Abstract
This study proposes a systematic and straightforward approach for determining basic reaction routes and overall reactions using the theory of complex kinetics for an oxidative desulfurization (ODS) reaction using solvothermally synthesized metalorganic framework (MOF), UiO-66-NO2 as a catalyst to remove the dibenzothiophene (DBT) from a model fuel in the temperature range of 20-100 °C. The intermediates are organized in a ″matrix of intermediates″ that simplifies the elementary reactions combination to form overall reactions. Adsorption, oxidation, and desorption were taken into consideration in 11 basic reaction steps that comprised the suggested ODS mechanism. The model's kinetic parameters were optimized by MATLAB program and described by the reparametrized Arrhenius equation. Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) modeling was used to investigate the dependability of the estimated parameters and model predictions. The experimental results were satisfactorily in agreement with the model predictions, as the complex reaction was utilized for the first time to investigate the ODS reaction over MOFs.

Abstract
Electronic grade hydrogen peroxide plays a crucial role in the fabrication of large-scale integrated circuits. However, hydrogen peroxide prepared by the anthraquinone method contains impurities such as lead ions (Pb2+) and phosphate, which can seriously affect the yield of the circuit. Traditional adsorbent materials have difficulty in solving the problem of simultaneous adsorption of trace anions and cations in hydrogen peroxide due to the single adsorption site and poor adsorption kinetics. In this study, UiO-66-NH2 was prepared by introducing a -NH2 group on the terephthalic acid ligand, and a series of hybrid matrix hollow fiber membranes with different UiO-66-NH2 contents were prepared by loading it on polysulfone (PSF). This initiative not only improved the pore size and water flux of hollow fiber membranes but also enhanced the removal efficiency of ions from hydrogen peroxide solution, thereby facilitating practical application. Among them, UiO-66-NH2@PSF-1.5 showed the best adsorption of phosphate and lead ions with adsorption capacities of 3.099 and 2.160 mg g-1 and reached the removal efficiency of 67.1 and 60.1%, which fully confirms the practicability in the purification of electronic chemicals. This work innovatively proposes that UiO-66-NH2@PSF hybrid matrix hollow fiber membranes have great potential as simultaneous adsorbents for cations and anions in the efficient purification of electronic grade solvents.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are used as novel adsorption materials owing to their large surface area and tunable pore size. However, the lack of selectivity considerably limits their application. Consequently, designing functionalized MOFs with specific recognition abilities is essential for enhancing their adsorption performance. Herein, we synthesized a functionalized NH2-UiO-66 composite modified by molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP@NH2-UiO-66) via a one-step polymerization process in which NH2-UiO-66 and MIP were formed simultaneously. Results demonstrate that MIP@NH2-UiO-66 effectively recognized sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in complex matrices. The adsorption equilibrium was reached in only 30 min, and this fast SMX adsorption on MIP@NH2-UiO-66 was described by the Avrami kinetic model, which indicates a spontaneous and exothermic adsorption process. Within the pH range of 3.0-10.0, MIP@NH2-UiO-66 exhibited an optimal binding capacity for SMX, and the maximum adsorption of SMX was 68.36 mg g-1 at 25°C, which exceeded those of existing adsorption materials (< 60.10 mg g-1). Additionally, MIP@NH2-UiO-66 was regenerated for ∼17 cycles compared to less than eight cycles for the other adsorbents. MIP@NH2-UiO-66 effectively removed 90.58%-99.60% of SMX from river water, rainwater, soil, sediment, chicken, pork, and milk samples, with a relative standard deviation of less than 4.43%. The superior adsorption of SMX on MIP@NH2-UiO-66 was primarily driven by the synergistic effects of the imprinting sites, hydrogen bonding, and electrostatic forces. The one-step polymerization method substantially simplified the synthesis process and reduced the costs, which are promising factors for the synthesis of MOFs with high selectivity.

Abstract
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are harmful chemicals that are found in minute quantities in the atmosphere and are emitted from a variety of industrial and biological processes. They can be harmful to breathe or serve as biomarkers for disease detection. Therefore, capture and detection of VOCs is important. Here, we have examined if the Zr-based UiO-66 metal-organic framework (MOF) can be used to capture butanone─a well-known VOC. Toward that end, we have performed Born-Oppenheimer ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) at 300 and 500 K to probe the energetics and molecular interactions between butanone [CH3C(O)CH2CH3] and open-cage Zr-UiO-66. Such interactions were systematically interrogated using three MOF structures: defective MOF with a missing 1,4-benzene-dicarboxylate linker and two H2O; pristine MOF with two H2O; and pristine dry MOF. These structures were loaded with one and four molecules of butanone to examine the effect of concentration as well. One-molecule loading interacted favorably with the defective structure at 300 K, only. In comparison, interactions with four-molecule loading were energetically favorable for all conditions. Persistent hydrogen bonds between the O atom of butanone, H2O, and μ3-OH hydroxyl attachments at Zr nodes substantially contributed to the intermolecular interactions. At higher loadings, butanone also showed a pronounced tendency to diffuse into the adjoining cages of Zr-UiO-66. The effect of such movement on interaction energies was rationalized using simple statistical mechanics-based models of interacting and noninteracting gases. Broadly, we learn that the presence of prior moisture within the interstitial cages of Zr-UiO-66 significantly impacts the adsorption behavior of butanone.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOF) hold great promise for CO2 adsorption due to their high surface areas, tunable pore sizes, and the ability to modify their chemical properties to enhance CO2 affinity. MOFs tagged with functional groups either at linker or metal sites have shown improved CO2 uptake capacity and selectivity. This study focuses on investigating the potential of selective CO2 adsorption using amino functionalization of linker forming Ce-UiO-66. The physicochemical properties and characteristics of MOFs to determine the degree of amino functionalization and structural stability were examined using powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transformer infra-red (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and N2 porosimetry and specific surface area (BET). This work unveils a novel array of results on CO2, N2 and water vapour adsorption on Ce-UiO-66-NH2. The amino-functionalized Ce-UiO-66-NH2 shows 63 % higher CO2 uptake and 84 % higher CO2/N2 selectivity at 273 K and 1 bar over Ce-UiO-66. Ce-UiO-66-NH2 also shows excellent structural stability after gas and vapour sorption making Ce-UiO-66-NH2 potential adsorbent for CO2 capture.

Abstract
Fenpropathrin residues in grain are potentially harmful to humans. Therefore, a fluorimetric lateral flow immunoassay using a zirconium-based organic skeleton (UiO-66) as a signal marker was developed for detecting fenpropathrin. Herein, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) was used to modify UiO-66 and improve its water solubility to facilitate stable binding with sodium fluorescein (NaFL). This resulted in formation of a new fluorescent probe that is more suitable for lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA). The materials were characterized via electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction. CMCS and NaFL were successfully bound to UiO-66. Under optimized conditions, the constructed NaFL/UiO-66@CMCS-LFIA exhibited a good linear relationship within the range of 0.98-62.5 μg/L, with a detection limit of 3.91 μg/L. This probe was fourfold more sensitive than traditional colloidal gold nanoparticle-based LFIA. Finally, NaFL/UiO-66@CMCS-LFIA was successfully applied to detect fenpropathrin in wheat and maize samples. The detection limit was 1.56 μg/kg and recoveries ranged from 96.58 % to 118.56 %. This study provides a sensitive, stable, and convenient method for the rapid detection of pesticide residues.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), with their unique porous structures and versatile functionality, have emerged as promising materials for the adsorption, separation, and storage of diverse molecular species. In this study, we investigate water adsorption in MOF-808, a prototypical MOF that shares the same secondary building unit (SBU) as UiO-66, and elucidate how differences in topology and connectivity between the two MOFs influence the adsorption mechanism. To this end, molecular dynamics simulations were performed to calculate several thermodynamic and dynamical properties of water in MOF-808 as a function of relative humidity (RH), from the initial adsorption step to full pore filling. At low RH, the μ3-OH groups of the SBUs form hydrogen bonds with the initial water molecules entering the pores, which triggers the filling of these pores before the μ3-OH groups in other pores become engaged in hydrogen bonding with water molecules. Our analyses indicate that the pores of MOF-808 become filled by water sequentially as the RH increases. A similar mechanism has been reported for water adsorption in UiO-66. Despite this similarity, our study highlights distinct thermodynamic properties and framework characteristics that influence the adsorption process differently in MOF-808 and UiO-66.

Abstract
The sol-gel monolithic MOFs has come to prominent attention for industrial application owing to the higher powder packing density, enhanced processabilities and mechanical stabilities compared to the powder counterpart. The mechanical properties are particularly important during machine shaping processing because of porous framework structure. We used ligand engineering to design and synthesize monoUiO-66-type materials modified different chemical functional groups (-NH2, -2OH, -2COOH) by sol-gel method, with the aim to assess the impact of different functional groups on the mechanical properties of these monolithic materials based on nanoindentation technology. We observe larger mass and sterically bulky functional groups (-2COOH) can significantly decrease the BET areas and pore volume of monoUiO-66 through N2 adsorption isotherms at 77 K. Hence, the two -COOH groups modified monoUiO-66 tends to exhibit the higher H of 0.589 ± 0.018 GPa and E of 15.471 ± 0.250 GPa compared with monoUiO-66 modified with -NH2 (0.334 ± 0.009 GPa/11.959 ± 0.243 GPa) and -2OH (0.331 ± 0.008 GPa/10.251 ± 0.142 GPa) groups. The creep indentation tests and the jump indentation tests further demonstrate the modification by larger functional groups -COOH on monoUiO-66 could resist irreversible plastic deformation. Furthermore, the monoUiO-66-(COOH)2 has significantly smaller the activation volume of 0.34 ∼ 0.43 nm3, highlighting the introduction of -COOH groups reduced the pore volume and restrict the number of pores involved in one collapse event. Our results demonstrate the larger mass and sterically bulky functional groups have significant influence on the mechanical properties of the monoMOFs materials.

Abstract
Nowadays, a big challenge is developing a sustainable and effective method for removing contaminants like dyes from aqueous solutions. In this regard, Zr-based metal-organic framework (UiO-66-NH2) and sawdust as the ideal adsorbents were used. Due to their low separation in adsorption processes, embedding into alginate and obtaining composite beads are suggested as a suitable strategy. The achieved Ca-alginate/citric acid (CA)-sawdust/UiO-66-NH2 hydrogel beads were used to compare cationic and anionic dyes removal. This sorbent indicated an excellent selectivity for removing methylene blue versus methyl orange in a binary system. pH = 6, adsorbent amount = 80 mg, methylene blue concentration = 10 mg/L, and contact time = 420 min were achieved as optimal parameters on methylene blue adsorption with an adsorption capacity of about 26 mg/g. The removal process of methylene blue followed linear Freundlich isotherm and nonlinear pseudo-2nd-order kinetic models. The regeneration test demonstrated methylene blue removal efficiency higher than about 89 % after 9 cycles. According to the outcomes, methylene blue could be attached to the adsorbent surface through the electrostatic, hydrogen bonding, and π-π interactions of the aromatic rings. These results confirm the potential of Ca-alginate/CA-sawdust/UiO-66-NH2 hydrogel beads as a selective bio-sorbent for cationic dye removal.

Abstract
High-energy radiation that is compatible with renewable energy sources enables direct H2 production from water for fuels; however, the challenge is to convert it as efficiently as possible, and the existing strategies have limited success. Herein, we report the use of Zr/Hf-based nanoscale UiO-66 metal-organic frameworks as highly effective and stable radiation sensitizers for purified and natural water splitting under γ-ray irradiation. Scavenging and pulse radiolysis experiments with Monte Carlo simulations show that the combination of 3D arrays of ultrasmall metal-oxo clusters and high porosity affords unprecedented effective scattering between secondary electrons and confined water, generating increased precursors of solvated electrons and excited states of water, which are the main species responsible for H2 production enhancement. The use of a small quantity (<80 mmol/L) of UiO-66-Hf-OH can achieve a γ-rays-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency exceeding 10% that significantly outperforms Zr-/Hf-oxide nanoparticles and the existing radiolytic H2 promoters. Our work highlights the feasibility and merit of MOF-assisted radiolytic water splitting and promises a competitive method for creating a green H2 economy.

Abstract
The uniqueness of multivariate metal-organic frameworks (MTV-MOFs) has been widely explored to discover their unknown opportunities. While mesoscopic apportionments have been studied, macroscopic heterogeneity and its spatial effects remain unexplored in MTV-MOFs. In this study, we investigated the effect of macroscopic heterogeneity on MTV-MOFs on their uptake behaviors by comparing three types of MTV-MOFs having the functional groups in inner, outer, or entire parts of crystals. Their adsorption behavior for carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) brought out that functional groups located in the outer part of the crystals dominantly influence the sorption behavior of MTV-MOFs. These results are also visualized by observing iodine adsorption in the three types of MTV-MOFs using scanning transmission electron microscopy-electron energy loss spectroscopy. We believe that this finding provides new ways to decipher and design MTV-MOFs for their unusual properties.

Abstract
University of Oslo-66 (UiO-66) was a potential adsorbent for removing various pollutants from wastewater. Modifying the UiO-66 surface with different functional groups could enhance the adsorption performance. In this study, the UiO-66 modified with a functional group of -NH2 or -NO2 was prepared and tested to adsorb different pollutants. The results showed that -NO2 modified UiO-66 increased the adsorption capacity of tetracycline by 17 times to 94.08 mg g-1 compared with unmodified UiO-66. The adsorption process of UiO-66-NO2 followed the pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model with a maximum isotherm adsorption capacity of 127.32 mg g-1. The adsorption interaction was hydrogen bonding and electrostatic attraction. The UiO-66-NO2 also showed good adsorption performance to Co2+, Methylene blue, Congo red. Fixing UiO-66-NO2 into hydrogel performed a stable absorption performance with a high absorption capacity (71.56 mg g-1) to TC and a good regeneration rate (85%) after five cycles, providing a novel applicable way to remove pollutants from wastewater.

Immobilization of Cytochrome C by Benzoic Acid (BA)-Functional UiO-66-NO 2 and the Enzyme Activity Assay. Appl Biochem Biotechnol 2022; 194:5167-5184. Abstract
Recently, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered to be the moderate hosts for the bio-enzymes owing to their unique 3D pores and controllable surface affinity to the target molecules. In this work, the benzoic acid (BA)-modulated UiO-66-NO2 was introduced, and cytochrome c (Cyt C) was chosen as the target enzyme to evaluate the immobilization efficiency of the resulting UiO-66-NO2-BA. The immobilization conditions including pH, adsorption time, and temperature and the initial concentrations of BA were optimized. The adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics were analyzed to further explore the enhanced adsorption mechanism. It is worth noted that all the UiO-66-NO2-BA exhibited evidently enhanced adsorption capacities in comparison with the unmodified UiO-66-NO2 due to the formation of the chemical bonds between the UiO-66-NO2-BA and cytochrome C, indicating the positive roles of BA modification. Finally, the activities of the immobilized cytochrome C were assessed by using the catalytic oxidation of ABTS in the presence of H2O2, which reactions were also conducted over the free cytochrome C for comparison. The evidently improved stability under definite pH range, prolonged durability against the organic solvents, and the good reusability of the immobilized cytochrome C highlight the prospect applications of functional MOF immobilized enzymes in the practical catalytic reactions.
