Abstract
The increase in the incidence of gastric ulcer (GU) has posed major threat on public health. This research aimed to evaluate gastroprotective properties of the aqueous leaf extract of Talium triangulare (AETT) in ethanol-induced gastric ulceration. GU was induced via oral administration of single dose of 5 mLkg-1 of 90% ethanol in rats and protection of 200 mgkg-1 bw of AETT and 20 mgkg-1 bw of omeprazole was investigated for 14 d via oral treatment. Influence of AETT on anti-inflammatory, redox assays, ulcer index (UI), and gastric mucosa histological alterations were evaluated. Significant increase in myeloperoxidase (MPO) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha levels compared to untreated group established gastric inflammation in rats induced by ethanol. Gastric ulcerated group exhibited heightened oxidative stress with concurrent decline in activities of antioxidant enzymes. Ethanol exposure to rats resulted in induction of lipid peroxidation, prominently elevating gastric malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration. Nevertheless, treatment with AETT or omeprazole exhibited substantial anti-inflammatory effects within gastric mucosa by attenuating expression of markers associated with inflammation. AETT demonstrated reduction in concentrations of MDA and H2O2, thereby alleviating progression of lipid peroxidation cascades. Also, AETT exhibited mitigating effect on ethanol-induced oxidative harm by enhancing the functionality of protective enzymes and elevating glutathione (GSH) concentration. Overall, AETT exhibited enhancements in activities of cytoprotective antioxidant enzymes, mitigated impact of oxidative stress and inflammation, inhibited lipid peroxidation, and decreased UI score. These beneficial effects could be attributed to phytochemicals present in AETT including 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone and Phytol. Outcome of this study established the traditional herbal claims of AETT.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Synthesis of the original Schiff base CdCl2 (C14H21N3O2) compound (Schiff base complex) displays an extensive range of bioactivities and was predictably utilized to treat several syndromes. PURPOSE The goal of the existing experiment is to evaluate the gastroprotective effects of a novel Schiff base CdCl₂ (C14H21N3O2) compound in alcohol-induced gastric ulcers in rats by examining its antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory effects, and modulation of key molecular markers, including heat shock protein-70 (HSP-70) and Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax) proteins. METHODS Five groups of rats were utilized in the current study. Control and model groups were orally administered 10% Tween 20. The treated groups were orally administered 20 mg/kg omeprazole or Schiff base compound (25 or 50 mg/kg). One hour later, only the control group received oral 10% Tween 20, and the treated groups received oral (5 ml/cage) absolute alcohol. During the second hour, all rats were sacrificed. RESULTS All treated rats presented considerable improvement in alcohol-induced gastric injury recognized by decreasing ulcer index and raising % of ulcer inhibition. Increased mucus and gastric pH content and decreased ulcerated portion, reduced or non-appearance of edema, and leucocytes penetrated the subcutaneous layer. In stomach epithelium homogenate, the Schiff base compound obtainable significant upsurge superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) activities, considerable declining malondialdehyde (MDA) quantity. Moreover, the Schiff base compound raised the intensity of periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) stains gastric epithelium. Furthermore, the Schiff base compound formed up-regulated HSP-70 and down-regulated Bax proteins gastric epithelium Schiff base compound, reduced the level of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and improved the quantity of IL-10. Administering a high dose of 500 mg/kg Schiff base compound revealed the nontoxic nature of the compound in rats. CONCLUSION Schiff base compound exhibited gastroprotective effects attributed to its antioxidant nature, its capability to enhance mucus excretion, SOD and CAT, reduce MDA amount, up-regulate HSP-70 protein, down-regulate Bax protein, and inflammatory cytokines.

Abstract
Peptic ulcers, affecting approximately 10% of the global population, can result from factors such as stress, alcohol use, smoking, NSAIDs, Helicobacter pylori infection, and genetic predisposition. Plant-based medicines are gaining recognition for their therapeutic potential, including in the treatment of peptic ulcers. Green chemistry methods for the biological synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) provide a sustainable alternative to traditional chemical techniques. These nanoparticles, particularly metallic NPs and metal oxides synthesized from plant extracts, offer promising anti-ulcer properties. This review highlights research from 2000 to 2024 on the use of green-synthesized nanoparticles and their role in peptic ulcer treatment, focusing on their therapeutic mechanisms and potential benefits. For this purpose, an electronic search of published research and review articles was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Cochrane databases, and Google Scholar.

Abstract
Medicinal plants used for wound healing in Lubumbashi have yet to be discovered. Inventory or profile of their taxa has yet to be established. The present study was carried out to survey the plants used in traditional medicine in Lubumbashi to treat wounds and to define their ethnomedical characteristics. The study was conducted between March 2021 and August 2022, using semistructured interview surveys of households (n = 2730), herbalists (n = 48), and traditional practitioners: TPs (n = 128).The 2,906 interviewed (sex ratio M/F = 0.9; mean age: 56 ± 3 years; and experience: 17 ± 4 years) provided information on 166 taxa, 130 used against chronic wounds, among which Securidaca longepedunculata was the top cited. Most of these taxa are shrubs (33%), belonging to 48 botanical families dominated by the Fabaceae (16%). They are indicated in 70 other pathologies. From these 166 taxa, 198 healing recipes are obtained, 11 combining more than one plant. In all these recipes, the leaf (>36%) is the most used part, and the poultice (>36%) is the most popular form of use. Twelve taxa are cited for the first time as medicinal plants, of which Agelanthus zizyphifolius has the highest consensus and Erigeron sumatrensis has the highest usual value. For the various plants used to treat wounds, some of which are specific to the region, further studies should focus on validating this traditional use.

Abstract
This study aims to develop innovative heterocyclic nanocomposites incorporating silver nanoparticles (SNPs) for potential therapeutic applications targeting infections, gastric ulceration, inflammation, and oxidative damage. By synthesizing new derivatives of spiro-thiazolidine-carbonitrile (Py-ST-X) and incorporating them into Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), we have prepared Ag@Py-ST-X and Ag@Py-ST-X@CNT nanocomposites, respectively. The physical properties of these materials were studied using XRD, TEM, SEM, and Zeta potential techniques. In our investigation involving rats with gastric ulcers, we observed noteworthy inhibitory effects on gastric acid enzyme activity, specifically H+/K+ATPase, by Ag@Py-ST-NO2 and Ag@Py-ST-Br nanocomposites, demonstrating reductions of 25 and 34%, respectively, compared to untreated ulcers. Nanotubulation of these compounds further improved their inhibitory efficacy to 29 and 45%, respectively. Additionally, these nanoparticles showed the most potent myeloperoxidase (MPO)-inhibitory activity, demonstrating 36 and 49% inhibition, respectively, with nanotubulated versions reaching 44 and 53%. Moreover, Ag@Py-ST-NO2@CNT and Ag@Py-ST-Br@CNT nanotubes showed significant antioxidant activity, reducing thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) by 35 and 51%, and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) levels by 49 and 71%, respectively. These therapeutic effects were confirmed by reductions in gastric surface area (GSA) by 44% and 52%, a decrease in ulcer index (UI) from 80% to 44 and 38%, and an increase in curative index (CI) from 19 to 55 and 62% following administration of Ag@Py-ST-NO2@CNT and Ag@Py-ST-Br@CNT, respectively. Histological studies support these findings, suggesting the potential of these nanocomposites as promising candidates for treating various disorders.

Abstract
Objectives Evaluating the effect of fresh Oleaster leaf extract (OLE) and purified oleuropein (OLR) on ethanol-induced gastric ulcers in rats. HPLC analysis demonstrates the presence of various polyphenol compounds such as ligstroside, luteolin derivative, oleuropein, and comselogoside. Materials and Methods Gastric ulcer was induced by administration of ethanol by the gastric gavage route. The olive leaf extract was analyzed by HPLC-PDA-ESI-MS, and OLR was purified. These two compounds were given 2 hr before gastric ulcer induction by ethanol. Results This study verified that OLE and purified OLR protect from ethanol-induced gastric ulceration and damage, evidenced by the significant decrease in gastric ulcer urea (by 74 and 58% respectively) and stomach mucus content (by 169 and 87% respectively). In addition, the ulcer index (UI) and curative index (CI) levels in the stomach of the rats treated with this supplement were also suppressed by 55 and 46%, respectively. OLE and OLR also decreased the gastric myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity and ameliorated the nitric oxide (NO) content. OLE and OL also ingestion suppressed gastric tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin (IL-6) rates. Macroscopic and histological findings revealed that OLE and OLR protect from gastric hemorrhage, severe disruption of the gastric mucosa, and neutrophil infiltration. Conclusion Overall, the findings demonstrate that OLE and OLR have both promising potential with regard to the inhibition of gastric hemorrhage and lesions.

Abstract
Prosopis farcta was previously used in folk medicine as a dry fruit to relieve pain before its active biological components that contribute to this were known. This study assessed the effectiveness of a dry fruit extract of P. farcta by measuring the indicators of inflammation in albino rats after they were dosed with ethanol. As such, looking at the antioxidant potential of P. farcta fruit aqueous extract (PFFAE) in resistance to ethanol's harm in rats given ethanol showed a notable increase in serum C reactive protein (CRP), malondialdehyde (MDA), CRP/ALB ratio (CAR), and WBC count. At the same time, glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and albumin were markedly reduced. PFFAE diminished ethanol-induced amounts of CRP, MDA, and CAR in plasma; additionally, it strengthened the ethanol-induced decline in GPx activity, and albumin had no apparent effect on the ESR level. Consequently, the current findings demonstrate that PFFAE counteracts the toxicity of ethanol and has a protective impact against the ethanol effect.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hymenocardia acida (HA) is one of the numerous medicinal plants in Nigeria with ethnomedicinal history of usage in the treatment of ulcer. The study aimed at isolating antiulcer principle(s) from the stem bark of HA as well as the mechanism of action determination. METHODS Antiulcer screenings of the crude extract, aqueous fraction, and bulked VLC fractions were performed using in vivo and in vitro models. Docking was carried out by using PyRx. RESULTS Crude extract (HA; 1 mg/mL) and the aqueous fraction of H. acida (HAA; 1 mg/mL) showed an acid neutralizing capacity (MEq) of 0.3948 and 0.4035, respectively which is significantly different from 0.431 MEq showed by negative control (distilled water) at p<0.05. BVLC 3 (1 mg/mL) showed a significant value of 0.4049 MEq. However, HA showed a dose-dependent decrease in activity across doses examined, with 100 mg/kg showing an ulcer index of 10.00±2.89 (61.50%) and cimetidine (positive control; 100 mg/kg), also showed the highest ulcer index of 3.67±0.88 (85.9%), which is significantly different from ulcer index of 26.00±6.35 (0.00%) p<0.05 observed in the negative control (5% dimethylsulphoxide). The highest ulcer index of 8.00±1.32 (65.10%) was noted in BVLC 3. Bioactive BVLC 3, resulted in an isolated compound (BF3B2A). The compound was suggested to be lupeol, with a docking score of -7.7. It showed a van der Waal interaction with some key amino acid residues in the vonoprazan binding site. CONCLUSION The experimental studies justify the ethnomedicinal claim of usage among locals.

Abstract
Ranunculus millefoliatus (RM) has been reported to have a numeral of biological properties. Though, the influence of this plant extract on stomach ulceration is yet stated. Thirty rats arbitrarily alienated 5 groups: the normal group, the ulcerated control group, the omeprazole group, and 2 investigational groups. Normal and ulcerated control groups were gavage by mouth 10% Tween 20. Omeprazole group fed orally 20 mg/kg omeprazole. Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) have unique properties and display an important role in bioactivities such as antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, and anticancer. Stable Ag NPs were prepared by reaction of silver nitrate solution with extract of Melissa and characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, AFM, SEM, XRD, and Zeta potential. The resulted Ag NPs have a size range between 20 and 35 nm. The current study aims to evaluate the gastroprotective effect of Ag NPs against ethanol-induced gastric ulcers in rats. Thirty rats were randomly divided into five groups. The experimental groups were fed 175 and 350 ppm/p.o of Ag NPs orally. Ag NPs improved the adversative influence of ethanol-induced stomach damage as confirmed by declining ulcer index and raised the percentage of ulcer prevention. Significantly reduced ethanol-induced gastric lesions were evidenced by increased mucus secretion and pH of stomach content, decreased ulcer area, nonappearance of edema, and leucocyte penetration of the subcutaneous layer. In gastric homogenate, Ag NPs displayed a substantial upsurge in superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) activities, and significantly reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) levels., Ag NPs increased the intensity of periodic acid Schiff stained (PAS) and produced over-regulation of HSP-70 and down-regulation of Bax proteins. Ag NPs confirmed gastro-protection which might be attributed to its antioxidant effect, increased mucus secretion, increased SOD, and CAT, reduced MDA level, over-regulation of HSP-70 protein, and down-regulation of Bax protein.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) ranks top among the most prominent gastrointestinal problems prevalent around the world. Long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, pathogenic infection by Helicobacter pylori, imbalances between gastrointestinal regulatory factors and pathological hyperacidity are major contributors towards the development of peptic ulcers. Although synthetic drugs of multiple pharmacological classes are abundantly available, inadequacy of such agents in ensuring complete recovery in not uncommon. Therefore, pharmacological explorations of herbal products including plant extracts and their respective isolated phytoconstituents, for potential gastroprotective and antiulcer properties, are regular practice among the scientific community. Moreover, the historical preferences of a significant share of world population towards herbal-based medication over modern synthetic drugs also contribute significantly to such endeavors. AIM OF THE REVIEW This review has endeavored to present ethnomedicinal and pharmacological prospects of a significant number of authenticated plant species in terms of their capacity to exert gastroprotection and antiulcer activities both in vitro and in vivo. The information delineated along the way was further subjected to critical analysis to ascertain the possible future prospects of such findings into designing plant-derived products in future for the treatment of peptic ulcer. MATERIALS AND METHODS Electronic version of prominent bibliographic databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Wiley Online Library, SpringerLink, Web of Science, and MEDLINE were explored extensively for the identification and compilation of relevant information. The plant names and respective family names were verified through the Plant List (version 1.1) and World Flora Online 2021. All relevant chemical structures were verified through PubChem and SciFinder databases and illustrated with ChemDraw Ultra 12.0. RESULTS A colossal number of 97 plant species categorized under 58 diverse plant families have been discussed in the review for their gastroprotective and antiulcer properties. In vivo illustrations of the pharmacological properties were achieved for almost all the species under consideration. 29 individual phytoconstituents from these sources were also characterized with similar pharmacological potentials. Majority of the plant extracts as well as their constituents were found to exert their gastroprotective effects through antioxidative pathway featuring both enzymatic and nonenzymatic mechanism. Moreover, active inhibition of acid secretion, upregulation of gastroprotective mediators and downregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines, were also associated with a prominent number of plants or products thereof. CONCLUSIONS Comparative evaluations of the plant sources for their antiulcer activities, both as individual and as combination formulations, are necessary to be conducted in human subjects under properly regulated clinical conditions. Moreover, the efficacy and safety of such products should also be evaluated against those of the currently available treatment options. This will further facilitate in ascertaining their suitability and superiority, if any, in the treatment of peptic ulcer diseases. Implementation of these endeavors may eventually lead to development of more efficient treatment options in the future.

Abstract
The prevalence of gastric ulcers has increased in recent years, mainly because of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug utilization. Therefore, the current study investigates the gastroprotective effect of p-Cymene on absolute ethanol-induced acute gastric mucosal hemorrhagic lesions in rats. Thirty Sprague Dawley rats were randomly separated into five groups: normal control, ulcer control, reference, and two experimental groups. The normal and ulcer control groups were orally fed with 0.5% carboxymethylcellulose (CMC). The reference group was fed orally with 20 mg/kg omeprazole. The experimental groups were fed with 30 mg/kg and 60 mg/kg p-Cymene, respectively. After one hour, the normal group was fed with 0.5% CMC, and groups 2–5 were given absolute alcohol. After another hour all rats were sacrificed. The ulcer control group showed severe superficial hemorrhagic gastric mucosal lesions with decreased gastric mucus secretion and pH of gastric content. p-Cymene significantly reduced ethanol-induced gastric lesions, as evidenced by increased mucus and pH of gastric content, decreased ulcer area, reduced or absence of edema, and leucocyte infiltration of the subcutaneous layer. In gastric mucosal homogenate, p-Cymene displayed a significant increase in superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) activities, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and significantly reduced the malondialdehyde (MDA) level. In addition, p-Cymene increased the intensity of periodic acid–Schiff (PAS) stain of the gastric epithelium, and produced up-regulation of the HSP 70 protein and down-regulation of the Bax protein of the stomach epithelium, as well as a reduction in the levels of tumor necrotic factor-alpha and interleukin-6, while the level of interleukin-10 was increased. p-Cymene decreased the level of TNF-a and IL-6, and increased the level of IL-10. Acute toxicity with a higher dose of 500 mg/kg p-Cymene did not manifest any toxicological signs in rats and could enhance defensive mechanisms against gastric mucosal lesions. p-Cymene showed gastroprotective effects that could be attributed to its antioxidant nature, or its ability to increase mucus secretion, increase endogenous enzymes (SOD, CAT, PGE2), reduce MDA level, up-regulate HSP 70 protein, down-regulate Bax protein, and modulate inflammatory cytokines.

Abstract
Historically, skin disorders have received less attention in health management than other life-threatening diseases that occur on a global scale. However, numerous skin problems are reported to primary health care systems worldwide, particularly in tropical locations. While modern physicians often address most skin conditions, it is estimated that over 70% of individuals with skin illnesses do not seek treatment. Traditional medicine dates all the way back to human civilization's inception. Numerous materials are utilized in traditional medicinal remedies, but the use of plants is particularly critical. Saudi Arabia is one of the world's most botanically varied countries, having an extensive folk medicine heritage. While several reviews on the use of plants to cure skin disorders has been published worldwide, very few have been undertaken in Saudi Arabia, much alone a comprehensive one. Thus, the present review identified the most significant and medicinally relevant herbs used in the treatment of various dermatological conditions in Saudi Arabia. A total of 43 plants were identified and described in this study. This investigation omitted publications that lacked detailed data and had only fragmented information regarding the herb's traditional use in topical applications.

Abstract
Fat/carbohydrate-rich diet consumption or elevated secretion of pancreatic lipase (PL) in pancreatic injury results in increased fat digestion and storage. Several metabolites in plant-based diets can help achieve the requirements of nutrition and fitness together. Presently, nutritional metabolites from Amaranthus tricolor, A. viridis, and Achyranthes aspera were assessed and predicted for daily intake. The volatile-metabolite profiling of their extracts using GC-MS revealed various antioxidant and bioactive components. The implication of these specialized components and antioxidant-rich extracts (EC50 free radical scavenging: 34.1 ± 1.5 to 166.3 ± 14.2 µg/mL; FRAP values: 12.1 ± 1.0 to 34.0 ± 2.0 µg Trolox Equivalent/mg) in lipolysis regulation by means of interaction with PL was checked by in silico docking (Betahistine and vitamins: ΔGbind -2.3 to -4.4 kcal/mol) and in vitro fluorescence quenching. Out of the various compounds and extracts tested, Betahistine, ATRA and AVLA showed better quenching the PL fluorescence. The identification of potential extracts as source of functional components contributing to nutrition and fat regulation can be improved through such study.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the immunomodulatory effect and mechanism of the glycopeptides from Paecilomyces sinensis (CPS-II) on ethanol induced ulcers in mice. In this study, histopathological evaluation (H&E staining) and the gastric ulcer score, ulcer index, total acid secretion and gastric pH value were used to determine the anti-ulcer activity. The expression levels of interleukin (IL)-6, interleukin (IL)-10 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were detected by ELISA. The contents of superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) and epidermal growth factor (PEG2) in serum were measured according to the instructions for the reagents. Western blotting was used to detect the effect of CPS-II on the MEK/ERK pathway. The results showed that CPS-II could inhibit the ulcer score and ulcer index compared with the disease control group. CPS-II could significantly increase gastric pH and decrease gastric acid secretion in mice. The ELISA analysis showed that the expression levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in the CPS-II treatment group were significantly decreased, while the expression levels of IL-10 were significantly increased in the CPS-II treatment group. In the resveratrol treatment group, the content of MDA in serum was decreased, and the level of PEG2 and the activity of SOD in serum were significantly increased, which indicated that CPS-II has immunoregulation and anti-ulcer properties. The CPS-II treatment group could reduce the expression level of miR-9-5p in gastric tissue. pEGFR had been identified as a potential target of miR-9-5p. Western blot analysis showed that CPS-II could up-regulate the relative protein expression of pEGFR/EGFR, pRaf/Raf, pMEK/MEK, pERK/ERK, and ZO-1. The results showed that CPS-II could reduce oxidative stress and inflammatory response by regulating the miR-9-5p-MEK/ERK signaling pathway, thus protecting the gastric mucosa and improving stress gastric ulcers.
