Abstract
The increasing demand for sustainable agricultural practices prompts a reevaluation of feeding strategies in ruminant nutrition. Agricultural waste, often viewed as a by-product (BP), presents a promising opportunity to enhance the sustainability of livestock production systems. This review explores the potential of incorporating various agricultural BPs into ruminant diets. Utilizing these BPs reduces the environmental impact of livestock farming and contributes to the circular economy by recycling nutrients back into the food system. The nutritional composition of these wastes varies widely, and their inclusion in ruminant diets improves feed efficiency, animal performance and overall health. Research indicates that specific treatments, such as fermentation and ensiling, enhance the digestibility and nutrient availability of these materials. Moreover, incorporating agricultural waste into ruminant nutrition leads to financial benefits for farmers by reducing reliance on conventional feed sources. However, key challenges remain, particularly the need for further research to optimize inclusion rates and address potential anti-nutritional factors found in some agricultural wastes. Notably, adding these materials to ruminant diets results in 10%-30% reductions in feed costs and improvements of 5%-20% in key performance metrics, such as weight gain and milk production. These findings highlight the economic and sustainability benefits of utilizing agricultural BPs in livestock feeding practices. This review emphasizes the necessity of developing innovative and sustainable feeding strategies that leverage agricultural waste, calling for interdisciplinary approaches that combine animal nutrition, agronomy and environmental science. By adopting these practices, the livestock sector contributes to food security while minimizing its ecological footprint. Future research focuses on innovative processing techniques, effective management of anti-nutritional factors, and assessing long-term impacts on animal health and productivity. Additionally, examining the nutritional and health aspects of commonly used BPs, such as pomegranate, grape, pistachio, saffron, raisin, olive and tomato, is essential for fully understanding their potential in ruminant nutrition and guiding the development of targeted feeding strategies.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of burdock fructooligosaccharide (BFO) treatment on postharvest blueberries, specifically focusing on the influence of membrane lipid metabolism on overall quality. Our findings revealed that BFO treatment effectively suppressed decay index and preserved firmness in blueberry fruit. At the same time, BFO treatment effectively mitigated the production of H2O2 and malondialdehyde (MDA), while reinforcing the activities of antioxidant enzymes and enhancing the expression level. Moreover, BFO treatment preserved high amounts of unsaturated fatty acids while suppressing the gene expression and enzyme activity of phospholipase D (PLD), lipase, and lipoxygenase (LOX). In summary, the application of BFO effectively retards the metabolism of membrane lipids and preserves the integrity of cell membranes, thereby delaying blueberry senescence.

Abstract
Drought is a problematic abiotic stress affecting citrus crops in the Mediterranean basin and the rootstock plays a fundamental role in adopting adaptive mechanisms in response to water deficit. The aim of this study is to evaluate the response of eight rootstocks under three treatments imposed: control (100% of reference evapotranspiration, Et0), 66% Et0 and 50% Et0. The rootstock genotypes studied were C35 citrange, Bitters, Carpenter and Furr which have been recently spread and so far, little investigated, while others have been widely used especially in the Mediterranean citrus industry, i.e., Citrus macrophylla, C. volkameriana, Swingle citrumelo and Carrizo citrange. Morphological analyses, leaf chlorophyll content determination, physiological measurement, proline accumulation, malondialdehyde determination and antioxidant enzyme activities were measured. The results exhibited that Bitters and Furr showed an increment in leaf area to reduce the effects of drought conditions. A decrement in gas exchanges and xylem water potential was noticed in Carrizo and C35 citrange at both water shortage treatments. Carrizo exhibited a significant increase in malondialdehyde at both stresses (90.3 and 103.3%, for 66 and 50% Et0). Bitters and Furr performed better than the other rootstocks with regard to enzymatic and hormonal assays. Specifically, Bitters showed a significant reduction in CAT (-68.6%), SOD (-82.5%) and APX (-36.7%). Furthermore, Bitters and Furr were closely related to morphological parameters, e.g., leaf area and root length, and physiological measurements. C. volkameriana showed a decrease in xylem water potential, while overall Carrizo and C35 citranges showed a susceptible response to water stress reducing morphological and physiological measurements.

Abstract
Phospholipase D plays a critical regulatory role in the pathogenicity of filamentous fungi. However, the molecular mechanism of PLD regulating the pathogenicity of filamentous fungi has not been reported. In this research, the previously constructed TrPLD1 and TrPLD2 (TrPLDs) mutants were used as test strains. Firstly, the function of TrPLDs in Trichothecium roseum was studied. Then, the effects of TrPLDs on the pathogenicity of T. roseum and the quality of the inoculated apples were verified. The results suggested that the deletion of TrPLD1 delayed the spore germination of ΔTrPLD1 and inhibited germ tube elongation by down-regulating the expressions of TrbrlA, TrabaA and TrwetA. By down-regulating the extracellular enzyme-coding gene expressions, ΔTrPLD1 inhibited the degradation of apple fruit cell wall and the change of fatty acid content during infection, reduced the cell membrane permeability and malondialdehyde (MDA) content of apple fruit, thereby maintaining the integrity of fruit cell membrane, and reduced the pathogenicity of ΔTrPLD1 to apple and kept the quality of apple. However, ΔTrPLD2 did not have a significant effect on the infection process of apple fruit by the pathogen.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The postharvest physiological disorder known as 'black spot' in radish roots (Raphanus sativus) poses a significant challenge to quality maintenance during storage, particularly under summer conditions. The cause of this disorder, however, is poorly understood. OBJECTIVES Characterize the underlying causes of 'black spot' disorder in radish roots and identify strategies to delay its onset. METHODS Radish roots were placed in either polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or oriented polypropylene (OPP) packaging and stored for 4 days at 30 °C. Appearance and physiological parameters were assessed and transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses were conducted to identify the key molecular and biochemical factors contributing to the disorder and strategies for delaying its onset and development. RESULTS OPP packaging effectively delayed the onset of 'black spot' in radishes, potentially due to changes in phenolic and lipid metabolism. Regarding phenolic metabolism, POD and PPO activity decreased, RsCCR and RsPOD expression was downregulated, genes involved in phenols and flavonoids synthesis were upregulated and their content increased, preventing the oxidative browning of phenols and generally enhancing stress tolerance. Regarding lipid metabolism, the level of alpha-linolenic acid increased, and genes regulating cutin and wax synthesis were upregulated. Notably, high flavonoid and low ROS levels collectively inhibited RsPLA2G expression, which reduced the production of arachidonic acid, pro-inflammatory compounds (LTA4 and PGG2), and ROS, alleviating the inflammatory response and oxidative stress in radish epidermal tissues. CONCLUSION PVC packaging enhanced the postharvest onset of 'black spot' in radishes, while OPP packaging delayed both its onset and development. Our study provides insights into the response of radishes to different packaging materials during storage, and the causes and host responses that either enhance or delay 'black spot' disorder onset. Further studies will be conducted to confirm the molecular and biochemical processes responsible for the onset and development of 'black spot' in radishes.

Abstract
Tocopherols are lipophilic antioxidants known as vitamin E and synthesized from the condensation of two metabolic pathways leading to the formation of homogentisate and phytyl diphosphate. While homogentisate is derived from tyrosine metabolism, phytyl diphosphate may be formed from geranylgeranyl diphosphate or phytol recycling from chlorophyll degradation. Here, we hypothesized that abscisic acid (ABA) could induce tocopherol biosynthesis in sweet cherries by modifying the expression of genes involved in vitamin E biosynthesis, including those from the phytol recycling pathway. Hence, the expression of key tocopherol biosynthesis genes was determined together with vitamin E and chlorophyll contents during the natural development of sweet cherries on the tree. Moreover, the effects of exogenously applied ABA on the expression of key tocopherol biosynthesis genes were also investigated during on-tree fruit development, and tocopherols and chlorophylls contents were analyzed. Results showed that the expression of tocopherol biosynthesis genes, including VTE5, VTE6, HPPD and HPT showed contrasting patterns of variation, but in all cases, increased by 2- and 3-fold over time during fruit de-greening. This was not the case for GGDR and VTE4, the first showing constitutive expression during fruit development and the second with marked down-regulation at ripening onset. Furthermore, exogenous ABA stimulated the production of both α- and γ-tocopherols by 60% and 30%, respectively, promoted chlorophyll degradation and significantly enhanced VTE5 and VTE6 expression, and also that of HPPD and VTE4, altogether increasing total tocopherol accumulation. In conclusion, ABA increases promote the transcription of phytol recycling enzymes, which may contribute to vitamin E biosynthesis during fruit development in stone fruits like sweet cherries.

Abstract
Citrus fruit were easily infected by Penicillium digitatum, and caused green mold rapidly, resulting in enormous post-harvest losses. ε-poly-l-lysine (ε-PL) was generally regarded as a safe (GRAS) substance. Besides, it was proved to have a dual effect on harming fungi and triggering fruit defense responses. Fatty acid metabolism is closely related to fruit defense response. However, little is known about how ε-PL affected fatty acid metabolism in citrus fruit. Here, we found that ε-PL increased the expression of CsFATA, CsACSL, CsFAD2, CsFAD3, CsLOX2S, and CsHPL in fatty acid metabolism, decreasing oleic acid levels and enhancing linoleic and linolenic acid levels. Additionally, ε-PL enriched the activities of LOX and HPL during the oxidative decomposition of fatty acids, and activating C9 aldehyde biosynthesis. Interestingly, ε-PL combined with (2E,4E)-nonadienal (C9 aldehyde) would improve the inhibitory effect against Penicillium digitatum. And the combined bio-fungicide significantly delayed the citrus green mold compared to single concentrations of the individual components. These results suggested that ε-PL improved citrus fruit defense responses through fatty acid-mediated defense responses. Combined bio-fungicide consisting of ε-PL and (2E,4E)-nonadienal have an excellent prospect for controlling citrus green mold.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Apple is an economically important fruit crop. Changes in metabolism accompanying human-guided evolution can be revealed using a multiomics approach. We perform genome-wide metabolic analysis of apple fruits collected from 292 wild and cultivated accessions representing various consumption types. RESULTS We find decreased amounts of certain metabolites, including tannins, organic acids, phenolic acids, and flavonoids as the wild accessions transition to cultivated apples, while lysolipids increase in the "Golden Delicious" to "Ralls Janet" pedigree, suggesting better storage. We identify a total of 222,877 significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms that are associated with 2205 apple metabolites. Investigation of a region from 2.84 to 5.01 Mb on chromosome 16 containing co-mapping regions for tannins, organic acids, phenolic acids, and flavonoids indicates the importance of these metabolites for fruit quality and nutrition during breeding. The tannin and acidity-related genes Myb9-like and PH4 are mapped closely to fruit weight locus fw1 from 3.41 to 3.76 Mb on chromosome 15, a region under selection during domestication. Lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LPE) 18:1, which is suppressed by fatty acid desaturase-2 (FAD2), is positively correlated to fruit firmness. We find the fruit weight is negatively correlated with salicylic acid and abscisic acid levels. Further functional assays demonstrate regulation of these hormone levels by NAC-like activated by Apetala3/Pistillata (NAP) and ATP binding cassette G25 (ABCG25), respectively. CONCLUSIONS This study provides a metabolic perspective for selection on fruit quality during domestication and improvement, which is a valuable resource for investigating mechanisms controlling apple metabolite content and quality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Plant cells usually sustain a stable membrane potential due to influx and/or efflux of charged ions across plasma membrane. With the growth and development of plants, different tissues and cells undergo systemic or local programmed decline. Whether the membrane potential of plasma membrane could report senescence signal of plant tissues and cells is unclear. RESULTS We applied a maneuverable transmembrane potential (TMP) detection method with patch-clamp setup to examine the senescence signal of leaf tissue cells in situ over the whole life cycle in Arabidopsis thaliana. The data showed that the TMPs of plant tissues and cells were varied at different growth stages, and the change of TMP was higher at the vegetative growth stage than at the reproductive stage of plant growth. The distinct change of TMP was detectable between the normal and the senescent tissues and cells in several plant species. Moreover, diverse abiotic stimuli, such as heat stress, hyperpolarized the TMP in a short time, followed by depolarized membrane potential with the senescence occurring. We further examined the TMP of plant chloroplasts, which also indicates the senescence signal in organelles. CONCLUSIONS This convenient TMP detection method can report the senescence signal of plant tissues and cells, and can also indicate the potential of plant tolerance to environmental stress.

Abstract
The loss of tomatoes caused by Botrytis cinerea (B. cinerea) is one of the crucial issues restricting the tomato yield. This study screened the elicitor protein phosphopentomutase from Bacillus velezensis LJ02 (BvEP) which improves the tomato resistance to B. cinerea. Phosphatemutase was reported to play a crucial role in the nucleoside synthesis of various microorganisms. However, there is no report on improving plant resistance by phosphopentomutase, and the related signaling pathway in the immune response has not been elucidated. High purity recombinant BvEP protein have no direct inhibitory effect on B. cinerea in vitro,and but induce the hypersensitivity response (HR) in Nicotiana tabacum. Tomato leaves overexpressing BvEP were found to be significantly more resistant to B. cinerea by Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation. Several defense genes, including WRKY28 and PTI5 of PAMP-triggered immunity (PTI), UDP and UDP1 of effector-triggered immunity (ETI), Hin1 and HSR203J of HR, PR1a of systemic acquired resistance (SAR) and the SAR related gene NPR1 were all up-regulated in transgenic tomato leaves overexpressing BvEP. In addition, it was found that transient overexpression of BvEP reduced the rotting rate and lesion diameter of tomato fruits caused by B. cinerea, and increased the expression of PTI, ETI, SAR-related genes, ROS content, SOD and POD activities in tomato fruits, while there was no significant effect on the weight loss and TSS, TA and Vc contents of tomato fruits. This study provides new insights into innovative breeding of tomato disease resistance and has great significance for loss reduction and income enhancement in the tomato industry.

Abstract
Gannan navel orange (Citrus sinensis Osbeck cv. Newhall) is an economically important fruit, but postharvest loss occurs easily during storage. In this study, the effects of different temperatures, light illuminations, and low-temperature plasma treatments on the water loss and quality of the Gannan navel orange were investigated. The fruit began to rot after 90 d of storage at 5 °C and 20-45 d at 26 °C. Navel oranges stored at 26 °C had 7.2-fold and 3.1-fold higher rates of water loss at the early and late storage stages, respectively, as compared with those stored at 5 °C. Storage at 5 °C decreased the contents of total soluble solids at the early storage stage and the contents of titratable acids at the late storage stage, whereas storage at 26 °C decreased the contents of total soluble solids at the late storage stage and the contents of titratable acids at the early storage stage, respectively. Application of low-temperature plasma produced by air ionization for 6 min, or continuous blue or red light illumination significantly inhibited water loss within 7 and 21 d of storage at 22 °C, respectively, but exhibited no significant effect on fruit quality. Furthermore, the low-temperature plasma treatment protected against fruit rot. Thus, treatment with low-temperature plasma followed by storage at a low temperature under continuous red or blue light illumination was of potential value as a green technology for preserving Gannan navel orange during storage.

Abstract
The rot and deterioration of sprouts are closely related to their physiological state and postharvest storage quality. The study investigated the influences of brassinolide, zeaxanthin, and their combination on physiological metabolism, chlorophyll fluorescence, and nutritional quality of radish sprouts stored at 4 °C. The combined treatments enhanced hypocotyl length, fresh weight, contents of secondary metabolites, nutritional ingredients, glutathione, the photoprotective capacity of PSII, and FRAP level in radish sprouts compared with zeaxanthin alone. The combined treatments enhanced hypocotyl length, fresh weight, glutathione content, Fv/Fm value, and antioxidant capacity in sprouts compared to brassinolide alone. The combined treatment of zeaxanthin and brassinolide could make radish sprouts keep high biomass and antioxidant capacity by increasing the contents of stress-resistant metabolites and by weakening the photoinhibition of PSII in radish sprouts stored at 4 °C.

Abstract
Penicillium expansum is a necrotrophic pathogen, which actively kills host cells and obtains nutrients from dead cells to achieve infection. However, few reports have elucidated the differential levels of carbon and nitrogen sources over increasing distances of the leading edge in fungal colonized fruit tissues during colonization. Our results showed that the highest consumption of sucrose and fructose, as well as the accumulation of glucose, were found in the decayed region of P. expansum-colonized ‘Delicious’ apple fruit compared with the healthy region at the leading edge and the healthy region 6 mm away from the leading edge. As nitrogen sources, the contents of methionine, glutamate, leucine, valine, isoleucine and serine were the lowest in the decayed region compared with the healthy regions during colonization. In addition, the titratable acidity, oxalic acid, citric acid, succinic acid and malic acid showed the highest accumulation in the decayed region compared with the healthy regions. P. expansum colonization induced the accumulation of saturated fatty acids in the decayed region, while the level of unsaturated fatty acids was the lowest. These changes were not observed in the healthy regions. These results indicated that P. expansum kills cells in advance of its colonization in order to obtain the nutrients of the apple tissue from the distal leading tissue of the colonized apple. It is understood that more carbon and nitrogen sources are required for fungal colonization, and a stronger defense response against colonization occurred in the fruit, causing the transit of nutrients from the distal tissue to the infected sites.

Abstract
There is a significant hazard of human exposure to the organophosphates which is a constant threat, and they are responsible for numerous cases of poisoning and mammalian toxicity annually in non-target wildlife. The antioxidants, including the vitamin C (Vit C), have a protective effect on some organophosphorus compounds-induced organ damage. Quinalphos (QP) is one of these compounds. The investigation's objective is to see if there was any effect of QP on the rat ileum which could be rectified by using Vit C. Three groups of 24 animals were created. As a control, the first group was given pure water. Second group subjected to oral gavages of QPs. Third group rats were given oral gavages of Vit C plus QPs for 10 days. The reaction of ileal enterocytes to food-borne QPs was marked by poorly organized microvilli, numerous vacuoles within them, disrupted nuclei with chromatin margination, disoriented mitochondria, and an expanded intercellular space. The absorptive columnar cell illustrated many vacuoles inside with herniation of microvilli, and normal goblet cells were also seen. Many Paneth cells towards the lumen of intestinal gland contained secretory granules of different sizes and shapes. The histological architecture of the ileal mucosa in the QP plus Vit C group was found to be close to those of healthy controls. The outcomes of this study suggest that administering Vit C in rats treated with QPs protects them from ill dysfunction caused by QP.

Abstract
Chilling injury is a physiological disorder affecting the quality of carambola fruit. In the present study, the effect of exogenous γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) on CI development in carambola fruit during storage at 4°C for 15 days was investigated. The results showed that 2.5-mM GABA reduced CI index, maintained pericarp lightness, and decreased the electrolyte leakage (EL) and malondialdehyde content (MDA) while increased the superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT) enzyme activities. Endogenous GABA content was significantly higher in the treated fruit than in the control fruit during the whole storage. Besides, the treatment promoted the accumulation of proline and ascorbic acid (AsA) under chilling stress. Compared to the control, GABA-treated fruit exhibited a higher activity of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) and total phenolic compounds, and a lower activity of polyphenol oxidase (PPO). In addition, the Safranin O/fast green staining revealed via microscopic images that the GABA treatment reduced the cell walls degradation of carambola fruit. Moreover, the results displayed a lower activity of phospholipase D (PLD) and lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes, which coincided with a higher content of oleic acid (C18:1), linoleic acid (C18:2n6), and α-linolenic acid (C18:3n3) after 15 days of treatment, leading to the maintenance of the integrity and prevention of the membrane of the rapid softening of carambola fruit. The findings of the present work showed particularly new insights into the crosstalk between GABA and fatty acids. GABA might preserve the pericarp of carambola fruit by increasing the content of the unsaturated fatty acid (UFA) γ-linolenic acid and reducing the saturated fatty acid (SFA) such as caproic acid (C6:0), caprylic acid (C8:0), myristic acid (C14:0), and palmitic acid (C16:0) progressively. GABA can be used as an appropriate postharvest technology for improving the quality of carambola fruit during low-temperature storage.

Abstract
To elucidate the mechanism underlying special characteristic differences between a spontaneous seedling mutant 'Huapi' kumquat (HP) and its wild-type 'Rongan' kumquat (RA), the fruit quality, metabolic profiles, and gene expressions of the peel and flesh were comprehensively analyzed. Compared with RA, HP fruit has distinctive phenotypes such as glossy peel, light color, and few amounts of oil glands. Interestingly, HP also accumulated higher flavonoid (approximately 4.1-fold changes) than RA. Based on metabolomics analysis, we identified 201 differential compounds, including 65 flavonoids and 37 lipids. Most of the differential flavonoids were glycosylated by hexoside and accumulated higher contents in the peel but lower in the flesh of HP than those of RA fruit. For differential lipids, most of them belonged to lysophosphatidycholines (LysoPCs) and lysophosphatidylethanolamines (LysoPEs) and exhibited low abundance in both peel and flesh of HP fruit. In addition, structural genes associated with the flavonoid and lipid pathways were differentially regulated between the two kumquat varieties. Gene expression analysis also revealed the significant roles of UDP-glycosyltransferase (UGT) and phospholipase genes in flavonoid and glycerophospholipid metabolisms, respectively. These findings provide valuable information for interpreting the mutation mechanism of HP kumquat.

Abstract
The objectives of the experiment were to study the effects of adding polyethylene glycol (PEG) to steer ration containing high sorghum tannins on rumen fermentation, nutrient digestion, nitrogen (N) balance and plasma biochemical parameters. Eight growing steers at 16 months of age were allotted to a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design with 4 treatments and 4 periods (19 d each). Polyethylene glycol at 0, 1.75, 3.50 and 7.00 g/kg dry matter (DM) were added to a basal ration containing 27.82% DM of sorghum grain (total tannins 3.3 g/kg DM) as the treatments. The results indicated that adding PEG quadratically increased the ruminal pH (P = 0.049), tended to linearly increase the ruminal concentration of total volatile fatty acids (P = 0.070), increased the molar proportion of acetate (P = 0.016), linearly decreased the molar proportion of butyrate (P = 0.015), and tended to increase the molar proportion of iso-valerate (P = 0.061) and the ruminal concentration of ammonia N (P = 0.092). Adding PEG tended to quadratically decrease the relative abundance of methanogenic archaea (P = 0.082), linearly decreased the relative abundance of Fibrobacter succinogenes (P = 0.008) and decreased the relative abundance of Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens (P = 0.048) at 7.00 g/kg DM. Dietary addition with PEG increased the crude protein (CP) digestibility (P < 0.001) and tended to increase the neutral detergent fiber digestibility (P = 0.066) in a linear manner. Adding PEG to basal ration also increased the plasma globulin concentration (P = 0.029) and tended to linearly increase the plasma total protein concentration (P = 0.069). Adding PEG linearly decreased the fecal N excretion (P < 0.001) and the fecal N-to-total N excretion ratio (P = 0.004) and increased the urinary N-to-total N excretion ratio (P = 0.004) and urinary urea excretion (P = 0.010) without affecting the urinary N and total N excretions (P > 0.05). It was concluded that adding PEG effectively improved the CP digestibility of the ration containing high sorghum tannins but increased the urinary urea excretion without improving the N retention and N retention rate in steers.

Abstract
Green mold caused by Penicillium digitatum is an important factor limiting the shelf life of mandarin fruit. In this study, the effect of ultraviolet-C (UV-C) irradiation on cellular structure, endogenous jasmonic acid (JA), and development of P. digitatum in satsuma mandarin fruit was investigated. UV-C treatments included 0 (untreated control), 3, and 10 kJ m−2 or the exposure time of 0, 1.18, and 4.52 min, respectively. The UV-C dose of 10 kJ m−2 significantly reduced the development of P. digitatum both in vitro and in vivo, resulting in the maintenance of the cellular structure of the albedo tissue. The production of malondialdehyde (MDA) was decreased upon UV-C treatment of 10 kJ m−2. The concentration of JA increased in the treatment of 10 kJ m−2 compared to the treatment of 3 kJ m−2 and the control. UV-C irradiation increased total phenolic and total flavonoid concentrations and DPPH radical scavenging capacity. These results suggest that UV-C at 10 kJ m−2 has a potential to control green mold caused by P. digitatum, maintain cellular structure, stimulate the accumulation of JA, and induce biochemical compounds in satsuma mandarin.

Abstract
Zanthoxylum plants, important aromatic plants, have attracted considerable attention in the food, pharmacological, and industrial fields because of their potential health benefits, and they are easily accessible because of the wild distribution in most parts of China. The chemical components vary with inter and intraspecific variations, ontogenic variations, and climate and soil conditions in compositions and contents. To classify the relationships between different Zanthoxylum species and to determine the key factors that influence geographical variations in the main components of the plant, the fatty acid composition and content of 72 pericarp samples from 12 cultivation regions were measured and evaluated. Four fatty acids, palmitic acid (21.33-125.03 mg/g), oleic acid (10.66-181.37 mg/g), linoleic acid (21.98-305.32 mg/g), and linolenic acid (0.06-218.84 mg/g), were the most common fatty acid components in the Zanthoxylum pericarps. Fatty acid profiling of Zanthoxylum pericarps was significantly affected by Zanthoxylum species and geographical variations. Stearic acid and oleic acid in pericarps were typical fatty acids that distinguished Zanthoxylum species based on the result of DA. Palmitic acid, palmitoleic acid, trans-13-oleic acid, and linoleic acid were important differential indicators in distinguishing given Zanthoxylum pericarps based on the result of OPLS-DA. In different Zanthoxylum species, the geographical influence on fatty acid variations was diverse. This study provides information on how to classify the Zanthoxylum species based on pericarp fatty acid compositions and determines the key fatty acids used to classify the Zanthoxylum species.

Abstract
Chilling injury is especially prominent in postharvest bananas stored at low temperature below 13 °C. To elucidate better the relationship between cell membrane lipids and chilling injury, an untargeted lipidomics approach using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry was conducted. Banana fruit were stored at 6 °C for 0 (control) and 4 days and then sampled for lipid analysis. After 4 days of storage, banana peel exhibited a marked chilling injury symptom. Furthermore, 45 lipid compounds, including glycerophospholipids, saccharolipids, and glycerolipids, were identified with significant changes in peel tissues of bananas stored for 4 days compared with the control fruit. In addition, higher ratio of digalactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG) to monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) and higher levels of phosphatidic acid (PA) and saturated fatty acids but lower levels of phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and unsaturated fatty acids were observed in banana fruit with chilling injury in contrast to the control fruit. Meanwhile, higher activities of phospholipase D (PLD) and lipoxygenase (LOX) were associated with significantly upregulated gene expressions of MaPLD1 and MaLOX2 and higher malondialdehyde (MDA) content in chilling injury-related bananas. In conclusion, our study indicated that membrane lipid degradation resulted from reduced PC and PE, but accumulated PA, while membrane lipid peroxidation resulted from the elevated saturation of fatty acids, resulting in membrane damage which subsequently accelerated the chilling injury occurrence of banana fruit during storage at low temperature.
