Abstract
Functionalized metal organic framework (MOF) and covalent organic framework (COF) composites (MOF@COFs) with complementary advantages, hierarchical pores, pre-designable and tunable structures, are expected for remarkable adsorption of organic pollutants, yet to be explored. Herein, a kind of MOF@COF composite was synthesized by combining the parent MIL-68(In) and COF-V (10 %-MIL-68@COF-V), characterized with well-retained crystallinity and hierarchical pores. The parent materials and as-prepared MIL-68@COF-Vs were further fabricated as solid phase microextraction (SPME) coatings to study their extraction performance for Cl/Br-substituted organic pollutants. The 10 %-MIL-68@COF-V coated fiber exhibited the most outstanding enrichment performance for Cl/Br-substituted organic pollutants mainly due to the synthetic advantages, which was 1.1-196.5 times superior than that of the commercial PDMS coating. By combining it with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), an ultrasensitive method was established, exhibiting wide linear ranges (1-5000 ng L-1), low LODs (0.17-0.29 ng L-1), and good reproducibility. The trace Cl/Br-substituted organic pollutants in marine water samples were successfully detected, verifying the practicability of the developed method in environmental monitoring.

Magnetic conjugated microporous polymer for rapid extraction and sensitive analysis of environmental endocrine disruptors in environmental waters and dairy products. Anal Chim Acta 2024; 1324:343071. [PMID: 39218571 DOI: 10.1016/j.aca.2024.343071] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 03/29/2024] [Revised: 07/24/2024] [Accepted: 08/05/2024] [Indexed: 09/04/2024]
Abstract
BACKGROUND Environmental endocrine disruptors (EEDs) are a class of new pollutants that are diffusely used in the medical industry and animal husbandry. In view of toxicity concerns, elevated levels of EEDs in the environment and food, which cause potential harm to human beings and ecosystems, must be monitored. Determination of EEDs contaminants to ensure environment and food safety has became a major concern worldwide, it is also a challenging task because of their trace level and probable matrices interference. Thus, developing rapid adsorption and efficient analysis methods for EEDs is apparently necessary. RESULTS A magnetic conjugated micro-porous polymer (Fe3O4@TbDt) was designed and synthesized, which was endowed with large specific surface area, rich functional groups and magnetic responsiveness. The material showed high extraction efficiency for EEDs via magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE). The quantum chemistry calculations showed the adsorption mechanism of Fe3O4@TbDt on EEDs mainly included electrostatic interactions, van der waals forces (N-H … π interaction, C-H … π interaction), and multiple hydrogen bonds. Finally, a trace analysis method for nine EEDs was established combined with HPLC-MS/MS under optimized MSPE conditions. The method showed a good linearity (R2 ≥ 0.996), low limits of detection (0.25-5.1 ng L-1), high precision (RSD of 1.1-8.2 %, n = 6). The applicability of this method was investigated by analyzing four water samples and two dairy products, and satisfactory recovery rates (82.1-100.7 %) were obtained. The proposed method showed the potential for the analysis of EEDs residues in food and environmental samples. SIGNIFICANCE The developed MSPE method based on conjugated micro-porous polymers (CMPs) is simple, green, and efficient compared to existing techniques. The application of CMPs provides a new idea for preparing versatile sample pre-treatment materials. What's more, this work has certain reference value for addressing of EEDs residues in the environment and food.

JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2024; 472:134609. Abstract
Simultaneous rapid screening of multiple drugs of abuse in environmental water facilitates effective monitoring and trend assessments. Herein, a novel porphyrin-based metal organic frameworks modified Ti3C2Tx nanosheets (Cu-TCPP/Ti3C2Tx) composite was prepared and utilized as solid-phase microextraction (SPME) coating for the simultaneous analysis of 21 drugs from water samples. The composite was embedded with matrix-compatible polyacrylonitrile binder to prepare a coated blade with thin and uniform coating layer. Ambient mass spectrometry (MS) technique was used to create a coated blade spray-MS (CBS-MS) method for the quantitative determination of drugs in water samples. High throughput and automated sample preparation were achieved with the use of a Concept 96-well plate system, enabling analysis of 21 drugs of abuse within 1 min per sample, while using only 8 µL of organic solvent for desorption and CBS-MS detection. The developed method showed favorable linearity (R2 ≥ 0.9983) in the range of 0.05 to 10 ng mL-1, low limits of detection (1.5-9.0 ng L-1), sufficient recovery (67.6-133.2%), as well as satisfactory precision (RSDs≤13.5%). This study not only delivers a novel and efficient SPME coating composite, but also demonstrates the excellent performance of a high-throughput, efficient, and green analytical method for determination of drugs in environmental water.

Porous covalent organic framework nanofibrous membrane for excellent enrichment and ultra-high sensitivity detection of trace organochlorine pesticides in water. J Chromatogr A 2024; 1721:464854. [PMID: 38579528 DOI: 10.1016/j.chroma.2024.464854] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/29/2024] [Revised: 03/13/2024] [Accepted: 03/26/2024] [Indexed: 04/07/2024]
Abstract
Developing adsorbents with high performance and long service life for effective extracting the trace organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) from real water is attracting numerous attentions. Herein, a self-standing covalent organic framework (COF-TpPa) membrane with fiber morphology was successfully synthesized by using electrospun nanofiber membranes as template and employed as solid-phase microextraction (SPME) coating for ultra-high sensitivity extraction and analysis of trace OCPs in water. The as-synthesized COF-TpPa membrane exhibited a high specific surface area (800.83 m2 g-1), stable nanofibrous structure, and excellent chemical and thermal stability. Based on the COF-TpPa membrane, a new SPME analytical method in conjunction with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was established. This proposed method possessed favorable linearity in concentration of 0.05-2000 ng L-1, high sensitivity with enrichment factors ranging from 2175 to 5846, low limits of detection (0.001-0.150 ng L-1), satisfactory precision (RSD < 10 %), and excellent repeatability (>150 cycles), which was better than most of the reported works. Additionally, the density functional theory (DFT) calculations and XPS results demonstrated that the outstanding enrichment performance of the COF-TpPa membrane was owing to synergistic effect of π-π stacking effects, high specific surface area and hydrogen bonding. This work will expect to extend the applications of COF membrane to captures trace organic pollutants in complex environmental water, as well as offer a multiscale interpretation for the design of effective adsorbents.
