Abstract
Objective The pathogenesis of overactive bladder (OAB) is associated with inflammation, yet specific indicators remain unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the association between the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP) score-a composite marker of inflammation and nutritional status-and the risk of OAB in a nationally representative adult population in the United States. Method We analyzed data from 24,939 participants in the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2005 and 2016. Participants were categorized into quartiles based on HALP scores. Weighted multivariable logistic regression models were used to examine the association between HALP scores and the risk of OAB, adjusting for relevant covariates. Additionally, smooth curve fitting was performed to assess nonlinear relationships. Result After adjusting for confounders, higher HALP scores were significantly associated with a lower risk of OAB (odds ratio [OR] 0.965, 95 % confidence interval [CI]: 0.951-0.980). Participants in the highest HALP quartile had a 20 % lower likelihood of OAB compared to those in the lowest quartile (OR 0.800, 95 % CI: 0.729-0.878). A nonlinear inverse relationship was observed between HALP score and OAB risk. Conclusion In this large, population-based study, higher HALP scores were independently associated with a lower risk of OAB among U.S. adults. These findings suggest that the HALP score may serve as a useful marker in the prediction and early identification of individuals at risk for OAB.

Abstract
AIMS This study aimed to evaluate the association between the systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII) and the risk of overactive bladder (OAB) in the adult United States population. METHODS Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2010 were analyzed. A non-pregnant cohort aged ≥20 years with available SII and OAB data was included. Weighted univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the association between SII and OAB risk. Additionally, subgroup, interaction, and restricted cubic spline analyses were conducted. RESULTS A total of 4,545 participants were included, of whom 16.13% had OAB, with a mean SII of 5.75 ± 0.07. OAB risk increased with higher SII tertiles. In the fully adjusted model (Model 2), individuals in the highest SII tertile exhibited a 41% higher risk of OAB compared to those in the lowest tertile (OR: 1.41, 95% CI: 1.13-1.76, P = 0.004). Two-piece-wise regression analysis identified an SII breakpoint at 3.40, where a significant positive association was found for SII ≥ 3.40 (OR = 1.06, P < 0.0001), whereas no significant association was detected for SII < 3.40 (P = 0.06). Subgroup and interaction analyses revealed a consistent relationship between SII and OAB across different population strata, except for diabetes mellitus. CONCLUSION SII, an easily accessible biomarker, was independently associated with an increased risk of OAB, highlighting its potential utility in diagnostic prediction.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS To investigate the potential correlation between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms within the female population. METHODS This study used data from 7941 individuals obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2018 dataset. The following equation is used to calculate the TyG index: TyG = Ln [fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) * fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. The symptoms of OAB were based on individuals' self-reported comprehensive score. Weighted logistic regression models, encompassing both univariable and multivariable analyses, were employed to evaluate the relationship between the TyG index and OAB in women. RESULTS After conducting extensive modifications, the multivariable logistic regression model revealed a significant correlation between the TyG index and mild OAB among American female adults (OR 1.36, 95% CI 1.09-1.70, P = 0.006). Upon categorizing the TyG index into 4 grades (Q1-Q4), a positive increase in OR values corresponding to higher TyG index grades can be observed. CONCLUSIONS In this study, our findings reveal a significantly positive relationship between elevated TyG index values and an increased prevalence of mild OAB among female adults. These findings suggest that metabolic dysregulation may drive early-stage OAB, while severe OAB symptoms may be more dependent on non-metabolic pathological changes. Further investigation is warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms in female adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. There is little knowledge on the association between cancer and risk of overactive bladder (OAB). Additionally, the impact of OAB on mortality among cancer survivors remains unknown. We aimed to examine the association between cancer and risk of OAB and investigate OAB associations with mortality outcomes in cancer survivors. METHODS We analyzed data of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1999 to 2018. Cancer status was identified through the NHANES questionnaire. OAB was diagnosed with a cumulative OAB Symptom Score ≥ 3. Multivariable logistic analysis was performed to examine the relationship between cancer and OAB. Cox regression analysis was carried out to investigate the relationship between OAB and mortality in subjects with cancer. RESULTS In total, this study included a cohort of 32,166 participants. Within the study population, the occurrence of cancer was observed in 9.606%, and OAB was prevalent in 20.167%. The findings from the logistic regression analyses indicated a heightened risk of OAB among individuals with cancer in comparison to those devoid of cancer. Results from subgroup analyses also revealed affirmative correlations between cancer and OAB. Furthermore, the diagnosis of cancer, irrespective of whether it was genitourinary, non-genitourinary, pelvic, or non-pelvic in nature, was found to be correlated with an increased risk of OAB. Within the cohort comprising 3,090 participants diagnosed with cancer, a total of 850 all-cause deaths were recorded during a median follow-up duration of 76 months. After accounting for multiple covariates, OAB was linked to an elevated risk of all-cause and cancer-specific mortality. Moreover, the influence of OAB on mortality from all causes was observed across various cancer types, including both genitourinary and non-genitourinary, as well as pelvic and non-pelvic cancers. CONCLUSIONS The investigation identified a noteworthy positive correlation between cancer and the likelihood of OAB. Moreover, OAB was significantly correlated with an elevated risk of mortality among individuals who had received a cancer diagnosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The albumin-globulin ratio (AGR) is considered an important indicator reflecting an individual's immune function and nutritional status, and it is closely associated with various health conditions. However, despite its widely studied correlations in numerous health fields, the link between AGR and Overactive Bladder (OAB) is still not completely comprehended. METHODS Data were sourced from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database, selecting adult samples spanning from 2007 to 2018. Through comprehensive questionnaires and laboratory tests, we gathered data pertinent to OAB and the AGR. To explore the association between AGR levels and the likelihood of developing OAB, we utilized advanced statistical techniques, such as weighted multivariate logistic regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) models. Furthermore, we carried out subgroup analyses to assess the uniformity of this association across various demographics. RESULTS After adjusting for relevant covariates, we discovered a marked negative correlation between AGR levels and the risk of OAB. As AGR increased, the incidence of OAB showed a declining trend (OR = 0.69; 95% CI 0.56-0.85). Furthermore, significant nonlinear dose-response relationship was observed between AGR levels and the risk of OAB (P < 0.001), and this association remained stable in stratified analyses. CONCLUSIONS Our results indicate that elevated AGR levels could be linked to a reduced risk of OAB. This observation highlights the potential role of AGR in assessing and preventing the occurrence of OAB.

Abstract
Overactive Bladder (OAB), characterized by urinary urgency with frequency and nocturia, affects approximately 12 % of the adult female population's quality of life. Estrogen, known for its role in modulating lower urinary tract function, is commonly prescribed to alleviate urogenital symptoms in menopausal women. However, the efficacy of oral estrogen in treating OAB remains controversial. This study explores the association between oral estrogen and OAB using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 to 2018. Participants were categorized based on their estrogen exposure and OAB status, with a logistic regression analysis employed to evaluate the relationship between oral estrogen and OAB, controlling for variables such as age, race, education, income, and health conditions. Additionally, network pharmacology and molecular docking were conducted to investigate the potential mechanisms underlying estrogen's effects on OAB. Our findings indicate that oral estrogen is an independent risk factor for OAB, particularly in women under 60. Moreover, the study highlights albumin and inflammation's central role in the estrogen-OAB interaction. These results suggest the need for cautious consideration of oral estrogen therapy in managing OAB and underscore the importance of personalized treatment approaches based on individual risk profiles.

Abstract
Background Some studies suggest a potential link between cardiovascular health, lipid, and overactive bladder (OAB). Life's Crucial 9 (LC9) is a recently developed method for assessing cardiovascular health, while the Atherogenic Index of Plasma (AIP) represents a novel marker of atherosclerotic lipid profiles. However, the relationship between Life's Crucial 9 and overactive bladder and the role of Atherogenic Index of Plasma in the relationship between Life's Crucial 9 and overactive bladder is unclear. This study investigates the relationship between Life's Crucial 9 and overactive bladder and evaluates whether Atherogenic Index of Plasma influences this association. Methods This study conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 25,628 U.S. participants in the NHANES database from 2005-2018. Firstly, we used multivariate logistic regression to investigate the relationship between Life's Crucial 9 and overactive bladder. Subsequently, subgroup analysis and restricted cubic splines (RCS) were further used to verify their relationship. Additionally, mediation analysis was conducted to explore the potential role of Atherogenic Index of Plasma levels in the association between Life's Crucial 9 and overactive bladder. Results A total of 25,628 participants were included in this study, among whom 5,150 reported overactive bladder events. After using multivariate logistic regression to adjust for age, sex, race, marital status, education level, poverty-to-income ratio (PIR), smoking, alcohol consumption, hypertension, diabetes, and hypercholesterolemia, a 10-unit increase in Life's Crucial 9 was associated with a 28% reduction in overactive bladder incidence (OR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.69-0.76), while a 1-unit increase in Atherogenic Index of Plasma was associated with a 7% increase in overactive bladder incidence (OR = 1.07, 95% CI: 1.01-1.14). Similar results were obtained when Life's Crucial 9 and Atherogenic Index of Plasma were categorized into tertiles, with a significant trend (P for trend < 0.05). Restricted cubic spline analysis revealed a linear negative correlation between Life's Crucial 9 and overactive bladder incidence. Mediation analysis further indicated that 6.49% of the relationship between Life's Crucial 9 and overactive bladder was mediated by Atherogenic Index of Plasma (P = 0.014). Conclusion This study found a significant negative correlation between Life's Crucial 9 and overactive bladder, with Atherogenic Index of Plasma partially mediating this relationship. These findings highlight the potential link between cardiovascular health and overactive bladder, underscoring the role of Life's Crucial 9 in reducing overactive bladder incidence, possibly through its effects on lowering lipid levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Overactive bladder (OAB) and female sexual dysfunction (FSD) are both common problems in women, but the association between OAB and FSD lacks a large sample study. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the association between OAB and FSD. METHODS Data for this study were obtained from the 2007-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) for women aged 20-59 years. OAB was qualified with the aid of the overactive bladder symptom score (OABSS), which was obtained by adding the nocturia score and the urge urinary incontinence score, and participants with a total score ≥ 3 were considered to suffer from OAB. The FSD was defined as a sexual frequency of less than 12 times per year. After adjusting for covariates including basic demographic information, social information (e.g., marital status), gynecological (e.g., abnormal menstruation), and significant medical comorbidities, the association between OAB and FSD was assessed using survey-weighted logistic regression mode. In addition, subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were used to further assess the reliability of the findings. RESULTS A total of 5590 women aged 20-59 were eligible in the final analysis from 2007 to 2016 NHANES. 30.43% of participants (n = 1701) were identified as FSD reporting sexual frequency of 0-11 times/year, while 69.57% of participants (n = 3889) were identified as normal female sexual function reporting sexual frequency > 11 times/year. We performed logistic regression analysis to examine the association between OAB and FSD. The results demonstrated that participants with OAB (OABSS < 3) were 23% more likely to report lower sexual frequency (≤ 11) than those without OAB (OABSS ≥ 3) after adjusting fully for demographics, social history, gynecologic history and significant medical conditions (OR: 1.23, 95%CI: 1.01-1.49, P = 0.040). CONCLUSION The study demonstrated the positive association between OAB and FSD measured by low sexual frequency among women 20-59 years old in the U.S. population; it is necessary to perform more comprehensive cohort studies to gain more profound understanding of the association between them.

Abstract
Background Abdominal obesity is recognized as a key risk factor for developing OAB. However, traditional measures of obesity, such as the waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist circumference, and body mass index (BMI), may not sufficiently capture fat distribution in the body. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between novel anthropometric indices and OAB, providing a more accurate assessment of obesity-related risk factors. Methods The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from 2007 to 2018 were utilized, comprising 27,560 participants. To assess the association and discriminative ability of novel anthropometric indices, including the Body Roundness Index (BRI), A Body Shape Index (ABSI), Waist-to-Weight Index (WWI), and Relative Fat Mass (RFM), with OAB, we employed multivariable logistic regression, restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis, subgroup analysis, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve methods. Results Multivariable logistic regression analysis indicated that higher levels of novel anthropometric indices were positively associated with OAB prevalence. One z-score increase in WWI, BRI, RFM, and ABSI was associated with a 16, 31, 57, and 5% higher likelihood of OAB, respectively. RCS analysis revealed a non-linear relationship between RFM and OAB. ROC analysis indicated that WWI (AUC = 0.680) and RFM (AUC = 0.661) provided better diagnostic accuracy than traditional measures such as BMI (AUC = 0.599). Subgroup analyses supported the robustness of these findings. Conclusion Novel anthropometric indices were positively associated with OAB prevalence. WWI and RFM demonstrated significantly better diagnostic value for OAB than BMI and WHtR. Future studies should investigate the potential of combining multiple anthropometric indices to improve predictive accuracy and conduct prospective studies to determine causality.

Abstract
Background The relationship between serum total bilirubin (STB) concentrations and the risk of overactive bladder (OAB) remains uncertain. This study aims to explore the potential connection between STB and OAB. Method We utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database for the years 2001-2020. Weighted multivariate logistic regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis assessed the relationship between STB and OAB. Interaction analyses on subgroups were performed to validate the findings. Results The study included 28,958 participants, with 5,313 identified as having OAB. The results from the fully adjusted models revealed an odds ratio (OR) of 0.98 (95% CI: 0.97, 0.99) and a statistically significant P value of less than 0.001 for the relationship between STB and OAB. Notably, individuals in the second and third tertiles exhibited significant differences compared to those in the lowest STB tertile, with respective odds ratios (P values) of 0.88 (0.04) and 0.80 (<0.001). RCS analysis indicated a non-linear association between STB and OAB (P for nonlinearity = 0.042), with an inflection point at 16.8 μmol/L. The association between STB and OAB exhibited consistency across various subgroups, except for stratification by age and diabetes status(P for interaction = 0.002 and 0.004, respectively), indicating a stronger correlation in individuals younger than 60 years or those without diabetes. Conclusion These findings suggest an inverse association between STB concentrations below 16.8 μmol/L and the incidence of OAB. Bilirubin could potentially serve as an intervention or risk assessment tool for OAB in future studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Overactive bladder (OAB) is a common disorder, particularly in women, and its symptoms, including urgency, frequency, and nocturia, can significantly affect quality of life. The cardiometabolic index (CMI) is a novel metabolic risk indicator that has been receiving more attention lately. This study investigated the association between CMI and OAB in adult women. METHODS A cross-sectional analysis was performed using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) covering the years 2007 to 2018, including 6323 female participants. CMI was calculated based on waist-to-height ratio, triglyceride, and HDL cholesterol levels, while OAB was assessed using the overactive bladder symptom score (OABSS). The association between CMI and OAB was evaluated through multivariate logistic regression, generalized additive models (GAM), smoothing curve fitting, and subgroup analysis. We finally included male participants for sensitivity analysis. RESULTS A significant positive association was found between female CMI and OAB prevalence (OR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.29-1.65). When compared to the lowest CMI quartile (Q1), women in the highest CMI quartile were 70% more likely to have OAB (OR = 1.70, 95% CI: 1.42-2.04). Smoothed curve fitting analysis showed a linear association between CMI and OAB. Subgroup analysis revealed that the association between CMI and OAB was stronger in women aged 20-50 years as well as in women without hypertension. Sensitivity analysis confirmed the robustness of our result. CONCLUSION CMI was significantly and positively associated with the prevalence of OAB, especially in women aged 20-50 years without hypertension. This finding provides a new perspective on metabolic risk management and may contribute to the early prevention and improvement of bladder function in women.

Abstract
Background Research suggests a potential connection between cardiovascular health, obesity, and overactive bladder (OAB). However, the mechanisms by which obesity influences the relationship between cardiovascular health and OAB remain unclear. Life's Crucial 9 (LC9) is a recently proposed method for assessing cardiovascular health, while the weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) is a novel and more accurate measure of obesity. This study investigates the relationship between LC9 and OAB and assesses whether WWI moderates this relationship. Methods Data for this study came from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). We used subgroup analyses, restricted cubic spline curves (RCS), and multivariate logistic regression to explore the relationship between LC9 and OAB. Additionally, mediation analysis was conducted to investigate the potential association between WWI levels and the relationship between LC9 and OAB. Results A total of 25,319 participants were included in this study, among which 5,038 reported incidents of OAB. After adjusting for all variables using multivariable logistic regression, an increase of 10 units in LC9 was associated with a 28% reduction in the incidence of OAB (OR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.69, 0.76), while an increase of one unit in WWI was associated with a 40% increase in the incidence of OAB (OR = 1.40, 95% CI: 1.29, 1.51). Consistent results were also observed when LC9 and WWI were categorized into quartiles, with a P for trend <0.001. The analysis using restricted cubic splines indicated a linear negative correlation between the incidence of OAB and LC9. Mediation analysis revealed that 13.89% of the relationship between LC9 and OAB was mediated by WWI (p = 0.002). Conclusion This study found a significant negative correlation between LC9 and OAB, with WWI acting as a partial mediator in this relationship. This study provides new insights for future research into the relationship between LC9 and OAB and the role of WWI as a mediator.

Abstract
Background Overactive bladder syndrome (OAB) is a prevalent urological condition which has a substantial impact on the life quality of affected individuals, resulting in restrictions in daily activities and work productivity. Alcohol is a diuretic, which means that it increases urine production and can potentially worsen urinary urgency and frequency. Several studies have investigated the association between alcohol consumption and OAB symptoms, but the results have been conflicting. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between alcohol consumption and OAB symptoms using a large, nationally representative sample. Method Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005-2016 were obtained for analysis. The Overactive Bladder Symptom Scale (OBSS) was used to determine the presence of OAB in each participant. Multivariate logistic regression and ordinal logistic regression were used to analyze the association of alcohol use frequency and quantity with the onset and severity of OAB, respectively. Results A total of 7,805 samples (representing the 1,473,525,341 US population after weighting) were included in our analysis. Approximately 12.4% of this weighted sample self-reported having OAB. A greater proportion of nondrinkers, a higher proportion of females, higher blood pressure, older age, and lower income levels were observed in OAB patients compared to non-OAB patients. Univariate logistic regression revealed that the risk of OAB was significantly greater in the nondrinker group than in the 1-5 drinks/month (OR 0.64; 95% CI, 0.50-0.83), 5-10 drinks/month (OR 0.60; 95% CI, 0.43-0.82) and 10+ drinks/month groups (OR 0.41; 95% CI, 0.30-0.56) and the risk of OAB in the lowest quartile of alcohol consumption quantity was significantly higher than the second (OR 0.58; 95% CI, 0.47-0.70), third (OR 0.49; 95% CI, 0.39-0.62), and highest quartiles groups (OR 0.58; 95% CI, 0.45-0.75). The adjusted model revealed that only patients in the 10+ drinks/month group had a significantly lower risk of OAB than did those in the nondrinker group (OR = 0.64; 95% CI = 0.45-0.92), while the other two groups had similar risks. Furthermore, no significant association was found for the highest quartiles in the adjusted model; however, the second and third quartiles of alcohol consumption quantity group still exhibited obvious associations. These findings suggest that higher alcohol consumption, when appropriate, is associated with a lower risk of OAB compared to nondrinkers and the lowest quartile of alcohol consumption quantity group, even after adjusting for age, sex, race, and comorbidities. Conclusion In conclusion, our findings revealed a significant association between alcohol consumption and the incidence of OAB in the study population. In terms of long-term effects, alcohol may not be a risk factor for OAB. These factors may represent intervention targets for lowering the risk and severity of OAB symptoms, but this needs to be confirmed in large clinical trials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The link between regional body fat distribution and overactive bladder (OAB) in prior epidemiological research has been uncertain. Our objective is to assess the relationship between increased regional body fat and the prevalence of OAB. METHODS Within this analysis, 8,084 individuals aged 20 years and older were selected from NHANES surveys conducted from 2011 to 2018. The evaluation of OAB symptoms utilized the overactive bladder symptom score (OABSS). Fat mass (FM) across various regions was quantified employing dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, which assessed total FM, trunk FM, arm FM, and leg FM. The fat mass index (FMI) was calculated as the ratio of fat mass (kg) to the square of height (meters). Data weighting was performed in accordance with analysis guidelines. A linear logistic regression model was employed to assess the correlation between regional FMI and the occurrence of OAB. Stratified analyses were also conducted. RESULTS The study found significant associations between total FMI and limb FMI with OAB. After adjusting for all variables in the analysis, higher total FMI (OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.02-1.12) was linked to an increased risk of OAB. Trunk FMI (OR = 1.12, 95% CI = 1.03-1.22), arm FMI (OR = 1.59, 95% CI = 1.20-2.10), and leg FMI (OR = 1.12, 95% CI = 1.01-1.25) demonstrated significant correlations with OAB. The weighted associations between total FMI and limb FMI with OAB incidence showed no significant differences among most subgroups. CONCLUSIONS The data indicates a correlation between higher regional FMI and increased OAB risk across different populations.

Abstract
Cadmium is a common environmental pollutant associated with various health risks. Its neurotoxic, muscle-damaging, and pro-inflammatory properties may be related to overactive bladder (OAB), though few studies have assessed its impact on urinary function. This study aimed to examine the potential link between cadmium exposure and OAB. Using data from the 2007-2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), we analyzed adults aged 40 and older (n = 15,467) in a cross-sectional design. OAB was defined by the refined Overactive Bladder Symptom Score (OABSS). Weighted multivariate logistic regression examined the associations between blood cadmium levels and OAB and its components. Age and gender stratifications were performed, and restricted cubic splines (RCS) were used to explore non-linear associations between blood cadmium and OAB. Sensitivity analyses and co-exposure analyses with other pollutants were conducted to assess OAB definition stability, subgroup differences, and exposure collinearity. The prevalence of OAB was 26.2%. While blood cadmium showed a small, non-significant positive association with overall OAB, it was inversely associated with nocturia severity (OR = 0.85, 95% CI 0.74-0.98, p < 0.05). Blood cadmium was also linked to more severe urinary incontinence in the 50-59 age group and among non-Hispanic Black adults. A non-linear association between blood cadmium and OAB was observed (p for nonlinearity = 0.016, p < 0.05). In co-exposure analyses, cadmium remained a dominant and independent factor. These findings suggest that cadmium exposure may have a complex association with OAB and may relate differently to its various components. Further research is needed to explore these relationships.

Abstract
Background Phthalates, widely used as plasticizers, are pervasive environmental contaminants and endocrine disruptors. Their potential role in overactive bladder (OAB) pathogenesis is underexplored, necessitating further investigation into their impact on OAB using large-scale epidemiological data. Methods This study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning from 2011 to 2018. A weighted multivariable logistic regression model was employed to examine the relationship between urinary phthalate concentrations and OAB. Subgroup analyses were conducted to explore differences in associations across various subgroups. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis was used to investigate the potential non-linear relationship between urinary phthalate concentrations and OAB. Additionally, Bayesian Kernel Machine Regression (BKMR) analysis was performed to explore the overall effects and interactions of phthalate mixtures. Results In the multivariable logistic regression model fully adjusted for confounding variables, higher concentrations of MBzP and MiBP were associated with an increased risk of OAB, particularly in the highest tertiles (MBzP: OR = 1.401, 95% CI: 1.108-1.771; MiBP: OR = 1.050, 95% CI: 1.045-1.056). Subgroup analysis found that subgroup characteristics did not have a significant moderating effect on the association between phthalates and OAB. RCS analysis revealed a linear relationship between both MBzP and MiBP and OAB. BKMR analysis confirmed a positive overall effect of phthalate mixtures on OAB risk, with MBzP identified as the major contributing factor. Conclusion In our study cohort, a positive correlation between urinary phthalate concentrations and OAB was observed, necessitating further research to validate and refine this conclusion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between the use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and overactive bladder (OAB) in adults. METHODS This study adopts a cross-sectional approach to scrutinize data derived from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), spanning from 2007 to 2018. It employs multivariable logistic regression along with restricted cubic splines (RCS) to investigate the relationship between the use of PPI and the incidence of OAB. Additionally, through interaction and stratification analyses, the study delves into how specific factors may influence this correlation. RESULTS A total of 24,458 adults participated in this study. Individuals using PPIs exhibited higher rates of nocturia, urge incontinence, and OAB compared to non-users. After full adjustment, PPI users had a significantly increased risk of developing OAB (OR=1.36, 95%CI: 1.17-1.60). Moreover, with each year of continued PPI usage, the frequency of OAB symptoms escalated by 3% (P = .01). Further examinations within various subgroups maintained a uniform direction in these effect estimates. CONCLUSION The findings of this research highlight a noteworthy positive link between the use of PPIs and the emergence of OAB among adults. Moreover, it was observed that an extended period of using PPIs correlates with a heightened likelihood of encountering OAB.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is growing evidence of a possible correlation between depression and overactive bladder (OAB). However, few studies have classified depression according to its severity. Whether there is an association between different levels of depression and OAB symptoms remains unclear. METHODS Participants with complete information about depression, OAB, and covariates in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2018 were included in this study. Depression symptoms were assessed by the Patient Health Questionnaire-9. OAB symptoms were evaluated by the Overactive Bladder Symptom Score. Weighted multivariate logistic regression models were applied to analyze the relationship between depression and OAB. RESULTS A total of 30 359 participants were included in this study, consisting of 6245 OAB patients and 24 114 non-OAB participants. The multivariate logistic regression suggested depression independently correlated with OAB (odds ratio [OR] = 2.764, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.429-3.146, p < 0.001). Further, mild (OR = 2.355, 95% CI = 2.111-2.627, p < 0.001), moderate (OR = 3.262, 95% CI = 2.770-3.841, p < 0.001), and moderately severe to severe depression (OR = 3.927, 95% CI = 3.246-4.752, p < 0.001) were all associated with OAB. Additionally, depression was also correlated with urgency urinary incontinence (OR = 2.249, 95% CI = 1.986-2.548, p < 0.001) and nocturia (OR = 2.166, 95% CI = 1.919-2.446, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION This study indicated different levels of depression, even mild depression, were independent risk factors for OAB. Given the frequent coexistence and potential interactions between depression and OAB, clinicians should be aware of the importance of assessing both physical and psychological symptoms in these patients. Early diagnosis and holistic treatment may improve the treatment outcomes, particularly for those suffering from both conditions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The focus of this research was to explore any potential link between nocturia and the risk of suicidal ideation. METHODS Drawing from the National Health and Nutrition Survey, data relating to 25 241 participants was scrutinized. This included 13 421 individuals identifying as male and 11 820 individuals identifying as female. Participants provided information on nocturia and suicidal ideation via self-completed questionnaires. To determine if nocturia was independently related to suicidal ideation, a multivariable logistic regression analysis was employed. Analyses were also undertaken separately for adult males and females. RESULTS It was found that around 3.5% of participants had experienced suicidal ideation. The results indicated that nocturia increased the risk for suicidal ideation in all adult groups (odds ratio [OR] = 1.67, 95% confidence interval[CI]: 1.37-2.03, p < 0.0001), including both males (OR = 1.91, 95% CI: 1.38-2.65, p < 0.001) and females (OR = 1.48, 95% CI: 1.158-1.90, p = 0.002). The risk for suicidal ideation increased with the severity of nocturia, with significant trends observed in adult males (p for trend = 0.04) and adult females (p for trend = 0.01). Additionally, subgroup examination showed a significant interaction between nocturia and educational level in adult males (p for interaction = 0.03). Among adult females, a noteworthy interaction was observed between nocturia and body mass index (p for interaction = 0.02). CONCLUSION The research uncovered a connection between nocturia and an elevated risk of suicidal ideation.

Abstract
Background Education level significantly impacts individual health outcomes. This research investigates the correlation between education level and the prevalence of overactive bladder (OAB). Methods This study employed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2005 to 2020 to conduct a thorough investigation of the association between educational level and OAB using multivariable logistic regression, smooth curve fitting, and generalized additive model. Results Out of 37,423 surveyed participants from the United States, 8,033 were identified with OAB. The comprehensive adjusted model revealed a notable inverse correlation between education level and OAB prevalence (odds ratio [OR] = 0.86, 95 % confidence interval [CI] = 0.83-0.89, P < 0.001). When education level was categorized, participants with the highest educational qualification (college graduates or higher) had a 44 % lower likelihood of having OAB compared to those with the lowest education (below 9th grade) (OR = 0.56, 95 % CI = 0.47-0.66, P < 0.001). Conclusion The findings underscore a substantial inverse correlation between education level and OAB prevalence. Although continued research is required to confirm these findings, educational attainment may guide the development of preventative and therapeutic strategies for OAB.

Abstract
AIMS This study aimed to investigate the association between diarrhea or constipation and urinary incontinence (UI) in adults. METHODS Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for 2009-2010 was used to include 4686 adults aged 20 and over in the analysis. Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) were used as outcome variables, with diarrhea and constipation as exposure factors. We first compared the baseline characteristics of those with and without SUI, as well as those with and without UUI. The impact of diarrhea or constipation on SUI and UUI was assessed using multivariate logistic regression models. To ensure the stability of the results, subgroup and stratified analyses were conducted. RESULTS The prevalence rates of UUI and SUI were 22.49% and 23.39%, respectively. Adjusted multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the risk of UUI was increased by either diarrhea (OR 1.66, 95% CI 1.36-2.04) or constipation (OR 1.42, 95% CI 1.11-1.83). The risk of SUI was also elevated by either diarrhea (OR 1.36, 95% CI 1.11-1.67) or constipation (OR 1.32, 95% CI 1.06-1.63). Subgroup analysis revealed no significant differences in the interaction tests between constipation or diarrhea and UI. CONCLUSIONS This study found that both constipation and diarrhea increase the risk of UUI and SUI.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The underlying mechanisms of Overactive Bladder (OAB) remain unclear. This research is designed to investigate the correlation between the intake of dietary live microorganisms and OAB. METHODS This analysis encompasses a cross-sectional study of broad population information gathered from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) spanning the years 2007 to 2018. Participants were categorized into three groups-low, medium, and high-according to their consumption of dietary live microorganisms, as per the Sanders Dietary Active Microbiota Classification System. We utilized a weighted logistic regression model, restricted cubic spline (RCS), and subgroup analyses to investigate the relationship between dietary live microorganism intake and OAB. RESULTS This research encompassed 16,795 subjects. The incidence of OAB was reduced in the group consuming a high amount of live dietary microbes compared to the groups with low and medium intake of such microbes. After detailed adjustments for covariates, analysis revealed that participants in the high live dietary microbe group had notably reduced odds of OAB compared to those in the low live dietary microbe group (OR: 0.84, 95% CI: 0.71-0.99, p = 0.03). RCS analysis indicated a nonlinear correlation between high dietary active microbiota intake and the incidence of OAB. CONCLUSION This research emphasizes the potential advantages of a high dietary intake of active microbiota for preventing OAB. These findings support incorporating active microbiota into dietary guidelines, demonstrating their connection with a decreased incidence of OAB.

Abstract
PURPOSE Androgen receptors are expressed in the pelvic floor and lower urinary tract. However, the association between serum testosterone and overactive bladder (OAB) in women remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate their association in a nationally representative population. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, we collected data on female participants older than 20 years with serum total testosterone measurements and OAB questionnaires from the 2011-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Survey-weighted logistic regression models were used to analyze the relationship between testosterone and OAB in women. RESULTS Data on 4991 women was analyzed in this study, of whom 25.9% had OAB symptoms. Women with lower serum testosterone had an increased frequency of urge urinary incontinence and nocturia compared to participants with enough testosterone. The multivariate logistic models showed that those women with a testosterone level less than 18.5 ng/dL had significantly higher odds of OAB compared to those with a testosterone level greater than 18.5 ng/dL [OR 95% CI = 1.271 (1.073-1.505), P = 0.0076]. Separate interaction analyses revealed no significant effect of age, BMI, diabetes, education, alcohol use and menopause on the association between serum testosterone and OAB. Sensitivity analyses demonstrated that additional variables (depression, stroke and stress urinary incontinence) had no significant effect on this relationship. CONCLUSIONS Low serum testosterone is associated with an increased likelihood of OAB in women. This supports the potential therapeutic role of testosterone supplementation in women with OAB. Given the direct and indirect effects of testosterone on the pelvic floor and lower urinary tract, a potential mechanism for this relationship can be further explored in translational studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM An increasing amount of research has indicated obesity greatly affects individuals with overactive bladder (OAB). However, traditional anthropometric methods present challenges in accurately assessing the likelihood of OAB. Hence, this study's objective was to identify the correlation between the body roundness index (BRI) and OAB. METHODS The research included 12,401 individuals who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey spanning 2005-2018. The correlation between BRI and OAB was explored by using weighted multiple logistic regression and weighted restricted cubic spline (RCS). Subgroup analyses showed the associations based on different population types. The study also analyzed the predictive capability of various anthropometric indices, including BRI, body mass index, waist circumference, and weight, in assessing the likelihood of OAB through Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves. RESULTS An independent positive correlation between OAB and BRI was identified after adjusting for potential confounders in weighted multivariate logistic models[odds ratio (OR) = 1.15, 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.12-1.17]. Weighted RCS analysis found a positive dose-response correlation between OAB and BRI. The effect size of BRI on OAB remained stable across all prespecified subgroups (all P for interactions > 0.05). In ROC analysis, BRI showed better discriminatory ability for OAB compared with other anthropometric measures for both genders (all P < 0.01). The best BRI cutoff for predicting OAB was lower for men (5.151) than for women (5.383), suggesting that men were more susceptible to changes in BRI than women. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that a raised BRI is correlated with a higher likelihood of OAB. Due to the effectiveness and non-invasiveness of BRI in predicting OAB, it is expected to become the preferred method for early detection and management strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Previous studies have reported an inconsistent relationship between overactive bladder (OAB) and the consumption of tea, coffee, and caffeine. Our study aims to determine these associations in a large and nationally representative adult sample. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 15,379 participants from the 2005-2018 US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. The outcome was the risk of wet OAB that was diagnosed when the OAB symptom score was ≥3 with urgent urinary incontinence and excluded other diseases affecting diagnosis. The exposures were the consumption of tea, coffee, and caffeine. Weighted logistic regression models were established to explore these associations by calculating odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI), as did restricted cubic splines (RCS) used to analyze the nonlinear associations. RESULT Of all the participants (n = 15,379), 2207 had wet OAB. Mean [SE] consumption of tea, total coffee, caffeinated coffee, decaffeinated coffee, and caffeine was 233.6 [15.7] g/day, 364.3 [15.5] g/day, 301.6 [14.9] g/day, 62.7 [7.9] g/day, 175.5 [6.6] mg/day in participants with wet OAB, respectively. In the fully adjusted model, compared to those without tea consumption, the high consumption of tea (>481 g/day) was associated with an increased risk of wet OAB (OR: 1.29; 95%CI: 1.01-1.64). Low decaffeinated coffee (0.001-177.6 g/day) had a negative association with the risk (OR: 0.66; 95%CI: 0.49-0.90). In the RCS analysis, tea consumption showed a positive linear association with the risk of wet OAB, and decaffeinated coffee showed a nonlinear relationship with the risk and had a turning point of 78 g/day in the U-shaped curve between 0 and 285 g/day. Besides, total coffee, caffeinated coffee, and caffeine consumption had no significant association with the risk. Interestingly, in the high tea consumption, participants with high total coffee consumption [>527.35 g/day, OR and 95%CI: 2.14(1.16-3.94)] and low caffeine consumption [0.1-74.0 mg/day, OR and 95%CI: 1.50(1.03-2.17)] were positively associated with the risk of wet OAB. CONCLUSION High tea consumption was associated with the increased risk of wet OAB, especially intake together with high total coffee and low caffeine consumption, but no significant association with the single consumption of total coffee and caffeine. Low decaffeinated coffee was associated with a decreased risk of wet OAB. It is necessary to control tea intake when managing the liquid intake of wet OAB patients.

Abstract
Current research indicate that inflammation is linked to the development of overactive bladder (OAB). The aim of this study was to examine the correlation between OAB and the systemic immunity-inflammation index (SII) in the USA. We analyzed data from 31,881 participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005-2018. SII, calculated as platelet count × neutrophil count/lymphocyte count, was categorized into quartiles. OAB was defined by the presence of urge urinary incontinence and nocturia. Weighted logistic regression models were used to examine the independent relationship between SII and OAB, adjusting for demographic factors, kidney function, and diabetes status. The results showed that each tenfold increase in log-transformed SII was associated with an 18% higher odds of OAB (OR 1.18, 95% CI 1.08-1.28) in the fully adjusted model. Compared to the lowest SII quartile, the highest quartile had a 28% increased OAB risk (OR 1.28, 95% CI 1.12-1.47). The positive association between SII and OAB risk was consistently observed across subgroups stratified by age, sex, race, marital status, education, and poverty level. Our study reveals a positive correlation between SII levels and OAB, indicating that higher SII levels are associated with an increased likelihood of developing OAB.

Abstract
Limited research has explored the relationship between overactive bladder (OAB) and cardiovascular health (CVH). We aim to examine the correlation between OAB and CVH in American adults, utilizing the Life's Essential 8 (LE8). We included 70,190 individuals from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey spanning from 2005 to 2018. In our study, the independent variable is LE8 score, where higher scores denote better CVH. The dependent variable is the presence of OAB. We employed multivariable logistic regression along with restricted cubic splines to evaluate the association between LE8 and OAB. Additionally, we performed interaction analyzes on subgroups to validate the findings. There is a significant negative correlation between LE8 scores and OAB. Upon adjusting for all covariates, a 10-point increase in LE8 total score correlated with a 17% decrease in the odds of OAB [0.83 (95% CI 0.78, 0.89)]. Compared to participants with lower LE8 scores, those with higher LE8 scores had a 46% lower probability of developing OAB. Consistent results were also observed in the association between scores of four health behaviors and four health factors and OAB. Furthermore, a notable interaction was observed between LE8 scores and smoking status. This study showed a significant negative correlation between LE8 scores and OAB prevalence.

Abstract
Background Socioeconomic status inequality is an important variable in the emergence of urological diseases in humans. This study set out to investigate the association between the prevalence of overactive bladder (OAB) and the poverty income ratio (PIR) that served as a more influential indicator of socioeconomic status compared to education and occupation. Method Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted from 2007 to 2020 were used in this cross-sectional study. The association between the PIR and OAB was examined using weighted multivariate logistic regression and weighted restricted cubic splines (RCS). Additionally, interaction analysis was used for investigation to the connections between PIR and OAB in various covariate groups in order to confirm the stability of the results. Results We observed a noteworthy inverse association between PIR and OAB after adjusting for potential confounding variables (OR = 0.87, 95% CI, 0.84-0.90, p < 0.0001). PIR was transformed into categorical variables, and the association held steady after that (1.0 < PIR <4.0 vs. PIR ≤ 1.0, OR = 0.70, 95% CI =0.63-0.77, p < 0.0001; PIR ≥ 4.0 vs. PIR ≤ 1.0, OR = 0.56, 95% CI =0.48-0.65, p < 0.0001). Additionally, RCS analysis showed that PIR and OAB had a negative nonlinear response relationship. Subgroup analyses showed that the inverse association between PIR and prevalence of OAB was stronger in obese than in nonobese individuals (P for interaction < 0.05). Conclusion In our study, we observed a significant negative association between the PIR and the prevalence of OAB. In the future, PIR could be used as a reference standard to develop strategies to prevent and treat OAB.

Abstract
Objective This study aims to examine the correlation between overactive bladder (OAB) and food insecurity. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional analysis utilizing extensive population data derived from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2007-2018. The status of Household food insecurity is evaluated by the US Food Security Survey Module. To explore the relationship between food insecurity and OAB, three multivariable logistic regression models were carried out. Additionally, interaction and stratified analyses were also performed to find whether some factors have the potential to alter the correlation. Results There were 29,129 participants enrolled in the study. Compared to the other three groups, individuals with full food security exhibited a lower proportion of nocturia, urinary urgency incontinence, and OAB. In the fully-adjusted model, it was found that people experiencing food insecurity have a significantly higher prevalence of OAB compared to those with food security in the fully-adjusted model (OR = 1.540, 95%CI 1.359-1.745). Additionally, there was a significant association between the levels of food insecurity and an increased risk of OAB prevalence was also observed (marginal food security: OR = 1.312, low food security: OR = 1.559, and very low food security: OR = 1.759). No significant interaction was seen in the fully-adjusted model. Conclusion There is a strong positive correlation between food insecurity and the prevalence of OAB. Similarly, the correlation between levels of food insecurity and OAB also indicates the same trend. Namely, the more insecure food, the higher risk of OAB prevalence in the population.

Background The relationship between exposure to organophosphate esters (OPEs) and the risk of developing overactive bladder (OAB) is uncertain. The purpose of this study is to examine the potential link between urinary metabolites of organophosphate esters and OAB. Method Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database of the 2011-2016 cycles were utilized. Four urinary metabolites of organophosphate esters: diphenyl phosphate (DPHP), bis (1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (BDCPP), bis (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (BCEP), and dibutyl phosphate (DBUP) were included in the study. Multivariate logistic regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) were used to evaluate the relationship between urinary OPEs metabolites and OAB. Interaction analysis was conducted on subgroups to confirm the findings. Results A total of 3,443 United States (US) adults aged 20 years or older were included in the study, of whom 597 participants were considered to have OAB. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, we found a positive association between DPHP and the risk of overactive bladder. The risk of overactive bladder increased with increasing DPHP concentrations compared with quartile 1 (quartile 2, OR = 1.19, 95% CI, 0.82-1.73, P = 0.34; quartile 3, OR = 1.67, 95% CI, 1.10-2.53, P = 0.02; Q4, OR = 1.75, 95% CI, 1.26-2.43, P = 0.002). However, after dividing the participants by gender, only the female group retained consistent results. Additionally, restricted cubic spline analysis revealed a nonlinear dose-response correlation between DPHP and OAB in female participants. In the subgroup analysis based on age, race, body mass index (BMI), recreational activity, smoking status, drinking status, hypertension, diabetes, and stroke, the interaction analysis revealed that the findings were uniform. Conclusion Our findings indicate that exposure to DPHP could elevate the risk of OAB in US adult females. Further experimental studies are needed to explore the underlying mechanism in the future.

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this investigation is to determine whether regular marijuana use is related to history of kidney stones in the US population. Methods: Data were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2009 to 2018. Kidney stone and marijuana use data were collected from self-report questionnaires. Multivariate logistic regression and multiple sensitivity analyses were applied to examine the relationship between marijuana usage and kidney stones. Results: There are approximately 26.04% of the US population have admitted to using marijuana in their lifetime. Compared with none regular users, those with a higher frequency of marijuana use were more males, more non-Hispanic races, lower than high school education, overweight, no recreational activity, without diabetes mellitus, and more coronary heart disease. After adjusting for potential confounders, multivariate regression analysis demonstrated that marijuana use was inversely correlated to kidney stones in males (Odds ratio [OR] = 0.72, 95% Confidence interval [CI] = 0.54-0.97). One to seven times/week regular consumption of marijuana was associated with kidney stones in males (OR = 0.62, 95% CI = 0.43-0.89). Sensitivity analyses validated the robustness of our outcomes. Conclusion: Our findings revealed that regular marijuana male users were inversely associated with kidney stones. Marijuana use one to six times/week was inversely related to the risk of kidney stones in males. Further studies are required to explore the dose and type associations of marijuana with kidney stones.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the association between sarcopenia and overactive bladder (OAB) in a United States adult population from 2011 to 2018, and whether sarcopenia can predict the risk of OAB. MATERIALS AND METHODS We analyzed data from the 2011-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in a cross-sectional study(NHANES) of 8746 participants, of whom 1213 were diagnosed with OAB, we analyzed correlations by sex, age, race, education level, marital status, household income-to-poverty ratio, hypertension, diabetes, strenuous work activity, moderate work activity, strenuous recreational activity, moderate recreational activity, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, and uric acid levels using restricted cubic spline plots of dose-response curves, univariate and multivariate Logistic regression. Models based on sex, age, education, household income to poverty ratio, hypertension, diabetes, sarcopenia index, and cotinine were developed and evaluated using Nomogram, calibration curves, receiver operating characteristic curves, and clinical decision curves. RESULTS Of the 1213 OAB patients, 388 (32.0%) were male and 825 (68.0%) were female. Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that sarcopenia index was negatively correlated with the prevalence of OAB (OR=0.084, 95% CI, 0.056 - 0.130, P <0.001;OR=0.456, 95%CI, 0.215-0.968, P= 0.0041). Dose curve analysis of the sarcopenia index and prevalence of OAB showed that the prevalence of OAB decreased significantly with increasing sarcopenia index. Sarcopenia was positively correlated with OAB (OR=2.400, 95%CI, 2.000 - 2.800, P <0.001;OR=1.46, 95%CI, 1.096 -1.953, P = 0.010). In addition, our model shows that sarcopenia can predict the prevalence of OAB (AUC = 0.750) and has some clinical decision-making implications. CONCLUSION Sarcopenia is positively associated with the risk of OAB in United States adults and can be used as a predictor of OAB prevalence.
