Abstract
Carbon dots (CDs) were highly promised nanomaterials for application in food analysis, owing to their exceptional optical properties, superior photostability, and negligible biological toxicity. N-doped CDs (NCDs) were synthesized via a straightforward hydrothermal method utilizing folic acid as only one precursor material. NCDs exhibited deep blue fluorescence under an ultraviolet lamp with a quantum yield (QY) of 14.54 %. In the presence of arginine (Arg), there was a noticeable redshift of 10 nm in the maximum emission wavelength of NCDs, accompanied by fluorescence transition from dark blue to bright blue. The QY of NCDs was 16.71 % in the presence of Arg. In other words, NCDs showed aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) in the presence of Arg. The fluorescence enhancement exhibited a strong linear correlation with Arg concentration within the range of 0-300 μM, and the limit of detection was 0.31 μM. Furthermore, to facilitate Arg detection, a portable Arg sensor was developed using a polyvinyl alcohol membrane-assisted design. The sensor demonstrated satisfactory performance in detecting Arg in real samples. These findings highlighted the versatile capabilities of NCDs with AIEE properties, paving the way for their potential applications in food analysis.

Abstract
Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) has emerged as a predominant, highly sensitive, and homogeneous optical analytical technique in the realm of analytical testing and bio-imaging. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) demonstrate a size-dependent, broader absorption range within visible wavelengths owing to the phenomenon of surface plasmon resonance. As a result, they can effectively act as light acceptors, enabling the creation of a donor-acceptor system crucial for achieving precise target analyte analysis. In this comprehensive review, we present an extensive survey of recent research advancements in the field of FRET techniques based on AuNPs for the analytical detection of a wide range of entities, including some biomolecules, pesticides, enzymes, microorganisms, food safety and environmental pollutants. Additionally, we elucidate the procedural strategies and underlying mechanisms involved. Finally, we provide perspectives on the current issues and future efforts surrounding the FRET applications of AuNPs in biological analysis. Overall, this review aims to provide a holistic comprehension of gold nanoparticle applications in life analysis using FRET, while also presenting a promising vision for future endeavors in this domain.

Abstract
Fluorescence can be enhanced or quenched depending on the distance between the surface of a metal nanoparticle and the fluorophore molecule. Fluorescence enhancement by nearby metal particles is called metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF). MEF shows promising potential in the field of fluorescence-based biological sensing. MEF-based biosensor systems generally fall into two platform categories: (1) a two/three-dimensional scaffold, or (2) a colloidal suspension. This review briefly summarizes the application studies using wavelength-dependent carbon dots (UV-VIS), noble metals (VIS), and upconversion nanoparticles (NIR to VIS), representative nanomaterials that contribute to the enhancement of fluorescence through the resonance energy transfer modulation and then presents a perspective on this topic.

Abstract
The widespread use of antibiotics caused severe problems of antibiotic residues in foodstuffs and water, posing a serious threat to public health and thus urging the development of sensitive, selective, and rapid detection methods for antibiotics. In this study, a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based system is developed for the multiplexed analysis of chloramphenicol (CAP) and streptomycin (Strep) with detection limits of 2.51 and 8.69μg l-1, respectively. The FRET-based system consists of Cy3-tagged anti-CAP aptamer-conjugated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) (referred to as AuNPs-AptCAP) and Cy5-tagged anti-Strep aptamer-conjugated AuNPs (referred to as AuNPs-AptStrep). In addition, AuNPs-AptCAP and AuNPs-AptStrep have been demonstrated to serve as signal transducers for implementing a series of logic operations such as YES, NOT, INH, OR, (2-4)-Decoder and even more complicated multi-level logic gates (OR-INH). Based on the outputs of logic operations, it could be figured out whether targeted analytes were present or not, thus enabling multiplex sensing and evaluation of pollution status. This proof of concept study might provide a new route for the enhanced sensing performance to distinguish different pollution status as well as the design of molecular mimics of logic elements to demonstrate better applicability.

Abstract
The food safety issue has gradually become the focus of attention in modern society. The presence of food contaminants poses a threat to human health and there are a number of interesting researches on the detection of food contaminants. Upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) are superior to other fluorescence materials, considering the benefits of large anti-Stokes shifts, high chemical stability, non-autofluorescence, good light penetration ability, and low toxicity. These properties render UCNPs promising candidates as luminescent labels in biodetection, which provides opportunities as a sensitive, accurate, and rapid detection method. This paper intended to review the research progress of food contaminants detection by UCNPs-based sensors. We have proposed the key criteria for UCNPs in the detection of food contaminants. Additionally, it highlighted the construction process of the UCNPs-based sensors, which includes the synthesis and modification of UCNPs, selection of the recognition elements, and consideration of the detection principle. Moreover, six kinds of food contaminants detected by UCNPs technology in the past 5 years have been summarized and discussed fairly. Last but not least, it is outlined that UCNPs have great potential to be applied in food safety detection and threw new insight into the challenges ahead.

Abstract
Five new uranyl coordination polymers were prepared by the hydrothermal method based on 5-nitroisophthalic acid (H2nip) as (UO2)(nip)(2,2'-bpy) (1), (H24,4'-bpy)·[(UO2)3(nip)4]·(4,4'-bpy) (2), (H2bpe)·[(UO2)0.5(nip)] (3), (H2 bpp)·[(UO2)2-(nip)3]·H2O (4), and (H2tmp)·[(UO2)(nip)2](5) [2,2'-bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, 4,4'-bpy = 4,4'-bipyridine, bpe = 4,4'-vinylenedipyridine, bpp = 4,4' -trimethylenedipyridine, tmp = tetramethylpyrazine]. All of these synthesized complexes have been characterized by single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, IR spectra, thermogravimetric analysis, elemental analysis, and luminescent properties. In particular, it is found that compounds 1 and 4 can be used as a luminescent sensor to efficiently detect arginine in aqueous solution by means of "turn-on"; the detection limits were 1.06 × 10-6 and 6.42 × 10-6 mol/L, respectively. Moreover, 4 can also be used as a bifunctional sensor for selective sensing of MnO4- anion by "turn-off". The detection limit of MnO4- in water was 1.79 × 10-6 mol/L; the Ksv was 1.88 × 104. The sensing effect of arginine in simulated grape juice samples and MnO4- in simulated river water samples was also investigated by this sensing system with high recovery. In addition, the possible mechanism of sensing arginine and MnO4- in the aqueous solution was discussed.
