Abstract
Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans and polychlorinated biphenyls were measured in the surface sediments of Liangshui River, the second largest drainage river in Beijing, China. The sum concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans and polychlorinated biphenyls ranged from 3.5 to 3019 (mean value: 184) pg g-1 dry weight and from 319 to 5949 (mean value: 1958) pg g-1 dry weight, and the corresponding World Health Organization toxic equivalent quantity values were 0.0011-5.1 pg TEQ g-1 dry weight and 0.0074-1.4 pg TEQ g-1 dry weight, respectively. The spatial distributions of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans and polychlorinated biphenyls showed increasing trends from urban area and development area to suburb. Principal component analysis revealed that polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans contamination in the sediments may originate from pentachlorophenol and sodium pentachlorophenate and municipal solid waste incineration. Regarding polychlorinated biphenyls, the steel industry, combustion processes and usage of some commercial polychlorinated biphenyl products were identified as the major sources. The emission from a former steel plant could be the main contributor to polychlorinated biphenyls in urban areas. The mean value of the total toxic equivalent quantities in the sediment samples exceeded the Canadian interim sediment quality guidelines. Long-term wastewater irrigation increases the load of sediment-bound pollutants in agricultural soil and may pose potential ecological risks to crops and human health.

Abstract
The historical record of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) deposition was reconstructed from the analysis of a dated sediment core collected from a remote area in the northwestern Arabian Gulf not influenced by any point sources of contamination. The sedimentary record showed that PCDD/F concentrations started to increase above pre-industrial background levels in the mid-1960s. This was followed by an exponential increase in concentrations attaining a maximum of 7.5pg/g (dry wt) in the early 1980s and stayed fairly constant thereafter. The homolog profiles in sediments remained fairly consistent throughout the core with PCDD contributing 75% of the ΣPCDD/F concentrations. The homolog profile was dominated by OCDD which contributed approximately 55% of the total dioxins throughout the core. The consistency in the homolog patterns throughout the core suggests that the source of dioxins have remained fairly unchanged throughout the sedimentary record represented by the core.

Abstract
There have been few studies of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) in environmental water because of the large volume of water required for PCDD/Fs analysis. Water quality directly affects aquatic organisms, and little is known about how PCDD/Fs are transported in aquatic environments. PCDD/Fs were analyzed in eight water samples from Dongting Lake, China, which was contaminated with PCDD/Fs because of sodium pentachlorophenate use between the 1960s and the 1980s. The total PCDD/F concentrations in the samples were 36-345 pg L(-1), and the mean was 191 pg L(-1). Octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin was the most abundant PCDD/F congener in every sample, contributing 67-95% of the total 2,3,7,8-chlorinated PCDD/F concentrations. The toxic equivalent (WHO-TEQ) concentrations in the samples were 0.17-0.37 pg L(-1), and the mean was 0.28 pg L(-1), which is higher than the Canadian environmental quality guideline (0.038 pg L(-1) WHO-TEQ for freshwater) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency water quality criterion (0.014 pg L(-1) WHO-TEQ). PCDD/Fs were also determined in six fish species collected from Dongting Lake, to assess the concentrations, accumulation patterns, and potential for toxic effects. The total 2,3,7,8-chlorinated PCDD/F concentrations in the fish samples were 2.2-17.9 pg g(-1) (wet weight), and the dominant congeners were octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-heptachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, 1,2,3,4,7,8-hexachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, and 2,3,4,7,8-pentachlorodibenzofuran. The PCDD/F WHO-TEQs were 0.10-0.92 ww (3.3-65.3l w) pg g(-1) in different species of fish. PCDD/F congener patterns in fish may be affected by food chain biomagnification and the lipid content of the species.

Abstract
Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) were analyzed in 25 background and 80 agricultural soil samples collected from 21 sites in Beijing, China. The levels of PCDD/Fs in the north agricultural soils were low (0.15-0.58 ng international toxic equivalent quantity [I-TEQ]/kg), which were comparable with those of the background soils (0.091-0.35 ng I-TEQ/kg). In the southern agricultural soils, however, concentrations were several times higher (0.27-3.3 ng I-TEQ/kg). Comparison of PCDD/Fs congener compositions between possible sources and samples indicated that agricultural soils in Beijing had not been contaminated by the 3 main PCDD/F contamination sources in China--ferrous and nonferrous metal, waste incineration, and power generation. They had, however, been slightly contaminated by the impurities of some organochlorine pesticides, such as sodium pentachlorophenate, and by open burning of biomass, vehicle exhaust, atmospheric deposition, sediment, and sewage sludge. These results have been supported by the principal components analysis.

Abstract
Spatial and temporal distribution of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) was explored in the Dongting Lake area. The concentrations of total PCDD/Fs ranged from 15.4 to 38.9 pg I-TEQ g(-1) in surface sediments and 0.55 to 38.9 pg I-TEQ g(-1) for sediment core. The vertical distributions of PCDD/Fs in the sediment core reflected the past history of using Na-PCP and the impact of the massive flood events on the distribution of PCDD/Fs to some extent. The sediment still acts as significant PCDD/F sources and they would pose a risk to sensitive species, resulting in the risk for human exposure to PCDD/F.

Abstract
We investigated the occurrence and distribution patterns of 2,3,7,8-substituted polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) in six sediment samples from the Xiangjiang River, Hunan Province, People's Republic of China. Total concentrations of PCDD/Fs ranged from 876 to 497,759 (mean 160,766) ng/kg dw, the highest of which exceeded that have ever been reported for sediment samples. World Health Organization total toxicity equivalent (WHO-TEQ) concentrations in three out of six samples were significantly higher than the guidance level (21.5 ng WHO-TEQ/kg dw) suggested by Canadian Sediment Quality Guideline. A predominance of octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (OCDD) was observed with an average contribution of 90.8% to the total PCDD/F concentrations, while 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-heptachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (HpCDD) was the major contributor to the PCDD/F WHO-TEQ concentrations in most of the sites. Such high levels of OCDD and HpCDD may be attributed to the presence of PCP/PCP-Na pollution, although MB-WW, agricultural straw open burning, and boilers-hazardous wastes were also the potential sources of PCDD/Fs. This is the first report for the concentrations and congener profiles of PCDD/Fs in sediment samples from the Xiangtan, Zhuzhou, and Changsha sections of the Xiangjiang River, providing scientific evidence for establishing priorities to reduce ecological risks posed by PCDD/Fs in the rapidly developing areas of Hunan Province and elsewhere.

Abstract
The concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins/dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) were measured in two sediment cores collected from Jiaozhou Bay. The concentrations of PCDD/Fs, dioxin-like PCBs, and PCNs in the cores were in the range of 2.8-26.3, 7.1-82.4 and 3.9-56.4 pg/g dw, respectively. The depth profiles of total concentrations PCDD/Fs and dioxin-like PCBs were similar in the sediment core J37 inside Jiaozhou Bay, but different from those in the sediment core J94 outside the bay, suggesting the different sources. In both cores Tri-CNs and Tetra-CNs were dominant, similar to the PCNs composition of some Halowax technical products. The maximal PCNs contamination occurred in the mid-1970s (outside the Bay) and early-1990s (inside the Bay). An increase of the indicator CN congeners characteristic for thermal source in the top layers of the sediment core inside the bay indicated that the contribution from the municipal solid waste incineration has been more important in recent years.

Abstract
Surface soils from an industrial base, the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration in central China were analyzed for 2378-substituted polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs). The PCDD/F concentrations ranged from 268 to 7510 pg g(-1) dry weight (dw), 72% of which were above the U.S. guideline value (1000 pg g(-1)). It was found that octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (OCDD) was the most dominant congener accounting for 78.4-99.3% of the total PCDD/Fs, which was consistent with the PCDD/F profiles reported in other Asian countries. It is recommended that the four major sources of PCDD/Fs in the region can be diesel-fuel vehicles, open straw burning, mass burn-water wall (MB-WW), pentachlorophenate (PCP)/PCP-Na and boilers-hazardous waste incineration. This study is one of the few studies with a focus on the PCDD/F pollution in central China, providing evidences for establishing priorities in reduction of ecological risks posed by PCDD/Fs in central China and elsewhere.

Abstract
Pentachlorophenol (PCP) has been widely used for killing snails in areas of China where schistosomiasis is epidemic. With the re-emergence of schistosomiasis, the warranted production and consumption of PCP has inevitably resulted in persistent environmental contamination by it and its impurities, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs). This study aimed to evaluate the contamination status and human burden of PCP and its impurities (PCDD/Fs) in China, considering the previous epidemic and re-emergence of schistosomiasis. We searched studies relevant to PCP occurrence in the environment and in humans in China. Data on snail elimination areas were included to estimate PCP consumption. Relevant publications were analyzed to distinguish PCDD/Fs contamination from PCP usage. PCP contamination was detected ubiquitously in various environmental media and in human samples; environmental levels were generally low, with the exception of some hot spots. In schistosomiasis-epidemic areas, there were significantly higher PCP levels in the environment and in humans than in control areas. Spatial disparities indicated the consistency between serious schistosomiasis epidemic areas and hot spots of PCP contamination. The data suggest an increased trend in PCP contamination of the environment. Specific PCDD/Fs contamination from PCP usage existed even at low environmental levels. The occurrence of PCP in the environment and in humans positively correlated with the epidemic of schistosomiasis. Thyroid-disrupting effects and cancer risk caused by PCP and PCDD/Fs even at low environmental levels in China's schistosomiasis-epidemic areas are of concern.

Abstract
Tissue distribution provides important information regarding the pharmacokinetic behavior of pollutants and is invaluable when analyzing the risk posed to avian species by the exposure to such kind of pollutants. In this study, concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) were determined in muscle, liver, spleen, kidney, stomach, gall bladder, skin, heart, pancreas, intestine and lung tissue extracts of cormorants collected from Dongting Lake, China. Tissue distribution results showed preferential accumulation of PCDD/Fs in both liver and skin. The total concentration of PCDD/Fs ranged from 421 to 5696 pg/g lipid weight. Octachlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin (OCDD) was the predominant congener in all tissues and contributed between 31% and 82% to all 17 PCDD/Fs in different tissues. The liver/muscle ratios progressively increased with the degree of chlorination of PCDDs, except for OCDD. The relative toxic potential of PCDDs and PCDFs in tissues were calculated using the World Health Organization (WHO) Toxic Equivalency Factors (TEFs) for birds. The concentrations of WHO-toxic equivalent in different tissues ranged between 14.8 and 2021 pg/g lipid weight. These results indicated PCDD/Fs may have been bio-accumulated in cormorant via food-web. Furthermore, when compared with studies reported in the literatures, the PCDD/Fs levels in the cormorant collected from Dongting Lake were still relatively high.

Abstract
Twelve bank soil samples from the Dongting Lake area were determined to investigate the concentrations and distributions of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs). The result showed the PCDD/Fs contamination was not only confined to the surface soil, but extended into the subsoil. Total I-TEQ values for all surface soils averaged 30.3 pg/g dw (ranging from 5.53 to 75.6 pg/g dw). There were some differences in the congener profiles among soil, sediment samples and technical product of sodium pentachlorophenate, which could reflect the variety of PCDD/F sources to the environment over time.

Abstract
The contamination status of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the surface sediments of the middle and lower reaches of the Liaohe River, which is one of the most heavily polluted rivers in China, were investigated. The concentrations of PCDD/Fs and PCBs were in the range of 0.24-27.49 ng WHO-TEQ kg(-1) (average value: 3.01 ng WHO-TEQ kg(-1)) and 0.015-0.99 ng WHO-TEQ kg(-1) (average value: 0.33 WHO-TEQ kg(-1)), respectively. For most sediment samples, the pollution levels of PCDD/Fs and PCBs exceeded the interim sediment quality guidelines (ISQGs) established by the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment. The highest level of PCDD/F contamination was found at the Tai'an reach of the Liaohe River, whereas the highest level of PCB contamination was found at the Xinmin reach of the Liaohe River. Principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were applied to the data set of sediment samples and to source-related samples from the literature. The results suggested that, PCDD/F contamination in most sediments of the middle and lower reaches of the Daliao River should mainly originated from the local combustion processes, including coal burning, agricultural straw open burning, iron ore sintering, cement production and secondary Al and Cu metallurgy. For the PCBs, the major source was identified as the usage of technical PCB products, especially Chinese No. 1 PCB.

Abstract
Schistosomiasis has prevailed in some areas of China for a long time. Chinese technical sodium pentachlorophenate (Na-PCP) has been used to control the spread of snail-borne schistosomiasis since the 1960s. Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), impurities contained in the Na-PCP, enter the soil and may accumulate in the food chain. In order to evaluate their potentially harmful effects on local residents, 50 breast milk samples and 20 blood samples were collected in 2004 from residents in the Dongting Lake area, one of China's known schistosomiasis areas. Levels of 17 PCDD/F congeners were measured in all samples, and DNA damage was simultaneously assessed in blood samples. The PCDD/F congener distribution patterns in human tissue samples from the Dongting Lake area were similar to those in Na-PCP, and the octachlorodibenzodioxin (OCDD) congener was predominant in all samples. We also had a primary investigation that the breast milk WHO-TEQ associated with some factors such as: age, dietary habit, body mass index (BMI) and the total menses times. In blood samples, the samples with higher OCDD level had higher DDS (DNA damage score) values than those samples with low OCDD level, which indicated that the higher DNA damage value in general population might be caused directly or indirectly by PCDD/Fs. The results also indicated that the WHO-TEQ values in blood were associated with age (r=0.6, p=0.007).

Abstract
The contamination status of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL-PCBs) was preliminarily investigated in surface sediments collected from the East River during April 2007. The contamination levels of PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs ranged from 2.1 to 9.8 with mean concentration of 4.5 pg WHO(98)-TEQ g(-1) and ranged from 0.042 to 0.45 with mean concentration of 0.19 pg WHO(98)-TEQ g(-1), respectively. All sediments were characterized by the elevated levels of PCDDs, especially OCDD. Higher concentrations of PCDD/Fs were found in the sediments from Guangzhou and Dongguan. Source analysis revealed that PCDD/Fs in the sediments from Guangzhou were mainly from the secondary copper smelters and steel-making plants, and PCDD/Fs in the sediment from Dongguan were mainly from MSWIs. PCP and paper mills were unlikely to be the main sources.

Abstract
Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/F) were analyzed in surface sediments and top soils collected from 30 sites in Daliao River Basin. The concentrations of PCDD/F ranged from 0.28 to 29.01 ng TEQ kg(-1) dw (mean value, 7.45 ng TEQ kg(-1)dw) in sediments, and from 0.31 to 53.05 ng TEQ kg(-1)dw (mean value, 7.00 ng TEQ kg(-1)dw) in soils. PCDD/F pollution in sediments from the mid- and downstream sections of Hun River was found to be relatively heavy, and the levels of PCDD/F contamination in paddy soils were generally higher than those of upland soils. Using multivariate statistical analysis, the PCDD/F homologue and congener profiles of all soil and sediment samples were compared with those of suspected PCDD/F sources. The results showed that, PCDD/F contamination in most sediments of Hun River should mainly originated from the production of organochlorine chemicals, while metal smelting was the important potential source of PCDD/F in the drainage area of Taizi River. PCDD/F contamination in paddy soils should be simultaneously attributed to the polluted water irrigation and the organochlorine pesticide application.

Abstract
The Chinese Government ratified the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) on 25 June 2004. As a party to the Convention, China is preparing its National Implementation Plan (NIP), which must be finished and submitted to the Conference of the Parties before November 11, 2006. The emission inventory and strategy for reducing unintentionally formed products is a very complex and difficult part of the NIP. In this paper, we analyzed the potential sources of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans in China and calculated their possible emissions. We included municipal solid waste incineration, hazardous and medical waste incineration, pulp bleaching, sodium pentachlorophenate production and usage, illegal electrical and electronic waste ("e-waste") recycling, and ferrous and non-ferrous metal production, and prepared a preliminary analysis of dioxin emissions in China. The results show that ferrous metal production (104.2-6648.3g TEQ), non-ferrous metal production (2.6-3389.8 g TEQ), and sodium pentachlorophenate production and usage (120-368.0 g TEQ) should be major potential sources of dioxins and furans. Moreover, municipal solid waste and hazardous and medical waste incineration (35.5 g TEQ) should also be considered high priority sources owing to a rapidly increasing incineration ratio anticipated for the near future.

Abstract
Dongting Lake is the second largest freshwater lake in China. Technical sodium pentachlorophenate (Na-PCP) had been sprayed since 1960s to control the spread of snailborne schistosomiasis up to the middle of 1990s. As one of the by-products of Na-PCP, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) may enter the environment. It has been reported that the concentrations of PCDD/Fs in sediments in Dongting Lake were 130-891 pg I-TEQ g(-1) in 1995. High toxicity of sediment to exposed microorganisms and fish may be risk on environment. In order to determine the present levels of the contamination, eight sediment samples from Dongting Lake were analyzed for PCDD/Fs using HRGC-HRMS. Total I-TEQ values for these samples were at a ranged of 0.7-11 pg g(-1), with a mean value of 4.5 pg g(-1). The results show that PCDD/Fs concentrations of contemporary sediment have declined since 1995. Certain PCDD/F congeners as well as OCDD, typical for Na-PCP, predominated in lake sediment indicating that the using of PCP-Na is the main source of PCDD/Fs in the lake. These variations in levels can reflect changes in PCDD/F sources to the environment over time.

Abstract
Aimed to give a preliminary image of dioxin pollution in China, chemometric analysis was performed to determine background dioxin levels during the period 1994-2002 and potential emission sources. Using principal components analysis (PCA), the congener profiles of 71 sediment samples from rivers, lakes, and sea bays around China were compared with the congener profiles of various known or suspected industrial, residential, and municipal dioxin sources to determine whether the dioxin residues typically found in a broad range of potential environmental sources could explain the presence of these chemicals in China. It was found that the background dioxin levels of China were similar to those of lightly polluted samples from other countries during the period 1994-2002. Primary ferrous ore sintering and secondary lead and aluminum smelters were the major sources of dioxin emission in China. Chloranil and wastewater from chemical plants, sodium pentachlorophenate, and pulp bleaching were also important sources of dioxin emission. Open burning of e-waste as well as diesel-fueled and leaded gas-fueled vehicles were additional possible sources of dioxin. In contrast to other countries, in China, flue gases from incineration of municipal waste, hazardous waste, and medical waste might be minor sources of dioxin emission.

Abstract
Concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs) were determined in eggs of eight avian species collected from Dongting Lake of China to assess residue levels, accumulation patterns, and toxic potential in different avian species. Concentrations of total 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDD/Fs were in the range of 10.8-182pgg(-1) lipid weight. Eggs of great egret and lesser pied kingfisher contained higher levels of PCDD/Fs than eggs of other species, indicating the specific exposure and accumulation of PCDD/Fs relating to feeding habits and the life span. PCDD/Fs congener patterns varied among species. The patterns of PCDD/Fs in the eggs may be influenced by feeding habits, specific elimination, and metabolism. In general, concentrations of PCDDs were higher than those of PCDFs in avian eggs. On basis of lipid weight, total 2,3,7,8-TCDD toxic equivalents (TEQs) calculated based on the WHO TEFs for birds ranged from 2.04 to 42.0pgg(-1); and on basis of wet weight, total WHO-TEQs ranged from 0.19 to 1.59pgg(-1). 2,3,7,8-TCDF, 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF, 2,3,7,8-TCDD, 1,2,3,7,8-PeCDD were the major contributors to TEQ concentration in most avian eggs, whereas 1,2,3,4,7,8-HxCDD also accounted for a major portion of TEQs in eggs of azure-winged magpie. Values of TEQs in avian eggs were lower than toxic threshold values, implying risk reduction and natural restoration of PCDD/Fs contamination in Dongting Lake region.

Abstract
The pollution status of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the sediments of Haihe River, which is the most polluted among the seven largest basins in China, Dagu Drainage River flowing through a chemical industry zone, and two other rivers flowing into Bohai Sea in Tianjin City, China were investigated. The concentrations of PCDD/Fs and PCBs in the sediments from the mainstream of Haihe River were 1.3-26pgI-TEQg(-1) dry weight (dw) and 0.07-0.54pgTEQg(-1)dw, respectively. Heavy PCDD/Fs and PCBs pollution, with 1264pgI-TEQg(-1)dw and 21pgTEQg(-1)dw, was found in sediment from Dagu Drainage River. The congener profiles of PCDD/Fs indicated that the principal contamination source was the production of pentachlorophenol (PCP) or PCP-Na in this area. The correlation between PCDD/Fs or PCBs and total organic matter (TOM) showed that PCDD/Fs or PCBs were independent on TOM.

Abstract
Sediments at 16 sites and muscles of four aquatic species collected in Taihu Lake were analyzed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) by HRGC/HRMS. The concentrations of total PCDD/Fs, PCBs and WHO-TEQ were 120.1-1315.1pg/gdw, 889.7-29747.8pg/gdw, and 0.83-17.72pgTEQ/gdw, respectively in sediments; and those in muscles were 5.49-35.84pg/gww, 1517.10-27647.98pg/gww, and 0.52-3.83pgTEQ/gww respectively. The concentrations of PCDD/Fs and PCBs in the sediments were decreasing gradually along the water flow. The pollution levels were compared with other studies and the possible sources were discussed.

Abstract
Enhancement of biodegradability of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) was studied with new isolated bacterial strains from soil and oxic-sediments contaminated by PCDDs. The results indicated that mono- and di-chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins could be utilized as a sole carbon source and degraded by isolated bacterial strains, but tri-chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin (TrCDD) was hardly degraded. The biodegradability of TrCDD and tetra-chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) by the strain Pseudomonas sp. EE41, a new isolated one, could be enhanced through primary nutrient of co-metabolism of o-dichlorobenzene (o-DCB). In this case, TrCDD (1.2mg/l for 3 weeks) was degraded by 33.1% and the degradation rate enhanced more than 2 fold; also TCDD (0.1 mg/l for 3 weeks) biodegraded by 37.8%. Most highly chlorinated, Penta-, Hexa-, Hepta-, and Octa-chlorinated, dibenzo-p-dioxins (P-CDD, H6, H7-CDD and OCDD) tested in this study could not be degraded while accumulated in bacterial cells.
