Abstract
Developing a novel catalyst with lower noble-metal loading and higher catalytic efficiency is significant for promoting the widespread application of direct alcohol fuel cells (DAFCs). In this work, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) supported the PdSn alloy (PdSn/PEDOT) were simply synthesized and their electrocatalytic performance toward the oxidation of ethylene glycol and ethanol (EGOR and EOR) were investigated in alkaline media, respectively. In comparison with other control catalysts, the optimized Pd4Sn6/PEDOT catalyst exhibits the highest mass activity (7125/4166 mA mgPd-1) and specific activity (26/15 mA cm-2) towards EGOR/EOR. The mass activity of Pd4Sn6/PEDOT for EGOR and EOR are 11.9 and 10.9 times higher than commercial Pd/C, respectively. Moreover, chronoamperometry (CA) and successive cyclic voltammetry (CV) tests show that the CO resistance ability and durability of the Pd4Sn6/PEDOT catalyst were superior to Pd4Sn6, Pd/PEDOT and commercial Pd/C catalysts, which can be attributed to the d-band center of Pd can be effectively downshifted and the interface strain effect between electrons caused by the conjugated structure between PEDOT groups. This work provides an effective strategy for the development of highly efficient anode catalysts of DAFCs.

Abstract
The development of non-enzymatic and highly active electrocatalysts for glucose oxidation with excellent durability for blood glucose sensors has aroused widespread concern. In this work, we report a fast, simple, and low-cost NaBH4 reduction method for preparing ultrafine ternary PtPdCu alloy nanowires (NWs) with a 3D network nanostructure. The PtPdCu NWs catalyst presents significant efficiency for glucose oxidation-reduction (GOR), reaching an oxidative peak-specific activity of 0.69 mA/cm2, 2.6 times that of the Pt/C catalyst (0.27 mA/cm2). Further reaction mechanism investigations show that the NWs have better conductivity and smaller electron transfer resistance. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the alloying effect of PtPdCu could effectively enhance the adsorption energy of glucose and reduce the activation energy of GOR. The obtained NWs also show excellent stability over 3600 s through a chronoamperometry test. These self-supported ultrafine PtPdCu NWs with 3D networks provide a new functional material for building blood glucose sensors and direct glucose fuel cells.

Abstract
The fabrication of effective and stable electrocatalysts is crucial for practical applications of direct alcohol fuel cells (DAFCs). In this study, bimetallic PdCu nanostars (PdCu NSs) were fabricated by a Cu2+-modulated one-pot wet-chemical method, where cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) worked as a structure-regulating reagent. The morphology, compositions, crystal structures and formation mechanism of the as-prepared PdCu NSs were investigated by a series of techniques. The unique architectures created abundant active sites, which resulted in a large electrochemical active surface area (9.5 m2 g-1). The PdCu NSs showed negative shifts in the onset potentials and large forward peak current densities by contrast with those of commercial Pd black for the catalytic ethylene glycol oxidation reaction (EGOR) and glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR). It revealed that the PdCu NSs outperformed Pd black in the similar surroundings. This work provides a constructive strategy for fabrication of high-efficiency electrocatalysts for alcohol fuel cells.

Abstract
Simultaneously engineering a bowl-like and ultrafine nano-size structure offers an attractive route to not only increase the utilization efficiency of noble metals, the specific surface areas and the availability of active sites, but also boost the structural robustness and long-term stability. However, a great challenge remains in terms of the methods of synthesis. Herein, we report a facile one-pot hydrothermal method for the preparation of hollow porous Pt nanobowls (NBs) assembled from ultrafine particles. N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBAA) acts as a structure-directing agent that forms a self-template with Pt ions and drives the nucleation and assembly of Pt metals, resulting in the fabrication of Pt NBs from ultrafine particles. By virtue of their unique structure and morphology, the optimized Pt NBs exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) activity with 3.1-fold greater mass activity and 2.6-fold greater specific activities compared with those of commercial Pt black catalysts, as well as excellent stability and anti-poisoning ability.

Abstract
Most electrocatalysts show a high mass and special activity during the ethanol oxidation reaction, but those still suffer from limited stability, finite renewable capability and poor anti-poisoning durability. Furthermore, the reliable structure and appropriate composition of catalysts are fairly associated with the electrocatalysis performance. Herein, we report the development of trimetallic Pd61Sn34Cu5nanocrystals (NCs) whose rough surfaces are rich in step atoms and coupled with abundant of SnOxand CuO, which may effectively boost reaction activity and rapidly remove carbonaceous intermediate, respectively. Under the tuning on the composition, the defect rich Pd61Sn34Cu5NCs exhibit elevated electrocatalysis activity and durability for ethanol oxidation reaction with an optimized mass activity (1.26 AmgPd-1) and specific activity (10.6 mA cm-2), which is about 2.21 and 2.58 times greater than that of the commercial Pd/C catalyst (0.57 AmgPd-1and 4.1 mA cm-2).

Abstract
A convenient and sensitive colorimetric assay for acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and its inhibitor has been designed based on the oxidase-like activity of {100}-faceted Pd square nanoplates which are grown in situ on reduced graphene oxide (PdSP@rGO). PdSP@rGO can effectively catalyze the oxidation of colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) without the assistance of H2O2 to generate blue oxidized TMB (oxTMB) with a characteristic absorption peak at 652 nm. In the presence of AChE, acetylthiocholine (ATCh), a typical AChE substrate, is hydrolyzed to thiocholine (TCh). The generated TCh can effectively inhibit the PdSP@rGO-triggered chromogenic reaction of TMB via cheating with Pd, resulting in color fading and decrease in absorbance. Thus, a sensitive probe for AChE activity is constructed with a working range of 0.25-5 mU mL-1 and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0625 mU mL-1. Furthermore, because of the inhibition effect of tacrine on AChE, tacrine is also detected through the colorimetric AChE assay system within the concentrations range 0.025-0.4 μM with a LOD of 0.00229 μM. Hence, a rapid and facile colorimetric procedure to sensitively detect AChE and its inhibitor can be anticipated through modulating the oxidase-like activity of PdSP@rGO. Colorimetric method for detection of AChE and its inhibitor is established by modulating the oxidase mimetic activity of {100}-faceted Pd square nanoplates on reduced graphene oxide (PdSP@rGO).

Abstract
Enzyme-mimetic properties of nanomaterials can be efficiently tuned by controlling their size, composition, and structure. Here, ultrathin PdCu alloy nanosheet-assembled three-dimensional (3D) nanoflowers (Pd1Cux NAFs) with tunable surface composition are obtained via a generalized strategy. In presence of H2O2, the as-synthesized Pd1Cux NAFs can catalyze the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to the oxidized form of TMB (oxTMB) with a characteristic absorption peak at 652 nm. Interestingly, Pd1Cux NAFs show obviously composition-dependent peroxidase-like catalytic activities because of the synergistic interaction of nanoalloy. Additionally, different from 2D Pd nanosheets, the distinctive 3D superstructures are featured with rich approachable sites and proper layer spacing, which are in favor of fast mass transport and electron transfers during the catalytic process. Among the studied Pd1Cux NAFs, the Pd1Cu1.7 NAFs show the highest enzyme-like activities and can be successfully applied for the colorimetric detection of glucose with a low detection limit of 2.93 ± 0.53 μM. This work provides an efficient avenue to fabricate PdCu NAF nanozymes in biosensing toward glucose detection. Two-dimensional (2D) PdCu ultrathin nanosheet-assembled 3D nanoflowers (Pd1Cux NAFs) with tunable surface composition exhibit substantially enhanced intrinsic peroxidase-like catalytic activities. The Pd1Cu1.7 NAFs are successfully used as peroxidase mimic catalyst for the colorimetric detection of glucose with low detection limit of 2.93 μM.

Abstract
We present an efficient strategy for synthesising the PdAu catalysts with a homogeneous PdAu alloy phase for environmentally important hydrodechlorination of tetrachloromethane in the gas phase. The synthesis of carbon-supported catalysts involved two major steps: (i) incorporation of palladium and gold nanoparticles into carbon support and (ii) activation of the catalysts. The critical part of this work was to find the optimal conditions for both steps. Thus, the incorporation of the nanoparticles was carried out in two ways, by impregnation and direct redox reaction method using acetone solutions of metal precursor salts. The activation was performed either by a conventional thermal reduction in hydrogen or flash irradiation in a microwave oven. The homogeneity and structure of the PdAu alloy were found to depend on the catalyst activation method critically. In all cases, we observed better homogeneity for catalysts that were subject to microwave irradiation. Moreover, the flash microwave irradiation of prepared catalysts provided catalysts of better stability and selectivity towards the desired products (hydrocarbons) in the hydrodechlorination of tetrachloromethane as compared to the catalyst obtained by conventional thermal activation in hydrogen.

Abstract
Recently, engineering high performance Pd-based nanocatalysts for alkaline ethanol fuel cells has attracted wide attention. Here, we report a one-pot synthesis of low-palladium ternary palladium-copper-cobalt (PdCuCo) alloy nanowires (NWs) with a diameter of ∼4.0 nm to improve the mass activity (MA) of ethanol electrooxidation in alkaline medium. The MA (7.45 A mg-1) of the Pd31Cu61Co8 NWs is 8.5-fold and 12.4-fold that of commercial Pd black and Pd/C, respectively. The reaction mechanism of the EOR and the reasons for the activity enhancement on Pd31Cu61Co8 NWs are elucidated based on the results of in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and structure characterization. Besides the electronic effect and surface defect sites, the coexistence of surface Cu and Co that have high capacities to activate water to produce reactive oxygen species is another key factor. This study shows an example of how to design low-palladium ternary PdCuCo NWs as improved anode electrocatalysts for alkaline direct ethanol fuel cells with high mass activity.

Abstract
In this work, the catalytic activity of modified glassy carbon electrodes with xPd-yLaNi0.5Fe0.5O3-chitosan as an anodic catalyst for the polymeric fuel cell was investigated with cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential coulometry techniques; x and y are the mass loading of noble metal and mixed oxide, respectively. For the first time, the statistical regression mixed models were used to compare the electrocatalytic ability of nanocomposites in a fuel cell. The nonlinear regression model of y i,j = f(x i , (s j )) + ε i was considered and simulated, where X i is a random variable, s j is a covariate value, ε i is a normal random error variable, and θ is a P-dimensional vector of parameters of the mentioned model. A strategy to make a mixed model was proposed by using the maximum likelihood or mean square error methods. Then, the appropriate linear and nonlinear models were applied to the electrochemical results. The equations of current density vs time were obtained via the fitting and simulation of experimental data at different potentials and mass loadings of components. The amounts of transferred charge during the methanol oxidation were calculated vs time through the integration of mentioned equations at different potentials and mass loadings of components.

Abstract
The design of nanocatalysts by controlling pore size and particle characteristics is crucial to enhance the selectivity and activity of the catalysts. Thus, we have successfully demonstrated the synthesis of binary PdPb alloy nanocubes (PdPb NCs) by controlling pore size and particle characteristics. In addition, the as-obtained binary PdPb NCs exhibited superior electrocatalytic activity of 4.06 A mg-1 and 16.8 mA cm-2 toward ethylene glycol oxidation reaction and 2.22 A mg-1 and 9.2 mA cm-2 toward glycerol oxidation reaction when compared to the commercial Pd/C. These astonishing characteristics are attributed to the attractive nanocube structures as well as the large number of exposed active areas. Furthermore, the bifunctional effects originated from Pd and Pb interactions help to display high endurance with less activity decay after 500 cycles, showing a great potential in fuel cell applications.
