Introduction of the Multilink stent into routine angioplasty practice: early angiographic and clinical outcome

Acute and long-term clinical and angiographic outcome after S-Stent implantation: S-Stent multicenter safety and efficacy trial

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate safety and effectiveness of the S-Stent in de novo coronary lesions treated with conventional percutaneous coronary balloon angioplasty. Between January 2000 and June 2001, 120 patients were prospectively enrolled at four study centers. Patients were treated with coronary stenting in a total of 137 lesions. Procedural success was achieved in 100% of 137 attempted lesions. Clinical success was 99.8%. In-hospital mortality was 0.8%; myocardial infarction occurred in 0.8% and stent thrombosis in 0.8%. After stent implantation, the minimal lumen diameter increased from 0.92 +/- 0.43 to 2.74 +/- 0.36 mm (P < 0.0001) and the percent diameter stenosis decreased from 68.0 +/- 16.2 to 4.5 +/- 12.0 (P < 0.0001). At 6-month follow-up, the percent diameter stenosis was 33.5 +/- 21.3 and the angiographic restenosis rate was 16.5%. Target lesion revascularization was required in 12 patients (10.1%). We conclude that the use of S-Stent for coronary intervention resulted in a high procedural success rate and low angiographic restenosis at 6 months after implantation.

Clinical and angiographic results of coronary artery stenting using PURA-VARIO (PUVA) stents

BACKGROUND

Many different stent types are available for intracoronary placement. No clinical trial has demonstrated clearly the superiority of any stent design over another.

METHODS

This study was designed to analyze clinical and angiographic results after using intracoronary PURA-VARIO (Devon Medical, Hamburg, Germany) (PUVA) stents. A total of 306 implanted stents were investigated in a series of 217 unselected patients (61.2 +/- 10.7 years, 74.3% male). Stenting was performed electively and during acute coronary syndromes. Stents were manually mounted on angioplasty balloons and expanded in the target lesion. Angiographic measurements were carried out by quantitative coronary angiography.

RESULTS

Stenting was successful in 214/217 patients (98.8%). During hospitalization (median three days) 206 patients (94.9%) were free from adverse cardiac events. Stent thrombosis occurred in five patients (2.3%), Q-wave infarction in one (0.5%) and urgent percutaneous target vessel revascularization in four (1.8%). Follow-up angiography, performed in 170 patients (78.3%) showed a restenosis (>/=50% diameter stenosis) in 44/170 patients (25.9%), requiring angioplasty in 29 (17.2%). A surgical revascularization was recommended in 13 patients (7.6%). One patient died during follow-up from an unknown cause; however, sudden cardiac death was most likely.

CONCLUSIONS

PUVA stents are characterized by a high level of safety and efficacy. Clinical and angiographic results are comparable with those of other approved stents.

Preliminary experience with the V-flex plus coronary stent: immediate and one-month clinical outcome

Procedural and 1-month outcome data following implantation of the V-Flex Plus stent in our first 54 consecutive patients (35 male; mean age, 62 years) are described. Sixty-four stents were implanted for 60 mainly complex lesions; 48% were left anterior descending; 20%, circumflex; 27%, right coronary artery; and 5%, saphenous vein graft. The Indication for stenting was elective in half of the patients and for a suboptimal result or as a bailout procedure in the other half. The stents were deployed at a mean of 12 atm (range, 6-18) and postdilatated to a mean of 15 atm (range, 8-20). Pre- and postdilatation balloon sizes were 2.96 +/- 0.57 mm and 3.16 +/- 0.34 mm, respectively. The procedural success rate was 98%. There were no deaths or Q-wave myocardial infarctions. One patient suffered a non-Q-wave myocardial infarction and another developed a femoral false aneurysm. At 1-month follow-up, there were no additional events, in particular no revascularization procedures. Eighty-nine percent of patients were free of angina. Implantation of the V-Flex Plus stent is safe and effective with an excellent early success rate comparable to that of published randomized trials and registries of carefully selected patients.
