Abstract
Water contamination by heavy metals, especially chromium (VI), poses a critical environmental issue due to its carcinogenic nature and persistence in the environment. Addressing this, the current study develops an efficient adsorbent, CPBr-MIL-88A@AmGO, which utilizes the synergistic capabilities of Cetylpyridinium bromide-modified MIL-88A and amine-functionalized graphene oxide to enhance Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solutions. The obtained results indicate that CPBr-MIL-88A@AmGO achieves its highest removal efficacy at pH 2, where the interaction of CPBr and AmGO's positively charged centers significantly contributes to the adsorption processes. According to the Langmuir isotherm model, the composite's adsorption capacity reached a maximum of 306.75 mg/g. The adsorption kinetics adhered to a pseudo-second-order model along with the endothermic nature of the process. Although the presence of SO42- ions significantly reduces adsorption capacity, other interfering ions including Na+, K+, Ca2+, Cl-, and NO3- only slightly affect it. Remarkably, the composite maintains high removal efficiency, over 82%, even after 7 recycling tests, underscoring its potential for practical applications in water treatment systems. The proposed mechanism involves the contribution of electrostatic attractions, ion exchange, complexation, and the reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) in the removal process. This study not only offers a potent solution for Cr(VI) remediation but also contributes to sustainable water resource management.

Abstract
Arsenic (As) contaminated water, especially groundwater reservoirs, is a major issue worldwide owing to its hazardous consequences on human health and the global environment issues. Also, irrigating agricultural fields with As-contaminated water not only produces an accumulation of As in the soil but also compromises food safety due to As entering into agricultural products. Hence, there is an urgent need to develop an efficient method for As removal in water. Fe-based MOFs have attained special attention due to their low toxicity, high water stability, better physical and chemical properties, and high abundance of iron. The arsenic species removal by Fe-MOF follows the adsorption and oxidation mechanism where As (III) converts into As (V). Moreover, the adsorption mechanism is facilitated by electrostatic interactions, H-bonding, acid-base interaction, hydrophobic interactions, van der Waals forces, π-π stacking interactions, and coordinative bindings responsible for Fe-O-As bond generation. This review thoroughly recapitulates and analyses recent advancements in the facile synthesis and potential application of Fe-based MOF adsorbents for the elimination of As ions. The most commonly employed hydro/solvothermal, ultrasonic, microwave-assisted, mechanochemical, and electrochemical synthesis for Fe-MOF has been discussed along with their adsorptive and oxidative mechanisms involved in arsenic removal. The effects of factors like pH and coexisting ions have also been discussed. Lastly, the article also proposed the prospects for developing the application of Fe-based MOF in treating As-contaminated water.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown great prospects in wastewater remediation. However, the easy aggregation, difficult separation and inferior reusability greatly limit their large-scale application. Herein, we proposed a facile, green and low-cost strategy to construct robust and stable MOF-based hydrogel beads (Fe-BTC-HBs) in a gram scale, and employed them to remove antibiotics from wastewater. As a result, the Fe-BTC-HBs demonstrated outstanding adsorption capacity for both ofloxacin (OFL) and tetracycline (TC) (281.17 mg/g for OFL and 223.60 mg/g for TC) under a near-neutral environment. The main adsorption mechanisms of OFL and TC were hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interaction. Owing to its macroscopic granule and stable structure, Fe-BTC-HBs can be separated rapidly from wastewater after capturing antibiotics, and more than 85% adsorption capacity still remained after six cycles, while the powdered Fe-BTC only showed less than 6% recovery efficiency with massive weight loss (around 92%). In real industrial effluent, the adsorption performance of Fe-BTC-HBs toward two antibiotics exhibited negligible decreases (2.9% for OFL and 2.2% for TC) compared with that in corresponding solutions. Furthermore, Fe-BTC-HBs also had appealing economic and environmental benefit. Overall, the macro-manufactured MOF beads have the promising potential for the large-scale wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Arsenic in water environment can present significant threats to human health, and eliminating arsenic pollutants from wastewater is crucial. Based on our previously reported work, this study delved into the adsorption behavior and mechanism of different arsenic contaminants (p-ASA, ROX, As(V), and DMA) on the activated Fe-based metal-organic framework (activated MIL-88A). The results show that activated MIL-88A exhibits exceptional adsorption capabilities toward diverse arsenic pollutants. The adsorption process is endothermic, spontaneous, and viable, and chemical adsorption plays a leading role. The remarkable adsorption capacity of activated MIL-88A to various arsenic pollutants is primarily attributed to coordination, while hydrogen bonding also assumes a significant role in the elimination of p-ASA and ROX. Additionally, we investigated the impact of arsenic molecule shape and size, solution pH, and the existence of specific anions and dissolved organic matter (DOM) on the adsorption of different arsenic pollutants. This study can provide valuable insights for further exploring the selective adsorption of different kinds of arsenic species by Fe-based MOF materials and improving the adsorption efficiency of MOFs.

Abstract
A suitable adsorbent is essential in the process of removing hazardous vanadium(V) from actual groundwater. In this work, MIL-88A(Fe)/cotton (MC) was employed to eliminate V(V) from simulated vanadium-contaminated groundwater. The findings demonstrated that MC exhibited an exceptional performance in removing V(V), displaying a maximum adsorption capacity of 218.71 mg g-1. MC exhibits great promise as an adsorbent for V(V) elimination in an extensive pH range spanning 3 to 11. Even in the presence of high levels of competing ions such as Cl-, NO3-, and SO42-, MC demonstrated remarkable specificity in adsorbing V(V). The results of column experiments and co-occurring ions influence tests indicate that MC is a potential candidate for effectively treating actual vanadium-contaminated groundwater. The effluent could meet the vanadium content restriction of 50 μg L-1 required in China's drinking water sources. Regeneration of MC can be performed easily without experiencing significant capacity loss. The results obtained from this research indicate the promising potential of MC in mitigating vanadium pollution.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are emerging as advanced nanoporous materials to remove phenylarsenic acid, p-arsanilic acid (p-ASA), and roxarsone (ROX) in the aqueous solution, while MOFs are often present as powder state and encounter difficulties in recovery after adsorption, which greatly limit their practical application in the aqueous environments. Herein, MIL-101 (Fe), a typical MOF, was mixed with sodium alginate and gelatin to prepare MIL-101@CAGE by three-dimensional (3D) printing technology, which was then used as a separatable adsorbent to remove phenylarsenic acid in the aqueous solution. The structure of 3D-printed MIL-101@CAGE was first characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and thermogravimetry and differential thermogravimetry (TG-DTG). The octahedral morphology of MIL-101 (Fe) was found unchanged during the 3D printing process. Then, the adsorption process of MIL-101@CAGE on phenylarsenic acids was systematically investigated by adsorption kinetics, adsorption isotherms, adsorption thermodynamics, condition experiments, and cyclic regeneration experiments. Finally, the adsorption mechanism between MIL-101@CAGE and phenylarsenic acid was further investigated. The results showed that the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms were well fit, and according to the Langmuir fitting results, the maximum adsorption amounts of MIL-101@CAGE on p-ASA and ROX at 25 °C were 106.98 and 120.28 mg/g, respectively. The removal of p-ASA and ROX by MIL-101@CAGE remained stable over a wide pH range and in the presence of various coexisting ions. The regeneration experiments showed that the 3D-printed MIL-101@CAGE could still maintain a more than 90% removal rate after five cycles. The adsorption mechanism of this system might include π-π stacking interactions between the benzene ring on the phenylarsenic acids and the organic ligands in MIL-101@CAGE, hydrogen-bonding, and ligand-bonding interactions (Fe-O-As). This study provides a new idea for the scale preparation of a separatable and recyclable adsorbent based on MOF material for the efficient removal of phenylarsenic acid in the aqueous solution.

Abstract
Arsenic (As) is a highly toxic heavy metal and has been widely concerned for its hazardous environmental impact. Aromatic organic arsenic (AOCs) has been frequently used as an animal supplement to enhance feed utilization and prevent dysentery. The majority of organic arsenic could be discharged from the body and evolve as highly toxic inorganic arsenic that is hazardous to the environment and human health via biological conversion, photodegradation, and photo-oxidation. Current environmental issues necessitate the development and application of multifunctional porous materials in environmental remediation. Compared to the conventional adsorbent, such as activated carbon and zeolite, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibit a number of advantages, including simple synthesis, wide variety, simple modulation of pore size, large specific surface area, excellent chemical stability, and easy modification. In recent years, numerous scientists have investigated MOFs related materials involved with organic arsenic. These studies can be divided into three categories: detection of organic arsenic by MOFs, adsorption to remove organic arsenic by MOFs, and catalytic removal of organic arsenic by MOFs. Here, we conduct a critical analysis of current research findings and knowledge pertaining to the structural characteristics, application methods, removal properties, interaction mechanisms, and spectral analysis of MOFs. We summarized the application of MOFs in organic arsenic detection, adsorption, and catalytic degradation. Other arsenic removal technologies and conventional substances are also being investigated. This review will provide relevant scientific researchers with references.

Abstract
Developing novel synthetic strategies to downsize metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) from polydisperse crystals to monodisperse nanoparticles is of great importance for their potential bioapplications. In this work, a novel synthetic strategy termed gelothermal synthesis is proposed, in which coordination polymer gel is first prepared and followed by a thermal reaction to give the monodisperse MOF nanoparticles. This novel synthetic strategy successfully leads to the isolation of Materials of Institute Lavoisier (MIL-88), Cu(II)-fumarate MOFs (CufumDMF), and Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks (ZIF-8) nanoparticles. Focused on MIL-88A, the studies reveal that the size can be well-tuned from nanoscale to microscale without significant changes in polydispersity index (PDI) even in the case of in situ metal substitution. A possible mechanism is consequently proposed based on extensive studies on the gelothermal condition including sol-gel chemistry, thermal condition, kinds of solvents, and so on. The unique advantages of monodisperse MIL-88A nanoparticles over polydisperse ones are further demonstrated in terms of in vitro magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), cellular uptake, and drug-carrying properties.

Abstract
The removal of unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) has long been a concern because of its harmful effect on the environment and humans. This study aimed to prepare a novel graphene oxide/O-carboxymethyl chitosan (GO/CMC) composite adsorbent using the solution-blending method for the removal of UDMH from wastewater. The prepared GO/CMC was systematically characterized by Fourier-transform infrared, Raman, scanning electronic microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric, and zeta potential analyses. The effects of initial pH, temperature, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration, contact time, and recyclability on the UDMH adsorption behaviour of GO/CMC were studied. The adsorption kinetics was consistent with the pseudo-second-order kinetics model, and the adsorption process was mainly controlled by chemisorption. Adsorption isotherms indicated that the adsorption of UDMH by GO/CMC followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The adsorption mechanisms were mainly electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and surface complexation. Furthermore, GO/CMC composites can be used as a renewable and eco-friendly adsorbent for the removal of UDMH wastewater. The designed GO/CMC composites exhibited a relatively satisfactory recyclability and removal efficiency after five adsorption-desorption cycles.

Abstract
MIL-88A crystals with three different metal ligands (Fe, Al, FeAl) were prepared by hydrothermal method for the first time. The three materials' crystal structure and surface morphology are different, leading to different adsorption properties of Congo red (CR). The maximum adsorption capacities of MIL-88A (Fe), MIL-88A (FeAl), and MIL-88A (Al) are 607.7 mg · g-1, 536.4 mg · g-1, and 512.1 mg · g-1 respectively. In addition, MIL-88A was combined with chitosan (CS) respectively, and MIL-88A/CS composite sponge was prepared by the freeze-drying method, which not only solved the defect that MIL-88A powder was difficult to recover but also further improved the removal ability of CR by the adsorbent. The maximum adsorption capacities of MIL-88A (FeAl)/CS, MIL-88A (Fe)/CS, MIL-88A (Al)/CS, and CS are 1312 mg · g-1, 1056 mg · g-1, 996.7 mg · g-1, and 769.6 mg · g-1, respectively. The structure and physicochemical properties of the materials were analyzed by SEM, FTIR, XRD, TGA, BET, and Zeta. The adsorption process of CR follows pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir, Sips isotherm model. Combined with thermodynamic parameters, the adsorption behavior was described as endothermic monomolecular chemical adsorption. The removal of CR is attributed to electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding, metal coordination effects, and size-matching effects.

Abstract
The XANES/EXAFS data and quantum chemical simulations presented in this study demonstrate several features of the chemistry of arsenic compounds found in the condensates and solids generated in landfill gas (LFG) processing carried out for renewable natural gas (RNG) production. The XANES data show the decrease in the position of the absorption edge of As atoms, similar to that characteristic for sulfur-containing As solutes and solids. The EXAFS data show that the As-O and As-S distances in these matrixes are similar to those in thioarsenates. Quantum-chemical calculations demonstrated the close agreement between the experimental and modeled As-S and As-O distances determined for a range of methylated and thiolated arsenic solutes. These calculations also showed that the increase of the number of the As-S bonds in the coordination shell of arsenic is accompanied by a consistent decrease of the charges of As atoms. This decrease is correlated with the number of the As-S bonds, in agreement with the trend observed in the XANES data. These results provide insight into the intrinsic chemistry and reactivity of As species present in LFG matrixes; they may be helpful for the development of treatment methods to control arsenic in these systems.

Abstract
Adsorption and advanced oxidation processes, especially photocatalysis, are amongst the most common water treatment methodologies. Unfortunately, using each of these techniques independently does not fully eliminate the pollutants of diverse nature, which are present in wastewater. Here, an avenue for multifunctional materials for water treatment is opened by reporting for the first time the preparation, characterization, and study of the properties of a novel multifunctional nanocomposite with both adsorption and visible-light-driven photocatalysis abilities. These multifunctional nanocomposites, namely iron (II, III) oxide/poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-methacrylic acid)/silver-titanium dioxide (Fe3O4/P(NIPAM-co-MAA)/Ag-TiO2), are prepared by combining magnetic polymeric microspheres (Fe3O4/P(NIPAM-co-MAA)) with silver-decorated titanium dioxide nanoparticles (Ag-TiO2 NPs). Cationic dyes, such as basic fuchsin (BF), can be adsorbed by the nanocomposites thanks to the carboxylic groups of Fe3O4/P(NIPAM-co-MAA) microspheres. Concomitantly, the presence of Ag-TiO2 NPs endows the system with the visible-light-driven photocatalytic degradation ability toward antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin (CIP) and norfloxacin (NFX). Furthermore, the proposed nanocomposites show antibacterial activity toward Escherichia coli (E. coli), thanks to the presence of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). Due to the superparamagnetic properties of iron (II, III) oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs), the nanocomposites can be also recycled and reused, after the cleaning process, by using an external magnetic field.

Abstract
Poor water availability with the fast-growing population creates crucial issues for universal water security, and efficient approaches ought to be accomplished to balance the demand and supply. One of the most energy- and cost-effective methods for removing NaCl is adsorption desalination. Metal-organic frameworks with ceramic and nanoparticles are a comparatively new research route that increases the desalination capacity. The synthesized composites were examined for efficient and rapid removal of NaCl from NaCl solution or artificial seawater. The adsorption desalination properties were analyzed based on adsorption isotherm, adsorption kinetics, contact time, NaCl, and adsorbent dosage. The adsorptive desalination rate of ZnO@MIL88A(Fe)@α-cordierite composite was only decreased by 4% as the maximum loss after 5 consecutive cycles.

Abstract
Utilizing nanoscale zero valent iron (nZVI) to purify groundwater contaminated by arsenic species [As(III/V)] is an efficient technology, but the fast and severe aggregation of nZVI limits its practical applications. Herein, nZVI was anchored onto the mussel-inspired polydopamine-coated cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs-PDA-nZVI) as an efficient material for As groundwater remediation. In this set, the introduction of nZVI was expected to significantly enhance the arsenic removal property, while cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) endowed nZVI with ultrahigh dispersibility. The batch results showed that the maximum As adsorption capacities of CNCs-PDA-nZVI (i.e., 333.3 mg g-1 and 250.0 mg g-1 for As(III) and As(V), respectively) were ten times higher compared with those of pristine CNCs. The kinetics results revealed that chemical adsorption was dominant for As adsorption. The isotherms indicated that a homogeneous adsorption for As(III) and heterogenous adsorption for As(V) on the surface of CNCs-PDA-nZVI. The removal mechanisms for As by CNCs-PDA-nZVI included adsorption-oxidation, coprecipitation and inner-sphere complexation. Overall, the excellent arsenic removal efficiency makes CNCs-PDA-nZVI a promising material for the remediation of As polluted groundwater, and this in-situ anchoring strategy can be extended to overcome the aggregation bottleneck of other nanoparticles for various applications.

Abstract
Arsenic in drinking water is a serious threat for human health due to its toxic nature and therefore, its eliminating is highly necessary. In this study, the ability of different novel and robust machine learning (ML) approaches, including Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM), Extreme Gradient Boosting, Gradient Boosting Decision Tree, and Random Forest was implemented to predict the adsorptive removal of arsenate [As(V)] from wastewater over 13 different metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). A large experimental dataset was collected under various conditions. The adsorbent dosage, contact time, initial arsenic concentration, adsorbent surface area, temperature, solution pH, and the presence of anions were considered as input variables, and adsorptive removal of As(V) was selected as the output of the models. The developed models were evaluated using various statistical criteria. The obtained results indicated that the LightGBM model provided the most accurate and reliable response to predict As(V) adsorption by MOFs and possesses R2, RMSE, STD, and AAPRE (%) of 0.9958, 2.0688, 0.0628, and 2.88, respectively. The expected trends of As(V) removal with increasing initial concentration, solution pH, temperature, and coexistence of anions were predicted reasonably by the LightGBM model. Sensitivity analysis revealed that the adsorption process adversely relates to the initial As(V) concentration and directly depends on the MOFs surface area and dosage. This study proves that ML approaches are capable to manage complicated problems with large datasets and can be affordable alternatives for expensive and time-consuming experimental wastewater treatment processes.

Abstract
The high-throughput production of the eco-friendly MIL-88A(Fe) was achieved under mild reaction conditions with normal pressure and temperature. The as-prepared MIL-88A(Fe) exhibited efficient photo-Fenton catalytic ofloxacin (OFL) degradation upon visible light irradiation with good stability and reusability. The OFL (20.0 mg/L) was completely degraded within 50 min under visible light with the aid of MIL-88A(Fe) (0.25 g/L) and H2O2 (1.0 mL/L) in aqueous solution (pH = 7.0). The hydroxyl radicals (·OH) are the main active species during the photo-Fenton oxidation process. Meanwhile, the degradation intermediates and the corresponding degradation pathways were identified and proposed with the aid of both ultra-high performance liquid chromatography tandem quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Finally, the degradation product library was firstly established to identify intermediate transformation products (TPs) with their variation of concentration, and their corresponding toxicologic activities were assessed via Toxtree and T.E.S.T software as well. Finally, the MIL-88A is efficient and stable with four cycles' catalysis operations, demonstrating good potential for water treatment.

Abstract
In this work, flower-like molybdenum disulfide was constructed on the surface of ZIF-8-derived nitrogen-doped dodecahedral carbon (ZNC) for the electrocatalytic degradation of phenol. The flower-like nanostructure of MoS2@ZNC contributed to the exposure of more edge-active sites of MoS2. At the same time, Mo4+ and Mo6+ co-existed in MoS2@ZNC, which promoted the generation of H2O2 and •OH, and improved the catalytic activity of composite materials. In addition, electrochemical performance analysis showed that MoS2 loaded on the surface of ZNC significantly improved the redox capacity of the material, and the composite ratio of MoS2 and ZNC affected the structure and properties of MoS2@ZNC composites. Moreover, the electrochemical performance of prepared MoS2@ZNC was evaluated by the generation of hydroxyl (•OH) and the degradation efficiency of phenol. The results showed that MoS2@ZNC-2 had an excellent phenol degradation efficiency (98.8%) and COD removal efficiency (86.8%) within 120 min. Furthermore, MoS2@ZNC cathode still maintained good performance after being experimented with 20 times, indicated the excellent stability of MoS2@ZNC.

Abstract
While tremendous efforts have been dedicated to developing cellulose-based ultraviolet (UV)-blocking films, challenges still remain in simultaneously achieving high transparency, low haze and excellent UV shielding properties via simple and green strategy. Here, we present a facile and eco-friendly route to fabricate flexible, biodegradable and clear UV-shielding nano-MIL-88A(Fe)@carboxymethylated cellulose films (M(Fe)CCFs) via in situ synthesis of nano-MIL-88A(Fe) in carboxymethylated cellulose hydrogel followed by natural drying. The carboxymethylated cellulose film has high transmittance (93.2%) and low haze (1.8%). The introduction of nano-MIL-88A(Fe) endowed M(Fe)CCFs superior UV-shielding ability, while retaining high transmittance (81.5-85.3%) and low haze (2.5-4.9%). Moreover, M(Fe)CCFs showed stable UV blocking performance under UV irradiation, high temperature, acidic or alkaline conditions. Quite encouragingly, the UV-shielding ability of M(Fe)CCFs did not deteriorate, even after 30 days of immersion in aqueous solution, providing films with a long-term use capacity. Thus, M(Fe)CCFs show high potential in the UV protection field. Overall, these UV-blocking films with outstanding performances are a promising candidate to replace conventional film materials made from synthetic polymers in fields such as packaging and flexible electronics.

Abstract
With large specific surface area, abundant adsorption sites, flexible pore structure, and good water stability, Materials of Institute Lavoisier frameworks (MILs) have attracted increasing attention as effective environmental adsorbents. This review systematically analyzes and recapitulates recent progress in the synthesis and application of MIL-based adsorbents for the removal of aqueous heavy metal ions. Commonly used solvothermal, microwave, electrochemical, ultrasonic, and mechanochemical syntheses of MILs are first summarized and compared. Instead of focusing on adsorption process parameters, adsorption performances and governing mechanisms of virgin MILs, functional MILs, MIL-based composites, and carbonized MILs to representative metal(loid) ions (chromium, arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury) in water under various conditions are then systematically reviewed and discussed. In the end, this work also outlines prospects and future directions to promote the applications of MILs in treating heavy metal contaminated water.

Abstract
Organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) have been regarded as one of the most rebarbative classes of emerging contaminants due to their persistence and toxicity. In the current study, Fe-based metal organic framework (MIL-88A) was synthesized and employed as photo-Fenton catalyst for the degradation of tris-(2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate (TCPP), a typical representative of OPFRs. The observations indicated that visible light could boost the reduction of ≡FeIII to ≡FeII in Fe-O clusters of MIL-88A during the photo-Fenton system and consequently induce the transformation of H2O2 to OH, which realized efficient degradation of TCPP. Due to the excellent function of MIL-88A, the effective pH application range of photo-Fenton system was extended in comparison with traditional Fenton system. The degradation efficiency of TCPP was visibly influenced in presence of humic acid (HA). MIL-88A exhibited a commendable reusability and stability after 3 times cycle. As the photo-Fenton reaction proceeded, TCPP was disintegrated to several kinds of carboxylated, dechlorinated and hydroxylated products. The observations of metabolomics endorsed that the interference of intermediate products mixture on E. coli weakened to a certain extent. In conclusion, carboxylation, dechlorination, hydroxylation and oxidation of TCPP were likewise effective for its detoxification, revealing that heterogeneous photo-Fenton system driven by Fe-based metal organic framework will be an attractive and safe treatment technique for OPFRs control.

Abstract
A series of novel cerium-doped MIL-101-NH2 materials were synthesized using the solvothermal method for the simultaneous efficient removal of phosphate and As(V). According to the characterization results, cerium was successfully loaded onto MIL-101-NH2 and that Ce-MOFs might be generated during the loading process, which modified the crystal structure of MIL-101-NH2 and resulted in MOFs with different microstructures. In single-uptake systems containing only phosphate or As(V), isothermal adsorption experiments showed that 1Ce-MIL-101-NH2 exhibited better adsorption properties of phosphate and As(V) than MIL-101-NH2. Furthermore, the uptake amounts of phosphate and As(V) reached 341.5 mg/g and 249 mg/g, respectively. Superior uptake amounts for binary phosphate (167.36 mg/g) and As(V) (87.55 mg/g) were achieved with 1Ce-MIL-101-NH2. Kinetic experiments revealed a higher uptake rate of phosphate than of As(V). FT-IR and XPS analyses showed that the main mechanism for the removal of phosphate and As(V) from water by 1Ce-MIL-101-NH2 was the formation of an Fe/CeOP inner complex through ligand complexation and electrostatic attraction. Furthermore, 1Ce-MIL-101-NH2 exhibited high selectivity and excellent efficiency in removing phosphate and As(V) in contaminated spring water in the presence of competing anions; this further confirms the application potential of the novel adsorbent.

Abstract
The adsorption and recovery of dysprosium ions (Dy3+) from industrial wastewater are necessary but still challenging. Herein, we constructed a series of defect-containing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) [UiO-66-(COOH)2] using sodium benzoate (BCNa) as a modulator. Upon the formation of defects, the porosity and surface charge properties of the MOFs were improved, leading to a higher utilization ratio of active groups and higher adsorption capacities for Dy3+. The synthesized UiO-66-(COOH)2-B10 with an optimal addition of BCNa exhibited a superior adsorption capacity of 150.6 mg g-1. Fast adsorption occurred at ∼5 min, and equilibrium was reached at ∼60 min. Higher pH and temperature were found to be beneficial for boosting Dy3+ adsorption, and selective adsorption over other metal ions was achieved in a multicomponent solution. Further, FTIR spectroscopy and XPS investigations indicate that free carboxyl contributes to the capture of Dy3+. Thus, this work provides a promising strategy to enhance the utilization ratio of active groups and further adsorption performance.

Abstract
AbstractIn this study, graphene oxide (GO), iron modified clinoptilolite (FeZ), and composites of GO-FeZ (GOFeZA and GOFeZB) were synthesized and characterized using SEM, EDS, XRF, FTIR, and pHpzc. The arsenate uptake on composites of GOFeZA and GOFeZB was examined by both kinetic and column studies. The adsorption capacity increases with the increase of the initial arsenate concentration at equilibrium for both composites. At the initial arsenate concentration of 450 μg/L, the arsenate adsorption on GOFeZA and GOFeZB was 557.86 and 554.64 μg/g, respectively. Arsenate adsorption on both composites showed good compatibility with the pseudo second order kinetic model. The adsorption process was explained by the surface complexation or ion exchange and electrostatic attraction between GOFeZA or GOFeZB and arsenate ions in the aqueous solution due to the relatively low equilibrium time and fairly rapid adsorption of arsenate at the beginning of the process. The adsorption mechanism was confirmed by characterization studies performed after arsenate was loaded onto the composites. The fixed-bed column experiments showed that the increasing the flow rate of the arsenate solution through the column resulted in a decrease in empty bed contact time, breakthrough time, and volume of treated water. As a result of the continuous operation column study with regenerated GOFeZA, it was demonstrated that the regenerated GOFeZA has lower breakthrough time and volume of treated water compared to fresh GOFeZA.

Abstract
The exponential increase in textile cotton wastes generation and the ineffective processing mechanism to mitigate its environmental impact by developing functional materials with unique properties for geotechnical applications, wastewater, packaging, and biomedical engineering have become emerging global concerns among researchers. A comprehensive study of a processed cotton fibres isolation technique and their applications are highlighted in this review. Surface modification of cotton wastes fibre increases the adsorption of dyes and heavy metals removal from wastewater. Cotton wastes fibres have demonstrated high adsorption capacity for the removal of recalcitrant pollutants in wastewater. Cotton wastes fibres have found remarkable application in slope amendments, reinforcement of expansive soils and building materials, and a proven source for isolation of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs). Several research work on the use of cotton waste for functional application rather than disposal has been done. However, no review study has discussed the potentials of cotton wastes from source (Micro-Nano) to application. This review critically analyses novel isolation techniques of CNC from cotton wastes with an in-depth study of a parameter variation effect on their yield. Different pretreatment techniques and efficiency were discussed. From the analysis, chemical pretreatment is considered the most efficient extraction of CNCs from cotton wastes. The pretreatment strategies can suffer variation in process conditions, resulting in distortion in the extracted cellulose's crystallinity. Acid hydrolysis using sulfuric acid is the most used extraction process for cotton wastes-based CNC. A combined pretreatment process, such as sonication and hydrolysis, increases the crystallinity of cotton-based CNCs. The improvement of the reinforced matrix interface of textile fibres is required for improved packaging and biomedical applications for the sustainability of cotton-based CNCs.

Abstract
Arsenic is a toxic element for humans and a major pollutant in drinking water. Natural and anthropogenic sources can release As into water bodies. The countries with the greatest arsenic contamination issues lack the affordable technology to attain the maximum permitted concentrations. Adsorption can be a highly efficient and low-cost option for advanced water treatment, and the development of new cheap adsorbents is essential to expand access to water with a safe concentration of arsenic. This paper aims to review the state of the art of arsenic adsorption from water in continuous mode and the latest progress in the regeneration and recovery of arsenic. The disposal of the exhausted bed is also discussed. Fixed-bed column tests conducted with novel adsorbents like binary metal oxides and biosorbents achieved the highest adsorption capacities of 28.95 mg/g and 74.8 mg/g, respectively. Iron-coated materials presented the best results compared to adsorbents under other treatments. High recovery rates of 99% and several cycles of bed regeneration were achieved, which can aggregate economic value for the process. Overall, further pilot-scale research is recommended to evaluate the feasibility of novel adsorbents for industrial purposes.

Abstract
In this study, waste cotton yarn was used for the removal of Pb (II), Cd (II), Cr (III), and As (V) from aqueous solution. Adsorption of heavy metal ions was tested from single ion solutions, while competitive studies were performed using two- and four-ion mixtures. In order to change the structure of the material, cotton yarn was modified by sodium hydroxide solution. The surface of raw and modified cotton yarn were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and streaming potential method for determination of an isoelectric point. Sorption studies were performed on the basis of pH, kinetics, isotherms, and desorption results. It has been shown that waste cotton yarn modification, typically, does not improve the sorption capacity of the material and that the unmodified material could be used for the removal of examined heavy metal ions. Selectivity was in order Pb > Cd > Cr > As. Desorption studies have indicated to the possible reusability of the sorbent only in the case of Pb removal. A potential application of spent waste sorbent for the soil quality improvement has been considered.
