Abstract
Pincer type coumarin based N-substituted semicarbazone ligands HL1-4 and their corresponding ruthenium(II) complexes (1-4) were synthesized, analyzed and confirmed by various spectro analytical techniques. The molecular structure of the ligand HL3 and complex 3 was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The stoichiometry of complexes 1, 2 and 4 was confirmed by high resolution mass spectroscopy (HRMS). The binding affinity of the compounds with CT-DNA (Calf Thymus DNA) and BSA (Bovine Serum Albumin) was established by absorption and emission titration methods. The results of In vitro cytotoxicity showed the significant cytotoxic potential of the complexes against MDA-MB-231 cells (TNBC- Triple-negative breast cancer). Among the complexes, 1 and 4 have shown appreciable results. Further, antimigratory activity against the MDA-MB-231 cells was studied for the complexes 1 and 4. The percentage cell cycle arrest, apoptosis and necrosis were explored by flow cytometry. The in vivo anti-tumor activity of the complexes 1 and 4 using C. elegans as model organism was established by using the tumoral C. elegans strain JK1466 (gld-1(q485)), which bears a mutation in the gld-1 tumor suppressor gene. We have determined the effect of our complexes on tumor gonad reduction and found to be non toxic to the JK1466 worms and they have prolonged their mean lifespan with potential antioxidant ability by overcoming stress responses. Overall, our study reported herein demonstrated that the complexes 1 and 4 could be established as potential metallo-drugs substantiating further exploration.

Abstract
The interaction mechanism between a scarcely soluble copper(II) complex of Cu(II)-6-hydroxychromone-3-carbaldehyde-(3'-hydroxy)benzoylhydrazone (CuCHz) in aqueous solution and its DMβCD complex was studied in the presence of ctDNA through spectroscopy and thermodynamic methods. The thermodynamic results indicate that the binding process of the CuCHz-DMβCD inclusion complex is a spontaneous process and the inclusion is enthalpy-driven. The binding constants of CuCHz and CuCHz-DMβCD with ctDNA are 2.69 × 103 and 14.7 × 103 L mol-1, respectively. The stoichiometry of the complex is 1:1, and the determined thermodynamic indicates that the process of binding is spontaneous and entropy-driven. A competitive binding titration with ethidium bromide revealed that CuCHz efficiently displaces EB from the EB-DNA system. In addition to the thermal denaturation experiments and docking studies, we can confirm that the mode of binding of this complex to ctDNA is intercalation mode. The presence of DMβCD enhances the aqueous solubility of CuCHz; nevertheless, the cyclodextrin did not affect the interaction of CuCHz with ctDNA because the inclusion complex breaks down when it binds with ctDNA.

Abstract
The focus of the present work is on the design, synthesis, characterization, DNA-interaction, photo-cleavage, radical scavenging, in-vitro cytotoxicity, antimicrobial, docking and kinetic studies of Cu (II), Cd (II), Ce (IV) and Zr (IV) metal complexes of an imine derivative, 3 - (1 - (6 - methoxybenzo [d] thiazol - 2 - ylimino) ethyl) - 6 - methyl - 3H - pyran - 2, 4 - dione. The investigation of metal ligand interactions for the determination of composition of metal complexes, corresponding kinetic studies and antioxidant activity in solution was carried out by spectrophotometric methods. The synthesized metal complexes were characterized by EDX analysis, Mass, IR, (1)H-NMR, (13)C-NMR and UV-Visible spectra. DNA binding studies of metal complexes with Calf thymus (CT) DNA were carried out at room temperature by employing UV-Vis electron absorption, fluorescence emission and viscosity measurement techniques. The results revealed that these complexes interact with DNA through intercalation. The results of in vitro antibacterial studies showed the enhanced activity of chelating agent in metal chelated form and thus inferring scope for further development of new therapeutic drugs. Cell viability experiments indicated that all complexes showed significant dose dependent cytotoxicity in selected cell lines. The molecular modeling and docking studies were carried out with energy minimized structures of metal complexes to identify the receptor to metal interactions.

Abstract
A novel ternary complex, Tb(2)L4 · L'·(ClO4)6 · 8H2O, has been synthesized using bis(benzylsulfinyl)methane as the first ligand L and 2,2'-dipyridyl as the second ligand L'. The ternary complex was characterized by element analysis, molar conductivity, coordination titration analysis, infrared, thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimetric and ultraviolet spectra. The results indicated that the composition of the complex was Tb2 L4 · L'·(ClO4)6 · 8H2O (L = C(6)H(5)CH(2) SOCH(2)SOCH(2)C(6)H(5); L' = Dipy). Fourier transform infrared results revealed that the perchlorate group was bonded with the Tb(III) ion by the oxygen atom, and the coordination was bidentate. The fluorescent spectra illustrated that the complex displayed characteristic fluorescence in the solid state. After the introduction of the second ligand, 2,2-dipyridyl, the relative emission intensity and fluorescence lifetime of the ternary complex Tb(2)L(4) · L'·(ClO(4))(6) · 8H2O were enhanced compared to the binary complex TbL(2.5)(ClO4)3 · 3H2O. This indicated that the presence of both organic ligand bis(benzylsulfinyl)methane and the second ligand 2,2-dipyridyl could sensitize the fluorescence intensity of Tb(III) ion, and introduction of the 2,2-dipyridyl group resulted in an enhancement of the fluorescence of the Tb(III) ternary rare earth complex. The strongest characteristic fluorescence emission intensity of the ternary complex was 9.36 times that of the binary complex. The phosphorescence spectra and fluorescence lifetime of the complex were also measured.

Abstract
A series of new substituted 3-formyl chromone derivatives (4-6) were synthesized by one step reaction methodology by knoevenagel condensation, structurally similar to known bisintercalators. The new compounds were characterized by IR, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, MS and analytical data. The in vitro DNA binding profile of compounds (4-6) was carried out by absorption, fluorescence and viscosity measurements. It was found that synthesized compounds, especially compound 6 (evident from binding constant value) bind strongly with calf thymus DNA, presumably via an intercalation mode. Additionally, molecular docking studies of compounds (4-6) were carried out with B-DNA (PDBID: 1BNA) which revealed that partial intercalative mode of mechanism is operational in synthesized compounds (4-6) with CT-DNA. The binding constants evaluated from fluorescence spectroscopy of compounds with CT-DNA follows the order compound 6>compound 5>compound 4. All the compounds (4-6) were screened for acetylcholinesterase inhibition assay. It can be inferred from data, that compound (6) showed potent AChE inhibition having IC50=0.27μM, almost in vicinity to reference drug Tacrine (IC50=0.19μM).

Abstract
A tridentate ONS donor ligand, HL, was synthesized by the condensation of 2-aminochromone-3-carboxaldehyde with thiosemicarbazide. The structure of the ligand was elucidated by elemental analyses, IR, (1)H and (13)C NMR, electronic and mass spectra. Reaction of the ligand with several copper(II) salts, including AcO(-), NO3(-), SO4(2-), Cl(-), Br(-) and ClO4(-) afforded different metal complexes that reflect the non-coordinating or weakly coordinating power of the ClO4(-) and Br(-) anions as compared to the strongly coordinating power of AcO(-), SO4(2-), Cl(-) and NO3(-) anions. Also, the ligand was allowed to react with Cu(II) ion in the presence of a secondary ligand (L') [N,O-donor; 8-hydroxyquinoline or N,N-donor; 1,10-phenanthroline]. Characterization and structure elucidation of the prepared complexes were achieved by elemental and thermal analyses, IR, electronic, mass and EPR spectra as well as conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The EPR spin Hamiltonian parameters of some complexes were calculated. The metal complexes exhibited octahedral and square planar geometrical arrangements depending on the nature of the anion. The ligand and most of its metal complexes showed antibacterial activity towards Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis), Gram-negative bacteria (Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli), yeast (Candida albicans) and fungus (Aspergillus fumigatus).

Abstract
Cyanobacterial fructose-1,6-/sedoheptulose-1,7-bisphoshatase (Cy-FBP/SBPase) is an important target enzyme for finding inhibitors to solve harmful algal bloom (HAB). In this study, as potential inhibitors of Cy-FBP/SBPase, a series of novel chromone-connecting benzohydrazone compounds (Novel N'-((4-oxo-4H-chromen-3-yl)methylene)benzohydrazide) were designed and synthesized. Their inhibitory activities against Cy-FBP/SBPase were further examined in vitro. Some of these compounds, such as f6-f8, f11, f12 and f16, exhibit higher inhibitory activities (IC50=11.2-16.1 μM), especially, the compound f7 was identified as the most potent inhibitor with IC50 value of 11.2 μM. The probable binding-mode of compound f7 was further analyzed carefully by molecular docking methods. These results indicate that compound f7 could be used as a lead compound for further optimization and might have potential to be developed as a new algicide.

Abstract
Novel chiral Schiff base ligands (R)/(S)-2-amino-3-(((1-hydroxypropan-2-yl)imino)methyl)-4H-chromen-4-one (L(1) and L(2)) derived from 2-amino-3-formylchromone and (R/S)-2-amino-1-propanol and their Cu(II)/Zn(II) complexes (R1, S1, R2, and S2) were synthesized. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared (IR), hydrogen ((1) H) and carbon ((13)C) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), electrospray ionization-mass spectra (ESI-MS), and molar conductance measurements. The DNA binding studies of the complexes with calf thymus were carried out by employing different biophysical methods and molecular docking studies that revealed that complexes R1 and S1 prefers the guanine-cytosine-rich region, whereas R2 and prefers the adenine-thymine residues in the major groove of DNA. The relative trend in K(b) values followed the order R1>S1>R2>S2. This observation together with the findings of circular dichroic and fluorescence studies revealed maximal potential of (R)-enantiomeric form of complexes to bind DNA. Furthermore, the absorption studies with mononucleotides were also monitored to examine the base-specific interactions of the complexes that revealed a higher propensity of Cu(II) complexes for guanosine-5'-monophosphate disodium salt, whereas Zn(II) complexes preferentially bind to thymidine-5'-monophosphate disodium salt. The cleavage activity of R1 and R2 with pBR322 plasmid DNA was examined by gel electrophoresis that revealed that they are good DNA cleavage agents; nevertheless, R1 proved to show better DNA cleavage ability. Topoisomerase II inhibitory activity of complex R1 revealed that the complex inhibits topoisomerase II catalytic activity at a very low concentration (25 μM). Furthermore, in vitro antitumor activity of complexes R1 and S1 were screened against human carcinoma cell lines of different histological origin.

Abstract
A novel ternary complex, TbL(5) L'(ClO(4))(3) · 3H(2)O, two binary complexes, TbL(7) (ClO(4))(3) · 3H(2)O and TbL'(3.5) (ClO(4))(3) · 4H(2)O has been synthesized (using diphenyl sulphoxide as the first ligand L, bipyridine as the second ligand L'). Their composition was analysed by element analysis, coordination titration, IR spectra and (1) H-NMR, and the fluorescence emission mechanism, fluorescence intensities and phosphorescence spectra were also investigated by comparison. It was shown that the ternary rare-earth complex showed stronger fluorescence intensities than the binary rare-earth complexes in such material. The strongest characteristic fluorescence emission intensity of the ternary system was 8.23 times, 3.58 times as strong as that of the binary systems TbL(7) (ClO(4))(3) · 3H(2)O and TbL'(3.5) (ClO(4))(3) · 4H(2)O, respectively. By fluorescence analysis it was found that both diphenyl sulphoxide and bipyridine could sensitize the fluorescence intensities of rare-earth ions. In particular, in the ternary rare-earth complex, introduction of bipyridine was of benefit to the fluorescence properties of Tb(III).

Abstract
New Schiff base ligand L derived from the condensation reaction of 2-amino-3-formylchromone with (R)-2-amino-2-phenylethanol was synthesized and characterized which involves combination element of ammine functionality and naturally occurring heterocyclic chromone, 4H-benzopyran-4-one. Subsequently, their complexes 1 and 2 with Cu(NO₃)₂ and Zn(NO₃)₂, respectively were prepared. The DNA binding studies of the ligand L and complexes 1 and 2 with CT-DNA as compared to classical anticancer drug cisplatin were carried out by employing different optical methods viz, UV-vis, fluorescence, circular dichroism and viscosity measurements. Furthermore, the absorption studies, ¹H and ³¹P with mononucleotides were also monitored to examine the base specific interactions of the transition metal complexes which revealed a higher propensity of copper(II) complex 1 for 5'-GMP while for zinc(II) complex 2 towards 5'-TMP involving groove binding mechanism of the complexes towards DNA. The complex 1 exhibits a remarkable DNA cleavage activity with pBR322 DNA in presence of different activators and cleavage reaction involves various oxygen species suggesting the involvement of active oxygen species for the DNA scission.
