Abstract
Deep eutectic solvents (DES) emerge as promising alternatives to conventional solvents, offering outstanding extraction capabilities, low toxicity, eco-friendliness, straightforward synthesis procedures, broad applicability, and impressive recyclability. DES are synthesized by combining two or more components through various synthesis procedures, such as heat-assisted mixing/stirring, grinding, freeze drying, and evaporation. Polysaccharides, as abundant natural materials, are highly valued for their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and sustainability. These versatile biopolymers can be derived from various natural sources such as plants, algae, animals, or microorganisms using diverse extraction techniques. This review explores the synthesis procedures of DES, their physicochemical properties, characterization analysis, and their application in polysaccharide extraction. The extraction optimization strategies, parameters affecting DES-based polysaccharide extraction, and separation mechanisms are comprehensively discussed. Additionally, this review provides insights into recently developed molecular guides for DES screening and the utilization of artificial neural networks for optimizing DES-based extraction processes. DES serve as excellent extraction media for polysaccharides from different sources, preserving their functional features. They are utilized both as extraction solvents and as supporting media to enhance the extraction abilities of other solvents. Continued research aims to improve DES-based extraction methods and achieve selective, energy-efficient processes to meet the demands of this expanding field.

Abstract
The hydration properties of the fluoride-based deep eutectic solvent ethalineF [a solution of choline fluoride in ethylene glycol (EG) at a 1:2 molar ratio] are studied and compared to the most common deep eutectic solvent ethaline (the solution of choline chloride in EG at 1:2 molar ratio). The densities of the deep eutectic solvent (DES) based on choline fluoride in EG (ethalineF) and its mixtures with water as cosolvent are measured over the temperature range of 298-323 K. The excess properties, including excess molar volumes, excess partial molar volumes, and viscosity deviations from ideal behavior, are calculated for ethalineF/water and ethaline/water mixtures and compared. The experimental excess molar volumes and viscosity deviations of the studied pseudobinary mixtures are fitted using the Redlich-Kister (R-K) equation. The results of the R-K model successfully reproduced the experimentally calculated values with minimal standard deviations. All excess molar volumes and viscosity deviations had negative values, indicating stronger solvation interactions between the mixture components than between each pure DES or water. The excess partial molar volumes show that water molecules are preferentially solvated by the DES environment. We show that the disruption of the DES interactions (primarily OH...halide interactions) by high mole fractions of water is related to the peak ionic conductivity. The stark differences in hydration behavior between fluoride- and chloride-based ethaline are analyzed and discussed.

Abstract
One of the most commonly used molecular inputs for ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents (DESs) in the literature are the critical properties and acentric factors, which can be easily determined using the modified Lydersen-Joback-Reid (LJR) method with Lee-Kesler mixing rules. However, the method used in the literature is generally applicable only to binary mixtures of DESs. Nevertheless, ternary DESs are considered to be more interesting and may provide further tailorability for developing task-specific DESs for particular applications. Therefore, in this work, a new framework for estimating the critical properties and the acentric factor of ternary DESs based on their molecular structures is presented by adjusting the framework reported in the literature with an extended version of the Lee-Kesler mixing rules. The presented framework was applied to a data set consisting of 87 ternary DESs with 334 distinct compositions. For validation, the estimated critical properties and acentric factors were used to predict the densities of the ternary DESs. The results showed excellent agreement between the experimental and calculated data, with an average absolute relative deviation (AARD) of 5.203% for ternary DESs and 5.712% for 260 binary DESs (573 compositions). The developed methodology was incorporated into a user-friendly Excel worksheet for computing the critical properties and acentric factors of any ternary or binary DES, which is provided in the Supporting Information. This work promotes the creation of robust, accessible, and user-friendly models capable of predicting the properties of new ternary DESs based on critical properties, thus saving time and resources.

Abstract
The first report of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) was released in 2003 and was identified as a new member of ionic liquid (IL), involving innovative chemical and physical characteristics. Using green solvent technology concerning economical, practical, and environmental aspects, DESs open the window for sustainable development of nanomaterial fabrication. The DESs assist in different fabrication processes and design nanostructures with specific morphology and properties by tunable reaction conditions. Using DESs in synthesis reactions can reduce the required high temperature and pressure conditions for decreasing energy consumption and the risk of environmental contamination. This review paper provides the recent applications and advances in the design strategy of DESs for the green synthesis of nanomaterials. The strategy and application of DESs in wet-chemical processes, nanosize reticular material fabrication, electrodeposition/electrochemical synthesis of nanostructures, electroless deposition, DESs based nano-catalytic and nanofluidic systems are discussed and highlighted in this review.

Abstract
Deep eutectic solvents (DES) are recently synthesized to cover limitations of conventional solvents. These green solvents have wide ranges of potential usages in real-life applications. Precise measuring or accurate estimating thermophysical properties of DESs is a prerequisite for their successful applications. Density is likely the most crucial affecting characteristic on the solvation ability of DESs. This study utilizes seven machine learning techniques to estimate the density of 149 deep eutectic solvents. The density is anticipated as a function of temperature, critical pressure and temperature, and acentric factor. The LSSVR (least-squares support vector regression) presents the highest accuracy among 1530 constructed intelligent estimators. The LSSVR predicts 1239 densities with the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 0.26% and R2 = 0.99798. Comparing the LSSVR and four empirical correlations revealed that the earlier possesses the highest accuracy level. The prediction accuracy of the LSSVR (i.e., MAPE = 0. 26%) is 74.5% better than the best-obtained results by the empirical correlations (i.e., MAPE = 1.02%).

Abstract
Recently, deep eutectic solvent (DES) or ionic liquid (IL) analogues have been considered as the newest green solvent, demonstrating the potential to replace harsh volatile organic solvents. DESs are mainly a combination of two compounds: hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA) and hydrogen bond donor (HBD), which have the ability to interact through extensive hydrogen bonds. A thorough understanding of their physicochemical properties is essential, given their successful applications on an industrial scale. The appropriate blend of HBA to HBD can easily fine-tune DES properties for desired applications. In this context, we have reviewed the basic information related to DESs, the two most studied physicochemical properties (density and viscosity), and their performance as a solvent in (i) drug delivery and (ii) extraction of biomolecules. A broader approach of various factors affecting their performance has been considered, giving a detailed picture of the current status of DESs in research and development.

Abstract
This paper demonstrates the assessment of physicochemical and thermodynamic properties of aqueous solutions of novel deep eutectic solvent (DES) built of tetrabutylammonium chloride and 3-amino-1-propanol or tetrabutylammonium bromide and 3-amino-1-propanol or 2-(methylamino)ethanol or 2-(butylamino)ethanol. Densities, speeds of sound, refractive indices, and viscosities for both pure and aqueous mixtures of DES were investigated over the entire range of compositions at atmospheric pressure and T = (293.15 ‒ 313.15) K. It was concluded that the experimental data were successfully fitted using the Jouyban–Acree model with respect to the concentration. Obtained results showed that this mathematical equation is an accurate correlation for the prediction of aqueous DES properties. Key physicochemical properties of the mixtures—such as excess molar volumes, excess isentropic compressibilities, deviations in viscosity, and deviations in refractive indices—were calculated and correlated by the Redlich–Kister equation with temperature-dependent parameters. The non-ideal behavior of the studied systems were also evaluated by using the Prigogine−Flory−Patterson theory and the results were interpreted in terms of interactions between the mixture components.

Abstract
Deep eutectic solvent (DES) is regarded as a new generation of green solvent due to its distinctive and tailorable physicochemical properties, such as low volatility, strong solubility, biodegradability, low-cost, environment-friendly, and feasibility of the structural design. As an alternative to traditional organic solvents and ionic liquids (ILs), DESs have been widely applied in many fields, such as organic chemical synthesis, electrochemical deposition, material preparation, biomass catalytic conversion, extraction and separation, detection and analysis, nanotechnology, gas absorption, and drug delivery. In this paper, through in-depth discussion on factors influencing the physicochemical properties of DESs, we summarized the relations between their composition, structure, and performance. Focusing on their solvent performance, we analyzed the latest research results of DESs with different physicochemical properties in various fields. It should be pointed out that designing and synthesizing DESs from the molecular structure aspect to regulate their physicochemical properties is the direction of accurately developing new functional applications of DESs.

Abstract
Deep Eutectic Systems (DESs) are obtained by combining Hydrogen Bond Acceptors (HBAs) and Hydrogen Bond Donors (HBDs) in specific molar ratios. Since their first appearance in the literature in 2003, they have shown a wide range of applications, ranging from the selective extraction of biomass or metals to medicine, as well as from pollution control systems to catalytic active solvents and co-solvents. The very peculiar physical properties of DESs, such as the elevated density and viscosity, reduced conductivity, improved solvent ability and a peculiar optical behavior, can be exploited for engineering modular systems which cannot be obtained with other non-eutectic mixtures. In the present review, selected DESs research fields, as their use in materials synthesis, as solvents for volatile organic compounds, as ingredients in pharmaceutical formulations and as active solvents and cosolvents in organic synthesis, are reported and discussed in terms of application and future perspectives.

Abstract
High volatility would lead to a highly flammable hazard, explosion danger, low regeneration efficiency and air pollution. Eutectic solvents (ESs) are assumed to be nonvolatile; however, the assumption is not correct. Here, we, for the first time, find that superbase-derived ESs are highly volatile. Even at room temperature (i.e., 25 °C) and atmospheric pressure, the mass loss of ESs could reach as high as 43.5% after 20 h of exposure. Superbase-derived ESs are promising solvents for CO2 capture, and they are also highly volatile after CO2 capture. We found that typical ethylene glycol : 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (EG : DBU (4 : 1)) has a three-stage volatilizing mechanism. EG and DBU volatilize first by breaking weak hydrogen-bonding interactions (1st stage), followed by the destruction of strong hydrogen-bonding interactions (2nd stage), and finally by destroying much stronger hydrogen-bonding interactions (3rd stage). This work presents a new horizon that ESs and their mixture with CO2 are highly volatile, which is helpful for mitigating laboratory explosion, combustion hazards, air pollution and designing new types of ESs with negligible volatility.

Abstract
Valorization of lignocellulosic biomass and food residues to obtain valuable chemicals is essential to the establishment of a sustainable and biobased economy in the modern world. The latest and greenest generation of ionic liquids (ILs) are deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs); these have shown great promise for various applications and have attracted considerable attention from researchers who seek versatile solvents with pretreatment, extraction, and catalysis capabilities in biomass- and biowaste-to-bioenergy conversion processes. The present work aimed to review the use of DESs and NADESs in the valorization of biomass and biowaste as pretreatment or extraction solvents or catalysis agents.

Abstract
Ionic liquids (ILs) and deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have been suggested as eco-friendly alternatives to organic solvents. A trace amount of water is often unavoidable as impurity, and water is also added on purpose to reduce their problematically high viscosity and lower their high price. Understanding the distinct effects of water on the properties of ILs/DESs is highly important. In this review, we collect published experimental and theoretical results for IL/DES-H2O systems at varied water concentrations and analyze them. Results from mechanistic studies, thermodynamic modelling and advanced experiments are collected and critically discussed. Six commonly studied IL/DES-H2O systems were selected to map experimental observations onto microscopic results obtained in mechanistic studies. A great variety of distinct contours of the excess properties can be observed over the entire compositional range, indicating that the properties of IL/DES-H2O systems are highly unpredictable. Mechanistic studies clearly demonstrate that the added H2O rapidly changes the heterogeneous 3D structures of pure ILs/DESs, leading to very different properties and behaviour. There are similarities between aqueous electrolytes and IL/DES solutions but the bulky and asymmetric organic cations in ILs/DESs do not conform to the standard salt dissolution and hydration concepts. Thermodynamic modelling previously assumes ILs/DESs to be either a neutral ion-pair or completely dissociated ions, neglecting specific ion hydration effects. A new conceptual framework is suggested for thermodynamic modelling of IL/DES-H2O binary systems to enable new technologies for their practical applications.
