Abstract
The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) stands as one of the most frequently employed rapid detection techniques for both chemical and biological contaminants. Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), serving as signal generators, play indispensable roles throughout the entire ELISA process. However, HRP and H2O2 exhibit high sensitivity to elevated temperatures, hindering the broader utilization and transportation of ELISA. Hereby, being inspired by the cascade catalysis of glucose by glucose oxidase (GOx) and HRP as well as the advantageous properties of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), we developed a cascade catalysis-based competitive fluorescent ELISA (CCF-ELISA) for mycotoxin detection in maize using zearalenone (ZEN) as a model. The results revealed the remarkable protective effects of MOFs on enzymatic activities. Based on upon characteristics, the built CCF-ELISA enabled the detection of ZEN with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration of 0.54 ng/mL and allowed a detection range from 0.19 to 1.51 ng/mL. When applied to naturally contaminated maize samples, the outcomes obtained from the CCF-ELISA showed a high level of comparability with high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, demonstrating the promising potential of the developed CCF-ELISA in the rapid detection for food security.

Abstract
Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites generated from toxigenic fungi in the contaminated food and agro-food, which have been regarded as a serious threat to the food safety and human health. Therefore, the control of mycotoxins and toxigenic fungi contamination is of great significance and has attracted the increasing attention of researchers. As we know, nano-semiconductors have many unique properties such as large surface area, structural stability, good biocompatibility, excellent photoelectrical properties, and low cost, which have been developed and applied in many research fields. Recently, nano-semiconductors have also been promisingly applied in mitigating or controlling mycotoxins and toxigenic fungi contaminations in food and agro-food. In this review, the type, occurrence, and toxicity of main mycotoxins in food and agro-food were introduced. Then, a variety of strategies to mitigate the mycotoxin contamination based on nano-semiconductors involving mycotoxins detection, inhibition of toxigenic fungi, and mycotoxins degradation were summarized. Finally, the outlook, opportunities, and challenges have prospected in the future for the mitigation of mycotoxins and toxigenic fungi based on nano-semiconductors.

Abstract
Due to universal contamination and synergistic toxicity of multiple mycotoxins in foodstuff, reliable and high-throughput detection methods for multiple mycotoxins are urgently needed in corn products. In this study, a novel dual-channel immunochromatographic assay (ICA) based on improved up-conversion nanoparticles (IUCNPs) was developed for rapidly detecting aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and zearalenone (ZEN). The synthesized IUCNPs doped by 30% Lu3+ showed a larger size, more regular structure, and brighter fluorescence intensity than conventional UCNPs. The limits of detection (LODs) of single-channel ICA test strips for AFB1 and ZEN detection were 0.01 and 0.1 ng/mL, respectively. After the optimization, the dual-channel ICA of AFB1 and ZEN in 10 min was conducted, resulting in low detection limits of 0.025 and 0.1 ng/mL, respectively. Moreover, the built assay was revealed to be highly specific for six other food-contaminated mycotoxins, and exhibited excellent accuracy, with corresponding R2 of 0.9931 and 0.9982 in calibration curves, respectively. Long-term storage experiments indicated that the dual-channel test strips had superior stability and precision. The LODs of AFB1 and ZEN in spiked maize were 0.025 and 0.25 μg/kg, demonstrating great sensitivity and matrix tolerance. Furthermore, the IUNCP-ICA was validated by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analyses, and a satisfactory consistency was obtained in 15 natural maize samples. Thus, the IUCNPs-ICA proposed in this work realized rapid and sensitive detection of AFB1 and ZEN, providing broad application potential in on-site screening for multiple mycotoxins in agricultural products.

Abstract
Aflatoxins have posed serious threat to food safety and human health. Therefore, it is important to detect aflatoxins in samples rapidly and accurately. In this review, various technologies to detect aflatoxins in food are discussed, including conventional ones such as thin-layer chromatography (TLC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay (GICA), radioimmunoassay (RIA), fluorescence spectroscopy (FS), as well as emerging ones (e.g., biosensors, molecular imprinting technology, surface plasmon resonance). Critical challenges of these technologies include high cost, complex processing procedures and long processing time, low stability, low repeatability, low accuracy, poor portability, and so on. Critical discussion is provided on the trade-off relationship between detection speed and detection accuracy, as well as the application scenario and sustainability of different technologies. Especially, the prospect of combining different technologies is discussed. Future research is necessary to develop more convenient, more accurate, faster, and cost-effective technologies to detect aflatoxins.

Abstract
Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a mycotoxin and is the most carcinogenic of all known chemicals. In view of the AFB1 characteristics of widespread distribution, serious pollution, great harm to humans, and animals and difficult to remove, it is urgent to develop a convenient and sensitive detection method. Moreover, chromatographic test strips (CTSs) are a rapid detection technology that combines labeling technology with chromatography technology. CTSs have been widely used in the fields of environmental monitoring, medical diagnosis, and food safety analysis in recent years. Different from other immune assays, they have the advantages of short measuring time, low cost, high efficiency and no need for professionals to operate. In addition, the introduction of nanomaterials has laid a good foundation for the detection of high sensitivity, high specificity and high efficiency via CTSs. Herein, we tend to comprehensively introduce the applications of chromatographic methods in AFB1 detection and pay attention to the signal detection modes based on nanomaterials in antibody-based immunochromatographic strips (ICSs), such as colorimetric, fluorescent, chemiluminescent, and Raman scattering sensing. Some typical examples are also listed in this review. In the end, we make a summary and put forward prospects for the development of CTSs.

Abstract
Zearalenone (ZEN), also known as an F-2 toxin, is a secondary metabolite in the toxic Fusarium species with estrogen properties. ZEN and its derivatives can cause developmental and reproductive disorders in humans and other mammals. In this study, colloidal Au spheres (AuSPs) and Au nanoflowers (AuNFs) were used as signal labels to detect ZEN in cereals, and the critical factors affecting the sensitivity of the immunochromatographic strip (ICS), namely the volume of antigen, antibody, and probe quantities were optimized and compared in detail. Since the large specific surface area of AuNFs reduces the steric hindrance of proteins, it is more conducive to improving the fixation rate of antibodies and proteins. Compared with the traditional colloidal AuSP immunochromatographic strip (AuSP-ICS), the volume of the antibody used in the AuNF immunochromatographic strip (AuNF-ICS) was 0.6 times that in the AuSPs-ICS. At the same antigen volume, a lower amount of probe can achieve the desired visual detection effect and higher sensitivity. For the AuNF-ICS, the limit of detection (LOD) was as low as 0.08 ng mL-1. ZEN could be detected quickly and accurately from 0.08-10.2 ng mL-1. And the AuNF-ICS had a high degree of specificity and sensitivity to ZEN. In summary, the AuNF-ICS serves as a valuable tool in large-scale on-site detection of ZEN.

Abstract
Mycotoxins present serious threats not only for public health, but also for the economy and environment. The problems become more complex and serious due to co-contamination of multiple hazardous mycotoxins in commodities and environment. To mitigate against this issue, accurate, affordable, and rapid multiplex detection methods are required. This review presents an overview of emerging rapid immuno-based multiplex methods capable of detecting mycotoxins present in agricultural products and feed ingredients published within the past five years. The scientific principles, advantages, disadvantages, and assay performance of these rapid multiplex immunoassays, including lateral flow, fluorescence polarization, chemiluminescence, surface plasmon resonance, surface enhanced Raman scattering, electrochemical sensor, and nanoarray are discussed. From the recent literature landscape, it is predicted that the future trend of the detection methods for multiple mycotoxins will rely on the advance of various sensor technologies, a variety of enhancing and reporting signals based on nanomaterials, rapid and effective sample preparation, and capacity for quantitative analysis.

Abstract
Mycotoxins, which are toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi, are harmful to humans. Mycotoxin-induced contamination has drawn attention worldwide. Consequently, the development of reliable and sensitive detection methods and high-efficiency control strategies for mycotoxins is important to safeguard food industry safety and public health. With the rapid development of nanotechnology, many novel nanomaterials that provide tremendous opportunities for greatly improving the detection and control performance of mycotoxins because of their unique properties have emerged. This review comprehensively summarizes recent trends in the application of nanomaterials for detecting mycotoxins (fluorescence, colorimetric, surface-enhanced Raman scattering, electrochemical, and point-of-care testing) and controlling mycotoxins (inhibition of fungal growth, mycotoxin absorption, and degradation). These detection methods possess the advantages of high sensitivity and selectivity, operational simplicity, and rapidity. With research attention on the control of mycotoxins and the gradual excavation of the properties of nanomaterials, nanomaterials are also employed for the inhibition of fungal growth, mycotoxin absorption, and mycotoxin degradation, and impressive controlling effects are obtained. This review is expected to provide the readers insight into this state-of-the-art area and a reference to design nanomaterials-based schemes for the detection and control of mycotoxins.

Abstract
Dexamethasone (DEX) is widely used because of its anti-inflammatory, anti-endotoxin, anti-shock, and stress-enhancing response activities. It can increase the risk of diabetes and hypertension if it is abused or used improperly. However, there is a lack of sensitive and rapid screening methods for DEX in food. In this study, a time-resolved fluorescent microspheres immunochromatographic assay (TRFM-ICA) integrated with a portable fluorescence reader was developed for the quantitative detection of DEX in milk and pork. The cut-off values of the TRFM-ICA were 0.25 ng/mL and 0.7 µg/kg, respectively. The limits of quantitation (LOQs) were 0.003 ng/mL and 0.062 µg/kg, respectively. The recovery rates were 80.0–106.7%, and 78.6–83.6%, respectively, with the coefficients of variation ranging 6.3–12.5%, and 7.5–10.3%, respectively. A parallel experiment for 20 milk and 10 pork samples with LC-MS/MS was carried out to confirm the performance of the on-site application of the developed TRFM-ICA. The results of the two methods are basically the same; the correlation (R2) was >0.98. The establishment of TRFM-ICA will provide a new sensitive and efficient technical support for the rapid screening of DEX in food.

Abstract
Aflatoxins (AFs) contamination in food and agricultural products poses a significant threat to human health. Sensitive and accurate detection of AFs provides a strong guarantee for ensuring food safety. Conventional chromatographic-based or mass spectrum methods, which rely on bulky instrument and skilled personnel, are not suitable for on-site surveillance. By contrast, visual detections which possess the merits of rapidity and sophisticated instrument-free present an excellent potential for the on-site detection of AFs. This review intends to summarize the latest development of visual methods for AFs detection, including paper-based tests, chromogenic reactions, and luminescent methods. Emerging technologies, like nanotechnology, DNAzymes, and aptamers combined with these visual methods are introduced. The basic principles, features, and application advantages of each type of visual methods are discussed. The biggest challenges and perspectives on their future trends are also addressed.
