Abstract
In this work, an agar-graphene oxide hydrogel was prepared to adsorb Cd (II) and Methyl Violet (MV) from water. The hydrogel was synthesised and characterised through SEM and EDS. Kinetic, equilibrium and regeneration studies were carried out, in which Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips isotherm models were fitted to the equilibrium experimental data; and regarding the kinetics, studies were conducted by modelling experimental data considering both empirical and phenomenological models. SEM and EDS have shown the composite present a 3D-disordered porous microstructure and that it is mainly constituted of C and O. Sips model fitted well to Cd (II) (R2 = 0.968 and χ2 = 0.176) and MV (R2 = 0.993 and χ2 = 0.783). The qmax values for MV and Cd (II) were 76.65 and 11.70 mg.g-1, respectively. Pseudo-order models satisfactorily described Cd (II) and MV adsorption kinetics with R2 > 0.90. Regeneration experiments revealed an outstanding reuse capacity of the adsorbent after three cycles of adsorption-desorption for both Cd (II) and MV. This study evidences the possibility of a feasible adsorbent for Cd (II) and MV removal from water for successive cycles of use.

Abstract
In this study, a Sodium alginate-g-poly (acrylamide-clay)/TiO2 hydrogel nanocomposite [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2] was synthesized using the biopolymer sodium alginate (SA), acrylamide (AM), and bentonite clay (Bn) as hybrid materials embedded with titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2NPs) for the removal of toxic Congo Red (CR) dye from an aqueous solution. The [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2] nanocomposite has been described on the basis of thermal stability, morphological analysis, estimation of functional group, and crystalline/amorphous character by TGA, EFSEM/EDX, TEM, FT-IR, and XRD analysis, respectively. The effects of operational parameters toward the CR dye adsorption on [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2], including contact time, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration, initial pH, and temperature were investigated. The maximum adsorption efficiency was found to be 185.12 mg/g for [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2] in 100 mg/L of solution CR at pH 6.0 within 1 h. The equilibrium isotherms, kinetics, and thermodynamics parameters of adsorption were examined, and results showed that the isotherm fitted the Freundlich model and the kinetics adsorption model of CR followed pseudo-first-order, thus indicating physisorption of anionic-CR onto the sorbent due to the development of an electrostatic attraction bond. Thermodynamic parameters for [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2] have values (ΔG and ΔH) reflecting the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption processes. Moreover, [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2] presented outstanding excellent reusability and recyclability with a relatively best removal percentage as compared to [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)] and suggested their applicability towards the textile industry and water purification purposes.

Abstract
Due to the expansion of industrial activities, the concentration of dyes in water has been increasing. The dire need to remove these pollutants from water has been heavily discussed. This study focuses on the reproducible and sustainable solution for wastewater treatment and dye annihilation challenges. Adsorption has been rated the most practical way of the several decolorization procedures due to its minimal initial investment, convenient utility, and high-performance caliber. Hydrogels, which are three-dimensional polymer networks, are notable because of their potential to regenerate, biodegrade, absorb bulky amounts of water, respond to stimuli, and have unique morphologies. Natural polysaccharide hydrogels are chosen over synthetic ones because they are robust, bioresorbable, non-toxic, and cheaply accessible. This study has covered six biopolymers, including chitosan, cellulose, pectin, sodium alginate, guar gum, and starch, consisting of their chemical architecture, origins, characteristics, and uses. The next part describes these polysaccharide-based hydrogels, including their manufacturing techniques, chemical alterations, and adsorption effectiveness. It is deeply evaluated how size and shape affect the adsorption rate, which has not been addressed in any prior research. To assist the readers in identifying areas for further research in this subject, limitations of these hydrogels and future views are provided in the conclusion.

Abstract
With sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) as cross-linker, Persimmon tannin-chitosan microspheres (PT-CS) were synthesized by hydrothermal for removing U(VI) from acidic effluent. The batch experiments indicated that PT-CS adsorbed U(VI) most effectively at pH 1.5, the maximum adsorption capacity for PT-CS was 245 mg/g. Compared to pure CS dissolved at pH 3, PT-CS still maintain high stability at pH 1. Moreover, single system of common metal ions in rare earth wastewater only slightly affected the adsorption of uranium at pH 1.5, but this process was inhibited about 30% at pH 5. Those results indicated that the selectivity of PT-CS for uranium removal could be controlled by regulating the pH and there are excellent potentials for PT-CS using in acid metal water treatment. Its adsorption selectivity and ability to adapt different condition was demonstrated with uraniferous rare earth wastewater treatment. The adsorption for PT-CS to U(VI) were well fitted for both Langmuir isothern and pseudo-secondary kinetic model equations, and that meant chemisorption dominated the removal process. Spectroscopic analyses confirmed that the adsorption of U(VI) occurred via surface complexation by -OH and ion exchange with Na+. Therefore, this study provides a high-efficiency, low-cost, valuable and highly adaptable method for the treatment of acidic uranium-containing effluents.

Abstract
Phenols, dyes, and metal ions present in industrial wastewater can adversely affect the environment and leach biological carcinogens. Given that the current research focuses only on the removal of one or two of those categories. Herein, this work reports a novel ZIF-8@IL-MXene/Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (NIPAM) nanocomposite hydrogel that can efficiently and conveniently absorb and separate multiple pollutants from industrial wastewater. Ionic liquid (IL) was grafted onto MXene surfaces using a one-step method, and then incorporated into NIPAM monomer solutions to obtain the IL-MXene/PNIPAM composite hydrogel via in-situ polymerization. ZIF-8@IL-MXene/PNIPAM nanocomposite hydrogels were obtained by in-situ growth of ZIF-8 on the pore walls of composite hydrogels. As-prepared nanocomposite hydrogel showed excellent mechanical properties and can withstand ten repeated compressions without any damage, the specific surface area increased by 100 times, and the maximum adsorption capacities for p-nitrophenol (4-NP), crystal violet (CV), and copper ion (Cu2+) were 198.40, 325.03, and 285.65 mg g-1, respectively, at room temperature. The VPTTs of all hydrogels ranged from 33 to 35 °C, so the desorption process can be achieved in deionized water at 35-40 °C, and its adsorption capacities after five adsorption-desorption cycles decreased to 79%, 91%, and 29% for 4-NP, CV, and Cu2+, respectively. The adsorption data fitting results follow pseudo-second-order kinetics and Freundlich models, which is based on multiple interactions between the functional groups contained in hydrogels and adsorbent molecules. The hydrogel is the first to realize the high-efficiency adsorption of phenols, dyes and metal ions in industrial wastewater simultaneously, and the preparation process of hydrogels is environmentally friendly. Also, giving hydrogel multifunctional adsorption is beneficial to promote the development of multifunctional adsorption materials.

Abstract
Existing Ni2+ heavy metal ions in an aqueous medium are highly hazardous for living organisms and humans. Therefore, designing low-cost adsorbents with enhanced effectiveness is essential for removing nickel ions to safeguard public health. In this study, a novel green nanocomposite hydrogel was synthesized through the free radical solution and bulk polymerization method, and its capability to remove divalent nickel ions from aqueous media was examined. The bionanocomposite hydrogel named as SA-g-poly(AAm)/HL-CoFe2O4 was produced by grafting polyacrylamide (AAm) onto sodium alginate (SA) in the presence of a magnetic composite recognized as HL-CoFe2O4, where HL represents hydrolyzed Luffa Cylindrica. By employing FT-IR, XRD, VSM, SEM, EDX-Map, BET, DLS, HPLC, and TGA techniques, morphological evaluation and characterization of the adsorbents were carried out. The performance of the adsorption process was studied under varying operational conditions including pH, temperature, contact duration, initial concentration of pollutant ions, and adsorbent dosage. HPLC analysis proved the non-toxic structure of the bionanocomposite hydrogel. The number of unreacted acrylamide monomers within the hydrogel matrix was measured at 20.82 mg/kg. The optimum conditions was discovered to be pH = 6, room temperature, adsorbent dosage of 1 of g.L-1, initial Ni2+ concentration of 10 mg.L-1, and contact time of 100 min, and the maximum adsorption efficiency at optimal state was calculated as 70.09, 90.25, and 93.83 % for SA-g-poly (AAm), SA-g-poly(AAm)/HL, and SA-g-poly(AAm)/HL-CoFe2O4 samples, respectively. Langmuir isotherm model was in good agreement with the experimental data and the maximum adsorption capacity of SA-g-poly(AAm), SA-g-poly(AAm)/HL, and SA-g-poly(AAm)/HL-CoFe2O4 samples was calculated to be 31.37, 43.15, and 45.19 mg.g-1, respectively. The adsorption process, according to kinetic studies, follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Investigations on thermodynamics also demonstrated that the process is exothermic and spontaneous. Exploring the interference effect of co-existing ions showed that the adsorption efficiency has decreased with concentration enhancement of Ca2+ and Na+ cations in aqueous medium. Furthermore, the adsorption/desorption assessments revealed that after 8 consecutive cycles, there had been no noticeable decline in the adsorption effectiveness. Finally, actual wastewater treatment outcomes demonstrated that the bionanocomposite hydrogel successfully removes heavy metal pollutants from shipbuilding industry effluent. Therefore, the findings revealed that the newly fabricated bionanocomposite hydrogel is an efficient, cost-effective, easy-separable, and green adsorbent that could be potentially utilized to remove divalent nickel ions from wastewater.

Abstract
The application of green synthesized nanocomposites for the prevention of environmental pollution is increasing nowadays. Here, a green composite has been synthesized by embedding MnO2 on Rauvolfia tetraphylla leaves using its leaf extract hereinafter termed as MnO2@RTL, and demonstrated for crystal violet (CV) dye removal from simulated and real wastewater. The surface properties of the material were determined by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) surface area, pHZPC, and zeta potential. The material exhibits a remarkable adsorption capacity of 61.162 mg/g at 328 K and pH 7. The adsorption was best fitted with Pseudo-second-order kinetic (R2 = 0.998) and a combination of Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm model (R2 = 0.994-0.999). The thermodynamic study revealed spontaneous (ΔG values = - 2.988 to - 4.978 kJ/mol) and endothermic (ΔH values = 6.830 to 11.018 kJ/mol) adsorption. After adsorption, 80% regeneration occurred with 50% methanol, and recycled up to five times. Advantageously, the material was able to remove CV dye in the presence of coexistent ions and from industrial wastewater, confirming field applicability. The adsorption capacity of the material is superior to previously reported materials. The standard deviation and relative standard deviations have been evaluated to be 0.000422-0.000667 and 0.473-0.749%, which suggests the reliability of the experiments. The exhausted material, after recycling, was pyrolyzed to overcome the disposal problem. It was established as a secondary adsorbent with 73% efficiency which makes the material win-win. The material showed antibacterial properties with Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with a zone of inhibition 5 mm.

Hydrolysis effects on the water uptake of starch-g-glycidyl methacrylate ( GMASt)/dimethylacrylamide (DMAAm)-based hydrogels for potential agricultural purposes. Int J Biol Macromol 2023; 253:127654. Abstract
This work assessed the effect of different hydrolysis periods on the properties of hydrogels based on 75 % w w-1 of N,N'-dimethyl acrylamide (DMAAm) and 25 % w w-1 of starch-g-(glycidyl methacrylate) (GMASt). FTIR results confirmed the conversion of ester groups into carboxylic acids and carboxylates, besides forming a keto-enol tautomer due to the peeling reaction of starch. For DMAAm, the hydrolysis mostly converted amide into carboxylate groups. The morphology, thermal stability, and the mechanical properties of the predominantly amorphous matrices (as confirmed by XRD results) did not drastically change even after 10 days of hydrolysis in alkali media. However, the thermogravimetric analysis results suggested that DMAAm partially protected GMASt from the hydrolysis. The swelling degree of the matrix increased from (10.1 ± 2.1) g g-1 to (61.9 ± 2.6) g g-1 after 1 day of hydrolysis, but no statistical differences (at 95 % of significance) were observed for the matrices hydrolyzed for longer periods, confirming that the maximum hydrolysis occurred within 24 h. The results confirmed that the hydrolysis increased the water uptake of the GMASt/DMAAm-based matrices, making appealing for uses as a water retentor for agricultural purposes.

Abstract
A composite (ZS-UiO-66-NH2) zirconium crosslinked sodium alginate gel beads (ZS)-metal-organic skeleton (UiO-66-NH2) were prepared in this study through in-situ growth under simple, green and mild conditions for removal of the salicylic acid (SA) and sulfosalicylic acid (SSA) from water. The physicochemical properties of ZS-UiO-66-NH2 were characterized using various analytical methods. The influencing factors in the adsorption process including pH of solution, amount of adsorbent, coexisting ions, adsorption time, reaction temperature and equilibrium concentration of SA/SSA were performed in batch adsorption. The experimental results indicated that ZS-UiO-66-NH2 had high stability and could achieve efficient adsorption of SA/SSA in broad pH range (2-9) and salinity (0-0.2 mol·L-1). SA and SSA adsorbed on the composite at 293 K reached high values of 193 and 167 mg·g-1 from Langmuir model, respectively. Kinetic and isotherm studies demonstrated that the adsorption processes were mainly multilayer heterogeneous chemisorption. Thermodynamic data manifested that the two processes were exothermic and spontaneous with increasing entropy. ZS-UiO-66-NH2 can effectively remove SA/SSA from simulated wastewater under different pH and can be reused after elution with a NaHCO3 solution (5 mmol·L-1). The ZS-UiO-66-NH2 composite has great potential for removing SA/SSA from actual water bodies.

Abstract
Biomaterials-based adsorbents have emerged as a sustainable and promising solution for water purification, owing to their eco-friendly nature and remarkable adsorption capacities. In this study, a biocomposite hydrogel was prepared by the incorporation of activated carbon derived from pomegranate peels (PPAC) in tragacanth gum (TG). The hydrogel biocomposite (PPAC/TG) showed a porous structure, a negative surface charge at a pH of more than 4.9, and good stability in aqueous media. The adsorption properties of the PPAC/TG hydrogel biocomposite were assessed for the removal of crystal violet dye (CV) from aqueous solutions using a batch adsorption. The equilibrium adsorption data followed the Sips isotherm model, as supported by the calculated R2 (>0.99), r-χ2 (<64), and standard error values (<16). According to the Sips model, the maximum values of the adsorption capacity of PPAC/TG were 455.61, 470.86, and 477.37 mg/g at temperatures of 25, 30, and 35 °C, respectively. The adsorption kinetic of CV onto the PPAC/TG hydrogel biocomposite was well described by the pseudo-second-order model with R2 values more than 0.999 and r-χ2 values less than 12. Thermodynamic studies confirmed that the CV dye adsorption was spontaneous and endothermic. Furthermore, the prepared hydrogel exhibited excellent reusability, retaining its adsorption capacity even after being used more than five times. Overall, this study concludes that the prepared PPAC/TG exhibited a significant adsorption capacity for cationic dyes, indicating its potential as an effective and eco-friendly adsorbent for water treatment.

Abstract
Methylene blue (MB) is a prevalent pollutant in organic wastewater. For this research, eucalyptus wood was used as a template, into which quartz powder dissolved in NaOH was grown, resulting in a low-cost and efficient porous silica adsorbent material (PSAM). This PSAM successfully replaces expensive materials for MB removal from water. Through the application of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, it became evident that PSAM displays a porous slit pore structure characterized by numerous active sites, leading to an impressive maximum specific surface area of 88.05 m²/g. The central objective of this research was to investigate the impact of experimental temperature, initial dye concentration, and pH on the adsorption process. The adsorption kinetics were analyzed using the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models, as well as the Langmuir model. Remarkably, PSAM exhibited a substantial maximum adsorption capacity of 90.01 mg/g at 293 K, achieving an adsorption rate of over 85% within a mere 10-minute timeframe. The thermodynamic analysis revealed that the adsorption of MB onto PSAM was characterized by spontaneity and accompanied by heat absorption. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and SEM comparisons of PSAM before and after adsorption indicated that MB adsorption primarily occurred through electrostatic gravitational binding. In comparison to other adsorbents, PSAM exhibited exceptional efficacy in removing MB from water.

Abstract
Sodium alginate is a natural macromolecule widely used because of its abundance, low cost of acquisition, and rich hydroxyl and carboxyl groups in the matrix. The physical modification of sodium alginate can be made by blending it with polymer materials. The so-yielded alginate complex is commonly unstable in an aqueous environment due to alginate backbones' high hydrophilicity. The chemical modification can remove its hydrophilic groups and introduce special functional groups or polymers onto the alginate backbones to provide excess reaction sites for specific reactions and effective complexation sites for accommodating antibiotics, dyes, heavy metal ions, and radioactive elements. Sodium alginate has been used in water treatment engineering under revised modification protocols. This article also reviews the latest modification protocols for sodium alginate and outlines the novel application of the modified materials. The limitations of modified sodium alginate materials are described, and research prospects are put forward.

Abstract
The present study is devoted to the removal of crystal violet dye using the synthesized barium alginate/carbon composites abbreviated as BA (barium alginate), BAAC (barium alginate/activated carbon), BASC (barium alginate/starch carbon), and BASSC (barium alginate/starch carbon modified with CTAB). The adsorptive removal of crystal violet as a function of contact time, pH of solution, composite dose, initial dye concentration, and temperature was studied. The uptake of crystal violet (CV) dye for the composites was recorded in the range of 36 mg g-1 to 50 mg g-1 at pH 8.03 ± 0.03 for an equilibrium time of 120 min. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms in compliance with the CV sorption onto BA/carbon composites corroborated the utmost fit of pseudo-second-order and Freundlich isotherm models, respectively. The recycling process was achieved using the barium alginate-treated bead carbons for different initial CV dye concentrations of 10-30 mg L-1 with a scope of zero disposal. The practicability of BA/carbon composites in a groundwater sample spiked with 30 mg L-1 of CV was successfully achieved with a removal efficiency of about 65-74%. Characterization studies for the composites using FTIR, SEM (with EDS), XRD, TGA, and BET were carried out and discussed in the paper.

Abstract
Utilizing Glutaraldehyde crosslinked sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-GA) hydrogel and its nanographene oxide composite (CMC-GA-GOx), an effective carboxymethyl cellulose-graphene oxide biobased composites adsorbent was developed for the adsorption removal of methylene blue (MB) cationic dye contaminate from industrial wastewater. The CMC-GA-GOx composites developed were characterized using FTIR, RAMAN, TGA, SEM, and EDX analysis instruments. Through batch experiments, several variables affecting the removal of MB dye, including the biocomposites GO:CMC composition, adsorption time, pH and temperature, initial MB concentration, adsorbent dosage, and NaCl concentration, were investigated under different conditions. The maximum dye removal percentages ranged between 93 and 98%. They were obtained using biocomposites CMC-GA-GO102 with 20% GO weight percent, adsorption time 25 min, adsorption temperature 25 °C, MB concentrations 10-30 ppm, adsorption pH 7.0, and 0.2 g adsorbent dose. The experimental data of the adsorption process suit the Langmuir isotherm more closely with a maximal monolayer adsorption capacity of 76.92 mg/g. The adsorption process followed the kinetic model of pseudo-second order. The removal of MB was exothermic and spontaneous from a thermodynamic standpoint. In addition, thermodynamic results demonstrated that adsorption operates most effectively at low temperatures. Finally, the reusability of the developed CMC-GA-GO102 has been proved through 10 successive cycles where only 14% of the MB dye removal percentage was lost. These results suggest that the developed CMC-GA-GO102 composite may be an inexpensive and reusable adsorbent for removing organic cationic dyes from industrial wastewater.

Abstract
The global energy shortage and environmental degradation are two major issues of concern in today's society. The production of renewable energy and the treatment of pollutants are currently the mainstream research directions in the field of photocatalysis. In addition, over the last decade or so, graphene (GR) has been widely used in photocatalysis due to its unique physical and chemical properties, such as its large light-absorption range, high adsorption capacity, large specific surface area, and excellent electronic conductivity. Here, we first introduce the unique properties of graphene, such as its high specific surface area, chemical stability, etc. Then, the basic principles of photocatalytic hydrolysis, pollutant degradation, and the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 are summarized. We then give an overview of the optimization strategies for graphene-based photocatalysis and the latest advances in its application. Finally, we present challenges and perspectives for graphene-based applications in this field in light of recent developments.

Abstract
Decorating nanomaterials on graphene oxide (GO) can enhance its adsorption capacity and removal efficiency of water pollutants. In this study, for the first time, nano-sized polylactic acid (PLA) has been successfully decorated on the surface of GO through a facile synthesis approach. The adsorptive efficiency of GO-PLA for removing methylene blue (MB) and tetracycline (TC) from an aqueous solution was examined. The characterization confirmed the successful decoration of PLA on GO nanosheets with the nano size of PLA. It was hypothesized that the PLA was decorated on the surface of GO through covalent bonding between oxygen-containing functional groups and lactide molecules. The optimum adsorption parameters determined were at the adsorbent dose of 0.5 g L-1, pH 4, contact time of 120 min, and temperature of 318 K. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model described the contaminants' adsorption behaviour, and the intraparticle diffusion model revealed that both surface adsorption and intraparticle diffusion controlled the adsorption process. Langmuir isotherm model best described the adsorption behaviour of the pollutants on GO-PLA and demonstrated the maximum monolayer uptake capacities of MB (332.5 mg g-1) and TC (223.7 mg g-1). The adsorption results indicated that the uptake capacities of GO-PLA in comparison to GO have increased by approximately 70% and 110% for MB and TC, respectively. These observations reflect the remarkable role of nano-sized PLA that enhanced the adsorption capacity due to its additional functional group and larger surface area.

Abstract
Emerging organic pollutants (EOPs) are a category of pollutants that are relatively new to the environment and recently garnered a lot of attention. The majority of EOPs includes endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), pesticides, dyes and pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs). Exposure to contaminated water has been linked to an increase in incidences of malnutrition, intrauterine growth retardation, respiratory illnesses, liver malfunctions, eye and skin diseases, and fatalities. Consequently, there is a critical need for wastewater remediation technologies which are effective, reliable, and economical. Conventional wastewater treatment methods have several shortcomings that can be addressed with the help of nanotechnology. Unique characteristics of nanomaterials (NMs) make them intriguing and efficient alternative in wastewater treatment strategies. This review emphasis on the occurrence of divers emerging organic pollutants (EOPs) in water and their effective elimination via different NMs based methods with in-depth mechanisms. Furthermore, it also delves the toxicity assessment of NMs and critical challenges, which are crucial steps for practical implementations.

Abstract
One of the main problems with water pollution is dye contamination of rivers, industrial effluents, and water sources. It has endangered the world's sources of drinking water. Several remediation strategies have been carefully developed and tested to minimize this ominous picture. Due to their appealing practical and financial benefits, adsorption methods in particular are often listed as one of the most popular solutions to remediate dye-contaminated water. Biopolymer-based hydrogel nanocomposites are a cutting-edge class of materials with a wide range of applications that are effective in removing organic dyes from the environment. Since the incorporation of various materials into hydrogel matrices generated composite materials with distinct characteristics, these unique materials were often alluded to as ideal adsorbents. The fundamental emphasis of the conceptual and critical review of the literature in this research is the significant potential of hydrogel nanocomposites (HNCs) to remediate dye-contaminated water (especially for articles from the previous five years). The review also provides knowledge for the development of biopolymer-based HNCs, prospects, and opportunities for future research. It is also focused on optimum conditions for dye adsorption processes along with their adsorption kinetics and isotherm models. In summary, the information gained in this review research may contribute to a strengthened scientific rationale for the practical and efficient application of these novel adsorbent materials.

Abstract
ZnFe2O4 is a highly desirable catalyst due to its exceptional photo-response in the visible light region, but various drawbacks, such as rapid recombination of photo-generated electron-hole pairs and severe particle agglomeration, make it difficult to use. In this study, a co-precipitation approach was used to create ZnFe2O4/HNT (ZF/HNTs) composites. XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR, BET, and DRS were used to characterize the ZF/HNT composites. Furthermore, the effectiveness of removing crystal violet under simulated visible light irradiation was used to assess photocatalytic activity. The results showed that ZnFe2O4 with typical diameters of around 20 nm was significantly distributed on halloysite nanotubes. Because of the synergistic impact of the improved agglomeration phenomena of ZnFe2O4 and the decreased recombination rate of photo-generated electrons and holes, all of the composites had superior photocatalytic performance than pure ZnFe2O4. The ZF/HNTs-11 composite exhibited the highest removal performance, removing 96.7% of the sample in less than 150 min. In addition, the composite was very stable and reusable. Consequently, ZF/HNTs-11 composite is an effective catalyst for treating pollutants found in wastewater.

Abstract
Waste rock from bentonite mining (WRBM) was evaluated as potential adsorbents for removing crystal violet (CV) and methylene blue (MB) cationic dyes from contaminated water. The waste samples (AM01, AM02, and AM03) were collected from different locations of the bentonite mine and characterized through X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, N2 adsorption/desorption, and cation exchange capacity. The adsorption efficiency of CV and MB dyes was investigated through the effect of initial concentration, contact time, pH, the dosage of adsorbent, and temperature. Sample AM02 showed the largest surface area (69.13 m2/g) and the best adsorptive performance for both dyes, with removal more significant than 90%. The adsorption of CV and MB in the waste followed the Langmuir isothermal model. Samples AM01 and AM02 followed the pseudo-second-order (PSO) kinetic model, while AM03 better fitted the Elovich kinetic model. The enthalpy (ΔH), entropy (ΔS), and Gibbs energy (ΔG) were evaluated as adsorption parameters. The process of adsorption of CV and MB dyes in the waste was predominantly endothermic and occurred spontaneously. WRBM samples proved to be a promising candidate for removing cationic dyes present in water.

Abstract
This study aims to develop an alternating polyketone containing cationic groups in one and four alternating positions for increased functionality. A novel polyarylidene ketone was synthesized using simple condensation polymerization of terephthaldehyde and 2,5-hexane dione (PAK) The physicochemical properties of the resulting polymer were evaluated using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, UV-Visible absorbance, fluorescence, and SEM investigations. The findings show that the polymer is amorphous, has good thermal stability, and emits red light. It can also be used as a dye adsorbent in aqueous solutions, with high selectivity for the cationic dye methylene blue (MB). The adsorbent efficiency of PAK was measured as a function of pH, dosage, and initial dye concentration; the greatest dye removal of 96 % was obtained at pH 10, 50 mg dosage, and initial dye concentration of 20 ppm. Kinetics and isotherms were studied, showing that the pseudo-second-order model described kinetic data better than Freundlich and Langmuir and revealed a satisfactory chemisorption process. This study suggests that PAK can purify MB dyeing wastewater, remove Zn2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Cd2+, Fe3+ metal ions well, and is selective for Fe3+ and Cu2+; ion adsorption is chelating-based.

Abstract
A new nanocomposite based on Cloisite 30B clay modified with ZnO and Ag2O nanoparticles (Cloisite 30B/ZnO/Ag2O) was synthesized as an effective catalyst in the sono-photocatalytic process of crystal violet (CV) and methylene blue (MB) dyes simultaneously. The characteristics and catalytic activity of Cloisite 30B/ZnO/Ag2O nanocomposite were investigated under different conditions. The specific active surface for Cloisite 30B/ZnO/Ag2O nanocomposite was 18.29 m2/g. Additionally, the catalytic activity showed that Cloisite 30B/ZnO/Ag2O nanocomposite (CV: 99.21%, MB: 98.43%) compared to Cloisite 30B/Ag2O (CV: 85.38%, MB: 83.62%) and Ag2O (CV: 68.21%, MB: 66.41%) has more catalytic activity. The catalytic activity of Cloisite 30B/ZnO/Ag2O using the sono-photocatalytic process had the maximum efficiency (CV: 99.21%, MB: 98.43%) at pH 8, time of 50 min, amount of 40 mM H2O2, catalyst dose of 0.5 g/L, and the concentration of 'CV + MB' of 5 mg/L. The catalyst can be reused in the sono-photocatalytic process for up to six steps. According to the results, •OH and h+ were effective in the degradation of the desired dyes using the desired method. Data followed the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The method used in this research is an efficient and promising method to remove dyes from wastewater.

Abstract
A novel magnetic adsorbent based on hydrolyzed Luffa Cylindrica (HLC) was synthesized through the chemical co-precipitation technique, and its potential was evaluated in the adsorptive elimination of divalent nickel ions from water medium. Morphological assessment and properties of the adsorbent were performed using FTIR, SEM, EDX, XRD, BET, and TEM techniques. The effect of pH, temperature, time and nickel concentration on the removal efficiency was studied, and pH = 6, room temperature (25 °C), contact time of 60 min, and Ni2+ ion concentration of 10 mg.L-1 were introduced as the optimal values. At optimal conditions, the removal efficiency of Ni2+ ions using HLC and HLC/CoFe2O4 magnetic composite was calculated as 96.38 and 99.13%, respectively. The adsorption process kinetic followed a pseudo-first-order model. Langmuir isotherm was suitable for modelling the experimental data of the Ni2+ adsorption. The maximum elimination capacity of HLC and HLC/CoFe2O4 samples was calculated as 42.75 and 44.42 mg g-1, respectively. Furthermore, thermodynamic investigations proved the spontaneous and exothermic nature of the process. The adsorption efficiency was decreased with increasing the content of Ca2+ and Na + cations in aqueous media. During reusability of the synthesized adsorbents, it was found that after 8 cycles, no significant decrease has occurred in the adsorption efficiency. In addition, real wastewater treatment results proved that HLC/CoFe2O4 magnetic composite has an excellent performance in removal of heavy metals pollutant from shipbuilding effluent.

Abstract
The performance of poly(methacrylic acid-co-acrylamide)/Cloisite 30B nanocomposite (poly(MAA-co-AAm)/Cl30B) hydrogel to adsorb methylene blue (MB) dye from aqueous solutions was investigated and the adsorption efficiency was improved by incorporating Cloisite 30B nanoclays in the adsorbent structure. The hydrogels were analyzed using FTIR, XRD, TGA, and SEM analysis. The effect of adsorbent dose, temperature, initial dye concentration, contact time, and pH on the efficiency of the adsorption process was investigated. Adsorption efficiencies of 98.57 and 97.65% were obtained for poly(MAA-co-AAm)/Cl30B nanocomposite and poly(MAA-co-AAm) hydrogels, respectively. Kinetic study revealed that the adsorption process followed pseudo-first-order kinetic model and α-parameter values of 6.558 and 1.113 mg/g.min were obtained for poly(MAA-co-AAm)/Cl30B nanocomposite and poly(MAA-co-AAm) hydrogels, respectively indicating a higher ability of nanocomposite hydrogel in adsorbing MB-dye. In addition, the results of the intra-particle diffusion model showed that various mechanisms such as intra-particle diffusion and liquid film penetration are important in the adsorption. The Gibbs free energy parameter of adsorption process showed negative values of -256.52 and -84.071 J/mol.K for poly(MAA-co-AAm)/Cl30B nanocomposite and poly(MAA-co-AAm) hydrogels indicating spontaneous nature of the adsorption. The results of enthalpy and entropy showed that the adsorption process was exothermic and random collisions were reduced during the adsorption. The equilibrium data for the adsorption process using poly(MAA-co-AAm)/Cl30B nanocomposite and poly(MAA-co-AAm) hydrogels followed Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity values of 32.83 and 21.92 mg/g were obtained for poly(MAA-co-AAm)/Cl30B nanocomposite and poly(MAA-co-AAm) hydrogels, respectively. Higher adsorption capacity of nanocomposite hydrogel was attributed to the presence of Cloisite 30B clay nanoparticles in its structure. In addition, results of RL, n, and E parameters showed that the adsorption process was performed optimally and physically.

Abstract
Carbon-based materials are among the most biosynthesized nanocomposites with excellent tunability and multifunctionality features, that other materials fail to demonstrate. Naturally occurring materials, such as alginate (Alg), can be combined and modified by linking the active moieties of various carbon-based materials of interest, such as graphene oxide (GO), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and mesoporous silica nanocomposite (MSN), among others. Thus, several types of robust nanocomposites have been fabricated and deployed for environmental remediation of emerging pollutants, such as pharmaceutical compounds, toxic dyes, and other environmentally hazardous contaminants of emerging concern. Considering the above critiques and added features of carbon-based nanocomposites, herein, an effort has been made to spotlight the synergies of GO, CNTs, and MSN with Alg and their role in mitigating emerging pollutants. From the information presented in this work, it can be concluded that Alg is a material that has excellent potential. However, its use still requires further tests in different areas and other materials to carry out a holistic investigation that exploits its versatility for environmental remediation purposes.

Abstract
With the growing scarcity of water, the remediation of water polluted with heavy metals is the need of hour. The present research work is aimed to address this problem by adsorbing heavy metals ions (Pb (II) and Cr (VI)) on modified graphene oxide having an excess of carboxylic acid groups. For this, graphene oxide (GO) was modified with chloroacetic acid to produce carboxylated graphene oxide (GO-COOH). The successful synthesis of graphene oxide and its modification has been confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDX) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The increase in surface area of graphene oxide after treatment with chloroacetic acid characterized by BET indicated its successful modification. A batch experiment was conducted to optimize the different factors affecting adsorption of both heavy metals on GO-COOH. After functionalization, we achieved maximum adsorption capacities of 588.23 mg g-1 and 370.37 mg g-1 for Pb and Cr, respectively, by GO-COOH which were high compared to the previously reported adsorbents of this kind. The Langmuir model (R2 = 0.998) and Pseudo-second-order kinetic model (R2 = 0.999) confirmed the monolayer adsorption of Pb and Cr on GO-COOH and the chemisorption as the dominant process governing adsorption mechanism. The present work shows that the carboxylation of GO can enhance its adsorption capacity efficiently and may be applicable for the treatment of wastewater.

Abstract
High efficiency removal of methyl orange (MO) and bromothymol blue (BT) dyes from contaminated water has been reported using magnetic mesoporous nanoparticles modified with cationic polymer brush (poly(2-methacryloyloxy)ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride solution) (Fe3O4-MSNs-PMETAC). Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was utilized to grow the polymer chains on the magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles. The chemical surface modifications were confirmed using IR, TGA, SEM and TEM. The results show that the obtained Fe3O4-MSNs-PMETAC materials were nearly spherical in shape with approximately 30 nm magnetic core, and silica shell thicknesses ranged from 135 to 250 nm. The adsorption performance of the material was found to be unaffected by the pH (3-9) of the media, with a removal efficiency of 100% for both dyes. The adsorption of BT and MO on the surface of Fe3O4-MSNs-PMETAC was found to follow Freundlich and Langmuir models, respectively. Since the synthesized nanocomposite materials exhibit an enhanced properties such as large maximum adsorption capacity, rapid synthesis process, and easy separation from solution, it could be an effective sorbent for the removal of other pollutants such as potentially toxic anionic elements (e.g., arsenate and chromate ions) from water and wastewater.

Abstract
In this study, a polysaccharide-based hydrogel microsphere (SFP/SA) was prepared using S. fusiforme polysaccharide (SFP) and sodium alginate (SA). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) demonstrated that SFP was effectively loaded onto the hydrogel microsphere. Texture profile analysis (TPA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that, with the increase of SFP concentration, the hardness of SFP/SA decreased, while the springiness and cohesiveness of SFP/SA increased, and the thermal stability of SFP/SA improved. The equilibrium adsorption capacity of SFP/SA increased from 8.20 mg/g (without SFP) to 67.95 mg/g (SFP accounted 80%) without swelling, and from 35.05 mg/g (without SFP) to 81.98 mg/g (SFP accounted 80%) after 24 h swelling. The adsorption of crystal violet (CV) dye by SFP/SA followed pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetics (both with R2 > 0.99). The diffusion of intraparticle in CV dye was not the only influencing factor. Moreover, the adsorption of CV dye for SFP/SA (SFP accounted 60%) fit the Langmuir and Temkin isotherm models. SFP/SA exhibited good regenerative adsorption capacity. Its adsorption rate remained at > 97% at the 10th consecutive cycle while SFP accounted for 80%. The results showed that the addition of Sargassum fusiforme polysaccharide could increase the springiness, cohesiveness and thermal stability of the hydrogel microsphere, as well as improve the adsorption capacity of crystal violet dye.

Abstract
In the present study, alginate@silver nanoparticles (Alg@AgNPs) bionanocomposite has been fabricated successfully and further explored for the removal of crystal violet (CV) dye from the aqueous solution. The surface morphology of the (Alg@AgNPs) bionanocomposite was characterized by various modern analytical techniques such as SEM-EDX, TEM, FTIR and XRD. The maximum adsorption was observed at optimum condition of (pH 7, adsorbent dose 0.01 g, equilibrium time 240 min and initial concentration 20 mg L-1). The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity was found to be 186.93 mg g-1 at 30 °C. The experimental data were further validated by various isotherm models and on the basis of highest correlation coefficient (R2, 0.99), Langmuir model was found to be best fitted model. Pseudo-second order kinetic model obeyed best for the experimental data with a highest correlation coefficient (R2, 0.99) at all studied temperature. In thermodynamic studies, the positive value of enthalpy change (∆H0) and entropy change (∆S0) confirmed the process to be endothermic and spontaneous in nature. Desorption studies shows that 83 % of the adsorbed CV can be desorbed in first cycle and can be regenerated up to 4th cycle effectively with 0.1 M HCl. Therefore, (Alg@AgNPs) bionanocomposite could be harnessed as a potential adsorbent for the removal of hazardous CV dye from the waste water.

Abstract
In this work, we tailor facile hydrogels nanocomposite (HNC) based on sustainable karaya gum for water treatment. Karaya gum crosslink poly(acrylamide-co-acrylonitrile) @ silver nanoparticle (KG-cl-P(AAm-co-AN)@AgNPs) HNC were made by an aqueous free radical in situ crosslink copolymerization of acrylamide (AAm) and acrylic acid (AA) in aqueous solution of KG-stabilized AgNPs. FTIR, XRD, DTA-TGA, SEM, and TEM were used to characterize HNC. The hydrogels' swelling, diffusion, and network characteristics were investigated. The removal efficiency of HNC was found to be 99% at pH 8 for a crystal violet (CV), dose of 0.02 g after 1 h. Dye adsorption by these hydrogels was also investigated in terms of isotherms, and kinetics. The dye's exceptionally high adsorption capacity on HNC for CV removal is explained by H-bonding interactions, as well as dipole-dipole and electrostatic interactions between anionic adsorbent and cationic dye molecules (Qmax, 1000 mg/g). The HNC can be regenerated with 0.1 M HCl and reused at least 10 times maintaining over 68% dye removal. The loading of AgNPs into the polymeric matrix of KG-cl-P(AAm-co-AN) significantly increases the removal percentage of CV dye from its aqueous solution, according to this study.

Abstract
In this paper, Ag-TiO2 photocatalysts with different Ag contents (1 mol%–5 mol%) were prepared and applied to cement mortar. The photocatalytic performance of Ag-TiO2 and photocatalytic cement mortar under UV light and simulated solar light was evaluated. The results showed that Ag loading on the surface of TiO2 could reduce its band gap width and increase its absorbance in the visible region, and 2% Ag-TiO2 had the highest photocatalytic activity under UV light, the degradation rate of methyl orange (MO) was 95.5% at 30 min, and the first-order reaction constant k was 0.0980 min−1, which was 61.7% higher than that of TiO2, and 5% Ag-TiO2 had the highest photocatalytic activity under solar light, the degradation rate of methylene blue (MB) was 69.8% at 40 min, and the first-order reaction constant k was 0.0294 min−1, which was 90.9% higher than that of TiO2. The photocatalytic mortar prepared by the spraying method has high photocatalytic performance, The MO degradation rate of sample S2 under UV light was 87.5% after 120 min, MB degradation rate of sample S5 under solar light was 75.4% after 120 min. The photocatalytic reaction conforms to the zero-order reaction kinetics, which was 1.5 times–3.3 times higher than that of the mixed samples and has no effect on the mechanical properties of mortar.

Abstract
In this paper, functionalized sodium alginate hydrogel (FSAH) was prepared to efficiently adsorb heavy metals and dyes. Hydrazide-functionalized sodium alginate (SA) prepared hydrazone groups to selectively capture heavy metals (Pb2+, Cd2+, and Cu2+), and another functional group (dopamine grafting), serves as sites for adsorption methylene blue (MB), malachite green (MG), crystal violet (CV). Thermodynamic parameters of adsorption indicated that the adsorption process is endothermic and spontaneous. The heavy metals adsorption by FSAH was physical adsorption mainly due to ΔHθ < 40 kJ/mol, and the adsorption of cationic dyes fitted with the Langmuir models, which indicated that the monolayer adsorption is dominated by hydrogen bonds, electrostatic interactions, and π-π interactions. Moreover, the adsorption efficiency maintained above 70% after five adsorption-desorption cycles. To sum up, FSAH has great application prospect.

Abstract
Abstract
Novel clivia biochar adsorbing daptomycin (DAP) was prepared by microwave digestion–anaerobic carbonization in this work. Fe/Ag submicron particles were introduced to the biochar surface based on the reducibility of biochar to enhance its adsorption capacity. Characterization confirmed that modified biochar (AF-biochar) had a higher particle size (126 μm), larger specific surface area (521.692 m2 g−1), richer pore structure, and higher thermal stability. The effects of the main variables (e.g., the solution pH, contact time, initial DAP concentration, and temperature) were investigated during adsorption. The results showed that AF-biochar could reach the adsorption equilibrium at pH 4.8 for 85 min. Besides, the adsorption capacity was 48.25 mg g−1, and the adsorption efficiency was 96.50% when the concentration of DAP was 25 mg L−1. The pseudo-second-order kinetics (R
2 = 0.9997), Langmuir equation (R
2 = 0.9999), and thermodynamics (R
2 = 0.9631) of AF-biochar fit well, indicating that the main adsorption process of AF-biochar was spontaneous, exothermic, and monolayer. Their adsorption was analyzed by physical and chemical adsorption. The main adsorption mechanisms included the electron donor–acceptor interaction, electrostatic force interaction, Lewis acid–base interaction, and H-bond interaction.
