Synthesis of Bimetallic PdAg Nanoparticles and Their Electrocatalytic Activity toward Ethanol. J CHEM-NY 2020. Abstract
Palladium-based bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) have been studied as important electrocatalysts for energy conversion due to their high electrocatalytic performance and the less usage of the noble metal. Herein, well-dispersed PdAg NPs with uniform size were prepared via oil bath accompanied with the hydrothermal method. The variation of the Ag content in PdAg NPs changed the lattice constant of the face-centered cubic alloy nanostructures continuously. The Pd/Ag molar ratio in the PdAg alloy NPs affected their size and catalytic activity toward ethanol electrooxidation. Experimental data showed that PdAg NPs with less Ag content exhibited better electrocatalytic activity and durability than pure Pd NPs owing to both the small size and the synergistic effect. PdAg-acac-4 with the Pd/Ag molar ratio of 4 : 1 in the start system possessed the highest catalytic current density of 2246 mA/mg for the electrooxidation of ethanol. The differences in the morphology and electrocatalytic activity of the as-made PdAg NPs have been discussed and analyzed.

An environmentally friendly one-pot synthesis method by the ultrasound assistance for the decoration of ultrasmall Pd-Ag NPs on graphene as high active anode catalyst towards ethanol oxidation. Abstract
An environmentally friendly one-pot synthesis approach for the decoration of Pd-Ag nanoparticles with the ultrasmall size on graphene (Pd-Ag/G) by the assistance of ultrasound is proposed in this paper. This method offers exceptional advantages over other approaches such as environmentally friendly synthesis, being low temperature, reductant, surfactant free, simple, fast and one-pot synthesis. In this work, silver formate is added to the graphene suspension at 25 °C. Then, PdCl2 is added to the suspension under stirring to fabricate Pd-Ag/G. The uniform dispersity of nanoparticles with an average size of about 2-3 nm is well confirmed by transmission electron microscopy micrographs. The resultant catalyst is applied as anode electrocatalyst towards electrooxidation reaction of ethanol. The Pd-Ag/G catalyst displays exceptional catalytic activity and durability towards electro-oxidation of ethanol. According to the obtained results, it be concluded that the combination of Ag and Pd, ultrasmall and uniform distribution of Pd-Ag nanoparticles led to the improvement of electrocatalytic activity of the Pd-Ag/G catalyst.

Abstract
Inexpensive, active, stable, and CO-tolerant nonplatinum catalysts for efficient methanol electro-oxidation are highly desirable to direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) technology; however, it is still challenging. In this study, we report palladium and cobalt nanowires with jagged appearance (Pd-Co J-NWs), synthesized via first anodic-aluminum-oxide template-confined electrodeposition of Pd-Co regular nanowires, followed by a wet-chemical transformation. Benefiting from the "jagged" appearance and Co dopants, the mass and specific activities of Pd-Co J-NWs for methanol electro-oxidation are evaluated ∼3.2 times and ∼2.1 times as high as those of Pd/C catalysts, respectively. After chronoamperometric measurements for 2000 s, the catalytic stability of Pd-Co J-NWs is ∼5.4 times higher compared to that of commercial Pd/C. Moreover, the onset potential of CO-stripping of Pd-Co J-NWs (0.5 V) is lower than that of Pd/C (0.7 V), suggesting CO antipoisoning. Our approach to Pd-Co J-NWs catalysts provides an experimental guideline for designing other high-performance nonplatinum catalysts, which is promising for future DMFC industry.
