Abstract
Triazolylidenes derived from readily accessible triazoles are useful ligands for coordination chemistry and catalysis. This work describes the synthesis of Group 11 metal complexes of new ferrocenyl-substituted triazolylidene ligands in which the ferrocene and triazolylidene moieties are separated by a carbonyl linker. In particular, complexes of types [MCl(FcC(O){CCN(Mes)NN(Me)}-κC5)] (M = Cu or Au; Fc = ferrocenyl) and [M(FcC(O){CCN(Mes)NN(Me)}-κC5)2][BF4] (M = Cu, Ag, or Au) were prepared from FcC(O)CCH and characterised by spectroscopic methods, X-ray diffraction analysis and cyclic voltammetry. Using a similar strategy, the Pd(II) complex trans-[PdCl2(Ph2PfcC(O){CCN(Mes)NN(Me)}-κ2P,C5)] (fc = ferrocene-1,1'-diyl) was synthesised and analogously characterised. The phosphinocarbene ligand in this compound coordinates as a trans P,C-chelating ligand, unlike its analogues that lack the CO spacer and similar compounds that combine the phosphine and carbene donor groups on the ferrocene scaffold. The influence of the carbonyl spacer was evaluated in a pair of Pd(II) bis-carbene complexes, [PdBr2({C(Fc)CN(Mes)NN(Me)}-κC5)(iPr2-bimy)] and [PdBr2(FcC(O){CCN(Mes)NN(Me)}-κC5)(iPr2-bimy)] (iPr2-bimy = 1,3-diisopropyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-benzimidazol-2-ylidene), by Huynh's electronic parameters and the FeII/FeIII redox potential from cyclic voltammetry, which suggested an electron density decrease at the ferrocenyl group and decreased σ donor ability of the triazolylidene moiety upon introduction of the CO linker. The Group 11 metal complexes were tested as catalysts for the metal-catalysed cyclisation of N-propargylbenzamide into 2-phenyl-5-methylene-4,5-dihydrooxazole. Among them, the chlorogold complex activated with a silver salt achieved the best results.

Abstract
We report a ferrocene-mediated electrochemical intermolecular oxidative annulation between malonates and styrenes that avoids the use of excess oxidants such as Mn(OAc)3. The reaction proceeds via presumably the generation of a malonyl radical that adds to the styrene. After further anodic oxidation, the resulting benzylic carbocation is intercepted by one of the esters to deliver the desired γ-lactones.

Abstract
From a fundamental perspective, studies of novel mixed-valent complexes containing ferrocenyl units are motivated by the prospect of improving and extending electron transfer models and theories. Here, the series of triferrocenylpnictogens Fc3E was extended to the heavier analogues (E = As, Sb, and Bi), and the influence of the bridging atom was investigated with Fc3P as a reference. Electrochemical studies elucidate the effect of electrostatic contribution on the large redox splitting (ΔE 1) exhibited by the compounds and solvent stabilization in the case of Fc3As. Structural characterization of the triferrocenylpnictogens combined with spectroelectrochemical studies indicates weak electronic couplings in the related cations [Fc3E]+, suggesting a through-space mechanism.

Abstract
Rhodium complexes in the -I and 0 oxidation states are of great potential interest in catalytic applications. In contrast to their rhodium +I congeners, however, the structural and electronic parameters governing their access and stability are far less understood. Herein, we investigate the two-electron reduction of a parameterized series of bis(diphosphine) Rh complexes [Rh(dxpy)2]NTf2 (x=P-substituent, y=alkanediyl bridging P atoms). Through (electro)reductions from the RhI parents, Rh-I d10-complexes were obtained and characterized spectroscopically, including 103Rh NMR data. The reductive steps convolute with structural rearrangements from square planar to tetrahedral coordination. We found that the extent of these reorganisations defines whether the first E0(RhI/0) and second E0(Rh0/-I) reduction potentials are normally ordered, leading to monoelectronic stepwise transitions, or inverted, giving bielectronic events. Reductionist approaches based on Hammett parameters or the P-Rh-P bite angles provide only partial correlations with the redox potentials. However, we identified the C-O stretch of analogue diphosphine complexes as an expedient computational parameter that enables these correlations through both electronic and geometric features, even in a predictive manner. Gaining control over two-electron reduction behaviors through rationalized ligand effects has potential impact beyond Rh complexes, for molecular and enzymatic metal sites commonly exhibiting bielectronic transitions.

Abstract
We report access to the core of biologically relevant aromatic abietane diterpenoids and to the formal synthesis of podocarpic and lambertic acids or γ-lactones via an electrochemical bicyclization process initiated by the ferrocene-mediated anodic oxidation of a malonate via single electron-transfer. This approach permits escaping the use of excess of oxidants such as Mn(OAc)3 and the associated complicated purification.

Abstract
An effective synthetic protocol towards the oxidation of sumanene-ferrocene conjugates bearing one to four ferrocene moieties has been established. The oxidation protocol was based on the transformation of FeII from ferrocene to FeIII-containing ferrocenium cations by means of the treatment of the title organometallic buckybowls with a mild oxidant. Successful isolation of these ferrocenium-tethered sumanene derivatives 5-7 gave rise to the biological evaluation of the first, buckybowl-based anticancer agents, as elucidated by in vitro assays with human breast adenocarcinoma cells (MDA-MB-231) and embryotoxicity trials in zebrafish embryos supported with in silico toxicology studies. The designed ferrocenium-tethered sumanene derivatives featured attractive properties in terms of their use in cancer treatments in humans. The tetra-ferrocenium sumanene derivative 7 featured especially beneficial biological features, elucidated by low (<40% for 10 μM) viabilities of MDA-MB-231 cancer cells together with a 1.4-1.7-fold higher viability of normal cells (human mammary fibroblasts, HMF) for respective concentrations. Compound 7 featured significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells thanks to the presence of sumanene and ferrocenium moieties; the latter motif also provided the selectivity of anticancer action. The biological properties of 7 were also improved in comparison with those of native building blocks, which suggested the effects of the presence of the sumanene skeleton towards the anticancer action of this molecule. Ferrocenium-tethered sumanene derivatives exhibited potential towards the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), responsible for biological damage to the cancer cells, with the most efficient generation of the tetra-ferrocenium sumanene derivative 7. Derivative 7 also did not show any embryotoxicity in zebrafish embryos at the tested concentrations, which supports its potential as an effective and cancer-specific anticancer agent. In silico computational analysis also showed no chromosomal aberrations and no mutation with AMES tests for the compound 7 tested with and without microsomal rat liver fractions, which supports its further use as a potent drug candidate in detailed anticancer studies.

Abstract
Metallocenes are privileged backbones in the fields of synthetic chemistry, catalysis, polymer science, etc. Direct C-H functionalization is undoubtedly the simplest approach for tuning the properties of metallocenes. However, owing to the presence of multiple identical C(sp2 )-H sites, this protocol often suffers from low reactivity and selectivity issues, especially for the regioselective synthesis of 1,3-difunctionalized metallocenes. Herein, an efficient iridium-catalyzed meta-selective C-H borylation of metallocenes is reported. With no need of preinstalled directing groups, this approach enables a rapid synthesis of various boronic esters based on benzoferrocenes, ferrocenes, ruthenocene, and related half sandwich complex. A broad range of electron-deficient and -rich functional groups are all compatible with the process. Notably, C-H borylation of benzoferrocenes takes place exclusively at the benzene ring, which is likely ascribed to the shielding effect of pentamethylcyclopentadiene. The synthetic utility is further demonstrated by easy scalability to gram quantities, the conversion of boron to heteroatoms including N3 , SePh, and OAc, as well as diverse cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract
Metallocenes are highly versatile organometallic compounds. The versatility of the metallocenes stems from their ability to stabilize a wide range of formal electron counts. To date, d-block metallocenes with an electron count of up to 20 have been synthesized and utilized in catalysis, sensing, and other fields. However, d-block metallocenes with more than formal 20-electron counts have remained elusive. The synthesis and isolation of such complexes are challenging because the metal-carbon bonds in d-block metallocenes become weaker with increasing deviation from the stable 18-electron configuration. Here, we report the synthesis, isolation, and characterization of a 21-electron cobaltocene derivative. This discovery is based on the ligand design that allows the coordination of an electron pair donor to a 19-electron cobaltocene derivative while maintaining the cobalt-carbon bonds, a previously unexplored synthetic approach. Furthermore, we elucidate the origin of the stability, redox chemistry, and spin state of the 21-electron complex. This study reveals a synthetic method, structure, chemical bonding, and properties of the 21-electron metallocene derivative that expands our conceptual understanding of d-block metallocene chemistry. We expect that this report will open up previously unexplored synthetic possibilities in d-block transition metal chemistry, including the fields of catalysis and materials chemistry.

Abstract
Nitroxides, also known as nitroxyl radicals, are long-lived or stable radicals with the general structure R1R2N-O•. The spin distribution over the nitroxide N and O atoms contributes to the thermodynamic stability of these radicals. The presence of bulky N-substituents R1 and R2 prevents nitroxide radical dimerization, ensuring their kinetic stability. Despite their reactivity toward various transient C radicals, some nitroxides can be easily stored under air at room temperature. Furthermore, nitroxides can be oxidized to oxoammonium salts (R1R2N═O+) or reduced to anions (R1R2N-O-), enabling them to act as valuable oxidants or reductants depending on their oxidation state. Therefore, they exhibit interesting reactivity across all three oxidation states. Due to these fascinating properties, nitroxides find extensive applications in diverse fields such as biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, materials science, and organic synthesis. This review focuses on the versatile applications of nitroxides in organic synthesis. For their use in other important fields, we will refer to several review articles. The introductory part provides a brief overview of the history of nitroxide chemistry. Subsequently, the key methods for preparing nitroxides are discussed, followed by an examination of their structural diversity and physical properties. The main portion of this review is dedicated to oxidation reactions, wherein parent nitroxides or their corresponding oxoammonium salts serve as active species. It will be demonstrated that various functional groups (such as alcohols, amines, enolates, and alkanes among others) can be efficiently oxidized. These oxidations can be carried out using nitroxides as catalysts in combination with various stoichiometric terminal oxidants. By reducing nitroxides to their corresponding anions, they become effective reducing reagents with intriguing applications in organic synthesis. Nitroxides possess the ability to selectively react with transient radicals, making them useful for terminating radical cascade reactions by forming alkoxyamines. Depending on their structure, alkoxyamines exhibit weak C-O bonds, allowing for the thermal generation of C radicals through reversible C-O bond cleavage. Such thermally generated C radicals can participate in various radical transformations, as discussed toward the end of this review. Furthermore, the application of this strategy in natural product synthesis will be presented.

Abstract
We report the preparation and structural characterization of the first persilylated metallocene via the metalation of decabromoferrocene. Although Grignard conditions turned out to be insufficient due to the steric and electronic effects of silyl groups causing a decreased nucleophilicity of the metalated intermediates, stepwise lithium-halogen exchange yields complex mixtures of polysilylated compounds FeC10DMSnH10-n (n = 10, 9, 8) including the targeted decasilylated ferrocene. These mixtures were successfully separated allowing a systematic study of silylation effects on ferrocene by XRD, CV, NMR and UV/vis spectroscopy supported by DFT calculations. The findings were used to develop a high-yielding and simple preparation method to generate a tenfold substituted overcrowded ferrocene, FeC10DMS8Me2.

Abstract
The functionalization of (R,R)-S,S'-di-tert-butylferrocene-1,1'-disulfoxide by deprotolithiation-electrophilic trapping sequences was studied towards polysubstituted, enantiopure derivatives for which the properties were determined. While the 2,2'-disubstituted ferrocene derivatives were obtained as expected, subsequent functionalization of the 2,2'-di(phenylthio) and 2,2'-bis(trimethylsilyl) derivatives occurred primarily at the 4- or 4,4'-positions. This unusual regioselectivity was discussed in detail in light of pKa values and structural data. The less sterically hindered 2,2'-difluorinated derivative yielded the expected 1,1',2,2',3,3'-hexasubstituted ferrocenes by the deprotometallation-trapping sequence. Further functionalization proved possible, leading to early examples of 1,1',2,2',3,3',4,4'-octa, nona and even decasubstituted ferrocenes. Some of the newly prepared ferrocene-1,1'-disulfoxides were tested as ligands for enantioselective catalysis and their electrochemical properties were investigated.

Electrochemically driven regioselective C-H phosphorylation of group 8 metallocenes. Nat Commun 2022; 13:3496. Abstract
Metallocenes are privileged backbones for synthesis and catalysis. However, the direct dehydrogenative C−H functionalization of unsymmetric metallocenes suffers from reactivity and selectivity issues. Herein, we report an electrochemically driven regioselective C−H phosphorylation of group 8 metallocenes. Mechanistic investigations indicate this dehydrogenative cross coupling occurs through an electrophilic radical substitution of the metallocene with a phosphoryl radical, facilitated by the metallocene itself. This work not only offers an efficient and divergent synthesis of phosphorylated metallocenes, but also provides a guide to interpret the reactivity and regioselectivity for the C−H functionalization of unsymmetric metallocenes. Metallocene-based phosphines are compounds with potential use in catalysis. Here, the authors report the electrochemical regioselective functionalization of group 8 metallocenes with phosphine oxides; over 60 examples of phosphorylated (benzo)ferrocenes and ruthenocenes can be accessed via this method without the need for a preinstalled directing group.

Abstract
The effect of modification of benzoylferrocene periphery on catalytic activity toward drying of alkyd resins has been investigated by the combination of experimental techniques. A series of substituted ferrocenes have been synthesized and characterized by analytical and spectroscopic tools including X-ray diffraction analysis on single crystals. The electrochemical behavior of the ferrocene derivatives has been elucidated by cyclic voltammetry and rotation disk voltammetry. The activity toward room temperature curing of alkyd resin has been evaluated by standard mechanical tests on coated plates, which enabled to establish a structure/catalytic activity relationship. Fast drying of test coatings has been observed for formulations of (3-methoxybenzoyl) ferrocene. Time-resolved infrared spectroscopy in combination with attenuated total reflectance sampling technique enabled to reveal the kinetic origin of the improved performance for this ferrocene derivative.

Abstract
2,4,6-Tris(1-diphenylphosphanyl-1'-ferrocenylene)-1,3,5-triazine (1) coordinates all three coinage metal(I) ions in a 1:1 tridentate coordination mode. The C3 -symmetric coordination in both solid state and solution is stabilised by an uncommon cation-π interaction between the triazine core and the metal cation. Intramolecular dynamic behaviour was observed by variable-temperature NMR spectroscopy. The borane adduct of 1, 1BH3 , displays four accessible oxidation states, suggesting complexes of 1 to be intriguing candidates for redox-switchable catalysis. Complexes 1Cu, 1Ag, and 1Au display a more complicated electrochemical behaviour, and the electrochemical mechanism was studied by temperature-resolved UV/Vis spectroelectrochemistry and chemical oxidation.

Abstract
Persulfurated arenes are a fascinating class of functional molecules with a wide range of potential applications. Ferrocenes are also a multifaceted class of aromatic compounds that can easily be finetuned for an enormous variety of desired properties. A combination of both substance classes might yield an even wider field of applications. Herein, we describe the synthesis of two ferrocenes with one persulfurated cyclopentadienyl ring [C5 (SR)5 ], with R=Me or Ph, together with their crystal structures, optical, and electrochemical properties. Both crystal structures show significant intramolecular sulfur-iron interactions as well as weak intermolecular sulfur- contacts. Cyclovoltammetry of the [C5 (SPh)5 ] compound shows a high oxidation potential of 651 mV vs. FcH/FcH+ .

Abstract
The first synthesis of enantioenriched ferrocenes bearing five different substituents on the same cyclopentadienyl ring is described through an unprecedented asymmetric halogen 'dance' reaction. This work not only extends the chemistry of fluoroferrocene derivatives and constitutes the very first entry into the world of enantioenriched hetero-pentasubstituted ferrocenes, it also lays the foundation for research in other metallocene families.

Abstract
The study describes the synthesis of two porous hybrid polymers (abbreviated as DPPF-HPP and DPPOF-HPP) from the Friedel-Crafts reaction of octavinylsilsesquioxane with 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphine)ferrocene (DPPF) and 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphine oxide)ferrocene (DPPOF), respectively. DPPF-HPP and DPPOF-HPP possess surface areas of about 890 and 780 m2 g-1, respectively, as well as similar pore structures of the coexisting micropores and mesopores. They are excellent materials for high adsorption of different dyes with adsorption capacities of 2280 mg g-1 for Congo Red and 1440 mg g-1 for Crystal Violet. DPPF-HPP also shows a strong affinity to adsorb Hg2+ ions (300 mg g-1). These materials show no sign of degradation under repeated cycles and thus offer potential for wastewater treatment.

Abstract
A series of four ferrocenyl ester compounds, 1-methoxycarbonyl- (1), 1,1'-bis(methoxycarbonyl)- (2), 1,1',3-tris(methoxycarbonyl)- (3) and 1,1',3,3'-tetrakis(methoxycarbonyl)ferrocene (4), has been studied with respect to their potential use as redox mediators. The impact of the number and position of ester groups present in 1-4 on the electrochemical potential E1/2 is correlated with the sum of Hammett constants. The 1/1+ -4/4+ redox couples are chemically stable under the conditions of electrolysis as demonstrated by IR and UV-vis spectroelectrochemical methods. The energies of the C=O stretching vibrations of the ester moieties and the energies of the UV-vis absorptions of 1-4 and 1+ -4+ correlate with the number of ester groups. Paramagnetic 1H NMR redox titration experiments give access to the chemical shifts of 1+ -4+ and underline the fast electron self-exchange of the ferrocene/ferrocenium redox couples, required for rapid redox mediation in organic electrosynthesis.

Abstract
New ferrocenylsulfonium cation based ionic liquids were prepared by direct alkylation of the corresponding ferrocenyl-based thioethers with N-alkylbis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imides (R'TFSI). This convenient direct access to organometallic sulfonium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI) salts without the need for ion exchange was chosen in order to obtain highly pure and reversibly redox active room temperature ILs in many cases. In other cases the anion cation interaction in the solid state was studied by XRD analyses. Moreover a diferrocenylmethylsulfonium tetrafluoroborate with two redox active centers was synthesized. The redox chemistry of these sulfonium salts was investigated via cyclic voltammetry. Furthermore, UV-Vis spectra and thermoanalytical data are discussed. The electron-withdrawing sulfonium group is directly bonded to the ferrocenyl unit, therefore this cationic group influences the potential of these ionic liquids in a more pronounced way than being anchored to the ferrocenyl unit via an organic spacer. With their low absorbance in the visible light and reversible, tunable redox potential, these room temperature ILs open perspectives as redox mediators in dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), as redox electrolytes in supercapacitors or as overcharge protection additives in batteries.

Abstract
The preparation and characterization of new heteronuclear-platinum(ii) complexes containing a 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (dppf) ligand are described. The reaction of the known starting complex [PtMe(κ2N,C-bipyO-H)(SMe2)], A, in which bipyO-H is a cyclometalated rollover 2,2'-bipyridine N-oxide, with the dppf ligand in a 2 : 1 ratio or an equimolar ratio led to the formation of the corresponding binuclear complex [Pt2Me2(κ2N,C-bipyO-H)2(μ-dppf)], 1, or the mononuclear complex [PtMe(κ1C-bipyO-H)(dppf)], 2, respectively. According to the reaction conditions, the dppf ligand in 1 and 2 behaves as either a bridging or chelating ligand. All complexes were characterized by NMR spectroscopy. The solid-state structure of 2 was determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction method and it was shown that the chelating dppf ligand in this complex was arranged in a "synclinal-staggered" conformation. Also, the occurrence of intermolecular C-HCpObipyO-H interactions in the solid-state gave rise to an extended 1-D network. The electronic absorption spectra and the electrochemical behavior of these complexes are discussed. Density functional theory (DFT) was used for geometry optimization of the singlet states in solution and for electronic structure calculations. The analysis of the molecular orbital (MO) compositions in terms of occupied and unoccupied fragment orbitals in 2 was performed.
