Abstract
As an inherent metal ion, copper has been the subject of investigation for developing a novel antitumoral compound that exhibits fewer adverse effects. Copper serves as a cofactor in multiple enzymes, generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), facilitates tumour evolution, metastasis and angiogenesis and has been detected at elevated concentrations in the serum and tissues of various human cancer types. In the given setting, utilising two methodologies in developing novel Copper-based pharmaceuticals for anti-cancer applications is standard practice. These approaches involve either the sequestration of unbound Copper ions or the synthesis of Copper complexes that induce cellular apoptosis. In the past four decades, the latter system has been used, leading to numerous reviews that have examined the anticancer characteristics of a wide range of Copper complexes. These analyses have consistently demonstrated that multiple factors frequently influence the efficacy of these compounds. This review examines the possible anticancer properties of copper and Cu(II) complexes that incorporate Schiff base ligands containing 1,10-phenanthroline. The present study will comprehensively analyse the examined cell lines and mechanistic research associated with each complex.

Abstract
Although it is known that the first case of cancer was recorded in ancient Egypt around 1600 BC, it was not until 1917 during the First World War and the development of mustard gas that chemotherapy against cancer became relevant; however, its properties were not recognised until 1946 to later be used in patients. In this sense, the use of metallopharmaceuticals in cancer therapy was extensively explored until the 1960s with the discovery of cisplatin and its anticancer activity. From that date to the present, the search for more effective, more selective metallodrugs with fewer side effects has been an area of continuous exploration. Efforts have led to considering a wide variety of metals from the periodic table, mainly from the d-block, as well as a wide variety of organic ligands, preferably with proven biological activity. In this sense, various research groups have found an ideal binder in Schiff bases, since their raw materials are easily accessible, their synthesis conditions are friendly and their denticity can be manipulated. Therefore, in this review, we have explored the anticancer and antitumor activity reported in the literature for coordination complexes of d-block metals coordinated with tridentate Schiff bases (O N O and O N N) derived from salicylaldehyde. For this work, we have used the main scientific databases CCDC® and SciFinder®.

Abstract
Two major health crisis of today's world are antimicrobial drug resistance and type II diabetes. To tackle them, there is an immediate requirement for the development of new and safer drugs and the present work is one such quest for novel and efficient drug candidates. We have developed three trace metal coordination compounds tethered with a reduced salen ligand {H2(hpdbal)2-an} (L), namely, a manganese-salan complex, [MnII(H2O)2{(hpdbal)2-an}] (1), a nickel-salan complex, [NiII{(hpdbal)2-an}] (2) and a copper-salan complex, [CuII{(hpdbal)2-an}] (3). The compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, vibrational spectroscopy, electronic spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance and electron-paramagnetic resonance techniques. The compounds were evaluated for antimicrobial activity against seven pathogens (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans) and antidiabetic activity by mimicking diabetic environment on the immortal human liver cancer cells, HepG2. Complexes 1 and 2 were additionally tested for their reactivity and stability in biological media mimic conditions. The nickel(II) salan complex (2) exhibited noteworthy antifungal activity against Candida albicans and the manganese(II) salan complex (1) induced increased glucose uptake by the insulin resistant cells. Both compounds were found to be stable when solution pH conditions were varied from 3 to 9. They exhibited strong affinity of binding towards a carrier protein, bovine serum albumin which was evaluated with the aid of multi-spectroscopic techniques.

Abstract
Currently, most pathogens influencing a number of epidemics outline a notable warning to human health. It has pushed researchers to design new antimicrobial drugs using transition metals that are studied in proceeding fewer years for their antimicrobial properties. Henceforth, in this work, two mononuclear complexes [Imz-H][Fe(pda)2]⋅1⋅3H2O (1) and [Mn(Imz)6]⋅2Cl-⋅2H2O (2) [Imz = imidazole and H2pda = 2,6 pyridine dicarboxylic acid] are isolated and characterized systematically by various spectral and single-crystal XRD studies. The antimicrobial activity of the present hexadentate complexes of Fe(III) and Mn(II) against Gram-positive as well as Gram-negative bacteria is also assessed. Augmented activity against standard isolates of Staphylococcus aureus with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) is observed. Similar activity was also observed toward Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Listeria monocytogenes. 1 and 2 have excellent bactericidal activity, and no resistant mutant for S. aureus was seen. The compound also unveiled antibiofilm activity and was capable to disrupt significantly the pre-formed biofilms and this property was confirmed by XTT assay experiment. The MTT assay data indicate that 1 and 2 can be used as anticancer agents toward the RAW 64.7 (human macrophage/monocyte) cell line. Further, the molecular docking study reveals that the role of imidazole is very important in the biological activity of these complexes. Moreover, our results suggest that 1 and 2 with its effective anti-microbial, anti-biofilm and cytotoxicity activity can be used to treat bacterial and fungal infections and could be appraised clinically for further applications.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Abstract
A small set of palladium Schiff-base complexes were synthesized and entrapped in the supercage of zeolite-Y. All these novel complexes in both states were systematically characterized with the help of different characterization tools like XRD, SEM-EDS, thermal analysis, XPS, IR, electronic spectroscopic and theoretical studies. These systems were thoroughly studied for their catalytic activities towards the Heck coupling reaction between bromobenzene and styrene. The aim was to meticulously compare the performance of the homogeneous catalysts, i.e., neat palladium Schiff-base complexes with that of their heterogeneous encapsulated analogs. The experimental as well as theoretical electronic structure studies suggested significant structural modification of the guest Pd(ii)-Schiff-base complexes after encapsulation in zeolite Y. These complexes manifested modified catalytic activities towards the Heck coupling reaction. The theoretical studies reinforced the correlation between the modified catalytic properties and structural alteration of these complexes on encapsulation. These heterogeneous catalysts essentially demonstrated the benefits of easy separation and reusability as compared to the homogeneous analogues.

Abstract
A new series of p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde derivatives were tested for therapeutic potential by exploring their properties through characterization. The derivatives were synthesized by 1 : 1 condensation reaction of p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde and substituted amines. The synthesized compounds 1–8 were characterized by different characterization techniques including IR, mass, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and mass spectrometry. Furthermore, binding of these Schiff bases to Ct-DNA was examined by absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence quenching, circular dichroic, viscosity measurement, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulation methods. Schiff bases were tested for antimicrobial activity against bacterial species Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus by the disc diffusion method. The pharmacological treatment of Schiff bases showed that 1–8 have promising potential against tested bacterial strains. The molecular docking study of the target compounds was also carried out against B-DNA dodecamer d(CGCGAATTCGCG)2, and it has been found that 1–8 can bind to Ct-DNA via an intercalative mode. DPPH free radical and hydrogen peroxide scavenging assays were employed to assess the antioxidant potential of synthesized Schiff bases.

Abstract
A series of heteroleptic metal(II) complexes of formulation [M(Tm)(diimine)](ClO4) (1-8), [Tm = hydrotris(methimazolyl)borate, diimine = 2,2'-bipyridyl or 1,10-phenanthroline and M = Mn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) or Zn(II)] have been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic methods. The geometric parameters of the complexes were determined using UV-Vis spectroscopy and DFT calculations. The analyses of HOMO and LUMO have been used to explain the charge transfer within the molecule. Antimicrobial activity of the synthesized heteroleptic complexes were evaluated against two Gram (-ve) (Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae) and two Gram (+ve) (Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus) bacterial, and three fungal (Candida albicans, Candida glabrata and Candida krusei) strains with respect to the standard drugs erythromycin and amphotericin-B. The copper(II) complex 6 showed better scavenging activity against DPPH when compared to other complexes. The cytotoxic activity of copper(II) complexes 5 and 6 against MCF-7 cell line was assessed by MTT assay, which showed exponential responses toward increasing concentration of complexes. In the molecular docking studies, the complexes showed π-π, σ-π, hydrogen bonding, van der Waals and electrostatic interactions with FGFR kinase receptor.

Abstract
Mononuclear cuprous complexes 1 and 2, [{CH3E(o-C6H4)CH=NCH2}2Cu]ClO4; E=S/Se, have been synthesized by the reaction of bis(methyl)(thia/selena) salen ligands and [Cu(CH3CN)4]ClO4. Both the products were characterized by elemental analysis, ESI-MS, FT-IR, 1H/13C/77Se NMR, and cyclic voltammetry. The complexes possess tetrahedral geometry around metal center with the N2S2/N2Se2 coordination core. Cyclic voltammograms of complexes 1 and 2 displayed reversible anodic waves at E1/2=+0.08V and +0.10V, respectively, corresponding to the Cu(I)/Cu(II) redox couple. DNA binding studies of both the complexes were performed applying absorbance, fluorescence and molecular docking techniques. Competitive binding experiment of complexes with ct-DNA against ethidium bromide is performed to predict the mode of binding. The results indicate the groove binding mode of complexes 1 and 2 to DNA. The binding constants revealed the strong binding affinity of complexes towards ct-DNA.

Abstract
New series of bio-essential metal based complexes linked by Schiff base ligand (L) and 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) have been synthesized and characterized by diverse spectral techniques such as elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductivity measurements, FT-IR, UV-Vis., (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, EPR and Mass. The spectral data suggest that the metal complexes espouse octahedral geometry around the metal ions. Interactions of the complexes with CT DNA have been explored by electronic absorption, ethidium bromide displacement assay, viscosity measurements, cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry in order to evaluate the possible DNA-binding mode and to calculate the corresponding DNA-binding constants. The DNA interaction studies propose that the intercalative mode of interaction and the complexes exhibit oxidative cleavage of pUC19 DNA in the presence of hydrogen peroxide as activator. The synthesized Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes have been screened for anti-microbial activity by micro dilution method against two Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis), two Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi) and three fungi strains (Fusarium solani, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans) revealing that the complexes are good anti-pathogenic agents than the ligand. Moreover, molecular docking analysis has been performed to confirm the nature of binding of the complexes with DNA.
