Abstract
Fungi are ubiquitous in nature, and typically cause little or no environmental or pathogenic damage to their plant, animal, and human hosts. However, a small but growing number of pathogenic fungi are spreading world-wide at an alarming rate threatening global ecosystem health and proliferation. Many of these emerging pathogens have developed multi-drug resistance to front line therapeutics increasing the urgency for the development of new antifungal agents. This review examines the development of thiosemicarbazones, bis(thiosemicarbazones), and their metal complexes as potential antifungal agents against more than 65 different fungal strains. The fungistatic activity of the compounds are quantified based on the zone of inhibition, minimum inhibitory concentration, or growth inhibition percentage. In this review, reported activities were standardized based on molar concentrations to simplify comparisons between different compounds. Of all the fungal strains reported in the review, A. niger in particular was very resistant towards a majority of tested compounds. Our analysis of the data shows that metal complexes are typically more active than non-coordinated ligands with copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes generally displaying the highest activity.

Abstract
Purpose: Quercetin is a flavonoid known for its therapeutic properties and for forming complexes. Although the antimony-quercetin (SbQ) complex has been produced before, no previous exploration of its characteristics has been published in literature. Thus, this study aimed to characterize this complex, assess its stability and investigate its complexation site through its antibacterial activity. Methods: The SbQ complex was synthetized using Sb(III) potassium tartrate trihydrate and quercetin anhydrous (1:1) (v/v) as a solution and dried using three methods: rotaevaporation, lyophilization and spray drying. The material, in solution, was analyzed by UV-vis and fluorimetry; and, in the powder, by X-ray diffraction (XRD), both scanning electronic and fluorescence microscopy and infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Antimicrobial activity was evaluated via broth microdilution. Results: UV-vis exhibited a shoulder peak at 291 nm indicating metal chelation at C-ring of quercetin and confirmed 1:1 stoichiometry. Spectrofluorimetry showed an increase of intensity with the complex formation with an emission band (525 nm). After drying, XRD and SEM indicated loss of crystallinity and a difference in shape and size of the complex compared to its precursors. FT-IR suggested by a shift of frequency of the carbonyl group (1661 cm-1) that the quercetin bond to antimony by the C-3, followed by positions C-5 and C-4 carbonyl, which has been confirmed by MIC through the structure-activity relationship of the antibacterial activity of quercetin. Conclusion: These results provided a characterization of SbQ complex with the confirmation of its binding site, working as a guide for future studies involving this complex.

Abstract
A family of three discrete organoantimony(III)-functionalized heteropolyanions-[Na{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}As(III)2W19O67(H2O)](10-) (1), [{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}2As(III)2W19O67(H2O)](8-) (2), and [{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}{WO2(H2O)}{WO(H2O)}2(B-β-As(III)W8O30)(B-α-As(III)W9O33)2](14-) (3)-have been prepared by one-pot reactions of the 19-tungstodiarsenate(III) precursor [As(III)2W19O67(H2O)](14-) with 2-(Me2NCH2)C6H4SbCl2. The three novel polyanions crystallized as the hydrated mixed-alkali salts Cs3KNa6[Na{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}As(III)2W19O67(H2O)]·43H2O (CsKNa-1), Rb2.5K5.5[{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}2As(III)2W19O67(H2O)]·18H2O·Me2NCH2C6H5 (RbK-2), and Rb2.5K11.5[{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}{WO2(H2O)}{WO(H2O)}2(B-β-As(III)W8O30)(B-α-As(III)W9O33)2]·52H2O (RbK-3), respectively. The number of incorporated {2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)} units could be tuned by careful control of the experimental parameters. Polyanions 1 and 2 possess a dimeric sandwich-type topology, whereas 3 features a trimeric, wheel-shaped structure, representing the largest organoantimony-containing polyanion. All three compounds were fully characterized in the solid state via single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, and their aqueous solution stability was validated by ultraviolet-visible light (UV-vis) and multinuclear ((1)H, (13)C, and (183)W) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Effective inhibition against six different types of bacteria was observed for 1 and 2, and we could extract a structure-bioactivity relationship for these polyanions.

Abstract
Novel pyrimidine compound bearing disulfide bridge, 5,5'-disulfanediylbis(2-amino-4,6-dimetoxypyrimidine) (3) was synthesized by reduction of 2-amino-4,6-dimethoxy-5-thiocyanatopyrimidine for the first time, and its structure was confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analysis. Novel binuclear antimony(III) compound of (3), {Sb[5,5'-disulfanediylbis(2-amino-4,6-dimetoxypyrimidine)]Cl3}2 (4) and mononuclear antimony(III) compounds, SbL2Cl3, [L: 2-amino-5-thiol-4,6-dimethoxy pyrimidine (2) and 2-amino-5-(1H-tetrazol-5-ylthio)-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine (6)] were synthesized and characterized with the help of elemental analysis, molecular conductivity, FT-IR, (1)H-NMR and LC-MS techniques. The geometrical structures optimized by a DFT/B3LYP/LANL2DZ method of the compounds, indicated that monomeric compounds have square pyramidal shape. Both antileishmanial activity against Leishmania tropica promastigote and glutathione reductase inhibitory activity were determined in vitro. The results showed that (3) has the best biological activity.

Abstract
With a steadily increasing world population, a more efficient system of food production is of paramount importance. One of the major causes of food spoilage is the presence of fungal pathogens and the production and accumulation of mycotoxins. In the present work we report a study on the activity of a series of functionalized thiosemicarbazones (namely cuminaldehyde, trans-cinnamaldehyde, quinoline-2-carboxyaldehyde, 5-fluoroisatin thiosemicarbazone and 5-fluoroisatin N(4)-methylthiosemicarbazone), as antifungal and anti-mycotoxin agents, against the two major genera of cereal mycotoxigenic fungi, i.e. Fusarium and Aspergillus. These thiosemicarbazones display different patterns of efficacy on fungal growth and on mycotoxin accumulation depending on the fungal species. Some of the molecules display a greater effect on mycotoxin synthesis than on fungal growth.

Abstract
The title compound, [CuCl2(C19H16N4O)], contains a Cu(II) atom N,N',O-chelated by a neutral N-phenyl-hy-dra-zine-car-box-amide ligand and additionally coordinated by two Cl atoms, resulting in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The ligating atoms in the basal square plane of the complex comprise the azomethine N, the pyridine N, the amide O and one of the Cl atoms, whereas the other Cl atom occupies an apical position. The apical Cl atoms in adjacent layers function as hydrogen-bond acceptors to both NH groups. Intermolecular C-H⋯Cl and C-H⋯O interactions are also observed.

Abstract
Through systematic structure-activity studies of the 2-benzoylpyridine thiosemicarbazone (HBpT), 2-(3-nitrobenzoyl)pyridine thiosemicarbazone (HNBpT) and dipyridylketone thiosemicarbazone (HDpT) series of iron (Fe) chelators, we identified structural features necessary to form Fe complexes with potent anticancer activity (J. Med. Chem. 2007, 50, 3716-3729). In this investigation, we generated the related 2-acetylpyridine thiosemicarbazone (HApT) analogues to examine the influence of the methyl group at the imine carbon. Four of the six HApT chelators had potent antitumor activity (IC(50): 0.001-0.002 microM) and Fe chelation efficacy that was similar to the most effective HBpT and HDpT ligands. The HApT Fe complexes had the lowest Fe(III/II) redox potentials of any thiosemicarbazone series we have generated. This property, in combination with their ability to effectively chelate cellular Fe, make the HApT series one of the most potent antiproliferative agents developed by our group.

Abstract
Mono- and binuclear VO(IV), Ce(III), Th(IV) and UO(2)(VI) complexes of thiosemicarbazone, semicarbazone and thiocarbohydrazone ligands derived from 4,6-diacetylresorcinol were synthesized. The structures of these complexes were elucidated by elemental analyses, IR, UV-vis, ESR, (1)H NMR and mass spectra as well as conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements and thermal analyses. The thiosemicarbazone (H(4)L(1)) and the semicarbazone (H(4)L(2)) ligands behave as dibasic pentadentate ligands in case of VO(IV) and UO(2)(VI) complexes, tribasic pentadentate in case of Ce(III) complexes and monobasic pentadentate in case of Th(IV) complexes. However, the thiocarbohydrazone ligand (H(3)L(3)) acts as a monobasic tridentate ligand in all complexes except the VO(IV) complex in which it acts as a dibasic tridentate ligand. The antibacterial and antifungal activities were also tested against Rhizobium bacteria and Fusarium-Oxysporium fungus. The metal complexes of H(4)L(1) ligand showed a higher antibacterial effect than the free ligand while the other ligands (H(4)L(2) and H(3)L(3)) showed a higher effect than their metal complexes. The antifungal effect of all metal complexes is lower than the free ligands.
