Abstract
Fluorescent fibers are capable of discoloration behavior under special light sources, showing great potential for applications in biomedicine, environmental monitoring, heavy-metal-ion detaction, and anti-counterfeiting. In the current paper, temperature-sensitive fluorescent poly-acrylamide (PAM) nanofiber (AuNCs@PAM NF) membranes are prepared by mixing red fluorescent gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) synthesized in-house with PAM using the electrospinning technique. The AuNCs@PAM nanofibers obtained using this method present excellent morphology, and the AuNCs are uniformly dispersed in the fibers. The average diameter of the AuNCs@PAM NFs is 298 nm, and the diameter of AuNCs doped in the fibers is approximately 2.1 nm. Furthermore, the AuNCs@PAM NF films present excellent fluorescence and temperature-sensitive performance between 15 and 65 degrees. While under the 365 nm UV light source, the fiber film changes from white to red; this discoloration behavior weakens with the increase in temperature, and changes from deep to light red. Therefore, the approximate temperature can be identified using the color change, and a visual temperature-sensing effect can be achieved. The dual functions of temperature-sensitivity and fluorescent properties improve the scientificity and safety of nanofibers in the use of anti-counterfeiting technology.

Abstract
The most notable features of polyurea are its fast reaction, energy-saving and high efficiency. In order to meet the needs of environmental protection, waterborne polyurea (WPUA) has become a research hotspot. However, the presence of hydrophilic groups in WPUA reduces its solvent resistance, heat resistance and mechanical properties. Therefore, it is necessary and valuable to develop a high-performance WPUA. In this study, epoxy-modified waterborne polyurea (WPUAE) emulsions were prepared using epoxy resin as a modifier. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) showed that E44 was successfully introduced into the molecular chain of WPUA. The WPUAE was tested for gel fraction, adhesion, contact angle, solvent resistance, tensile properties and thermal stability. The results showed that when the E44 content was 8 wt%, the performance of WPUAE was best, the adhesion of WPUAE coating film was 1.53 MPa, the gel fraction, water contact angle, water absorption, toluene absorption, tensile strength and decomposition temperature were 96.94%, 70.3°, 16.43%, 131.04%, 9.05 MPa and 365 °C, respectively. The results showed that epoxy resin as an emulsion modifier improved the comprehensive properties of WPUA.

Abstract
Hyperbranched polymers and multiarm star polymers are a type of dendritic polymers which have attracted substantial interest during the last 30 years because of their unique properties. They can be used to modify epoxy thermosets to increase their toughness and flexibility but without adversely affecting other properties such as reactivity or thermal properties. In addition, the final properties of materials can be tailored by modifying the structure, molecular weight, or type of functional end-groups of the hyperbranched and multiarm star polymers. In this review, we focus on the modification of epoxy-based thermosets with hyperbranched and multiarm star polymers in terms of the effect on the curing process of epoxy formulations, thermal, mechanical, and rheological properties, and their advantages in fire retardancy on the final thermosets.

Abstract
As is well known, it is difficult to simultaneously improve both the strength and elongation at break of polymers filled with nanomaterials. This work obtained high-performance composites with enhanced strength and elongation at break via cross-linking hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) chains with hyperbranched-polyamide-modified graphene oxide (HGO), and the preparation, characterization, and mechanical properties of the composites serving as a composite solid-propellant binder have been described in detail. Compared with pure HTPB polyurethane (P-HTPB), the tensile strength and elastic modulus of the composite containing 0.1 wt% HGO (H-0.1/HTPB) increase by 57.8% and 65.3%, respectively. Notably, the elongation at break of the H-0.1/HTPB composite can reach up to 1292.6%, which is even higher than that of P-HTPB. Moreover, the capabilities of the composites to resist deformation have also been enhanced significantly. The glass transition temperatures of the composites are still extremely low (∼-73 °C), which is beneficial for their applications. It can be expected that this study can provide an effective fabrication approach and strategy for preparing high-performance polyurethane composites.

Abstract
Epoxy resins are widely used for different commercial applications, particularly in the aerospace industry as matrix carbon fibre reinforced polymers composite. This is due to their excellent properties, i.e., ease of processing, low cost, superior mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. However, a pure epoxy system possesses some inherent shortcomings, such as brittleness and low elongation after cure, limiting performance of the composite. Several approaches to toughen epoxy systems have been explored, of which formation of the interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) has gained increasing attention. This methodology usually results in better mechanical properties (e.g., fracture toughness) of the modified epoxy system. Ideally, IPNs result in a synergistic combination of desirable properties of two different polymers, i.e., improved toughness comes from the toughener while thermosets are responsible for high service temperature. Three main parameters influence the mechanical response of IPN toughened systems: (i) the chemical structure of the constituents, (ii) the toughener content and finally and (iii) the type and scale of the resulting morphology. Various synthesis routes exist for the creation of IPN giving different means of control of the IPN structure and also offering different processing routes for making composites. The aim of this review is to provide an overview of the current state-of-the-art on toughening of epoxy matrix system through formation of IPN structure, either by using thermoplastics or thermosets. Moreover, the potential of IPN based epoxy systems is explored for the formation of composites particularly for aerospace applications.

Abstract
AbstractIn order to improve the toughness of epoxy resin for grouting material, the flexible hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) was utilized to manufacture a new kind of epoxy resin with high toughness via co-polymerization method. In the procedure of preparing bisphenol A epoxy resin, before the reaction between bisphenol A (BPA) and epichlorohydrin (ECH), HDI was introduced to react with BPA for embedding flexible segments into the chain of epoxy resin, then modified epoxy resin (HDI/EP) was manufactured. The mechanical properties, especially the toughness of the HDI/EP, are significantly increased – the fracture elongation is up to 124%. In addition, the compressed specimens can fully recover to their original shape in a few minutes. Thermal performance and corrosion resistance of the HDI/EP specimen were also investigated, which showed that the specimen can be used under 258°C, and can remain stable in H2SO4, NaOH and NaCl solutions with 10 wt% for 100 h, respectively. The present work provides a convenient avenue pathway to prepare an epoxy resin with high toughness, which may be used in many technologies.

Abstract
Anticounterfeiting materials are neo-advanced materials with utility in covert and security strategies. In this context, a photoluminescent, mechanically robust, and thermally stable hyperbranched polyurethane (PU) nanocomposite was fabricated with oxygeneous-graphitic carbon nitride nanodots. The nanocomposite was characterized using infrared, ultraviolet-visible, and photoluminescence spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, transmission electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The processed nanocomposite demonstrated improved physico-mechanical stability as well as enhanced thermal stability than the pristine PU. The nanocomposite displayed remarkable photoluminescence under long ultraviolet light (365 nm), courtesy of dispersion of oxygeneous-carbon nitride nanodots in the polymer matrix, without any solid-state quenching. The nanocomposite was consequently employed as an ultraviolet light-detectable anticounterfeiting ink material having reinforcing ability.

Abstract
In this paper, a novel modified epoxy resin with an interpenetrating network structure for use as a grouting material with high toughness was prepared by a method of graft copolymerization between polyurethane prepolymer (PUP) trimer and epoxy resin (E-44). Polyurethane prepolymer was synthesized using poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) and 2,4-toluene diisocyanate trimer (TDIT) at 70 °C for 3 h. The graft copolymer was prepared by grafting polyurethane prepolymer onto the side chain of epoxy resin at 110 °C. The mechanical properties, fracture surface morphology, chemical structure, thermal properties, and corrosion resistance of the modified epoxy resin curing products were studied. Due to the beneficial flexible segments and the interpenetrating network structure, the results show that when the ratio of epoxy resin to polyurethane prepolymer is 10:2, the optimum mechanical properties are obtained; these include a compressive resistance of 184.8 MPa, impact property of 76.6 kJ/m2, and elongation at break of 31.5%. At the same time, the modified epoxy resin curing product also has excellent heat and corrosion resistance. This work provides a new method for the study of epoxy resins with high performance.

Abstract
Abstract
In the present study, the influence of incorporating various amounts of hyperbranched polyester (HBPE) into thermosetting resin blends composed of cyanate ester (CE) and benzoxazine (BOZ) resins was investigated for their structural, morphological, mechanical, and thermal properties. The FTIR spectra revealed that the CE/BOZ resin had reacted with the functional groups of HBPE, and the SEM test confirmed the morphological changes from a smooth surface that was observed for the virgin CE/BOZ resin to a rough surface for the maximum HBPE content. Moreover, the mechanical and thermal properties were found to be pointedly enhanced as we increased the content of HBPE. These remarkable enhancements may be due to the chemical structure of the HBPE which could form a cross-linked structure through a strong hydrogen bonding with the CE/BOZ resin. As a result, a considerable amount of applied mechanical load can be absorbed, and in parallel, the thermal stability can also be improved. We believe that the HBPE can be a good toughener for the CE/BOZ resins that could possibly expand their range of applications in various industrial sectors.
