Abstract
Introduction Several mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have shown efficacy in enhancing interoceptive awareness (IA), the ability to perceive and interpret bodily signals, leading to improved mental and physical wellbeing. However, no study has yet explored the effects of mindfulness practice on IA in individuals training to become MBI teachers. Thus, we investigated the impact of a mindfulness teacher training (MTT) program on emotional distress and IA in individuals training to become mindfulness teachers. Methods A group of 38 individuals undergoing MTT and a control group of 24 matched individuals were assessed before (T0) and after (T1) the 9 months MTT program. Emotional distress was assessed through the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and IA was assessed through the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA). Results The MTT group showed significantly higher increases in the awareness of mind-body integration in comparison with the control group. Although no significant between-group changes were observed in emotional distress, increases in MAIA self-regulation scores within the MTT group were associated with decreases in HADS depression and total emotional distress scores. Discussion This study offers further support to the positive impact of mindfulness practice on IA within an MTT program, suggesting that mindfulness training for future MBI teachers further enhances their ability to attend to and to regulate and interpret bodily signals. Future research should investigate the long-term impact of mindfulness training on IA and on mental health in comparison with active comparators.

Abstract
It is increasingly recognized that interoceptive ability, the capacity to detect, interpret, and consciously integrate signals related to the physiological condition of the body, is central to emotion experience and regulation. Interoceptive ability can be trained and improved through mind-body interventions. This article attempts to provide an integrative review of the link between interoceptive ability and emotion regulation in mind-body interventions. To this aim, (1) we address the constructs of interoceptive ability and mind-body interventions in relation to the double pathway of emotion regulation, and (2) we include a review of selected empirical and qualitative studies. These show that mindfulness meditation affects the brain-body axis through top-down processing, improving both interoceptive ability and emotion regulation. Interventions based on bottom-up processing through body movement and emotional expression are illustrated, but it is argued that they are still under-investigated. In light of the literature reviewed, we contend that interoceptive ability is a crucial aspect associated with the effects of mind-body interventions on emotion regulation. Additionally, we suggest that if studied through both quantitative and qualitative methods, interoceptive ability may serve as a general construct that allows a more integrated view of the polarities related to the spectrum of embodied experience: top-down and bottom-up emotion processing, observational and non-observational body awareness, conscious and unconscious level of interoception.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Caress-like touch activates C-tactile (CT) afferents present in the skin of humans. It is generally assumed that this type of touch provides beneficial effects throughout the lifespan. However, little is known about its processing in later adulthood. Moreover, emotional responses to interpersonal vs. self-touch have not been investigated in older adults. METHOD A total of 132 females from two age groups (older: 60-96 years; younger: 18-30) participated in a well-validated method of tactile stimulation, in which CT-optimal vs. nonoptimal soft brushing (3 cm/s vs. 30 cm/s) was administered on the forearms of the participants, once by a female experimenter and once by the participant themselves. All participants rated their affective state in each of the conditions and tactile acuity was assessed. RESULTS Relative to the younger group, older participants rated touch as more pleasant, independent of type (CT-optimal, non-optimal) and origin (experimenter, self). In the older group, the emotional differentiation of CT-optimal vs. non-optimal touch was reduced, which was associated with reduced tactile acuity. CONCLUSION This study revealed an age-dependent enhancement of the perceived pleasantness of (self)touch. Interventions with auditory-guided CT-optimal self-touch could be easily implemented as part of training programs for older adults.

Abstract
We evaluated the effect of haptic coordination on anxiety and arousal. Participants looked at a stressful or calming image and then repeatedly squeezed a vibrating stress ball for 20 s. Using a pre-post paradigm with a control group, we showed that squeezing the vibrating ball reduced anxiety and arousal, as assessed by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and electrodermal activity, respectively. The stability of haptic coordination was manipulated by varying the detuning between the spontaneous squeezing frequency and the intrinsic frequency of ball vibration. Coordination stability affected arousal and stress affected stability. The data were discussed in the light of Kahneman's attentional resource-sharing model.

Abstract
Interoceptive awareness (IA) is crucial to understanding mental health. The Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA) scale, available in approximately 30 languages, has gained global recognition for its research applicability. This review highlights the critical importance of integrating IA evaluation in clinical settings, advocating for the MAIA scale's potential as a screening tool. Through an examination of academic databases, including Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and J-STOR, our analysis spans seven mental health domains: eating disorders (ED), depression, stress, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), chronic pain, and suicide ideation (SI). Thirty-eight studies showed links between several dimensions of IA with different disorders. That is, ED was related to Body Trust and Self-Regulation; anxiety to Body Listening, Emotional Awareness, and Self-Regulation; depression to Noticing and Emotional Awareness; ASD to Trusting, Emotional Awareness, and Noticing; chronic pain to Not-Worrying and Self-Regulation; and SI with Trusting. These insights hold profound implications for both clinical practice and mental health research. Integrating IA assessments into standard clinical protocols has the potential to improve our understanding of pathology, enrich patient care, and enhance therapeutic strategies.

Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent public health measures were shown to impact negatively on people's mental health. In particular, women were reported to be at higher risk than men of developing symptoms of stress/anxiety/depression, and resilience was considered a key factor for positive mental health outcomes. In the present study, a sample of Italian female teachers (n = 66, age: 51.5 ± 7.9 years) was assessed with self-report instruments one month before and one month after the start of the Covid-19 lockdown: mindfulness skills, empathy, personality profiles, interoceptive awareness, psychological well-being, emotional distress and burnout levels were measured. Meanwhile, they received an 8-week Mindfulness-Oriented Meditation (MOM) course, through two group meetings and six individual video-lessons. Based on baseline personality profiles, analyses of variance were performed in a low-resilience (LR, n = 32) and a high-resilience (HR, n = 26) group. The LR and HR groups differed at baseline in most of the self-report measures. Pre-post MOM significant improvements were found in both groups in anxiety, depression, affective empathy, emotional exhaustion, psychological well-being, interoceptive awareness, character traits and mindfulness levels. Improvements in depression and psychological well-being were higher in the LR vs. HR group. We conclude that mindfulness-based training can effectively mitigate the psychological negative consequences of the Covid-19 outbreak, helping in particular to restore well-being in the most vulnerable individuals.
