Abstract
Since the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, researchers have been working on figuring out ways to tackle multi-organ failure and hyperinflation, which are brought on by a cytokine storm. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), a SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein's cellular receptor, is involved in complicated molecular processes that result in hyperinflammation. Cordyceps militaris is one of the traditional Chinese medicines that is used as an immune booster, and it has exhibited efficacy in lowering blood glucose levels, seminal emissions, and infertility. In the current study, we explored the potential of Cordyceps militaris steroids as key agents in managing the anger of cytokine storm in Covid-19 using network ethnopharmacological techniques and structure-based drug designing approaches. The steroids present in Cordyceps militaris were initially screened against the targets involved in inflammatory pathways. The results revealed that out of 16 steroids, 5 may be effective against 17 inflammatory pathways by targeting 11 pathological proteins. Among the five steroids, beta-sitosterol, Cholest-5-en-3β-ol, 3β, and 7α-Dihydroxycholest-5-ene were found to interact with thrombin (F2), an important protein reported to reduce the severity of inflammatory mediators and Cholest-4-en-3-one was found to target Glucocorticoid receptor (NR3C1). The top docked steroid displayed key interactions with both targets, which retained key interactions throughout the 100 ns simulation period. These compounds were also shown high binding free energy scores in water swap studies. Based on obtained results the current study suggests the use of Cordyceps militaris as an add-on therapy that may reduce the progression of inflammatory co-morbidities among patients infected with SARS-CoV-2.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Abstract
Because one-third of patients deteriorate after their admission to the emergency department, assessing the prognosis of COVID-19 patients is of great importance. However, to date, only lymphopenia and the partial pressure of oxygen/fraction of inspired oxygen (PaO2/FiO2) ratio have been reported as partly predictive of COVID-19-related further deterioration, and their association has not been evaluated. We asked whether other key biomarkers of SARS-CoV-2 immunologic defects-increase in circulating immature granulocytes, loss of monocyte HLA-DR (mHLA-DR) expression, and monocyte differentiation blockade-could also predict further COVID-19 deterioration. A series of 284 consecutive COVID-19 patients, with the sole inclusion criterion of being an adult, were prospectively enrolled at emergency department admission (day 0) of 2 different hospitals: 1 for the exploratory cohort (180 patients) and 1 for the confirmatory cohort (104 patients). Deterioration was assessed over the next 7 days. Neither increased immature granulocyte levels nor monocyte differentiation blockade predicted patient worsening. Among more than 30 clinical, biological, and radiological parameters, the value of decreased P/F ratio and lymphopenia for prediction of further COVID-19 deterioration was strongly confirmed, and the loss of mHLA-DR was the only additional independent marker. Combined together in a simple OxyLymphoMono score, the 3 variables perfectly predicted patients who did not worsen and correctly predicted worsening in 59% of cases. By highlighting lymphocyte and monocyte defects as preceding COVID-19 deterioration, these results point on early immunosuppression in COVID-19 deterioration. Combining P/F ratio, lymphopenia, and loss of mHLA-DR together in a simple and robust score could offer a pragmatic method for COVID-19 patient stratification.

Abstract
Background The COVID-19 pandemic in Latin America generated the need to develop low-cost, fast-manufacturing mechanical ventilators. The Universidad de La Sabana and the Fundacion Neumologica Colombiana designed and manufactured the Unisabana-HERONS (USH) ventilator. Here, we present the preclinical and clinical study results to evaluate its effectiveness and safety characteristics in an animal model (Yorkshire Sow) and five patients with acute respiratory failure receiving mechanical ventilatory support for 24 h. Methods The effectiveness and safety outcomes included maintaining arterial blood gases and pulse oximetry saturation (SpO2), respiratory pressures and volumes (during continuous monitoring) in the range of ARDS and lung-protective strategy goals, and the occurrence of barotrauma. A significance level of 0.05 was used for statistical tests. This clinical trial was registered on Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT04497623) and approved by the ethics committee. Results Among patients treated with the Unisabana-HERONS, the most frequent causes of acute respiratory failure were pneumonia in 3/5 (60 %) and ARDS in 2/5 (40 %). During the treatment, the ventilatory parameters related to lung protection protocols were kept within the safety range, and vital signs and blood gas were stable. The percentage of time that the respiratory pressures or volumes were out of safety range were plateau pressure >30 cm H2O: 0.00 %; driving pressure >15 cm H2O: 0.06 %; mechanical power >15 J/min: 0.00 %; and Tidal volume >8 mL/kg: 0.00 %. There were no adverse events related to the ventilator. The usability questionnaire retrieved a median score for all items between 9 and 10 (best score: 10), indicating great ease of use. Conclusion The Unisabana-HERONS ventilator effectively provided adequate gas exchange and maintained the ventilatory parameters in the range of lung protection strategies in humans and an animal model. Furthermore, it is straightforward to use and is a low-cost medical device.

Abstract
COVID-19 has a broad clinical spectrum, ranging from asymptomatic-mild form to severe phenotype. The severity of COVID-19 is a complex trait influenced by various genetic and environmental factors. Ethnic differences have been observed in relation to COVID-19 severity during the pandemic. It is currently unknown whether genetic variations may contribute to the increased risk of severity observed in Latin-American individuals The aim of this study is to investigate the potential correlation between gene variants at CCL2, OAS1, and DPP9 genes and the severity of COVID-19 in a population from Quito, Ecuador. This observational case-control study was conducted at the Carrera de Biologia from the Universidad Central del Ecuador and the Hospital Quito Sur of the Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social (Quito-SUR-IESS), Quito, Ecuador. Genotyping for gene variants at rs1024611 (A>G), rs10774671 (A>G), and rs10406145 (G>C) of CCL2, OAS1, and DPP9 genes was performed on 100 COVID-19 patients (43 with severe form and 57 asymptomatic-mild) using RFLP-PCR. The genotype distribution of all SNVs throughout the entire sample of 100 individuals showed Hardy Weinberg equilibrium (P=0.53, 0.35, and 0.4 for CCL2, OAS1, and DPP9, respectively). The HWE test did not find any statistically significant difference in genotype distribution between the study and control groups for any of the three SNVs. The multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that individuals with the GG of the CCL2 rs1024611 gene variant had an increased association with the severe COVID-19 phenotype in a recessive model (P = 0.0003, OR = 6.43, 95% CI 2.19-18.89) and for the OAS1 rs10774671 gene variant, the log-additive model showed a significant association with the severe phenotype of COVID-19 (P=0.0084, OR=3.85, 95% CI 1.33-11.12). Analysis of haplotype frequencies revealed that the coexistence of GAG at CCL2, OAS1, and DPP9 variants, respectively, in the same individual increased the presence of the severe COVID-19 phenotype (OR=2.273, 95% CI: 1.271-4.068, P=0.005305). The findings of the current study suggests that the ethnic background affects the allele and genotype frequencies of genes associated with the severity of COVID-19. The experience with COVID-19 has provided an opportunity to identify an ethnicity-based approach to recognize genetically high-risk individuals in different populations for emerging diseases.

Abstract
SARS-CoV-2 is a highly contagious and transmissible viral infection that first emerged in 2019 and since then has sparked an epidemic of severe respiratory problems identified as "coronavirus disease 2019" (COVID-19) that causes a hazard to human life and safety. The virus developed mainly from bats. The current epidemic has presented a significant warning to life across the world by showing mutation. There are different tests available for testing Coronavirus, and RT-PCR is the best, giving more accurate results, but it is also time-consuming. There are different options available for treating n-CoV-19, which include medications such as Remdesivir, corticosteroids, plasma therapy, Dexamethasone therapy, etc. The development of vaccines such as BNT126b2, ChAdOX1, mRNA-1273 and BBIBP-CorV has provided great relief in dealing with the virus as they decreased the mortality rate. BNT126b2 and ChAdOX1 are two n-CoV vaccines found to be most effective in controlling the spread of infection. In the future, nanotechnology-based vaccines and immune engineering techniques can be helpful for further research on Coronavirus and treatment of this deadly virus. The existing knowledge about the existence of SARS-CoV-2, along with its variants, is summarized in this review. This review, based on recently published findings, presents the core genetics of COVID-19, including heritable characteristics, pathogenesis, immunological biomarkers, treatment options and clinical updates on the virus, along with patents.

Abstract
COVID-associated rhino-orbito-cerebral Mucormycosis (CA-ROCM), henceforth referred to as Covid-Associated Mucormycosis (CAM), is a serious and fatal condition unless treated promptly and completely. The main treatment of the CAM is complete surgical debridement and administration of systemic antifungals. The first line antifungal recommended for CAM is Amphotericin-B. Since Amphotericin-B has systemic side effects mainly on the renal system, a timely decision to start and end Amphotericin-B therapy is very essential. Besides the Computed Tomography (CT) scan, serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) levels are a good indicator of CAM-associated inflammation levels in the patient's body. By monitoring the CRP levels, we can titrate amphotericin treatment to cause minimal harm to the kidneys. Our study was done to analyze the kinetics of C-reactive protein in patients of CAM admitted in a tertiary-care hospital and compare it with the CRP levels in COVID-associated non-Mucormycosis Sinusitis patients. Aim and objective To study the kinetics of serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels among patients undergoing in-patient care for COVID-associated rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis and compare with serum CRP levels in COVID-19 patients suffering from sinusitis without rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis. Materials and methods This was a retrospective cohort study. The source of data was post-COVID sinusitis patients who were admitted during 2nd wave of COVID-19 in India in our hospital whose medical records were accessed by the Medical Records Department. The subjects were recruited into the two study groups namely the Mucormycosis group and the non-Mucormycosis group based on the histopathological report of the nasal biopsy specimen. The medical records of each member of the two groups were studied for the levels of serum C-reactive protein measured at the time of admission and every 5(+1) days thereafter till the time of discharge. The kinetics of serum C-reactive protein levels, which is a marker of inflammation is studied in each of the two groups and compared using statistical methods. Results There was a significant difference between Mucormycosis and Non-Mucormycosis groups in CRP-level kinetics. However, there was no significant trend of decrease or increase over time in Mucormycosis as well as non-Mucormycosis cases. Conclusion CRP is an important biomarker in assessing the septic response to COVID-associated rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis. Detection of raised CRP levels helps in prompt early initiation of anti-fungal treatment. Also, monitoring the levels of serum CRP will guide in deciding the time to stop the antifungals at an appropriate time. CRP monitoring is commonly available and affordable. Hence, we recommend CRP monitoring of in-patients of CAM.

Abstract
Introduction Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, which can cause organ failure in several organs, cardiac problems, or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Identifying clinical epidemiological characteristics and risk factors for complications of COVID-19 allows clinicians to diagnose and treat promptly. Objectives This study aims to describe the clinical epidemiological characteristics of COVID-19 and assess risk factors for the severity of SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia in children treated at Haiphong Children's Hospital. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in Haiphong Children's Hospital, Haiphong, Vietnam, for one year, from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022. Results In our study, 540 children were evaluated; the male-to-female ratio was 1.48/1; the median age was 23 months (IQR=6-74); Children aged under one year accounted for the highest proportion (n=202; 37.4%); 40 (7.4%) children had underlying illnesses. The number of admitted patients diagnosed with COVID-19 peaked in February 2022. Regarding severity, 380 (70.4%) cases were mild, 136 (25.2%) were moderate, only 24 (4.4%) cases were severe, and no children died. Common symptoms were fever in 483 (89.4%), coughing in 399 (73.9%), and tachypnea in 163 (30.2%) children. Laboratory features: white blood cell count, platelet count, serum CRP, and coagulation test showed little change. Around 116 (21.5%) had lymphopenia and 148 (27.4%) had pneumonia. Patients under one year were approximately 1.64 times more likely to experience pneumonia complications from COVID-19 than those without such a history (OR=1.64, 95%CI = 1.12 - 2.41, p=0.0112). Patients with underlying conditions were approximately 2.08 times more likely to experience pneumonia complications from COVID-19 compared to those without such conditions (OR=2.08, 95%CI =1.08 - 4.02, p=0.0289). Conclusion In COVID-19 pediatric patients, the severity of the disease was mild to moderate without any mortality. Children aged under one year accounted for the highest proportion of all COVID-19 patients. This study found that age under one year and underlying illnesses are related to pneumonia in COVID-19 pediatric patients.

Abstract
Background People frequently complain of long-term constipation. The cost associated with using modern medications to treat constipation is significant, and the probability of encountering side effects is notably high. These limitations restrict their effectiveness in therapy, remain unresolved, and underscore the need for research on alternative therapeutic approaches. Plants of the genus Artemisia have been used to treat constipation. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the laxative effects of aqueous A. abyssinica leaf and stem extracts of Artemisia abyssinica in mice. Methods The laxative activity of A. abyssinica leaf and stem extracts was evaluated using three models: laxative activity, gastrointestinal motility, and gastrointestinal secretion. In this study, bisacodyl was used as a standard laxative and loperamide was used to induce constipation. Results In the laxative test, 200 (P<0.05) and 400 mg/kg (p<0.01) doses of plant extract significantly increased the percentage of fecal water content. Moreover, the highest dose of extract increased the frequency of defecation after 12 h (p<0.05). In the remaining two models, the experimental plans also showed significantly higher gastrointestinal motility and noticeable accumulation of intestinal fluid. Conclusion The results of this study indicate that aqueous leaf and stem extracts of A. abyssinica have laxative effects.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate potential presence and resolution of longer-term pulmonary diffusion limitation and microvascular perfusion impairment in COVID-19 convalescents. MATERIALS AND METHODS This prospective, longitudinal study was carried out between May 2020 and April 2023. COVID-19 convalescents repeatedly and age/sex-matched healthy controls once underwent MRI including hyperpolarized 129Xe MRI. Blood samples were obtained in COVID-19 convalescents for immunophenotyping. Ratios of 129Xe in red blood cells (RBC), tissue/plasma (TP), and gas phase (GP) as well as lung surface-volume ratio were quantified and correlations with CD4+/CD8+ T cell frequencies were assessed using Pearson's correlation coefficient. Signed-rank tests were used for longitudinal and U tests for group comparisons. RESULTS Thirty-five participants were recruited. Twenty-three COVID-19 convalescents (age 52.1 ± 19.4 years, 13 men) underwent baseline MRI 12.6 ± 4.2 weeks after symptom onset. Fourteen COVID-19 convalescents underwent follow-up MRI and 12 were included for longitudinal comparison (baseline MRI at 11.5 ± 2.7 weeks and follow-up 38.0 ± 5.5 weeks). Twelve matched controls were included for comparison. In COVID-19 convalescents, RBC-TP was increased at follow-up (p = 0.04). Baseline RBC-TP was lower in patients treated on intensive care unit (p = 0.03) and in patients with severe/critical disease (p = 0.006). RBC-TP correlated with CD4+/CD8+ T cell frequencies (R = 0.61/ - 0.60) at baseline. RBC-TP was not significantly different compared to matched controls at follow-up (p = 0.25). CONCLUSION Impaired microvascular pulmonary perfusion and alveolar membrane function persisted 12 weeks after symptom onset and resolved within 38 weeks after COVID-19 symptom onset. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT 129Xe MRI shows improvement of microvascular pulmonary perfusion and alveolar membrane function between 11.5 ± 2.7 weeks and 38.0 ± 5.5 weeks after symptom onset in patients after COVID-19, returning to normal in subjects without significant prior disease. KEY POINTS • The study aims to investigate long-term effects of COVID-19 on lung function, in particular gas uptake efficiency, and on the cardiovascular system. • In COVID-19 convalescents, the ratio of 129Xe in red blood cells/tissue plasma increased longitudinally (p = 0.04), but was not different from matched controls at follow-up (p = 0.25). • Microvascular pulmonary perfusion and alveolar membrane function are impaired 11.5 weeks after symptom onset in patients after COVID-19, returning to normal in subjects without significant prior disease at 38.0 weeks.

Abstract
A large-scale outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) occurred in Shanghai, China, in early December 2022. To study the incidence and characteristics of otitis media with effusion (OME) complicating SARS-CoV-2, we collected 267 middle ear effusion (MEE) samples and 172 nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs from patients. The SARS-CoV-2 virus was detected by RT-PCR targeting. The SARS-CoV-2 virus, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), and transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) expression in human samples was examined via immunofluorescence. During the COVID-19 epidemic in 2022, the incidence of OME (3%) significantly increased compared to the same period from 2020 to 2022. Ear symptoms in patients with SARS-CoV-2 complicated by OME generally appeared late, even after a negative NP swab, an average of 9.33 ± 6.272 days after COVID-19 infection. The SARS-CoV-2 virus was detected in MEE, which had a higher viral load than NP swabs. The insertion rate of tympanostomy tubes was not significantly higher than in OME patients in 2019-2022. Virus migration led to high viral loads in MEE despite negative NP swabs, indicating that OME lagged behind respiratory infections but had a favorable prognosis. Furthermore, middle ear tissue from adult humans coexpressed the ACE2 receptor for the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the TMPRSS2 cofactors required for virus entry.

Abstract
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was first introduced in December 2019, which is known as severe acute respiratory syndrome caused by coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) that is a serious and life-threatening disease. Although pneumonia is the most common manifestation of COVID-19 and was initially introduced as a respiratory infection, in fact, the infection of COVID-19 is a subset of complications and damage to various organs. There are several reports of cardiac involvement with COVID-19. A wide range of cardiac complications may occur following COVID-19 infection, including systolic heart failure, myocarditis, pericarditis, atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, and thromboembolic events. There are various hypotheses about the pathophysiology of cardiovascular involvement by this virus. At the top of these hypotheses is the release of cytokines to the heart. Although there are other assumptions, considering that one of the causes of death in patients with COVID-19 is arrhythmia. It is necessary to know correctly about its pathophysiology and etiology. Therefore, in this study, we have reviewed the articles of recent years in the field of pathophysiology and etiology of arrhythmia in patients with COVID-19 infection. The purpose of this study was to provide a basis for a correct and more comprehensive understanding of the pathogenesis of arrhythmia in patients with COVID-19 infection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE As the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic moves into its fourth year, gaining a better clinical understanding of individuals with post COVID-19 condition is paramount. The current study examined the neurocognitive and psychological status of adults with post COVID-19 condition, as well as explored the impact of high psychological burden on objective neurocognitive functioning and the relationship between subjective cognitive concerns and objective neurocognitive findings. METHOD Valid neuropsychological assessments were completed with 51 symptomatic adults who were 297.55 days, on average, following a confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Participants completed brief self-report depression, anxiety, and PTSD questionnaires, a questionnaire with subjective ratings of cognitive abilities, and standardized neurocognitive tests that examined performance validity, attention, processing speed, verbal learning and memory, naming, visual construction, and executive functioning. RESULTS The participants were mostly Caucasian (80.39%), middle-aged (average 47.37 years), women (82.35%), who were never hospitalized (86.27%). Despite all individuals reporting cognitive problems in daily life, mean performances on objective testing did not reveal any neurocognitive deficits (at or below the 8th percentile) at a group level. Approximately half (49.02%) of the participants reported co-occurring mental health symptoms that were considered clinically elevated based on questionnaire results. High psychological symptom burden was associated with greater subjective cognitive difficulties but did not result in neurocognitive dysfunction on objective testing. CONCLUSIONS This study contributes to the literature regarding post COVID-19 condition in adults including the relationship between the cognitive and psychological symptoms. Results are summarized in key clinical learning points.

Abstract
Public health students have been seen as a potential force to meet the demand for health workers during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. However, few studies have provided empirical data. This study was conducted to summarize the experiences of public health students who engaged in voluntary service in response to the COVID-19 outbreak in Guangzhou, China. A cross-sectional study was conducted among postgraduate and undergraduate students at the School of Public Health, Guangdong Pharmaceutical University, in August 2021. A self-designed online questionnaire was used to collect data on the experience of voluntary service during the early stage of the outbreak (in February 2020) and during the normalization stage of the prevention and control of COVID-19 (in June 2021) in China. Among the 96 students, 40 (41.7%) participated in voluntary service in February 2020, and 56 (58.3%) participated in voluntary service in June 2021. Most of the students participated in the voluntary service due to the motivations to help others (55.2%), to apply theoretical knowledge to practice (74.0%), to improve their fieldwork skills (72.9%), and to gain the experience for future careers (80.2%). Most volunteers were driven by professional responsibility (81.3%). More than half (53.1%) of the students felt anxious during their voluntary service. A lower proportion of students felt anxious in June 2021 than in February 2020 (44.6% vs 65.0%, P = .049), while a higher proportion of students found voluntary service harder than expected in June 2021 than in February 2020 (33.9% vs 7.5%, P = .002). Most students improved their knowledge and skills about COVID-19 after the training, but some knowledge and skills still needed improvement after their voluntary service. Public health students could help support the health system during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing adequate training and protection. More efforts should be made to provide psychological support for student volunteers and to optimize the curriculum to bridge the gap in public health education between theoretical knowledge and practical skills in responding to public health emergencies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the end of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, it becomes intriguing to observe the impact of innovative digital technologies on the diagnosis and management of diseases, in order to improve clinical outcomes for patients. OBJECTIVE The research aims to enhance diagnostics, prediction, and personalized treatment for patients across three classes of clinical severity (mild, moderate, and severe). What sets this study apart is its innovative approach, wherein classification extends beyond mere disease presence, encompassing the classification of disease severity. This novel perspective lays the foundation for a crucial decision support system during patient triage. METHODS An artificial neural network, as a deep learning technique, enabled the development of a complex model based on the analysis of data collected during the process of diagnosing and treating 1000 patients at the Tešanj General Hospital, Bosnia and Herzegovina. RESULTS The final model achieved a classification accuracy of 82.4% on the validation data set, which testifies to the successful application of the artificial neural network in the classification of clinical outcomes and therapy in patients infected with viral infections. CONCLUSION The results obtained show that expert systems are valuable tools for decision support in healthcare in communities with limited resources and increased demands. The research has the potential to improve patient care for future epidemics and pandemics.

Abstract
The present study aimed to inspect the serum levels of the soluble receptors, sTNFR1 and sTNFR2, in patients with COVID-19. The large production of inflammatory cytokines is an essential process in the pathogenesis of COVID-19. TNF is a multifaceted proinflammatory cytokine which has soluble and membrane receptors. Thus, knowing the role of these receptors will help better understand this disease's immunopathogenesis. We included 131 patients confirmed for SARS-CoV-2, separated into three groups: ward patients without O2 support, group A (n = 14); ward patients with O2 support, group B (n = 85), and patients in an intensive care unit (ICU), group C (n = 32), making up the receptors dosed by flow cytometry. The results showed that sTNFR1 and sTNFR2 are associated with disease severity, being higher in group C when compared to group A. As for the levels of receptors and their relationship with the degree of lung involvement, we found higher values of sTNFR1 in patients in group 1 (pulmonary involvement < 25%), suggesting that inflammatory processes related to TNF are not necessarily associated with the primary site of infection. When we analysed the patients who passed away compared to those who recovered, both receptors significantly increased the mortality numbers. These findings suggest a relevant influence of soluble receptors in the inflammatory processes involved in the pathogenesis of COVID-19. Wherefore, we suggest using these receptors as biomarkers of severity and mortality of the disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Older adults constitute the majority of patients admitted to COVID-19 intensive care units (ICUs). The knowledge and attitudes of ICU nurses towards older adults diagnosed with COVID-19 significantly impact the quality of treatment and nursing care they deliver. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to determine the ICU nurses' knowledge and attitudes towards older adults with COVID-19. METHOD This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted between February and October 2021. The sample consisted of 112 ICU nurses from a public hospital and three university hospitals. Demographic data were collected together with the Nurse COVID-19 Knowledge Level Assessment Form (NKLAF) and the Kogan's Attitudes Toward Old People Scale (KAOPS). The data were analysed using the independent-groups t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Mann-Whitney U Test (Z score), Kruskale-Wallis Variance Test, post hoc test, and Spearman's correlation analysis. RESULTS Intensive care nurses had a mean NKLAF score of 21.29 ± 2.63 (mean difference: 21.24). They had a mean KAOPS score of 129.37 ± 15.20 (mean difference: 129.32). There was no correlation between NKLAF and KAOPS scores (r = 0.163, p > 0.05). Female nurses had a significantly higher mean NKLAF score than their male counterparts (Z: -2.733, p = 0.006). The intensive care nurses with bachelor's degrees had a significantly higher mean KAOPS score than those with associate degrees (KW: 6.888, p = 0.032). CONCLUSION The results indicate that ICU nurses know enough about COVID-19 and have positive attitudes towards older adults diagnosed with it. Moreover, some descriptive characteristics affect the knowledge and attitudes of ICU nurses towards older adults. Therefore, nurses should consider these factors when planning interventions to enhance their care for older adults.

Abstract
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection leads to various clinical symptoms including anemia. Lipocalin-2 has various biological functions, including defense against bacterial infections through iron sequestration, and it serves as a biomarker for kidney injury. In a human protein array, we observed increased lipocalin-2 expression due to parental SARS-CoV-2 infection in the Calu-3 human lung cancer cell line. The secretion of lipocalin-2 was also elevated in response to parental SARS-CoV-2 infection, and the SARS-CoV-2 Alpha, Beta, and Delta variants similarly induced this phenomenon. In a Calu-3 implanted mouse xenograft model, parental SARSCoV- 2 and Delta variant induced lipocalin-2 expression and secretion. Additionally, the iron concentration increased in the Calu-3 tumor tissues and decreased in the serum due to infection. In conclusion, SARS-CoV-2 infection induces the production and secretion of lipocalin-2, potentially resulting in a decrease in iron concentration in serum. Because the concentration of iron ions in the blood is associated with anemia, this phenomenon could contribute to developing anemia in COVID-19 patients. [BMB Reports 2023; 56(12): 669-674].

Abstract
Background: Coronavirus disease 2019, caused by SARS-CoV-2 (SCV-2) was stated as a pandemic on March 11 2020 by World Health Organization (WHO), and since then, it has become a major health issue worldwide. It mainly attacks the respiratory system with various accompanying complications, including cardiac injury, renal failure, encephalitis and Stroke.Materials and Methods: The current systematic review has been compiled to summarize the available literature on SCV-2 induced ischemic Stroke and its subtypes. Further, the mechanisms by which the virus crosses the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to enter the brain have also been explored. The role of CRP and D-dimer as potent prognostic markers was also explored. The literature search was carried out comprehensively on Google scholar, PubMed, SCOP US, Embase and Cochrane databases by following guidelines.Results: All the studies were reviewed thoroughly by authors and disagreements were resolved by consensus and help of the senior authors. The most common subtype of the IS was found to be large artery atherosclerosis in SCV-2 induced IS. Hypertension emerged as the most significant risk factor. The mechanism resulting in elevated levels of CRP and D-dimer have also been discussed. However, there is a scarcity of definitive evidence on how SCV-2 enters the human brain. The available literature based on various studies demonstrated that SCV-2 enters through the nasopharyngeal tract via olfactory cells to olfactory neurons, astrocytes and via choroid plexus through endothelial cells. Further, disruption of gut-brain axis has been also discussed.Conclusion: Data available in the literature is not adequate to come to a conclusion. Therefore, there is a need to carry out further studies to delineate the possible association between SCV-2 induced IS.

Abstract
Background Patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) usually complain of fever, cough, and sore throat. This study examined the effects of aromatherapy on sore throat, nasal symptoms, stress, fatigue, and sleep quality by administering it to adults with post-COVID-19 condition. Methods This study was conducted in a randomised controlled design. Its target population were adults who were released from COVID-19 quarantine treatment within 45 days from infection onset and capable of performing daily activities after isolation treatment. The participants were randomised into aromatherapy group (AG) and control group (CG). To test experimental treatment effects, the levels of sore throat, nasal symptoms, stress, fatigue and sleep quality were measured at the baseline (pre-test) and after the trial (post-test), using the numerical rating scale for sore throat, stress and fatigue, the Total Nasal Symptoms Score for nasal symptoms, and the Korean Version of Modified Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire for quality of sleep. Results After experimental treatment, there was a significant difference in sore throat in AG compared to CG on the 3rd day (t=-2.022 p=0.048) and 4th day (t=-2.450, p=0.017) of treatment. There was also a significant difference in fatigue between AG and CG on the 2nd day(t=-2.748, p=0.008), 3rd day (t=-2.948, p=0.005) and 4th day (t=-3.084, p=0.003) of treatment. There was no significant difference in TNSS, stress, and sleep quality between the two groups after the experimental treatment. Conclusion Inhaling aroma essential oils reduced sore throat and fatigue in adults with post-COVID-19 condition, demonstrating the feasibility of aromatherapy as an effective treatment. Abstract
This review aims to elucidate the myocarditis incidence in SARS-CoV-2-positive athletes and to evaluate different screening approaches to derive sports cardiological recommendations after SARS-CoV-2 infection. The overall incidence of athletes (age span 17-35 years, 70% male) with myocarditis after SARS-CoV-2 infection was 1.2%, with a high variation between studies (which contrasts an incidence of 4.2% in 40 studies within the general population). Studies that used conventional screening based on symptoms, electrocardiogram, echocardiography, and cardiac troponin - only followed by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in case of abnormal findings - reported lower myocarditis incidences (0.5%, 20/3978). On the other hand, advanced screening that included cardiac magnetic resonance imaging within the primary screening reported higher incidences (2.4%, 52/2160). The sensitivity of advanced screening seems to be 4.8 times higher in comparison to conventional screening. However, we recommend prioritization of conventional screening, as the economical load of advanced screening for all athletes is high and the incidence of myocarditis in SARS-CoV-2-positive athletes and the risk of adverse outcomes seems low. Future research will be important to analyze the long-term effects of myocarditis after infection with SARS-CoV-2 in athletes for risk stratification to optimally guide a safe return to sport.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES No definite treatment is known for COVID-19 till date. The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of customized Homoeopathic medicines, when used as an add-on treatment to Standard of Care (SOC), in patients suffering from moderate to severe COVID-19 infection. METHODS This was a randomized, controlled, single-blind, parallel-group trial where 214 COVID19-positive patients were screened for moderate and severe cases of COVID-19. Adjuvant homoeopathic medicines were given in the treatment group and SOC was given to both groups. The duration of oxygen support was compared as the primary outcome. Subjects were followed for 28 days or till the end-point of mechanical ventilation/ death. RESULTS Of 129 subjects included, 57 and 55 were severe; and 8 and 9 were moderate cases in Homoeopathy and SOC arms, respectively. In all, 9 (15.2%) participants in Homoeopathy and 20 (32.2%) participants in SOC arms eventually expired (p<0.05). Oxygen support was required for 9.84±7.00 and 14.92±7.549 days in Homoeopathy and SOC arms, respectively (p<0.005). Subjects receiving Homoeopathy (12.9±6.days) had a shorter hospitalization stay than in SOC (14.9±7.5 days). Homoeopathy arm (10.6±5.7 days) also showed statistically significant mean conversion time of of Realtime-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) from positive to negative than the SOC arm (12.9±5.6 days). The mean score of Clinical Outcome Ordinal Scale (COOS) was lower in the Homoeopathy arm. Laboratory markers [Interleukins (IL)-6, C-reactive protein (CRP), Neutrophils-Lymphocytes ratio (NLR)]were normalized earlier in Homoeopathy arm. CONCLUSION Homoeopathy, as add-on therapy with SOC for COVID-19 management, demonstrates a reduction in mortality and morbidity, by reduced requirement of oxygen and hospitalization. Some laboratory markers are normalized at an earlier time. Hence, there is overall control over the disease. Abstract
The inappropriate prescribing of antimicrobials increases antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which poses an appreciable threat to public health, increasing morbidity and mortality. Inappropriate antimicrobial prescribing includes their prescribing in patients hospitalized with COVID-19, despite limited evidence of bacterial infections or coinfections. Knowledge of current antimicrobial utilization in Saudi Arabia is currently limited. Consequently, the objective of this study was to document current antimicrobial prescribing patterns among Saudi hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study included patients with or without COVID-19 who were admitted to five hospitals in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Data were gathered using the Global PPS methodology and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Out of 897 hospitalized patients, 518 were treated with antibiotics (57.7%), with an average of 1.9 antibiotics per patient. There were 174 culture reports collected, representing 36.5% of all cases. The most common indication for antibiotics use was community-acquired infections, accounting for 61.4% of all cases. 'Watch' antibiotics were the most commonly prescribed antibiotics, with the cephalosporins and carbapenems representing 38.7% of all antibiotics prescribed, followed by the penicillins (23.2%). Notably, Piperacillin/Tazobactam and Azithromycin were prescribed at relatively higher rates for COVID-19 patients. These findings highlight the need for continuous efforts to optimize the rational use of antibiotics through instigating appropriate antimicrobial stewardship programs in hospitals and, as a result, reduce AMR in the country.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Recent evidence shows that COVID-19 infection does not have a worse prognosis in patients with immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMID), although they develop a worse response to vaccination. OBJECTIVE To compare the incidence of COVID-19 and clinical features in patients with IMID between the first and sixth waves. METHOD Prospective observational study of two cohorts of IMID patients diagnosed with COVID-19. First cohort March to May 2020, and second cohort December/2021 to February/2022. Sociodemographic and clinical variables were collected and, in the second cohort, COVID-19 vaccination status. Statistical analysis established differences in characteristics and clinical course between the two cohorts. RESULTS In total, 1627 patients were followed up, of whom 77 (4.60%) contracted COVID-19 during the first wave and 184 in the sixth wave (11.3%). In the sixth wave, there were fewer hospitalisations, intensive care unit admissions, and deaths than in the first wave (p=.000) and 180 patients (97.8%) had at least one dose of vaccine. CONCLUSION Early detection and vaccination have prevented the occurrence of serious complications.

Abstract
Background University students are a vulnerable population and faced a significant psychological impact from the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the level of fear of COVID-19 among university students and to evaluate the possible relationship between fear of COVID-19 and socio-demographic, health-related determinants, variables related to the COVID-19 and variables related to the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study between December 2020 and December 2021 on a sample of 950 university students from two universities in southern Spain. Participants completed a form that collected socio-demographic, health-related and COVID-related variables, a validated questionnaire related to the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the fear of COVID Scale (FCV-19S). Descriptive, inferential, and multivariable linear regression analyzes were conducted. Results The mean FCV-19S score was 14.86 ± 5.16 points. The factors identified as predictors of FCV-19S were being female (p < 0.001), holding religious beliefs (p = 0.04), living in towns with over 10,000 inhabitants (p < 0.01), living with someone vulnerable to COVID-19 (p = 0.02), watching TV to keep informed about COVID-19 (p < 0.01), believing in a low probability of surviving if infected with COVID-19 (p < 0.001), having a higher level of death anxiety (p < 0.001) and suffering from insomnia (p < 0.001). Conclusion An average fear of COVID-19 score of 14.86 ± 5.16 points has been found among university students in Spain. These findings can aid in identifying specific factors contributing to fear of COVID-19 and in developing coping strategies to alleviate the stress of the pandemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Spread worldwide through droplets, the Virus Sars-Cov-19 has caused a global health emergency alarm. In order to limit its spread, the use of masks has become part of the daily life of the entire population, however, little is known about its constant use and the changes generated in the oral cavity. This work aims to investigate correlations between the continuous use of masks covering the nose and mouth for 3 h and changes in the ecological factors of the oral cavity. METHODS 34 volunteers were divided into 2 groups: wear only the filtering facepiece code 2 (FFP2) mask (Group A) and wear the FFP2 mask covered by a surgical mask (Group B). Measurement of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), saliva rehydration and consistency test, collection of basal saliva and saliva stimulated with paraffin gum and mucosal swab were collected and analyzed at two times: before using the mask(s) (T0) and 3 h after continuous use of the mask(s) (T1). RESULTS The results indicated a significant difference between the groups, in which the basal saliva volume and pH and the peaks of VOCs increased for group B between T0 and T1. The rehydration time decreased and the volume and pH of the stimulated saliva increased, but with no significant difference between the groups. Furthermore, group B showed a significant decrease in Candida albicans Colony Forming Units (CFUs) and Total Bacterial Count (TBC) between T0 and T1. CONCLUSION It is concluded that the prolonged use of the FFP2 mask covered by a surgical mask can generate oral alterations in the user.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the occurrence and identify the factors contributing to hospitalization among individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. METHODS From June 15, 2020 to September 30, 2020, a cross-sectional study utilizing an online questionnaire was carried out in Jordan. The study included 657 COVID-19 patients who had recovered and had reached a minimum of 3 months post-illness. Sociodemographic and COVID-19-related data were collected. The questionnaire was distributed to members of the "My Experience with COVID-19 Association" in Jordan. RESULTS The prevalence of hospitalization among COVID-19 patients was 3%. Patients with hypertension (p=0.00), diabetes mellitus (p=0.00), and heart disease (p=0.009); using angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE) and angiotensin-receptor blockers (ARBs) (p=0.00); with body mass indexes (BMI) above normal (p=0.005); and aged over 45 years (p=0.00) were at higher risk of hospitalization. Using an odds ratio (OR), hypertension (OR=7.1), diabetes mellitus (OR=11.4), heart disease (OR=6.3), angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin-receptor blockers use (OR=10.8), and having a BMI >25 (OR=5) were significant hospitalization risk factors. The seasonal influenza vaccine, smoking, and neuropsychological symptoms showed no significance. CONCLUSION Identifying high-risk groups can help them monitor their health and take preventive measures against COVID-19 infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Since the outbreak of COVID-19, data on its psychosocial predictors are limited. We therefore aimed to explore psychosocial predictors of COVID-19 infection at the UK Biobank (UKB). METHODS This was a prospective cohort study conducted among UKB participants. RESULTS The sample size was N = 104 201, out of which 14 852 (14.3%) had a positive COVID-19 test. The whole sample analysis showed significant interactions between sex and several predictor variables. Among females, absence of college/university degree [odds ratio (OR) 1.55, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.45-1.66] and socioeconomic deprivation (OR 1.16 95% CI 1.11-1.21) were associated with higher odds of COVID-19 infection, while history of psychiatric consultation (OR 0.85 95% CI 0.77-0.94) with lower odds. Among males, absence of college/university degree (OR 1.56, 95% CI 1.45-1.68) and socioeconomic deprivation (OR 1.12, 95% CI 1.07-1.16) were associated with higher odds, while loneliness (OR 0.87, 95% CI 0.78-0.97), irritability (OR 0.91, 95% CI 0.83-0.99) and history of psychiatric consultation (OR 0.85, 95% CI 0.75-0.97) were associated with lower odds. CONCLUSION Sociodemographic factors predicted the odds of COVID-19 infection equally among male and female participants, while psychological factors had differential impacts.

Abstract
Background and Aims Extended hospitalization due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is associated with residual musculoskeletal and functional deficits lasting even 6 months after discharge; therefore, it is crucial that post-hospitalized patients are promptly assessed. The aim of this study was to identify post-COVID-19 patients' functional status and quality of life, as well as to investigate their inter-relatedness 2-3 weeks after hospital discharge. Methods The study included 39 post-COVID-19 patients previously hospitalized in the Clinic for Infectious Diseases at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK) from August to December 2021. Physiotherapeutic assessment encompassed socio-demographic and clinical data including Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) for physical functional performance, hand grip strength, 6-min Walk Test (6MWT) for aerobic capacity and endurance, EuroQol 5-Dimension 5-Level (EQ-5D-5L) for quality of life, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain, Borg CR10 for dyspnea, peripheral oxygen saturation and heart rate. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression analysis were utilized for data processing. Results The median (interquartile range [IQR]) for Borg CR10, VAS pain scale, total SPPB, grip strength, and 6MWT were 1 (0-3), 3 (1-6), 9 (8-10), 30.5 (23.2-43.5) kg, 344.5 (312.7-381.7) m respectively, while the mean (SD) for EQ-5D-5L index value was 0.7 (0.2). The strongest and most significant correlation was depicted between SPPB total score and its subscales, followed by correlation with EQ-5D-5L (r = 0.719, p < 0.001), grip strength (r = 0.612 p < 0.001), Borg CR10 (r = -0.515, p = 0.001), 6MWT (r = 0.416, p = 0.02), and VAS scale (r = -0.343, p = 0.03). Using the multiple regression analysis, the grip strength, Borg-CR10, and 6MWT were found to be strongly predictive of SPPB total score. Conclusion In post-COVID-19 patients' functional status and quality of life were impaired 2-3 weeks following hospitalization. SPPB showed the most frequent and significant correlation with other variables, hence it should be considered as one of the primary screening tools.

Abstract
To evaluate clinical characteristics and identify risk factors associated with severe outcomes in outpatients infected with the Omicron subvariant BF.7, data were collected from outpatients diagnosed with Corona Virus Disease 2019 from December 19, 2022 to January 5, 2023. Clinical characteristics were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify factors associated with serious outcomes. Variables with a p < 0.10 in the univariate analysis were included in the multivariate model. Our study analyzed 770 patients, of whom 380 (49.4%) were male, with a median age of 59. The most common symptoms reported were cough (71.2%), fever (64.7%), and sore throat (37.7%). Fever lasted an average of 5.93 ± 3.37 days for the general population and 10.64 ± 7.12 days for impaired-immunity patients. Most cases were mild (68.7%), followed by moderate (27.1%). Severe cases accounted for 2.2%, with 0.5% critically ill. Serious outcomes occurred in 4.2% of cases, with 11 deaths during follow-up. Underlying-diseases patients had a higher rate of serious outcomes. Factors associated with serious outcomes included receiving a three-dose vaccination (odds ratio [OR] = 0.324, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.113-0.932, p = 0.037), male gender (OR = 2.890, 95% CI: 1.107-7.548, p = 0.030), age (OR = 1.060, 95% CI: 1.024-1.097, p = 0.001), and chest tightness or dyspnea at the time of visit (OR = 4.861, 95% CI: 2.054-11.507, p < 0.001). Our study found that cough, fever, and sore throat were the most common symptoms reported by patients. Receiving a three-dose vaccination was protective, while male gender, age, and chest tightness or dyspnea were identified as risk factors for serious outcomes.

Abstract
Background & Objective Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), resulting in a worldwide pandemic. The first case of COVID-19 was reported from Wuhan in the Hubei Province of China in December 2019; however, the disease's origin is still mysterious. Whole-genome sequence analysis is essential for monitoring the spread of infectious diseases as well as studying the pathogenesis and evolution of viruses. In this study, analysis of 198 fully sequenced genomes from Iran and West Asia was carried out to study mutations, phylogeny, amino acid changes, clades, and lineages of these genomes as well as comparison of these sequences with those of reference Wuhan genome of NC_045512.2. Methods In total, 198 completely sequenced genome data from Iran and West Asia were collected from GenBank. Mutation detection was carried out using a trial version of CLC Genomics Workbench v.21.0 (QIAGEN, Germany). Online tools such as GISAID Mutations App and Pangolin were used for further analysis of the results. Results In this study, several unique mutation sites were identified in the Iranian genomes (n = 8); positions 1397 G>A and 29742 G>T were the most frequent changes in more than 85% of the Iranian genomes. Mutation rate, mutation per sequence, and transition versus transversion for the Iranian genomes included 4.73, 14.14, and 1.6, respectively. Generally, C>T alteration was the most common substitution in all the sequences. Conclusion The ORF1ab, N, and S were the genes with the most changes. The current data can help researchers predict future epidemics and establish better strategies to control viral pandemics.

Abstract
Background The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic caused enormous adverse socioeconomic impacts worldwide. Evidence suggests that the diagnostic accuracy of clinical features of COVID-19 may vary among different populations. Methods We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, and the WHO Global Health Library for studies evaluating the accuracy of clinical features to predict and prognosticate COVID-19. We used the National Institutes of Health Quality Assessment Tool to evaluate the risk of bias, and the random-effects approach to obtain pooled prevalence, sensitivity, specificity, and likelihood ratios. Results Among the 189 included studies (53 659 patients), fever, cough, diarrhoea, dyspnoea, and fatigue were the most reported predictors. In the later stage of the pandemic, the sensitivity in predicting COVID-19 of fever and cough decreased, while the sensitivity of other symptoms, including sputum production, sore throat, myalgia, fatigue, dyspnoea, headache, and diarrhoea, increased. A combination of fever, cough, fatigue, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus increases the odds of having a COVID-19 diagnosis in patients with a positive test (positive likelihood ratio (PLR) = 3.06)) and decreases the odds in those with a negative test (negative likelihood ratio (NLR) = 0.59)). A combination of fever, cough, sputum production, myalgia, fatigue, and dyspnea had a PLR = 10.44 and an NLR = 0.16 in predicting severe COVID-19. Further updating the umbrella review (1092 studies, including 3 342 969 patients) revealed the different prevalence of symptoms in different stages of the pandemic. Conclusions Understanding the possible different distributions of predictors is essential for screening for potential COVID-19 infection and severe outcomes. Understanding that the prevalence of symptoms may change with time is important to developing a prediction model.

Abstract
Background Oseltamivir has been used as adjunctive therapy in the management of patients with COVID-19. However, the evidence about using oseltamivir in critically ill patients with severe COVID-19 remains scarce. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of oseltamivir in critically ill patients with COVID-19. Methods This multicenter, retrospective cohort study includes critically ill adult patients with COVID-19 admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Patients were categorized into two groups based on oseltamivir use within 48 hours of ICU admission (Oseltamivir vs. Control). The primary endpoint was viral load clearance. Results A total of 226 patients were matched into two groups based on their propensity score. The time to COVID-19 viral load clearance was shorter in patients who received oseltamivir (11 vs. 16 days, p = 0.042; beta coefficient: -0.84, 95%CI: (-1.33, 0.34), p = 0.0009). Mechanical ventilation (MV) duration was also shorter in patients who received oseltamivir (6.5 vs. 8.5 days, p = 0.02; beta coefficient: -0.27, 95% CI: [-0.55,0.02], P = 0.06). In addition, patients who received oseltamivir had lower odds of hospital/ventilator-acquired pneumonia (OR:0.49, 95% CI:(0.283,0.861), p = 0.01). On the other hand, there were no significant differences between the groups in the 30-day and in-hospital mortality. Conclusion Oseltamivir was associated with faster viral clearance and shorter MV duration without safety concerns in critically ill COVID-19 patients.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has been sweeping across the globe as a pandemic. Based on a retrospective analysis of SARS data from worldwide, it is summarized that the fungal co-infections associated with global COVID-19 might be missed or misdiagnosed. Along with, we report case series of fungal infections in the maxilla and in the orbit, who were successfully treated for covid-19 and are on regular follow-up.

BACKGROUND COVID-19 manifests with huge heterogeneity in susceptibility and severity outcomes. UK Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups have demonstrated disproportionate burdens. Some variability remains unexplained, suggesting potential genetic contribution. Polygenic Risk Scores (PRS) can determine genetic predisposition to disease based on Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) within the genome. COVID-19 PRS analyses within non-European samples are extremely limited. We applied a multi-ethnic PRS to a UK-based cohort to understand genetic contribution to COVID-19 variability. METHODS We constructed two PRS for susceptibility and severity outcomes based on leading risk-variants from the COVID-19 Host Genetics Initiative. Scores were applied to 447,382 participants from the UK-Biobank. Associations with COVID-19 outcomes were assessed using binary logistic regression and discriminative power was validated using incremental area under receiver operating curve (ΔAUC). Variance explained was compared between ethnic groups via incremental pseudo-R2 (ΔR2). RESULTS Compared to those at low genetic risk, those at high risk had a significantly greater risk of severe COVID-19 for White (odds ratio [OR] 1.57, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.42-1.74), Asian (OR 2.88, 95% CI 1.63-5.09) and Black (OR 1.98, 95% CI 1.11-3.53) ethnic groups. Severity PRS performed best within Asian (ΔAUC 0.9%, ΔR2 0.98%) and Black (ΔAUC 0.6%, ΔR2 0.61%) cohorts. For susceptibility, higher genetic risk was significantly associated with COVID-19 infection risk for the White cohort (OR 1.31, 95% CI 1.26-1.36), but not for Black or Asian groups. CONCLUSIONS Significant associations between PRS and COVID-19 outcomes were elicited, establishing a genetic basis for variability in COVID-19. PRS showed utility in identifying high-risk individuals. The multi-ethnic approach allowed applicability of PRS to diverse populations, with the severity model performing well within Black and Asian cohorts. Further studies with larger sample sizes of non-White samples are required to increase statistical power and better assess impacts within BAME populations.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic reshaped every aspect of life, including food safety. Understanding food safety behaviour at home is necessary for developing effective strategies to mitigate foodborne disease during and after this pandemic. This study administered a cross-sectional survey among 503 domestic food handlers to examine the food handlers' food safety concerns during the pandemic and pandemic-related knowledge and hygiene behaviour (PRKHB) in Bangladesh. The results found that only 35.8% of respondents in this study were more concerned about food safety because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the results found a good PRKHB among 95.8% of urban food handlers, overall, 62% showed a poor level of PRKHB. Only 38.8% reported washing their hands after returning home or preparing meals every time. The regression model found that food safety concerns positively related to the PRKHB, and participants who lived in rural areas had a negative association with the PRKHB. The study also explored sociodemographic variations and significant differences observed between urban and rural areas. Meticulous educational campaigns and targeted messages to the food handlers on food safety risks, food handling practices and hand hygiene are necessary to minimise the foodborne disease burden in this region.

Abstract
Background: The world has been suffering from the Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic since the end of 2019. The COVID-19-infected patients differ in the severity of the infection and the treatment response. Several studies have been conducted to explore the factors that affect the severity of COVID-19 infection. One of these factors is the polymorphism of the angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2) and the type 2 transmembrane serine protease (TMPRSS2) genes since these two proteins have a role in the entry of the virus into the cell. Also, the ACE-1 regulates the ACE-2 expression, so it is speculated to influence the COVID-19 severity. Objective: This study investigates the relationship between the ACE-1, ACE-2, and TMPRSS2 genes single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) and the COVID-19 disease severity, treatment response, need for hospitalization, and ICU admission in Egyptian patients. Patients and Methods: The current study is an observational prospective, cohort study, in which 109 total COVID-19 patients and 20 healthy volunteers were enrolled. Of those 109 patients, 51 patients were infected with the non-severe disease and were treated in an outpatient setting, and 58 suffered from severe disease and required hospitalization and were admitted to the ICU. All 109 COVID-19 patients received the treatment according to the Egyptian treatment protocol. Results: Genotypes and allele frequencies among severe and non-severe patients were determined for ACE-1 rs4343, TMPRSS2 rs12329760, and ACE-2 rs908004. The GG genotype and the wild allele of the ACE-2 rs908004 and the mutant allele of the ACE-1 rs4343 were significantly more predominant in severe patients. In contrast, no significant association existed between the TMPRSS2 rs12329760 genotypes or alleles and the disease severity. Conclusion: The results of this study show that the ACE-1 and ACE-2 SNPs can be used as severity predictors for COVID-19 infection since also they have an effect on length of hospitalization.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 vary greatly in their disease severity, ranging from asymptomatic infection to severe disease. The regulation of gene expression is an important mechanism in the host immune response and can modulate the outcome of the disease. miRNAs play important roles in post-transcriptional regulation with consequences on downstream molecular and cellular host immune response processes. The nature and magnitude of miRNA perturbations associated with blood phenotypes and intensive care unit (ICU) admission in COVID-19 are poorly understood. RESULTS We combined multi-omics profiling-genotyping, miRNA and RNA expression, measured at the time of hospital admission soon after the onset of COVID-19 symptoms-with phenotypes from electronic health records to understand how miRNA expression contributes to variation in disease severity in a diverse cohort of 259 unvaccinated patients in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. We analyzed 62 clinical variables and expression levels of 632 miRNAs measured at admission and identified 97 miRNAs associated with 8 blood phenotypes significantly associated with later ICU admission. Integrative miRNA-mRNA cross-correlation analysis identified multiple miRNA-mRNA-blood endophenotype associations and revealed the effect of miR-143-3p on neutrophil count mediated by the expression of its target gene BCL2. We report 168 significant cis-miRNA expression quantitative trait loci, 57 of which implicate miRNAs associated with either ICU admission or a blood endophenotype. CONCLUSIONS This systems genetics study has given rise to a genomic picture of the architecture of whole blood miRNAs in unvaccinated COVID-19 patients and pinpoints post-transcriptional regulation as a potential mechanism that impacts blood traits underlying COVID-19 severity. The results also highlight the impact of host genetic regulatory control of miRNA expression in early stages of COVID-19 disease.

Abstract
Objective This study aims to explore the prevalence of anosmia and dysgeusia and their impact on COVID-19 patients. Methods This is a cross-sectional study. Patients diagnosed with COVID-19 between 1st October 2020 and 30th June 2021 were randomly selected from a national COVID-19 registry. COVID-19 cases were diagnosed using molecular testing method which measured the viral E gene. The Anosmia Reporting Tool, and a brief version of the questionnaire on olfactory disorders were used to measure the outcomes via telephone interviews. Data were analysed using SPSS 27 statistics software. Results A total of 405 COVID-19 adults were included in this study, 220 (54.3%) were males and 185 (45.8%) were females. The mean±SD age of participants was 38.2 ± 11.3 years. Alterations in the sense of smell and taste were reported by 206 (50.9%), and 195 (48.1%) of the patients, respectively. Sex and nationality of participants were significantly associated with anosmia and dysgeusia (p < 0.001) and (p-value=0.001) respectively. Among patients who experienced anosmia and dysgeusia, alterations in eating habits (64.2%), impact on mental wellbeing (38.9%), concerns that the alterations were permanent (35.4%), and physical implications and difficulty performing activities of daily living (34%) were reported. Conclusion Anosmia and dysgeusia are prevalent symptoms of COVID-19 disease, especially among females. Although transient, anosmia and dysgeusia had considerable impact on patient's life. Neuropsychological implications of COVID-19 in acute infection phase and prognosis of anosmia and dysgeusia in COVID-19 are areas for further exploration.

Abstract
The surveillance of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) as the end point of SARS-CoV-2 shed from infected people arise a speculation on transmission of this virus of concern from WWTP in epidemic period. To this end, the present study was developed to comprehensively investigate the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in raw wastewater, effluent and air inhaled by workers and employee in the largest WWTP in Tehran for one-year study period. The monthly raw wastewater, effluent and air samples of WWTP were taken and the SARS-CoV-2 RNA were detected using QIAamp Viral RNA Mini Kit and real-time RT-PCR assay. According to results, the speculation on the presence of SARS-CoV-2 was proved in WWTP by detection this virus in raw wastewater. However, no SARS-CoV-2 was found in both effluent and air of WWTP; this presents the low or no infection for workers and employee in WWTP. Furthermore, further research are needed for detection the SARS-CoV-2 in solid and biomass produced from WWTP processes due to flaks formation, followed by sedimentation in order to better understand the wastewater-based epidemiology and preventive measurement for other epidemics probably encountered in the future.

Abstract
COVID-19 has been an unprecedented challenge that disruptively reshaped societies and brought a massive amount of novel knowledge to the scientific community. However, as this knowledge flood continues surging, researchers have been disadvantaged by not having access to a platform that can quickly synthesize emerging information and link the new knowledge to the latent knowledge foundation. Aiming to fill this gap, we propose a research framework and develop a dashboard that can assist scientists in identifying, retrieving, and understanding COVID-19 knowledge from the ocean of scholarly articles. Incorporating principal component decomposition (PCD), a knowledge mode-based search approach, and hierarchical topic tree (HTT) analysis, the proposed framework profiles the COVID-19 research landscape, retrieves topic-specific latent knowledge foundation, and visualizes knowledge structures. The regularly updated dashboard presents our research results. Addressing 127,971 COVID-19 research papers from PubMed, the PCD topic analysis identifies 35 research hotspots, along with their inner correlations and fluctuating trends. The HTT result segments the global knowledge landscape of COVID-19 into clinical and public health branches and reveals the deeper exploration of those studies. To supplement this analysis, we additionally built a knowledge model from research papers on the topic of vaccination and fetched 92,286 pre-Covid publications as the latent knowledge foundation for reference. The HTT analysis results on the retrieved papers show multiple relevant biomedical disciplines and four future research topics: monoclonal antibody treatments, vaccinations in diabetic patients, vaccine immunity effectiveness and durability, and vaccination-related allergic sensitization.

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) insufficiency is a common enzymatic defect worldwide; it affects over 400 million people and is associated with various disorders. Recent research suggests that G6PD-deficient cells are susceptible to infection by human coronaviruses, as the G6PD enzyme is involved in the metabolism of oxidative stress, which may enhance COVID-19 mortality. This retrospective study aimed to examine the effect of COVID-19 on patients with G6PD deficiency by comparing the laboratory parameters of patients with G6PD enzyme deficiency alone, COVID-19 alone, and those with both COVID-19 and G6PD enzyme deficiency treated at a major Saudi tertiary center. The results indicated significant differences in hematological and biochemical parameters between the three patient groups, indicating that COVID-19 may influence these parameters, and that they could be used to measure the severity of COVID-19 disease. Moreover, this study suggests that patients with G6PD enzyme deficiency may be at higher risk for severe COVID-19 outcomes. Although the study is limited by the lack of a random selection method for group membership, the Kruskal-Wallis H-test was used to statistical assess the data. The study's findings can enhance the understanding of the relation between COVID-19 infected and G6PD-deficiency patients and inform clinical decision making for an improved patient outcome.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the clinical features and infectivity of variant B.1.1.7 among healthy young adults in a military setting. MATERIALS AND METHODS Positive cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in a single military base (March 23, 2020 and February 16, 2021) were included. An epidemiological investigation conducted via phone included questions regarding symptoms, exposure history, smoking status, list of contacts, and recently visited places. Symptoms surveyed included fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, loss of smell or taste, gastrointestinal symptoms (GI), headache, chest pain, and constitutional symptoms. Cases were divided before B.1.1.7 first reported case in Israel (December 23, 2020) (period 1) and after its identification (period 2). Symptom distribution and the risk of a contact to be infected were compared between the periods, using a chi-square test, and a negative binominal regression model, respectively. RESULTS Of 293 confirmed cases, 89 were reported in the first period and 204 in the second. 56.0% were men with a median age of 19.5 years (interquartile range 18.6-20.5). GI symptoms, loss of taste or smell, headache, fever, and chills were more prevalent in the first period (P < .001, P = .026, P = .034, P = .001, and P < .001, respectively), while fatigue was more common in the second period (P = .008). The risk of a contact to be infected was three times higher in the second period (relative risk = 3.562 [2.414-5.258]). CONCLUSION An outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 in young healthy adults, during a period with high national-wide B.1.1.7 variant prevalence, is characterized by decreased prevalence of fever, loss of taste or smell and GI symptoms, increased reports of fatigue, and more infected contacts for each index case.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to identify the areas of application for teledentistry and analyze its effectiveness in orthodontic practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS A total of 233 patients (159 women, 74 men) receiving orthodontic treatment were included. During the COVID-19 restriction period, patients were given teledentistry appointments. During these video conferences, remote orthodontic checkups were performed by one orthodontist, who asked the patients for photos or videos. The applications carried out during the interviews were recorded, classified, and analyzed. In addition, clinical emergency patients were identified. After the teledentistry consultations, two different questionnaires were presented to the patients, depending on their attendance at teledentistry appointments, and the results were statistically evaluated. RESULTS In all, 21.25% of the patients were identified as having clinical emergencies, including injury because of damage from brackets and wires; 10% of them reported bracket breakage; 17.5% were encouraged to use intermaxillary elastics; and 3.75% were in pain. However, 50% of them were found to be unproblematic. A total of 91% of the participants in the survey reported that online checkups were sufficient to understand and resolve their symptoms. However, 28% wanted to communicate with orthodontists by video call or with photos instead of meeting face to face (65.5%) when unexpected problems arose during the COVID-19 pandemic. CONCLUSIONS Teledentistry can be an effective method for motivating patients who are undergoing orthodontic treatments that require cooperation. It is also an effective way of understanding the patients' symptoms and reducing the risk of cross-infection by identifying patients who will require face-to-face emergency treatment during pandemics.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Coronary artery disease (CAD) is considered an independent risk factor for COVID-19. However, no study has specifically examined the clinical manifestations and outcomes of COVID-19 in patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD). METHODS In a retrospective case-control study between 20 March 2020 to 20 May 2020, the medical record of 1611 patients with laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection was reviewed. IHD was defined as a history of an abnormal coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), or chronic stable angina. Demographic data, past medical history, drug history, symptoms, vital signs, laboratory findings, outcome, and death were investigated from medical records. RESULTS 1518 Patients (882 men (58.1%)) with a mean age of 59.3 ± 15.5 years were included in the study. Patients with IHD (n = 300) were significantly less likely to have fever (OR: 0.170, 95% CI: 0.34-0.81, P < 0.001), and chills (OR: 0.74, 95% CI: 0.45-0.91, P < 0.001). Patients with IHD were 1.57 times more likely to have hypoxia (83.3% vs. 76%, OR: 1.57, 95% CI: 1.13-2.19, P = 0.007). There was no significant difference in terms of WBC, platelets, lymphocytes, LDH, AST, ALT, and CRP between the two groups (P > 0.05). After adjusting for demographic characteristics, comorbidities and vital signs, the risk factors for mortality of these patients were older age (OR: 1.04 and 1.07) and cancer (OR: 1.03, and 1.11) in both groups. In addition, in the patients without IHD, diabetes mellitus (OR: 1.50), CKD (OR: 1.21) and chronic respiratory diseases (OR: 1.48) have increased the odds of mortality. In addition, the use of anticoagulants (OR: 2.77) and calcium channel blockers (OR: 2.00) has increased the odds of mortality in two groups. CONCLUSION In comparison with non-IHD, the symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection such as fever, chills and diarrhea were less common among patients with a history of IHD. Also, older age, and comorbidities (including cancer, diabetes mellitus, CKD and chronic obstructive respiratory diseases) have been associated with a higher risk of mortality in patients with IHD. In addition, the use of anticoagulants and calcium channel blockers has increased the chance of death in two groups without and with IHD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In Pakistan, the fourth wave of COVID-19 is causing an increasing number of positive cases. This fourth wave may be a risky aspect of mental health issues for COVID-19 patients. This quantitative study is designed to understand the stigmatization, and panic disorder and to explore the mediating role of death anxiety among patients of COVID-19 during the fourth wave of novel coronavirus. METHODS The study was conducted using a correlational research design. The survey was carried out by utilizing a questionnaire with a convenient sample technique. The sample of the study was comprised of 139 patients with COVID-19. Data were collected through Stigma Scale for Chronic Illnesses (SSCI), The Panic Disorder Severity Scale (PDSS), and Death Anxiety Inventory. RESULTS Results show that stigma is significantly positively related to panic disorder and death anxiety. Furthermore, panic disorder is also significantly positively related to death anxiety. Results also indicate that stigmatization is a significant positive predictor for death anxiety and panic disorder. Moreover, results indicate that death anxiety has a mediating role in the relationship between stigmatization and panic disorder with age and gender as covariates. CONCLUSION This study would be helpful for people around the world to understand this threatening contagious virus so they wouldn't stigmatize infected ones. Additional research is required for the sustainable improvement of anxiety over time.

Abstract
The present study evaluates the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on the water quality of a tropical lake (East Kolkata Wetland or EKW, India) along with seasonal change using Landsat 8 and 9 images of the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform. The research focuses on detecting, monitoring, and predicting water quality in the EKW region using eight parameters-normalized suspended material index (NSMI), suspended particular matter (SPM), total phosphorus (TP), electrical conductivity (EC), chlorophyll-α, floating algae index (FAI), turbidity, Secchi disk depth (SDD), and two water quality indices such as Carlson tropic state index (CTSI) and entropy‑weighted water quality index (EWQI). The results demonstrate that SPM, turbidity, EC, TP, and SDD improved while the FAI and chlorophyll-α increased during the lockdown period due to the stagnation of water as well as a reduction in industrial and anthropogenic pollution. Moreover, the prediction of EWQI using an artificial neural network indicates that the overall water quality will improve more if the lockdown period is sustained for another 3 years. The outcomes of the study will help the stakeholders develop effective regulations and strategies for the timely restoration of lake water quality.

Abstract
The WHO declared coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) a pandemic in March 2020, which was caused by novel coronavirus severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). SARS-CoV-2 made its first entry into the world in November 2019, and the first case was detected in Wuhan, China. Mutations in the SARS-CoV-2 genome distressed life in almost every discipline by the extended production of novel viral variants. In this article, authorized SARS-CoV-2 vaccines including mRNA vaccines, DNA vaccines, subunit vaccines, inactivated virus vaccines, viral vector vaccine, live attenuated virus vaccines and mix and match vaccines will be discussed based on their mechanism, administration, storage, stability, safety and efficacy. The information was collected from various journals via electronic searches including PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar and the WHO platform. This review article includes a brief summary on the pathophysiology, epidemiology, mutant variants and management strategies related to COVID-19. Due to the continuous production and unsatisfactory understanding of novel variants of SARS-CoV-2, it is important to design an effective vaccine along with long-lasting protection against variant strains by eliminating the gaps through practical and theoretical knowledge. Consequently, it is mandatory to update the literature through previous and ongoing trials of vaccines tested among various ethnicities and age groups to gain a better insight into management strategies and combat complications associated with upcoming novel variants of SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, adjustments in patient and visitor traffic were made in hospitals to limit viral exposure. The primary objective of our study was to compare the breastfeeding success of healthy newborns in a maternity ward during the 2020 lockdown period compared with the same period in the previous year. MATERIAL AND METHODS Single-center comparative study based on prospectively collected data. All neonates born alive, from a single pregnancy, and with a gestational age greater than 36 weeks were considered for this study. RESULTS 309 infants born in 2020 and 330 born in 2019 were included. Among women who desired to exclusively breastfeed, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding at discharge from the maternity ward was higher in 2020 than in 2019 (85 vs. 79%; p = 0.078). After logistic regression analysis adjusted for potential confounders (i.e., maternal BMI, parity, mode of delivery, gestational age, and size at birth), study period remained significantly and independently associated with exclusive breastfeeding at discharge (OR [95% CI] = 1.645 [1.005; 2.694]; p = 0.046). Newborns born in 2020 were less likely to have weight loss ≥10% than those born in 2019 (OR [95% CI] = 2.596 [1.148; 5.872]; p = 0.017) but had similar need for phototherapy (p = 0.41). CONCLUSION The success of exclusive breastfeeding during the 2020 lockdown period was increased compared with the same period in 2019.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with significant morbidity and mortality. We reported and compared the clinical and para-clinical findings of immunocompromised and immunocompetent COVID-19 patients in a case-control study at the Imam Khomeini hospital in Tehran, Iran. METHODS In this study, 107 immunocompromised COVID-19 patients were recruited as the case group, and 107 immunocompetent COVID-19 patients as the control group. The participants were matched based on age and sex. The patients' information was retrieved from the hospital records in an information sheet. Associations between clinical and para-clinical findings with the immune status were assessed using bivariate and multivariate analyses. RESULTS The initial pulse rate and recovery time were significantly higher in immunocompromised patients (p < .05). Myalgia, nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, headache, and dizziness were more frequently reported by the control group (p < .05). Regarding the prescribed medications' duration, Sofosbovir was used longer in the case group, while Ribavirin was used longer in the control groups (p < .05). The most common complication in the case group was acute respiratory distress syndrome, although no major complications were observed in the control group. According to the multivariate analysis, recovery time and Lopinavir/Ritonavir (Kaletra) prescription were significantly higher in the immunocompromised compared to the immunocompetent group. CONCLUSION Recovery time was significantly longer in the immunocompromised compared to the immunocompetent group, which emphasizes the necessity of prolonged care in these high-risk patients. Also, it is recommended to investigate the effect of novel therapeutic interventions to reduce the recovery time in addition to improving the prognosis of immunodeficient patients with COVID-19.

Abstract
Background During the COVID-19 pandemic, many patients presented to the emergency department (ED) with features of Influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and with other atypical presentations. This study was done to determine the etiology, co-infections, and clinical profile of patients with ILI. Methods This prospective observational study included all patients presenting to the ED with fever and/or cough, breathing difficulty, sore throat, myalgia, gastrointestinal complaints (abdominal pain/vomiting/diarrhea), loss of taste and altered sensorium or asymptomatic patients who resided in or travelled from containment zones, or those who had contact with COVID-19 positive patients during the first wave of the pandemic between April and August 2020. Respiratory virus screening was done on a subset of COVID-19 patients to determine co-infection. Results During the study period, we recruited 1462 patients with ILI and 857 patients with the non-ILI presentation of confirmed COVID-19 infection. The mean age group of our patient population was 51.4 (SD: 14.9) years with a male predominance (n-1593; 68.7%). The average duration of symptoms was 4.1 (SD: 2.9) days. A sub-analysis to determine an alternate viral etiology was done in 293 (16.4%) ILI patients, where 54 (19.4%) patients had COVID 19 and co-infection with other viruses, of which Adenovirus (n-39; 14.0%) was the most common. The most common symptoms in the ILI-COVID-19 positive group (other than fever and/or cough and/or breathing difficulty) were loss of taste (n-385; 26.3%) and diarrhea (n- 123; 8.4%). Respiratory rate (27.5 (SD: 8.1)/minute: p-value < 0.001) and oxygen saturation (92.1% (SD: 11.2) on room air; p-value < 0.001) in the ILI group were statistically significant. Age more than 60 years (adjusted odds ratio (OR): 4.826 (3.348-6.956); p-value: <0.001), sequential organ function assessment score more than or equal to four (adjusted OR: 5.619 (3.526-8.957); p-value: <0.001), and WHO critical severity score (Adjusted OR: 13.812 (9.656-19.756); p-value: <0.001) were independent predictors of mortality. Conclusion COVID-19 patients were more likely to present with ILI than atypical features. Co-infection with Adenovirus was most common. Age more than 60 years, SOFA score more than or equal to four and WHO critical severity score were independent predictors of mortality.
