Abstract
Pollen is a promising material for water treatment owing to its renewable nature, abundant sources, and vast reserves. The natural polymer sporopollenin, found within pollen exine, possesses a distinctive layered porous structure, mechanical strength, and stable chemical properties, which can be utilized to prepare sporopollenin exine capsules (SECs). Leveraging these attributes, pollen or SECs can be used to develop water pollution remediation materials. In this review, the structure of pollen is first introduced, followed by the categorization of various methods for extracting SECs. Then, the functional expansion of pollen adsorbents, with an emphasis on their recyclability, reusability, and visual sensing capabilities, as opposed to mere functional group modification, is discussed. Furthermore, the progress made in utilizing pollen as a biological template for synthesizing catalysts is summarized. Intriguingly, pollen can also be engineered into self-propelled micromotors, enhancing its potential application in adsorption and catalysis. Finally, the challenges associated with the application of pollen in water pollution treatment are discussed. These challenges include the selection of environmentally friendly, non-toxic reagents in synthesizing pollen water remediation products and the large-scale application after synthesis. Moreover, the multifunctional synthesis and application of different water remediation products are prospected.

Abstract
Porous materials applied in environmental remediation have received researchers' extensive attention recently, but the related green and convenient preparation method is rarely reported. Here, we recommended a green and convenient strategy for the fabrication of porous material via aqueous foam templates, which was synergistically stabilized by Codonopsis pilosula (CP) and clay minerals of attapulgite (APT). The characterization results revealed that the APT was modified by organic molecules leached from CP and anchored at the air-water interface, which improved the foam stability significantly. The novel porous material of polyacrylamide/Codonopsis pilosula/attapulgite (PAM/CP/APT) templated from the aqueous foam via a polymerization reaction had excellent adsorption capacity for the cationic dyes methyl violet (MV) and methylene blue (MB), and the adsorption capacity can reach 755.85 mg/g and 557.64 mg/g, respectively. More importantly, the adsorption capacity of spent adsorbent material was still over 200 mg/g after being recycled five times through a simple carbonization process, and then it was added to the plant pot, the total biomass was increased by about 86.42%. This study provided a green and sustainable pathway for the preparation, application and subsequent processing of porous materials.

Abstract
Liquid foams are gas-liquid dispersions with flexible structures that provide high gas-liquid interfaces. This property nominates liquid foams as excellent gas-liquid contactors, systems that are widely used in the chemical and biochemical industries. However, challenges such as a lack of comprehensive understanding and foam instability have historically hindered their widespread industrial use in most applications. It was not until the recent development of nanofluidics, nanotechnology, surface science, and other related fields that the understanding, analysis, and control of foam phenomena improved. This led to the development of innovative stabilization techniques and foam-based unit operations in chemical and biochemical processes, each of which requires in-depth and exclusive reviews to fully comprehend their potential and limitations and to identify areas for further improvement and innovation. This paper reviews the foams, the common phenomena in them, the characteristics that make them suitable for chemical/biochemical engineering, reports on their current applications and recent developments in this field.

Abstract
In this study, a novel adsorbent with a sufficient porous structure was fabricated using a green and highly stable water-based foam template. This template was stabilized with agricultural waste quinoa husk (QH) and applied to remove dye pollutants in wastewater. The porous adsorbent exhibited a high adsorption capacity of 740.95 mg/g for methylene blue and 1022.1 mg/g for methyl violet. The adsorption process was well described by the Langmuir-Freundlich model and the pseudo second-order kinetic model. A sustainable concept for handling the spent adsorbent was also proposed, involving its conversion into biochar and safe return to the soil. An additional benefit was observed, as the biochar effectively adjusted the physicochemical properties of the soil and improved crop growth with the addition of 1 wt%. The potential application of porous adsorbent in wastewater treatment and the reference of sustainable strategy for disposing of other adsorbents are both noteworthy.

Abstract
The water-based foam stabilized by the natural surfactant applied in the fabrication of porous materials has attracted extensive attention, as the advantages of cleanness, convenience and low cost. Particularly, the development of a green preparation method has became the main research focus and frontier. In this work, a green liquid foam with high stability was prepared by synergistic stabilization of natural plant astragalus membranaceus (AMS) and attapulgite (APT), and then a novel porous material with sufficient hierarchical pore structure was templated from the foam via a simple free radical polymerization of acrylamide (AM). The characterization results revealed that the amphiphilic molecules from AMS adsorbed onto the water-air interface and formed a protective shell to prevent the bubble breakup, and APT gathered in the plateau border and formed a three-dimensional network structure, which greatly slowed down the drainage rate. The porous material polyacrylamide/astragalus membranaceus/attapulgite (PAM/AMS/APT) showed the excellent adsorption performance for cationic dyes of Methyl Violet (MV) and Methylene Blue (MB) in water, and the maximum adsorption capacity could reach to 709.13 and 703.30 mg/g, respectively. Furthermore, the polymer material enabled to regenerate and cycle via a convenient calcination process, and the adsorption capacity was still higher than 200 mg/g after five cycles. In short, this research provided a new idea for the green preparation of porous materials and the treatment of water pollution.

Abstract
Hydrogels exhibit excellent moldability, biodegradability, biocompatibility, and extracellular matrix-like properties, which make them widely used in biomedical fields. Because of their unique three-dimensional crosslinked hydrophilic networks, hydrogels can encapsulate various materials, such as small molecules, polymers, and particles; this has become a hot research topic in the antibacterial field. The surface modification of biomaterials by using antibacterial hydrogels as coatings contributes to the biomaterial activity and offers wide prospects for development. A variety of surface chemical strategies have been developed to bind hydrogels to the substrate surface stably. We first introduce the preparation method for antibacterial coatings in this review, which includes surface-initiated graft crosslinking polymerization, anchoring the hydrogel coating to the substrate surface, and the LbL self-assembly technique to coat crosslinked hydrogels. Then, we summarize the applications of hydrogel coating in the biomedical antibacterial field. Hydrogel itself has certain antibacterial properties, but the antibacterial effect is not sufficient. In recent research, in order to optimize its antibacterial performance, the following three antibacterial strategies are mainly adopted: bacterial repellent and inhibition, contact surface killing of bacteria, and release of antibacterial agents. We systematically introduce the antibacterial mechanism of each strategy. The review aims to provide reference for the further development and application of hydrogel coatings.

Abstract
HYPOTHESIS Aqueous foams are expected to constitute exquisite particularly suitable reactive medium for the oxidation of metals, since the reactant H+ can be supplied through the continuous liquid phase, while the reactant O2 can be transported through the gas bubbles. EXPERIMENTS To test this hypothesis, we investigated the oxidation of a metallic copper cylinder immersed in an aqueous foam. To study the relation between the transport of these reactants and the kinetics of the chemical reaction we use a forced drainage setup which enables us to control both the advection velocity of the H+ ions through the foam and the foam liquid fraction. FINDINGS We find experimentally that the mass of dissolved copper presents a maximum with the drainage flow rate, and thus with the foam liquid fraction. Modeling analytically the transfer of H+ and O2 through the foams enables us to show that this non-monotonic behavior results from a competition between the advective flux of H+ ions and the unsteady diffusion of O2 through the thin liquid films which tends to be slower as the area of the thin liquid films decreases with the drainage flow rate and the liquid fraction. This study shows for the first time how to optimize the foam structure and drainage flow in reactive foams in which the reactants are present both in the liquid and gaseous phases.

Abstract
In this study, a novel electrifying mode (divided power-on and power-off stage) was applied in the system of BDD activate sulfate to degrade tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH). The BDD electrode could activate sulfate and H2O to generate sulfate radicals (SO4•-) and hydroxyl radicals (•OH) to remove TCH, and SO4•- could dimerize to form S2O82-. Then, the S2O82- was activated by heat and quinones to generate SO4•- for the continuous degradation of TCH during the power-off stage. In addition, the intermittent time has a significant effect on the degradation of TCH. Factors, affecting the accumulation of S2O82-, were analyzed using a full factorial design, and the accumulation of S2O82- could reach 16.2 mM in 120 min. The results of electron spin resonance and radical quenching test showed that SO4•-, •OH, direct electron transfer (DET), and non-radical in the system could effectively degrade TCH, and SO4•- was dominated. The intermediate products of TCH were analyzed by HPLC-QTOF-MS/MS, and the TCH mainly underwent hydroxylation, demethylation and ring opening reactions to form small molecules, and finally mineralized. The results of the feasibility analysis revealed that some intermediates have high toxicity, but the system could improve the toxicity. The results of energy consumption indicated that the intermittent electrifying mode could make full use of the persulfate generated during the power-on stage and reduce about 30% energy consumption. In conclusion, this work demonstrated that it was economically feasible to degrade TCH in wastewater by activating sulfate with BDD electrodes with an intermittent electrifying mode.

Abstract
A novel Bi4Ti3O12/g-C3N4/BiOBr(BTO/CN/BOB) composite was synthesized by a solvothermal-mechanical mixed thermal method. The composition, structure, and micromorphology of the samples were analyzed. The BTO/CN/BOB composite photocatalyst shows better photocatalytic performance for tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) degradation compared to Bi4Ti3O12 and binary composite photocatalysts. The highest degradation rate of TC can reach 89.84% using the BTO/CN/BOB photocatalyst under the optimal conditions, and BTO/CN/BOB still exhibits good photocatalytic properties after recycling. Moreover, it also shows good photodegradation activity for different kinds of antibiotics, implying its wide application prospect. The photocatalytic performance and reuse stability of BTO/CN/BOB were significantly improved, which may be because of the enhanced spectral absorption range and efficient electron transfer capability by the synergistic effect and interaction among Bi4Ti3O12, BiOBr, and g-C3N4. Finally, the possible degradation pathway and electron transfer mechanism of the dual Z-scheme heterojunction are proposed.
