Abstract
BACKGROUND Indocyanine green fluorescence imaging (ICG-FI) is increasingly used in laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH). However, its efficacy in enhancing both short- and long-term outcomes in difficult LH for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) compared with traditional white light (WL) LH remains unclear. METHODS This retrospective cohort study analyzed 573 patients who underwent LH between April 2018 and April 2023, stratified by the use of ICG-FI or WL. Propensity score matching (PSM, 1:1) was employed to minimize baseline discrepancies and reduce selection bias. Perioperative outcomes, overall survival (OS), and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were evaluated. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was conducted to compare OS and RFS between groups, and Cox regression models were applied to identify independent prognostic factors. RESULTS Among the 573 patients who underwent LH, 178 were classified as high-difficulty hepatectomies, including 47 patients in the ICG-FI group and 131 in the WL group. After PSM, 78 patients were matched, with 39 patients in each group. In both unmatched and matched cohorts, the ICG-FI group demonstrated significantly lower conversion rates (2.6% vs. 15.4%, P = 0.048), shorter durations of drainage tube placement (7.0 [5.0, 8.0] vs. 7.0 [6.0, 9.5], P = 0.048), fewer severe postoperative complications (2.6% vs. 15.4%, P = 0.048), and reduced postoperative hospital stays (7 [4.5, 9] vs. 8 [7, 10], P = 0.045). Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed significantly improved RFS in the ICG-FI group compared with the WL group (P = 0.021). Independent predictors of RFS included ICG-FI, liver cirrhosis, and the presence of satellite nodules. Independent predictors of OS included LH performed at the expert difficulty level (HR = 2.875, 95% CI: 1.331-6.207, P = 0.007) and R0 resection (HR = 0.142, 95% CI: 0.028-0.734, P = 0.020). CONCLUSIONS ICG-FI demonstrates significant benefits in short-term outcomes and enhances RFS in patients undergoing difficult LH for HCC. However, its impact on OS warrants further validation through large-scale, multicenter prospective studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence has seen extensive application across medical and surgical fields, praised for its real-time navigation capabilities and low toxicity. Initially employed to assess liver function, ICG fluorescence is now integral to liver surgery, aiding in tumor detection, liver segmentation, and the visualization of bile leaks. This study reviews current protocols and ICG fluorescence applications in liver surgery, with a focus on optimizing timing and dosage based on clinical indications. METHODS Following PRISMA guidelines, we systematically reviewed the literature up to 27 January 2024, using PubMed and Medline to identify studies on ICG fluorescence used in liver surgery. A systematic review was performed to evaluate dosage and timing protocols for ICG administration. RESULTS Of 1093 initial articles, 140 studies, covering a total of 3739 patients, were included. The studies primarily addressed tumor detection (40%), liver segmentation (34.6%), and both (21.4%). The most common ICG fluorescence dose for tumor detection was 0.5 mg/kg, with administration occurring from days to weeks pre-surgery. Various near-infrared (NIR) camera systems were utilized, with the PINPOINT system most frequently cited. Tumor detection rates averaged 87.4%, with a 10.5% false-positive rate. Additional applications include the detection of bile leaks, lymph nodes, and vascular and biliary structures. CONCLUSIONS ICG fluorescence imaging has emerged as a valuable tool in liver surgery, enhancing real-time navigation and improving clinical outcomes. Standardizing protocols could further enhance ICG fluorescence efficacy and reliability, benefitting patient care in hepatic surgeries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging technology is increasingly widely used in laparoscopic hepatectomy. However, previous studies have produced conflicting results regarding whether it is truly superior to traditional laparoscopic hepatectomy. This study investigated the clinical effect of laparoscopic hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using ICG imaging technology. METHODS A systematic review and meta-analysis, based on the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis statement, were conducted (PROSPERO: CRD42024532356). A computer search was conducted in databases including CNKI, Wanfang, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science from January 1, 1990, to April 30, 2024. RESULTS A total of 17 articles were included after screening, comprising 4 randomized controlled trials and 13 case-control studies, with 1620 patients in total. Among these, there were 743 cases in the fluorescence laparoscopy group and 877 cases in the non-fluorescence laparoscopy group. Hepatectomy guided by indocyanine green fluorescence navigation significantly reduced operation time (MD = - 23.25, 95% CI: - 36.35 to - 10.15, P = 0.0005), intraoperative blood loss (MD = - 51.04, 95% CI: - 69.52 to - 32.56, P < 0.00001), and intraoperative transfusion rate (OR = 0.43, 95% CI: 0.27 to 0.69, P = 0.0004), while increasing the R0 resection rate (OR = 2.93, 95% CI: 1.73 to 4.96, P < 0.0001) and decreasing the postoperative complication rate (OR = 0.59, 95% CI: 0.43 to 0.82, P = 0.002). However, there was no statistically significant difference in postoperative length of hospital stay (MD = - 0.67, 95% CI: - 1.51 to 0.18, P = 0.12). CONCLUSION In the treatment of HCC, hepatectomy guided by indocyanine green fluorescence navigation demonstrates superior efficacy and safety, its application and promotion are warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intraoperative determination of resection margin and adequate residual liver parenchyma are the key points of hepatectomy for the treatment of liver tumors. Intraoperative ultrasound and indocyanine green fluorescence navigation are the most commonly used methods at present, but the technical barriers limit their promotion. AIM To evaluate the value of the three-dimensional location approach with silk thread (3D-LAST) in precise resection of liver tumors. METHODS From September 2020 to January 2022, 8 patients with liver tumors including hepatocellular carcinoma, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, hilar cholangiocarcinoma, and gastric cancer liver metastasis were included in this study. All patients underwent 3D-LAST in precise resection of liver tumors. RESULTS All patients (8/8, 100%) underwent the operation successfully without any complications. During the mean follow-up of 8.7 months, all patients survived without tumor recurrence. CONCLUSION In conclusion, the 3D-LAST is a safe and effective new method for liver intraoperative navigation, which is practical and easy to promote.

Abstract
Backgrounds/Aims Liver transplantation (LT) is now a critical, life-saving treatment for patients with liver cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. Despite its significant benefits, biliary complications (BCs) continue to be a major cause of postoperative morbidity. This study evaluates the fluorescence intensity (FI) of the common bile duct (CBD) utilizing near-infrared indocyanine green (ICG) imaging, and examines its association with the incidence of BCs within three months post-LT. Methods This investigation analyzed data from nine living donor LT (LDLT) recipients who were administered 0.05 mg/kg of ICG prior to bile duct anastomosis. Real-time perfusion of the CBD was recorded for three minutes using an ICG camera, and FI was quantified using Image J (National Institutes of Health). Key parameters assessed included F max, F1/2 max, T1/2 max, and the slope (F max/T max) to evaluate the fluorescence response. Results BCs occurred in two out of nine patients. These two patients exhibited the longest T1/2 max values, which were linked with lower slope values, implicating a potential relationship between extended T1/2 max, reduced slope, and the occurrence of postoperative BCs. Conclusions The study indicates that ICG fluorescence imaging may serve as an effective tool for assessing bile duct perfusion in LDLT patients. While the data suggest that an extended T1/2 max and lower slope may correlate with an increased risk of BCs, further validation through larger studies is required to confirm the predictive value of ICG fluorescence imaging in this setting.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The in-depth understanding of the fine anatomy of the liver has promoted the development of modern liver surgery. With the rapid popularity of laparoscopic hepatectomy, the membrane structure of the liver and its ability to dissect the intrahepatic and extrahepatic vascular system more conveniently and accurately has been gradually emphasized. OBJECTIVE Exploring the value of extrahepatic sheath dissection of the hepatic pedicle in minimally invasive anatomical hepatectomy with cystic plate approach. This study aims to assess the benefits of integrating the cystic plate approach with real-time guided laparoscopic anatomical hepatectomy, in comparison with conventional laparoscopic anatomical hepatectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS Based on the theory of cystic plate and hepatic portal plate, the authors have pioneered the fluorescence real-time guided cystic plate approach in hepatectomy. The article focuses on the anatomical knowledge and technical difficulties of anatomical hepatectomy with fluoroscopic laparoscopic cystic plate approach and explores the safety and practicality of the cystic plate approach in laparoscopic anatomical hepatectomy. Additionally, a retrospective cohort study was also conducted to compare the operation time, intraoperative blood loss, and postoperative complications between the cystic plate approach and the conventional approach during fluoroscopic laparoscopic hepatectomy. RESULTS A total of 38 patients who met the inclusion criteria underwent laparoscopic hepatectomy between January 2019 and November 2022. No significant disadvantages were found in terms of operation time and intraoperative blood loss during the surgeries. Furthermore, the postoperative indications, including liver function indexes on the first postoperative day, WBC, and the postoperative hospital stay, were also not affected, thus proving the safety of the cystic approach. Importantly, through the cystic plate approach, the target liver pedicle was fully freed, and then the segments to be resected were precisely marked by positive or negative staining, followed by hepatectomy under real-time fluoroscopic guidance. This approach is extremely advantageous in anatomical liver segment resections, especially in right posterior lobe or hemi-hepatectomy, without increasing intraoperative bleeding or postoperative complication rates. CONCLUSION This technique allows for easy and safe freeing of the target liver pedicle using membrane structures, and also allows for precise anatomical hepatectomy in combination with real-time fluoroscopic laparoscopic navigation.

Abstract
Traditional laparoscopic liver cancer resection faces challenges, such as difficulties in tumor localization and accurate marking of liver segments, as well as the inability to provide real-time intraoperative navigation. This approach falls short of meeting the demands for precise and anatomical liver resection. The introduction of fluorescence imaging technology, particularly indocyanine green, has demonstrated significant advantages in visualizing bile ducts, tumor localization, segment staining, microscopic lesion display, margin examination, and lymph node visualization. This technology addresses the inherent limitations of traditional laparoscopy, which lacks direct tactile feedback, and is increasingly becoming the standard in laparoscopic procedures. Guided by fluorescence imaging technology, laparoscopic liver cancer resection is poised to become the predominant technique for liver tumor removal, enhancing the accuracy, safety and efficiency of the procedure.

Abstract
Background. Most of the available evidence on the use of indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence in clinical practice consists of articles published by surgeons of the Asian-Pacific area. We performed a prospective cohort study to assess the patterns of ICG fluorescence in Western hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) counterparts.Methods. From April 2019 to January 2022, a total of 31 consecutive patients who underwent laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) for superficial HCC were enrolled in this prospective study. All patients underwent laparoscopic staging with both laparoscopic ultrasound (LUS) and ICG fluorescence imaging.Results. A total of 38 hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) were enrolled: 23 superficial (surfacing at the liver's Glissonian capsule), 5 exophytic, 5 shallow (<8 mm from the hepatic surface) and 5 deep (>10 mm from the hepatic surface). The detection rate with preoperative imaging (abdominal CT/MRI), LUS, ICG fluorescence and combined modalities (ICG and LUS) was 97.4%, 94.9%, 89.7% and 100%, respectively. The five deep seated lesions underwent ultrasound-guided laparoscopic thermal ablation. The other 33 HCCs were treated with minimally invasive liver resection. Intraoperative ultrasound patterns were registered for each single nodule resected. The ICG fluorescence pattern was classified in two types: total fluorescence (all the tumoral tissue showed strong and homogeneous fluorescence), n = 9/33 (27.3%), and non-total fluorescence (partial and rim fluorescence), n = 24/33 (72.7%). There was a statistical correlation between ICG patterns and grade of differentiation. Almost all lesions with uniform fluorescence pattern were well-differentiated HCCs (G1-G2), while partial and rim-type fluorescence pattern were more common among moderately and poorly differentiated HCCs (G3-G4) (88.9% vs 11.1%, 37.5% vs 62.5%, P = .025, respectively).Conclusions. ICG fluorescence imaging could be used to identify early the grade of HCC, ie intraoperatively, thus influencing the intraoperative treatment.

Abstract
Although Segment 6(Sg6) and Segment 7(Sg7) are two independent units, there are currently no clear anatomical boundary markers between Sg6 and Sg7. This study aimed to identify intersegmental veins (ISV) in the intersegmental plane of Sg6 and Sg7, and evaluate the prevalence of ISV, and its clinical significance in anatomical hepatectomy. We analyzed data from 180 patients undergoing abdominal computed tomography (CT) examination, and simultaneously performed 3D reconstruction models of the liver for each patient. The right posterior portal vein was analyzed and re-typed. Furthermore, the existence of ISV was defined, and prevalence and confluence patterns of ISV were analyzed. The author attempted to apply ISV to laparoscopic S6/S7 segmentectomy. We sorted data from the right posterior portal vein and divided it into six types. The ISV could be identified in 82.2% (148/180) of the patients, which were derived from the right hepatic vein (RHV) (91.9%) and right posterior inferior vein (IRHV) (8.1%). Ten ISV-guided laparoscopic Sg6/Sg7 segmentectomy were successfully carried out, seven patients underwent Sg6 segmentectomy, and three patients underwent Sg7 segmentectomy. There was no perioperative mortality. The median operative time was 223 min (range 181-260 min). The median blood loss was 200 ml (range 150-310 ml). The R0 resection rate was 100%. The ISV may be a candidate vessel to distinguish the boundary of the right posterior sector; it is expected to be a landmark in the liver parenchyma of anatomical hepatectomy.

Abstract
Colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) afflict a significant proportion of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), ranging from 25% to 30% of patients throughout the course of the disease. In recent years, there has been a surge of interest in the application of near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging as an intraoperative imaging technique for liver surgery. The utilisation of NIRF-guided liver surgery, facilitated by the administration of fluorescent dye indocyanine green (ICG), has gained traction in numerous medical institutions worldwide. This innovative approach aims to enhance lesion differentiation and provide valuable guidance for surgical margins. The use of ICG, particularly in minimally invasive surgery, has the potential to improve lesion detection rates, increase the likelihood of achieving R0 resection, and enable anatomically guided resections. However, it is important to acknowledge the limitations of ICG, such as its low specificity. Consequently, there has been a growing demand for the development of tumour-specific fluorescent probes and the advancement of camera systems, which are expected to address these concerns and further refine the accuracy and reliability of intraoperative fluorescence imaging in liver surgery. While NIRF imaging has been extensively studied in patients with CRLM, it is worth noting that a significant proportion of published research has predominantly focused on the detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this study, we present a comprehensive literature review of the existing literature pertaining to intraoperative fluorescence imaging in minimally invasive surgery for CRLM. Moreover, our analysis places specific emphasis on the techniques employed in liver resection using ICG, with a focus on tumour detection in minimal invasive surgery (MIS). Additionally, we delve into recent developments in this field and offer insights into future perspectives for further advancements.

Abstract
Iatrogenic nerve injury is a significant complication in surgery, which can negatively impact patients' quality of life. Currently, the main clinical neuroimaging methods, such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and high-resolution ultrasonography, do not offer precise real-time positioning images for doctors during surgery. The clinical application of optical molecular imaging technology has led to the emergence of new concepts such as optical molecular imaging surgery, targeted surgery, and molecular-guided surgery. These advancements have made it possible to directly visualize surgical target areas, thereby providing a novel method for real-time identification of nerves during surgery planning. Unlike traditional white light imaging, optical molecular imaging technology enables precise positioning and identifies the cation of intraoperative nerves through the presentation of color images. Although a large number of experiments and data support its development, there are few reports on its actual clinical application. This paper summarizes the research results of optical molecular imaging technology and its ability to realize neural visualization. Additionally, it discusses the challenges neural visualization recognition faces and future development opportunities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence played an important role in tumor localization and margin delineation in hepatobiliary surgery. However, the preoperative regimen of ICG administration was still controversial. Factors associated with tumor fluorescence staining effect were unclear. AIM To investigate the preoperative laboratory indexes corelated with ICG fluorescence staining effect and establish a novel laboratory scoring system to screen specifical patients who need ICG dose adjustment. METHODS To investigate the predictive indicators of ICG fluorescence characteristics in patients undergoing laparoscopic hepatectomy from January 2018 to January 2021 were included. Blood laboratory tests were completed within 1 wk before surgery. All patients received 5 mg ICG injection 24 h before surgery for preliminary tumor imaging. ImageJ software was used to measure the fluorescence intensity values of regions of interest. Correlation analysis was used to identify risk factors. A laboratory risk model was established to identify individuals at high risk for high liver background fluorescence. RESULTS There were 110 patients who were enrolled in this study from January 2019 to January 2021. The mean values of fluorescence intensity of liver background (FI-LB), fluorescence intensity of gallbladder, and fluorescence intensity of target area were 18.87 ± 17.06, 54.84 ± 33.29, and 68.56 ± 36.11, respectively. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve showed that FI-LB was a good indicator for liver clearance ability [area under the ROC curve (AUC) = 0.984]. Correlation analysis found pre-operative aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, adenosine deaminase, and lactate dehydrogenase were positively associated with FI-LB and red blood cell, cholinesterase, and were negatively associated with FI-LB. Total laboratory risk score (TLRS) was calculated according to ROC curve (AUC = 0.848, sensitivity = 0.773, specificity = 0.885). When TLRS was greater than 6.5, the liver clearance ability of ICG was considered as poor. CONCLUSION Preoperative laboratory blood indicators can predict hepatic ICG clearance ability. Surgeons can adjust the dose and timing of ICG preoperatively to achieve better liver fluorescent staining.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging technology is increasingly widely used in laparoscopic hepatectomy. However, whether it can provide long-term survival benefits to patients with liver malignancies remains unclear. This study investigated the clinical effect of laparoscopic hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using ICG imaging technology. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed HCC patients who underwent laparoscopic hepatectomy at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University from January 2016 to December 2020. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to match patients undergoing ICG fluorescence navigation laparoscopic hepatectomy (ICG-FNLH) with those undergoing conventional laparoscopic hepatectomy (CLH) in a 1:1 ratio to minimize the influence of confounding factors. We compared perioperative status and long-term prognosis between the two groups and performed multivariate analysis to identify risk factors associated with overall survival and recurrence-free survival. RESULTS The original cohort consisted of 141 patients, with 50 patients in each group (100 patients in total) after PSM. The anatomical liver resection rate, R0 resection rate, and resection margin distance in the ICG-FNLH group were higher than those in the CLH group. The intraoperative blood loss was lower than that in the CLH group. The recurrence-free survival and overall survival of the ICG-FNLH group were better than those of the CLH group. ICG-FNLH improved the recurrence-free survival of HCC patients (hazard ratio [HR] = 2.165, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.136-4.127, P = 0.024). CONCLUSIONS Compared with CLH, ICG-FNLH can improve the recurrence-free survival rate of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and may help to improve the long-term prognosis of patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Although anatomical hepatectomy (AH) is widely used in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the prognosis is still unsatisfactory. The present study aimed to evaluate the survival benefit of adjuvant transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for patients with HCC after AH. METHODS A total of 832 patients were stratified into with adjuvant TACE (443, 53.2%) and without adjuvant TACE group (389, 46.8%) AH. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to control for confounding factors, and multivariable Cox regression was performed to determine the independent risk factors. RESULTS After PSM, the results showed that the adjuvant TACE group had better overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). Among the patients with tumor recurrence, adjuvant TACE was associated with a high rate of early-stage tumor at recurrence, a lower recurrence rate around the frontal margin and extrahepatic metastases, and a higher rate of receiving curative treatment. Multivariable Cox regression analysis showed that adjuvant TACE was an independent prognostic factor for OS (HR 0.673, P = 0.001) and RFS (HR 0.650, P = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Patients with HCC after AH can benefit from postoperative adjuvant TACE. Therefore, adjuvant TACE should be considered for patients with a high risk of recurrence.

A meta-analysis of short-term and long-term effects of indocyanine green fluorescence imaging in hepatectomy for liver cancer. Photodiagnosis Photodyn Ther 2023; 42:103497. Abstract
OBJECTIVES This meta-analysis aimed to compare the short-term and long-term effects of indocyanine green fluorescence imaging in hepatectomy for liver cancer. METHODS The databases PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and major scientific websites were screened up to January 2023. Randomized controlled trials and observational studies comparing fluorescence navigation-assisted and fluorescence-free navigation-assisted hepatectomy for liver cancer were included. Our meta-analysis comprises overall results and 2 subgroup analyses based on surgery type (laparoscopy and laparotomy). These estimates are presented as mean differences (MD) or odds ratio (OR) estimates with 95% CIs. RESULTS We analyzed 16 studies that included 1260 patients with liver cancer. Our results showed that fluorescent navigation-assisted hepatectomy were significantly more shorter than fluorescence-free navigation-assisted hepatectomy in the following parameters: operative time [MD = -16.19; 95% CI: -32.27 to -0.11; p = 0.050], blood loss [MD = -107.90; 95% CI: -160.46 to -55.35; p < 0.001], blood transfusion [OR = 0.5; 95% CI: 0.35 to 0.72; p = 0.0002], hospital stay [MD = -1.60; 95% CI: -2.33 to -0.87; p < 0.001], and postoperative complications [OR = 0.59; 95% CI: 0.42 to 0.82; p = 0.002], The one-year disease-free survival rate [OR = 2.87; 95% CI: 1.64 to 5.02; p = 0.0002] was higher in the fluorescent navigation-assisted hepatectomy group. CONCLUSIONS Indocyanine green fluorescence imaging has good clinical value and can improve the short-term and long-term results of hepatectomy for liver cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recently, indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging has been increasingly used in laparoscopic anatomic liver resection. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of ICG-guided laparoscopic anatomic liver resection in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) compared with traditional laparoscopic anatomic liver resection. METHODS A retrospective study was performed on patients with pathologically diagnosed HCC who successfully underwent laparoscopic anatomical liver resection from January 2019 to December 2021. The outcomes were compared between the two groups before and after the propensity score matching (PSM). RESULTS A total of 110 patients were included in this study, including 50 patients in the ICG-guided group and 60 patients in the traditional group. Compared with the traditional group, the ICG-guided group had a shorter operative duration (P = 0.040), less intraoperative blood loss (P = 0.044), a lower incidence of postoperative complications (P = 0.023), and a shorter postoperative hospitalisation (P < 0.001). After PSM, significant differences remained between the two groups for the duration of postoperative hospitalisation (P = 0.018) and postoperative complications (P = 0.042). There was no significant difference in the recurrence rate between the two groups before and after PSM. CONCLUSION Laparoscopic anatomic liver resection guided by ICG fluorescence imaging can reduce the duration of postoperative hospitalisation for patients and the incidence of postoperative complications. However, it has no impact on the long-term outcome of patients.

Abstract
Liver is an organ having extremely diversified functions, ranging from metabolic and synthetic to detoxification of harmful chemicals. The multifunctionality of the liver in principle requires the multidisciplinary and pluralistic interventions for its management. Several studies have investigated liver function, dysfunction and clinic. This editorial work discusses new ideas, challenges and perspectives of current research regarding multidisciplinary and pluralistic management of liver diseases. In one hand the discussions have carried out on the involvement of extracellular vesicles, Na+/H+ exchangers, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 and Epstein-Barr virus infections, Drug-induced liver injury, sepsis, pregnancy, and food supplements in hepatic disorders. In the other hand this study has discussed hepatocellular carcinoma algorithms and new biochemical and imaging experiments pertaining to liver diseases. Relevant articles with an impact index value "> 0" from reference citation analysis, which is an open multidisciplinary citation analysis database based on artificial intelligence technology, have served for the study's argumentation. This work may be a useful tool for the clinical practice and research in managing and investigating liver disorders.

Abstract
Purpose China has the largest cancer population globally. Surgery is the main choice for most solid cancer patients. Intraoperative fluorescence molecular imaging (FMI) has shown its great potential in assisting surgeons in achieving precise resection. We summarized the typical applications of intraoperative FMI and several new trends to promote the development of precision surgery. Methods The academic database and NIH clinical trial platform were systematically evaluated. We focused on the clinical application of intraoperative FMI in China. Special emphasis was placed on a series of typical studies with new technologies or high-level evidence. The emerging strategy of combining FMI with other modalities was also discussed. Results The clinical applications of clinically approved indocyanine green (ICG), methylene blue (MB), or fluorescein are on the rise in different surgical departments. Intraoperative FMI has achieved precise lesion detection, sentinel lymph node mapping, and lymphangiography for many cancers. Nerve imaging is also exploring to reduce iatrogenic injuries. Through different administration routes, these fluorescent imaging agents provided encouraging results in surgical navigation. Meanwhile, designing new cancer-specific fluorescent tracers is expected to be a promising trend to further improve the surgical outcome. Conclusions Intraoperative FMI is in a rapid development in China. In-depth understanding of cancer-related molecular mechanisms is necessary to achieve precision surgery. Molecular-targeted fluorescent agents and multi-modal imaging techniques might play crucial roles in the era of precision surgery.

Abstract
Background Primary intrahepatic bile duct dilatation can be very harmful to patients although it belongs to benign biliary disease. It can occur in any part of the liver, intraoperative laparoscopic ultrasound (LUS) guidance combine with real-time indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence navigation are the means of choice for accurate surgical resection. Case presentation Herein we reported a 43-year-old female patient presented with repeated right upper abdominal pain and distension for 3 years and aggravated for half a year, without fever and jaundice. A diagnosis of localized bile duct dilatation with lithiasis in segment 4 (S4) was made on the basis of preoperative imaging. Correspondingly, we selected to perform a laparoscopic surgery with LUS guided real time ICG fluorescence imaging (ICG-FI) and navigation to make the operation more simply and accurately, as well as to retain normal tissues in a certain extent. Laparoscopic resection of S4b and partial S4a was successfully performed, without any complications. Conclusion Laparoscopic anatomical surgery for intrahepatic bile duct dilatation is a technically challenging operation. The combined use of preoperative three-dimensional computerized tomography (CT) planning, intraoperative LUS guided super-selection, ICG hepatic segment staining and real-time fluorescence navigation could help surgeons accurately complete the segmentectomy or subsegmentectomy with minimized trauma and maximized liver tissue preservation.
