Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the awareness and existing knowledge of a portion of the Greek population about prevention, screening, and HPV vaccination. METHODS A questionnaire designed in Google forms has been distributed through social media between June 2021 and December 2021 in men and women aged > 16 years old. Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS 20.0 program. Inferential analysis was performed to evaluate differences in responses among men and women. RESULTS We enrolled 2685 participants. Of those, 2285 were women, 386 were men, while 14 respondents chose not to respond to this question. Various age groups were detected with those aged between 26 and 30 years old being the predominant one. Participants with a higher education constituted 36.5% of the population. Most respondents were married (59.8%). In socioeconomic terms 75.5% of participants were employed whereas, monthly income ranged between 1000 and 1500 euros in the predominant group (36.8%). Only 40% of females and 3.9% of males were vaccinated against HPV. Adolescent immunization, acceptability rates reached 92.7% among female and 82.1% among male responders. Although, only a small proportion of the participants were not aware of the existence of HPV, 24.1% of males and 23.4% of females had the impression that condom use may provide absolute immunity to HPV and only 51.6% of males and 60.4% of females were aware about the high prevalence of HPV in the general population. Logistic regression analysis indicated that male participants as well as those aged > 50 years and those choosing to reject vaccination had decreased knowledge of the basic pathophysiology of HPV infection, as well as knowledge related to the existence and use of HPV DNA as a screening tool and the existence and efficacy of HPV vaccination. CONCLUSION Our results indicate that although awareness of the existence of HPV infection is high in Greek general population, the actual perception of the pathophysiology of transmission and importance of HPV testing and vaccination is low. Targeting specific population groups is essential to help increase HPV coverage and screening.

Abstract
Abstract
Objective The aim of this study is to determine parents' knowledge levels and attitudes about childhood human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and reveal the differences between parents who are health care workers and nonhealth care workers. The HPV vaccine can potentially prevent initial HPV infection and HPV-related genital and anal precancerous disorders and cancers.
Methods Questions and attitudes toward childhood HPV vaccination were asked to 564 parents who agreed to participate in the study.
Results In our study, the rate of health care worker parents considering having their children vaccinated against HPV (63.1%) was higher than that of nonhealth care worker parents (11.4%). Only 5% of parents had their children previously vaccinated against HPV; however, there was no difference between parents who were health care workers and those who were not. In addition, this rate was relatively low compared to other paid vaccines (49.8, 35.3, and 18.8%, respectively). Parents who had not previously vaccinated their children against HPV were considering getting their children vaccinated, especially if a pediatrician recommended it.
Conclusion The parents' high level of health literacy may not be effective in deciding to vaccinate their children against HPV. Therefore, adequate information and awareness should be provided to all parents about HPV vaccination as early as possible for all children of appropriate age. Pediatricians should be given important roles in raising the awareness of parents about childhood HPV vaccination by health authorities.

Abstract
Introduction: Human papilloma virus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections and is widely known as the main causative agent for cervical cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the perceptions, knowledge and attitudes of young Greek adults concerning prevention of HPV infection and HPV immunization. Material and Methods: This constitutes a cross-sectional online survey. A convenience sample of young Greek adults (n = 883) residing in Greece, aged 17 to more than 35 years was surveyed from December 2020 to March 2021. Two validated questionnaires were used to collect data. Results: Participants demonstrated moderate knowledge about HPV infection and vaccination, with a mean knowledge score of 53.26 (SD ± 20.65) and 38.92 (SD ± 17.58), respectively. Cronbach’s alpha value was 0.77 and 0.80. Female participants were better informed than males. Approximately 52.3% of respondents had been vaccinated and 65.5% were willing to get vaccinated in the future. Vaccination rate was significantly associated with gender (OR = 11.99; 99% CI = 6.59–21.84), knowledge about the HPV vaccine (OR = 1.04; 99% CI = 1.03–1.04) and age (OR = 0.07; 99% CI = 0.03–0.15). Reasons for vaccine refusal were insufficient information (36.8%) and fear of side effects (19%). Correlates of positive vaccination intention were knowledge about HPV (OR = 1.02; 99% CI = 1.01–1.02). Conclusions: The findings suggest that the Greek government’s continuing HPV promotion efforts and education on the risks of HPV infection among young people are likely to increase vaccination acceptance among this group.

Abstract
Background: The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the role of health education among young adolescents, regarding their level of knowledge about the HPV and the acceptance of the HPV vaccination, with the aim of increasing vaccination coverage, in Trikala city, mainland of Greece. Methods: This study included high school students from all public and private schools of Trikala city. Questionnaires related to knowledge regarding the HPV infection and HPV vaccination were administered in three phases. In the first phase of the study, the questionnaires were completed by the entire study population. During the second and third phases, the completion of the questionnaires concerned only the population that received the intervention (interactive seminars). The second and third phase questionnaires were completed immediately after the interactive seminar and three months later, respectively. The statistical analysis of the results was performed using IBM SPSS 20.0 statistical program. Results: A total of 434 female students completed the questionnaire (response rate 76.26%). Most participants (66.6%) were females. The questionnaires evaluated the respondents’ awareness of the HPV infection. The results show that the percentage of the participants who stated that they “do not know” what HPV is decreased from 44.4% (first phase), to 1.6% (second phase), and 8.1% (third phase). Similarly, the willingness to accept the HPV vaccine increased from 71% (first phase), to 89.1% (second phase), and 83.5% (third phase). Conclusions: The present study shows that targeted interactive informational interventions in the school environment leads to a statistically significant increase in both the level of knowledge about HPV and the willingness of young adolescent students to be vaccinated against cervical cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical and oropharyngeal cancers are associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, which can be prevented with the vaccines. However, uptake of the HPV vaccine remains low in many countries. There is a need to better understand the barriers to and facilitators of HPV vaccination from young people's perspectives. METHODS Five electronic databases were searched for original publications (dated January, 2006-December, 2019) reporting barriers to and facilitators of HPV vaccination among young people. All articles were screened against prespecified eligibility criteria, and data were extracted against prespecified form. RESULTS A total of 13 studies that were published in international peer-reviewed journals and met the stated eligibility criteria were identified. The barriers reported were centralized around lack of knowledge about HPV and the HPV vaccine, fear about the safety and efficacy of the HPV vaccine, fear about not being able to pay for the HPV vaccine, and discrimination regarding to the HPV vaccine. The facilitators reported were centralized around trust in the efficacy and safety of the HPV vaccine, discounted price of vaccination, positive recommendations from others, perceived risk of HPV infection, and benefits of vaccine. CONCLUSIONS After their introduction 14 years ago, knowledge deficiency of the HPV vaccine is still a critical barrier to vaccination. Educational initiatives aimed at adolescents and young adults were urgently needed. Understanding factors that arbitrate in early HPV vaccination is critical for improving the HPV vaccination rate.

Abstract
Vaccine hesitancy has increased, which has an effect on vaccine uptake. The aim of our study was to investigate childhood vaccination coverage in Western Greece and identify factors affecting it. We also aimed to assess trends in childhood vaccination coverage nationwide. A cross-sectional study was conducted (2016-2019) in all the primary schools in Patras, the third largest city in the country. Data collection was undertaken using child vaccination booklets and questionnaires on socio-demographics. Multiple regression analyses were performed to evaluate relevant associations. We also performed a systematic review of published data on childhood vaccination coverage in Greece during the last two decades. Data for 1657 children was collected and 371 questionnaires were returned. High vaccination coverage (>90%) was observed for the majority of the vaccines. For the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV), coverage with four doses, as recommended at the time of study, was suboptimal (39.2%). For human papillomavirus vaccines and the meningococcal serogroup B vaccine, full vaccination coverage was 2.6% and 6.5%, respectively. No association with socio-demographics was found for vaccines with high coverage. For PCV the number of doses given was related to Greek nationality (β = 0.185, p < .001) and parental employment status (β = -0.115, p = .043). Compared to previous studies (16 eligible), there was a trend toward higher coverage. Public health interventions should focus on increasing vaccine uptake of specific vaccines among populations with particular characteristics. A national network recording vaccine coverage is urgently required in the country to monitor vaccine uptake and assess trends over time.

Abstract
Introduction: HPV vaccines were administered in mainland China from July 2017 at a gradual rate. We aimed to assess the vaccination rate and vaccination influencing factors among college students in mainland China.Methods: From October to December 2018, we conducted face-to-face questionnaires including 5 sections and 22 questions to collect demographic information, HPV infection and transmission knowledge, HPV vaccine knowledge and attitudes among college students in Guangzhou, China. HPV vaccine vaccination status and cervical screening behaviors were self-reported. Knowledge and attitudes differences between the vaccinate and non-vaccinate groups were analyzed using univariable logistic regression. Vaccination-related influencing factors were estimated using multivariable logistic regression.Results: 5307 of 5414 valid questionnaires were collected. The self-reported cervical screening rate and HPV vaccine coverage were 11.82% (9.03%-14.61%) and 3.09% (2.62%-3.56%). In total, 55.57% of the participants were hesitant about vaccination. Urban residence (OR = 2.1, 95%CI: 1.4-3.3), high monthly consumption (OR = 2.6, 95%CI: 1.9-3.6), awareness of vaccination adaptive population (OR = 3.1, 95%CI: 1.9-5.0), awareness of infection-related risk factors (OR = 2.5, 95%CI: 1.1-5.7), and awareness of HPV vaccine effectiveness (OR = 3.2, 95%CI: 2.0-5.2) were significant in multivariable logistic regression.Conclusion: HPV vaccine coverage is quite low among college students in China Guangzhou. Economic affordability, awareness of HPV infection, and belief in the effectiveness of HPV vaccine are influencing factors for vaccination. In the future, establishing a national financial subsidy and strengthening health education is needed to increase the vaccination rate in China.

Abstract
Vaccine hesitancy remains one of the 10 major global threats as per the WHO report in 2019. The aim of the present study is to assess attitudes and perceptions of vaccine hesitant parents in Greece with a view to implementing strategies to increase vaccine uptake. A cross-sectional questionnaire-based prospective survey was conducted between September 2019 and June 2020 on parents of children attending primary education in the city of Patras in Western Greece. Data on parental attitudes and beliefs about vaccinations were collected and analyzed. Multivariable logistic regression was used to investigate factors associated with vaccine uptake. Out of 2154 distributed questionnaires, 1227 were completed and returned (response rate 56.9%). The main vaccine information source for Greek parents was their primary care pediatrician (90.8%). Doubts still exist amongst approximately one-third of them (33.5%) regarding a possible relationship between vaccines and autism. Of note, 44% of the study participants believe that unvaccinated children could attend school. 84.6% of the parents in our cohort admitted that they had fully vaccinated their children. In the multivariable analysis, marital status (p < .002) and Greek nationality (p < .001) were found to be the most significant determinants of vaccine uptake. Overall, we found that the percentage of parents in Greece that are vaccine hesitant is small yet not negligible. Based on our results, targeted public health interventions should particularly focus on single parents and those with non-Greek nationality. Training healthcare professionals to provide adequate information is crucial to clarify misperceptions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Our objectives were to describe Human Papillomavirus vaccination coverage rates (HPV-VCR), policies, and practical steps for programme implementation that may be linked to high uptake in the population targeted by routine programmes across 30 European Union/European Economic Area Member States and Switzerland. METHODS Information from institutional websites and from articles indexed in Medline between 01/2006 and 01/2017 was reviewed and extracted using a standardised form. In 12/2017, a cross-sectional survey was administered to national experts, in order to update the compiled information. RESULTS Data were available in 31 countries, and validated by national experts in 28 of them. National vaccination programmes targeted girls 9-15 years of age in 30 countries and boys in 11 countries. HPV-VCR in girls was monitored in 25 countries: VCR was reported ≥71%(high) in ten countries, 51-70% in seven, 31-50% in four, and ≤30%(very low) in four. In high VCR countries, HPV vaccination was mainly delivered through school health services, and invitation and reminders to attend for vaccination were used. In areas with very low VCR, vaccination tended to be opportunistic and no reminders were used. CONCLUSION According to our findings, school delivery within structured vaccination programmes and the use of reminders tended to be associated with highest HPV-VCR.

Abstract
Almost 10 years ago, in October, 2008, the scientist who reported for the first time the association between human papillomaviruses (HPV) and cervical cancer, was awarded with the Nobel prize. In the years that followed, Professor Harald zur Hausen actively supported the value of the HPV vaccination in the prevention of different types of cancer and highlighted the necessity of its introduction in both girls and boys. However, to date, in the majority of countries, HPV vaccination among male adolescents has not been implemented into the national vaccination schemes, while in several countries, including Greece, the participation rate to HPV vaccination among female adolescents still remains low. Recent data indicate that catch-up HPV vaccination among young women has been extremely useful and has exhibited a significant effect in decreasing the prevalence of HPV. While the marketed current HPV vaccines prevent anogenital HPV infection, their impact on the natural history of oral HPV and their efficacy in preventing HPV-related head and neck carcinomas need to be further investigated. Juvenile onset recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, as well as HPV-associated conjunctival papillomas continue to be observed in childhood and their clinical management involves different therapeutic approaches with controversial outcomes. This review article provides an overview of recent views and advances on HPV infections and prevention in childhood that were presented at the '4th Workshop on Paediatric Virology' on Saturday September 22, 2018 in Athens, Greece.

Abstract
Europe is increasingly described as the region in the world with the least confidence in vaccination, and particularly in the safety of vaccines. The aim of this systematic literature review was to gather and summarise all peer-reviewed and grey literature published about determinants of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine hesitancy in Europe. Ten thematic categories were identified across the 103 articles which were included in the review. Participants from European studies most commonly reported issues with the quantity and quality of information available about HPV vaccination; followed by concerns about potential side effects of the vaccine; and mistrust of health authorities, healthcare workers, and new vaccines. Comparative analyses indicated that confidence determinants differed by country and population groups. This evidence supports the need to develop context-specific interventions to improve confidence in HPV vaccination and design community engagement strategies aiming to build public trust.
