Abstract
The use of indoor UV tanning devices (also known as "indoor tanning") has declined in recent years. Less is known about use of dihydroxyacetone-containing products used for tanning (also known as "sunless tanning"). We analyzed data from the 2015 National Health Interview Survey. Analysis was limited to non-Hispanic White women ages 18-49 years. We estimated the proportion of women reporting spray tanning, self-applied lotion tanning, and indoor tanning and used weighted multivariable logistic regression models to examine the relationships between socio-demographic characteristics, skin cancer risk factors, and other cancer risk factors with sunless and indoor tanning. Overall, 17.7% of women reported sunless tanning. Lotion tanning was more common (15.3%) than spray tanning (6.8%), while 12.0% of women engaged in indoor tanning. Among sunless tanners, 23.7% also engaged in indoor tanning. Younger age, ever having a skin exam, skin reactions to the sun, binge drinking, and being at a healthy weight were associated with sunless tanning. While sunless tanning may be less harmful for skin cancer risk than indoor tanning, the frequency with which the two behaviors co-occur suggests that efforts to address societal pressures for women to alter their skin color may have important public health benefits.

Abstract
As the desire and popularity of a tanned appearance continues, the social effects of UV-free tanning are becoming more important. Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) has seen extensive use as the main tanning agent in sunless tanners. The DHA-induced tan is a result of brown melanoidins formed by a non-enzymatic Maillard reaction between DHA and amino acid species found in the stratum corneum. DHA, thereby, provides a safer route to a tanned appearance compared with exposure to ultraviolet radiation. However, DHA is a highly reactive molecule, posing a multitude of challenges for potential product formulations. With their increased use, the safety considerations of topically applied DHA tanners have been investigated. Many different vehicles have been used for topical delivery of DHA, and they are becoming increasingly multifunctional. This review provides a holistic overview of dihydroxyacetone sunless tanning products.

Abstract
Florida residents have the second highest incidence of skin cancer in the nation. Sunscreen usage was found to be the one of the most effective integrative health approaches for reducing risk of skin cancer. Given the limited information on the likelihood of adopting and continuing sunscreen usage behavior, this cross-sectional study aimed to examine the correlates of initiating and sustaining sunscreen usage behavior among Florida dwellers, using the fourth-generation, multi-theory model (MTM) of behavior change. A web-based survey containing 51 questions was emailed to Florida residents aged 18 years or above, who were randomly selected from the state voter file. Psychometric validity of the survey instrument was established using structural equation modeling, and Cronbach’s alpha values were calculated for assessing the internal consistency. An independent-samples-t-test and hierarchical multiple regression tests were used to analyze the data. The results indicated that participants who engaged in sunscreen usage behavior, participatory dialogue (β = 0.062, p < 0.05), behavioral confidence (β = 0.636, p < 0.001), and changes in the physical environment (β = 0.210, p < 0.001) were statistically significant and accounted for 73.6% of the variance in initiating sunscreen usage behavior. In addition, the constructs of emotional transformation (β = 0.486, p < 0.001) and practice for change (β = 0.211, p < 0.001), as well as changes in the social environment (β = 0.148, p < 0.001) were significant predictors of maintaining sunscreen usage behavior and contributed to 59% of variance in sustenance. These findings offer a valuable insight regarding the applicability of MTM models to guiding public health interventions promoting sunscreen usage and preventing UV radiation risk and related skin cancer.

Abstract
Despite substantially higher skin cancer risks, little research has investigated men’s attitudes about skin cancer and how those attitudes relate to their risks of developing skin cancer. This study aims to close the gap in research, regarding men’s perceptions and behaviors about skin cancer, sun exposure, and tanning. This study utilized a cross-sectional survey of 705 men recruited from Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk), reporting attitudes and behaviors towards sun exposure, tanning, and sun protection. While the majority of men reported large daily outdoor activities, that their skin frequently burns with sun exposure, and riskier perceptions of tanning, only a minority reported daily use of sunscreen or most other sun protective behaviors. More sun protection methods were associated with more frequent use of sunscreen and less positive tanning perceptions. Men consistently engaged in high-risk behaviors for developing skin cancer, but they did not engage highly in protective behaviors to mitigate their risk. The findings can help improve clinical and public health interventions to lower men’s risk of skin cancer with strong messages about sunscreen use and sun protective methods.

Abstract
PURPOSE A cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment can have a significant impact on an individual's quality of life. Differences in quality of life by sex among long-term melanoma survivors remain unclear. The objective of this study was to describe sex differences in cancer-specific psychosocial quality of life of long-term melanoma survivors. METHODS Melanoma survivors 7-10 years post-diagnosis from a previously conducted population-based case-control study were recruited for a cross-sectional survey. Validated measures of psychosocial quality of life related to melanoma diagnosis were assessed. Outcomes were compared by sex using linear regression models adjusting for age, education, income, and marital status. RESULTS The survey response rate was 62% (433 females, 291 males; 86% stage I disease). Females were more likely to report changes in their appearance (p = 0.006) and being more fearful of recurrence (p = 0.001) or a second melanoma (p = 0.001) than males but were also more likely to report that melanoma had a positive impact on their lives (p < 0.0001). Males were more likely to agree with statements that emphasized that life's duration is limited (p < 0.0001). CONCLUSION Long-term melanoma survivors reported generally favorable measures of psychosocial quality of life related to their diagnosis. Females and males reported unique quality of life concerns and may require varied methods of support following a melanoma diagnosis.

Abstract
Background Skin diseases can have high morbidity that can be costly to society and individuals. To date, there has been no comprehensive assessment of the burden of skin disease in Canada. Objectives To evaluate the burden of 18 skin and subcutaneous diseases from 1990 to 2017 in Canada using the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) data. Methods The 2017 GBD study measures health loss from 359 diseases and injuries in 195 countries; we evaluated trends in population health in Canada from 1990 to 2017 using incidence, prevalence, mortality, years of life lost (YLLs), years lived with disability (YLDs), and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). Data are presented as rates (per 100 000), counts, or percent change with the uncertainty interval in brackets. Results From 1990 to 2017 for all skin diseases, DALY rates increased by 8% to 971 per 100 000 (674-1319), YLD rates increased by 8% to 897 per 100 000 (616-1235), YLL rates increased by 4% to 74 per 100 000 (53-89), and death rates increased by 18% to 5 per 100 000 (3-6). DALY rates for melanoma increased by 2% to 54 per 100 000 (39-68), for keratinocyte carcinoma by 14% to 17 per 100 000 (16-19), and for skin and subcutaneous disease by 8% to 900 per 100 000 (619-1233). The observed over expected ratios were higher for skin and subcutaneous disease (1.37) and keratinocyte carcinoma (1.17) and were lower for melanoma (0.73). Conclusions The burden of skin disease has increased in Canada since 1990. These results can be used to guide health policy regarding skin disease in Canada.

Abstract
The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning/sexual and gender minority (LGBTQ/SGM) community is a growing population with unique lifestyles, sexual practices, beliefs, health issues, and concerns. Although significant advances have been achieved in recent years to establish better care for LGBTQ/SGM patients, they still face insurmountable stigmatization and health care inequality. Dermatologists play an important role in LGBTQ/SGM patients' well-being because they not only treat their skin conditions, but also help them achieve desirable physical characteristics. This article discusses historical perspectives and current state of LGBTQ/SGM dermatology and attempts to define directions for future research and improvement.

Abstract
Sexual and gender minorities have unique risk factors that may increase their risk of developing skin cancer. In particular, sexual minority men report a higher prevalence of skin cancer (including both keratinocytes carcinomas and melanoma), higher rates of indoor tanning, and overall poorer sun protection behaviors. Sexual and gender minorities also have high rates of alcohol and tobacco use, and infection with human immunodeficiency virus and human papillomavirus, which may increase overall risk of developing skin cancer in these populations. In this review, we discuss the evidence surrounding skin cancer and associated risk factors among sexual and gender minorities.
