Abstract
Ethanol possesses high economic value, but as an industrial waste, it poses harm to human health and the environment. The paper describes the preparation of a thermoplastic polyurethane-poly(n-isopropylacrylamide) (TPU-PNIPAM) copolymer designed to selectively uptake alcohol in aqueous solution. The material was created by bonding TPU and PNIPAM together through intermolecular hydrogen bonds, enhancing its hydrophobic properties and making it easier to interact with alcohol molecules. As the amount of PNIPAM in TPU increases, the number of hydrophobic isopropyl groups in TPU-PNIPAM also increases, leading to an enhanced selective uptake ability of TPU-PNIPAM for alcohols in aqueous solution. When the temperature reaches 55 °C, the hydrophobic groups in TPU-PNIPAM are more exposed, further enhancing the selective uptake ability of TPU-PNIPAM for alcohols in aqueous solution. TPU-PNIPAM demonstrates selective preferential uptake for various concentrations and types of alcohol in aqueous solutions. The material's selective uptake performance for alcohols increases with their hydrophobicity, so TPU-PNIPAM exhibited the best adsorption performance for a 10 wt% n-propanol solution under the combined effect of steric hindrance. In addition, TPU-PNIPAM exhibited selective adsorption for other organic solvents, which demonstrated the universality of TPU-PNIPAM in removing contaminants from aqueous solutions.

Abstract
The abundance of CO2 from the cement industry, power generation, petroleum production, and combustion of biomass makes it a readily available feedstock to produce chemicals and materials, although it has yet to achieve optimal development. Even though syngas (CO + H2) hydrogenation to methanol is an established industrial process, when the same catalytic system based on Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 is employed with CO2, the water formed as a byproduct reduces the activity, stability, and selectivity of the process. Here, we explored the potential of phenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) as a hydrophobic support of Cu/ZnO for direct CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. Mild calcination of the copper-zinc-impregnated POSS material affords the formation of CuZn-POSS nanoparticles with Cu and ZnO homogeneously dispersed with an average particle size of 7 and 15 nm supported on O-POSS and D-POSS, respectively. The composite supported on D-POSS was able to reach a 3.8% yield of methanol with a 4.4% of CO2 conversion and with selectivity as high as 87.5% within 18 h. The structural investigation of the catalytic system reveals that CuO/ZnO are electron withdrawers in the presence of the siloxane cage of POSS. The catalytic system metal-POSS is stable and recyclable under H2 reduction and CO2/H2 conditions. We tested the use of microbatch reactors in heterogeneous reactions as a rapid and effective tool for catalyst screening. The increased number of phenyls in the structure of POSS results in an increased hydrophobic character that plays a decisive role in the methanol formation after comparison with CuO/ZnO supported on reduced graphene oxide with 0% selectivity to methanol under the study conditions. The materials were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared analysis, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller specific surface area analysis, contact angle, and thermogravimetry. The gaseous products were characterized by gas chromatography coupled with thermal conductivity detectors and flame ionization detectors.

Abstract
The energy crisis in the world is increasing rapidly owing to the shortage of fossil fuel reserves. Climate change and an increase in global warming necessitates a change in focus from petroleum-based fuels to renewable fuels such as biofuels. The remodeling of existing separation processes using various nanomaterials is of a growing interest to industrial separation methods. Recently, the design of membrane technologies has been the most focused research area concerning fermentation broth to enhance performance efficiency, while recovering those byproducts to be used as value added fuels. Specifically, the use of novel nano material membranes, which brings about a selective permeation of the byproducts, such as organic solvent, from the fermentation broth, positively affects the fermentation kinetics by eliminating the issue of product inhibition. In this review, which and how membrane-based technologies using novel materials can improve the separation performance of organic solvents is considered. In particular, technical approaches suggested in previous studies are discussed with the goal of emphasizing benefits and problems faced in order to direct research towards an optimized membrane separation performance for renewable fuel production on a commercial scale.

Abstract
Graphene-based composite membranes, as laminated, stacked, and assembled architectures of graphene, have surpassed other conventional membranes with their advanced and preeminent structural specialization and potential use in a wide range of sustainable and environmental applications. The characteristic membrane features such as distinct laminar morphology, tailored physicochemical properties, as well as extraordinary molecular properties have fascinated scientists. Due to remarkable mechanical properties, these membranes can be easily fabricated. Recent progress has been achieved by graphene and its derivatives-based membranes to purify water and gases for environmental remediation. This review explained the latest and groundbreaking advances in chemical design, fabrication, and application of graphene-based membranes. Special attention is paid to the recent developments on graphene-based composites into membranes with various forms: free-standing, layered, and graphene-based nanocomposite membranes. Furthermore, a unique approach on environmental management with as-fabricated membranes is provided by discussing the effect of physicochemical properties. Consequently, their full-scale use for environmental management, water purification, gas purification, and biological treatments will pave the way for their promising features and realize their future prospects.
