately after surgery. One patient complicated with intra orbital hemorrhage because of anterior artery injury. No complications of cerebral spinal fluid leak, intra-ocular muscle injury, intra-cranial hemorrhage or brain tissue injury occurred. Conclusion: For the treatment of optic neuropathy caused by fibro-osseous lesions, transnasal endoscopic surgery might have a good outcome.
