Abstract
For achieving high effectiveness in the management of breast cancer, coadministration of drugs has attracted a lot of interest as a mode of therapy when compared to a single chemotherapeutic agent that often results in reduced therapeutic end results. Owing to their proven effectiveness, good patient compliance, and lower costs, oral anticancer drugs have received much attention. In the present work, we formulated the chitosan-coated nanoliposomes loaded with two lipophilic agents, namely, exemestane (EXE) and genistein (GEN). The formulation was prepared using the ethanol injection method, which is considered a simple method for getting the nanoliposomes. The formulation was optimized using Box-Behnken design (BBD) and was extensively characterized for particle size, ζ-potential, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The sizes of conventional and coated liposomes were found to be 104.6 ± 3.8 and 120.3 ± 6.4 nm with a low polydispersity index of 0.399 and 0.381, respectively. The ζ-potential of the liposomes was observed to be -16.56 mV, which changed to a positive value of +22.4 mV, clearly indicating the complete coating of the nanoliposomes by the chitosan. The average encapsulation efficiency was found to be between 70 and 80% for all prepared formulations. The compatibility of the drug with excipients and complete dispersion of the drug inside the system were verified by FTIR, XRD, and DSC studies. Furthermore, the in vitro release studies concluded the sustained release pattern following the Korsmeyer-Peppas model as the best-fitting model with Fickian diffusion. Ex vivo studies showed better permeation of the chitosan-coated liposomes, which was further confirmed by confocal studies. The prepared chitosan-coated liposomes showed superior antioxidant activity (94.56%) and enhanced % cytotoxicity (IC50 7.253 ± 0.34 μM) compared to the uncoated liposomes. 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay displayed better cytotoxicity of the chitosan-coated nanoliposomes compared to the plain drug, showing the better penetration and enhanced bioavailability of drugs inside the cells. The formulation was found to be safe for administration, which was confirmed using the toxicity studies performed on an animal model. The above data suggested that poorly soluble lipophilic drugs could be successfully delivered via chitosan-coated liposomes for their effective delivery in breast cancer.

Abstract
Fruits and vegetables are one of the most consumed and processed commodities globally and comprise abundant phenolic compounds, one of the main nutraceuticals in the food industry. Comparably elevated rates of these compounds are found in waste (peel, seeds, leaf, stem, etc.) in the food processing industry. They are being investigated for their potential use in functional foods. However, phenolic compounds' low bioavailability limits their application, which can be approached by loading the phenolic compounds into an encapsulation system such as liposomal carriers. This review aims to elucidate the recent trend in extracting phenolic compounds from the waste stream and the means to load them in stable liposomes. Furthermore, the application of these liposomes with only natural extracts in food matrices is also presented. Many studies have indicated that liposomes can be a proper candidate for encapsulating and delivering phenolic compounds and as a means to increase their bioavailability.

Abstract
AIM To determine the optimum condition for preparing chitooligosaccharide-catechin conjugate (COS-CAT) liposomes using different stabilising agents. METHODS COS-CAT liposomes (0.1-1%, w/v) were prepared using soy phosphatidylcholine (SPC) (50-200 mM) and glycerol or cholesterol (25-100 mg). Encapsulation efficiency (EE), loading capacity (LC), physicochemical characteristics, FTIR spectra, thermal stability, and structure of COS-CAT liposomes were assessed. RESULTS COS-CAT loaded liposome stabilised by cholesterol (COS-CAT-CHO) showed higher stability as shown by the highest EE (76.81%) and LC (4.57%) and the lowest zeta potential (ZP) (-76.51 mV), polydispersity index (PDI) (0.2674) and releasing efficiency (RE) (53.54%) (p < 0.05). COS-CAT-CHO showed the highest retention and relative remaining bioactivities of COS-CAT under various conditions (p < 0.05). FTIR spectra revealed the interaction between the choline group of SPC and -OH groups of COS-CAT. Phase transition temperature of COS-CAT-CHO was shifted to 184 °C, which was higher than others (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION SPC and cholesterol-based liposome could be used as a promising vesicle for maintaining bioactivities of COS-CAT.

Abstract
To date, the coffee industry has the second highest market value in the world and consumer behavior has transitioned from drinking coffee just for its caffeine content to reduce sleepiness into an overall experience. Instant cold brew coffee in powder form can preserve the taste of coffee well; moreover, it is easy to transport. Several consumers have increasing interests in implementing lactic acid bacteria in healthy food due to their growing awareness of the probiotic's role. Several scholars have presented stress adaptation characteristics of single probiotic strains; however, comparisons of the stress-tolerant capacities of different probiotic strains are incomplete. Five lactic acid strains are tested for adaptation under four sublethal conditions. Lactobacillus casei is the most resilient probiotic in terms of heat and cold adaptation, while Lactobacillus acidophilus is more tolerant to low acid and bile salt; Then, these probiotics are subjected to a stress challenge that stimulates drying temperature, including a heat and cold stress challenge. The results show that acid adaptation can improve Lactobacillus acidophilus TISTR 1338 tolerance to harsh drying temperatures. In addition, encapsulation using prebiotic extracts from rice bran, with pectin and resistant starch combined through crosslinking and treated by freeze-drying, provides the highest encapsulation efficiency. In summary, acid-adapted L. acidophilus TISTR 1388 at the sublethal level can be applied to high and low temperature processing techniques. Additionally, the amount of viable probiotic after in vitro digestion remains at 5 log CFU/g, which is suitable for application in the production of synbiotic cold brew coffee.

Abstract
In this study, thyme essential oil (essential oil to total lipid: 14.23, 20, 25, and 33.33%)-burdened nanoliposomes with/without maltodextrin solution were infused with natural hydrogels fabricated using equal volumes (1:1, v/v) of pea protein (30%) and gum Arabic (1.5%) solutions. The production process of the solutions infused with gels was verified using FTIR spectroscopy. In comparison to the nanoliposome solution (NL1) containing soybean lecithin and essential oil, the addition of maltodextrin (molar ratio of lecithin to maltodextrin: 0.80, 0.40, and 0.20 for NL2, NL3, and NL4, respectively) to these solutions led to a remarkable shift in particle size (487.10-664.40 nm), negative zeta potential (23.50-38.30 mV), and encapsulation efficiency (56.25-67.62%) values. Distortions in the three-dimensional structure of the hydrogel (H2) constructed in the presence of free (uncoated) essential oil were obvious in the photographs when compared to the control (H1) consisting of a pea protein-gum Arabic matrix. Additionally, the incorporation of NL1 caused visible deformations in the gel (HNL1). Porous surfaces were dominant in H1 and the hydrogels (HNL2, HNL3, and HNL4) containing NL2, NL3, and NL4 in the SEM images. The most convenient values for functional behaviors were found in H1 and HNL4, followed by HNL3, HNL2, HNL1, and H2. This hierarchical order was also valid for mechanical properties. The prominent hydrogels in terms of essential oil delivery throughout the simulated gastrointestinal tract were HNL2, HNL3, and HNL4. To sum up, findings showed the necessity of mediators such as maltodextrin in the establishment of such systems.

Abstract
This study examined the influence of the nanoliposomes (LPs) particle size on the solubility, antioxidant stability, in vitro release profile, Caco-2 cellular transport activity, cellular antioxidant activity, and in vivo oral bioavailability of resveratrol (RSV). LPs with sizes of 300, 150, and 75 nm were prepared using the thin-lipid film hydration method, followed by ultrasonication for 0, 2, and 10 min, respectively. Formulating small LPs (< 100 nm) was effective to enhance the solubility, in vitro release profile, cellular permeability, and cellular antioxidant activity of RSV. A similar pattern was observed for in vivo oral bioavailability. However, the size reduction of RSV-loaded LPs did not promote the antioxidant stability of RSV, owing to their large surface area used to interact with harsh environments. This study provides the better understanding of the appropriate particle size range of LPs to improve their in vitro and in vivo performances of RSV as an effective carrier for oral administration.

Abstract
An unacceptable bitter taste limits the application of luteolin in healthier food systems. In this study, a bitterness-masking assessment was performed on whey protein isolate-coated liposomes loaded with luteolin (WPI-coated liposomes) using an electronic tongue and human sensory test. The physical properties of the WPI-coated colloidal nanocarrier were characterized by zeta potential, average diameter, distribution, and morphology analyses. The results indicated that WPI-coated nanocarrier systems exhibited a uniformly dispersed distribution and spherical morphology. After the comparison of the bitterness value, the bitterness-reducing effect of 5% WPI-coated liposomes was the most significant and reduced the bitterness of luteolin by 75%. Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis demonstrated that the decoration of WPI on the liposomes reduced the free motion of lipid molecules. This promoted the ordering at the polar headgroup area and hydrophobic core of the lipid bilayer, which explained why luteolin-loaded liposomes (uncoated liposomes) and WPI-coated liposomes could reduce the bitterness of luteolin from the perspective of bitter molecular groups. Combined with the Raman spectral data, the bilayer rigidity of 5% WPI-coated liposomes was positively responsive to the stabilization of uncoated liposomes against storage and resistance ability against surfactants. It was proven that the emergence of the surface modification of the WPI coating enhanced the stability of uncoated liposomes. These results may contribute to the use of WPI-coated liposomes as prospective candidates for effective delivery of the bioactive bitter substance in nutraceuticals and functional foods.

Abstract
Liposomes carry various compounds with applications in pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic fields, and the administration route is especially parenteral, oral, or transdermal. Liposomes are used to preserve and release the internal components, thus maintaining the properties of the compounds, the stability and shelf life of the encapsulated products, and their functional benefits. The main problem in obtaining liposomes at the industrial level is their low stability due to fragile phospholipid membranes. To increase the stability of liposomes, phospholipid bilayers have been modified or different coating materials have been developed and studied, both for liposomes with applications in the pharmaceutical field and liposomes in the food field. In the cosmetic field, liposomes need no additional coating because the liposomal formulation is intended to have a fast penetration into the skin. The aim of this review is to provide current knowledge regarding physical and chemical factors that influence stability, coating materials for liposomes with applications in the pharmaceutical and food fields to increase the stability of liposomes containing various sensitive compounds, and absorption of the liposomes and commercial liposomal products obtained through various technologies available on the market.

Abstract
Todays, nanoliposomes (NLPs) are considered as one of the most efficient nanocarriers to deal with bacteria, practically in food products. These nanodelivery systems are able to be loaded with different bioactive compounds. The main aim of this review is investigating recent approaches (mostly from the years of 2018 to 2022) regarding development of nanoliposomal natural antibacterial compounds. In this regard, NLPs alone, combined with films, coatings, or fibers, and in coated forms are reviewed as advanced delivery systems of antibacterial substances. Moreover, a robust and comprehensive coverage of the morphological and physical properties of formulated NLPs as well as their interactions with antibacterial substances are discussed. The importance of NLPs to encapsulate antibacterial ingredients, advantages and drawbacks, antibacterial pathways of formulated NLPs, and comparison of them with pure antibacterial bioactive compounds are also explained.

Abstract
Chitosan-decorated liposomes were proposed for the first time for the intranasal delivery of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) reactivator pralidoxime chloride (2-PAM) to the brain as a therapy for organophosphorus compounds (OPs) poisoning. Firstly, the chitosome composition based on phospholipids, cholesterol, chitosans (Cs) of different molecular weights, and its arginine derivative was developed and optimized. The use of the polymer modification led to an increase in the encapsulation efficiency toward rhodamine B (RhB; ~85%) and 2-PAM (~60%) by 20% compared to conventional liposomes. The formation of monodispersed and stable nanosized particles with a hydrodynamic diameter of up to 130 nm was shown using dynamic light scattering. The addition of the polymers recharged the liposome surface (from -15 mV to +20 mV), which demonstrates the successful deposition of Cs on the vesicles. In vitro spectrophotometric analysis showed a slow release of substrates (RhB and 2-PAM) from the nanocontainers, while the concentration and Cs type did not significantly affect the chitosome permeability. Flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy qualitatively and quantitatively demonstrated the penetration of the developed chitosomes into normal Chang liver and M-HeLa cervical cancer cells. At the final stage, the ability of the formulated 2-PAM to reactivate brain AChE was assessed in a model of paraoxon-induced poisoning in an in vivo test. Intranasal administration of 2-PAM-containing chitosomes allows it to reach the degree of enzyme reactivation up to 35 ± 4%.

Abstract
Lipid and protein oxidation is a main problem related to the preservation of dried aquatic products. Rosemary oleoresin is widely used as an antioxidant, but its application is limited due to its instability and easy degradation. Nanoliposome encapsulation is a promising and rapidly emerging technology in which antioxidants are incorporated into the liposomes to provide the food high quality, safety and long shelf life. The objectives of this study were to prepare nanoliposome coatings of rosemary oleoresin to enhance the antioxidant stability, and to evaluate their potential application in inhibiting protein and lipid oxidation in dried oysters during storage. The nanoliposomes encapsulating rosemary oleoresin were applied with a thin-film evaporation method, and the optimal amount of encapsulated rosemary oleoresin was chosen based on changes in the dynamic light scattering, Zeta potential, and encapsulation efficiency of the nanoliposomes. The Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy of rosemary oleoresin nanoliposomes showed no new characteristic peaks formed after rosemary oleoresin encapsulation, and the particle size of rosemary oleoresin nanoliposomes was 100-200 nm in transmission electron microscopy. The differential scanning calorimetry indicated that the nanoliposomes coated with rosemary oleoresin had better thermal stability. Rosemary oleoresin nanoliposomes presented good antioxidant stability, and still maintained 48% DPPH radical-scavenging activity and 45% ABTS radical-scavenging activity after 28 d of storage, which was 3.7 times and 2.8 times higher than that of empty nanoliposomes, respectively. Compared with the control, the dried oysters coated with rosemary oleoresin nanoliposomes showed significantly lower values of carbonyl, sulfhydryl content, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, Peroxide value, and 4-Hydroxynonenal contents during 28 d of storage. The results provide a theoretical basis for developing an efficient and long-term antioxidant approach.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical, structural, antioxidant and antibacterial properties of chitosan-coated (0.5 and 1% CH) nanoliposomes containing hydrolyzed protein of Spirulina platensis and its stability in simulated gastric and intestine fluids. The chitosan coating of nanoliposomes containing Spirulina platensis hydrolyzed proteins increased their size and zeta potential. The fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) test showed an effective interaction between the hydrolyzed protein, the nanoliposome, and the chitosan coating. Increasing the concentration of hydrolyzed protein and the percentage of chitosan coating neutralized the decreasing effect of microencapsulation on the antioxidant activity of peptides. Chitosan coating (1%) resulted in improved stability of size, zeta potential, and poly dispersity index (PDI) of nanoliposomes, and lowered the release of the hydrolyzed Spirulina platensis protein from nanoliposomes. Increasing the percentage of chitosan coating neutralized the decrease in antibacterial properties of nanoliposomes containing hydrolyzed proteins. This study showed that 1% chitosan-coated nanoliposomes can protect Spirulina platensis hydrolyzed proteins and maintain their antioxidant and antibacterial activities.

Abstract
Caffeine, as one of the most consumed bioactive compounds globally, has gained considerable attention during the last years. Considering the bitter taste and adverse effects of high levels of caffeine consumption, it is crucial to apply a strategy for masking the caffeine's bitter taste and facilitating its programmable deliverance within a long time. Other operational parameters such as food processing parameters, exposure to sunlight and oxygen, and gastrointestinal digestion could also degrade the phenolic compounds in general and caffeine in special. To overcome these challenges, various nano/micro-platforms have been fabricated, including lipid-based (e.g., nanoliposomal vehicles; nanoemulsions, double emulsions, Pickering emulsions; microemulsions; niosomal vehicles; solid lipid nanoparticles and nanostructured lipid carriers), as well as biopolymeric (e.g., nanoparticles; hydrogels, organogels, oleogels; nanofibers and nanotubes; protein-polysaccharide nanocomplexes, conjugates; cyclodextrin inclusion complexes) and inorganic (e.g., gold and silica nanoparticles) nano/micro-structures. In this review, the findings on various caffeine-loaded nano/micro-carriers and their potential applications in functional food products/supplements will be discussed. Also, the controlled release and bioavailability of encapsulated caffeine will be given, and finally, the toxicity and safety of encapsulated caffeine will be presented.

Abstract
This review presents an updated scenario of findings and evolutions of encapsulation of bioactive compounds for food and agricultural applications. Many polymers have been reported as encapsulated agents, such as sodium alginate, gum Arabic, chitosan, cellulose and carboxymethylcellulose, pectin, Shellac, xanthan gum, zein, pullulan, maltodextrin, whey protein, galactomannan, modified starch, polycaprolactone, and sodium caseinate. The main encapsulation methods investigated in the study include both physical and chemical ones, such as freeze-drying, spray-drying, extrusion, coacervation, complexation, and supercritical anti-solvent drying. Consequently, in the food area, bioactive peptides, vitamins, essential oils, caffeine, plant extracts, fatty acids, flavonoids, carotenoids, and terpenes are the main compounds encapsulated. In the agricultural area, essential oils, lipids, phytotoxins, medicines, vaccines, hemoglobin, and microbial metabolites are the main compounds encapsulated. Most scientific investigations have one or more objectives, such as to improve the stability of formulated systems, increase the release time, retain and protect active properties, reduce lipid oxidation, maintain organoleptic properties, and present bioactivities even in extreme thermal, radiation, and pH conditions. Considering the increasing worldwide interest for biomolecules in modern and sustainable agriculture, encapsulation can be efficient for the formulation of biofungicides, biopesticides, bioherbicides, and biofertilizers. With this review, it is inferred that the current scenario indicates evolutions in the production methods by increasing the scales and the techno-economic feasibilities. The Technology Readiness Level (TRL) for most of the encapsulation methods is going beyond TRL 6, in which the knowledge gathered allows for having a functional prototype or a representative model of the encapsulation technologies presented in this review.

Abstract
Nanoliposomes, bilayer vesicles at the nanoscale, are becoming popular because of their safety, patient compliance, high entrapment efficiency, and prompt action. Several notable biological activities of natural essential oils (EOs), including fungal inhibition, are of supreme interest. As developed, multi-compositional nanoliposomes loaded with various concentrations of clove essential oil (CEO) and tea tree oil (TTO) were thoroughly characterized to gain insight into their nano-size distribution. The present work also aimed to reconnoiter the sustainable synthesis conditions to estimate the efficacy of EOs in bulk and EO-loaded nanoliposomes with multi-functional entities. Following a detailed nano-size characterization of in-house fabricated EO-loaded nanoliposomes, the antifungal efficacy was tested by executing the mycelial growth inhibition (MGI) test using Trichophyton rubrum fungi as a test model. The dynamic light scattering (DLS) profile of as-fabricated EO-loaded nanoliposomes revealed the mean size, polydispersity index (PdI), and zeta potential values as 37.12 ± 1.23 nm, 0.377 ± 0.007, and −36.94 ± 0.36 mV, respectively. The sphere-shaped morphology of CEO and TTO-loaded nanoliposomes was confirmed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The existence of characteristic functional bands in all tested counterparts was demonstrated by attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy. Compared to TTO-loaded nanoliposomes, the CEO-loaded nanoliposomes exhibited a maximum entrapment efficacy of 91.57 ± 2.5%. The CEO-loaded nanoliposome fraction, prepared using 1.5 µL/mL concentration, showed the highest MGI of 98.4 ± 0.87% tested against T. rubrum strains compared to the rest of the formulations.

Abstract
To meet the demands for more effective and ecofriendly food packaging strategies, the potential of nisin-loaded rhamnolipid functionalized nanofillers (rhamnosomes) has been explored after embedding in hydroxypropyl-methylcellulose (HPMC) and κ-carrageenan (κ-CR)-based packaging films. It was observed that intrinsically active rhamnosomes based nanofillers greatly improved the mechanical and optical properties of nano-active packaging (NAP) films. Incorporation of rhamnosomes resulted in higher tensile strength (5.16 ± 0.06 MPa), Young’s modulus (2777 ± 0.77 MPa), and elongation (2.58 ± 0.03%) for NAP than active packaging containing free nisin (2.96 ± 0.03 MPa, 1107 ± 0.67 MPa, 1.48 ± 0.06%, respectively). NAP demonstrated a homogenous distribution of nanofillers in the biopolymer matrix as elucidated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed that NAP prepared with nisin-loaded rhamnosomes was thermally stable even above 200 °C. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses revealed that addition of nisin in nanofillers resulted in a slight increase in Tg (108.40 °C), indicating thermal stability of NAP. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) revealed slight shift in all characteristic bands of nano-active packaging, which indicated the embedding of rhamnosomes inside the polymer network without any chemical interaction. Finally, when tested on chicken breast filets and cheese slices under refrigerated storage conditions, NAP demonstrated broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity (up to 4.5 log unit reduction) and inhibited the growth of Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli. These results suggest that HPMC and κ-CR-based NAP containing functionalized nanofillers can serve as an innovative packaging material for the food industry to improve the safety, quality, and shelf-life of dairy and meat products.

Abstract
Taste is the most crucial organoleptic parameter affecting patient compliance in the case of drugs with poor palatability. Taste masking is a major challenge for the development of orally ingested active pharmaceutical constituents in the pharmaceutical industry. Numerous conventional taste-masking techniques have been extensively studied. In parallel, affecting the drug solubility or release is a major concern of conventional taste-masking techniques. Recently, many nanocarrier systems have been introduced, claiming the advantage of effective taste masking without affecting either the drug solubility or its release. In this review, we will present new techniques for taste masking, including taste-masking techniques utilizing nanocarrier systems such as liposomes, polymeric and solid lipid nanoparticles, polymeric micelles, submicron lipid emulsions, and nanogels. We will chiefly highlight the composition of these systems and their applications in designing oral therapeutic delivery systems successful in masking the taste of bitter molecules.

Abstract
Chitin-glucan complex (CGC) hydrogels were fabricated through a freeze–thaw procedure for biopolymer dissolution in NaOH 5 mol/L, followed by a dialysis step to promote gelation. Compared to a previously reported methodology that included four freeze–thaw cycles, reducing the number of cycles to one had no significant impact on the hydrogels’ formation, as well as reducing the total freezing time from 48 to 18 h. The optimized CGC hydrogels exhibited a high and nearly spontaneous swelling ratio (2528 ± 68%) and a water retention capacity of 55 ± 3%, after 2 h incubation in water, at 37 °C. Upon loading with caffeine as a model drug, an enhancement of the mechanical and rheological properties of the hydrogels was achieved. In particular, the compressive modulus was improved from 23.0 ± 0.89 to 120.0 ± 61.64 kPa and the storage modulus increased from 149.9 ± 9.8 to 315.0 ± 76.7 kPa. Although the release profile of caffeine was similar in PBS and NaCl 0.9% solutions, the release rate was influenced by the solutions’ pH and ionic strength, being faster in the NaCl solution. These results highlight the potential of CGC based hydrogels as promising structures to be used as drug delivery devices in biomedical applications.

Abstract
This review focuses on key topics in the field of drug delivery related to the design of nanocarriers answering the biomedicine criteria, including biocompatibility, biodegradability, low toxicity, and the ability to overcome biological barriers. For these reasons, much attention is paid to the amphiphile-based carriers composed of natural building blocks, lipids, and their structural analogues and synthetic surfactants that are capable of self-assembly with the formation of a variety of supramolecular aggregates. The latter are dynamic structures that can be used as nanocontainers for hydrophobic drugs to increase their solubility and bioavailability. In this section, biodegradable cationic surfactants bearing cleavable fragments are discussed, with ester- and carbamate-containing analogs, as well as amino acid derivatives received special attention. Drug delivery through the biological barriers is a challenging task, which is highlighted by the example of transdermal method of drug administration. In this paper, nonionic surfactants are primarily discussed, including their application for the fabrication of nanocarriers, their surfactant-skin interactions, the mechanisms of modulating their permeability, and the factors controlling drug encapsulation, release, and targeted delivery. Different types of nanocarriers are covered, including niosomes, transfersomes, invasomes and chitosomes, with their morphological specificity, beneficial characteristics and limitations discussed.

Abstract
The present work was conducted to develop a new polysaccharide-based encapsulation system via electrostatic interactions between Prunus armeniaca gum exudates (PAGE) and Ca2+ ions to enhance the biological activity and bioavailability of curcumin. The effects of different levels of pH (6, 7, and 8) and ion concentrations (1, 3, and 5) on the particle diameter and surface charge of the samples were examined. The encapsulation efficiency in the PAGE-based nanoparticles was realized to be 86.1%, indicating the encapsulation technique applied in this study was effective to entrap most of the curcumin within the PAGE matrix. The nanoparticles showed a smooth surface with spherical shape. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (X-ray) studies confirmed the formation of polyelectrolyte complexation. The cumulative release of curcumin in simulated gastrointestinal tract was less than 75%, revealing a gradual release trend. Both pure curcumin and curcumin-loaded nanoparticles were toxic to the cancer cell lines.

Abstract
Liposomes (LS) were prepared using chitosan-epigallocatechin gallate (CE) conjugate (0.1 and 0.5%, w/v) and soy phosphatidylcholine (SPC)/cholesterol as a lipid phase (LP) (30 and 60 µmol mL-1). The encapsulation efficiency (EE), particle diameter, zeta potential, and polydispersity index of LS were observed. The highest EE (76.96%) was found when LS was prepared using 0.5% (w/v) of CE conjugate and 60 µmol mL-1 of LP (CELP-60-0.5) (p < 0.05). FTIR analysis showed the interaction between choline present in SPC and OH-groups of CE conjugate. The phase transition temperature of CELP-60-0.5 was 134.67 °C, higher than other samples (p < 0.05). CELP-60-0.5 showed inhibitory action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Higher retention of antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of CELP-60-0.5 was observed than unencapsulated CE conjugate sample when stored for 28 days at 30 °C (p < 0.05). LS might be used as an efficient vesicle for maintaining bioactivities of CE conjugate, plausibly when used as a preservative in foods.

Abstract
With people's increasing awareness of diseases treatment, the researchers began to focus on drug delivery to the exact site of action at the optimal rate. Some researchers have proved that many nanostructures loaded with drugs are significantly better than conventional nanostructures. However, the materials from which the nanostructure determines its performance. To use it as a pharmaceutical ingredient, it must meet strict safety regulatory standards worldwide. Therefore, people's attention has paid to easily available natural substances. As far as we know, bioactive polysaccharides are excellent candidates for realizing these purposes. To be precise, due to the natural availability of polysaccharides, it has been widely used in the research of Nano-biocarriers loaded with drugs. Based on the above analysis, the nanomaterials developed through the laboratory have great potential for upgrading to market products. Therefore, it is of great significance to review the latest progress of polysaccharide-based Nano-biocarriers in drug delivery and their application in diseases treatment. In this work, we focused on the preparation of polysaccharides-based Nano-biocarriers, commonly used polysaccharides for preparing Nano-biocarriers, and drugs loaded on polysaccharides-based Nano-biocarriers to treat diseases. Shortly, polysaccharide-based Nano-biocarriers will be increasingly used in drug delivery and treatment of diseases.

Abstract
Gums are carbohydrate biomolecules that have the potential to bind water and form gels. Gums are regularly linked with proteins and minerals in their construction. Gums have several forms, such as mucilage gums, seed gums, exudate gums, etc. Plant gums are one of the most important gums because of their bioavailability. Plant-derived gums have been used by humans since ancient times for numerous applications. The main features that make them appropriate for use in different applications are high stabilization, viscosity, adhesive property, emulsification action, and surface-active activity. In many pharmaceutical formulations, plant-based gums and mucilages are the key ingredients due to their bioavailability, widespread accessibility, non-toxicity, and reasonable prices. These compete with many polymeric materials for use as different pharmaceuticals in today's time and have created a significant achievement from being an excipient to innovative drug carriers. In particular, scientists and pharmacy industries around the world have been drawn to uncover the secret potential of plant-based gums and mucilages through a deeper understanding of their physicochemical characteristics and the development of safety profile information. This innovative unique class of drug products, useful in advanced drug delivery applications, gene therapy, and biosynthesis, has been developed by modification of plant-based gums and mucilages. In this review, both fundamental and novel medicinal aspects of plant-based gums and mucilages, along with their capacity for pharmacology and nanomedicine, were demonstrated.
