Abstract
Breastfeeding (BF) is associated with improved maternal and infant health outcomes. However, underserved populations have limited access to lactation support. Our urban pediatric primary care practice partnered with WIC to integrate a BF peer counselor (BFPC) into newborn visits. To study the association of BF duration with (1) BFPC integration, (2) initial infant feeding methods (IFM). This is a retrospective cohort study of patients receiving BFPC support matched with those that did not based on race, ethnicity, and insurance. IFM were compared using chi-square. BF duration was compared using a t-test. These variables were compared across IFM using ANOVA. A cohort of 111 infant-mother dyads received BFPC support and 222 dyads did not (7/09/2019-4/25/2022). There was no significant difference in feeding methods between these groups. Compared to infants whose IFM was exclusive BF, fewer infants who initially used formula or both formula and breastmilk were exclusively BF at 2-month (55.8%, 8.2%, 10.9%), 4-month (54.8%, 6.3%, 14.5%), and 6-month visits (54.8%, 4.3%, 14.1%) (p < 0.001). There was a significant association between IFM and duration of any and exclusive BF (Formula only: 1 week; BF and Formula: 3 weeks; Exclusive BF: 14 weeks; p < 0.001). A significant association was found between IFM and duration of BF. Early formula introduction was negatively associated with BF duration. The prenatal period may therefore be optimal for initiating BF support. Although there was no association between BFPC and BF duration, additional benefits of this intervention should be explored.

Abstract
This study examined the early breastfeeding experiences of mothers with an FMR1 premutation (FXPM) and their infants with and without fragile X syndrome (FXS) to identify early feeding needs and potential opportunities for intervention. Data collection occurred through a retrospective national survey that captured data on breastfeeding experiences and co-occurring conditions of mother and child. Participants were 246 mothers with an FXPM. Of their 384 infants, 287 had FXS and 97 were unaffected (i.e., they did not have FXS or an FXPM). Unaffected infants had a longer breastfeeding duration relative to infants with FXS, and infants of mothers who had postpartum depression (PPD). Additionally, infants who were reported to display aggressiveness towards others later in childhood had a shorter breastfeeding duration than those who did not go on to display aggression. Approximately 42% percent of mothers reported difficulties with breastfeeding infants with FXS compared to only 17% of unaffected infants. The most common reason for breastfeeding cessation for mothers of children with FXS was perceived difficulties in breastfeeding for the child (37%), whereas the most common reason for mothers of unaffected infants was a personal choice to stop (37%). This study provides preliminary evidence that infants with FXS show early phenotypes that make breastfeeding more difficult. Future research should investigate whether interventions for infants with FXS could improve breastfeeding outcomes.

Abstract
CONTEXT Combining or supplementing breastfeeding with formula feeding, also called mixed milk feeding (MMF), is a common infant feeding practice. However, there is no well-established MMF evidence-base for informing and guiding parents. A better understanding of the reasons why mothers practice MMF may facilitate identification of efficient strategies for supporting exclusive breastfeeding, and/or opportunities to prolong breastfeeding, at least partially. OBJECTIVE An updated systematic literature review was undertaken with the primary aim of gaining a deeper understanding of the reasons why mothers choose MMF. DATA SOURCES Six databases were searched for relevant articles published in English from January 2012 to January 2022. DATA EXTRACTION Two reviewers independently performed the screenings and data extraction, and any differences were resolved by a third reviewer. Data from 138 articles were included, 90 of which contained data on MMF reasons/drivers, and 60 contained data on infant age and/or maternal demographic factors associated with MMF. DATA ANALYSIS A total of 13 different unique MMF drivers/reasons were identified and categorized according to whether the drivers/reasons related to perceived choice, necessity, or pressure. Risk of bias was evaluated using the Quality Assessment Tool of Diverse Studies and the JBI Systematic Reviews tool. Several different terms were used to describe and classify MMF across the studies. The most commonly reported reasons for MMF were related to a perception of necessity (39% of drivers, eg, concerns about infant's hunger/perceived breast milk insufficiency or breastfeeding difficulties), followed by drivers associated with perceived choice (34%; eg, having more flexibility) and perceived pressure (25%; eg, returning to work or healthcare professionals' advice). This was particularly true for infants aged 3 months or younger. CONCLUSION The key global drivers for MMF and their distribution across infant age and regions were identified and described, providing opportunities for the provision of optimal breastfeeding support. A unified definition of MMF is needed in order to enable more comparable and standardized research. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION PROSPERO registration no. CRD42022304253.

Abstract
AIM To synthesize the literature on breastfeeding outcomes associated with exposure to internationally recognized best practices, such as the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, for patients in the United States during the postpartum period, contextualized within the Missed Care Model. DESIGN The authors employed Whittemore and Knafl's integrative review framework and the 2020 PRISMA guidelines for data extraction, synthesis, reporting and assessment. METHODS Five electronic databases were searched for articles published between 2007 and 2023. Eligible articles reported on exposure to breastfeeding best practices and outcomes or the experiences, views, perceptions and attitudes of parents, nurses or lactation consultants regarding hospital breastfeeding support. Extracted data were compared to identify in-hospital exposure to breastfeeding best practices and breastfeeding outcomes, and differences in exposure and outcomes based on patient and provider characteristics. RESULTS Twenty-one quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods articles met inclusion criteria. A higher reported adherence to best practices was associated with greater odds of breastfeeding; some practices demonstrated greater effects overall or for specific groups. Higher exposures to best practices and higher breastfeeding rates were found for non-Hispanic white patients, and those with more education, private insurance and who live in urban areas. Disparities in support and outcomes were related to patients' race/ethnicity, language, weight and age. Qualitative findings reflected missed care concepts, such as internal processes related to habits and group norms, relevant to breastfeeding support. CONCLUSION Review findings also include an adapted Missed Care Model specific to breastfeeding support, which can inform future research related to providers' internal processes that may influence breastfeeding or equitable breastfeeding care. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE Missed care can be influenced by a variety of factors, including providers' internal values and beliefs. Study findings suggest the existence of inequities in breastfeeding care and underscore the need to address and eliminate breastfeeding disparities. IMPACT This study addressed how patient exposure to best practices in breastfeeding support relates to breastfeeding outcomes and whether exposure and outcomes differ by patient or provider characteristics, connecting this to the Missed Care in Breastfeeding Support Model. The main findings were that higher reported exposure to best practices in breastfeeding support related to improved breastfeeding outcomes; inequities exist in exposure to best practices; and patients and providers identify the importance of providers' internal processes in the delivery of breastfeeding support, which aligns with the Missed Care in Breastfeeding Support Model. Study findings will have the potential to impact how nurses, lactation consultants and other providers who deliver breastfeeding support in the postpartum hospital setting. Abstract
Background Nutrition in the first 1000 days of life, from conception to age 2 years, plays a critical role in shaping offspring's physical and mental development, yet many families from underserved backgrounds suffer from nutrition inequity during this important stage of development. The objective of this study is to assess nutrition services and resources provided to families during the first 1000 days across diverse settings in California. Methods A semistructured survey was disseminated to healthcare and educational providers who offer services to pregnant and/or postpartum women and children up to age 2 years. Perspectives about five domains of early-life nutrition services and resources were assessed: (1) accessibility, (2) mode of content delivery, (3) content of messages, (4) breastfeeding support, and (5) professional development on early-life nutrition. Mixed methodology was used to conduct descriptive and thematic analyses for closed and open-ended survey questions, respectively. Results Survey respondents (n = 148) worked in healthcare (37%), governmental (20%), community (20%), and childcare settings (23%). Over 60% primarily served low-income families. Less than 9% reported that their organizations provide prenatal nutrition messaging about critical micronutrients required to support foetal neurodevelopment, highlighting an opportunity for professional development training in nutrition. Need for equitable access to nutrition education and resources by addressing Language, Income, Food resources, Time and Transportation (LIFTT) was a cross-cutting theme that emerged. Conclusion Providers perceive a need to enhance LIFTT accessibility and improve delivery of early-life nutrition-related services for families in the first 1000 days by providing topic-specific education and culturally responsive resources with consistent, evidence-based messages.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION An unprecedented shortage of infant formula occurred in the United States (U.S.) in 2022 and posed widespread challenges to infant feeding nationwide. The purpose of this study is to investigate mothers' experiences during the 2022 infant formula shortage and its perceived impacts on infants' diet and health. METHODS Mothers (n = 45) of infants under 8 months old from Washington D.C. were invited to participate in a virtual study meeting during the summer of 2022. Mothers completed surveys regarding their demographics, infants' anthropometrics, infant feeding practices, information they have received about infant feeding, and knowledge about infant feeding practices. They then participated in a qualitative interview about their experiences during the infant formula shortage. RESULTS Overarching themes were: the shortage (1) had adverse impacts on mothers' mental and emotional health; (2) had significant financial and intangible costs; (3) led to changes in infant feeding practices; (4) social and family networks were helpful in navigating the shortage; and (5) mothers felt fortunate to have resources to breastfeed and/or obtain formula. DISCUSSION The infant formula shortage adversely impacted mothers' mental and emotional health, and was costly, in terms of financial and intangible costs. Findings demonstrate the need to develop clinical and policy approaches to support mothers in feeding their infants and provide education about safe infant feeding practices.

Abstract
In May of 2022, millions of U.S. parents encountered uncertainty in safely feeding their infants due to the infant formula shortage. METHODS An anonymous, electronic, cross-sectional, retrospective survey was used. RESULTS U.S. parents (n = 178) whose infants were ~10 weeks old during the shortage completed the survey. Of parents, 81% switched formulas during the shortage, 87% switched because they could not find the formula they typically used, 34% switched 3-5 times, 29% of parents visited ≥4 stores/24 h and 26% of parents traveled >20 miles/24 h to purchase formula. Use of infant formula increased (p < 0.01); in infants requiring specialty formula, use of intact cow's milk formula increased (p < 0.05) and use of premature infant formulas decreased (p < 0.05). Infants relying on specialty formulas experienced at least one undesirable outcome compared with non-specialty users. Parents used social media, relatives/friends and healthcare providers for support during the shortage, but their helpfulness scores were suboptimal. Parents reported the need for greater infant formula availability, free prenatal lactation education and postpartum lactation support. CONCLUSIONS Government, regulatory and healthcare policy oversight are needed to protect the infant feeding system, including more commercially available products, access to banked donor milk and lactation support.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To synthesize evidence from qualitative studies on the experiences of women from around the world who exclusively breastfed their full-term infants. DATA SOURCES CINAHL Plus, PubMed, APA PsycInfo, Scopus, and ProQuest Dissertation & Theses Global. STUDY SELECTION We selected reports of qualitative studies that were conducted in high-, middle-, and low-income countries; published between January 2001 and February 2022 in English; and focused on the experiences of women who exclusively breastfed their full-term infants. DATA EXTRACTION We extracted the following data from included studies: methodological characteristics (i.e., country of origin, authors' disciplines, research design, sample size, sampling, data collection, and data analysis method), participants' demographics (i.e., age, parity, marital status, education, and exclusive breastfeeding duration) and direct participant quotes, and key concepts and themes about women's experiences of exclusive breastfeeding. We managed and stored extracted data using a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. DATA SYNTHESIS We synthesized reciprocal translations using Noblit and Hare's approach to meta-ethnography. Five overarching themes emerged from the meta-synthesis: Favorable Conditions, Not a Smooth Journey,Support, Determination and Perseverance, and Reflections on Benefits. CONCLUSION In the included studies, participants experienced challenges with exclusive breastfeeding; however, they also recounted benefits. We recommend 6-month maternity leave and support from family and health care professionals to improve rates of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In-hospital exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) is associated with longer breastfeeding durations, yet only 64% of US newborns are EBF for 7 days. The Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding (Ten Steps) are a set of evidenced-based maternity practices shown to improve breastfeeding outcomes; these were updated in 2018. METHODS Using hospital-level data from the 2018 Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care Survey (n = 2045 hospitals), we examined the prevalence of implementation of Ten Steps indicators (each step and total number of steps implemented). Using linear regression, we also examined the association between the steps and EBF prevalence adjusted for hospital characteristics and all other steps. Discharge support was not included in the models since it primarily occurs after hospital discharge. RESULTS The most frequently implemented step was the provision of prenatal breastfeeding education (95.6%). Steps with low implementation included rooming-in (18.9%), facility policies supportive of breastfeeding (23.4%), and limited formula supplementation (28.2%). After adjusting for hospital characteristics and all other steps, limited formula supplementation (difference = 14.4: 95% confidence interval [CI]: 12.6, 16.1), prenatal breastfeeding education (difference = 7.0; 95% CI: 3.3, 10.8), responsive feeding (difference = 6.3; 95% CI: 3.7, 9.0), care right after birth (skin-to-skin; difference = 5.8; 95% CI: 4.2, 7.4), and rooming-in (difference = 2.4; 95% CI: 0.4, 4.6) were associated with higher in-hospital EBF prevalence. We found a dose-response relationship between the number of steps implemented and in-hospital EBF prevalence. CONCLUSION Increased implementation of the updated Ten Steps may improve EBF and infant and maternal health outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Breastfeeding imparts numerous health and social benefits for families. Barriers deter some individuals from breastfeeding. Rates are lower among certain populations, including participants of the federally funded Women, Infants, and Children's Program (WIC). Women, Infants, and Children's Program provides low-income pregnant and postpartum women and children under 5 with nutrition education, supplemental foods, breastfeeding education and support, and resource linkages. Investigation of WIC participants' hospital experiences and breastfeeding decisions is limited. We explore qualitative themes associated with breastfeeding-related hospital maternity care practices experienced by WIC participants. METHODS Thirty pregnant individuals intending to breastfeed were recruited at WIC clinics to complete in-depth interviews at 2 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months of postpartum. Using the Thematic Framework methodology, we analyzed data from the two-week interviews of 29 participants with respect to hospital breastfeeding experiences. RESULTS Fourteen participants were exclusively breastfeeding at discharge (EBFD). Fifteen were partially breastfeeding at discharge (PBFD). Differences between groups were found in hospital breastfeeding experiences, particularly in staff support. All participants EBFD reported positive breastfeeding-related staff experiences. Most participants PBFD reported limited and ineffective staff interaction, leading to formula introduction. CONCLUSIONS Individuals EBFD and those PBFD reported about the same rate of hospital breastfeeding difficulties, yet half introduced formula within the first few days postpartum. Results reiterate the importance of hospital staff support to breastfeeding exclusivity at 2-3 days postpartum. The challenges that these individuals faced may have been resolved through available, responsive, and effective intervention. Data-driven breastfeeding education programs for hospital health professionals are critical to affect patient breastfeeding outcomes.

Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study is to examine in-hospital exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) and its association with sociodemographic factors, medical factors, breastfeeding intentions, and health care system breastfeeding support. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study using medical records from 2015 to 2019 of healthy term infants without breastfeeding contraindications at a public teaching hospital serving a racially and ethnically diverse patient population. Using multivariable regression analysis, we examined the associations between in-hospital EBF and sociodemographic factors, medical factors, breastfeeding intentions, and health care system breastfeeding support (in-hospital breastfeeding education and lactation support). Results: The prevalence of in-hospital EBF was 29.0%. The statistically significant findings from our fully adjusted regression analysis include that there was a higher prevalence of in-hospital EBF among adult mothers (prevalence ratio [PR]: range 1.78-1.96), married mothers (PR: 1.35, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.23-1.44), and mothers who were White (PR: 1.41, 95% CI: 1.20-1.66, compared with Black). Factors associated with a lower prevalence of in-hospital EBF were maternal diabetes (PR: 0.82, 95% CI: 0.70-0.95), pre-eclampsia/eclampsia (PR: 0.82, 95% CI: 0.71-0.95), cesarean delivery (PR: 0.84, 95% CI: 0.77-0.92), neonatal hypoglycemia (PR: 0.46, 95% CI: 0.36-0.59), and intention in the prenatal period to formula feed only (PR: 0.15, 95% CI: 0.10-0.22). In-hospital lactation support was associated with higher prevalence of in-hospital EBF (PR: 1.24, 95% CI: 1.16-1.33). Conclusions: Prioritizing lactation support for Black mothers, adolescent mothers, those intending in the prenatal period to formula feed only, and mother-infant dyads with certain medical factors could improve in-hospital EBF.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In May of 2022, parents living in the United States experienced a dramatic infant formula shortage caused by supply chain issues and the recall of several infant formula products over contamination concerns. METHODS An anonymous, electronic, cross-sectional survey was designed to understand infant feeding practices, parental experience and perceived support during the crisis. RESULTS Ninety-nine parents that lived in the U.S. and fulfilled study criteria completed the survey. 66% of respondents were female, and 75% of respondents were recipients of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infant Children (WIC). Parental mean age was 30.0 years, and the mean infant age was 26.8 weeks. The number of individuals that used at least one unsafe infant feeding practice increased from 8% before the infant formula shortage to 48.5% during the shortage (p < 0.001). 79% of parents fed their infants U.S. infant formula brands and 39% of parents fed their infants imported infant formula brands before the shortage which were significantly reduced during the shortage to 27% (p < 0.005) and 11% (p < 0.005), respectively. The percentage of parents that reported infant feeding practices before and during the infant formula shortage significantly increased from 2 to 28% for banked donor milk use (p < 0.005); 5-26% for use of human milk from informal sharing (p < 0.005); and 2-29% for use of watered-down infant formula (p < 0.005). The resources that parents reported as most helpful in navigating the crisis differed by parental sex and WIC recipient status and included other parents, friends, and family; lactation consultants; healthcare providers; and WIC. CONCLUSIONS Our study found that feeding practices in response to the infant formula shortage may pose health risks to infants including nutrition and food insecurity. These data suggest the need for policy changes within regulatory and the healthcare system to provide families with clinical prenatal and postnatal lactation support, access to pasteurized banked donor milk, and access to more commercially available products.

Abstract
Nearly half of newborns in the United States are enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Promoting breastfeeding is a programmatic priority, although formula vouchers are provided for those who do not exclusively breastfeed. Previous literature suggests that participant perception of WIC's breastfeeding recommendations is a significant factor predicting breastfeeding initiation, duration, and exclusivity outcomes. However, little is known about how participants' perceptions of WIC's breastfeeding recommendations are formed. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a qualitative pilot study in Nevada, interviewing 10 postpartum WIC mothers and 12 WIC staff who had interacted with participants regarding infant feeding. Results showed participants and staff reported various perceptions of what WIC recommends, the factors that contribute to these perceptions, and how these perceptions affect breastfeeding practices. Respondents also described that WIC has a negative legacy as the "free formula program," and that environmental factors, such as the recent formula recall, have had an impact on participants' infant feeding practices. More effective public campaigns and programmatic strategies are needed to target participants' prenatal self-efficacy and to communicate the availability of skilled lactation support in the early postpartum period to improve participants' perceptions of WIC's position on breastfeeding.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe lactation outcomes among of a cohort of mother-infant dyads in which the women had an individualized prenatal nutrition consultation intervention. DESIGN Descriptive cohort study. SETTING A free-standing children's hospital with a center for fetal diagnosis and treatment and a specialized maternity unit. PARTICIPANTS A total of 160 women who had prenatal nutrition consultations in 2014 to 2017 and gave birth to infants with known congenital anomalies and required intensive care after birth. METHODS We surveyed women regarding their lactation outcomes after the Breastfeeding Report Card metrics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and obtained permission to abstract demographic and clinical information from the setting's electronic health record. We analyzed data with standard descriptive statistics. RESULTS Among the cohort, 86.9% (n = 139) of participants intended to provide human milk or combination feeding in the prenatal period. A total of 128 (92.1%) infants were first exposed to human milk enterally. At the time of discharge, 92.1% (n = 128) of the infants received human milk. The breastfeeding outcomes of the cohort significantly surpassed national data: initiation (98.1% vs. 84.1% national), breastfeeding at 3 months (89.4%), exclusive breastfeeding at 3 months (60% vs. 46.9% national), breastfeeding at 6 months (76.9% vs. 58.3% national), exclusive breastfeeding at 6 months (45% vs. 25.6% national), breastfeeding at 12 months (50.6% vs. 35.3% national), and breastfeeding beyond 12 months (34.4%). CONCLUSIONS Lactation outcomes among women who had prenatal nutrition consultations far surpassed national data, and this intervention has implications for family-centered prenatal care, informed decision making, and improved breastfeeding outcomes in the hospital setting and postdischarge.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Because of its many benefits, exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months is a common public health goal. However, only 44% of infants aged 0-6 months are exclusively breastfed worldwide and, in the United States, only 26% of infants are exclusively breastfed for 6 months. The restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic may have reduced these rates even further. RESEARCH AIM To examine the differences in breastfeeding exclusivity and satisfaction before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS A cross-sectional, two-group survey design was used. Parents (N = 110) of infants born April 1 to December 31, 2019 (pre-pandemic; n = 69), or April 1 to December 31, 2020 (during the pandemic; n = 41), who received lactation support services from an urban academic breastfeeding clinic were surveyed. RESULTS Respondents who gave birth in 2020 (pandemic year) were no less likely to exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months of their infant's life compared to respondents who gave birth in 2019 (pre-pandemic year). After multivariable logistic regression, the odds of high breastfeeding satisfaction were 73% lower in respondents with infants born in 2020 than in respondents with infants born in 2019 (OR = 0.27, 95% CI [0.08, 0.89]). The strongest contributor to high breastfeeding satisfaction was a prenatal breastfeeding visit with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. CONCLUSIONS Future research is needed to identify the specific pandemic-related factors that led to the difference in breastfeeding satisfaction between the two groups and to confirm the impact of prenatal International Board Certified Lactation Consultant visits on breastfeeding satisfaction.

Abstract
Introduction: Breastfeeding biases, both implicit and explicit, can impact perceived norms of breastfeeding appropriateness in a variety of contexts and influence breastfeeding behaviors. The purpose of this research was to uncover breastfeeding biases, norms, patterns, and perceptions that potentially affect the decision to initiate or sustain breastfeeding and investigate how a diverse group of women perceive images of racially/ethnically similar and different women breastfeeding. Materials and Methods: Using a panel of nationally representative respondents (oversampling key racial/ethnic subpopulations), an online mixed-methods survey was completed by a sample of women who were primary caregivers of children under 3 in November 2020. The survey included diverse images of individuals breastfeeding in various settings and respondents were asked to generate word associations and indicate perceived appropriateness and ease of breastfeeding for each image in direct, timed comparisons. Results: Respondents (N = 144) racial/ethnic identity influenced perceptions of breastfeeding ease and norms surrounding breastfeeding in public settings or in front of others. Furthermore, respondents perceived breastfeeding to be more or less appropriate based on racial identity, in particular, respondents of color seeing breastfeeding as less appropriate among racially and ethnically similar others. Conclusions: While respondents readily acknowledged the health benefits of breastfeeding and were generally supportive of images of others breastfeeding, biases about breastfeeding in public or in front of others and by race/ethnicity were apparent. Community, policy, and societal interventions are necessary to dismantle breastfeeding biases that may inequitably impact mothers' and infants' health.

Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study was to examine postpartum, inpatient mother-lactation educator (LE) breastfeeding education, resulting perceptions, and patient-reported worries and outcomes. In the breastfeeding literature, there is inadequate insight into the mother-LE relationship, and specifically, the extent to which contextual factors are elicited and information is tailored accordingly. In this study, we were specifically interested in maternal contextual factors. Materials and Methods: Using a mixed methods approach, we (1) captured 20 postpartum, inpatient mother-LE breastfeeding education sessions and analyzed them for the presence of maternal contextual factors, (2) administered separate perception questions to mothers and LEs, and (3) conducted 13 follow-up interviews with mothers after being discharged from the hospital. Results: Inpatient breastfeeding education is delivered in dynamic and busy clinical settings, characterized by potential distractions such as delivery of medical care. Maternal contextual factors are infrequently elicited during the education. Although both LEs and mothers rate the sessions positively, potential gaps remain as highlighted by the analyses of semistructured interviews with mothers. Conclusion: Human factors perspective, theories, and methods are relevant to the characterization of facilitators and barriers of current breastfeeding education, as well as to the development of interventions to support the delivery of human-centered, effective, and timely breastfeeding education.
