Abstract
Family risk is inimical to adolescent development. The relationship between cumulative family risk and adolescent depressive symptoms was explored in the current study, with friendship quality examined as a moderator of the relationship. A sample of 595 seventh-grade students was tracked at 10-month intervals. Results suggested that exposure to cumulative family risk predicted adolescents' current and subsequent depressive symptoms, and that there was a linear, additive relationship between cumulative family risk and depressive symptoms. Friendship quality moderated the linear relationship between cumulative family risk and adolescents' current depressive symptoms. It is worth noting that the protective role of friendship quality is limited. The results highlight that the detrimental impact of family risk needs to be recognized and addressed.

Abstract
Prior studies comparing Syrian refugee adolescents to their native peers in the same region have found higher anxiety and lower life satisfaction. Therefore, identifying regulatory variables is crucial for implementing support programs. This study examined the mediating effect of peer relationships and the moderating effect of being a refugee or native adolescent on the relationship between adolescent anxiety and life satisfaction across different samples. Participants and setting: The study included 2,336 adolescents aged 11-19 (M = 14.79, SD = 1.04). Participants completed the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders, Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. The mediation and moderation effects were analyzed with the path analysis codes written on Mplus 8.3. SPSS 26 was used for descriptive statistics and group comparisons. The findings showed that peer relationships mediate adolescent anxiety and life satisfaction, and this relationship is moderated according to whether the participants are native adolescents or refugee adolescents. This study highlights the significant associations between peer relationships, adolescent anxiety, and life satisfaction and the moderating role of the participant identity. The findings may inform psychological interventions to improve Syrian refugee adolescents' mental health and well-being. These findings may also have implications for policies and programs aimed at supporting the integration of Syrian refugee adolescents in host communities.

Abstract
The early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated stay-at-home orders resulted in a stark reduction in daily social interactions for children and adolescents. Given that peer relationships are especially important during this developmental stage, it is crucial to understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on social behavior and risk for psychopathology in children and adolescents. In a longitudinal sample (N=224) of children (7-10y) and adolescents (13-15y) assessed at three strategic time points (before the pandemic, during the initial stay-at-home order period, and six months later after the initial stay-at-home order period was lifted), we examine whether certain social factors protect against increases in stress-related psychopathology during the pandemic, controlling for pre-pandemic symptoms. Youth who reported less in-person and digital socialization, greater social isolation, and less social support had worsened psychopathology during the pandemic. Greater social isolation and decreased digital socialization during the pandemic were associated with greater risk for psychopathology after experiencing pandemic-related stressors. In addition, children, but not adolescents, who maintained some in-person socialization were less likely to develop internalizing symptoms following exposure to pandemic-related stressors. We identify social factors that promote well-being and resilience in youth during this societal event.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The offspring of parents with Anxiety Disorders (AD) are at high risk for different types of psychopathology, including AD. However, little is known about how parental anxiety during pregnancy and/or the postnatal period might result in alterations in behavior or neurodevelopmental changes in offspring. To examine the effect of parental AD on offspring behavior and neurodevelopment, we conducted a systematic review. METHODS Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched the Web of Science, PubMed, and PsycINFO databases. RESULTS Forty-seven articles met the inclusion criteria for the systematic review. Prenatal maternal anxiety is related to negative temperament, increased attention to fearful vocalizations, decreased alertness, and impaired psychomotor and cognitive development in early and middle childhood. AD during the postnatal period is associated with greater negative temperament, internalizing symptoms, and anxiety symptoms in early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence. CONCLUSION Our review is the first to demonstrate that prenatal and postnatal AD symptoms impact offspring. Future research should explore the mediating and moderating factors leading to the development of psychopathology in the offspring of parents with AD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is being increasingly recognized as a prominent mental health concern, especially among adolescents. In psychiatric clinical samples, its incidence is high and difficult to identify. However, few studies have explored the NSSI behavior of psychiatric hospitalized adolescents. This study aimed to explore the influencing factors of NSSI according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-5) in adolescents admitted to the psychiatric department. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, by convenient sampling, a total of 505 psychiatric adolescent inpatients aged 10-19 years completed questionnaires to record details of sociodemographic characteristics, the NSSI questionnaire, the Child Psychological Abuse and Neglect Scale (CPANS), the self-report version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (self-report SDQ), the Coping Style Scale for Middle School Students (CSSMSS), which were compared between NSSI inpatients and non-NSSI inpatients. This study used the diagnostic criteria for NSSI disorder in DSM-5: adolescent patients who have NSSI behaviors for more than 5 times in the past 1 year are called NSSI. A multiple logistic regression model was built to explore the relationships among general information, CPANS, SDQ, CSSMSS, and NSSI. Risk for NSSI is quantified by odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS The results showed that 77.82% (n=393) of adolescent inpatients had NSSI, and 80.0% were female (n=404). NSSI adolescent inpatients experienced more family scolding, psychological abuse, and neglect and showed more positive attitudes toward NSSI than non-NSSI adolescent inpatients. However, after controlling for covariables, the difference disappeared. NSSI behavior was significantly associated with female (OR =2.391, 95% CI: 1.396-4.097, P=0.002), younger age (10-14 years old) (OR =1.876, 95% CI: 1.154-3.049, P=0.011), have close friends (OR =0.355, 95% CI: 0.164-0.768, P=0.008), peer discussion about self-injury (OR =1.977, 95% CI: 1.047-3.734, P=0.036), emotional and behavioral difficulties (OR =1.853, 95% CI: 1.054-3.258, P=0.032), problem-oriented coping styles (OR =0.968, 95% CI: 0.945-0.991, P=0.007), emotion-oriented coping styles (OR =1.035, 95% CI: 1.006-41.064, P=0.016). CONCLUSIONS Measures should be taken to prevent and reduce the occurrence of NSSI behaviors among hospitalized adolescents in psychiatric department, which include improving adolescents' attitude towards NSSI, reducing adolescents' gathering behavior in the ward, preventing adolescents from discussing NSSI through social media, improving their coping style when facing difficulties, and reasonably regulating their abnormal emotions and behaviors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Emotional neglect is a risk factor for adolescents' depression. In migrant families, long-term parent-child separation increases the possibility of left-behind adolescents experiencing emotional neglect, making it an important risk factor for the occurrence and development of depressive symptoms among left-behind adolescents. Moreover, there has been a dearth of work on protective factors against the harmful impacts of emotional neglect on left-behind adolescents' depressive symptoms. To address this gap, the protective roles of friendship quality and gender differences were also examined. METHODS A total of 1802 Chinese rural adolescents completed self-report standardized scales that measured emotional neglect, friendship quality and depressive symptoms. RESULTS Emotional neglect was positively associated with adolescents' depressive symptoms, but the predictive power of emotional neglect for depressive symptoms varied with left-behind status and gender. Furthermore, friendship quality was not only negatively associated with adolescents' depressive symptoms, but also buffered the negative impact of emotional neglect on depressive symptoms among girls from both-parent migrant families. LIMITATIONS This study was limited by the cross-sectional data, the methods of self-reporting, the lack of adolescents from mother-only families, and a potential nesting structure. CONCLUSIONS These findings provide important implications for intervention programs that are targeted toward reducing the impact of emotional neglect on left-behind adolescents.

Abstract
Maternal internalizing symptoms have been linked with child internalizing symptoms, but paternal internalizing difficulties have received little attention. Our aims were to prospectively analyse the simultaneous effect of maternal and paternal internalizing symptoms on child internalizing difficulties, examining gender differences, and to verify the mediating effect of parenting practices and child irritability. The sample included 470 families assessed at child ages 3, 6, 8, and 11. Multi-group structural equation modelling was performed with Mplus8.2. Complete equivalence was found between boys and girls for all paths. Maternal internalizing symptoms at age 3 had an indirect effect on child internalizing symptoms at age 11, via irritability at age 8. Paternal internalizing symptoms at age 3 were not associated with any of the variables under study. Maternal internalizing symptoms and child irritability are targets for intervention in order to prevent child internalizing difficulties.

Abstract
Adolescence is a period of dramatic developmental transitions-from puberty-related changes in hormones, bodies, and brains to an increasingly complex social world. The concurrent increase in the onset of many mental disorders has prompted the search for key developmental processes that drive changes in risk for psychopathology during this period of life. Hormonal surges and consequent physical maturation linked to pubertal development in adolescence are thought to affect multiple aspects of brain development, social cognition, and peer relations, each of which have also demonstrated associations with risk for mood and anxiety disorders. These puberty-related effects may combine with other nonpubertal influences on brain maturation to transform adolescents' social perception and experiences, which in turn continue to shape both mental health and brain development through transactional processes. In this review, we focus on pubertal, neural, and social changes across the duration of adolescence that are known or thought to be related to adolescent-emergent disorders, specifically depression, anxiety, and deliberate self-harm (nonsuicidal self-injury). We propose a theoretical model in which social processes (both social cognition and peer relations) are critical to understanding the way in which pubertal development drives neural and psychological changes that produce potential mental health vulnerabilities, particularly (but not exclusively) in adolescent girls.
