Abstract
In this work, mixed ligand Cu(II) complexes containing hydrazone and bipyridine ligands (CB1-CB5), or hydrazone and phenanthroline ligands (CP1-CP5) have been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and analytical techniques. Single crystal X-ray structure of complex CB1 revealed that two nitrogen atoms from bipyridine, one carbonyl oxygen, one azomethine nitrogen and one hydroxyl oxygen from the hydrazone ligand coordinated to Cu(II) ion, adopting a distorted square pyramidal geometry. Interaction of these complexes with calf thymus (CT) DNA and bovine serum albumin (BSA) was analyzed by absorption and emission studies. Further, the in vitro anticancer activity of the complexes was investigated exclusively against the breast cancer cells namely MCF7, T47D and MDA MB 231, and a normal breast MCF 10a cell line. The phenanthroline bearing complexes (CP1-CP5) displayed better activity than their bipyridine counterparts as seen from the IC50 values. In addition, the most active complex CP1 having an IC50 value of 5.8 ± 0.3 μM against T47D cancer cells was investigated for its mode of cell death through acridine orange/ethidium bromide(AO/EB), 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) and Annexin-V fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) staining assays which revealed apoptosis. Lastly, the cell cycle analysis revealed that complex CP1 induced cell death in T47D cancer cells at the G0/G1 phase.

Abstract
The two synthesis of Schiff base SB (Indole-3-carboxalidene-1-phenylsemicarbazide) and organophosphorus Schiff base OPSB (Indole-3-carboxalidene diphenylphosphate-1-phenylsemicarbazide) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV–Vis and XRD. A series of complexes of the type [M(SB)2Cl2].2H2O and [M(OPSB)Cl.(H2O)2].Cl, where M = Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) have been synthesized and the chemical structures of them were established by magnetic susceptibility, conductance measurements, elemental analyses, IR, UV–Vis. These results suggest that the metal complexes have octahedral geometry. X-ray powder diffraction analysis of ligands and SB complexes indicate that they are crystalline in nature and within nano range. The molecular docking of [Co(OPSB)Cl.(H2O)2].Cl is discussed using MOE software to understand the binding pattern of the investigated compound towards target proteins Bacillus subtilis (PDB ID: 2RHL), Staphylococcus aureus (PDB ID: 4URM), Escherichia coli (PDB ID: 4PRV), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PDB ID: 4JVI). All compounds have been evaluated for their antimicrobial. The ligands and OPSB complexes showed high antioxidant activity.

Abstract
Benzoimidazolphenylethanamine (BPE) was synthesized through the condensation reaction
of 1,2-phenyldiamine and L-phenylalanine. The new complexes were prepared from the reaction of 6-
amino-N,N-dimethyluracil (ADU), benzoimidazolphenylethanamine and Cadmium (II), Tin (II), Copper
(II) and Nickel (II) metal respectively. All new hybrid complexes were fully characterized by spectroscopic
data of FTIR, UV-Visible electronic absorption, thermal analysis, X-ray powder diffraction
studies and mass spectroscopy. Spectra analyses of the hybrid metal complexes showed the tetrahedral
coordination of the ligands to the metal ions via the nitrogen atoms. The in vitro antibacterial activities
of the hybrid complexes were assayed against four bacterial isolates namely, Micrococcus luteus,
Staphylococcus aureus as Gram-positive bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli as
Gram-negative bacteria using the agar well diffusion method. Most of the tested isolates were sensitive
to most metal hybrid complexes. The drug-likeness and bioactivity properties were calculated using
Molinspiration Cheminformatics software.

Abstract
In the present work, tenoxicam (H2Ten) reacted with Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn (II) ions in the presence of 1.10-phenthroline (Phen), forming new mixed ligand metal complexes. The properties of the formed complexes were depicted by elemental analyses, infrared, electronic spectra, proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), mass spectrometry, thermogravimetric (TGA) and differential thermogravimetric (DTG) analysis, molar conductance and magnetic moment. IR spectra demonstrated that H2Ten acted as a neutral bidentate ligand, coordinated to the metal ions via the pyridine-N and carbonyl group of the amide moiety, and Phen through the nitrogen atoms. Kinetic thermodynamics parameters activation energy (E*), enthalpy of activation (ΔH*), entropy of activation (ΔS*), Gibbs, free energy (ΔG*) associated to the complexes have been evaluated. Antibacterial screening of the compounds was carried out in vitro against Clavibacter michiganensis, Xanthomonas campestris and Bacillus megaterium. Antifungal activity was performed in vitro against Monilinia fructicola, Penicillium digitatum and Colletotrichum acutatum. The possible phytotoxic effect of the studied compounds was also investigated on Solanum lycopersicum (tomatoes) and Lepidium sativum (garden cress) seeds. The anticancer activity was screened against cell cultures of HCT-116 (human colorectal carcinoma), HepG2 (human hepatocellular carcinoma) and MCF-7 (human breast adenocarcinoma).

Abstract
The current study aimed to synthesize new metal coordination complexes with potential biomedical applications. Metal complexes were prepared via the reaction of isatin-N(4)anti- pyrinethiosemicarbazone ligand 1 with Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), and Fe(III) ions. The obtained metal complexes 2-12 were characterized using elemental, spectral (1H-NMR, EPR, Mass, IR, UV-Vis) and thermal (TGA) techniques, as well as magnetic moment and molar conductance measurements. In addition, their geometries were studied using EPR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. To evaluate the in vivo anti-cancer activities of these complexes, the ligand 1 and its metal complexes 2, 7 and 9 were tested against solid tumors. The solid tumors were induced by subcutaneous (SC) injection of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cells in mice. The impact of the selected complexes on the reduction of tumor volume was determined. Also, the expression levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and cysteine aspartyl-specific protease-7 (caspase-7) in tumor and liver tissues of mice bearing EAC tumor were determined. Moreover, their effects on alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), albumin, and glucose levels were measured. The results revealed that the tested compounds, especially complex 9, reduced tumor volume, inhibited the expression of VEGF, and induced the expression of caspase-7. Additionally, they restored the levels of ALT, AST, albumin, and glucose close to their normal levels. Taken together, our newly synthesized metal complexes are promising anti-cancer agents against solid tumors induced by EAC cells as supported by the inhibition of VEGF and induction of caspase-7.

Abstract
New mixed Fe(III) and Zn(II) complexes with isonitrosoacetophenone (HINAP) and l-amino acids (such as l-histidine, l-phenylalanine and l-proline) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, UV-Vis, IR and ESR spectroscopy and thermal analyses. The values of molar conductance of the complexes in DMSO solution at 10-3 M concentration indicate their non-electrolyte nature. IR spectroscopy has revealed the coordination of deprotonated ligands to metal through nitrogen and oxygen atoms in an N2O2 arrangement. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed using the hybrid functional of Truhlar and Zhao (M06) with basis set of double zeta quality LANL2DZ to evaluate the cis and trans coordination modes and to ascertain dipole moment, HOMO-LUMO energy gap, chemical hardness, softness and electrophilicity. The magnetic moments and ESR measurements suggest that there is an admixture of S = 5/2 and S = 1/2 spins in Fe(III) complexes. UV-Visible spectra indicate a distorted octahedral geometry around the metal ions. Thermal analyses show the presence of hydrated and coordinated water. The antimicrobial activity was investigated against (G+ and G-) bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and fungi (Candida albicans). The iron and zinc complexes were found to be more active against Gram-positive than Gram negative bacteria. They also show considerable growth inhibition against the fungi tested. In vitro antitumor activity assayed against cancer cell lines of the HEP2 type (cancer cells of the larynx) exhibited significant toxicity of the ligands and their mixed complexes.

Abstract
Novel metal(II) complexes derived from 2-hydroxy-N'-((Z)-3-(hydroxyimino)-4-oxopentan-2-ylidene)benzohydrazide ligand (H2L) were synthesized and characterized by elemental and thermal analyses (DTA and TGA), IR, UV-VIS, (1)H-NMR, ESR and mass spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibilities, and conductivities measurements. The complexes adopt distorted octahedral geometry. The ESR spectra of the solid copper(II) complexes are characteristic to d(9) configuration and have an axial symmetry type of a d(x (2)-y (2)) ground state. The g values confirmed the tetragonal octahedral geometry with a considerably ionic or covalent environment. The cytotoxic activity of the ligand and its metal complexes showed potent cytotoxicity effect against growth of human liver cancer HepG2 cell lines compared to the clinically used Sorafenib (Nexavar).

Abstract
Different types of complexes derived from the reactions of N-methylisatin Girard's T hydrazone, N,N,N-trimethyl-2-[(2z)-2-(1-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-3H-indole-3-ylidene) hydrazino]-2-oxo-ethan ammonium chloride (MIGT) and N-methylisatin Girard's P hydrazone, 1-{2-(2z)-2-[(1-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-3H-indole-3-ylidene) hydrazino]-2-oxoethyl}pyridinium chloride (MIGP) with Fe(3+), Al(3+), Sb(3+) and Sn(2+) salts were synthesized. The isolated complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductivities, spectral (IR, UV-Vis., (1)H NMR, mass), magnetic moments and thermal measurements. The values of conductance suggest that the complexes are conducting in polar solvents (EtOH, H2O and DMF). The IR spectra suggest that the ligands coordinate in a bidentate and/or tridentate manner via the carbonyl groups of both N-methylisatin and Girard's T and/or P and the (CN) group. The solvents inside and outside the coordination sphere were determined by weight loss and TGA methods. The octahedral geometry of the complexes is confirmed using spectral, magnetic and DFT method from DMOL(3) calculations. The ligands and their metal complexes were tested against different strains of bacteria and fungi.

Abstract
Ternary copper(II) and binary copper(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes derived from 4,4'-((4-nitro-1,2-phenylene)bis(azanylylidene))bis(3-(hydroxyimino)pentan-2-one) (H2L) were synthesized and characterized by elemental and thermal analyses, IR, UV-Vis. and (1)H NMR spectroscopy, conductivity and magnetic moments measurements. The analytical and spectral data showed that, the ligand acts as dibasic tetradentate or dibasic hexadentate bonding to the metal ion via the two-imine nitrogen, two nitrogen and/or oximato oxygen atoms of deprotonated oxime groups forming five and/or six rings including the metal ions. The complexes adopt either tetragonal distorted octahedral or square planar geometry around metal ions. The ESR spectra of the solid copper(II) complexes are characteristic to d(9) configuration and having an axial symmetry type of a d(x2-y2) ground state. The g values confirmed the geometry is elongated tetragonal octahedral geometry with considerably ionic or covalent environment. The antifungal biological activity of the prepared compounds was studied using well diffusion method. The obtained results showed that, the ligand is biologically inactive while its metal complexes were more potent fungicides than the ligand and standard antifungal drug (Amphotericin B).

Abstract
Reaction of Cr(III), Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) ion with 2,4-dihydrazino-thioamido-1-ethoxybutane led to the formation of mono and binuclear complexes. These complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-Vis spectra, magnetic moments, molar conductances, (1)H NMR and mass spectra (ligand and its Zn(II) complex), thermal analyses (DTA and TGA) and ESR measurements. The IR data suggest the involvement of sulfur and azomethane nitrogen atoms in coordination to the central metal ion .The Molar conductances of the complexes in DMF are commensurate with their non-ionic character. The ESR spectra of Cu(II) complexes show axial type symmetry (d(x2-y2)) ground state with covalent bond character. On the basis of spectral studies, octahedral or tetrahedral geometry has been assigned to the metal complexes. Complexes have been tested invitro against tumor cells and number of microorganisms in order to assess their antitumor and antimicrobial properties.

Abstract
Synthesis and characterization of some new Schiff base ligands derived from various diamines and nitrosalicylaldehyde and their complexes of Ni(II) and Cu(II) are reported. Several spectral techniques such as UV-Vis, FT-IR, and NMR spectra were used to identify the chemical structures of the reported ligands and their complexes. The ligands are found to be bound to the metal atom through the oxygen atoms of the hydroxyl groups and nitrogen atoms of imine groups, which is also supported by spectroscopic techniques. The results obtained by FT-IR and NMR showed that the Schiff base complexes of transition metal (II) have square-planar geometry.

Abstract
In the present study, a new hydrazone ligand (2-((2-phthalazin-1-yl)hydrazono)methyl)phenol) prepared by condensation of hydralazine (1-Hydralazinophthalazine) with salicylaldehyde (SAH). The synthesized SAH-hydrazone and its metal complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, (1)H NMR, solid reflectance, magnetic moment, molar conductance, mass spectra, UV-vis and thermal analysis (TGA). The analytical data of the complexes show the formation of 1:1 [M:L] ratio, where M represents Ni(II), Co(II) and Cu(II) ions, while L represents the deprotonated hydrazone ligand. IR spectra show that SAH is coordinated to the metal ions in a tridentate manner through phthalazine-N, azomethine-N and phenolic-oxygen groups. The ligand and their metal chelates have been screened for their antimicrobial activities using the disc diffusion method against the selected bacteria and fungi. Proton-ligand association constants of (SAH) and the stepwise stability constants of its metal complexes are determined potentiometrically in 0.1 M NaNO(3) at different temperatures and the corresponding thermodynamic parameters were derived and discussed. The order of -ΔG° and -ΔH° were found to obey Mn(2+)<Co(2+)<Ni(2+)<Cu(2+), in accordance with the Irving-Williams order. The complexes were stabilized by enthalpy changes and the results suggest that the complexation is an enthalpy-driven process. The concentration distribution diagrams of the complexes are evaluated.

Abstract
The tetradentate Schiff bases hydrazone ligands HL(1), HL(2) and their metal complexes have been prepared and characterized by analytical, spectral (IR, UV-vis, (1)H NMR and ESR), molar conductivity, magnetic and TGA measurements. The results show that all the metal complexes are non-electrolytes, except (2, 10 and 20) which have ionic nature. The ligands coordinate in keto-neutral form and act as bidentate or tridentate for all metal complexes, except complexes (4 and 12). The ligands react as monobasic tetradentate and tridentate for complexes (4 and 12), respectively. Octahedral/tetrahedral Co(II) and Ni(II), octahedral/square planar Cu(II), and octahedral Mn(II), Fe(III), Cr(III), Ru(III), Hf(IV) and Zr(IV)O geometries were proposed. The ESR spectra of copper complexes (12 and 14) indicate d(x2-y2) ground state with covalent bond character. The thermal decomposition and the types of crystallized water for some metal complexes were studied. The studied metal complexes are very weakly active against the tested microorganisms.

The ESR spectra of solid complexes [(L)(HL)Cu2(OAc)], [Cu(HL)(H2L)(NO3)] and [CuCl (HL)(H2L)].H2O at room temperature show axial symmetry with covalent bond character, and complex [FeCl2(HL)(H2O)] has gav = 4.38, indicating a high spin (5/2) iron(III) complex. However, complexes [(HL)Mn2Cl3(H2O)4] and [RuCl2(HL)(H2O)].H2O have isotropic spectra consistent with octahedral structure. The antifungal and antibacterial activities of the ligand and its complexes were investigated.

Abstract
A new series of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Cr(III), Fe(III) and Cu(I) complexes of 4-methylphenylaminoacetoisatin hydrazone (HL) have been prepared and characterised The IR spectral data of the complexes indicate neutral bidentate, neutral tridentate or monobasic tridentate behaviour of the ligand depending on the metal ion. The ESR spectra of the complexes [Cu(OAc) (L)].0.5H2O, [CuCl(L)].0.5H2O, [Cr(Cl)(OH)2(HL)].0.5H2O, Co(NO3)2[(HL)2].2.5H2O and [(HL)(Mn)3(Cl)4(OH)2(H2O)6].H2O, are isotropic. However, those of [Cu(NO3)(L)].2.5H2O and [Cu(SO4)(H2O)(HL)], are anisotropic with ionic bond characters. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of the compounds show that some metal complexes exhibit a greater inhibitory effect than tetracycline (bacteria) and amphotricine (fungi).

Abstract
A new series of Mn(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Cu(ll) complexes derived from diacetylmonoxime and 2-, 4- and 6-aminobenzoic acids have been prepared and characterised by elemental and thermal analyses (DTA, DTG and TG) as well as 1H and 13C NMR, IR, UV-Vis., Mass and ESR spectra, magnetic susceptibility and conductance measurements. The IR spectral data show that the ligands behave as mono- or di-basic, bis-, tri-, or tetradentate-chelates towards the metal ion. The stability of the complexes is achieved via intra- and inter-molecular hydrogen bonding of the OH-group with the oximato-oxygen atom or oxygen atom of a carboxylic group, giving polymeric networks in the solid state. Molar conductances in DMF solution indicate that the complexes are non-electrolytes. The ESR spectra of solid complexes [Co (HL1)21.2H2O (4), [Mn(HL1)2].H2O (5), [Mn(HL2)2(H2O)2].H2O (10), [Cu2(HL3)2(OAc)2(H2O)4] (12) and [(Mn)3 (L3)2(OAc)2(H2O)6].4H2O (15) at room temperature and 77 K, are isotropic, however, the copper(ll) complexes [Cu(HL1)(OAc)(H2O)2}2] (2) and [Cu(HL2)2(H2O)2].H2O (7) are non-axial and axial (dx2-y2) respectively with covalent bond character. The metal complexes exhibit greater inhibitory effects than tetracycline (bacteria) and amphotricen (fungi).

Abstract
Cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), zinc(II) and hafnium(IV) complexes of furan-2-carbaldehyde 4-methoxy-N-anilinoacetohydrazone were synthesized and characterized by elemental and thermal (TG and DTA) analyses, IR, UV-vis and (1)H NMR spectra as well as magnetic moment and molar conductivity. Mononuclear complexes are obtained with 1:1 molar ratio except complexes 3 and 9 which are obtained with 1:2 molar ratios. The IR spectra of ligand and metal complexes reveal various modes of chelation. The ligand behaves as a neutral bidentate one and coordination occurs via the carbonyl oxygen atom and azomethine nitrogen atom. The ligand behaves also as a monobasic tridentate one and coordination occurs through the enolic oxygen atom, azomethine nitrogen atom and the oxygen atom of furan ring. Moreover, the ligand behaves as a neutral tridentate and coordination occurs via the carbonyl oxygen, azomethine nitrogen and furan oxygen atoms as well as a monobasic bidentate and coordination occurs via the enolic oxygen atom and azomethine nitrogen atom. The electronic spectra and magnetic moment measurements reveal that all complexes possess octahedral geometry except the copper complex 10 possesses a square planar geometry. The thermal studies showed the type of water molecules involved in metal complexes as well as the thermal decomposition of some metal complexes.

Abstract
A new series of mono and binuclear Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), La(III), Ru(III), Hf(IV), ZrO(II) and UO2(II) complexes of phenylaminodibenzoylhydrazone have been synthesized and characterized by elementals analyses, IR UV-vis spectra, magnetic moments, conductances, thermal analyses (DTA and TGA) and electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements. The IR spectral data show that, the ligand behaves as a neutral bidentate type (15 and 16), monobasic bidentate type (6), or monobasic tridentate type (5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17-21) or dibasic tridentate type 2-4, 9 and 12 towards the metal ion. Molar conductances in DMF solution indicate that, the complexes are non-electrolytes. The ESR spectra of solid complexes (9 and 10) show axial and non-axial types indicating a d(x2-y2) ground state with significant covalent bond character. However, complexes (11 and 12), show isotropic type, indicating manganese(II) octahedral geometry. Antibacterial and antifungal tests of the ligand and its metal complexes are also carried out and it has been observed that the complexes are more potent bactericides and fungicides than the ligand.
