Abstract
The present research, describes preparation and application of a novel bioanode for ethanol-oxygen biofuel cells. We applied an enzyme based nanocomposite consisting of polymethylene green as electron transfer mediator, carboxylated-multiwall carbon nanotubes as electron transfer accelerator, alcohol dehydrogenase as biocatalyst and polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride as supporting agent. In the presence of β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide as cofactor, and ethanol as fuel, the feasibility of the bioanode for increasing the power was evaluated under the ambient conditions. In the optimum conditions the biofuel cell produced the power density of 1.713 mW cm(-2) and open circuit voltage of 0.281 V.

Abstract
In this article, for the first time, a novel, high-yield and template-free method for the synthesis of Ag nanoparticle decorated thionine/infinite coordination polymer (AgNP/THI/ICP) fibres is proposed. The thionine can be adsorbed to the AgNP/THI/ICP fibres by π-conjugation and act as the redox probe. The AgNP/THI/ICP fibres not only favor the immobilization of antibody but also facilitate the electron transfer. It is found that the AgNP/THI/ICP fibres can be designed to act as a sensitive label-free electrochemical immunosensor for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) determination. Under the optimized conditions, the linear range of the proposed immunosensor is estimated to be from 50 fg/mL to 100 ng/mL and the detection limit is estimated to be 0.5 fg/mL at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3, respectively. The prepared immunosensor for detection of CEA shows high sensitivity, reproducibility and stability. Our study demonstrates that the proposed immunosensor has also been used to determine CEA successfully in diluted blood samples.

Abstract
Nanoporous gold (NPG) has recently received considerable attention in analytical electrochemistry because of its good conductivity and large specific surface area. A facile layer-by-layer assembly technique fabricated NPG was used to construct an electrochemical immunosensor for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). NPG was fabricated on glassy carbon (GC) electrode by alternatively assembling gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using 1,4-benzenedimethanethiol as a cross-linker, and then AgNPs were dissolved with HNO3. The thionine was absorbed into the NPG and then gold nanostructure was electrodeposited on the surface through the electrochemical reduction of gold chloride tetrahydrate (HAuCl4). The anti-CEA was directly adsorbed on gold nanostructure fixed on the GC electrode. The linear range of the immunosensor was from 10 pg mL(-1) to 100 ng mL(-1) with a detection limit of 3 pg mL(-1) (S/N=3). The proposed immunosensor has high sensitivity, wide linear range, low detection limit, and good selectivity. The present method could be widely applied to construct other immunosensors.

Abstract
Patients with coeliac disease, a gluten intolerance autoimmune disorder, have elevated levels of antitransglutaminase antibody in their human sera. In this study, an immunosensor for the electrochemical determination of antitransglutaminase antibody was constructed. The immunosensor architecture was based on the electrostatic deposition of transglutaminase antigen on a glassy carbon electrode modified with electrosynthetic overoxidized polypyrrole and gold nanoparticles and capped the transglutaminase layer with bovine serum albumin. As a result, good surface coverage of the gold nanoparticles (~100 nm) was achieved across the overoxidized polypyrrole film. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy parameters of the gold nanoparticle–overoxidized polypyrrole electrode include time constant, exchange current density, and heterogeneous rate constant. The impedimetric immunosensor exhibited a charge transfer resistance-dependent linear range with a correlation coefficient value of 0.98 and a dynamic linear range of 10−6–10−4 mg mL−1. The synergistic effect of the gold nanoparticles on the overoxidized polypyrrole formed the electronic insulator platform as a selective accumulator for the analytes surrounding the nanoelectrode. This biosensor characteristic enabled detection of antitransglutaminase antibodies at very low concentrations without the aid of a secondary label.

Abstract
A sensitive flow injection chemiluminescence assay for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) detection based on signal amplification with gold nanoparticles (NPs) is reported in the present work. The sandwich system of CEA/anti-CEA/goat-anti-mouse IgG functionalized Au nanoparticles was used as the sensing platform. In order to improve detection sensitivity, a further gold enlargement step was developed based on the autocatalytic Au deposition of gold nanoprobes via the reduction of AuCl4− to Au0 on their surface in the presence of NH2OH·HCl. AuCl4−, which is a soluble product of gold nanoprobes, served as an analyte in the CL reaction for the indirect measurement of CEA. Under optimized conditions, the CL intensity of the system was linearly related to the logarithm of CEA concentration in the range of 100 pg·mL−1 to 1,000 ng·mL−1, with a detection limit of 20 pg·mL−1.

Abstract
In this paper, Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles (Fe(3)O(4) NPs) grafted carboxyl groups of multiwalled carbon nanotubes with cationic polyelectrolyte poly (dimethyldiallylammonium chloride) (PDDA) (MWCNTs-COO(-)/PDDA@Fe(3)O(4)), are successfully synthesized and used for the extraction of six kinds of major toxic polychorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from a large volume of water solution. The hydrophilicity of the PDDA cage can enhance the dispersibility of sorbents in water samples, and the superparamagnetism of the Fe(3)O(4) NPs facilitate magnetic separation which directly led to the simplification of the extraction procedure. With the magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) technique based on the MWCNTs-COO(-)/PDDA@Fe(3)O(4) sorbents, it requires only 30 min to extract trace levels of PCBs from 500 mL water samples. When the eluate condensed to 1.0 mL, concentration factors for PCBs became over 500. The spiked recoveries of several real water samples for PCBs were in the range of 73.3-98.9% with relative standard deviations varying from 3.8% to 9.4%, reflecting good accuracy of the method. Therefore, preconcentration of trace level of PCBs by using this MWCNTs-COO(-)/PDDA@Fe(3)O(4) sorbent, which are stable for multiple reuses, from water solution can be performed.

Abstract
In this review, the current status of research in electrochemical immunosensors is considered. We primarily focus on label-free and enzyme-labeled immunosensors, and the analytical capabilities of these devices are discussed. Moreover, the use of magnetic beads as new materials for immunosensors coupled with electrochemical sensing is also described, together with the application of new molecules such as aptamers as specific biorecognition elements. Examples of the applicability of these devices in solving various analytical problems in clinical, environmental and food fields are reported. Finally, the prospects for the further development of immunosensor technologies are shown.

Abstract
A novel electrochemical immunosensor for tumor biomarker detection based on three-dimensional, magnetic and electroactive nanoprobes was developed in this study. To fabricate the nanoprobes, negatively charged Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles (Fe(3)O(4) NPs) and gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) were first loaded on the surface of multiple wall carbon nanotubes (MCNTs) which were functioned with redox-active hemin and cationic polyelectrolyte poly(dimethyldiallylammonium chloride) (PDDA). Using alpha fetoprotein (AFP) as a model analyte, AFP antibody (anti-AFP) was absorbed on the surface of Au NPs, bovine serum albumin (BSA) was then used to block sites against non-specific binding, and finally formed anti-AFP/Au NPs/Fe(3)O(4)/hemin/MCNTs named anti-AFP nanoprobes. When the target antigen AFP was present, it interacted with anti-AFP and formed an antigen-antibody complex on the nanoprobe interface. This resulted in a decreased electrochemical signal of hemin for quantitative determination of AFP when immobilized onto the screen-printed working electrode (SPCE). The results showed that the nanoprobe-based electrochemical immunosensor was sensitive to AFP detection at a concentration of 0.1 to 200 ng·mL(-1) with a detection limit of 0.04 ng·mL(-1), it also demonstrated good selectivity against other interferential substances. The electroactive nanoprobes can be massively prepared, easily immobilized on the SPCE for target detection and rapidly renewed with a magnet. The proposed immunosensor is fast, simple, sensitive, stable, magnet-controlled, nontoxic, label-free and reproducible.

Abstract
A label-free immunosensor was developed to detect the presence of an antigen. This immunosensor was based on the modulation of the electrochemistry of the surface bound redox species K(3)Fe(CN)(6) (FC). The model antigen was carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and the model epitope was the antibody of CEA (anti-CEA). Glassy carbon (GC) electrode surfaces were first drop-coated with a mixture of FC and chitosan and air-dried. The electrode surface was then covered with nafion membrane, which contained gold nanoparticles. After binding with polyethyleneimine (PEI), glutaraldehyde (GA) was used to cross-link PEI and anti-CEA. Binding of CEA to the surface bound epitope resulted in attenuation of the FC electrochemistry. Under optimal conditions, the response of the label-free immunosensor had a linear range of 0.01-150 ng mL(-1) with a detection limit of 3 pg mL(-1) (S/N = 3). Its response was better than those of radioimmunoassays, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, and chemiluminescence assays.
